Great for these types of students

If you want to be an Art Teacher, this is the RIGHT place for you, one-hundred percent. They have the choice for you to either minor in it and do some art work or you can major in an art work and on your 5th year, major in education. That gives you the opportunity to get your BFA in an art and either be done with it or keep going for your Education Masters. They are just so fantastic.

    Bang for the buck

The financial aid is helpful, but I feel like it is a lot of money annually.

    Will enjoy being here

They have diversity. Everyone loves what they do and kids are super friendly.

    Will learn a lot

I haven't attended this school yet but I cannot wait to apply. It is everything I want. The classes are small and you will get individual attention, plus you get to know your classmates more and see their artwork. I just know once you graduate, you will definitely find a job right away. There are so many opportunities and they help you so much in your future. This school is known by everyone and jobs will want you to work for them. They know the kids that attend this school are extremely talented.

    Campus Safety

Very safe campus, regulated by access cards and security guards 24/7.

    Bang for the buck

Although your wallet may become significantly lighter, your skills will be incredibly crafted. The degree programs are bulletproof and guarantee you success in the field you choose.

    Food and Dining

Although the meal plan is pricey, the food is good quality and the there are vending machines for snacking all over campus.

    Dorm Life

There are many different building each designed to suit you college life. Every student fills out a housing application which includes like and a dislikes used to pair you with the perfect roommate. They do a great job at rooming you with someone great.

    Academic Rigor

I have yet to attend any classes but from what i've been told the academic pressure is substantial. Work is no joke and project tardiness is not tolerated.

    Tips for prospective students

Get as much financial support as possible. Tuition cost is steep and the room and board is even steeper but if you can manage to get good funding you'll do fine.

    In three sentences

Great atmosphere and campus! The school is beautiful and the faculty are very intimate and friendly. An amazing place for any aspiring artist.

    Campus Safety

Entrances can only be opened with IDs and security guards are extremely stiff about letting in students without IDs.

    Greek Life

The school holds no fraternities nor sororities.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students that aren't very competition and are excessively liberal.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One time a year, Lesley students will paint themselves from head to toe and run across Harvard campus. In my opinion, that seems like a waste of paint.

    What to do for fun

The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University has a great location in Kenmore due to the fact it's several blocks away from Blick's Art Supply Store and, slightly further away, the wonderfully scenic Boston Commons! The Commons is a great place to picnic, relax, and, in our case, sketch and illustrate. As a sister school of Lesley, students have to attend the Cambridge which isn't far from Harvard Square. There are many places to dine, like Bertucci's, and for the curious minds, there are several books stores.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria always has great fruit and vegetables which, as a vegetarian really appeals to me.

    Dorm Life

Personally, I don't live in a dorm. But on a visit, the rooms are very spacious and the beds are comfortable as well. Students that dorm seem closer knit than students that commute.

    Academic Rigor

Each and every class has opened my eyes to a different perspective. Foundations Seminar has taught me to question everything in print especially if it's claimed to be fact. Drawing Intensive has taught me that my eyes plays tricks on me when I'm drawing from observation; as a result, I must think of what I'm looking at rather than assuming placements. The list just goes on; my professors have successful made me more thoughtful.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're going to apply to this school, you must APPLY yourself in every sense of the word. Every free moment is a good opportunity to get some extra work done however it is important to hold a social life as well. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. There are many clubs that range from animation to sports to social justice, and the list goes on.

    In three sentences

The professors are absolutely crème de la crème. Each professor has had their own experiences in the field of art; one of my professors in particular worked on the Lilo & Stitch T.V. series, which I found to be very exciting! They have all given me some sense of refining my own work as an art and have pushed me to be more curious of a scholar.

    Campus Safety

I feel pretty safe on my campus. It is however, in the city, so occasionally we get emails from Public Safety warning us that someone in the area was mugged (not usually a student) so you have to be aware. That aside, Public Safety offers to drive/walk you between campuses at night if you feel unsafe, which is something that I think is great.

    Greek Life

We do not have Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 40 clubs and organizations, there really is something for everybody. Also, it is really easy to start a club. There is an activities fair once per semester where you can get an idea of what clubs we have on campus.

    Bang for the buck

AIB is a fairly expensive school, however I've thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far and look forward to the next two years. While I will be paying off loans in the future, I think that it is definitely worth it. Especially since the percentage of students who get jobs soon after graduating is very high.

    What to do for fun

Go to Harvard Square! We spend a lot of time there. It's a college town, so many of the restaurants in the area are open very late. For example, Felipe's this awesome Mexican restaurant in Harvard Square is open until 2:00AM most nights. There is also IHOP which is open 25/7. Additionally, we're right be the Harvard T stop so you have access to the T and can go anywhere really. You could take the T to Davis Square and go to a show at The Middle East. You could go to Kendall and go to The Garment District. There are a lot of options. Also, our Campus Activities Board is always have some event, which are usually pretty fun. We also get free or discounted admission to most Museums in the area.

    Food and Dining

There are 5 different dining locations on campus. The main campus or Doble has Charlie's and White Hall. Charlie's is a late night type cafe, they can make you burgers, fries, etc. White Hall is a full service, all you can eat dining hall. Brattle Campus has Washburn Hall, which, like White is full service and all you can eat. At our Porter campus (where many Lesley classes are held) there is a cafe. At AIB there is also a cafe which has sandwiches, soups, etc. Sometimes the food is great, sometimes it isn't, but it really all depends on your personal preferences. There is always a vegetarian option, and often there are gluten free options as well.

    Dorm Life

We share dorms with Lesley College students, and because of this I think we have a better connection to them. Some students may not be thrilled about the two schools being affiliated with eachother, but the fact that we live together, eat together, and take classes together shows you how there is no need for a divide. There are lots of different options for on campus housing, and there are dining facilities at each campus.

    Academic Rigor

You will get out of college what you put into it. If you don't care about your work and are just doing it to get it done, it will show. If you are truly passionate about what you are doing you will get valuable feedback. There is a liberal arts component of your education that you get through Lesley College. I've enjoyed my classes at Lesley and I've learned a lot from them.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to write artist statements. This goes for all art students, but make sure to pursue art education outside of school. AIB provides plenty of opportunities for students to get involved, including many artist's talks and exhibitions. Additionally, we get free admission the ICA and MFA, so take advantage of that.

    In three sentences

The best thing about AIB is the small class sizes, which result in individualized attention from teachers. I have learned so much and I have so much respect for all of my teachers. Since they are working artists, they are both incredibly knowledgeable and good connections to have.

    The Quadfest

    What to do for fun

    Explore the city of Boston

    Food and Dining

The food is extraordinary, like mothers home cooking.

    Tips for prospective students

Always keep your mind busy and your sketch book out.

    In three sentences

The Art Institute of Boston is a wonderful college to expand your skills in the arts. As an international student I struggled in the beginning adjusting to a new college, however the faculty and students made me feel at home. I now have insight as to what my strengths and weaknesses are.

Their small campus is great for anyone looking to have less traveling, and their class sizes are great!
