Great for these types of students

If you want to attend a university, but dislike the thought of being an overlooked 'number' in a crowd of students in a classroom, Austin Peay is a great choice! Classroom sizes are typically smaller, allowing for a more intimate learning experience. Also, if you're a non-traditional adult student, Austin Peay is a great choice. There are several paths you can take to obtain your degree, whether it's your first, second, third, or beyond. Online classes and night classes are very popular. You won't feel intimidated, and there are many other non-traditional students, so you don't worry about feeling out of place. Austin Peay is also a great option for members of the military and military spouses. The main campus is located in Clarksville, about 25 minutes from the Fort Campbell Army Post. There is also a campus located on Fort Campbell. Austin Peay works to accommodate soldiers and their spouses achieve their academic goals. If you’re not yet in the military, but interested, Austin Peay has one of the top ROTC programs in the country. You can learn more at their website: http://www.apsu.edu/rotc/

    Tips for prospective students

If you apply, be sure to submit the separate scholarship application found at this link: https://www.apsu.edu/secure/scholarships/index.htm Any extra money is helpful, trust me! If you're wondering how to say Peay ... you're not alone. It's pronounced like pea. Now, don't be alarmed if you do decide to attend school here, or even if you just make a visit... A common cheer here is let's go PEAY. What other college could say that?

    Bang for the buck

It is one of the least expensive universities in Tennessee, and offers a myriad of scholarships and work study opportunities. You will receive a quality education without breaking the bank. With over 50 majors to choose from, there is a course of study for almost everyone. Some particularly popular majors are nursing, business, theatre, health and human performance, and education. There are also many preprofessional programs for aspiring doctors, dentists, physical therapists, dental hygienists, lawyers, pharmacists, optometrists, veterinarians, etc. And with a state of the art science complex, you can't go wrong at Austin Peay.

    Am enjoying being here

There is something for everyone! There are opportunities for athletes, and intramural sports for those just interested in playing for fun. From bass fishing to swing dancing to wildlife and much more... Austin Peay has several clubs and societies to choose from. There are also a a number of sororities and fraternities that are actively involved on campus. Also, the student government association and student life and leadership works hard to please students' wants and needs. They plan concerts, games, and other activities allowing students to be involved on campus. Austin Peay is small enough to feel like a community, yet large enough so that there's always an opportunity to meet new people.

    Am learning a lot

Members of Austin Peay's faculty are very friendly and helpful. Most professors have an open door policy and are willing to do anything to help their students learn. Also, with the honors program, there are multiple opportunities to build on the basic curriculum through research and additional studies. There are also many opportunities to study abroad in places such as Russia, Asia, London, and several others.

Of you are looking to save a few dollars or you have to take out a student loan and dont want to have to pay for it forever then APSU is your school. If you need a group of friends at all times there are plenty of organizations for you to join or you can just hang out in the plaza area.

    Tips for prospective students

Have a little money saved up for books at least 400 before the semester starts because sometimes refund checks come later then the teacher wants to start working on material

    Bang for the buck

APSU is very affordable if you live in state and are just taking regular classes with no extra fees you need about 4000 a semester to get a nice refund check and get everything paid for. Not all the courses require the newest versions of books or they dont require books at all ,so that helps out alot. The school bookstore is expensive but you can rent books from them for a discounted price at the beginning of every semester. Or you can visit the local bookstore Studymasters and get the same books for even cheaper and campus still approves them. APSU has a lot of activities that students can do for free through out the year mainly in the fall but free is free.

    Am enjoying being here

I love walking around campus I meet a new person everyday. Its not to big but its not to small. Especially when football season starts there is the Mudbowl event where everyone comes and plays vollyball in the mud ALOT of fun and the frat and sor step show in the plaza that hundreds of students attend. APSU is where it is at I have a blast everyday

    Am learning a lot

Right now im taking my core classes. They are really easy its like a review of high school, english is like middle school level. The professors are decent you get some that are young like you and are nice but others are old and want to stick with ALL the rules but they all want to work with you and their common goal is that you graduate, even if they have to meet with you on their off days to make up work some of them will

Great for these types of students

One of the things I say to many friends half-jokingly, is that Austin Peay excels in mediocrity. This is not necessarily a bad thing. The average-ness that I discovered about Austin Peay allows it to appeal to a broad spectrum of students. I have friends who are egg-heads and those who are slackers. Austin Peay is truly great for everybody because of the wide variety of experiences you can obtain here. The school was very recently recognized for being very military friendly but does not neglect its non-affiliated student body. With all the things wrong that I could list about APSU, there is not enough cyber-space to list all reasons why I am eager to recommend my school for anyone everywhere!

    Tips for prospective students

From personal experiences, be very knowledgeable of the bookstore's policies. Last semester I bought a new book that they told me I needed for a certain class. I opened it and started reading before class. In class, the professor said we needed a different book completely. I brought my book back to the bookstore where they initially refused to refund me the money. After many telephone calls, they reluctantly gave the wrong edition of the textbook I needed. I now buy all my books online, while many of my peers use Study Master's. Also, Austin Peay has many outlets for you to succeed. If you have a learning disability or are a student with a different disability, register immediately with the Office of Disability Services. Austin Peay also offers a free tutoring service program so if you need a little extra help in a course, do not hesitate to make your tuition dollars work for you. Another great place is the Counseling Services. If ever you have a personal issue that you need to talk about, they are the place to go. The cost is also covered in tuition. If you get ill, Austin Peay also has a great health services staff to help you get back to health.

    Bang for the buck

While Austin Peay's tuition and fees seem low at first, they can add up if you're not careful. If you decide to live on campus, you have to buy a meal plan. The cafeteria's food options are usually delicious and varied. The best housing is at Hand Village. The apartments are 4 single rooms, two bathrooms, and a living space. Unfortunately, they removed the stove tops from the kitchenettes. Getting off of work late at night, I am sometimes unable to find a place to park. Overall, Austin Peay is a pretty good deal financially.

    Am enjoying being here

I definitely enjoy being at Austin Peay. It was the first institution to which I applied. It has a beautiful park like campus with scenic sidewalks taking you from one class to another. Besides the many campus clubs and activities, Clarksville itself offers an array of interesting things to get into. A short walk from campus is the River Walk which host such events as River and Spires and beautiful lights during the Holidays. Also Clarksville has most of the big time franchises throughout within its boarders. Conveniently less than an hour away is the state's capital Nashville which offers nearly every metropolitan amenity you desire.

    Am learning a lot

Learning is the main focus at Austin Peay. In the two years that I have been here, I have learned more from the life experiences that are thrown at you, then from the teachers or text books. I am not a Business major, but Austin Peay has taught me that the quantity is worth more than quality. Recently the university celebrated teaching 10,000 students, but many students have trouble finding places to park and often the cafeteria is over-crowded. But, Austin Peay does offer several venues of learning outside of class with events like Bread and Words and International Night. So I'd say I am learning more than I could have ever imagined here at APSU!

Great for these types of students

I see students of all types here and they all can succeed. You just have to not be afraid of asking for help when you know that you need it. There are resources to help with just about any problem that you may have.

    Tips for prospective students

Turn in your application as early as possible. Fill out financial aid forms as fast as possible, the money does run out. If possible live on campus, it makes the early class that you are likely to have to get a lot easier, if you don't have to get up extra early to drive to school. If you must drive arrive sometime between 6:30-7:10 for morning classes, and 12:30-1:10 for afternoon classes if want a decent parking spot. If you have a dorm room that is kind of out of the way, or if you are a commuter student I would try to get a locker, there are some lockers on the first floor of the MUC and there are some for Art students in Trahern. There may be more but I don't know where they are.

    Bang for the buck

Austin Peay is less expensive than most other 4 year colleges, plus you get to ride any city bus for free, if you live in the dorms, you have access to a free laundry room, the library is HUGE, and there is always something going on. Overall it is deffinantly a great deal.

    Am enjoying being here

The area and people in it are great. The campus looks big, but you can easily walk from one side to the other in 10 minutes or less, and if you don't want to walk the Peay Pickup goes around every 15 or 20 minutes and it is free with your student I.D. and Peay Pickup card you get at the begining of the semester. Since coming here I have not meet anyone I didn't like or that wasn't friendly.

    Am learning a lot

If you go to class and work along in your book, you will do well in most classes. Be sure that you know how to work well in a group, and DON'T PROCRASTINATE. If there is an emergency most professors will understand and will work with you to succed. None of the Professors want you to fail and if you don't understand something just ask, or go to their office when they have their scheduled office time, if they can't help you they will help you find someone who can. If you do these things and want to learn you will.

Great for these types of students

I am an art major so my classroom hours are longer than most as it is because they are “studio hours” since well, you stay and work in the classroom on your piece. Because APSU isn’t huge like other universities classroom sizes are pretty small, so you can have a better relationship with your professor. This was especially useful in my arts classes, since my professors were right there to help me with my projects, show me what I could do to fix something, or even show me a technique to make something a bit easier to do. I also got the opportunity to work with a few professors that I didn’t have a class with his past semester. Kell Black was sort of substituting for my electronic imaging class with Emily Stiegler one day, and was so helpful with my animation. He even found me later working one night and let me borrow this really neat cartoon animations book to take notes from and photo-copy for later reference!

    Tips for prospective students

Most all of the professors are pretty understanding, and all have e-mails which is a great way to keep in touch with them if something comes up or if you need help with an assignment. There is also a website that professors use called Determined 2 Learn or D2L; and on this website professors can post assignments, how to guides, links to helpful websites, hold discussions on a forum, create a space for you to submit your work, and even set up a chat room for you to talk to your other classmates with. It’s a pretty neat site, though only one of my teachers used it this past semester. I say to learn to like coffee. If you’re a good student, you will be up studying all night or finishing a paper at some point. I recommend going to Einstein’s, a coffee shop there at APSU, it is open late! Good luck everyone and don’t let the stress of learning to be an adult get to you! ?

    Bang for the buck

The meal plans offered are really nice, and they have an equivalence system set up so that you can eat at other restaurants around campus with your meal plan without using up your “plus dollars” or extra food money. For example, you get a value of 3.50 for breakfast that you can use as a meal at another restaurant if you get tired of the cafeteria; and depending on your plan you can have a different amount of meals a week. I only have ten meals a week, but you can have up to 19! A lot, eh? The cafeteria has an all-you-can-eat buffet styled system, and is open from 7am to 7pm almost every day. It opens late on the weekends; and you’d better remember that or you’re going to be confused and hungry! But do watch what you eat! Because the cafe is all-you-can-eat you can gain a lot of weight quick! So be mindful of what you eat, ok? And since your tuition pays for it, make a stop by the Foy, or the fitness cener located on campus. Working out keeps your body and mind healthy...and you can avoid that freshman 15!

    Am enjoying being here

For those interested in Austin Peay, I would definitely recommend it. It isn’t too big, and it’s quite comfy—a good place to stay for those serious about school. APSU, like most other universities, require that you stay on campus during your first year of college. Which isn’t too much of a problem, the dorms are pretty nice for being a bit old. The dorm I’m staying in—Killebrew—is a very nice size; you have to share your room with one other person (of your gender of course!) and your small bathroom with the two people beside you. So, you have a roommate and two suitemates! A good relationship with them comes in handy when you get locked out of your room, haha~ The dorms also have a free laundry service offered in the bottom floor of the building; you of course have to get your own detergent and softener, but you don’t have to pay to use the washers and dryers. Just remember when you put your things in or they’ll end up on the floor later! And never do your laundry on Sundays, that’s when everyone gets in from the weekend thus everyone decides to do their laundry.

    Am learning a lot

Your class load varies on how many “hours” you sign up for—your credit hours just count how many hours a week that you will be in class. I took 17 credit hours this past semester, which is really close to a heavy load; most people only take 12 or 13 which is the average amount you must take to be a full time student (and keep your HOPE scholarship). I can tell you from experience though; if you take this many hours you have to stay serious about school! No partying, no staying out late or up late on the internet, and do not procrastinate! I had to do six projects in three days before finals! And I have learned from this to do my projects early—maybe as soon as they are assigned.

    Campus Safety

APSU has one of the safest campuses in Tennessee. With its own police force, APSU keeps it's students safe and takes care of them.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is always active around campus. Through charities and helping to improve campus gives APSU a good name for Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a variety of clubs and activities for everyone on campus. If there is an activity that does not have a club, any student can create one through a rather simple process.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

For the smokers out there, there used to be several smoking huts around campus before the SGA passed the Smoke-free campus rule. Now there is only one and it is a place of acceptance and relaxation in between classes and before or after classes. We call it Byzantium.

    Bang for the buck

For in-state students, it's the cheapest place in Tennessee to attend. I believe it has the most open and accepting faculty and staff.

    What to do for fun

For fun, there is plenty to do. The recreation center is a great place to just hang out with friends or workout with a game of basketball or even take an aerobic dance class.

    Food and Dining

I give Food and Dining 3 stars not becuase the food isn't great (because it is), but because their avaiability is not ideal for students.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is the best part of APSU. It gives the student the freedom from home, yet there are still rules and consequences to abide by.

    Academic Rigor

I would give APSU 4 stars just because they do not have any and all majors a person could want. Although, they provide a way to create you own degree by double majoring or double minoring.

    Tips for prospective students

AS a prospective student, APSU is a simple place to focus on your studies but still have fun and enjoy the town.

    In three sentences

I love APSU. It may be my hometown college but it keeps me focused. I'm not trying to explore a new city or find out where the night-life is.

    rarely anything happened.

    Clubs and Activities

The had concerts and events I felt were interesting.

Great for these types of students

People who want basic careers such as doctors, lawyers, and scientists.

    What to do for fun

I don't know. They usually had activities listed on their website.

    Food and Dining

I agreed with the meal plan except for the fact that they set rules on how to spend your meal plans even though you paid for it.

    Dorm Life

It was okay except for the fact I had to clean up after grown men.

    Academic Rigor

Most teachers gave me work that conflicted my other classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Do research on the school before applying.

    In three sentences

It's okay, but I don't like the fact I didn't get any scholarships and they didn't tell my why. I also didn't like the fact I had to find out how to do everything on my own. I also didn't agree with the syllabus criterias.

A really big deal breaker for me was the size of the school. It is a pretty small school, so classes are intimate and you can get to know your teacher and even faculty/staff around campus. But it's not too small to where you are bored out of your mind and meet everyone in the first month. I continued to see new faces throughout the entire year. I personally think it is a great school for just about anyone. The only exception I can think of is if you are coming from a really big city, you may not fully enjoy yourself. Clarksville is relatively small, not cows-on-a-farm small, but still. So if you're coming from Chicago where there's a booming city, you may not enjoy it. But anyone else, come on! :]

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to get involved! School will suck if you aren't involved in extracurricular activities. There is always something going on and if you attend these functions and join these clubs, you won't have a problem meeting new people and truly enjoying yourself. And on a serious note: You are an adult now, so be responsible. It's great to have fun, but procrastination will catch up to you so just be wise with your scheduling. :]

    Bang for the buck

I am most definitely getting a quality education and at a good price. I am in-state, so I'm not really sure how that would be for out-of-state students. But I know for a fact that AP is well priced.

    Am enjoying being here

I definitely am enjoying my time at Austin Peay. I have so much fun on campus and have met some amazing people. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with all of the different campus organizations, sports teams, sororities, fraternities as well as other extracurricular activities. There is always something to do and I really love it.

    Am learning a lot

I really am enjoying my classes. I have had very good teachers and very good experiences in my classes. I went to a very academically challenging high school, so I am not challenged beyond belief here, which is very good. I feel that it is a good amount of work and gets challenging at times, but you have to be wise and manage your time.

Austin Peay is boring but I blame Clarksville for that problem. If you join some type of Organization or Sport then that will take away from the boring. Austin Peay is a great place for people who are open minded, easy going, focused on getting their degree, or try to better themselves. It is a place for everyone and everything.

    Tips for prospective students

Use every bit of resource you have. If you need tutoring it is free. If you know you are lazy do not pick a dorm that is the farthest way from the campus. Pick a schedule you know you are comfortable with.

    Bang for the buck

Your tuition is used to make you happy. If you rather live in a different dorm then the one you are living in now you can change dorms. If you want a better meal plan you can change that as well. There are several computer labs and the library has everything you need. There's even a stake and shrimp night every semester. There are televisions in the area and a coffee place as well. You pay for a beautiful place to study and gain knowledge.

    Am enjoying being here

I love every minute here on campus. There is something to do every other day. There are so many organizations that you can be apart of.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers stress the importance of learning the material. They want to help you in every way. They will answer questions during class, after class, and spend a couple of extra hours after their set officer hours to help you. The classes are not that big so they know who you are and will adjust their teaching styles to better help you understand the material.

    Tips for prospective students

STAY AWAY. Unless you want to be around stuck up people. Not a friendly campus at all trust me. If you are from out of state like me then choose another university. But I know your thinking its about the education yea your right but here its not good from my experience.

honestly, everyone! we have an amazingly diverse campus filled with a diverse population of students!

    Tips for prospective students

it's a nice sized campus where you can walk to any class in five minutes or less. the books aren't too expensive, but if you have to pay out of pocket, try amazon or ebay. buying from the bookstore gets a touch pricey. oh! and never take sociology and psychology at the same time (same terminology, different meanings!).

definitely a thorough education for less! well worth it, though if you take statistics, be sure to get your book from the bookstore on campus as it's actually cheeper. o_o i learned that the hard way last semester. also, make sure you sniff out your professors before taking their classes, i suggest ratemyprofessor.com, after all, a good professor can affect whether you leave the class with an a or d!

    Academic Rigor

the professor's teaching styles run the gamut when it comes to their methods. as long as you put forth the effort to stay on top of your work load, the material is easy and the classes engaging. free plug: if you need to take intro to sociology, i suggest taking dr flower. she's a ball of fun and loves teaching an interactive class, while the actual work load is restricted to a few in class projects, pop quizzes, scheduled online quizzes straight from the book, and exams.

Great for these types of students

APSU is great for ALL students.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! I don't even start until August 29th and I am already an active part of three organizations here on campus! You won't get the full experience unless you're involved.

    Bang for the buck

It is definitely worth the money you pay. In fact, I am going to be going to school my first year, entirely free of charge because of scholarships, so not only is worth your money, there are plenty of opportunities to earn your keep too!

    Will enjoy being here

Austin Peay has a great campus and a wonderful variety of Student Organizations to be involoved in!

    Will learn a lot

With the variety of classes at APSU, there is now way I couldn't learn a lot!

    Campus Safety

YOU ARE NEVER ALONE!! Campus security is always a wave away or a phone call away. There are also security booths on campus to run to whenever you need to call them quick. So no fear security is always here.

    Greek Life

Greek life I am not apart of ...yet lol. I love watching all the shows they put on for the students and they are always coming up with fundraisers for the schools and volunteering events to sing up for.

    Clubs and Activities

They have a lot things you can get into. All you have to do is look at the bulletin board around campus.

Great for these types of students

Great for the type of students who are focused towards their goals. Again it is not a party school at all.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The unusual tradition I saw was the 'Mud Bowl.' You make teams with you friends and play football in the mud, It was so much fun to play and entertaining to watch others slip and slide.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is so CHEAP so if your in a bind, it is ideal for you. the tuition may be cheap but the teachers teach you as if you are at Vanderbilt University. They won't make it easy for you, you have to put the effort in.

    What to do for fun

This school does have a lot of talent shows to enter into. Concerts are always happening from celebrity musicians, dance clubs, organizations, step shows... you name it, it's here.

    Food and Dining

Love Love Love the variety of foods you can choose from.

    Dorm Life

This school will have peace and quiet for your studies and the dorms are very nice to live in. I live in Meacham and I enjoy my stay here. Very spacious, it's like a mini apartment.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are there when you need them and if they can't be there, the school has tutors available at your whim.

    Tips for prospective students

I would research and make sure that this small campus/ city is right for them. It's not a party school so if you're looking for fun and all of that it's here, but it's a 'buckle-down' in your books type of school. Great avenues to grow with study abroad and so many other groups and organizations.

    In three sentences

Austin Peay is a school where you have every resource to learn and grow more, A lot of programs are there to help you out in all ways. I feel like I have a grown as an individual here, not just in my education.

Great for these types of students

I am a very shy person, but being at APSU has helped me come out of my shell. The campus is small which truly fitted what I was looking for. I am acknowledged as a person at APSU and not just another student. I am part of a wonderful community, from the professors to the advisors to the students. I cannot say enough good things about APSU. So I think if you are looking for a smaller college with a lot to offer, then APSU should be your selection.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to an open-house, take a tour of the campus, meet the professors and other students while visiting. Be fully informed on every aspect APSU has to offer. Get involved, because you will realize that you are not alone. It's hard leaving home after high school, because college is a totally different world. APSU offers a special class for freshmen to help you become acclimated with campus life. They are there you help you everything step of the way. Get involved -- this is your future, and take it as high as you can.

    Bang for the buck

Even though funding today's education is hard for anyone. Like any college APSU has its set dollar amounts, but they have helped me in ways I cannot express by working with my family regarding fees. If it wasn't for the support of my family and APSU, I don't know where I would be today. So Bang for the buck -- APSU is right on target.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying the people that I am meeting that come from all different walks of life. APSU has a lot to offer incoming freshmen especially during your freshmen orientation. There is always something happening on campus from concerts, to games to family weekends (which my little sister truly enjoyed attending).

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot about myself. Things that I thought I could never do, I am now doing at APSU, with help from my peers, advisors and professors. I am learning how to reach and achieve my goals at my full potential. I am learning how to be independant, and realizing my voice does count.

apsu has the ap police. the ap police are everywhere you look. there are also help buttons around campus that are pretty close together. there is a very small crime rate at apsu.

Great for these types of students

apsu is perfect for determined students who are willing to truly learn and not hope to walk away with a degree.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there is a mudbowl every year. where groups or sororities or fraternities come together as a team and play games in the mud.

    Bang for the buck

as long as you put forth the effort in a class, you will learn as much as if you were in an ivy league school, for 1/4 of the cost. the classes can go very in depth and the teachers are extremely knowledgeable.

    What to do for fun

there are tons of organizations and fun things to take place in. there are always fun people to meet and the close-by down town area is wonderful and full of things to do.

    Food and Dining

the cafe has an all you can eat, as close to homemade and southern as you can get, buffet for all three meals. the other places to get food are scattered in other buildings. there are kiosks and coffee shops. we have a chic-fil-a, papa johns, subway and are about to open our starbucks in our library.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are nice and clean. there are a new set of dorms that were put in at the beginning of the fall 2011 semester and they are very nice. apsu is in the process of tearing down the older dorms and putting in newer ones. there are also many different dormitories to choose from both directly on campus and some right behind it.

    Academic Rigor

classes require a lot of time and effort put into them. students should spend double the credit hours outside of class studying or working on anything to help further comprehend the material. all professors are willing to take the time to explain something that you may not understand.

    Tips for prospective students

students wishing to attend apsu should see if their major is offered and see if there are any better options are available. apsu is well known for its nursing program (which is extremely prestigious and difficult to get in to), any science major is well regarded in the country, and it also has a very good education program. if you're looking for a party school and are not a serious student, i would suggest a different school.

    In three sentences

austin peay state university is focused on helping their students succeed in everything they do. the staff is friendly and always helpful with any question, concern, or problem. the students are willing to help others and are at the school to work and earn a degree, not just to party and have a good time.

because the campus is small, i personally feel that campus police are able to survey the grounds in a more efficient manner. apsu has an alert system that you can sign up for on your phone that keeps you informed. also, campus security will provide chaperones should you have late classes and do not want to walk across the campus my yourself. give them a call and they are right there to escort to your dorm.

Great for these types of students

someone who wants a small campus environment that has a community field to it.

apsu offers a lot of activities to do on campus from attending campus sports games, to frat parties, to concerts, to cultural events. we had the writer of the soloist come and speak at our cultural center which was very interesting.

Campus Safety is on point. Blue poles are located sparatically throughout campus and from one you can easily see another in sight. Hitting the button on these poles automatically connects you with campus police and can give them your location. Campus police are always easy to find when needed. At any time, day or night, they are only a phone call away. Especially good for an escort after those late night study sessions at the library. Overall APSU is a safe campus without much trouble but it never hurts to be cautious and aware of your surroundings. Campus Police make sure students feel safe

    What to do for fun

APSU is centered right in the middle of Clarksville, Tennessee. There is always something fun going on on campus such as plays, musical functions, game/movie nights, concerts, intermural sports, etc. Off campus Clarksville offers lots of shopping, movie theatres, lots of great restaurants, and a good selection of local nightlife.

    Food and Dining

Food here, like with any college campus, isn't the cheapest. (Hello?! Broke college kids!) Various types of meal plans are offered however to help with such. If you live on campus it is required you have a meal plan. On a positive note, the variety of food choices here is fantastic. Late night junk food, healthy choices, organic, pizza, fast food, coffee shops, bagels, whatever! There is something for everyone. Plus there is lots of room to hang out and socialize with friends while eating. Tvs and pool tables are around too!

    Dorm Life

First Time Indepence!! APSU currently has two brand new dorms and is building three more to open soon!!! The new dorms are much safer with ID cards to scan your way in, instead of using keys that can be easily lost, or locks that can be picked. No curfews, just know that you are independent now but that means being responsible. Dorms, new and old, are kept in good condition. Cleanliness inside and out is important.

    Academic Rigor

Austin Peay offers a wide range of tutors in all subjects at various times during the week to help you succeed. Taking advantage of these tutors are imperitive! College is supposed to challenge you and work you harder and Austin Peay does just that. Prefer to study alone? The library stays open til the wee hours of the morning and has plenty of quiet zones for those who like it to be extremely silent. APSU wants their students to succeed and that shows in what they provide to their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be intimidated! At first a big college can seem scary and make you feel like a small fish in a sea of whales. Myself being a shy person, I hesitated to get involved and my networking skills weren't up to par. Once you get over that hurdle, you will realize everyone is just like you. Don't be afraid to ask for help and utilize the tools made available to you. The university is here for YOU!

    In three sentences

Coming from a somewhat small town, Austin Peay State University is the perfect college for me. Not wanting anything too big or too small, Austin Peay is right in the middle with lots of opportunities to offer. A wide range of majors and activities socially and academically at times convenient for everyone, Austin Peay works hard to fulfill everyone's college expectations.

There are many options at APSU including the APSU cafe, Subway, Starbucks, and Einstein Bros. Bagels not to mention the various restaurants nearby such as Red Lobster, Steak and Shake, and Longhorns.

At any hour of the day, you can get a police escort back to your dorm, to your car, or anywhere around campus if you feel uncomfortable walking alone. I have never felt unsafe at APSU though.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs. Anyone can easily find a club that they can fit in or even start their own.

    Bang for the buck

APSU is inexpensive compared to other similar universities.

    What to do for fun

APSU always has student life events around campus. There's tennis courts, a pool, a recreation center, and much more!

    Food and Dining

Just like any university, the cafeteria food is not always delicious, but it's better than some of the other cafeteria food I've had at other colleges. Plus, there's a starbucks in the library, a subway in the middle of campus, and several other food chains next to the cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

There are several different style dorms to chose from at APSU. More dorm buildings are currently being built. I'm staying in Harvill Hall, which is the honors dorm. It has two to a room with a bathroom that connects to another dorm room. There are only two floors, so it is a smaller, older housing building.

    Academic Rigor

APSU will challenge you academically, just like any other university. By the time you earn your degree, you will feel comfortable entering into your desired job field.

    Tips for prospective students

There are blue post with emergency buttons inside all around campus which you can call for help from, but they also have a security number you can call if you need somone to walk you to your car if you stayed late at the library or anything like that.

    What to do for fun

There is always something to do at APSU. Foam parties, mudd bowl, just tons of fun things.

    Food and Dining

No matter what your in th.e mood for you can always find it ether on campus or really close by so you never run out of options

    Dorm Life

Although I do not live in a dorm because I live close enough to stay at home I have heard nothing but amazing things about the dorms. APSU recently build all new freshman dorms which are awesome inside and out.

    Academic Rigor

I have yet to meet a Professor that hasnt amazed me with their knowlede of the sunject they are teaching.

    Tips for prospective students

Always register early because although this University isnt huge the classes go fast, expecially with the Professors everyone wants. Howver, if you make sure to stay on top of registration you should get the classes you want.

    In three sentences

I love everything about APSU! The campus is small enough so you can get from one class to another without having to drive anywhere but is also big enough to offer everything you could need. I have had amazing professors who are always willing to help you. Most classes are small and even the classes that are considered large at apsu are small compared to other major university's.

    Bang for the buck

Austin Peay State University is a great school, professors want you to do well and there's all kinds of help you can seek and people in place to help you out.

    What to do for fun

There's many events the student engagement life does that keeps students active and it's very helpful for incoming freshman who don't really know a lot of people.

    Food and Dining

If you have a meal plan there's a great variety of food you can buy.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are expensive and there has been an issue of over population which in turn places some incoming students in temporary housing.

    Academic Rigor

Academics are strong at Austin Peay and theres a lot of help and tutuoring available for students who are struggling in their courses.

    Campus Safety

Campus Police are very friendly and they respond to calls quickly and without question. They're happy to walk you to your car, for example. There are few incidents on campus, and those that do occur are all listed in the school newspaper. In addition, students receive text alerts and emails if there is a situation that may pose any danger to students. These are usually severe weather alerts, but they can also be a warning of an assault on campus (such as an attempted rape last semester). These are RARE, I must stress. But the school does let students know what they need to know.

    Greek Life

There are a few Greek organizations, and they have a definite presence on campus. I'm not involved with them, however.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for nearly every student. There are multiple religious organizations, political organizations, service organizations, and academic organizations for every point of view. Something I found to be remarkable was the fact that the organizations all get along for the most part. The Baptist Collegiate Ministry doesn't have wars with the Secular Humanists. The College Democrats don't have wars with the College Republicans. Everyone is respectful of each other, and that is amazing.

Great for these types of students

I'm a shy person and I don't make friends easily. At APSU, I couldn't help but make many friends. There are so many things to do on such a relatively cozy campus. Austin Peay is great for anyone who wants a full university experience without spending a lot of money or getting lost in a crowd.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

APSU students can't help but notice all the squirrels on campus. They aren't very afraid of people, and they bring a sense of life and wonder to the school. Sometimes you can see people watching the squirrels.

    Bang for the buck

APSU is one of the cheapest schools in Tennessee. That's why I chose it, and that's why many others did as well. However, it doesn't feel like a cheap school. The place is very well-maintained and grows steadily. You DEFINITELY get your money's worth at Austin Peay.

    What to do for fun

You can get involved in student organizations, or just meet friends at local bars and restaurants. There is a lot in Clarksville that caters to the college crowd. Many people smoke at the Hookah bar, or get frozen yogurt. Pizza places are popular, as well as dance clubs. If you're looking for something more, Nashville is only about an hour away.

    Food and Dining

The dining services are what one might expect at such an institution. There is a lot of variety on campus at most times, but that variety doesn't change much. We have a food court with a BBQ place, Papa Johns, Chick-fil-A, a burger place, and Mexican food. There is also a Subway, a Starbucks, and Einstein's Bagels on campus. The main star, of course, is the cafeteria. They rotate the menu, but they don't have a huge variety. The taste of the food is often hit-or-miss.

    Dorm Life

There are a nice variety of dorms, from traditional dorms to fancy apartments. They are very close to where classes are held, and the housing staff are helpful and well-trained. In addition to the RA's, each hall has a hall council, which plans activities for the students who live in the hall. Lots of free stuff is given away, and the events are a great way to socialize.

    Academic Rigor

Austin Peay is a university, and the classes are much harder than high school. However, don't feel like you can't be a good student here! The teachers are understanding and there are many resources for you if you're struggling!

    Tips for prospective students

APSU has clubs for every student and every interest. One can find great friends by attending meetings and getting involved. Most of the student organizations can be stepping stones to later success after graduation! In addition, I encourage you to take advantage of the services that are offered. Use the clinic when you are sick! Go to tutoring if you're having trouble in your studies! Go to counseling services if you need help with personal issues! You're paying for them already, so you might as well use them. Finally, don't just skate by and take just classes you need to graduate. You can become a better, more well-rounded person by studying something you are interested in. I encourage you to also study abroad! Study abroad will change your life.

    In three sentences

APSU is the best of both worlds. It is a college that provides the services of a university, yet retains the intimate atmosphere of a community college. This school is perfect for anyone looking for the best college experience.

    Campus Safety

We have one of the safest campuses in the United States. We have our own police department, which will escort people to their cars if they don't feel safe, and regularly patrol the campus.

    Greek Life

We have over 30 Greek organizations.

    Clubs and Activities

We have college republicans and democrats, Gay Straight Alliance, multiple fraternities and sororities, Student Government Association, the History Club, the Galois Math Club, Pre-Law Society, Student Art League, Student Nurses Association, Sociology Club, Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM), Wildlife Society, Child Welfare Club, Creative Writing Club, Latin and Ballroom dance club, Harry Potter Club, Mud Club (Pottery), Wrestling club, Voices of Praise, Lacrosse Club, etc.

    Bang for the buck

If you are a resident of Tennessee, your tuition is cut by 2/3. You end up paying about $300 per credit hour. Most activities on campus are free. Included in tuition is access to the library, free rides on the APSU transit system, which goes all over downtown Clarksville, free access to the campus' gym, free check-ups at the on-campus pharmacy, and discounts on adventure trips.

    What to do for fun

There are so many campus activities! There are tons of concerts, which are almost always free to students. The theatre department puts on about two productions a year. The University Choir, ensembles, and orchestra preforms a few times a year. The Govs Programming Council hosts movie nights, open-mic nights, performances by famous singers and bands, and the annual AP Apollo Talent Show, which is open to students. There are many concerts by world-renowned orchestras, ensembles, and instrumental quartets. APSU holds the Mud Bowl, which is a volleyball tournament played in a mud pit. There are numerous lectures on a wide range of subjects. Individual clubs and organizations host parties, movie nights, and weekly meetings.

    Food and Dining

The food is delicious! You can pay with cash or your chosen payment plan. There is a Starbucks conveniently located in the library and (never fear!) there are vending machines in almost every building! The cafeteria is the best, though. You can pay one price and get as much food as you want.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorm. However, there are new facilities being built, and I took a tour of some of the ones built last year. They are very nice--clean and spacious!

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to check the professors' ratings on ratemyprofessor.com. While all the teachers are great, in my opinion, some can rub people the wrong way. However, don't take what people say as absolute law. Some reviews are just complaints that they actually had to work for a grade! Austin Peay also has a limited number of degree programs, so research that before you come. Academic advising is free to students and is very helpful!

There are emergency lights throughout campus that you can push and an officer will be there within the minute. The APSU police provide transportation to your car or dorm when it is dark for free. Biggest crime on campus is theft, be sure to lock your vehicles and keep valuables out of sight. The officers maintain their presence on campus, which I think lowers the crime rate.

    Clubs and Activities

Numerous to choose from, including Greek and academic organizations.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

APSU has a fun little event every year at the end of homecoming week called Mud Bowl. They make a mud pit on campus, and teams of students play either volleyball or tug-o-war in the mud. We also do Polar Plunge in January. President Hall is known to jump in with students in his suit and tie. Sign up early if you want a t-shirt, they go fast.

    Bang for the buck

Compare book prices before buying books. You are not required to buy books from the campus bookstore.

    What to do for fun

Student Life and Engagement is good at having movie nights on campus. When it is warm out, the Foy (the gym) has dive-in movies. Many of the organizations on campus have their own things they do, and most nights there are several things to choose from depending on what interests you. The art and theater departments have shows periodically throughout the academic year. Intramural sports are pretty popular as well. Football games are alright, but the basketball team draws the biggest crowds. Your student ID gets you in free. Show up early, the Dunn fills up quick.

    Food and Dining

There are a few options to eat on campus, and it is all good. My favorite is the APSU Cafe, which serves food in a buffet-style. They do tend to serve the same thing after a while, which is why I gave it 4 stars. They have themed lunches and dinners. Make sure to not miss Thanksgiving or Christmas lunch, it is some of the best food they serve all year. My favorite dinners are breakfast for dinner and steak and shrimp night. Be sure to show up early on steak and shrimp night, it is very popular.

    Dorm Life

I love living on campus. The dorms are safe, only residents can get in since you have to swipe your student ID to get into the building. Maintenance problems are fixed quickly, often within the same day if you call in early enough. The RAs are extremely helpful and many are my personal friends. The biggest problem most of the time is noise, but if you talk to your roommates, it should not be a problem once an agreement is reached.

    Academic Rigor

This is the only college I've been to, so I don't really have anything to compare to, but I do think that they are some very challenging classes here. You will get the grade that you deserve, so if you want an A, be sure to work hard. Go to class, it really does make a impression on your professor.

    Tips for prospective students

I live on campus, so parking is not a problem for me, but if you are commuting, be sure to give yourself extra time to find a parking spot on campus. Be sure to submit your FAFSA early if you are planning on getting a work-study placement. Watch dates to be sure that your classes are not dropped. Stay in contact with your professors since they offer invaluable advice about classes.

    In three sentences

This is a great college to attend. The campus is gorgeous, all of the professors that I have had are really helpful, and class sizes are small. I feel very safe on campus.

APSU is a great school, but the financial aid and admissions staff can be a bit forgetful. Just stay on top of your paperwork and make sure it gets through on time. The campus tours are great to learn what is where, and make sure to go to the Summer Welcomes before you begin in the fall. There is often a lot of cool events or free food somewhere on the campus so watch your emails and see what's going on. Also, the cafeteria food is a LOT cheaper than the franchises on campus and it is often very good. Get a meal plan, it is great.

    In three sentences

APSU is a small but well rounded school. It will not win any awards for the best academic achievements, football team, or campus quality. However, the cost is low and the professors are more often than not amazing, so it is a great choice for any undergraduate.

Great for these types of students

I came in wanting to attend a school that I knew wasn't so big that I was just a number to m professor, but also not so small that I would run into the same exact people over and over again. APSU is exactly the right size. I've only had couple classes larger than 30 students and that's because it's a humanities course and tons of people need those classes for their core. If you're looking for courses that are challenging and fun, then you'll find those here. Also, if you want to find a campus that is big on getting involved with the campus itself as well as the community, you'll be right at home here on our campus.

    What to do for fun

Get invovled with campus organiations and clubs! Make friends, and living in Clarksville won't seem so boring!

    Food and Dining

There's options all around campus and for the most part I enjoy the food that they provide for us. Having the AP Mobile app definitely helps me make my decision about where to eat that day for specific meals. Subway is a crowd favorite, so be prepared for long lines during parts of the day and night.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is good here. I feel completely safe within the dorms and know that the RA's are doing the best they can. Also, it gives you a sense of freedom while away from home, and that's always nice; especially when you're coming in as a Freshman. Making friends with people within your dorm also makes it a lot more enjoyable to live on campus. And it's so convenient... I don't even mind that I walk everywhere... It keeps me outta the gym since I feel like I get enough exercise throughout the week (:

    Tips for prospective students

Come into the first year prepared to have to have your priorities in order. Things can sometimes get little hectic, and you want to make sure that your studies are not being neglected due to that! Have fun during the first couple of weeks, but make sure that you take time for your studies as well! Also, don't let the long time between deadlines fool you, they will come up quicker than you think, start now! And ts okay if you don' know what you want to do quite yet with your life, this is what college is here for!

    In three sentences

APSU is a four-star university. The professors (mostly) care about their students, are willing to work with you, and genuinely want to see you succeed. Campus life is full of activities, and while things could be better, I wouldn't trade my time here for anything.
