Today’s question comes from the Los Angeles Times:
Graduation season is now is session. But with one graduating class 2012, comes two different reports on job prospects. On the heels of a big graduation weekend for many college graduates, the Associated Press released a report Sunday announcing the triumphant return of employment for outgoing seniors.
However, only a couple weeks before had that same AP published an article about about the bleakness of the graduating class’s job prospects.
So what’s the deal? What has your experience been like trying to get a job? Or, what do you think is actually happening out there?

Today’s question:
College campuses are known for being fun, lively, and full of young and exciting people. But college campuses aren’t always perfect. If you read the news, it’s not uncommon for violent crimes to occur on or close to a college campus.
What do students need to know about campus safety before they head off to college?

Today’s question::
While students and admissions folks go crazy for new applicants, a startling 1 in 3 students who enroll in either a four-year or two-year college will probably transfer at some point*!
Why do you think that so many college students transfer? What’s behind all the movement?
*A statistic in a report issued by the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

Today’s question comes in honor of spring break:
According to STA Travel’s website, 49% of student travelers this year plan to spend more than $699 on spring break trips.
Is spending bank on big spring break travels the way to go or do you think there are more frugal ways to have a great spring break?

Today’s question comes from the National Association of Colleges Admissions Counseling:
During the Fall 2008 admission cycle, the average number of college admission offers revoked by colleges was 10. The most common reason that colleges rescinded admission offers was final grades.
While “Senioritis” is often thought of a common and even humorous condition, do these numbers change your opinion on that matte? What do high school seniors need to realize about their second semester?

Today’s question comes from Inside Higher Ed:
A study from Sallie Mae said that 22% of college students with a family income of over $100,000 opted for a community college last year. Four years ago, the number was at 16%.
What do you think is behind this fact that more affluent students are going to community college? Should community colleges update their facilities to accommodate these students?

Today’s question is inspired from an article from abc.com:
Twin brothers, Cary and Michael Huang are the 14-year olds who created the interactive”Scale of the Universe 2″ that takes you from the very smallest features postulated by scientists (the strings in string theory) to the very largest (the observable universe). Here’s what Cary had to say about it:
“My seventh grade science teacher showed us a size comparison video on cells, and I thought it was fascinating. I decided to make my own interactive version that included a much larger range of sizes,” said Cary in an email forwarded by his mother. “It was not a school project — just for fun. However, my science teacher loved it so much she showed [it] to the class! My brother, Michael, helped me put it on the internet.”
Take a look at the project. What do you find surprising or amazing about scale?
What do you find surprising or amazing about a high school student taking on such a big project for fun?
Does anything inspire you to educate and challenge yourself while not in class?

Today’s question is inspired by Lynn O’Shaughnessy’s blog, The College Solution:
Less than 50% of students who begin a PhD program leave with a degree.
How does a student know if they’re ready to make the commitment to graduate school? Should they enroll in grad school as a default move after graduation?

Today’s question:
Congress’s 2012 appropriations legislation had some notable eligibility changes to financial aid policy including:
1. Effective immediately and retroactively, students are only eligible for six full-time years of the Pell Grant vs. what used to be 9 years.
2. Students who have only passed an Ability to Benefit test (those who don’t have a GED or high school diploma, or who weren’t homeschooled) will no longer be eligible for federal aid.
3. The family income and expected family contribution scales have shifted slightly, knocking some students out of eligibility. So students who received small grants might become ineligible.
Are you aware of these changes to student federal aid?
