Many students think it is all about just going to college and get a degree will equal a good paying job. Well it is much more than that. College student need to network with people because you never know who you are standing next to. It takes more than a grade point average to get a job. You need to know people in your feild to get you there, you need to have a 3.0 or higher to have your resume looked at, you need to have involvement with your school such as sports or clubs and volunteering. These are most college graduates biggest mistakes when they get ready to look for a job and can't seem to be placed.

I just went through my freshman year myself, I didnt have the best roommate experience, many people let that ruin their freshman year and they end up transferring, if you realize that is happening get involved in an organization, especially if the group you are looking at joining is related to your major. (It is easier to relate to someone if you have something in common to talk about)

Definitely don't go into college with a new relationship. If it's a strong, lengthy one: sure. But, you don't need that distraction as well as stress that could affect your academic performance. The time, emotion, etc. is very consuming, so don't let your relationship be a petty one. Plus, you could miss out on someone better suited to you, since you're, hopefully haha, more mature.
Prioritizing is essential.

One of the biggest freshmen Mistakes to avoid is over loading yourself! Go to a counselor and and make a 2-4-8 year plan what ever it may be DON'T try to take too many classes at once or you will not have time to do all the studying/homework and might flunk out. Always take two hard classes and a fun one that you look forward to going to, and your life will be much easier!

Ditch the long distance high school girlfriend/boyfriend when you go away to college. You will have the opportunity to meet so many more people in college than ever imagined, especially in your freshman year. I'm not saying relationships are bad and if your engaged or truly loving someone, then great for you, but odds are they won't work out and was a summer fling to begin with, but further you do not want to hinder yourself from great friends ahead and a potential match in years ahead. If your unhappy or in a "loose relationship", leave it and venture into the college campus with an open and excited mind.

Another mistake is gaining the Freshman 15. Seriously--learn to eat healthy before you go to college. If you are cooking your own food, research healthy, cheap meals you can make now. If you are eating at the cafe, choose healthy options-whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, etc. Also, go to the gym or be active as much as you can! Walk to class, don't take the shuttle bus. Trust me, the Freshman 15 was hard to work off and took me a few months to work off. Avoid it!!!
