Great for these types of students

Aurora University is great for students who are looking for a smaller school and more personalized learning. It is much easier to establish a teacher-student relationship and also to get to know your classmates. I would not recommend this school to students who just want to go to school to party, like at a state college, or to those who like busy city life.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend visiting AU on more than one occasion so that you can see a little more variety in the school, and to go on a nice, sunny day, because if you go on a rainy day it will ruin the whole experience. Don't be afraid to ask questions; the faculty as well as the students are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The faculty is very understanding and willing to help, and the students are very accepting. I was surprised at how friendly the entire campus is.

    Bang for the buck

As soon as you're accepted, AU gives you any scholarships you are eligible for, without having to do any extra work. By filling out an application, you are applying for enrollment as well as scholarships.

    Am enjoying being here

I have never had this much fun before. I enjoy every day living on campus, being with friends and just overall having a good time. It is a stress-free environment, making it easy for me to have fun while still maintaining a 3.7 GPA.

    Am learning a lot

If you take the time to work towards good grades, your professors will too. They truly care about your success.

Great for these types of students

AU is great but if you are looking for the big university town and experience this is not for you. Aurora University is located within a short drive to Chicago, but we are a small community in a mid -sized rural area. If you want a place to call home... AU is for you!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for every scholarship you can. Meet with the counselors to make sure you are on track, as well as to discuss the many program opportunities. Plan a visit before making your decision.

    Bang for the buck

AU is a private school, but if you qualify for scholarships and grants it isn't bad. The classes are small and you get individual attention from the professors. They can call you by name within a few classes periods. AU offers amazing teachers and a quality education that you can be proud of.

    Am enjoying being here

I love AU, but as a senior with an internship I do not have alot of time for the extras. As of now AU does not offer any classes on-line. As a non traditional student with a family that is the one thing I would like to see even if only for the gen. ed classes.

    Am learning a lot

I am a non traditional student who transferred from a community college. The education is wonderful, the professors challenge the students and the education is all the better for it. When you leave you will be prepared.

Great for these types of students

Great for people who like small settings, the campus is small the class sizes and it gives off a friendly feeling.

    Tips for prospective students

If you do come here take advantage of everything that is offered it will make your experience here worth it.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your moneys worth and with it being a private school you definitely get plenty of assistance you need. You also get to go on trips like to six flags or musicals for free when you pay the activities fee at the beginning of the year. Unlimited trips for $50 a semester

    Am enjoying being here

The people here are friendly and willing to make friends. The campus is small enough to recognize many faces and has plenty of places to go study.

    Am learning a lot

This is a place that encourages whatever style of learning that you have. It also has many teachers who are willing to take the time with you one on one to help you grasp the subject better. As well as a tutoring center that make a schedule with you and make help available.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who like small classrooms and one on one attention. It is great for students who want to build a relationship with the teacher and who may need help or the extra push.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come to this school to play games. It is not tolerated, these teachers are on a mission and will do everything in their power to help you succeed!

    Bang for the buck

Although Aurora University could use more on campus activities, educationally Aurora University does the teaching job perfectly. With the student to teacher ratio being so small teachers actually build relationships with students and really care about their grades and success.

    Am enjoying being here

Aurora University is a wonderful institution. Aside from caring teachers, the students are a great group as well. There is something for everyone. Aurora University is full of diversity and is trying in every way to make everyone feel as comfortable and at home as possible. I have met some of the best students here and made very good friends.

    Am learning a lot

Aside from a decent amount of work, it is hard to fall behind with teachers as caring as the ones here. Every time I step foot in a classroom I leave knowing more and understanding more than I came in knowing. The teaching is magnificent, and the things we learn in class are applicable to our careers and everyday life.

Great for these types of students

AU is great for students that are intimidated by large state schools. Classes are small, with my largest one consisting of only 30 students. Also, this campus is great for students who like to make a difference in the community. There are so many activities and organizations that are active in helping members of the community. In addition there is a student government (AUSA) that helps make changes happen on campus itself. This school is great for people who want to leave a legacy.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved on campus. There is an office of student activities in the Spartan Spot (student hangout with food made to order, a tv and a pool table) this is the place to go to to find out about any student organization, or even create your own! Getting involved helps you meet new people, and also is helpful for meeting non-teaching faculty that may help you in the future with recommendations. It is important to get involved early to build your resume, especially if you plan on getting an internship. I am actively involved in two student organizations, attend school as a full-time student, and work part-time on campus. It has really helped me.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that I am getting a pretty strong education here. I am a social work student, and all the upper level major requirements are taught by full time faculty. You will never meet a Teacher's Assistant on this campus. Some of the general education classes however, are taught by adjunct professors who are not always the best prepared. Also I mentioned before that all student activities are free for students who only pay a $50 activity fee. The campus food is relatively expensive though, with meals costing $5 with a meal plan, and $6 without.

    Am enjoying being here

There is so much to get involved in on campus. This is a major draw for me, because as a commuter student who lives alone, if there were no activities on campus, I would be spending a lot of time sitting around at home. There are over 60 student organizations, that range from Games Club to Scrapbooking Club to Sororities to Psychology Club. I am an active member of the Activities Programming Board, which is in charge of contracting musicians, comedians, magicians, hypnotists, and other events to come to campus. I am also involved in Circle K, as well as LEAD a leadership training program on campus. The best part is, every activity is free for students. If you are bored on this campus it is because you are not attending events. We also have many sports including Baseball, Football, Tennis, Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, and new this year: Lacrosse.

    Am learning a lot

Aurora University provides a unique experience. Students are not only taught book knowledge, but learn to think independently. The IDS courses really force you to explore your own beliefs, and it is refreshing to see students opening up about their opinions, even if they are different from other students in the class.

Great for these types of students

Great for people interested in a small private university. AU is located in a suburban are which is usually quiet and stress free. AU is also located close to Chicago, so if you would like to visit Chicago just take the Metra.

    Tips for prospective students

For students interested in AU, I would recommend them to visit the university. They should ask questions about the university and helpful resources. If you are interested in a sport or club, you should definitely join one or more.

    Bang for the buck

If you are in need of financial aid and have a good GPA, AU will give you financial aid to help you out with tuition. So far most of the classes that I've taken are science classes, and those are saturated with a lot of information. Professors won't give up until the students have learned the material. Professors have office hours where a student can go to their office and ask questions about the lectures and things they don't understand. The class sizes are small, which means professors have more time for you.

    Am enjoying being here

Being able to attend AU is awesome. Right now I'm involved with the Latin American Student Organization. Being part of this organization has helped me make new friends and be involved on campus. The university is small and has a nice cozy environment. During the nice sunny days you'll enjoy walking to your classes and watching the nice scenery.

    Am learning a lot

Right now I am a Junior at AU majoring in Health Science. I am taking many science classes and am learning a lot! I love my classes and the professors are great. They motivate you to do your best, and are people you can trust. Do not be afraid to ask questions because they are more than happy to answer them for you :)

Great for these types of students

Small campus lovers rejoice!! This campus is a big rectangle so it is impossible to get lost and it takes about 5 minutes to walk from one corner of the campus to the other which is great in winter. The Spartan Spot is the perfect place to hang with friends and there are always people playing games on the Quad.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get involved as much as you can and always talk to teachers if you need help. It is really hard to catch up on work once you fall behind. If you ever get confused, go to your teacher during their office hours and they will be more than willing to help.

    Bang for the buck

It is a fantastic school for the money. You get a great education and make life long friends and every one knows about AU. My boss at work has a daughter who went there, my doctor and her entire family went there, even random people on the street or in stores that you talk to have either went there, or they know people who went there. It is a very well known school because of how much people loved it there.

    Did enjoy being here

The only reason I put 3 stars is because I'm one of those people who need to be constantly entertained or I lose interest. Most of the teachers are the best I have ever had, the other students are extremely nice and open, and the classes, for the most part, are interesting. I just did not find enough activities to keep me entertained.

    Did learn a lot

In order to learn a lot, you have to put in a lot of work. For some classes it was easy because I had good teachers and the material was interesting. For other classes, you really have to work at it.

    Campus Safety

campus safety patrols the area all day long including the nighttime. there are call buttons for students all over campus in case of emergency. students who don't feel safe at night have the opportunity to have campus safety escort them to their cars or dorms. the campus safety officials are all nice and welcoming.

    Greek Life

there are is a sorority and fraternity. the fraternity is a latin one.

    Clubs and Activities

there is a number of great organizations on campus including intervarsity christian fellowship, games club, a few sororities, honors programs, laso (latin american student organization), and bsa (black student association).

Great for these types of students

this campus is great for all students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

one of the campus' biggest traditions is the engagement rock. in front of ehkart hall, there is a rock that numerous au couples propose at. whenever a couple does so, there marriage is supposed to be pretty successful and happy. the spot is another big location. it is a recreational place for food, tv, pool, and air hockey.

    Bang for the buck

all the computer labs are free to use and printing is also free. the center for teaching and learning is another free opportunity on campus. the center is used for tutoring in all areas especially math, science, and paper corrections. all events on and off campus hosted through the university are also free to attend. sometimes, the campus hosts events like musicals. last here, the campus took a trip to see the lion king.

    What to do for fun

there is plenty of opportunities to do around the area. aurora is a big city which includes shopping, the westfield mall, movies, bowling alleys, mini golf in yorkville which isn't too far away, and chicago. the train station is located in aurora and it doesn't cost too much to board a train and spend the day in chicago. the campus also hosts arts and entertainment events where they bring in guest speakers, musicians, magicians, dances and other various events. the best way to get involved is through organizations which also host a lot of fun activities.

    Food and Dining

the spot food is probably some of the best food on campus, but it's more of a fast food place so the food isn't as healthy as it could be. it does taste good though! there is also a to go place called la carte which is mostly pre-made food but some of it is made in the microwave. their dinning hall is buffet style and has salads, pasta, soup, and pizza every day but the more dinner foods vary each day.

    Dorm Life

i'm a commuter student so i don't really know what it is like to be a dorm student. au's campus is very commuter and dormer friendly however. the campus has about half dormers and half commuters. many of the professors understand the pressures of being a commuter student. my friends that are dormers though, seem to like the dorms. they just added a new dorm that is really popular.

    Academic Rigor

classes are not difficult if students are ready and willing to do the work. professors enjoy students that do their assignments and speak up in class or actively take notes. each class is different and each program is also different. for instance, the nursing department is very competitive.

    Tips for prospective students

the most important part about being a college student is getting involved on campus. if you are involved on campus, you take a personal stock in your college career. students that are apart of organizations and have jobs on or off of campus tend to have higher time management skills and are happier on campus.

    In three sentences

aurora university is a great college to attend and i would give it an 8 out of 10. the student to teacher ratio is low which allows teachers to actually get to know their students and take care in their academics on a more personal level. the campus has a friendly and inviting atmosphere and is always open to critique if there is something they can do better.

There is also Greek life, A.R.I.S.E, Human Rights Organization, Circle K, Club Fit, Intervarsity, Future Leaders of the World, and many more! AU also offers intramurals.

Great for these types of students

Aurora University is great for students who like the small school feeling. It is also great for those who like to enjoy themselves while knowing they are receiving a wonderful education.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Aurora University always starts the year off with movie on the quad, which is where everyone sits on the quad and watches a movie that is projected. Another AU tradition is sleep out on the quad, which is a tradition where students sleep on the quad on a chilly night to raise awareness for those who are less fortunate and have no home to live in. Home coming week is another great AU tradition where student come together to show their spartan pride!

    Bang for the buck

The school is pretty affordable and offers many scholarships, grants, and loans to help make Aurora University even more affordable.

    What to do for fun

For fun, many wonder over to the Spartan Spot for billiards, food, television, or just to hang out. Others just like to hang out in the dorms, which can be fun! For off campus fun, the Geneva Commons are about 20 minutes away and is a great way to get off campus and do a little shopping. Many go to the Tinsel Town theater about 5 minutes away to enjoy a cheap movie with your AU ID! The clubs on campus always have things going on to enjoy from dances, to raising money for different awareness issues. There is always something fun to do at or around Aurora University!

    Food and Dining

The food at Aurora University is great! There are many different choices for dining areas. Whether it is a quick bite at the Cart, or a sit down meal while hanging out at the Spartan Spot, the food is tasty! The cafeteria is a bit small, but it is a small school and it seems to work. If you do not have a meal plan it can be a bit pricey, but other than that it is great.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life at Aurora University varies. There were new dorms built just this year that are great! While other dorms are very old and have no air conditioning and kind of feel run down a little. Although they are all different, everyone seems to enjoy themselves while they stay at AU.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are difficult enough to keep you interested and make you challenge yourself. Yet, they do not make you feel overwhelmed. There are many different classes to chose from, many difficult while others are very enjoyable.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for prospective students would be to get involved with anything you enjoy on campus to meet new people and get to know what the University offers. Make sure to enjoy yourself while studying to keep up the grades; classes at Aurora University are hard but there are many ways to get help.

    In three sentences

Aurora University is a small school great for people who like a lot of one on one time with professors. The professors are always helpful and willing to meet for extra help. The campus is fun and and there are so many ways to get involved.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is a joke. A few times, there were attempted kidnappings near campus, and all students received warning e-mails. Beyond that, they really don't do anything.

Great for these types of students

Students from small towns. The intimacy is great. However, students who grew up in cities with a lot of activities often complain of being bored.

    What to do for fun

    Academic Rigor

It varies. General Education courses are sometimes obnoxiously easy. High level classes and honors classes, however, are satisfactorily challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are able, join the honors program. It offers the most challenging, interesting classes. Get involved! It makes college a much more satisfying experience.

    In three sentences

It is a very small campus, and has a small-town feel to it. You cannot walk across campus without spotting several people you know. AU has small class sizes, and professors who are generally understanding of students' needs.

    What to do for fun

The school has many clubs and organizations. Also there is a Fun Center down the road from the school.

    Food and Dining

The food that is served in the cafeteria is restaurant quality food. Each day they offer a buffet of different meals.

    Dorm Life

    I am a commuter.

    Academic Rigor

Aurora University really pushes their students to do well. In certain classes a student needs to earn a C or better to move on or that class needs to be retaken. The University also offers Advance Standing programs or a more fast paced program for degrees of those with higher GPA's.

    Tips for prospective students

College is not easy, be prepared for endless papers and hours studying, they are merely preparing you for your future careers, and this writer believes that nothing is worth it unless one works hard for it.

    In three sentences

Aurora University is a great accredited college that offers not just undergraduate degrees but also graduate and doctoral degrees as well. I achieved my undergrad in Social Work here and am enrolled in their graduate program. I would give Aurora University a 10 out of 10 because it has a beautiful campus and the professors care for each students success.

    Campus Safety

I have been at AU for a year and nothing bad has ever happened. Everyday you will most likely pass at least one of the campus security officers walking around campus and making sure that everything is okay. They also provide some services like walking you to and from your dorm, or any other building on campus, if it is really late and dark outside. Also, only residents of the campus have access to the dorms, so no intruder would be able to walk in there.

    Food and Dining

There are three main places for buying food on campus. One is the cafeteria, where you pay for your meal at the door and then have as much food as you like when you get in. For those hungry people, the cafeteria may be the best for your stomach and your wallet. For those that just want a sensible meal, The Spot is open until very late at night and sell good food. Along with this, The Spot also has entertainment like a TV, pool table, Foosball, and a friendly environment. For those in a hurry, the food cart is also available by selling food that can be eaten on the go for those almost late to class or for just a snack.

    Dorm Life

I have never dormed, so I may not be the best judge at this. I have heard that dorming at Aurora University is not bad, but it isn't great either. Only the people who live at the dorm can enter the building by sliding their ID's at the front door, which does add security. Friends can still enter but only if a resident opens the door for them.

    Academic Rigor

Aurora University is not easy academically, but there are services here to help those who need it. AU concentrates a lot on writing, therefore many papers are written for a variety of classes. With the help of services like the Center for Teaching and Learning, tutors, and meetings with professors, those papers may not be too bad..

    In three sentences

Aurora University is a small campus, which creates a more comfortable environment and makes an overall great school. There are many clubs and organizations that can be joined and created to benefit the students at a whole. AU does as much as they can to help students and make sure that no one is left behind.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is great on campus. There are always people on duty, walking around, and making sure everything is ok. There are also blue emergency posts at different spots all over campus in case of an emergency/issue. If you are a resident and have a car on campus BEWARE of overnight parking. Overnight parking is only available in 2 of the of the many lights and campus safety does like to fine you (usually $20) if you are not in the right lot.

    Greek Life

There are multiple sororities and fraternities on campus. Depending on what you are interested in, ethnicity, etc. you can decide on which one to join if interested. I am a member of the sorority of Sigma Delta Gamma, which is a sorority that prides itself on leadership and community service. All greeks on campus are leaders, and are all VERY nice and accepting.

    Clubs and Activities

There a lot of clubs and activities on campus. Trips off campus include Cubs/Sox games, musicals, six flags, pirate day, valentines day decorating, decorating pumpkins, Bragging rights (competition between all the dorm buildings), intramurals+competitive sports, poetry nights, movie nights, Humans vs. zombies (week long tag), etc. There are always events! As for clubs there are clubs related to you majors, sororities+fraternities (NON-HAZING campus), Activities Programming Board, Human Rights Org., Animals Rights Org., and more!

    Bang for the buck

Personally I feel that I have gotten my bang for the buck. Every person is different though, and you make what you want of your college experience. If you get involved on campus and work hard in your classes it will be a very rewarding experience.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of great activities on campus: movie nights, trips (zoo, six flags, musicals, laser tag, poetry nights, hypnotist, etc). There is usually always an event on campus during the week and weekends. (They have massages on the go during finals week-GREAT!). If you have a car there is also a great Laser Tag place down the road, and shopping/movie theaters/restaurants nearby. Also there are also always sporting events going on, and more people need to go cheer on our Spartans!

    Food and Dining

There are 3 places to dine at on campus: the Spot, the Cafeteria, and the cart. The cart is great for grabbing drinks and sandwiches/salds on the go. The Cafeteria is a buffet style facility where there is always salads, pizza, and 2 different main meals to choose from every night. The spot is a good place to grab a burger/sandwich and to relax and visit with friends. The food quality is not amazing, but it is not bad either. A lot of different options are offered, and depending on what you want you go where you want.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great because it allows you to meet a lot more people and participate in a lot of night/weekend events on campus. The room sizes are great (rooms are big and spacious compared to those at NIU-plus cheaper), and everyone is pretty considerate of one another (not too loud ever). There are 6 dorm buildings (Jenks, Wilki, Davis, Memorial, Watkins, and new dorm building). Some of the carpeting/tiling could use a replacement, but otherwise there aren't too many complaints. The bathrooms and hallways are kept clean too!

    Academic Rigor

Most of the professors here at AU expect a lot from you. There are reading and writing assignments assigned basically every class period, but as long as you read and participate people should do just fine. The professors are very helpful if you actually ask or visit during office hours. If you work hard you should get a lot out of your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! There are dances, movie nights, sports (intramural and competitive), trips (six flags, zoo, corn maze, musicals), and a lot of other great activities. The more involved you are the more likely you are to meet a lot of great people, and have more fun.

    In three sentences

Aurora is a small, inclusive university where after spending some time here you get to know and recognize MANY people on campus. There are always a lot of great activities, and everyone is very helpful and welcoming.

Campus safety tries, however there have been cases of being held at gun point among other things

    Clubs and Activities

Aurora university has the traditional clubs.

Great for these types of students

    Nursing Education Social Work

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Recently built a new dorm hall. The location is where in the past students who were married lived, dubbed baby making dorms

    Bang for the buck

Good deal for Nursing, Social work, Education majors.

    What to do for fun

Like any college you have the off campus parties, but not much else to do on campus when classes are off. Every once in awhile they have Pancake Night, which is a night you stand in line for an hour for cold pancakes. The cafe tries to spice things up with nights of certain foods and prizes.

    Food and Dining

Leaves much to be desired. Three locations. Cafe- Hot meals that lack in the weekend. Spot- the 'hang out' area of AU. Serves fast food. La Carte- Simply to go food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not the worst, not the best either. Student activties are limited, and there are virtually no activities on weekends. This is a suitcase college. Everyone packs up and leaves. Rooms are small, not air conditioned for most building, usually not a problem, however can be. Dorm Halls are old, some are in worse shape then others, university is working on this.

    Academic Rigor

This really depends on your major. The nursing, social work, and education programs are what the university is the best at.

    Tips for prospective students

Prosepective students, be sure to visit the campus for a weekend as well as try to attend one of the courses. The major departments that you hear of are Nursing, Education, Social work. If you do not plan on being one of these, consider other options. Also, students from far away should be prepared for loneliness and boredom on weekends.

    In three sentences

Aurora University is a small private university with a great nursing, social work, and education programs. The tuition is a bit high, however the university compensates for the high prices by providing more scholarships then other universities. The only complaint I have is that Aurora Universities student life is still developing, the school virtually shuts down on weekends and any holidays, even minor ones.

    What to do for fun

I haven't experienced anything to do for fun yet but AU has numerous clubs and inter-murals that you can join/start, so there's always something to do on campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is good, like any other school. They cater to your need. for example if you are allergic to peanuts you file out what you are allergic to and they make your food especially for you.

    Dorm Life

The dorms aren't extremely big but are big enough for you and your roommate. The dorms are co-ed but split up by east and west wings. But it'll fun to meet new people and hang out in their room.

I haven't taken any courses yet because i dont start school until Aug. but I sat in a class session and it seemed to be quite rigorous.

Theres not much to choose from.

    Clubs and Activities

I see some, but the community seems sort of lacking...

Great for these types of students

Commuter Students, Those in the Nursing and Business fields, Who like being close to Chicago, Scholarship opportunities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

None that I can think of.

    Bang for the buck

For being a Private School its pretty inexpensive. They provide you with plenty of Scholarship opportunities.

    What to do for fun

If you like shopping, Aurora is a mecca for it. The Paramount theatre is pretty good... and the surrounding towns are pretty interesting. And Chicago is 40 mins away.

    Food and Dining

Theres technically only 3 places to get food and most notably, one dining hall. The breakfasts are pretty drab but the meals here are mostly good.

    Dorm Life

Its not that great unless youre in the New Hall. It doesn't help when youre in a dorm full of people you cant relate to. Nevertheless, dorm life is a different experience.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are pretty good. Since the classes are small, the communication between students and professors is pretty nice. Be prepared to write though, a lot. Its a very writing intensive school.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely look at your choices before considering. Its a commuter school, so be prepared to have some downtime.

    In three sentences

Aurora University is a Private Liberal Arts College in Aurora, Illinois. Its a small school, so you'll get to familiarize yourself pretty well with other students. The University is a Division III school, but it is still pretty focused on Athletics, which might alienate some.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is a joke. There was a bomb threat the first month of the 2012-2013 school year.

    Bang for the buck

    It is not worth it.

    Food and Dining

Most people choose to make food in their rooms because food poisoning is big on this campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is horrible. The dorms are all falling apart except for in New Hall.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are not good for business majors. The teachers are generally not good at explaining what they are talking about.

    Tips for prospective students

    Do not apply here.

    In three sentences

This school is not a place I reccommend. Everything that goes on is based on hear-say. It is basically a bigger high school.

    Campus Safety

They actually do a really great job making this school feel safe. You always see officers walking around and there is always somewhere to go if you feel unsafe.

    Bang for the buck

I LOVE the professors here, but this college is overpriced for what you get. I am in too far now to leave, but this school was a mistake.

    What to do for fun

Nothing. It is a boring campus.

    Food and Dining

I got food poisoning last December from the cafe. I went to the hospital and brought back a doctors note and brought it to the manager. He did nothing. He didnt even e-mail me back. He simply apologized when I spoke to him in person and has avoided me since.

    Dorm Life

Overpriced for what you get. The building was loud and the RA did nothing about an abusive floormate. My roommate was also abusive, and when I brought it to the attention of my RA, she laughed at me.

    Academic Rigor

They do challenge you at this school, and all the professors WANT you to do well.

    In three sentences

Aurora University is an unfair school. Although the teachers obviously love what they do, the people in charge take advantage of their power and threaten students on a regular basis. Just last week, the president of the University sent out an e-mail to all students saying that she was going to restrict parking for commuters (what do you want them to do? fly to school?) and threatened to take away athletic teams for the actions of two students.

Campus safety officers are around and there has not been any times my friends and I have felt unsafe.

    Greek Life

Not much Greek Life. They have some, but they are more like clubs. Not the experience you would get at a bigger school in reference to Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

They are available but I never had time to join.

Great for these types of students

Students that like small classes and take school seriously. Students that like class discussion and learning new things.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing too unusual. The campus is located in middle of a residential area which is a little unique.

    Bang for the buck

You get a great private school experience for the price. They offer a lot of financial help and scholarships for undergraduate.

    What to do for fun

Some events and clubs on campus. Not the most social environment.

    Food and Dining

Good snacks and meals available, but they are overpriced.

    Dorm Life

I did not live in the dorms but I have heard mixed reviews.

    Academic Rigor

The course work has some challenging aspects but is definitely manageable, even for a working student.

    Tips for prospective students

Aurora University is right for you if you like small classes and are looking for an educational experience.

Good food in campus. But it has its ups and downs; sometimes great food is on the menu sometimes decent food is on the menu.

    Dorm Life

Easy going, do what you want. Empty in the weekends.

    Academic Rigor

Your work ethic will be tested. But you have everything to help you prepare here. A library open late for cram sessions and finals week.

    Tips for prospective students

Get active, meet new people, be apart of Aurora.

    In three sentences

Interesting classes, helpful faculty, organizations to meet your interests, ambitious students, and the resources to kick start a successful future. All around a great school to go. Aurora is a big city with everything spread out, the university here is a glimmering jewel of the city. The college itself is the city upon a hill, with the eyes of the surrounding city looking inward to see the illumination of your accomplishments within the school.

Great for these types of students

Students that like small class sizes and don't want to be overwhelmed with a big city feel.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of student run organizations and clubs. APB does a great job bringing comedians, musicians, hypnotists etc to campus and provide free trips for students. The surrounding area is busy as well but sometimes costly.

    Food and Dining

All you can eat cafe, grab and go cart, and the Spartan Spot (diner).

    Dorm Life

Only lived in the dorms for a semester but I really liked them. Very spacious for dorms, and I would definitely recommend for incoming freshman.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety definitely does their job and they do it well. They are always their and they help make students feel safe.

    Greek Life

The Greek life is decent I heard. The campus does not provide a place for Greek houses so it makes it difficult for the members to do certain things.

    Clubs and Activities

They do offer lots of clubs for students to join.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for a student that doesn't mind quietness and to be bored a lot. This is great for a student that has a car and that lives near by the campus. Students that love to study and do homework.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Not really anything unusual, at least I don't know of any.

    Bang for the buck

The school overall is a decent place but I wouldn't make it my number one choice. They do provide lots of ways for people to be able to pay of their balances but they are a bit unorganized.

    What to do for fun

Students usually go to the Spartan Spot, an on campus food an sort of recreational chill spot, to have fun. When that closes usually people either go off campus or chill in Watkins lobby.

    Food and Dining

The food is good at first but after a while you get tired of eating the same thing. The cafeteria food is not something that a person wants to eat everyday.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a bit fun, especially being a freshman it is exciting. After the first semester though it gets kind of boring because it is always the same thing. It is a dry campus so it makes it hard to do a lot of things without getting into trouble.

    Academic Rigor

The professors work well with the students overall and they are pretty much understanding to all situations. The school work isn't too hard but it is not something a student should take lightly.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say that if you are looking into this school it is not hard to get into. They accept a lot of people and it can be interesting if you keep yourself engaged. Each and every student should get involved no matter if it is working or joining some sort of club. If a student is not involved then their experience at the University could be a bit boring.

    In three sentences

Aurora University is a small university so it makes it easier to move around and get to know your professors. The people are nice and accepting. The university gives a pretty safe experience due to the amount of campus safety officers they have to look out for the students.

    What to do for fun

The school provides tons of fun things to do on campus such as comedians, plays, musicals, and many more that are all free! The school also offers a wide variety of trips to many locations such as Six Flags and Medieval Times!

    Food and Dining

There are two different ways to eat at the university. There's the cafeteria which provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As well as The Spot, the campus lounge. Both of these provide well balanced meals that are not only delicious but healthy. These locations also cater to any dietary needs. There are also a couple of restaurants around the area to try out!

    Dorm Life

With six different resident halls on campus, dorm life at Aurora University truly does give you the college experience. The rooms are simple and provide the right accommodations during your time at Aurora University. The resident assistants that are on every floor of the halls ensure safety and provide well balanced rules to make sure nothing bad goes on. Bathrooms are very clean by the way!

    Academic Rigor

Academics at Aurora University are considered some of the most important and truly test you so that you become the best you can be. The university definitely sets you on the right path no matter what career you are pursuing.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely look at Aurora University as a potential school to further your education. For what it lacks in size, it makes up for in academics and community. The sport teams also play a very important part role in this school because they push the school spirit to a new level during every game.

    In three sentences

Aurora University could be best described as a close-knit community of students and professors. The small class sizes really let you focus more on the subject at hand. Although some what small the campus size really makes you feel at home, like you really do belong there.

    What to do for fun

You definetly want to be involved in school activities if you don't want to be bored. There are always speakers coming in and they are pretty interesting to listen to. There is also plays and other sorts of activities to go to on a regular basis.

    Food and Dining

Some of the food is okay, I mean its cafeteria food right. My favorite food there is a some kind of veggie soup with crackers. It's really good and pretty cheap.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorm because I am a commuter, but I hear the dorms are actually nice, although I have yet to see them myself.

    Academic Rigor

The school takes education seriously. especially the Nursing Program there. They are very strict in who is accepted because they want to make sure that you will succeed. It wouldn't make sense to graduate a Nurse with a C average or who fails classes graduate right. I know I wouldn't want a nurse who barely made it out of college to take care of me or anyone in my family. If you have a C or below you are put on Academic probation and have to bring your grades up or else some other stuff happens that I am not sure of. It;s not like high school where you can just not do your work or not show up to class because you will fall behind very quickly. I really like that they have tutors for different subjects because you can go with the right person and they know what they are talking about. Even though they are strict academically it is still fun and enjoyable.

    Tips for prospective students

As a new student you should know that you should not be afraid to ask for help or to speak up. Everyone there wants to know what you have to say and is there for your advantage. You should enjoy your time there but also take your work seriously. I also recommend that you join clubs and sports because if you only focus on the academic aspect you might go crazy. It's really easy to make friends because everyone is so friendly and mature.

    In three sentences

Aurora University is a small school but the professors are awesome and you meet really cool people. Everyone that I have come across is very friendly and always have positive things to say to students, even if they don't know them. it is like another small family because you actually get to connect with your professors and get individual help with them almost wnenever

    Academic Rigor

I would give it a four stars. Some classes are tougher than others but if you do struggle they have a strong support system in place.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan for study time, build that into your work week and plan accordingly. Do not take on more classes than you can adequately study for in a given week. You may only be in two evening classes, but they are eight weeks so the study time needs to be factored in.

    Campus Safety

We have our own building for campus safety and several emergency posts around campus. If you feel unsafe go to one of the posts and push the emergency button and campus safety will get to you as fast as possible to make you feel safe. They are always around to help and students can even get a job as s safety cop. If you ever have any concerns or questions they have an emergency number and their building is always open.

    Greek Life

Aurora has several fraternities and sororities, but we do not have housing just meetings and group activities. They also set up a booth at the club fair to get information in order to be initiated.

    Clubs and Activities

The University has its own webpage for clubs to join and to start. We hold a club fair at the beginning of the year to join clubs and get more information on them. We also have intramural sports like dodge ball and bowling.

Great for these types of students

For all of the fitness junky students we have a fitness center that also holds our spin classes. There is also a weight room in the basement of Alumni. For the science lovers we have a hall full of labs. Students who are book worms can find a comfy spot to read in our large library. The artsy students can find an art museum to enjoy in the basement of Dunham. Students who are majoring in education will find that the University has its own school with elementary students to practice their teaching. We have a choir and a band for all the musically talented students out there. Our nursing majors can practice their skills on test dummies. Once you become a student here you will discover much more.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year the campus has a day were everyone does not wear shoes around campus in order to support third world countries that do not have shoes in their everyday life. We also have puppies that come to Dunham hall during finals week to distress students.

    Bang for the buck

The University gives away a lot of free stuff if you are in the right place at the right time. Some mornings they give out free coffee for a certain amount of time at ale carte. The book store has some fair priced college gear and a large variety of it.

    What to do for fun

Aurora sponsors several events like comedians, acapella groups, and the chainsaw juggler from the Geico commercial. The spot is a hang out place with ping pong tables, air hockey, foose ball, computers, and televisions. We have several sports events to cheer at. They have movie nights out on the quad with a huge theatre projector screen.

    Food and Dining

There are three places to eat at the University; the Spot, the cafeteria, and the ale carte. Each place has several healthy choices and you can use your meal plan or regular payment to pay for food. I am only gave a three star rating because if you do not have a meal plan you have to pay just to get in to the cafeteria aside from food. There are also several vending machines

    Dorm Life

The dorms are much larger than the stereotypical cramped living. While living at the University you will not only make good friends with your roommate, but with the whole floor you live on. Aurora also has warm hearted residence assistance that make living on campus feel like home. There is air conditioning and heating in all dorms. During the holidays the hallways are decorated for fun. The campus has reasonable dorm floor quiet hours and the students are respectful of those hours. During finals week quiet hours are extended for study time. During move in day the University has volunteers to help move people in and out of the building. Overall it is a great experience.

    Academic Rigor

At Aurora we have small classes to ensure students can create a relationship with their professors and fellow classmates. This enables a higher academic achievement. It is also important to come to class the first because that is when the professor gives you their syllabus to tell you when tests and homework is do. If you follow the syllabus and study hard, academic success is easily achievable.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a party school then Aurora is not for you, but if you are looking for a school that is involved in sports and community work, Aurora is for you. When it comes to affording college sign up for as many scholarships as you can. Apply for Aurora as soon as possible so that you can get better scholarships, grants, and have a higher chance at getting accepted.

    In three sentences

Aurora is a great college with top notch professors and several opportunities for students to get involved. It is easy to make friends whether a commuting or living on campus. There are several resources for students who are undecided about their major.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do on campus. Honestly if you want to be involved you can be.

    Food and Dining

Compared to other places Aurora actually has really good food, despite what other people say (they just like to complain).

    Academic Rigor

The classes here are not a joke. Though the teachers here are very good they still expect you to be responsible. STUDY!

    Tips for prospective students

The counslers here are extremely helpful, some would say too helpful. Be patient they are making sure you understand whats going on so nothing messes you up.

    In three sentences

Aurora is a very caring community whose only option is for you to succeed. Unlike other colleges they support and encourage you to be excellent in more than one area. Giving you opportunity to explore your talents.

    Bang for the buck

Aurora is a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for. The professors here really care about the students and not just the pay check.

    What to do for fun

Aurora has lots of student activities and organizations.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining is awesome!!!!! I hear a lot of my friends that attend other colleges say the food is terrible, but not at Aurora. Kudos to them!

    Dorm Life

I current reside in New Hall and it's pretty nice. I room with two others so we are sort of cramped. My only compliant is I wish I just had one room mate.

    Academic Rigor

My advice is don't take on more than you think you can handle. College studying is more intense than high school courses and requires a lot of personal attention.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice to prospective students is to attend more than one open house, plus schedule a personal visit where you can have some one on one time with the counselor.

    In three sentences

Aurora is my home away from home. This is my first year here and I absolutely love it. The students to all staff members are just so kind and helpful.

At some point, you will get tired of cafeteria food but luckily you will never get tired of going to the Spartan Spot.

    Dorm Life

Centennial Hall is the best residence hall to live if you are looking for a lot of space.

I suggest prospective students to make sure this is the kind of university they would like to attend, which means they need to do their research.

    What to do for fun

There's not much to do on campus but if you have a car you have the mall and some cute little shops not too far away.

    Food and Dining

The food is okay not the best. The food at times are gross and repetitive. A plus is the campus have another option for food with is the spot. The Spot is unhealthy food though so if you want to eat bad food go here!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are pretty awesome! I live in Centennial hall and its really big and air conditioned but there are halls on campus that are not air conditioned which can be a problem during the summer and fall.

    Academic Rigor

Academically the school exceeded my expectations. The professors really care about how you are doing in class. The staff overall tries to help if you are struggling. The expectations they have of their students is high and they definitely want to keep it that way.

    Tips for prospective students

This college is best for you if you like a small campus and town. There's not much to do on campus or off campus unless you have a car. The campus holds a lot of activities to get the students involved and there lots of fun. For example we had a build a bear day or a build your own fish tank. The classroom environment is excellent, the teachers always find an interesting way to make it fun. The food is not to bad here its a little repetitive and a little gross at times.

    In three sentences

Aurora has a great atmosphere and the students are very helpful. The campus is beautiful year round. The learning environment is excellent and i always have fun in class.

There are all kinds events hovering within the campus. Some groups are created to travel around the world, there clubs that set theatrical events, dance shows, sports events, poetry events, and many many more. It's almost an endless supply of events going on on campus so there's lots to do for fun. It's almost like being downtown of New York or Chicago with all kinds of things going on.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining is fantastic. There are multiple dining areas in each hall of dorms, each set up differently. There are different kinds of food coming to the area almost everyday and you'll have all kinds of choices. It's almost like you have access to the Wild Country Buffet when ever you want. Also if you keep your academics up, you can get different awards in the cafeterias there.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life will make you channel your energy. You will really obtain that energy of a college student. You get exposed and invited to all kinds of events happening on campus and it's a lot of fun for the college experience. It makes it easier to stay accessed to your academics rather than taking a road trip back to your normal residence. It ideally channels the student's energy overall to want to be involved and keep your academics in good shape.

    Academic Rigor

You really develop bonds with your classmates and especially your professors. When you develop a relationship with your adviser, it makes it easier to get access to all kinds of easier ways to succeed in school. With the school being so diverse, you can get exposed to all kinds of different and great ideas, ideas you'd never think would come to your attention. It also makes it fun and interesting to learn. Your also being educated by some of the best professors in America. You're experience and education will be under pretty good hands.

    Campus Safety

Staff and support personnel are dedicated to campus safety.

    Greek Life

    Not very present.

    Clubs and Activities

A plethora of academic and honors societies and organizations and sports teams.

Great for these types of students

Traditional learners (recent high school graduates), ideal for transfer students (who now know what they want from their academic career), and adult learners (who want to finish or come back to earn a degree).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Best tapas and burritos in town across the train tracks near Jericho.

    Bang for the buck

Private schooling is more expensive, but it has been worth every penny so far- and I pay out of my own pocket.

    What to do for fun

Not the best social school, due to small population and residential living. However, there are clubs and organizations to join for academic and social purposes. Also, there is plenty in the close by downtown area for weekends and after school activities.

    Food and Dining

Food options for those who live both on- and off-campus.

    Dorm Life

Never lived in the dorms, but have visited. Very clean and for lack of better description, nice. Not overly spacious, but ideal for a small community of learners.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are difficult and front-loaded. The course work is challenging and there is a lot of it. However, at least in my experience- it prepares you for the reality of your intended major. You do not leave feeling lost or unprepared. I am more confident in my abilities now than ever.

    Tips for prospective students

Research the university right for you and your program. If AU has your program, I recommend to apply and interview here. AU is smaller, but allows the staff to know their students on a more personal level. This helps them support your success as you continue your education. Best decision I ever made.

    In three sentences

Close-knit community of professionals and student learners. Staff supports the students throughout their academic journey. I'm so pleased to have transferred here to finish my degree.
