Great for these types of students

It is great for students looking for smaller classes and more personal relationships with professors and staff. It is a place for students looking for tons of volunteer work, mission work, and service work. It is a safe and fun environment if you are looking for a small but great school.

    Tips for prospective students

Get connected and become involved. The school will provide you many opportunities to become involved and the best thing to do is to take advantage of those opportunities. Get to know your professors and build positive relationships with them, they are great and genuinely care about you.

    Bang for the buck

Albeit the tuition is pretty high, but you will be getting a great education, a place to become your own person and to grow in your faith. You will be provided with so many opportunities to better yourself and your future resumes or applications. The small classrooms will provide you the chance to get to know your professors, so when it comes time for those letters of recommendation, the professors will know you and your work ethic and the letter will shine in its genuineness.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere here is great. The school provides a ton of opportunities for you to get involved and meet new people. You will have many opportunities for service and volunteer work, missions trips, and times to have just plain fun. I enjoy being here because here you are treated as a person rather than just another number. I have had the chance to talk to and connect with all my professors and meet a ton of great friends.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned and grown so much here. The teachers are amazing and care so much for you as a student and as a person. You will learn a ton in your classes, and will be more than prepared when you enter the work field or continue on with your education.

Great for these types of students

ACU is a great university for anyone who wants to receive a high education, and wants a small classroom size. ACU also provides a great atmosphere for anyone who wants to grow in their faith.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip I can provide, is to go into your freshman year with an open mind, and the desire to grow as an individual as well as in your faith. I learned so much about myself my freshman year, and after all of growth I did my freshman year, I still desire to grow even more through my next years in college. Another tip I have is to venture out and try new things that you have never done before because maybe you were too shy or too afraid. I was shy most of my years in high school, but I grew to be much more outgoing in college, and because of it, I made some of the best friends I'll ever have. Make sure to pick your friends wisely though, because you want friends who will support you in having fun but also support you in making time to study for your classes. --Make a healthy balance of fun and studying. The reason you're in school is for an education, so don't forget to study! However, college is also the time to enjoy the college experience, so have some fun with your friends. Don't burn yourself out from studying too much!

    Bang for the buck

While ACU is very expensive, and I have struggled financially like many college students, the quality of education that ACU provides can't be beat. All of the faculty are genuinely interested in the well-being of their students as well as the high-education provided to their students. What makes ACU's education most profound to me, is that the classes are taught from a Christian foundation.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoyed being in the college so much, that as I'm home in Dallas for the summer, I'm anxious to get back to ACU! The atmosphere at ACU is so friendly and inviting; Abilene, very quickly became home to me. Both the students, the faculty, and the staff seem to share the same ideal of making a difference in the world, and when I was on campus I easily desired the same goal. I have very much enjoyed my first-year experience at ACU because I made many great friends and great connections, that I'm sure will last my life-time.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here truly care about their students' education. In most of my classes I attended my first year, there were a lot of discussions in the classes; in addition to learning the information in the textbooks, the professors allowed us (the students) to discuss our many different perspectives. All of the information I learned in class, was useful to not just pass the course, but to apply to my everyday life. I especially appreciated learning new ideas in a Christian setting.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who wants a quality education with a spiritual christian backdrop should consider ACU. ACU is a place where you have the christian environment to grow in your faith if you want to, without having it stuffed down your throat. If you like diversity and but don't want the massively overwhelming size of some universities, ACU may be the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you look at scholarships for ACU early on. There is scholarship money available, but the cut off dates seem to be a little early to me. Also, due to the fact that ACU is affiliated with the Church of Christ, be prepared to attend a required amount of chapel. I personally enjoy chapel very much, not only for the spiritual benefits, but because it offers a 30 minute mental and emotional break from the craziness of the day.

    Bang for the buck

ACU comes with a fair sized price tag, but not unreasonable. Scholarships are available though. There are many scholarships to be had, just from ACU. If you are an athlete, ACU offers many athletic scholarships, so look into them. If you are not (like me), you should look into the departmental scholarships or the merit scholarships. The best one I heard about was the presidential scholarship, which offers full and half tuition, depending on ACT scores and an interview.

    Am enjoying being here

A LOT! There are lots of campus activities and events to be involved in. Although the first semester at ACU was difficult to adjust to, it will be that way anywhere you go. The environment is very open and friendly to all types of people.

    Am learning a lot

not only about academic subjects, but also about people who are very diverse.

Great for these types of students

ACU is great for students who have been living the Christian faith for a long time and want a place to continue to grow and learn, it is wonderful for students who are new to the faith and want to grow while at school and it is good for students who are unsure of their faith position and just want an excellent education. ACU welcomes everyone and works hard to accommodate them, but the Christian faith is major part of the school and will be evident in every Chapel you attend, every Bible Class, every class and activity.

    Tips for prospective students

Abilene Christian University is a Christian University with a connection to the Church of Christ. Christianity is a huge part of the school and it is the driving force behind every aspect of it. ACU is a wonderful school that truly cares about the student. Every part of the Faculty, Administration and staff from the Janitors to the Schools President, works hard to make the students feel welcome and a part of the school. The education is excellent and the professors are always willing to help you in any way they can. The sports program is wonderful and the school has been nationally ranked many times. Extracurricular activities are endless and the programs you can join through the school could change your life. Become a part of the school there is something for everyone at ACU, you just have to ask.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition at ACU is costly, with average total cost for a student being around thirty thousand dollars a year. However, you get way more than you pay for as a student. When you go into class it isn't just a lecture hall, it is an interactive classroom that allows you to utilize every source available to you. The professors want to be there and want to help you learn and understand what they are teaching. The extracurriculars give you an outlet to just relax and enjoy being around other students. The facilities are excellent and help to increase your learning experience. Then there is the overall experience you get from being at ACU that is priceless.

    Am enjoying being here

ACU is amazing! When I came to a Wildcat Preview Day I was blown away. You walk on campus and you instantly feel you are a part of a community. In fact I was so impressed I made my decision that very day! My being a student at the school has only increased my love and enjoyment of the school. The student population of about five thousand students is big enough that you are always meeting new people but small enough that you can actually form relationships with people outside your major. The facilities and grounds are excellent and the amount of extracurricular activities available is amazing. ACU is a great place for me and I am blessed to be there.

    Am learning a lot

At ACU the classes are always interesting and intriguing. The professors are excellent and are always up to date on current issues and events within their field of expertise as well as others and will combine this into the curriculum. The classes are interactive and this has been increased some by the Global Learning Initiative that was implemented in 2008-2009 school year that gave incoming Freshmen the choice between a paid for iTouch or iPhone (service not included with phone). This increased students ability to communicate with professors and peers which in turn increased student to professor feed back. Thus, increasing the overall learning experience. I have learned a lot while at ACU and look forward to learning much more.

    ACU is great for socialites!

    Tips for prospective students

I would expect to be challenged by ACU.

    Bang for the buck

ACU is pricey. Be prepared to take out a life-long loan!

    Am enjoying being here

In order to enjoy your time at ACU, I would recommend being open to the numerous events on campus. These campus events are the best places to meet others and find groups of friends.

    Am learning a lot

Abilene Christian is a great place to expand your knowledge base. The professors at ACU will push students to grow and question their core, foundational beliefs. ACU is a great place for self exploration and discovery.

Great for these types of students

ACU is a great university for students from all walks of life. There is not a single person here that I have found who will judge another. Everyone is extremely friendly and just a joy to be around. So, ACU is great for just about everyone!

    Bang for the buck

Despite the fact that ACU is a bit pricey, the amount of opportunities that it offers to get involved in the community around the University far outways the price.

    Am enjoying being here

The people, faculty and students alike, are very friendly and welcoming. They really enjoy each other and all of the faculties main goals each semester is to get to know each student, no matter how large the class, at least on a first name basis. Everyone is really fun to be around and energetic as well.

    Am learning a lot

ACU is a terrific, faith-based university with many opportunities to get straight A's and keep them too! My friends and I enjoy passing around new and interesting facts that we have learned in our classes. At ACU, I really learn something new every day.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want to participate in the college community and who want to learn. Good for hard-working students who will jump in with volunteer activities and also love to hang with friends. Especially good for students who want to connect with their professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early! Get to know your admissions counselor - they are a great help! Don't be afraid to ask questions. The higher you can get your SAT/ACT scores the more scholarships you can apply for. Visit campus it's awesome! Also, tour all the dorms and talk to people on campus so you can decide which one is the right fit for you. Come ready to explore new things, study hard, have fun, and open yourself up to some great volunteer work opportunities. IMPORTANT NOTE! When you first register for classes take classes that will transfer! A lot of the class scheduling is done for you your first semester but look the classes up and make them change them! This way if you have to transfer you won't have to lose a bunch of hours because they won't transfer!!!

    Bang for the buck

ACU is pretty pricey. It does offer a lot of quality faculty members and good opportunities for the students, but I wouldn't say the bang for the buck is amazing unless you've got financial aid! It's a very good school, but it is so expensive and you don't always get what is initially represented by the school.

    Will enjoy being here

I love the campus and the atmosphere. I really appreciate that there are designated quiet areas for prayer or studying. There's lots of extracurricular clubs and activities, and the policy is if they don't already have it, start it! I really am excited about all the new opportunities!

    Academic Rigor

I loved my classes! Ask around about professors and the upperclassmen will give you a good idea of what to expect. I loved the small class size and how the professors are truly teaching for the students to learn the most possible. Though there are a few professors I wouldn't recommend, as a whole I learned a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

Something that has made me look forward to going there is talking with my admissions counselor, financial aid office, setting up meetings with coaches, and viewing the dorms. Take every opportunity you can to learn more about the school.

    Bang for the buck

It is very expensive since it is a private school, but you get a free iphone or ipod touch when you join. There are athletic scholarships but I am not sure how much they are. The school does give nice scholarships for your SAT scores though.

    Will enjoy being here

All three times that I have visited the campus I have enjoyed being there. The food is great! I have already made a few friends and the campus is gorgeous.

    Will learn a lot

I have met and talked with several students there, and they all love their teachers. They were impressed with there classes and said they learned a lot.

Great for these types of students

ACU is great for all types of students actually. We have a diverse campus, which makes ACU that much better! I am friends with people I would have never expected to be friends with and would have never had the opportunity to be friends with before. The only advise I have to offer is to come here if you want an exceptional school, because ACU is like no other university out there!

    Tips for prospective students

Come and take a tour! See for yourselves just what kind of university ACU is! ACU is real and does not show you fake things just to convince you to come here, they actually show you what you are interested in and will answer all of your questions/concerns (if you have any!).

    Bang for the buck

Although Abilene Christian costs more than public schools, because it is private I am actually paying about the same amount I would have been paying at my second choice public school because of the amount of scholarships they offer. I have rarely encountered someone who is not on some type of scholarship offered by the university, they are really good about offering scholarships. Plus, even though it is more expensive, it is definitely worth it. The academics plus the general experience of just being here make it worth the while.

    Am enjoying being here

Abilene Christian University is the perfect fit for me, I could definitely not see myself anywhere else and am proud of my decision to go here. I feel like it is the perfect size for me. I enjoy being able to recognize and be friends with the people in my classes, in my dorm, and just people around campus. I also like that my school is not only Christian in name, but in everything they do. The professors, the students, the classes, everything is modeled after Christ. This is something I was looking for in a university, and I found it!

    Am learning a lot

I find that not only do I learn a ton from my professors, but I am able to apply what I learn in daily live. I frequently find myself mentioning something I learned in class in daily conversation and then in my head I secretly thank my professors for being so personable and enthusiastic about their subjects because it in turn makes me enthusiastic and more willing to engage my mind.

Students who want a smaller class size with great relationships with peers and professors. Students who want to be a part of a community where everyone fits in and feels a part of the school. Students who want a Christian atmosphere without sacrificing a strong academic environment will thrive here.

    Tips for prospective students

Start looking into scholarships now! It is never too soon to be looking into how you are going to be paying for college. College is a very important choice and if you want the best of the best you are going to have to work hard to pay for it.

    Bang for the buck

ACU is very expensive. I am only here because I have a scholarship and my parents are helping me every step of the way. Having ACU on my diploma will make a difference in my career choices because of the community and connections that the campus has.

    Am enjoying being here

I have formed wonderful relationships and gotten involved in a lot of different aspects of this amazing campus.

Now that I am in my Nursing courses I am learning many new and applicable things.

    - Those who enjoy thinking outside the box and viewing issues from different perspectives. - Texans or those who like Texan accents and hospitality - Outgoing or introspective, either one will thrive here - Those who wish to learn more about the world from a Christian perspective - Activists

    Tips for prospective students

    - Don't be afraid to eat by yourself. Nobody will point and laugh at you because chances are that they have been exactly where you are. - Take every opportunity possible to score free food. - Study hard to come here and study hard once you are here. Being accepted does not mean that you are immune from failing out. - If possible, visit campus. It has a huge impact on your decision to come here. - Don't waste your money on stupid things! ACU sells a lot of cute, useless stuff, but resist the temptation to buy it! You need to save that money for tuition.

    Bang for the buck

There is no doubt that this school is expensive. Every student and staff members knows this. However, ACU ranks among the best universities in the country. The teachers are some of the best in their respective fields, the facilities are top-notch, the campus is gorgeous, and the technology is fresh and innovative. You absolutely will receive a phenomenal education along with life-changing experiences here.

    Am enjoying being here

Never will you be bored here, unless it is by choice. Students and faculty are constantly organizing both fun and educational opportunities for you to enjoy. However, if you prefer solitude, there are plenty of places to chill and do homework or contemplate life.

    Am learning a lot

Every class here will challenge you to think broader and more critically than you have thought before. Teachers display thorough knowledge of their areas of study and are more than willing to share it with you and answer your questions.

    Campus Safety

acu has a 24/7 police department that are always patrolling the perimeters of the campus, ensuring the safety of the students! it's a great feeling when you're one of those people that like to run outside around the whole school (like myself).

    Greek Life

ohh yeah. pledging is the greatest to watch.

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many clubs and activities and bible groups and life groups for every student of any sort to get involved in! there's always posters and flyers announcing these types of things.

Great for these types of students

for students wanting a smaller school with a great community and where professors will love each and every student, this is such a great place to be.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

every friday, the bean (cafeteria) is a fun place with loud music, contests, and even some dancing!

    Bang for the buck

there are required bible classes and core classes that everyone must take..which ends up adding up to a good number of credit hours - which gets pricey.

    What to do for fun

the student recreation center at acu is incredible. racquetball, volleyball, basketball courts, two incredible pools (one with lanes, the other just for fun), and way more. there's also a bowling alley and game center under the campus center.

    Food and Dining

out of many colleges i've visited, i'm going to have to say that acu has the best food! they have so many choices, and they're all great!

    Dorm Life

dorm life is great, there are so many opportunities to get to become close to people in your hall. the only down-side that i can think of is there is a curfew of midnight for freshmen, but that's fairly reasonable in my opinion.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are challenging and thought-provoking, as they should be! core especially is a great way to learn how to think critically.

    Tips for prospective students

learn to enjoy chapel! many people think it's a negative thing, but it's a great chance to take a quick break from your day, praise the lord, and get together with your friends before lunch!

    In three sentences

the community here is an incredible blessing. the close-knit relationships formed are life changing. the professors truly care about each student.

It is a great school for those who want an education and more, it provides opportunities for students to live and grow as a community.

    Tips for prospective students

A tip to all students heading for college, while it is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable experience remember to keep up with class work, it can be easy to put off. And to those looking at ACU, don't miss out on the opportunities offered, academically and socially.

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive and I do feel the pressure of trying to find every scholarship I can get my hands on, but it's hard to put a price on everything that comes from going to ACU. The classes are wonderful and the size is ideal (30-70 students), which makes learning a bit more comfortable and ultimately rewarding.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at ACU. The professors are extremely invested in your career and education. The ACU community is amazing, everyone is so willing to make you feel welcome and at home even though everyone comes from different places and backgrounds.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a great deal in each of my classes especially my majors courses. I am not only learning on an educational level but on a level that prepares you for the real world which involves interacting with others and cooperating to reach a goal.

    Campus Safety

Because the ACU Police Department so cares about our safety and is on the scene at the slightest hint of trouble, nothing hardly dangerous happens on campus. Located across the street, the Campus Police Department honestly cares about each one of us; evidence of this is proven by frequent email updates about weather and what driving routes to take when we go home.

Great for these types of students

If you are looking for a sense of belonging, come to ACU. If you are looking to find a specific purpose in life, come to ACU. If you need a friend, come to ACU.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private school, ACU is of course on the expensive side. However, the financial aid department and other departments truly want you to come to ACU and do not want money to be an issue. These people search relentlessly for scholarships and loans, such that I do not know a single person who has come here without some kind of financial aid. When it is all said and done, it is well worth the time and effort of all that scholarship searching.

    What to do for fun

There are so many options of getting involved at ACU. SingSong, a lively tradition since 1956, is a time where clubs and classes show off their musical talent for parents, the student body, and visitors every spring time. Another way to get involved is Freshmen Follies, a type of Talent Show specifically for freshmen who want to get to know other freshmen and have a blast on stage. Before the start of their first year, everyone participates in what we call Welcome Week; this is a time where small groups participate in events with each other like the Welcome Week Olympics and perhaps the largest game of Twister in the world! Of course there are so many other ways to have fun and get to know your peers; examples include club activities, dances, intramural sports, etc.

    Food and Dining

As far as the food offered, I would rate it average. The World Famous Bean offers many choices of cuisine, ranging from International foods to Vegetarian options. The only time I would rate the Dining Services with an A is during Visitation Days, as it is understandable that they would go all out when potential students are visiting.

    Dorm Life

There is always something to do in the dorms; a week never goes by that does not have some kind of dorm activity going on! The Resident Assistants never fail to include all of the students in an activity. We have eaten barbecue, played dodge ball, had a poetry contest, and so much more!

    Academic Rigor

Of course, like anything in life, what you put into preparation will parallel what you get out of it; this is without a doubt the same with academics. If you hunger for knowledge and bettering yourself, and therefore apply yourself according to your desire, you will come out with so much. The difficulty of the classes, then, depends on you; let me say however, that it is worth the trouble.

    Tips for prospective students

Give it one semester. Within a semester you will no doubt feel like you belong to one huge family. Complete strangers never fail to come up to me and say hi, and on more than one occasion, these strangers became my best of friends. I have begun to find my true self at Abilene Christian University.

    In three sentences

At Abilene Christian University, I feel like I belong. There is never a moment when I feel alone; both the faculty and student body seem to genuinely care for one another. Due to frequent social activities and the genuine care the professors have for their students, I have already made so many life-long friendships.

    Campus Safety

Abilene is a very safe town in general and there are 2 other colleges in town. ACU has its own police/security, but they are needed very rarely.

    Greek Life

ACU has social clubs as a christian alternative to sororities and fraternities. You can join one of these your sophmore year or later.

    Clubs and Activities

You can participate in any sport, either on the school team or in the inter-mural league. You can get involved with the Student Association and there are always service projects going on to get involved in. There are too many clubs to mention.

Great for these types of students

This is a christian university in deed - not only in name. If your faith is a big part of who you are, then this is a great place for you. Also - if you are wanting to be a doctor, this is a fabulous place because their med school acceptance rate is very high.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

ACU does a production in the spring called Sing Song. All the social clubs and classes compete while performing 3 minute acts consisting of acapella singing and choreography within a certain theme. It is really hard to describe, but it is very fun and students and alumni both look forward to it every year.

    Bang for the buck

It is a wonderful place to prepare for the future as well as make relationships that will last a lifetime. It is a private school, so it is more expensive than state schools, but less expensive than other large private schools.

    What to do for fun

The college is in Abilene Texas, which is a small West Texas town. The students get very creative with what to do in their spare time because they have to. If you want to find partying, it is out there, but most students don't participate in that kind of thing.

    Food and Dining

If you live on campus, you must buy a meal ticket. The Cafeteria is called The Bean and there are many options to choose from. There is always something good for everyone.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is exceptional. You must live on campus your first 2 years and the dorms are uni-sex.

    Academic Rigor

The pre-med program is expecially tough, but the acceptance rate into med school is the highest in Texas. There are other programs that are less challenging. Some of the programs don't go in-depth enough.

    Tips for prospective students

It is an intimate college experience with under 5000 students. Attendence in Chapel is required, so if you have no religious interest, this may not be a good choice for you.

    In three sentences

It is a place where you can grow spiritually as well as get prepared for your career. Compassion is emphasized as well as service to your community. The professors take a personal interest in you and your college career!

    Campus Safety

There are patrol units which patrol the campus and the response is fairly quick and easy to contact.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a number of social clubs on campus and many of these are awesome groups to join! It is definitely an experience worth trying.

    What to do for fun

The town of Abilene is small, however that is not to say that there is nothing to do. There are various campus activities and events which take place throughout the school terms as well as what there is do in town, movies, mall, etc.

    Food and Dining

Although some of the campus cafeteria food is not the best there is on this planet, the food is decent and the student body has a relatively decent variety to choose from on campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is definitely one of my favorite experiences while on campus, I was able to meet various people from different walks of life and was able to establish meaningful and lifelong relationships! It pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and connect with a large group of amazing people!

    Academic Rigor

Most all of the professors and instructors on campus help challenge students, but the university is also very helpful as far as faculty and instructional help and guidance goes.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love being a student here at ACU, the people are welcoming and friendly, and as a student one is given the the opportunity to engage in a number of different activities on campus (both academically and socially). The ACU campus is most definitely a true example of what community should be, the campus body is extremely helpful, supportive and caring! There are also a great number of ways to get plugged into various activities and events which take place throughout the year!

Drive in, parties, socials, movie nights, dancing, etc.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has a lot of different options., Breakfast is the best meal on campus. But even if you don't like any of the food, we always have chick fi la, pizza hut, and more on campus.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are really where you make your best friends. Its a ton of fun. The rooms are pretty big and everything.

    Academic Rigor

ACU is great because it pushes you to do your best.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of all options that are available. Talk to your counselor and let them know if you are struggling in any area because they are really trying to help

The campus police are fantastic. They are always nice and helpful whenever you have need of them. Just beware: they ARE real police, and they CAN pull you over and give you a ticket. Also, watch out for the unexpected stop sign on Campus Court.

    Clubs and Activities

There are no sororities or fraternities allowed at ACU, only Social Clubs, which are essentially the same thing. The process is much the same, including pledging and playful induction. These can provide an awesome social outlet for making friends and future connections.

    What to do for fun

Get in shape! Head out to the all-new recreation center and work out, swim, rock-climb, or play basketball or other sports. Around Abilene, there are some shopping opportunities, and other basic entertainment offerings like bowling or Putt-Putt. Don't expect an adventure every weekend at ACU, but you can certainly have a lot of fun if you try.

    Food and Dining

Meal plans, which are required for students who live on campus, are quite expensive. The food at the cafeteria, called The World Famous Bean or just The Bean, is usually of good quality and The Bean offers a fun atmosphere for studying or social interaction. There are flexible meal plan options.

    Dorm Life

Again, this depends on you. If you choose to immerse yourself in dorm life, you can definitely get a great experience. Freshman will have a midnight curfew during weekdays, which can be a bummer. After freshman year there is no curfew. Most dorms are quite nice and well-maintained to my knowledge.

    Academic Rigor

There are so many variables involved in this question. Personal academic ability, the subject matter, and the professor all factor in. I have been in classes that were Easy As, and classes where I really had to fight for a good grade. Overall, ACU provides a quality education, but this can vary from class to class.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep in mind what you're getting into: ACU is a Christian (specifically Church of Christ) institute. You will be required to take religion-heavy courses, including Bible, and community service hours will be required for more than one of your classes. Personally, I appreciate this, but I have encountered other students who don't like the experience.

    In three sentences

ACU is a beautiful campus and can provide a great experience for students. However, you get what you pay for, and ACU is expensive...very expensive. If you have the money and want a fun, comfortable college experience, ACU is for you.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

i am a upcoming student. however, my friend who is attending the university said that classes are easy if you study and make an effort.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure that ACU is the right place you will like to be, because if not you'll be stuck in place you don't like. Always try to visit the campus, its amazing and you will see if its what you want.

    In three sentences

i love this school. i love the fact that i can grow academically and spiritually. In a scale from 1 to 10 ill give it a 9 because its an amazing university but doesn't have a swimming team.

    Bang for the buck

ACU has helped me grow as a better Christian, mother and woman. I know that if I have a problem I can go to my professors and talk it out. The faculty and staff are understanding and compassionate. ACU's environment is fun and full of life.

    What to do for fun

    What to do for fun

Hang out with friends, take part in intramural sports, hang out at the library (yes, studying and talking), several events are held throughout the year for students to take part in or just attend

    Food and Dining

ACU dining is a step up from most college or university dining. There is the World Famous Bean which is a cafeteria on steroids. Good food is served from 6 am - 11pm. The Bean has over 100 different options each day and the staff is always friendly and willing to help you find what you need.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are clean and fun. ACU has the janitorial staff work 5 days of the week (M-F). RA's are always willing to help residents and events happen every other month or so. You meet so many friends in your dorm, so go out of your room!

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor depends on what you're majoring in and just how you deal with your assignments and studying. It is easy for some, harder for others. Still, professors offer assistance and welcome questions. Class sizes vary from around max of 250 and a low of 5-6. Professors want to know their students, so go see them whether you need help or not. It will make your life a little simpler if you need help.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Be social, you have a clean slate in college (no one knows your past). 2) Eat at the Action Station, Home Station, or the Grill in the Bean. 3) Join clubs and take part in the numerous events (but don't forget your studies). 4) Ask for help from your professors or your TA, the professors are more than willing to help and if you go enough they will know your name (they WANT to know you).

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is welcoming and homey. ACU cares about each and every one of its students, and strives to meet each of their students needs. ACU is a place where God is not put under a rug, but instead molded into the curriculum so that the students are taught how to go into the world and work with coworkers, all the while showing God's grace and love.

Great for these types of students

ACU is a good school for students who like smaller class sizes and want more one on one time with their professors. It is a school of opportunity and the university gives you multiple chances to listen to speakers from all over the world. It is a great atmosphere overall and I encourage prospective students to at least come check out the campus and visit for a weekend even if it may not being their cup of tea.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip is come into ACU with an open mind. Get involved in anything and test out the waters to what you do and do not like. Try to meet as many people as you can because those relationships can only help you in the future. Have fun, give God the glory and don't waste a minute of being unhappy!

    Bang for the buck

The tuition cost is ACU's biggest down fall. It really hurts to have to pay about $800 for an hour worth of classes and that is why I rely on loans and scholarships to help me. Going into my senior year does not allow me to transfer because I do not want to lose hours and I really do love being at ACU.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here! It has truly been a blessing. I have met lots of wonderful people and have had many once in a life time opportunities; for example meeting Joe Greene! I have gained wonderful experience being a student athletic trainer and at most schools you usually do not receive that kind of experience until your later years of college. ACU and Abilene are good, well rounded atmospheres and is a good college town to be apart of.

    Am learning a lot

ACU has taught me more than I could have ever imagined. Not only inside the classroom but also outside of the classroom and how to survive as the typical broke college student. The professors are great and I absolutely love all of my professors in the Exercise Science department. They make classes challenging but also are very open and willing to work with you to overcome the class.

    Clubs and Activities

As a graduate student, I am not really involved in clubs as I do not have the time. But there are news emails and other announcements posted about various clubs and activities that are always going on. There is never a boring moment at ACU.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is expensive but so worth it. The campus is small enough that you get included without being regarded as just a nameless face in a huge classroom. The experience is so worth the cost.

    Food and Dining

There is home cooking as well as familiar restaurants (Pizza Hut, Chic Fil A) within as well.

    Dorm Life

It is for graduate students but the housing is great, the RAs are understanding, and the other workers are nice, respectable, and willing to help. There is always something going on to connect residents. It has the convenience of being near campus but far enough to make it seem as if in its own world.

    Academic Rigor

The school is challenging and pushes you to your fullest without leaving you feeling burn out.

    Tips for prospective students

The staff are outgoing and very willing to help. Do not be afraid to ask questions or set up appointments for individual meetings. Get familiar with your campus outside of your classes. Meet as many people as you can, inside and outside your major. Participate in activities and pay attention to events that are coming near.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is an excellent college and campus. The choice of majors are diverse as are the faculty, students, and activities available. It is a welcoming experience that challenges you, embraces you, and steers you toward your future goals.

    Dorm Life

You only have to live in a dorm your first two years here, which I highly recommend.

    Academic Rigor

I would say that it is just a normal college. There is nothing that is too difficult, but that also has to do with what major you choose, and what you feel you are gifted at.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure and talk to the registrar if you are transferring in credit. Also, make sure your high school requirements match theirs. If you come here they will not necessarily tell you that you do not have something that you need, and then you will be required to take it even if they failed to tell you.

    In three sentences

It is an educational facility that has a medium sense of community. There are some things that you can get involved in, but the town itself does not have much going on. It is a small Christian campus that you will always see someone you know.

ACU has their own campus police department that works closely with the Abilene Police Department in various exercises ranging from bomb threats and sniper attacks. They are well-trained to handle any situation that arises, however the campus is located in an exceptionally safe part of town and crime is pretty much nonexistent.

    Greek Life

While ACU does not have a Greek life, they do have various social clubs that meet the same criteria but on a different level.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many social clubs and activities available that meets the need of every student.

Great for these types of students

ACU is a very diverse cultural university. There are students from almost every country at any given time on campus. The outreach provided by ACU encourages international students to attend and share their culture with others.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Sing Song is an amazing show put on by the students that goes beyond a talent show. It is almost a Broadway production that garners attention across the state and nation bringing many spectators to see the show.

    Bang for the buck

While ACU is more expensive because it is a private university, it is well worth the money in the education that you will receive. The personal attention to each student is invaluable and each student is a name and not a number. Professors know their students by name.

    What to do for fun

ACU is situated in Abilene, Texas and while it is not a big city, there is plenty of activities. The PRCA rodeo and other events are frequently at the coliseum. Also, there are a couple of lakes in the area for boating and fishing. Abilene has a state park with camping, swimming, and hiking trails.

    Food and Dining

The Bean at ACU is a varied dining experience. They have various stations serving all types of food, from salad to vegetarian. The Bean has a variety of food and accomodates food from various cultures. I do not know of another university dining room that serves steak to their students.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is definitely the way to begin at ACU. The dorms are spacious and provide various activities to involve everyone. This is a great way to make life long friends.

    Academic Rigor

I chose ACU because of their rigorous academic prowess. With the highest acceptance rate in the nation to medical school, you know the courses are preparing you for what is ahead.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to study for your classes. I encourage everyone to get to know their professors and attend all departmental functions. If you are having trouble in a class, make an appointment with that teacher and they will work with you to help you succeed.

    In three sentences

Teachers care a great deal about each student and are involved on a personal level. Academic courses are rigorous and prepare students well for their major. ACU is well worth the extra money for tuition because of the education and personal attention received.

We have Christian based social clubs instead of frats and sororities.

    Clubs and Activities

I was in a social club called GATA. We have social clubs instead of sororities or fraternities because it's a private Christian school. If you want to be involved on campus, a social club is your best bet. There are a ton of other clubs from art to fishing to join.

Great for these types of students

ACU is best for Christian/spiritual students of any level.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Overall the best/most unique ACU tradition has to be Sing Song, the annual song and dance production. It is a ton of fun to watch, and even more fun to perform in.

    Bang for the buck

People who get the most out of ACU are Christians pursuing degrees in business, accounting, finance, or bible. There are endless amenities here such as the brand new super gym on campus, and currently they are building a salon for students across the road. ACU offers everything they can think of to improve students' experience, not excluding free laundry services, handmade birthday cupcakes, and so forth.

    What to do for fun

Abilene seems small to people like me who come from bigger cities such as Dallas, but it's not a total wasteland. There's a decent mall with big brand stores and local mom and pop stores, my favorite being the Chocolate Box that features rare foreign candies. There's also mini golf, bowling, go-karts, paintball, horse riding ranches, and so forth.

    Food and Dining

The Bean is the campus cafeteria, which has decent and varied food. We also have on-campus Einstein's Bagels, Pizza Hut, Quizno's, Chick-fil-a, and Starbucks. There are also a ton of yummy places for food a few blocks down the road.

    Dorm Life

You must live in a dorm your first two years, with very few exemptions. The dorms are very nice, but obviously on the small side and unconvenient--I lived in Barret my second year and there was no kitchen in the entire building for us to use.

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be difficult depending on the subject and the professor. However the free resources on campus such as the writing center, speaking center, and learning commons are excellent to help you in any way you need it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you can pay for this school before you get here, don't expect to find the money once you've arrived. A lot of students transfer out after the first year because of finances. Also, you don't have to be Christian to attend, but it helps since chapel attendance is required.

    In three sentences

ACU has a highly spiritual, generous community of students and faculty. It is a very costly private school, with a lot of great and unique resources to help students. Their best majors are business and bible.

We have campus police literally seconds off campus. Any problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently, and everyone on campus is set into a text message system that will alert them if there are any problems. A very safe place.

    Greek Life

We have a few different social clubs. The most notable guy's clubs are Gamma Sigma Phi, Trojans, and Galaxy. The most notable girl's clubs are Sigma Theta Chi and Kojo Kai. Of course, Alpha Kai Omega is getting pretty big too.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs outside social clubs are very fun too. There are too many to list, so I'd suggest you check the website. In any club, you'll met many like minded people that are very easy to connect with. The intamurals are definitely a blast, and the freshman activities are unrivaled. Being a Freshman at ACU is the best.

Great for these types of students

    Outgoing, independent, studious.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The social clubs (basically equivalent to fraternities) are always fun to get involved with. Pledging usually takes place sophomore year. Sing Song is one of our biggest traditions. Freshman Follies is also a fun thing for Freshman to get involved with. And of course, the Lord Bless You and Keep you.

    Bang for the buck

There isn't much more you could ask for from a University. Great people, great education, and they tend to give out a decent amount of financial aid.

    What to do for fun

We have intramural sports that are ridiculously fun to do, and a full recreation center with fantastic equipment. Most of the stuff off campus is done with friends, and that is probably what you'll do for fun most frequently. Some people also like two-stepping which isn't too far away. There are many movies and things like that to do on campus as well. We have Sing Song in the spring, and a whole bunch of clubs to join. There of course many other things that I haven't mentioned. You'll have a lot of fun.

    Food and Dining

The Bean (our cafeteria) is fantastic! They have a great selection of food that all tastes fantastic. There are too many choices to go over! We also have a food court with a few different fast food places too. Aside from that, we have different cafes around campus as well. The food is great.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are almost surreal. You're basically surrounded by a group of people that you bond with, hang around with, and sometimes stay out past curfew to go to Ihop with. You don't have to stay in the dorm all 4 years, but I personally recommend staying in them at least two. Many friends come from dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

The rigor does depend on the major, but you will find that every major is challenging, and you will learn a lot. The professors are fantastic, and some even invite the class over for dinner! If you're looking for a good place to learn, ACU is among the best.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the University, and take the tour. What really sold me was the look of the campus, and talking to other students. Eat in downtown Abilene, and don't judge the city by it's size. Also, go to Wildcat Preview Day. It's fun.

    In three sentences

ACU is not only a fantastic place because of the education, but also and primarily because of the people. When you go to ACU, you will be surrounded by individual people from all walks of life, and all places, in an atmosphere that promotes individualism and success. If you are a non-christian and worried about what will happen, don't, because just about everyone is accepting at ACU, and they don't force anything upon you.

Great for these types of students

Anyone and everyone. There were all types of students there from punk to reggae to Christians.

    Bang for the buck

It is EXPENSIVE, and they charge for everything, but the education is worth it, I think.

    What to do for fun

Hung out with friends and went to Guitars dance hall on Thursday night! College night!

    Food and Dining

The bean gets old after a while, but the food is good when it is available.

    Dorm Life

Find a group of friends and you'll be fine. Curfew kinda sucks, but it is for your own good.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what your major is!

    Tips for prospective students

Go in with an open mind and find a group of friends that you belong with. It will make for a much better experience.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is insanely awesome. I really liked the environment and the people who surrounded me. The education was more than I could've asked for.

    Food and Dining

The food is average but the service try's very hard and they are the nicest people. Don't eat too much sweets, because there's always freshly baked cookies. The World Famous Bean has good food, but can get crowded.

    Dorm Life

Great community and safe. The RA's are awesome and honestly care about your safety and college enjoyment. The curfew is a blessing in disguise.

    Academic Rigor

Average, not too demanding. Like any college class, you can be tested more on the material the professor speaks allow rather than your book. Pay attention, and the world opens up.

    Tips for prospective students

Allow your peers to bless you.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is centered around bring its student's a quality education. At the same time, it easily becomes a second home for its students. It is very friendly and safe atmosphere.

    Food and Dining

At the World Famous Bean there are a lot of dining choices, and options to cater to everyone's needs. There's international food, vegetarian, deli, homestyle, and much more. My personal favorite is the deli line. The cafeteria can get a bit crowded sometimes especially during lunch which most people get right after daily Chapel.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms is one of the most fun experiences I have had yet at ACU. For first years, you do have a curfew on weekdays, but you and all of your friends are all in the same building at the same time! Plus the dorm staff, like Residential Assistants and Directors, are there for you which is definitely different from other schools. Throughout the year, the RA's will plan parties for their halls, and are mentors to you, which is especially helpful during your first year of college.

    Academic Rigor

With any college, there are some classes that are much easier than others, but at ACU I am pushed academically most of the time which is a good thing. Being pushed allows me to gain more knowledge that will follow me into the workforce.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to take a campus tour before you attend ACU. I am from Abilene, and I thought I knew the school like the back of my hand. That is, until I took a tour. It's a great opportunity to get to know some of the professors, and other people who are interested in ACU.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is, in one word, different. By different, I mean that in the best way possible. I always hear stories from my friends, who decided to attend large schools, about how they get lost among the crowd at their schools, and I have never felt that way at ACU.

    Campus Safety

We have a 24 hour police department on campus that are here to aid in anything a student may need- somebody to walk them back to their dorm or somebody to simply help unlock their car. They keep close watch over campus and help keep it a safe learning and living environment.

    Bang for the buck

Although, the cost to come to ACU is quite high, it is definitely worth it! There aren't many other colleges that offer education to get a living after college while offering ways to deepen your faith.

    What to do for fun

Abilene is a small town so there's not a whole lot of things to choose from. There is an amazing zoo where you can feed giraffes and see other lovely animals. There is an arcade place that is affordable to get in and have fun. There is a movie theatre and a mall for a nice day out.

    Food and Dining

The World Famous Bean offers many different choices every day. If you aren't really feeling cafeteria food on any particular day, you can just hop over to Chick-Fil-A or Einstein's Bagels and a few other choices around campus.

    Dorm Life

Amazing student RA's who are also friends and a confidant. They are very helpful in answering any types of questions or concerns you may have or directing you to somebody who can help. Also, the community bathrooms are typically very clean and well kept as we have two lovely women who help keep the place nice. The rooms are fairly well sized with plenty of space for clothes and storage.

    Academic Rigor

Professors tend to genuinely care about each student and if the student seeks help, advice or anything, the professors will work with them.

    Tips for prospective students

Use all of the resources the campus offers- such as the English majors in the library who help edit and offer suggestions on essays, the Discovery Program which helps students who are unsure of what they would like to major in find a place to fit in and Team 55 who help with technology if you're not so savvy in that area.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian is a top-notch college campus with new ways of approaching different aspects of life. Everybody here is very friendly and helpful; always smiling and willing to lend a helping hand. Professors genuinely care about each student they have and you can always count on them.

    Campus Safety

You will feel extremely safe on campus. However, that feeling of security will quickly disintegrate as you walk just a couple of blocks away from campus.

    Greek Life

ACU does not formally recognize fraternities/sororities. Because ACU is a private institution, they have social clubs. I will state no more as I have a strong negative bias towards all types of social clubs.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty and cover everything from swimming to international students to local/organic food.

Great for these types of students

If you do not affiliate with Church of Christ, do not worry. ACU is experiencing a tremendous growth in diversity.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every February there is an interesting event called Sing-Song. You are able to find videos/more information online. My favorite locations to visit on campus include the computer labs with large Apple computers, the basement of the library, the prayer room (equipped with a waterfall!) in the Bible building, the patio near the fountain lake, and all of the various cafes throughout campus.

    Bang for the buck

ACU is a private school. While expensive, they do offer many scholarships! Do not be afraid to ask your financial aid advisor!

    What to do for fun

Throughout the month there are various activities hosted by groups and social clubs. Because Abilene is a fairly small-sized city, there is not much to do on the weekends. Thank goodness for the Japanese Steakhouse and Natural Grocers.. they have become my favorite places to visit on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

Recently, campus dining services have realized there are students with food allergies (such as gluten). There is a large cafeteria (The World Famous Bean) with food of somewhat high quality. Each semester the selection of food in the cafeteria will either improve or increase (this past semester soy milk, gluten-free bread, and organic fair-trade coffee was added). There are several fast food restaurants such as Chick-Fil-A and Einstein Bagels, and various cafes throughout campus. On the weekends (however) you are severely limited in dining choices (only Einstein Bagels and The Bean are open with shortened hours).

    Dorm Life

I have only two complaints, and both are of great importance to me. First, most of the older dormitories have central cooling and heating. Second, recycling bins do not exist in most residence halls. Conversely, I appreciate the spontaneous events held in the residence halls (ex. open mic night, breakfast at midnight during finals week, movie nights, etc.).

    Academic Rigor

ACU is notorious for its academic rigor. However, not all professors are the same.

    Tips for prospective students

You are not likely to continue the friendships you make the first week of school (also referred to as Welcome Week here at ACU). Additionally, though this is general advice, do not fret if you are unable to find a group of friends immediately. You will find your niche if you seek students with similar interests (take advantage of the many freshman activities).

    In three sentences

Within three semesters, I can say (my friends & family as witnesses) I have experienced exponential spiritual, mental, and emotional growth. Although you can experience that in most college environments, ACU is exceptional in the aspect that the community and faculty will actually take an interest and help contribute to those areas of growth. Yes, that was only two sentences (this is the third).

    Campus Safety

I always feel extremely safe on campus. ACU has their own police department, with jurisdiction over the city as well as campus. The Lunsford Trail, a jogging trail, has several emergency stops along it. ACU PD also has an email/text alert system anytime there is an emergency on campus.

    Greek Life

There are no sororities or fraternities at ACU. Instead, there are social clubs. They're very similar, but the campus has more regulation over them than if they were national chapters. There is still pledging and club-specific events, but there is no Greek Row.

    Clubs and Activities

There are several different clubs on campus and they all host different events. The Black Student Association has an annual skate night; the Office of Multicultural Enrichment hosts an annual block party; Hispanos Unidos hosts Entra La Plaza every year, with food and a show; Swing Cats has an annual Fall Stomp (swing dance with the ACU Jazz Band); the International Student Association hosts the annual culture show, Ethnos; Shades, the campus step crew, usually has a performance; and the list goes on...

Great for these types of students

Great for students looking to study more than party, and students searching for a Christ-in-the-classroom type of atmosphere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

ACU hosts Sing Song every spring. It's a fun show choir type of experience with each of the different social clubs and classes creating their own A-capella parodies.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is very expensive. It is impossible to afford ACU without some type of financial aid.

    What to do for fun

At ACU, what you do for fun depends largely on your circle of friends. Many of my friends enjoy dancing at either Oplin's or Guitars (both two-stepping establishments). There is a swing dancing club on campus, as well as several social clubs (sorority/fraternity alternatives; there is no Greek Row at ACU). The BSA usually hosts a skate-night at the beginning of the semester. ACU is an alcohol and drug free campus, and Abilene is a very small West Texas city.

    Food and Dining

All students at ACU are required to have some type of meal plan. The meal plan includes a certain amount of bean bucks which can be used in the food court or in the coffee shops around campus, and access to the Bean, the cafeteria. The Bean is set up buffet style, so you can eat as much as you want once you have access, although the food is pretty mediocre with an occasional gem.

    Dorm Life

All Freshman and Sophomores at ACU are required to live in a dorm, with few exceptions. Freshman have a curfew at midnight Sunday through Thursday. Thursdays are visiting days for opposite genders in all dorms. There is usually a close community with your hall-mates, especially in the Freshman dorms. It's an easy way to get to know your peers on campus.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of the assignments depend largely on the professor and the level of the class. However, no matter which class, professors are very willing to talk with you or email you about assignments you are having difficulty on. Also, the Monday of finals week is usually Dead Day - a day set aside with no classes or tests and a time when the professors will usually be in their office all day to meet with students who have last minute questions.

    Tips for prospective students

People on campus are, in my experience, very friendly, and if you're not from an area where strangers smile and ask how you're doing, it can be overwhelming. Because it is a private school, tuition is very expensive, so start asking about/looking for scholarships as soon as possible. Abilene, the town surrounding the campus, does not have a lot of attractions for college students, so while there are things to do around town, for the most part you have to create your own fun.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is a very Christ-centered campus, and there is an emphasis on service learning (volunteering) in the majority of your classes. The professors are very friendly and approachable. The Bible classes are taught from a historical perspective as well as a religious one, with a heavy emphasis on academic research, not just the professor's opinion on passages.

We do have chapel every day for 30 minutes, but you only have to get 55 credits throughout each semester.

    What to do for fun

The Lucky Mule and Guitars are two fun places most students go to on the weekends. There is always live country music and a bar open.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is known as The Bean and there are chefs there who cook the food in front of you. They also have Chick-Fil-A, Einstein's, Quiznos, and Starbucks on campus.

    Dorm Life

You have to live in the dorms at ACU for two years. They are bigger than most other state schools and are a lot cleaner too. They are NOT co-ed.

    Academic Rigor

The professors definitely push you in each course, but they do want to see you succeed. They are always telling students they can email or call them if they have any questions on assignments or projects.

    Tips for prospective students

I'd consider the cost at first. It is expensive but if you want to be surrounded by a caring community, then the cost is worth it.

    In three sentences

I'd rate ACU a 4 out of 5 overall because of it's Christian atmosphere and the excellent professors who genuinely care about you and want to see you succeed. The only bad thing is that it is located in the middle of west Texas, so there isn't much to do in the city.

ACU has a deputized police force that patrols the neighborhood next to campus and the campus itself.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

ACU has an event called Sing Song. This event is a show, of sorts, in which the graduation classes and social clubs create a choreographed, musical skit each.

    Food and Dining

The main dining boutique is the cafeteria, the World Famous Bean, offers a multitude of dinning options all day long (including a grill, an international line, and a vegan line).

    Dorm Life

Dorm life can lead to crazy experiences. The Resident Life department pushes the residents to bond with each other. Some of my best friends were on my hall Freshman year.

    Academic Rigor

Abilene Christian University pushes their students to innovate their own beliefs and challenge them to work exceptionally on academics.

    Tips for prospective students

Attempt to get scholarships and grants as soon as possible. ACU's tuition prices continue to to rise, and financial aid is a must.

    In three sentences

ACU looks to prepare their students to become real, innovative, and exceptional individuals through the concepts of Christian leadership, community, and service. The faculty and staff help to make the road through higher education above par. But, most of all, they help their students to achieve excellence.

Campus police patrol the campus everyday, 24/7. They also work with the City Police Department in order to keep the school, and community surrounding the school safe.

    Greek Life

    No Sororities or Fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs that replace Sororities and Fraternities, and many other organizations also. All of these are great ways to meet people, and everyone in them always speaks of having great times and having made great friends in them.

Great for these types of students

Every kind of student, there is a place for everyone.

    Bang for the buck

It's totally worth it, the community is nice, the knowledge is amazing and amazing people are teaching/channeling that knowledge to the students. I recommend ACU to anyone who wants a five star education and to have a good time getting it!

    What to do for fun

Chill with friends, hang out in the library (who would have thought?), go to the mall in town, participate in campus put-on activities, go to the local lakes.

    Food and Dining

The food is good and not like most cafeteria food, the menu changes every meal, every day. The staff is nice and completely helpful. I've gained my Freshman 15 already!

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is awesome! I have met great people and made many friends through my dorm life. There are generally monthly activities either for each floor or for the whole dorm, and its always a good time when a group of guys gets together.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are made to get the students where they need to be for the work force. Therefore, they are not simple. Students must pay attention, ask questions (clarify), and study. All this can be done while still having a great time and allowing down time.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Be prepared to be amazed by the family like community. 2) Be yourself, you'll fit in. 3) Study, but make some time for fun.

    In three sentences

ACU is an extraordinary place of learning. The professors and students all focus on helping others and making each and every person the best they can be. The fact that their mission is to input Christian people into the workforce to make a difference and reveal God's glory every day is the reason I attend ACU.

This campus really is safe. There's the occasional reports and crimes, but no campus is without those. You don't have to be fearing for your safety when walking late at night. Don't be rash and stupid, but there isn't high concern for safety either.

    Bang for the buck

When ACU brags about their low student to faculty ratio, they aren't joking. There are very few big lecture classes, and most classes stay the average 20-40 people in a class. ACU is full of undergraduate opportunities that can help you get into a great job, or on to graduate school with some experience already under your belt.

    What to do for fun

Abilene doesn't have a lot to offer, but there's still things to do. The town is not a late night place as most things close, as the joke goes, when the sun goes down. You tend to be a bit more creative with entertainment at times due to the lack of places that are open.

    Food and Dining

There are those not so great moments in cafeteria dining, but the World Famous Bean does a very good job at offering variety and at least something to eat at all times that it is open.

    Dorm Life

There's always the good and bad things that can be found. You do get a free washer and dryer and most of the rooms are a good size for two people, but it really just depends on which dorm you end up at.

    Academic Rigor

While not all degrees are the same, Abilene Christian does have a great standard and tries to ensure that you will be challenged in your studies.

    Tips for prospective students

The tuition might seem daunting, but it's worth the money as long as you work to take advantage of the opportunities you have. Don't be afraid to talk to your professors and get to know them, it's easy to do here.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian is the place for those that would enjoy a small university and really want to concentrate on their education. It's easy to get connected to great opportunities.

    Greek Life

While we do not have Panhellenic Greek life, we do have social clubs. Social clubs are much like sororities and fraternities, but they are Christ-centered and they are more like a very close family then anything else. You do have to go to rushes and you have to go through pledging to be in one, but it is 100% worth it.

    What to do for fun

From movie nights in a lecture hall to two-stepping dances to free food and love music, ACU has it all. ACU is community driven, so the school plans and pays for many events throughout the semester. These are some of the most fun times you'll have with your friends.

    Food and Dining

The food at ACU is not great, but there are a lot of options so don't worry about not being able to find something you like. The cafeteria is usually decent and the restaurants on campus are always pretty good. You definitely will never go hungry here.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great. All students are required to live in the dorm their first two years. This is great because you can just walk down the hall to see if your friends are home. The only downside is that visitation rules are very strict.

    Academic Rigor

I have been challenged more than I ever thought possible here at ACU. The classes are difficult, but it is college, so that is to be expected. The teachers really care about their students here and they want to challenge them while helping them to be the best they can be.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get more financial aid even if your parents can afford to pay. Tuition is so high that it is worth looking for outside scholarships to help you pay. Also, don't be afraid to take a leap and go somewhere far from home.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is a Christ-centered family. The school is full of some of the best teachers who really care about building relationships with their students. I transferred here last year from a similar university and have never once doubted my decision.

I probably will not pledge, but pledging is not allowed until sophomore year. I think this is really great to allow freshmen some time to grow on their own and manage their own time before becoming a part of a club.

    What to do for fun

Abilene does not have a wide selection of things to do, but there are definitely ways to have fun anyways. There is a drive in movie theater always with double features off campus, and many clubs and opportunities to get involved on campus.

    Food and Dining

The World Famous Bean is buffet style with multiple stations open. There is always one option I found appetizing, and, though it was hard to avoid the dessert bar, it was alright finding healthy options. People with allergies may have a hard time. Bean Bucks may be used in various food places around campus like Starbucks and Chick-Fil-A.

    Dorm Life

The Resident Life staff is extremely helpful and loving. I felt like the Resident Assistants I knew and met were all there to help any resident find what they needed in the community of the dorm and were well trained to handle various situations. Though there is curfew at midnight on weeknights, it is an opportunity to make new friends or get some much needed sleep.

    Academic Rigor

Though I do not have other college experience to confirm, my first year as a Kinesiology major as been fairly rigorous. Biology and Developmental Psychology have been difficult, and my non-major courses have been a bit easier, but I feel each class has done its job in preparing me for the next class.

    Tips for prospective students

Though 55 chapel credits are needed in a semester, there are plenty of opportunites to fulfill this requirement. Time management is the biggest challenge for many people, especially with all the different opportunities to commit, so be sure to be fully committed to what you do and don't over commit. Also, in the bigger classes (typically not more than 150 students) introduce yourself to your teachers in the first week so that if you need help, they will already know who you are. It is easy to get to know the teacher.

    In three sentences

The campus is peaceful and there is a huge sense of community. I always felt welcome and the teachers are always willing to help and are generally available. The faculty helps foster wonderful academic, spiritual and relational growth.

Most of the college is vacated on Thursday nights due to the extreme love of country dancing and the fact that Guitars lets ladies in for free that night. We also hang out downtown or go to Primetime, an arcade-type place where people can bowl, putt-putt, ride go-carts, or play laser tag. There are also multiple museums and a zoo.

    Food and Dining

The ONE and ONLY cafeteria is called The Bean and the food there ranges from terrible to slightly above average. But there is a food court with Chickfila, Einstein's Bagels, Quiznos Subs, and Pizza Hut- so that makes things better.

Well parents do not worry. Also, on the trail around campus there are emergency posts every so often.

    Clubs and Activities

Social clubs are SO fun! You can't start pledging till sophomore year because ACU wants you to get settled and get a handle on academics freshman year which is a good idea:) Anyway, they are so fun, I loved rushing and pledging. I just suggest absolutely doing it:) Besides social clubs, there are regular clubs and other activities--the best thing is to check out ACU's website!

Great for these types of students

I would say anyone! Like I said before, just come for a visit and see how you feel about it!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Well traditions would include Sing Song and Freshman Follies! They are so much fun! Also, during the fall you most likely will here various pledges yelling their chants at fountains or clocks or while sitting in Kojie Park--thats as unusual as it get;) Best thing is to visit and check out ACU's website!

    Bang for the buck

Being a private school, tuition can be expensive, but in my experience I did well getting scholarships and my financial aid person really helped out with figuring out other stuff. ACU is very helpful in setting up plans and helping you find as much financial aid as possible--do not think you cannot come here because of money, it is possible! Just come for a visit and talk to financial aid, like I said they are super helpful. (ALSO, just study hard for those ACT and SATs)

    What to do for fun

Well, besides the various on-campus activities, one of the places to go is Oplands on friday nights:) It is a country dancing hall and it is so much fun just remember to bring a date;) Oh something many people do on campus is hammocking! If it is a nice day out literally so many people will be outside on their travel hammocks studying or reading or just hanging out. I know me and my friends find a group of trees and just end up in a circle of hammocks relaxing.

    Food and Dining

The bean is great! It offers many different options and it's easy to make healthy choices. I would say compared to the other dining halls/cafeterias at all the other college campuses I visited ACU's is pretty great:)

    Dorm Life

Well guys, dorms are dorms. Every college campus has pretty much the same kind of dorms. However, living on campus is actually pretty great:) I lived in Gardner freshman year and loved it--absolutely suggesting you choose it for your first choice if you are a girl. Sophomore year I am going to be in Sikes which is SO AWESOME--it literally is like a mini hotel room:)

    Academic Rigor

ACU has great degree plans and the counselors/advisors here are awesome about helping you out whether its figuring out your classes or deciding on a major. In general, ACU is really good about making sure you are getting a good education and studying something you love! Most likely if we don't have the plan teachers and advisors will work with you to create a plan that fits you--that is how many degrees came about.

    Tips for prospective students

All I can suggest is really consider ACU; just come for a visit and see if you FEEL like you would love it here and if this is just the place for you!

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

Safety at ACU is top notch. The police department is excellent and willing to help you out. As a girl, I never worried for my safety on campus. The police officers will offer to walk you home if you feel uneasy. And speaking as an only child, who is the daughter of 2 US Marines, my parents were very pleased with the safety of our campus (and that should tell you something). Now there are some not so great parts of Abilene, but that is any college area.

    Greek Life

We do have social clubs even though we are not technically associated with the Greek system. So if you're looking for a sorority or a fraternity, you don't have to look too far.

    Clubs and Activities

Intramurals are SUPER important and competitive here. And they happen all year around for any level of athlete. We have tons of clubs and organizations from missions volunteer groups, to theater groups, and so many more.

Great for these types of students

It really is great for anyone. There is a lot of structure, so that may be difficult for some people. But even if you are not a Christian, even though it is a great environment for your faith to thrive, there is such a richness in the education and the benefits of a small town school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The echo wall is probably the most unusual thing I have ever seen on a campus, but you can only find that once you get in! ACU's library is also home to the largest bible in the world. We pray and worship. Multiple times a day, everyday. I had a bible teacher that would have everyone stand up and sing a song from chapel if we seemed too sleepy (it was great too)!

    Bang for the buck

The alumni network is world class, the professors are excellent, the environment is safe, and it prepares its students well. That being said, $36,000+ a year is pretty steep; even with scholarships and grants. I absolutely love the school, but those student loans are going to sting for a while.

    What to do for fun

It's true, Abilene is no Dallas, Fort Worth, or Austin. But ACU offers tons of things to get involved in for entertainment. There is always a sporting event in town (especially because of the two other colleges in town). There is a country dance hall, drive in movie, the Zoo, and the mall that we spent most of our time at. Abilene Lake is beautiful too, especially at sunset.

    Food and Dining

The Bean is awesome! Even when you're at the end of the second semester and sick of going in there the food still tastes good. Plus, if you're not interested in the Bean there are other places to eat in the campus center. Healthy options available too! Excellent salad and sandwich station.

    Dorm Life

Our dorms were pretty well kept, though nothing will come close to actually being home. The Resident Life staff was great. They are there if you need them and can be extremely helpful.

    Academic Rigor

We cover a lot of material in depth, but it never gets out of reach for anyone. As a student athlete my classes were very manageable even when we were in season. The professors are extremely helpful and very clear on their expectations.

    Tips for prospective students

    - If you have a question, ASK! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. -Get involved. At ACU, if you are bored or left out it is simply because you didn't get out there. There are tons of activities and groups to get involved in to make this experience an unforgettable one. - Do your homework on time. With all the fun stuff, time management can go down the drain. Just remember why you're there in the first place. - Get comfortable with technology, we use it a lot.

    In three sentences

The professors are extremely knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. The environment is better than any other I have been in. They expect a certain level of academics and integration into the community that will only help their students.

We are the wildcats. So, naturally, we have wildcats on campus! No, I do not mean students. We literally have cats on campus. Cats that most people have as pets, not big, scary cats. We have tons of them! Orange, black, white, gray, silver, Cheshire, calico, tabby...all kinds of cats! And, of course, they have kittens! It is absolutely adorable to watch the little kittens grow and communicate with the other cats. If you're lucky, one will warm up to you and adopt you as their human pal!

    Bang for the buck

Though expensive, you truly see where all of your money is going. Advancements are constantly being made and you can see the bettering of the school that will make your time at ACU that much more enjoyable!

    What to do for fun

For fun at ACU, you can: Hit up the gym to play some volleyball, basketball, swimming pool games, racquetball, and more! Enjoy some friend time at Starbucks Enjoy the musical talents of students around campus Play the extracurricular games and sports that ACU put together themselves Go to a dance that ACU staff puts together for the students Go to a football, basketball or volleyball game and enjoy a cookout right outside the games And soak up the great friendships that will be created at ACU!

    Food and Dining

The Bean is delicious! How many students can honestly say that their school offers amazing food? With nine different areas to get food (not including the restaurants inside the cafe), one will never be left hungry! Miss dinner studying? Don't worry! The Bean is open late! Go to an early morning workout class? The Bean opens at 7 AM! Enjoy a delicious made-to-order omelet or make a waffle! Have to grab a quick lunch before class? Grab a quick meal at Einstein's Bagels, Pizza Hut, Chick Fil A, or Quiznos! Needing a home style meal? The Bean has a Home Zone that offers food just like you were back in your own house! You will never be disappointed at the World Famous Bean!

    Dorm Life

I had the greatest time in my Freshman dorm! We became such a family that, when tragedy struck, we decided to be together in a giant sleepover in the hallway to ensure everyone that we were safe. We were so close to each other that we created a Web show to have memories to look back on and laugh. Even in summer, I am always in contact with my dorm sisters! My friends at other colleges all tell me they barely even knew their dorm-mates names. ACU truly went above and beyond in their dorm set up!

    Academic Rigor

Constantly, ACU keeps looking for ways to push their students to their full potential. Tutoring classes are always offered for every situation, teachers encourage students to reach out to them for help, students create study groups, and extracurricular classes are offered to get ahead. I did not expect to achieve half of the things that I did academically at ACU, but they revealed my true ability to myself and, with their support, I amazed myself! ACU is a strong institution academically.

    Tips for prospective students

I would tell prospective students to come into Abilene Christian University (ACU) with an attitude of excitement and expectation. Though you will be nervous, you will feel yourself warming up to the place in no time. Also, do not miss out during Welcome Week! You will be exhausted but being around all the incoming students creates an atmosphere of family and community. Furthermore, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXQUISITE LIBRARY! With quiet rooms, technology everywhere, and a Starbucks, you will definitely enjoy studying! Lastly, have fun but remember why you are there- education. ACU offers an unbelievable faculty that genuinely care about you and your future. Take the time to get to know your teacher's teaching styles and utilize your observations to excel in class. Do not be afraid to ask for help from your teacher! They love you and want to help you succeed!

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University offers the best college experience one can ask for. Though a religious institution, one never feels judged or out of place. All the aspects of Abilene Christian University, including food, education, social aspects, extracurricular activities, clubs, dorm life, etc., are extraordinary and deserve the utmost recognition.

    Campus Safety

The campus is really safe with ACU police patrolling 24/7 and the light poles placed periodically around campus that you can hit in case of an emergency.

Great for these types of students

Great for students of faith looking to have a strong Christian influence while they are in college. Great for students who like to be social and get involved with activities or clubs.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The best tradition is opening chapel, more commonly referred to as the Harry Potter chapel because all the professors come out in their doctoral robes. They march in all of the flags that represent staff or students from different countries, held by students from that countries as well as all the state flags. There are speeches and singing and it is just a great way to kick off the year.

    Bang for the buck

College is really what you make it. While ACU is crazy expensive, I do believe that the facilities, opportunities, resources, and education that they provide you with is really worth it in the end. You have all sorts of technology at your fingertips, and even people there to teach you how to work the technology. The professors do well at integrating Christ and faith into the teaching as well as life lessons. The people here really do care about students and to me that experience is priceless.

    What to do for fun

Abilene does not have a ton of things to do, but there are a few that will keep you out of trouble. There is a drive in movie theater, a skating place, a bowling alley, a mall, a dance hall. A lot of students go to Guitars, a country bar and dance hall, on Thursday nights because college students get in free. Men in town also know that college girls will be there that night and so it can get a little uncomfortable. However, if you go with a group and dance with people you know, it can be a lot of fun. There is also a dance hall in Oplin, about 30 minutes outside of town, that mainly has older people and college kids and is also a lot of fun.

    Food and Dining

Overall, the Bean and other food options on campus are above par. The cafeteria is pretty good about offering a variety of food and accommodating all types of eating preferences such as vegetarian and gluten free. There is one station, The Action Station, which normally has the best food, but has the longest line because students get to pick what ingredients are in the dish and there is only one man running it. The grilled cheeses are always a safe bet if nothing looks good that day because they are always delicious. Another negative thing is the fruit tends to not be very fresh or good, besides the apples they have in baskets around the cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

ACU tries to match students who go potluck with students who would be like them. In my case this did not work out very well. My roommate and I were not similar at all in our personality or interests. The dorms freshman year are pretty old, but are maintained and cleaned well. Some halls in my dorm last year did stuff together all the time, mine however, maybe hung out once or twice. Your experience in the dorm really depends on your roommate and the RA. This year I am having a much better experience in Barret Hall. Sophomore year gets better because there is a variety of housing options and you already have friends you can plan to room with.

    Academic Rigor

ACU is a fairly prestigious school and that is mainly because of their academic rigor. It is pretty easy to pass classes at ACU, but if a student is going for a 4.0 like I am, the intensity and volume of the work load can get pretty strenuous. That being said, as with every college, it depends on the major. My major is Family Studies and is not near as difficult as Biology. The course work is also not so hard that only very intelligent people can excel. If you truly work hard, show up to class, and pay attention, acing classes becomes much easier. ACU's course work is not so much challenging in the length of assignments and number of assignments as it is how deep and critical you have to think in order to complete them. They really focus on challenging your mind rather than just taking up all your time with homework which I really enjoy.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors because most of them truly do want to know you. The professors at ACU are great mentors as well as friends and want to see you do well in the class. Go to chapel as much as you can. Chapel, while it can get boring and some days are not that great, is a great time to be still before God, listen to some inspiring speakers and socialize with friends. Get out of the ACU bubble frequently. ACU does tend to keep students wrapped in a bubble and away from the rest of the world. Try to get off campus and into the community that may not be as Christian as on-campus. Serve in the community. Abilene has the most churches per square mile than any other town in the nation, which means there are tons of service opportunities. This may seem annoying and a waste of your time at first, but it is so rewarding in the end. Students are always going out individually or in groups to serve and it makes the town of Abilene a better and more enjoyable place to be.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is a Christ centered community that truly cares about the success and character of its students. Abilene Christian University cares about the spiritual lives of the students as well as the academic. They provide excellent resources and facilities for students to succeed.

    What to do for fun

Social clubs are surprisingly popular around here, we have 27 percent of the students pledge and that is a great way to make friends. Theater and choir are also great activities any student is able to participate in for fun. For every holiday, and even for random reasons, parties are thrown in all of the dorms and sometimes over campus as social events.

    Food and Dining

The World Famous Bean, despite its name, is not exactly world-famous, but the food is pretty delicious. It offers food of all kinds whether you are a vegetarian, a meat lover, someone who is gluten free, or if you just want a home-cooked meal. The staff here are incredibly friendly and will do anything to serve a student, or even their fellow co-workers.

    Dorm Life

For the most part dorm are pretty nice and well-kept. As weeks pass, you can see relationships begin to form within the halls and in some dorms, throughout the entire dorm. Dorm life becomes normal and those around you grow to be some of your best friends and could almost be considered family.

    Academic Rigor

Professors at Abilene Christian are more than concerned with student success. The courses are somewhat challenging, but are very involved. When teaching, professors correlate real life instances and God to everything that is mentioned in class which helps students learn and develop on more than just an academic level.

    Tips for prospective students

First off, be cautious when choosing dorms because some students are not entirely thrilled with their choices. The food is great, but it can grow tiring eating in the World Famous Bean daily so make connections with professors for home-cooked meals. If cats are something you are interested in then this may just be the place for you because we have random wildcats running around campus.

    In three sentences

Abilene Christian University is a family-oriented college dedicated to helping the community. The campus is beautiful and is continuously being improved. The feeling itself of being on campus makes students feel at peace and God is definitely present here.

    What to do for fun

Because ACU is on the opposite side of the loop we don't have much to do. But in Abilene period we have a place like Dave and busters called Prime Time.. They give discount to college kids on certain nights. Most people just go out to dinner for the weekend.

    Food and Dining

The food is not good. They serve the samething almost everyday it gets old really fast. Most people come in with high hopes because it's the World Famous Bean but calm them down. This is a cafeteria like any other college cafe. The only time you will scream over food is when there's important people on campus. On those days make sure you go to the bean no matter what, especially at dinner time. The staff people are amazing on the other hand and always have a smile for you no matter what. They add excitement and life to the Bean. They will talk to you and ask about your day every time they see you.

    Dorm Life

Whatever you don't make sure you register on time!! I'm a freshman living in sophomore dorm and the best part about is you and your roommate share the bathroom. But honestly I would take the community showers and the hall full of screaming girls because you have that feeling of belonging. Even though you may be an introvert still try and make friends because you never know when you will meet them again. When your dorm our the campus has activites make sure you go to them and participate because you won't realize how many friends you will make. I met some of my really good friends by stepping out of my shell and getting involved.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the teachers are really a tentative and care about you. And when you get them take advantage of every opportunity they give you. The most challenging class across the board your freshman year is cornerstone. It's not because the material is hard you will just fill as if there's no point so you will find it hard to go to class. Just because your class starts off rough and hard don't give up because it's just your teacher trying to get you back in the swing of things. As they get to know their class they will ease up and you will enjoy it a lot more.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not attend parties where a lot of people are. No matter what they will get busted and you will get a MIP. Make sure you go to chapel so you will not be one of those people who are scrounging for chapel credits at the end of November. With your roommate make sure y'all talk your problems out so there's not any built up hostility. When you're filling out the survey for housing do not lie on it because it will only make things hard on you. And when you and your roommate meet go over the boundaries nod expectations so there isn't any misunderstandings.

    In three sentences

They have a glamorous campus. The people are nice and friendly they always have a caring smile for you. ACU has a sense of family and community.

There's cameras everywhere, little stands that have a button to call 911 on the spot. Which is why everyone walks everywhere without being fearful.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek life, because it's not christian friendly. Which is think is horrible, so what. We're all sinners, you're not pure, no one will ever be. Greek life shouldn't be looked down upon on.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs here aren't a big deal, which is why I say there is no school spirit. There hasn't been a single pep rally since I've been here. This isn't an actual college experience.

Great for these types of students

There's not any actual clicks here to begin with.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Ring Before Spring, legend has it, if you don't get proposed by your second semester senior year, you'll be alone forever. All the girls here a boy crazy. It is ridiculous. You shouldn't attend college if your most important priority is to get married.

    Bang for the buck

If you could somehow spread the word on how we need new places to eat, new things to do, that would be great!

    What to do for fun

There's a few bars, hookah lounges, movies, mall, arcades, clubs to go to. But they're not anything to be hyped about. If you were to judge all these things on a scale from 1-10, it barely hits a five, and I'm being nice. There needs to be more things to do here, things worth spending my money on.

    Food and Dining

There's not much dining here since the town is on the small side. All the best restaurants are on the other side of town. Which is a downer because not everyone has a car. The cafeteria food is an upgrade from high-school food. But again, because the students pay so much, food options should be expanded. Variety and location choices need to be added drastically.

    Dorm Life

You'll more than likely meet great, yet strange people. There's coed, but the girls are on one side of the building and the guys on the other end. You need a key to get into every room. Since it's a christian university, they try to keep the genders separated. The rooms are decent size, it's not fancy, but it works. Renovation would be nice, seeing that the school is so expensive you would think the rooms would be nicer.

    Academic Rigor

It's more memorization than anything. Unless when it comes to math. As long as you make some time to study, anyone can pass.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't buy anything from the campus store, it's a rip off, unless you need scan-trons. Rent your books off of Cheggs.com. The only loans I recommend any students to take out are subsidized loans because they don't come with interest and you pay back exactly what you borrow, no surprises. A loan called The Be On Time loan is the best thing to get. If you graduate on time, the loan is forgiven and turned into a grant; which could mean extra money in your pocket, ask about it. Learn to stay organized, once you get in the habit you'll be fine. Don't get aroused by all the sweets in the cafeteria, beware the Freshman 15, hit the gym! Above all, be yourself. This is your start, your start to really show everyone what you're made of, what you can contribute, be the difference.

    In three sentences

The university is generally caring and friendly environment. However, it's not actually college worthy when it comes to activities or spirit. The buildings are lovely, if were still in the 1900's; renovation is more than welcomed in my perspective.

It's tough but the teachers will help you. You just have to be willing to ask for help. The classes are decent sized.

Abilene is a small town, but there are many things to do for fun, and Dallas is an hour and a half away. Easily you can do about anything in Abilene. The ACU campus has a new rec center built that you can keep in shape with every day. They offer classes, like Pilates and Zumba, and they have three pools. A Lap Pool, Lazy River and a normal pool. You will never be board at ACU.

    Food and Dining

The Bean and Food Hall are in the center of campus and are very well kept.

    Dorm Life

The dorm halls look nice and have a family-like atmosphere.

    Academic Rigor

The classes look very engaging and keep you into your chosen area of study.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want the feel of a big school without the feeling of being lost, then please conciser ACU. The faculty and students are super nice! The campus has the feeling of a family atmosphere and that everyone is friends with everybody. The teachers really want you there and want to help you become the best in your field.

    In three sentences

I loved the campus! It has the feel of a big campus without the over sized classrooms and the biggest class I have heard of is around 25 to 30, so like my high school right now. The Journalism department, which is what I will be enrolled in, is small and the program offers a lot in order to help your grow.

For the town of Abilene there are about as many cops as there are students! There is a police station right off of ACU's campus and they constantly patrol. Abilene is the kind of place where you will feel reasonably safe no matter where you may be.

    Greek Life

Social Clubs. You can pledge one of these clubs in a 5 week process starting the fall semester of your sophomore year.

Great for these types of students

I would say that ACU is great for someone who is laid back, enjoys southern hospitality, and likes small atmospheres where they can have close and meaningful relationships.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

SING SONG! Sing Song is an annual event that is held in the Spring semester and brings in many of our alumni. There are class acts and club acts that bring a music and choreography together to bring an awesome show. It really brings a different vibe than many other traditions that you may see at other colleges.

    Food and Dining

The World Famous Bean serves a wide variety of foods and tries to make sure that they are addressing everyone's wants and needs. There are many different stations ranging from pizza to waffle machines as well as a fully stocked salad bar and sandwich line where you can have wraps, a croissant or a ham and cheese. It may not be a 5 star restaurant, but it surely does the job!

    Dorm Life

I would say that ACU has some of the nicest dorms around. I would also say that the RA's are intentional with their relationships with their residents and they hold some pretty awesome events throughout the semester. Another cool part about ACU is that there is probably a dorm that suites your personality, and you would be surprised by how well they match you up with a roommate! The rooms are cozy and all though freshmen do have community bathrooms, it's not nearly as bad as it seems. The freshmen dorms leave plenty of room for your storage and the people in your hall can easily become some of your best friends.

    Academic Rigor

Compared to my friends at other colleges and universities we have a bit more homework. Because the classes are smaller you get a lot more one on one time with the professors and you are able to work more closely with the other students in your classes. Many of the classes at ACU do not base your entire grade off of 2 tests ( a midterm and a final), and this can be helpful if you are not the best test taker. Also, ACU offers a program called Alpha scholars to those who need additional help and is an awesome resource for many aspects of college life.

We have our own police force on campus. They patrol very frequently you can't go around the whole campus without seeing an officer. They have poles on paths around campus that alert the police if you are in a dangerous situation, you need help, or you just aren't comfortable and the will come get you and get you to where you are going.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek life on campus. ACU prides itself on having created it's own clubs and organizations. That are all student lead.

    Clubs and Activities

We have a variety of clubs on campus which were all formed on campus by students. There is a variety of events on campus yearly. Also ACU has a lot of community services that we participate in and ACU student volunteer over 20,000 hours a year.

Sing song is probably one of the best events on campus students come together from different grades and clubs and come up with skits and songs and perform them in front of audiences.

    Bang for the buck

ACU is very expensive but the quality of the teacher you have and how helpful they are makes it worth it. The atmosphere and the community of together as one is unbelievable astonishing. The opportunities they provide while you are in school are great but the even help you after you graduate in finding a job or continuing your education.

I volunteer twice a week on and off campus. I participate in school functions that happen throughout the year. I also enjoy the recreation center that is on campus.

ACU provides a variety of food at different times throughout the day. They have food that is available all day. Which means that if you have a crazy schedule you can always get food.

    Academic Rigor

ACU challenges you in its courses and provides a very unique styles of teaching that keeps you engaged and focused. ACU teachers are wonderful and provide a fun way of learning and a pretty challenging level. But one you can obtain if you set your mind to it.

    Tips for prospective students

There are great opportunities here and if you come here you should take advantage of them. If you have doubts about coming because you aren't sure about if they are genuinely welcoming they mean very word they say. It's very cliche but there is truly an ACU difference.

ACU has a beautiful campus! It has a lot of impressive bronze statues and structures throughout the campus, including Jacob's Dream, The Ascension, and the Tower of Light.

    Bang for the buck

ACU costs a lot of money. A LOT. But the classes are excellent and I feel like I learn every day, so I feel I am getting my debt's worth for it.

    Food and Dining

I live with my parents nearby, so I don't use the meal plan or cafeteria, but the food in the cafeteria seems to be better than the nearby school Hardin-Simmons. ACU also has a food court, which is helpful when I can't bring my own food (I'm frugal), and I understand the restaurants are on the meal plan.

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived in the dorms, but I've looked into the on-campus apartments and they are very nice and laundry is free!

    Academic Rigor

I find myself getting pretty busy at times, but the classes are great. The professors like to challenge their students to think beyond the facts and love to hear their students different opinions on subjects. It can be a lot of work but you learn a lot and really learn to love it.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're just looking for somewhere to go in Abilene like I was, don't feel intimidated by the religious affiliation if you're not particularly religious. It's a great place.
