When looking at colleges look at everything the school has to offer. Don't just look at the food and dorm room size, you want to make sure you like the campus life, and also that the college is for you and not your parents or a friend that you want to be with.

Get involved! Do not shut yourself in your room. The best time to make friends is during the week-long orientation before classes start. Everyone wants to make friends too so don't be afraid to reach out to people and get to know them. Also be sure to double and triple check that you have what you need before you move in, but this doesn't mean bring a bunch of unnecessary items your room will fill up quickly.

Get involved in a ton of different activities such as: greek life, sports, religious organizations, club sports, dance, theatre, etc. After joining, you don't have to continue to do all those things, but you will have met a ton of different people that could be your friends for life. Also, stay in touch with your professors! These are some of the smartest people I have met in my life and they will be excellent sources for contacts and letters of recommendation after you graduate.
