Be sure to check with your school for what you're allowed, or not allowed, to bring. My University, for example, is going green so they have certain requirements for power outlets, appliances, and even the types of lightbulbs. Most college dorms also come with some furnishings already (Desk, chair, microfridge, bed, etc). This is a very important to list to know.
A good place to find these lists is in the FAQ section on your college's website, if they're not there, email a representative from your college to inquire. After all, you wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on a MicroFridge unit to find that you college already included one with your dorm room.
Another suggestion, even though it says that they have a line for cable access, consider how much tv you'll be watching. Between classes, studying, sports, jobs, and maybe even some social time, do you really need to bother bringing a television to college? Just a thought.
Sincerely, A fellow College Freshmen, 2011
