Great for these types of students

This school is really great for any type of person especially for anyone that likes to have extracurriculum classes and volunteer. You'll love it here once you get here and see how live is here.

    Tips for prospective students

Be on time because if you don't then some professors may lock the door on you and some may take points off a test, report, or essay. If you want to drive to school, then make sure you always go the speed limit. Have all work turned in the day it's due or you'll lose some points. Check the calendar-always for days No school or other events.(Don't be like me)

    Bang for the buck

The tuition at the low, if anyone wants to find out how it costs, then go to the college website: www.asun.edu to find out how much it costs and you'll be amazed. They also have Distance Learning classes at a small fee as well. You'll need at least the FAFSA done and 2 or 3 scholarships for a whole year.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying being here because the tuition is low, you get to work on additional projects for the college, treated more like an adult, and you don't have to get permission to leave the room-EVER.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning many things like Theatre, Reading, Writing, and Math but I later I am going to learn about Philosophy, Computers, Physical Fitness, and Oral Comminications. Anyone can learn a lot here. The teachers are really cool and easy going-especially for freshman.

Great for these types of students

high school graduates looking for a cheaper alternative to state college.

    Bang for the buck

the price here runs a little higher than an average community college because it is technically a state run institution but, is still cheaper than asu-jonesboro.

    What to do for fun

    read, play outside, talk.

    Academic Rigor

the education is not very difficult at all but, i have to expect such from this size of school. it is very simply put, a community college and thus it will hold according academic intensity.

    Tips for prospective students

always talk to the teacher before devoting to their class because, every teacher instructs differently and in varying intensities. don't get angry just because they make a mistake. they are human.

    In three sentences

it seems to me that asu-newport is a small community college that hasn't completely come into it's own yet. it is very nice and the staff and teachers are all very nice and direct but, they are more prone to making simple mistakes. they however are more than happy to help correct the mistakes.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are great! Real hard workers who honestly do their job. They go out of their way to help everyone and are so friendly!

    Bang for the buck

College is defiantly expensive but ASU Newport is fairly reasonable, and is in my eyes worth every penny!

We have a great gym and library! There is always friendly people to talk to and have a great counselor who gets events together.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is to die for!!! Talk about tasty!

    Dorm Life

    No dorms on this campus.

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be a slight challenge until you get the hang of them and understand what is being asked but other than that, just ask questions and whoever it may be will help you and explain whatever you need to figure it out!

    Tips for prospective students

Be nice to everyone and everyone will go out of their way to help you out and to get you where you need to go. I would highly recommend this school to anyone and everyone! And, if you have any type of special needs they are more than willing to help and make you comfortable.

    In three sentences

Absolutely amazing, a college for all! Perfect for someone starting college either just out of school or for someone who has been out for quite some time. And everyone is so nice and helpful!!!!

    Campus Safety

The campus is small so you shouldnt have a problem but we do have campus police that are right across the street from the college. The only thing that you need to look out is how to park they are strict on that you can park in backwards cause if you park going straight in then that way you can look behind you to see what is coming and thats what they are wanting.

    Greek Life

Well they dont have many sororities here like other colleges. So on that part you really dont have that many choices.

    Clubs and Activities

We have SVO that means Student Veterans Organization. SGA which means Student Goverment Organization in this you will run for electives and be over everything that goes on at the school. Minority Organization they support and meet the varying needs of ASUN.

Great for these types of students

Everything here is great its just that the dorm life you cant live, but everything else here is for any type of student that does not have everything they need, money wise and so on.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

traditions for halloween have fall carnival and they have a talent show you have to dress up in a costume, we do hay rides, and volunteer to do the haunted house. We have depot days where you can volunteer for that to help out and etc.

    Bang for the buck

The money wise is very cheap cheaper than other colleges, and i know because there have been students that were goingt to a big college or wanted to go to a big college and they came here because it is cheaper than other colleges.

    What to do for fun

We have campus events here like this month for October for breast cancer we have had tournaments and where going to get t-shirts in what ever thing you particiapted in. Also our cancelor brings food for us to eat and we all talk and play games. We also have fall blast and carnival. We have flag football, softball and little tournaments in basketball.

    Food and Dining

The college is small so the food and dining isnt like the other collges in the city, we dont have like pizza hut or any fast food resturants inside the college but we do have people that will cook a meal for you its like your at home, you do have different choices on what you want it's not a lot but the students that go here do not complain also its not that high either like at the colleges in the cities.

    Dorm Life

Well like i said it is a small college so the college doesnt have dorms, so thats one thing that you cant experience the college life here its a drive back and forth thing but the college is worth it.

    Academic Rigor

the academics here is like the same at any other college they have nursing, criminal justice and etc. This college is like all the rest of the colleges it's just small.

    Tips for prospective students

for the students that will be coming up and graduating, if your not ready for a big school and you want all the help that you can get Arkansas State University of Newport is best for you. It is cheap and small. You can meet everyone here that you already didnt know. You can get all the help that you want from students and teachers and the teachers actually pay attention to you here.

    In three sentences

Arkansas State University is an good school, it is small so that way you can get all the help you want. The teachers here are awesome and funny and they will do all they can to help you.

    What to do for fun

Marked Tree is not a big town, but you do have 2 major cities close.

    Food and Dining

Not a big dining area, but there is a place to sit if you bring your lunch/

    Dorm Life

    No dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Hear nothing but good things about the students that have graduated.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you are on top of advising, financial aid, and student services. You will get overwhelmed if you wait until the last minute. Be the rising star.

    In three sentences

I would rate ASU- Newport a 4. The student-teacher ratio is amazing and it is a very well known school. I would encourage anyone wanting to go back for the programs offered to take the chance.
