Great for these types of students

Great for students who are ready to be on their own away from home. Felt like the real deal being at Ashland.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply and go see campus. Try the food! Its great.

    Bang for the buck

    Expensive...

    Am enjoying being here

This place was great. I loved playing varsity althletics, going to FCA, and just hanging out with friends. So much to do and so little time there.

    Am learning a lot

Not the best learning environment for me but I did learn a lot.

Great for these types of students

Ashland is great for students looking for a school that is not too big and not too small. It is also very popular for the Education and Business programs. It's also great for any one who likes really good food all the time!

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid of the price! Visit the campus it's beautiful! If you have any questions don't be afraid to contact someone they will be more thn willing to help you. Ashland has been awesome with keeping us updated on what we need for the future!

    Bang for the buck

The overall tuition of almost $35,000 may be overwhelming but because this is a private school we can help pay for a lot of that. A large majority of the students receive a presidential scholarship based on their high school GPA and ACT scores. Also the financial aid office works very well with you personally to help you with any special requests or circumstances.

    Am enjoying being here

More than half of the students here are involved in campus activities including sports, intramurals, religious life, sororities, fraternities, and community service. It is very easy to get involved in something especially because there are wide variety of activities. They told us at orientation that the students involved in campus life were more likely to stay at Ashland so this encouraged man students to find something they were interested in. If you don't want to get involved there are always things going on on campus. We've had a variety of performers visit our school like illusionists, bands, comedians and many guest speakers including Bill Cosby! Also, we are nationally ranked for our dining services!

    Am learning a lot

This school is great for education and business majors! There are more than 70 undergraduate programs here at Ashland but the majority of the students come here for business or education. They are great at getting you experience in the field you desire your freshman year. With the student to faculty ratio being 15:1 it allows your professors to really get to know you allowing it easier for the student to get help if needed.

Great for these types of students

Ashland University is a great college for students who enjoy being on a smaller campus, and enjoy working closely with their professors. The professors are more than willing to help their students. AU is also a wonderful college for students who like to get involved on campus. There are a lot of different clubs and organizations available. For example, I'm part of a sorority, PAW (Peers for Animal Welfare), and Sport Communication Club. And I can honestly say that if you are looking for a journalism/broadcast major, you can get involved with the newspaper/radio/TV your first semester (I know this because I am a Sport Communication major)! All of which will look good on resumes later in life! =] Good luck, students! I hope you find the college you are looking for.

    Tips for prospective students

I almost didn't go to Ashland because of the price, but I did receive a scholarship. My GPA is fairly high, but my ACT score is a little bit lower. It all evens out, and if you work hard in school, you will probably receive a scholarship! If you aren't sure whether or not you would really like it here, please visit the campus, and take a tour. It would also be a good idea to meet with professors/advisors within the major(s) you are thinking about.

    Bang for the buck

Well, it is very expensive. This is because it is a private school; however, there are many scholarships available based on students' GPA and ACT scores. I must say, it has been worth my money so far. The professors that I have had so far have been knowledgeable of their subjects and even personable. I walked in one day to my class with a Starbuck's cup, and my teacher asked, Did you have a late night? I normally don't see you drinking coffee. And this true. I don't normally drink coffee! The point of that story is that everyone is great, and caring. (It also doesn't hurt that you can find a job on or off campus to help pay for your tuition or have that money so your parents don't have to worry about giving you money)!

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. Most of the buildings look very nice, and are in good condition. Flowers can be seen throughout the campus. Also, I was lucky enough to be put in a dorm building that had been renovated recently. It is almost like living in a hotel room. Granted, the rooms are kind of small, but it fits my and my roommate's needs. Everyone is friendly, and it's just a great environment to be a part of. I live within thirty minutes of the campus, but I believe I made the right decision to live on campus because I love being close to my friends, and I know what's going on around the campus.

    Am learning a lot

I just finished my first semester at Ashland University, and so far I have learned quite a bit. I had my advisor as my professor for two of my classes, and her classes were fantastic. Furthermore, it's very easy to talk to my advisor, and any of my professors for that matter. However, I did have one class that was very simple, and mostly opinion. While the teacher was easy to talk to, I kind of got tired of writing/talking about my own opinion, and not actually learning about the subject at hand.

If you are looking for a small university that focuses on the individual, then Ashland University is the place for you. If you are looking for a liberal arts college with great programs for business, education, or political science, then the College of Business & Economics, College of Education, or Ashbrook Program would probably be an interest of yours.

    Tips for prospective students

The two big tips for students at any college is to just give yourself a week or two to settle in and do not go home on the weekends a lot. By going home, you will miss out on what happens on campus, and you wont have as many friends on campus.

    Bang for the buck

It is a private university so it is expensive, but with scholarships it is more affordable. I feel like the quality of the education, food, and housing are well worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

I have several friends in my dorm. It is a small town so if you are from a big city you might feel like there is nothing to do. The people there are very nice and welcoming. After the initial shock of college life, I loved it there.

    Am learning a lot

The professors there are very knowledgeable of their areas of study. They also work very hard to make sure you understand the material.

Great for these types of students

AU has a great Education program, we're really well known for it. I'm partial to our Psych program myself - we have some fantastic teachers. If you want to be active and get leadership roles early in your college career, AU is great for that, too. If you want personal attention, and a school that is small but not too small, I highly recommend Ashland!

    Tips for prospective students

First of all, you really should come and visit. We have a beautiful campus, and it's the best way to see if it's a good fit. You get to hear a lot of information first hand, from a student who knows what they're talking about! I suggest a group visit, at least for the first time. It was durign my group visit that I felt I got the best information, and that was when I felt fell in love with this school. Once you're here, get involved! If a club or group sounds interesting, go for it. That is where you'll meet your friends and have a lot of fun. Work hard in classes, and speak up in class - make an effort to get to know your professors, and have them know you! Professors can give you a lot of opportunities when you get to know them.

    Bang for the buck

When you look at the price tag, which is now over $36,000, it can be very intimidating. But Ashland does a good job of giving finincial aid and scholarships. If you go to their website and find the scholarship calculator, you can see how much your initial, academic scholarship will be when you plug in your grades and test scores. You'll get your financial aid letter in the spring, which is where you see exactly how much they will give you. I never thought that I would be able to afford to come here, but out of the 6 private schools in Ohio that I applied to, they gave the best financial aid package! So if money is a concern, I definitely encourage you to at least apply and see how your package comes back. Personally, I fell in love with this school, and I think it's worth the expense. I know I'll be going in debt to go here, but I think it's worth that.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love it here at AU. Within the first few weeks, it started to really feel like home. I just could not get over how nice everyone was! Almost everyone you walk past smiles at you, or says hi. It's a very friendly atmosphere, in which I felt comfortable right away! There are tons of activities to do, and lots of clubs and organizations to become involved in. I, for example, am in the Honors Program, Women's Chorus, Newman Catholic Ministry, and Psychology Club. I also played intramural bowling and volleyball. Like I said, there are tons of things to do - just look for anything your interested in, and try it out! :) Another thing I should mention - the food is fantastic! We have gotten award for our food for quite a few years now, and it is great. Plus, we have an awesome Rec Center! It has a huge pool, a running track, tons of exercise machines, and a weight room. Out of the 6 schools I looked at, all private and in Ohio, this one had one of the best Rec Centers!

    Am learning a lot

This is my second semester here at AU, and so far I have had some really great professors! Last semester I had 6 classes, and 5 of my professors had their doctorate degrees. It was hard to pick a favorite between them, they were so good at it! The teachers are all very accessible, and there are always places to go and get help. They have office hours, reply well to emails, and make time for you. Also, I really enjoy the small class sizes. My biggest class so far had about 28 students in it! So teachers definitely learn your name, and want to help you do your best. When I visited first, I felt like Ashland would be a fun place to go - but they are also a very strong school academically! Which is definitely the most important part.

Great for these types of students

-People who want to have personalized help -Anyone interested in Education -Anyone who plays sports well (the scholarships are rather large for athletes here)

    Tips for prospective students

FILL OUT AS MANY SCHOLARSHIPS AS POSSIBLE! Do not fail Accent on Success. It is embarrassing to re-take it as an upperclassman. Get involved with Greek Life. Trust me, it is safe.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is a lot here, and I feel like I have to choke scholarships out of the financial aid office, but the campus is beautiful and I can see where the money is going.

    Am enjoying being here

Its hard right now for me because I don't drive, so I don't get to go home often. The small town atmosphere is nice and quiet, yet I always have something to do.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are just right. I don't feel ignored by my professors and they really let their personalities show.

Great for these types of students

This would be a wonderful place for the following types of students: *Students who want a small, more personal learning environment *Students who want a friendly atmosphere *Students who would like to join a club, volunteer group, religious community, or a sports team - there are lots to choose from! *Students who would like the opportunity to study abroad *Students who are willing to work hard and really strive to reach their goals - again, the courses are very challenging and not for someone who wants to just barely get by in school. *And lots more! Ashland University is just bustling with happy students and filled with plenty of on-campus student activities! (Recently started was a new campus-wide Zombie game that may end up being a recurring event since it was so popular. Want more info? Join Ashland University!)

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus, meet with a few advisers or professors and I guarantee that just about everyone would find it a perfectly suitable place to live and learn. With a small campus, the classes are definitely much smaller, allowing for more one-on-one learning.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private college, it is a little more expensive than your average community college, but that is to be expected with the quality of the courses, materials for labs, and excellent professors, so I find that it is definitely worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love campus life. The students are friendly, the advisors are helpful, and the professors are very willing to give their best efforts to help the students succeed and thrive. There is not much crime that I have seen and the whole campus is like one giant anthill where everyone gets along, does their own thing, and are great cohabitants.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning quite a lot here at AU, but it is a very challenging environment and forces me to do my very best.

Great for these types of students

Ashland is great for all types of students. Those who know exactly what they want to major in and even those who don't. There is something for everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit campus! Visiting AU is a great way to get a feel for the campus. My advice would be to go during the week because you receive a personal visit. It is just you and your family and you visit with an admissions counselor in their office and that is when you can ask any question you want about anything. Then, you get a personal tour of campus and you get to see any part of campus you wish! It's really the best way to visit. Plus, if you visit on a weekend, you don't get to experience campus in motion. Most likely during a weekday visit, you will see people walking to and from class. You're not part of a big group and you get to experience Ashland on a more personal level.

    Bang for the buck

While Ashland is pretty expensive, the level of experience you get in your field and the quality of the education you will receive make it all worth it. Plus, they do a great job at helping you pay for your tuition as almost everyone receives money for their high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many fun, exciting ways to get involved on campus at Ashland. From varsity sports, to club sports to intramurals, there is a level of competition for everyone who wants to play sports. There many clubs and organizations on campus making it easy to find a group of people with the same interests as you. Campus is not too big or too small, the food is AMAZING with so many choices every day and we have a great rec center with weight machines, free weights, treadmills and other cardio equipment, basketball courts, indoor soccer, an indoor track, a simulated golf room, pool, ping pong and a huge swimming pool.

    Am learning a lot

Ashland is a fantastic school for business and education majors. For education majors, they get you out into the field during your freshmen year and by your sophomore year, you are working with students in a teaching role. For business majors, there is an actual stock exchange room that students participate in. Ashland University also takes pride in its small class sizes. Most classes are capped at 25 so you can get personalized attention from professors and get to know your classmates well. The learning environment at AU is great for getting students ready for the real world.

Great for these types of students

Ashland University is a small school so students who do not like big schools would love Ashland. Students who love sports would love Ashland because we are a very big sports school.

    Tips for prospective students

Ashland University is a great school for anyone. They have a very good education program as well as an exercise science program, and also a great criminal justice program.

    Bang for the buck

Ashland definitely is a pocket full of money, but it is definitely work it. Each student gets the one on one time that they need from teachers and its very effective toward individual grades.

    Am enjoying being here

The one thing I love about Ashland are the people. Everyone is so nice to each other including staff, coaches, and students. There are many activities to do during the week as well as on the weekends. There's always something to do.

    Am learning a lot

My major is exercise science. All of the teachers and professors in my major are very educated and really teach the students a lot about the field of study. They are extremely useful with after hour tutoring and also during classroom times as well.

Great for these types of students

Students who went to small high schools and still want the feel of smaller class sizes. Education is a very popular major at Ashland and business is also popular, anyone interested in either of those fields should check Ashland out.

    Tips for prospective students

Ashland is a great school and has a great feeling to it. Other than the campus looking nice, Ashland really does have a lot to offer. It is a small school which is a positive attribute. All of my teachers know my name, most contact students regularly and offer extended office hours if help is needed, President Finks is also very humble and offers students help in whatever he can assist in.

    Bang for the buck

Depending on the person that you ask will depend on if they feel they are getting their money worth attending this school. I am and education major, I also will receive a 4th and 5th grade endorsement and a license in Intervention Specialist. I think for the amount I pay, and the experience I am getting in the classroom it is well worth paying for. Not every school allows you to get in class experience as a Freshman and I had the opportunity to experience that. I think it is a wonderful idea and let me know that teaching is exactly what I want to be doing.

    Am enjoying being here

Ashland at times, can be a bit boring. Incoming students need to know that getting involved is the best answer possible, not only for Ashland but for any school. Whether it be with intramural sports, certain clubs that they are interested in, or even just attending sporting events, it makes the transition to college easier and it will make you want to stay on campus and be more involved with the student body.

    Am learning a lot

I feel that after I graduate from Ashland I will be overly prepared to enter into the real world and get a job. Many of the classes I take greatly prepare me to be the best teacher I can be when I graduate. I think that the curriculum is great and Ashland starts you out having core curriculum classes along with classes that go toward your major. The mix is great and prepares you early for your intended career.

Great for these types of students

    1. People who are looking for a small campus or small community feel. Ashland is small enough that you don't get overwhelmed, and you meet a lot of people. However, it is big enough that you don't know every single person, which makes it less boring. 2. Education majors. Ashland is known throughout the Midwest for its education program. However, all its other program are phenomenal (I am minoring in Spanish and History, and I love both of these departments equally well). 3. People who don't want to be restricted to just learning stuff in their major. AU is a liberal arts school, which means you are required to take a certain number of classes in different areas to graduate. This allows you to have a more well-rounded college education. 4. People who don't want to be a number to their professors. Ashland has very small class sizes with professors who really care. They will get to know you as a student and a person, rather than a number.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. VISIT CAMPUS! For some people, that may not be possible since you are so far away. In that situation, there are plenty of quality pictures on the website. But, you really need to see the campus to get a sense of what AU is all about. It's so pretty and the tour guides and admissions reps will answer all your questions. 2. Don't worry about asking a bunch of questions. Ashland loves their students, and they will answer all the questions you have. If they don't know, they will find out for you. 3. Take the roommate personality survey seriously. Before you move in, you will be asked to take a survey so they can pair you up with a roommate that you will actually get along with. Take this seriously because they are really great about pairing you up with good people. The person I was paired up with freshman year is one of my best friends and we still live together (we're sophomores now). 4. Get involved on campus! Whether you join one thing or five, you will have so much more fun during your time here if you get involved.

    Bang for the buck

People tend to be scared away by the large price tag that comes with AU. But, once you look into the financial aid you can understand the great deals we have for students. I am a student worker for the admissions office so I have learned a lot about what's available. We have about 98% of our student population that are receiving financial aid. If you apply for the FAFSA, you can get a lot of aid. There are academic scholarships and athletic scholarships as well as need-based scholarships and grants. You can also apply for Federal Work Study. Don't worry if you're not eligible because there are Regular Student Employment jobs available too. I have one of each :). Overall, if you are willing to put in the effort to apply for aid ahead of time, you should have no problem paying each semester.

    Am enjoying being here

Ashland is a great school because it has something for everybody. They have religious life (however, if religion does not interest you it is no way forced upon you; it's just there if you're interested), intramural sports, clubs, honorary societies, campus social events, Greek Life, and more! Ashland is a pretty small town, but there's always something going on on campus. Our campus activities board (CAB) plans different social events for students throughout the year (comedians, musicians, illusionists, free CURRENT movies, etc.), there are free bowling nights at the local bowling lane, and there are many local restaurants available for good, cheap meals (which is especially good for us poor college students!).

    Am learning a lot

I am studying Early Childhood Education with minors in Spanish and History. I love the fact that Ashland University is a liberal arts college because I get to take so many classes that wouldn't apply to my major, but are very interesting. AU is primarily a teaching university, NOT a research school. They hire professors to TEACH. There are no TAs, and the adjuncts are still very knowledgeable. The classes are very small (the largest class I've been in had around 20 students) so the professors get to know you personally and are always there to help. As for the education program, the professors are AMAZING! They are so knowledgeable and helpful. I love that you get to teach in the field very early to apply the teaching concepts you are learning in class.

Pretty expensive, but they do a great job with the amazing staff and supportive environment, despite the cost I will always recommend this school if asked to do so! The small class sizes are amazingly effective, I can get help at any time that I need it.

    Campus Safety

Ashford puts alert messages out via email telling students what is occurring on campus and what to do in case of an emergency. They even have disaster forms for students to fill out.

    Clubs and Activities

Ashford University offers a traveling program that allows students to get a progressive approach to learning. The school also has a volunteer program where students give back to their community. These programs are great.

    Academic Rigor

Make sure to ask questions if you do not understand something when it comes to your grades because it's your money that's going towards your education.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on top of your education and remember to take your school work serious. Utilize the skills your professor's give you because you will need to be efficient when you get in to your career position.

    In three sentences

This school provides a great educational opportunity for those who want a good education but have other obligations.

    Campus Safety

They give parking tickets like crazy!! Be sure you know where to park your car (yes you can have one on campus as a freshman).

    Greek Life

Sororities: Delta Zeta, Alpha Phi, Alpha Delta Pi, Phi Mu Fraternities: TKEs It's not overwhelming or anything if you don't want to be bothered by them.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots. You can even create your own if you have 5 people interested!

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are dedicated to their academics and want to learn! Great for both the partying and non-partying type.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Eagle statues are all over campus.

    Bang for the buck

I'm definitely satisfied with what I'm getting. It pays to have the professor feedback, the personal attention, and the undergraduate research experience.

    What to do for fun

Get involved in activities on campus. The Rec Center always has something fun you can do: pool, hot tub, golf simulator, pool tables, ping pong tables, video game consoles and games (Wii, Xbox, latest consoles), basketball, volleyball, soccer courts, rock climbing wall, bikes you can use, fitness center, weight lifting room, aerobics/exercise courses and more. Campus Activities Board (CAB) sponsors free bowling, bingo, and board-game nights. Tech Crew sponsors free movie nights once a month.

    Food and Dining

Four dining options are currently available: Convo, Eagles' Nest, Tuffy's, Schar Cafe. Hours vary between all three to accommodate student schedules. Countless options are available at each meal. Convo is traditional dining with all-you-can-eat privileges for each meal swipe. Meal plans vary by # of swipes you purchase. Great options for gluten-free, vegetarian, and allergy-free diets.

    Dorm Life

Multiple options for living exist including typical bunk-bed style dorm room (singles, doubles, triples), suites (two doubles and a middle room), upper-classmen apartments on/off-campus ( 2- & 4- person apartments; 24 hr visitation and alcohol permitted if all are >21), commuter status, and several opportunities to rent or buy a house/apartment off-campus. Dorms are secure and nice to live in. Opposite gender must not be in the building from 2am-8am. Opposite-gendered guests must be escorted by student from 11pm-2am. No alcohol is permitted anywhere except in upperclassmen apartments, and only when all present are of age. Also, the option to become a Residence Assistant (RA) provides opportunity to have room/board paid in full plus an additional stipend.

    Academic Rigor

It's not an Ivy League school or anything, but it is definitely challenging. I got a 28 on the ACT and I'm earning a 3.7 GPA from the college. However, all classes are taught by professors. There aren't any teacher's aides in charge of classes. It is a liberal arts college so they require you to complete a set of core courses in addition to your major program. This includes one intro-to-college course, two English courses, one Math course, two science courses, one Communications course, one Religion (study of religion, not indoctrination) course, one Lifetime Wellness course, two Humanities courses, two Creative Arts courses, two Social Sciences courses, and one Historical Reasoning course. Sometimes one course can count for two areas of the core. CLEP, AP, and other types of credits apply so take the CLEP test before college and save some money!

    Tips for prospective students

Negotiate your financial aid package. If you are thinking of not going here because it's too expensive, tell your financial aid advisers and they might give you more money. Also, choose your school by the academic program, not by money, not by sports.

    In three sentences

Ashland University is a private, Christian, Liberal Arts college that has excellent undergraduate programs; it's a 10 minute walk across campus. Professors actually care about you and notice when you don't come to class. It's not an extremely small school where you know everyone in your class by the time you're done, but advanced courses (junior-senior level) usually only have 1-2 sections.

    Campus Safety

Since Ashland is a small town I feel really safe on campus. I can walk around at like 3 in the morning and not feel the least bit unsafe. And during freshmen orientation you will be provided Safety Services number. They are open 24/7, so if there is ever anything that you would need them for, you can call them. They will even escort you back to your dorm if you don't feel safe doing it.

    Greek Life

At the moment I'm not in Greek life. However, most of my friends are, and I know that they love being in their fraternity or sorority. As a non-Greek all the activities that are planned are still a major part of what I do around campus. You don't have to be Greek to enjoy all that they have to offer campus. Though if you would like all the great leadership experience and sisterhood/brotherhood that comes from it, then I would recommend joining whenever you feel it appropriate. If you don't join when you're a freshmen you aren't going to be too late, trust me.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities to do on campus. The only way that you really be bored is if you wouldn't take advantage of them. There are all types of intramural sports and club sports. There are pretty much clubs or organizations for anything that you would want from Anime Club to the AU Habitat for Humanity

Great for these types of students

Ashland is great for students that like small classes and a lot of attention from professors. AU has a very friendly feel to it. AU's program for education is also fantastic. Unlike some universities, as an education major you are in the classroom starting your freshman year. Though the freshmen field experience is only a shadow or each academic level (elementary, middle, and high school), but the experience is very helpful and the involvement in the classroom grows as the year move on. Also if you are looking into political science or history, the Ashbrook program is a great program for you. It's definitely someone worth looking into. If you're into athletics AU has a great athletic program with great facilities for athletes or just athletic people in general.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The president of the university is very friendly and cares a lot about the students of AU. He participates in on campus activities and even the AU meme page on Facebook. He even gives the freshmen his phone number during his welcoming! I don't know another university that has a president that is as awesome as that!

    Bang for the buck

Ashland is an expensive private university, however, they are very willing to help you with paying for college. If you let them know that you are not sure if you will be able to pay for college there, they will work with you to see what they can do about it.

    What to do for fun

The Campus Activities Board or CAB holds a lot of events for students. Greek life, along with other organizations and clubs also puts on a lot of things for students to go to. The rec center has intramural sports and club sports to play.

    Food and Dining

The food at AU is great. Most of the time no matter what you are in the mood for, you can find on campus. You have a lot of options of where to eat too. You can eat in the Lower Convocation Center or Convo, which is more of a cafeteria. There is also the Eagles Nest that is more of a grab and go spot. There is Tuffy's Smoothie Bar with is located in the Rec Center where you can get smoothies as well as other drinks and food. There is also the Schar Cafe located in the Dwight Schar College of Education; it's a smaller version of the Eagles nest without the grill. Each of these places is a great place to eat.

    Dorm Life

Once I got into all my activities I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked in my dorm. But the time that I did spend in there I enjoyed. The people on my floor were nice and so was my RA.

    Academic Rigor

Like any other college, these classes are difficult if you don't do your work or show up to class. You have to take your academics seriously or you will regret it.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Not only is it a resume builder, but it will keep you active and get you more friends than you would have if you would have just sat in your dorm room and waited for friends to appear. Also, everyone that will tell you that you will meet people that you will have life long connections with are totally right. You'll meet people that you would have though you've known since you were born. That's how well you'll connect with some of the people you meet! But you can't connect with people if you don't take advantage of the ways to make new friends!

    In three sentences

AU will becomes a home away from home, and as an out-of-state student it was really important for me to have the feeling of home so that I didn't get home sick much. AU did a great job of making me feel welcomed and wanted. Everyone is so friendly and very helpful no matter your problem.

Great for these types of students

Students who don't go out to bars and/or drink. If you're 21+, you can still get written up for an alcohol violation in the dorms, which you're required to live in for 3-4 years.

    Bang for the buck

Awful. Can't really say anything else. I received $14,000 in academic scholarship and $13,000 in athletic scholarship. Still graduated with $33,000 in student loans.

    What to do for fun

Its in the middle of amish country. What do you THINK there is to do for fun??

    Food and Dining

Although they have award winning student dining services, they repeat the same menu every 2-3 weeks. By your 2nd-3rd year, you get way too sick of it. I ate cereal 60% of the time as a junior/senior.

    Dorm Life

AWFUL!!!!!! You must live on campus for FOUR YEARS, with an option to live in a senior apartment your final year. Unless you and your three roommates all have above a 3.5 GPA and have never been written up for student life violations, you don't stand a shot of getting an apartment. The dorms are horrendous.

    Academic Rigor

Professors really care about your education, so they are willing to help whenever you need it!

    Tips for prospective students

Although its a great school academically and athletically, the social aspect is horrendous--youre required to live on campus (dorms) for four years! For the price, it is not all that desirable. You can find a state school with reasonable tuition and receive just as good of an education.

    In three sentences

Ashland is a great learning community with tons of passionate professors. Although they recently lowered tuition by $10,000, scholarship amounts were cut drastically as well. I was on athletic and academic scholarship for four years and still graduated with tons of debt.

Great for these types of students

Conservative, Middle to Upper Income Families, Students looking for smaller class sizes, Religious students, Education, Business, and students from private schools

    Tips for prospective students

Really consider all that Ashland has to offer. The price may be a little scary, but if you truly feel comfortable with this school then you will find a way to make it work. My advice to you would be to really explore your options as to what you are looking for in a college. Treat your college search as if you were buying a house. You may not find exactly what you're looking for, but get as close as you can. Ashland University was good for me because of the atmosphere, class size, distance from home, major offered, and tons of involvement opportunities. Try to think of reasons why you feel attracted to AU and then when it comes to make a choice, look and debate to see what school is the best fit for you! Remember, these are going to be 4+ years of your life.... make it count!

    Bang for the buck

I love this school, but honestly the price is pretty costly! It is a private school which one would expect to pay a little more for, but the cost can be an issue especially if you come from a lower income family. However, the people at the business office and financial aid are willing to work with you to try and figure a plan out. They really do value the students and don't want to see anyone sacrifice their college education because of money. If you get a great deal with scholarships, grants, financial aid, etc. then you should be ok as far as paying the amount leftover. Don't give up though, if the price they give you is scary, explore all of your options with them. Ashland really is a wonderful school and if you pay for quality then at least make sure you can get a good deal within your budget!

    Am enjoying being here

I personally am from a small town, so I really enjoy the small town atmosphere. However, when things get boring and you feel the need to escape, Ashland is about 20 minutes from Mansfield and a little over an hour away from Columbus and Cleveland. So you don't have a huge commute to make if you need to get away. The students at Ashland are very friendly and we all enjoy each others company! Ashland is pretty quiet and there's not a lot of crime in the community, so it's a pretty safe area.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot of valuable skills pertaining to my career. Having the small class size is a definite plus, not just from my major, but all the others too. When you have a class of about 12 students (on average), you get to be close with your classmates and you can get one-on-one attention with your professors. Class work really gets you involved in your major and you really do learn a lot that applies to your future career paths.

Ashland is great for students who want to get away from home, but still have an at home feeling. The campus is so beautiful and the people so great that you have no trouble beginning to regard Ashland as your home away from home.

    Tips for prospective students

Something that can not be stressed enough is to go in with an open mind. Try some activities you normally would not have done in high school; you might be surprised at how much you like it. You have to make it what you want it to be. You will meet so many people and do so many things that will change your life and help you to grow if you let them.

    Bang for the buck

As a private school it is a bit more expensive than other schools, but its definitely worth it. There are many scholarships and grants that they offer to try and help students out. Overall, I would say Ashland is definitely worth the money you would spend to go there.

    Did enjoy being here

There are so many activities to do at Ashland. From intramural sports, clubs, Greek life, band, concerts, and more you will be sure to never be bored. Not only the activities you are offered, but the shear beauty of the campus as well adds to your enjoyment. The dining hall is top notch as well! You are sure to never go hungry with each meal being all you can eat.

    Did learn a lot

Ashland has some of the most caring, knowledgeable, and helpful professors. They will do whatever they can to help you out, from additional tutoring, one on one time, and extra materials. You not only learn in the classroom, but outside of it as well. The atmosphere at Ashland gets you in the perfect mindset for learning.

In college for the education, Christian, want to stay closer to home, business or education majors.

    Tips for prospective students

Like I said, not a big party school. It's brethren affiliated, so there are a lot of Christian based things to do there. However, they don't shove that down your throat if you are not a Christian. The class size and campus size I believe are just right. Not too big, not too small. It's also in mid-ohio, so it's a nice distance from most places in the state. I know quite a few out of staters that go there too though!

    Bang for the buck

It's expensive, that's for sure. But a lot of students earn a lot of scholarship money, so work for scholarships and it will pay off in the end. I think it's worth it for the private school atmosphere and the great education you get there.

    Am enjoying being here

There's not a huge party scene at Ashland, but if you look you can definitely find them. There are still a ton of things to do though. There are a lot of cool campus events such as comedians, concerts, dance parties and acoustic cafes. Plus, it's only 20 minutes from Mansfield, where there is a lot of shopping, restaurants, and more things to do.

    Am learning a lot

The professors really care about individuals here. Sure, you get the select few that don't, but that's what they all would be like at a bigger school. If I ever need help, I can go to free peer tutoring or as any of my professors and they are glad to help.

Anyone who likes to be in a small quiet town and a great environment this is the a place to be. If you like to have personal attention from the instructors and feel like home this might be the place for you!

    Tips for prospective students

If you desire to accomplish something in your life go for it and don't give up your dreams. Because at the end it will be very rewarding and you will feel good about yourself and people will value you even more.

    Bang for the buck

This is a awesome place even though the tuition is kind of high, because it's a private place that's why. However, they help you with grants and loans in any way they can. Because they want everyone to have a chance in getting an education. I believe strongly that my education will get me a good job so it's worth paying the big bucks right now because it will be good for my future. I have already met a couple of people who got their degree AU and got very good paying jobs. Because they had a good AU resume they were hired on the spot.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being there because it is so easy to have access to the facility. However, making friends has been kind of hard because I'm a non-traditional student and I also commute. But everyone seems to be friendly and overall it's a very nice environment. Also I love the food there because when I need to get a quick meal they work fast and it taste yummy! I love the professors there because they are very caring and seem to give the students what they need. And any time I needed help from my advisor she was always available even when she was very busy she took her time to assist me. That goes for all the staff they always tried to help me when they could.

    Am learning a lot

There are many awesome professors where you can learn a lot and are willing to help you in any way.

    Campus Safety

campus security has very little issues through-out the year, and the town itself is super safe!

    Greek Life

excellent opportunity for social functions, lifelong friends, and leadership roles! there are currently (as of 2012) 3 fraternities, and 4 sororities. recruitment is in the fall (usually september) & i would highly encourage anyone to give it a try & meet the groups of men & women who make up our greek life, here at au.

    What to do for fun

the town of ashland honestly has little to offer most students in the form of fun unless you enjoy going to the same 3-5 sports bars, bowling, or looking at antique shops. with that being said though, cab (campus activities board) puts on many events through-out the year (often something every week) and they are always pretty entertaining options such as: comedians, illusionists, hypnotists, musicians, and even more unique options like foam dance parties. community service opportunities are also plentiful on campus thanks to community care which features several teams that focus on different aspects of service like youth, animals, or the elderly. bottom line- staying on campus is more fun usually than going around the town of ashland, or driving to columbus or cleveland (located an hour away or so) are much better options.

    Food and Dining

ashland spoils its students when it comes to campus dining. they have won awards for many years, often ranking in the top 3 places for best campus dining in the nation. there are several stations that are always offering typical things like sandwiches, or pasta, but the rest of the stations feature daily specials which change every day. the food itself is always pretty good. very rarely is there a time when i cannot find anything i would enjoy eating at any given meal. the hours of operation are also nice because they are flexible around a typical student's busy life. students also have a say every year in what items will be on the menu because the school holds an annual food show & students get to vote on what will be placed on the menu! there are also holiday special nights for valentines day, thanksgiving, halloween, etc. convo. as students call it really is awesome.

    Dorm Life

ashland offers many different styles of dorm life for students to choose from. there are girl/boy only dorms, or there are co-ed (by floor) dorms. most of the dorms have been re-modeled recently with the exception of one or two. if students choose to join a sorority or fraternity they may have the choice to live in a fraternity house, or sorority suite which is a nice change from typical dorms. also, when students become seniors they can look forward to senior apartments which feature leather furniture and air-conditioning.

    Academic Rigor

speaking personally for my own major (early childhood education), i can say that i know i am getting much more experience in classrooms than many of my friends from high school who chose other schools. i also love seeing the looks on people's faces when i tell them i'm not a practicing teacher yet; i'm just a college senior. then, the person tends to ask me where i go to school & i tell them ashland & they say something along the lines of oh, yeah... that's not surprising. i have never heard a student say (from any major) that they weren't receiving adequate knowledge from their professors. ashland truly has high standards and i'm going ot be very proud to show off my degree with their name on it.

    Tips for prospective students

take a tour! looking through brochures and listening to happy students like me tell you about campus isn't going to do it enough justice unless you come to campus & witness what it has to offer for yourself. don't be afraid to ask questions or tell people that you meet what you are interested in. the students, professors, and any faculty member you meet will be very willing to tell you how they feel about any program that is offered or even the town itself. talking to a variety of people on campus & realizing how friendly everyone was (even in the town itself) is a large part of why i chose to attend ashland.

    In three sentences

ashland is great for students who are looking for a home-like atmosphere, featuring small class sizes and lots of personal attention. the campus is beautiful and was founded on judeo-christian values which do play a role in some of the clubs that are offered on campus as well as the conservative-nature of the entertainment & events on campus. while ashland university is definitely not the cheapest private school in ohio, it is classified as middle of the road (price-wise) & is also mid-sized.

there are many clubs and associations to get involved with on campus as well as greek life. there are intramural sports, club sports, and the rec is available for working out and just playing sports for fun. there are parties on this campus but its not your huge party school. since the campus is a dry campus, parties happen outside of campus normally at the sport houses and drinking in dorms is scarce.

    Food and Dining

food and dining at ashland is awesome! the convocation center has been awarded nationally many times for the food. the other places around campus to eat such as the eagles nest and tuffy's smoothie bar are also great places to pick up food.

    Dorm Life

dorm life at ashland is about the same as any other college in the aspect of size. since ashland is slightly religion affiliated opposite sex aren't allowed in dorm rooms after 2 am which can be upsetting for some. also ashland is considered a suit case campus because students tend to go home often on weekends. this is something that tends to stop though as spring semester comes around.

    Academic Rigor

ashlands professors strive to see there students succeed. many professors will have there cell phone numbers available for easy contact when needing help. class sizes are also small which makes learning more one on one.

Take away any interruptions like the phone or anything so you can focus wholehearted on schooling. Make sure you have all supplies you need and keep a very neat work area. Don't work yourself to death but I personally suggest to work on your schooling at least 2 hours everyday. I understand not everyone can do that but stay in there as much as you can without overwhelming yourself because you always want to keep your classes, assignments and work fresh in your memory. I am a 27 year old single mother of 2 struggling to get by and I was stuck on how I could better my life. I knew I wanted to give my children and I the best I was capable of but I didn't know how to go about doing it. Especially since I don't have a lot of moral support and then I realized its up to me. No one is going to do it for me. So I enrolled in school and I am 100 percent determined to finish and better my life. I am starting from scratch and literally a check on 185 dollars a month to live off of. I am positive though and I know when I set my mind to it I can do it and I look forward to my new life one day with my babies so if I can do this anyone out there, don't ever doubt yourself. Always believe in yourself because your the one that is responsible for the better of your own life. Plus its a very rewarding and positive experience to say wow, I am doing this... MYSELF! So good-luck to everyone in America who is striving and struggling but trying to do better in whatever way that might be.

    What to do for fun

I am taking classes online, but I do suggest to not overwhelm yourself with schooling either. Once you've completed an assignment or something be proud of yourself for your accomplishments and celebrate even if it is set on the couch with a good cup of coffee and ice cream and watch and awesome movie.

    Food and Dining

I am taking all classes online.

    Dorm Life

I am taking all classes online.

    Academic Rigor

    I am online student.

    Tips for prospective students

If your doing online like I am, take the time to work with everyone that is willing to help you. Take notes, prioritize, set aside a certain time, day, and couple hours that you can focus only on your school with no distractions. When working on the computer or doing your work with your school make sure you put away all the i pads, phones, tv's etc. anything that can distract you because the most important thing is to set a goal and finish it. Most of all take one day at a time, do not overwhelm yourself but be persistent and set goals and keep them!!!

    In three sentences

The staff here are so helpful in showing me the steps of attending online classes. The website with my classes are made very simple and easy to get in and out. My counselor and so much staff have been such an inspiration and definitely a part of my support group.

Great for students who want attention and relationships with their professors and the university staff.

    Bang for the buck

This is a very expensive college, its hard to say that it's really worth it.

    What to do for fun

Make your own fun, especially if you don't party. CAB puts on a good amount of activities, but friends are really what makes it the best.

    Food and Dining

Best food in the nation, not any more. Still way better than other campuses, oh yes.

    Dorm Life

Depending on your dorm, it can either be run down or really fancy. Also, depending on your dorm, it can be social or not. Overall, I enjoy it. However, I wish we could live off campus if we wanted to.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are very knowledgeable on their subjects, but not all of them. I've learned a lot here, but I know those who have not.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to attend Ashland, be ready for a small college feel. You'll think it is boring, but all you need to do is find your own fun.

    In three sentences

Ashland University is a place where accent on the individual is highly encouraged. However, it is hard to see this coming true in a larger scale. The staff is phenomenal based on the motto, but the administration could use some help with it.

The Eagles are traditional. Most of the early ones were stolen from Case tractor dealerships. They finally gave up and gave the big Eagle to the campus.

My friends and I love what is called the quad on campus. It is in the center of campus and we spent many hours out there studying, eating, playing soccer, volleyball, I think one of the girls even slept out there one night! :)

    What to do for fun

There is always something going on on campus. From the recreation center having activities to the art gallery. Plenty of party houses off campus if that's your thing!

    Food and Dining

There are so many options! If the food in the cafeteria doesn't sound good head on over to the eagles nest where there is a grill and a deli and many other options. Grab something if you are late for class or if it's going to be a late night studying (or partying).

    Dorm Life

I lived on campus my first year and I loved every minute. The told us to leave our doors open for the first week so that it was more of an open door, come on in atmosphere. My entire floor became very close. We did everything together and are all best friends to this day.

    Campus Safety

Safety goes around throughout the day and night checking doors and patrolling to check to see if anything is wrong.

    Greek Life

Ashland's greek life wasn't for me but it does seem pretty fun. They have so many activities they do throughout the year and they seem to all be very close.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a couple of places to go if you want to dance and go out with friends. One place is called Monte B's and the other place is Good Fellows.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Ashland has a weeks for homecoming where there are many activities. One of the big events is the banana split eating contest. It's not any normal banana split either. One of the university roads is closed off and the banana split fills the road.

    What to do for fun

There is a bowling alley in town, along with a movie theater. Usually the group that is called CAB plans something for the weekends to do. So if you get bored you can go watch a movie with everyone or they have other activities planned. There are usually a lot of dances througout the year and they are actually pretty fun. Sometimes it's just fun to stay in the dorm and go to the basement to hang out with friends.

    Food and Dining

The food is great! Especially because we have so many different options to choose from. The cooks and servers are also extremely nice and it's easy to form a friendship with them.

    Dorm Life

The only thing that isn't very pleasing about the dorm life is the curfews. Guys are to be escorted after 11pm in the girls dorms and are to leave by 2am and vice versa. So it makes it hard to hang out with friends late at night on weekends. It's pretty easy to get used to though.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers there are as serious about your education as you are. If you do not want to put an effort in then they will not either. They are always there to help you get the grade you deserve though and that is what's nice about the professors here.

    Tips for prospective students

Students that are looking at going to Ashland should know that college isn't how they seem on movies. Ashland is a dry campus and a lot of the time students are very studious. Although it is pretty fun. The food there is excellent too!

    In three sentences

Ashland University is a great school to go to for students who want a good education. The teachers there are very intelligent and care about the students in all aspects. Everyone that I have met so far are all nice and welcoming to the school.

Perhaps TOO good. You could get minor offenses for silly things like being in an opposite sex's room after hours. BUT! Although it seems like too much at times, you know they have your best interest at heart, which made me feel safe at Ashland, even though we would complain about the borderline nosiness of the Safety staff.

    Greek Life

I don't know if it was the small town atmosphere, but the Greek life was very gossipy and elitist. However, there are some groups that were amazing and attracted well-rounded individuals.

    Clubs and Activities

It was usually hard to keep the commuter students on campus with the activities.

Great for these types of students

Hard-working and like having good times with friends and classmates!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Only one I can remember is Cat Man, who is a local in the area and has a car of porcelain cat decorations. Campus-wise, there is banana-splittin in the fall, and good grilling out on the lawn in the spring. Greek Week usually attracted a lot of people to it as well.

    Bang for the buck

Ashland U. goes beyond the mere money aspect of the current educational institution and really wants the students who want to be there, stay there and graduate. I had many issues financially and they made sure EVERY SEMESTER that I was set so I could focus on classwork and my graduation from the institution. Their staff is very caring (including the maintenance, administrative, and cafeteria staffs) and Ashland will always feel like home to you.

    What to do for fun

In a small town, although it's expanding. Wal-Mart is your closest mall, but the drive time to Ontario, OH (that has a bazillion stores and restaurants) is about a half-hour one way. The Campus Activities Board, Greek Life, and a host of other university-funded programs provide a lot of activities and events.

    Food and Dining

RENOWNED for their student dining and rightfully so! I miss the convocation center, as I had a multitude of choices for every day of the week. My family referred to it as the mini-mall of food.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are usually very small, as there is an emphasis on social interaction and engaging study outside of dorms.

    Academic Rigor

My major was psychology and I did heavy emphasis on biology and statistics/math. All departments which demanded a lot of study time, but I had the best preparation for grad school that I am currently in now.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to STUDY; this is not your traditional party campus. Be prepared to do work outside of class to engage yourself and your field of study. Be prepared to pay a lot at this institution although it is undoubtably worth it.

    In three sentences

Provides a supportive space for learning, social interaction, networking, and how to deal with issues in the adult world of work. This institution will challenge you academically and by acquiring time management skills. Top of the line professors (including many department majors) that are experienced in their field and focus on individual guidance even outside of the classroom and the price tag reflects all of these.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many ways to get involved on campus!

    What to do for fun

I enjoy just being with my friends in the dorms, but I also enjoy the rec center. The rec is a great facility with a pool, machines, classes and even a rock wall. There are also concerts, comedians, and other fun things happening on campus. If you are bored on campus there is a bowling ally down the road and Mansfield (a bigger city) is about 20min. away with movie theaters and more.

    Food and Dining

Ashland is known for their great food. They always have the best meals! I eat better at school then I do at home!

    Campus Safety

During my time as a student there, there were very few noteworthy safety concerns, but there were some that made me wonder if the patrollers were really trying or not, such as a string of minor vandalism that went on for a few months. But if you weren't parked where you belonged they sure would know.

    Greek Life

I never got involved but when I was a student there the Greek life seemed very active from an outsider's perspective.

    Clubs and Activities

This was probably the most underwhelming thing about the school during my time there, but at least they tried I suppose.

Great for these types of students

Curious and self motivated students can thrive here. Pretty much anyone can do well though. The only students that should avoid AU are students that cannot get help when they need it and/or that are not really looking to learn and just want a college to coast at.

    Bang for the buck

It is a good school, but I won't say it is a great school, and while it is certainly not that expensive compared to some of the other Ohioan private schools, it is still a considerable expense.

    What to do for fun

There's not a whole lot to do in the city of Ashland.and the campus wasn't exactly bursting at the seams with events last I checked (which was a few years ago to be fair), but if you can make some friends then you can figure something out.

    Food and Dining

    Most. Amazing. College. Food. Ever.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms are not too shabby, but beware the freshman dorms. Those are rather underwhelming.

    Academic Rigor

This was the first place, and so far only place actually (even among my other college experiences), to academically challenge me at all (with anything other than overburdening by busywork tactics leastwise), little though it may have been. Expect classes to be fairly demanding, but also rewarding. Do not hesitate to seek tutors, and don't be afraid to ask the professors for help.

    Tips for prospective students

First, that idyllic sit under the trees while you study thing doesn't really happen no matter what the brochure says. More seriously however, Ashland is a good school, you just have to stay on top of things. Time management, money management, etc. Just like growing up, no matter what path you take.

    In three sentences

Small, beautiful, exciting. And it definitely does have plenty of sharp minds about and you can learn plenty of things that will help you secure employment or grad school. No place is perfect though, so don't let them fool you into thinking it is, but think critically about everything that happens there - that is after all a campus wide learning goal.

Nothing dangerous really happens in Ashland. Everyone around here is very trusting and nice. The school maintains the small-town atmosphere of the actual town of Ashland.

Great for these types of students

This school has one of the best education programs in Ohio so I recommend any education student to at least check out the school.

    What to do for fun

There is not much to do off-campus because Ashland is such a small town. If you have a car and a lot of gas there is tons of events you can drive to in Mansfield or Akron. However, unless there are events going on at the Campus, find a lot of friends and be creative.

    Food and Dining

The food is very good. I rarely have any problem with the food quality.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms are very small and you cannot live off-campus unless you are living with your family, married, widowed, or 22 years old. It is not for everyone.

    Academic Rigor

In my opinion the course work is not very heavy. That may be because the classes are so small, if you have a problem with work it is so easy to go to your teacher and fix the problem.

    Tips for prospective students

Just be careful when you decide on this school that you can afford the tuition of the school. Though if you can't Ashland is very nice about trying to help you go to this school anyway you can.

    In three sentences

I really enjoy this school. Though it is my first year, I feel that I fit in perfectly at this small school. The only problem I have is with the stress that the tuition can cause during the school year.

Great for these types of students

    What to do for fun

In Ashland there is not a whole lot to do. Hence we make our own fun. We organize events and the campus activities board holds events sponsored by the school. As with any school there are parties.

    Food and Dining

Food is excellent and dining service staff is friendly.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are fairly small and the off campus living restrictions are far to strict. Also it is a dry campus (this is neither good or bad just a good thing to know coming in.)

    Academic Rigor

All depends on your major. Some are easier then others but classes can be difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose your college carefully. DO NOT base your decision on where your friends are going.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is on the watch 24/7. There are emergency call phones all over campus in case of an emergency. Safety will also walk to back to your dorm or to other buildings at night if you feel nervous.

    Greek Life

Many fraternities and sororities to join.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and activities to chose from and you can also make your own.

Great for these types of students

Anyone that is interesting in receiving high levels of excellence in education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Campus has its own lingo. Many of the buildings have nicknames. It is easy to catch on to within the first couple of weeks.

    Bang for the buck

The university is expensive, but they have recently cut the tuition price by 10,000 dollars, making it one of the cheapest private universities in Ohio. I personally have really enjoyed being at Ashland for school. My suggestion is to visit the college so that way you can get a feel for the atmosphere. College should feel like your home away from home, so make sure that you feel comfortable there and like what the university has to offer.

    What to do for fun

During the week, there are many clubs and activities to take part in. On the weekends, the campus does get quiet, so many people will drive to Mansfield for activities. Ashland does however have a historic downtown and several shops. There is also a bowling alley.

    Food and Dining

The campus dining hall has been ranked best in the nation for many years. The cafeteria is served in buffet style. As a freshman, you are required to purchase an unlimited meal plan. The campus also offers two other dining options: The Eagles Nest, and the Schar Cafe. The Eagles Nest is located in the Student Center and uses meal swipes, Eagle Dollars or cash. The Schar Cafe also uses meal swipes, Eagle Dollars or cash and is located in the Schar Center of Education. If a student has the unlimited meal plan, they will have to pay for food at the Schar Cafe or Eagles Nest with Eagle Dollars or cash. There are also restaurants around campus: McDonald's, Taco Bell, Buffalo Wild Wings, Subway, Eva's Treats (Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt), and Burger King.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms on campus are not new, but they are maintained very well. There is one all male dorm, 2 all female dorms, 4 co-ed dorms, and the senior apartments.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are a large focus of the school. You will need to set aside time to work on your studies. I've found that the amount of time that will need to be spent on your studies depends on what you are majoring in and how well you are with time management. However, the campus also offers tutoring services for free. If you ever need any help with a subject, test taking tips or just need general questions answered, this department can help you.

    Tips for prospective students

In order to get acclimated to the campus atmosphere, it is important to get involved. My advice is to sign up to receive emails for any group that you find interesting, that way you are always aware of when they are meeting. From there, you can decide whether or not your schedule will allow you to commit to that group.

    In three sentences

Ashland is a wonderful school for academics and student involvement. Most of the professors on campus hold a PhD in their chosen field. Students can participate in many of the vast amounts of clubs and groups on campus or make their own club if one does not exist for their interest.
