College of Art and Sciences Majors People looking for a diverse school Students wanting to get involved

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research for every school. Read the student handbooks so you can learn everything that the schools offer (i.e clubs and organizations) Make sure you go for a visit and do not just go by what they tell you ask other students. Register early so you can get the classes you want Determine if you are willing to sacrifice some fun for a good eduction

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your moneys worth when it comes to the education and equipment provided for your major. You are able to rent equipment and the bonus is this is one of the few schools where you do not have to pay for laundry! That is always a plus.

    Am enjoying being here

Barry is a school where there are school sponsored events. There are plenty of dances and the student activities Departments take you on trips everywhere and most of them are free. This school is in a very isolated area so you have to make your fun.

    Am learning a lot

This School excels in every program that they provide. Barry makes sure that you learn everything that you need to learn that will help you in future classes and in your career. Teachers are always there to help you and they allow questions at anytime. I am a Photography major and the teachers in this field help and give constructive criticism. As with all majors the faculty is very helpful.

Great for these types of students

This school is very good for students who are serious about their career, because Barry offers lots of options and you will get the best learning one on one as you would not just get anywhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going for sports a great place to get noticed. You will have a wonderful time on campus, it is so nice there.

    Bang for the buck

Well Barry is very expensive, but the learning experience you will get there is well worth what you pay to go there.

    Am enjoying being here

I play baseball at Barry also, have meet allot of new people from everywhere. My experience has been really great there.

    Am learning a lot

You really get allot of one on one time with the teachers. The class rooms are smaller and just a better learning experience.

Great for these types of students

For students wanting to be in the medical field, broadcasting field, arts, or business field. For students that like to network, and meet people from all over. For students that want to be part of a community, who really want to belong. For students that really like extracurricular activities, like those in the entertainment field. For students that like to work hard. For students that like to have fun. For students who want to be great. For students who want their dreams to become a reality.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to have a lot of fun because the school has a lot of extracurricular activities to do, whether it be intramural sports, modeling, modern dancing, or trying out for the step team. Also go to class everyday, do your work on time, and essays ahead of time so you won't really have to worry about finals, and to party.

    Bang for the buck

The school is pretty expensive yet the food in the cafeteria could be much better, by having more variety and being cooked more better. It would be cool too if the cafeteria could stay open longer during serving hours and have more late night dining. The dorms could be more newer and larger. And the school store could sell things more cheaper.

    Am enjoying being here

It's very fun living on campus. There is a beautiful pool by Webber Hall. The dorms are decent and there is heavy security, so you are safe. The whole school is beautiful, it's like paradise. There is a beautiful catholic church near the entrance of the school. You meet great people from all over. School is near the beaches and Aventura Mall. Great clubs are nearby.

    Am learning a lot

The education is okay, it could be better. It feels somewhat like high school, but the teachers truly care about their students. There are about 20 students in each class. The lectures are quite interesting. There are only few projects and essays.

    Campus Safety

The security is very old and shots fired on the street next to the university. Would not recommend this for students without their own car. There are no restaurants or stores in safe walking distance.

    Greek Life

2 sororities and 3 fraternities I joined a sorority on campus and then met other chapters from other universities and the chapters at Barry University are at the bottom of the totem pole compared to real greek life. It's really sad because you don't even get the real Greek experience.

    Clubs and Activities

As mentioned before, very little student and greek life. The organizations are struggling and the stronger ones have very low funds and can't do much.

Great for these types of students

Commuter students, graduate students, and adult or older students

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

They have more events, ceremonies, and parties for faculty and alumni than they do for their students.

    Bang for the buck

One close friend and a good degree is what I gained at Barry University. However, I have no special memorable moments shared there and I really tried. I became president of several organizations and did well in my classes but the university does not have it together and had nothing to offer me besides my degree.

    What to do for fun

Many students at Barry University feel much of our tuition goes towards events for faculty and alumni. If we want to do something fun we always go off campus.

    Food and Dining

You are able to choose a meal plan which will allow you at most $225 dining dollars a semester and 15 meals a week. You are only able to use your meals at the cafe and world of wings cafe and you are only able to use your dining dollars at one place called Bucstop which is extremely expensive. All these places have very limited hours.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not located in a safe area and it is not safe to walk off-campus at night. Cars have been vandalized and stolen inside campus. There is also no housing available for Greek life, except one chapter.

    Academic Rigor

The best programs at Barry University are their nursing and business programs which can be confirmed by their status and reputation. I would not recommend attending the university if neither of these are your intentions.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want the typical college experience, Barry University is not the school for you. They do not have any college traditions except Founder's day, no dances, and poor Greek life. It is also not in a safe area due to the fact that people have gotten shot in front of dorms such as Holly House. If you want to simply get your degree and leave, then Barry University is for you.

    In three sentences

The financial aid at Barry University is very disorganized for I have had to contact them several times to fix my grades and financial awards. There is very little student life and Barry University has more than 60% of their students transfer out after their Freshman year which means you lose many of your friends that you had made. However, they do have a strong business school that is AACSB accredited.

Great for these types of students

From personal experience, Barry University is an extremely small community, which makes it easily accessible to all of its offices, events, administrators, etc. The small and tranquil atmosphere of the university gives off a stress-free vibe to receive an education. In many cases, this may be very important because one humongous reason for the large drop out rate of freshmen in college is due to, the all stressful, and overwhelming atmosphere of the institution they attend. Many, if not all the teachers take great advantage of the all famous Blackboard, (Barry's online grade book), which allows teachers and students to communicate with each other at ease, with no hassle whatsoever. All in all, I believe this institution is perfect for the student looking for a more mellow and stress-free environment to excel at.

Very expensive, do not feel as my tuition is being put to good use.

    Commuters Adult Education.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure you are ready for this school, its not a typical University, NO FOOTBALL TEAM, NO SCHOOL SPIRIT, and most sports teams are bad. Food on campus will make you sick till you get used to it and the smiles you see at orientation from everyone will soon fade away within the first week of school. Make Barry a last resort. Also, be weary of the University sucking you in. Many associates tell me they cant transfer because only 1/4 of their credits can transfer. BE CAREFUL!

    Bang for the buck

WAY overpriced school. Housing is stupid expensive, go get an apartment, it wont be that much more and you will be way more satisfied.

    Am enjoying being here

I can imagine being a commuter would make this school a FIVE star, however living accommodations are terrible, and there is way too much drama with people on campus. Most people are stuck up, however you can always find a good group of people to associate with. The area the school is in is disgusting. Placed on the line of the ghetto and the nice area you try and go for a walk outside of campus and you will want to run back to your room without looking back.

    Am learning a lot

The Quality of teachers is great, their teaching style however is not so much. Be sure you can teach yourself everything, or get tutors for every class. MUCH NEEDED. Also, be prepared to get thrown a lot of work towards the end of the year, they are trying to cram everything in the last second.

For students who: like to be involved like for their teachers to know who they are like diversity enjoy being in a city full of life

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Stay on top of your financial aid (even if it means to go to the Business and Financial Aid office once a month) 2. Make sure that you know deadlines for payments and the changes made to your account 3. Park in areas that you can park, otherwise your car will be towed and you will get a ticket. 4. Join an organization or more, and be involved. 5. Most resident Halls are not that bad, just remember its an old university but in Fall 2012, there will be a new resident hall & if you can apply to live in the houses around campus. 6. If you are not Catholic, Barry doesn't mind they will accept anyway. 7. Focus on your studies, the better that you do the more that will shine. 8. Moonlight Madness is one of the most sporting events that the school hosts.

    Bang for the buck

Barry is a private Catholic University and because of this both FL residents and outside residents get charged the same amount for tuition. The good thing is that Barry does accept any outside scholarships and based on your FAFSA they assist you with scholarships and loans.

    Am enjoying being here

Barry University is a very diverse place, you will meet people from all over the world and will be able to share your culture with others. Barry also has many student organizations where one can meet the people that will always be there for you.

    Am learning a lot

I am a double major in Criminology and Biomedical Forensic Photography Major, every time I attend class I learn something new. The teacher actually knows who you are and what work you have done (or not done) in their class. You learn that criticism is not to hurt you, but to make you into the best student that you can be and succeed through your work.

Straight edge who dont like to party

    Tips for prospective students

As a side note if your someone who enjoys extracurricular activities such as drinking (water of course) or smoking non tobacco products, definitely do not come to Barry. They're way too overbearing when it comes to drinking and smoking, drinking offenses are treated like your an alcoholic no matter what your caught with, you will have to take a online alcoholics class and pay the school a 50 dollar fine.. Smoking results in immediate removal from housing. They dont care at all where your from, or if you have a place to stay. My friend was caught smoking and they made him pack up and put him on the street less than an hour later. Nowhere to stay and no way to get to an airport so he could get to his hometown in NY.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely not worth my forty thousand a year to be in this place.

    Am enjoying being here

I strongly dislike being at Barry. The dorms are terrible, the food is worse, and academic building hours are inconvenient. Teachers are nice for the most part but most are foreign and difficult to comprehend. Staff in Student Union building are unhelpful and clearly dislike their jobs. Barry uses a the slogan Barry Cares which I find difficult to believe seeing that the food is a step below prison quality, RA's are only there to get you in trouble and if you have a complaint about something your just yelled at by staff meant to help you and they just tell you to go complain elsewhere. Overall the worst decision I've ever made was to attend the half assed second rate school.

    Am learning a lot

Not learning nearly as much as I should be. I got a 630 on my math SAT and took Calculus my senior year and now Barry is making me take a math class that I receive no credit for, this is a remedial math course that I am unable to test out of. As for other classes, I'm doing next to nothing for and still getting A's

Great for these types of students

Students who want a small community that cares, limited distractions, and plan to succeed in life.

    Tips for prospective students

Study Study Study!!! Don't be afraid to ask for help! And get to know your peers in your major, you all will need each other to form study groups and exceed.

    Bang for the buck

Barry is super expensive and lacks in areas such as maintenance of housing facilities and poor internet service. They also should try and gain more food vendors because there isn't much selection. Also Greek life definitely needs to improve, there is only 1 Divine9 Greek Organization.

    Am enjoying being here

Barry is so diverse and small. You will meet people from all over the world. It's a saying here you either have an accent or you're trying to understand one.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are small and the professors are nice and have open office hours. You really can get all the help you need, especially in the psychology department. And the professors will actually know your name and you can go straight to them not an assistant. They really want you to receive all the benefits of enrollment

    Campus Safety

They are nice people and are stationed everywhere. They escort you from dorm to dorm after 8pm (which is really useful during finals week) and check ID when you enter the gates after 6PM.

    Greek Life

Not really relevant on campus, but I think we will be getting more chapters next year. All of their parties are off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs on campus from student government to dance to sports to pre-professional and research. You can pretty much find several that you will enjoy being a part of. The RA staff also held a lot of fun events throughout the year.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who are intelligent, serious about their careers, likes a relaxing environment and likes to get involved with clubs and organizations.

    Bang for the buck

Many people complain about the tuition, but Barry practically throws money at you. This school is way cheaper than the schools up north. For the tuition you get an excellent education with great and available teachers, decent food, good living spaces and tons of extra-currics.

    What to do for fun

Join lots of clubs to keep you preoccupied! If you don't, you will be bored. Join academic clubs and activity clubs. Take ISR classes and join and intramural. Between study time, these were great ways to keep active. On the weekends a lot of people go out to the clubs because we are in Miami. They will not disappoint. Just go with the right people!

    Food and Dining

The food here is AMAZING for about the first four months, then you get sick of it. I stopped eating at the WOW by about January and started eating at the BUC stop, which can be pricey. So i stocked up on lots of snacks, noodles, mac n cheese, and it worked out. I didn't even like walking to the student union to eat so the snacks worked out well.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are nice depending on where you live. Freshmen dorms aren't the greatest but I had nothing to complain about. If you live in sage, browne or MD hall, you are fine. If you live in D and D or weber, you might not have such a great experience. The upperclass dorms are nice also. They are however, improving the facilities on campus.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers here are hard but very very willing to help you. I am a Biology Pre-Dent major and I've never had a problem with my teachers. They teach well but require the student to do A LOT of out-of-classroom study time. Read read read and you will do fine. Utilize the math lab and writing labs because they really do help.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come to barry if you are not serious about your education because you will hate it. There is a non existent party life on campus because quite frankly, if you are doing well in all of your classes, you probably won't have time to party. Bring lots of snacks and dorm-preparable foods because the on campus dining can get really redundant by the second semester. Also, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! you will be miserable. Those who procrastinated got C's while those who didn't got A's.

    In three sentences

Barry is a SMALL private school that attends to those who are serious about their future careers. It has everything a person needs to be a successful and happy student. The campus is really nice and it is a comfortable place to be.

    Food and Dining

they have a buffet every day, aside from having the usual hamburgers and pizza they have a variety of foods from other countries. the best part it is $7.00 only. drinks are included and you can have what you want how many times you want. aside from that they have vending machines and a couple of other shacks to get some snacks.

    Academic Rigor

so far all classes require a research paper, for athletic training. the professors are very helpful if you look for help. they assume you understand everything, so when falling behind it is important to ask questions. plus there really is no reason to fall behind, for the most part everyone wants to see students here succeed; the faculty are really useful and helpful

    Tips for prospective students

if you do come make sure you will be able to pay, Barry is a bit expensive. on the good side they have many majors and minors available. things that one shold find as soon as possible on campus is the library and cafeteria, they are the most important locations.

    In three sentences

location is not the best, but the campus is clean and easy to find. it is a catholic school, however anybody and everybody is welcome. it is my first semester and so far i like it.

    Great campus safety...

    Greek Life

Greek life is SO much fun. It really makes you want to join all of them.

    Clubs and Activities

PLENTY of clubs to choose from or you could even create your own

    What to do for fun

PLENTY of activities to choose from...

    Food and Dining

    Awesome food... sometimes

    Dorm Life

Some of the freshman dorms need to be redone, but the others are wonderful!

    Academic Rigor

The academic challenge would be based on your major. My major is Business Management, so I really have to be good in math, which i am.!

    Tips for prospective students

Always reach for quality, not quantity Own up to your own mistakes

    In three sentences

Barry University is a very good academic school. They will help you do what you want to do, not what the school thinks you should do. They are also a very friendly school as well as host many events here on campus.

    Campus Safety

They have 24 hour security, patrolling the campus as well as checking that guests that come in and out the residence halls. We also have public safety transportation that takes students to other parts of the campus after 8pm free of charge.

    Greek Life

While I did not get a chance to explore Greek Life, and can not say much about it. I do feel that our Greek Life is nothing like what people typically think.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for EVERYONE and if you do not think so then it is easy to start your own at Barry.

Great for these types of students

Barry University is GREAT for students that want to attend a smaller University without going to a major school and lacking on campus life. It is also really good for students that like to et involved with school spirit and likes to attend school functions.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every Halloween Barry has this BIG zombie vs. humans game where the students literally play tag for a week as the zombies turn the humans into zombies. They also have a festival of Nations that they host every year to give the international students a chance to share their culture.

    Bang for the buck

Although Barry is pricey, most of the students are there on a scholarship so that helps with costs. While it is pricey Barry provides the students with an event for every holiday, added to the small events that they have. The class sizes are small, and they are building brand new housing as well as other additions to the campus. Barry also offers classes to help you stay fit such as Yoga, Pilates, Spinning, Kick Boxing, and Zumba for those that like to focus on fitness.

    What to do for fun

Barry University has many clubs to keep students busy. They also have a LOT of functions for us a few times a month, as well as shuttles to take the students to the mall for entertainment.

    Food and Dining

Starting out the food was fine, as the semester progressed it got old. The food actually isn't that bad if you're not used to eating it. Although I wasn't a fan of the food by second semester the school likes to switch it up so it's okay.

    Dorm Life

While I loved my first year, I could have had better living situations. The housing was livable but I usually needed to call maintenance a few times a month for help.

    Academic Rigor

I have enjoyed all of my teachers except for 1 out of my whole freshman year. I like the small class sizes, the hands on teachers, and the resources available for students.

    Tips for prospective students

Do NOT come here only because it is located in Miami, and they have awarded you scholarship money. With those motives your chances of actually enjoying Barry University may be affected, research the school first.

    In three sentences

Barry works hard to make sure their students have activities. They try their best to accommodate all students, and the most of the staff are considerate people.

Apply at : University of Miami FIU Or if all is lost Miami Dade College..... Save your money time and dedication, Barry in my opinion is a C average college. I'm already $3,000 in debt and cannot register for classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply Elsewhere, this isn't the greatest college.

    Bang for the buck

No, to much money for nothing. Especially if you want to live on campus, their dorms are horrible and dirty. Plus they keep changing the amount of their fees and making them higher.

    Am enjoying being here

Not really a great environment, some of the staff are really rude and also the chefs also have a chip on their shoulders. Living on campus is a joke and would highly recommend not living on campus.

Great for these types of students

-People who enjoy smaller groups. -People who want a small class size where professors know them personally. -People who seek professional development. -People who place high importance on service.

    Tips for prospective students

If at all possible, bring a car. Public transportation isn't very reliable, and the school is very secluded from many fun places. The closest Wal-Mart is about 4 miles away. Doable, but you might not want to carry your groceries that far. Also, GET INVOLVED. It is one of the best ways to meet new people and have something to do. Service is a big deal here, so many classes will require you to do community service in order to pass. Make sure you do it, and go to all mandatory events or you will get additional service hours. If you want a bigger school, this is not the place for you. It is a great school, but very quiet and small. Be aware that their is a mandatory attendance policy for classes. If you miss 6 hours or more, you fail the course. Not all professors follow this policy, but most do.

    Bang for the buck

I have found Barry University to be a wonderful investment. If you aren't serious about your career just yet, and are looking to party more, then you might not want to spend as much money here. Tuition is expensive, but Barry is very good about giving financial aid, especially if you do well in high school.

    Am enjoying being here

While some people hate how small the college is, I love it. I have found the staff to be very helpful, and the school hosts lots of events such as dances and trips off campus, many of which are free. The dorms are your typical college dorms. The food gets old after a while, but again, that's part of the college experience.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the professors are very invested in their students, and will help you outside of class with anything you need. I am a member of the Honors Program, and the HP classes are very interesting, especially PHI 191. If you are willing to work hard and study you can learn a lot.

    Campus Safety

There were several issues with robberies on campus, but lately the school has been improving their efforts to ensure the student's safety.

    Greek Life

I knew a lot of people in greek life, and it seemed a little disorganized. They did a bunch of events for greek, which was cool, but more towards the end of the semesters. They could be better.

    Clubs and Activities

They have plenty of clubs for all sorts of things! The clubs could be more connected with each other, but other than that they are great!

Great for these types of students

Great for any type of student!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It is a completely catholic school. There are fathers and some nuns. I would say that is the only unusual thing; but only if you are not use to nuns.

    Bang for the buck

Barry limits you in a lot of aspects. You can not CLEP classes or do summer semester in another school to save money. You can not register by yourself, because you need your advisor to sign off on everything. They don't announce the deadlines well, so you have to be on top of everything that is going on with the school.

    What to do for fun

If you have a car, you can go to the beach or the Miami hot spots. If you don't have a car, you can't really do much.

    Food and Dining

There isn't much variety, but the few places they have, have good tasting food. While it may be expensive to eat there every day, there are some cheap places you could drive to.

    Dorm Life

I was a commuter student, so I never lived in the actual dorms, but from visiting my friends in their dorms to passing by, I was astonished at the quality of the dorms. D&D is the dirtiest dorm and the stuffiest, while Benecasa actually has great dorm rooms. Barry has the worst and the best dorm rooms.

    Academic Rigor

Great academic program! Their biology program is fantastic, and all the professors are at the school to help you. Since there are only about four thousand students enrolled in the school, there is a nice close knit feel about the school. Better relationships with the professors help you better understand material and make it easier to make study groups.

    Tips for prospective students

Summer semester is very expensive, so if you want to get ahead or be able to take a normal amount of credits each semester, Barry is not for you. I am doing a double major and was very limited with my options in completing my credits in a reasonable time frame.

    In three sentences

Barry University is a fantastic school when speaking about it's academic programs, but it limits it's students a lot. They are constantly upgrading the physical aspects of the school, rather than fixing up the weak spots in their programs. They have much to improve.

    What to do for fun

There are movies nights that are hosted as well as campus activities. There are also a shopping area that is close to the school where students can go to eat something other than school food and other stores.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is the most preferable to go to since it is basically a buffet and the prices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are very reasonable. There is a Starbucks and Einstein Bagel Bros. within the campus as well as a place for grab and go items but the prices tend to be more expensive. There are also three cafes that students can go to grab a bite to eat.

    Dorm Life

I am a commuter so I do not have anything to say that the dorm life is like at Barry University.

    Academic Rigor

At first, the classes seem easy since they are lower level for both distribution classes and the classes your taking for your major. However, the upper level classes will be more difficult because they are usually more demanding and require more work as well as studying if you want to do well in the class rather than simply passing. This can be said for both upper level classes and the classes for your major.

    Tips for prospective students

It is highly recommended to take advantage of having a one on one talk with the teachers/professors, within their office hours, if you have any questions or if you are having a difficult time with the class. Moreover, if you are more of a shy person, students can also email the professors in which they usually respond within a reasonable amount of time. There is also a math and writing lab where students can go to in order to get help. Student tutors for certain subjects are also available for additional help. As such, it would be advisable to take advantage of all the opportunities of being able to do well in a class.

    In three sentences

Even though Barry University is a private Catholic institution, the school welcomes and accepts people of different ethnicity, countries, and religions. The class sizes are small which allows students to have the opportunity to go directly to their teachers/professors for help. Most of the faculty and staff are welcoming and are very willing to aid students.

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorm, because I am located in Orlando Florida, and the main campus is located in Miami Florida. But I have heard that dorm life there is nice.

    Academic Rigor

I would not say that it's difficult, but I will say that it is a lot of work and you will have to stay on top of all your studies, but the professor's are so helpful that it would be very hard, or you would have to not do anything to fail.

    Tips for prospective students

One tip that I can give to any prospective students that would like to attend Barry University would be to make sure you attend every class and keep going never give up because in the end it will pay off.

    In three sentences

Barry University is one of the best Universities in Florida. I have bee attending Barry for almost 4 years, and I have learned so much since I have been there. Food and Dining

The food is great. They have an all you can eat buffet with your meal card. It is the best. They have other areas in Landen Hall where you can eat. The dining hall is welcoming and the aromas are great.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fantastic!!!!!! You meet so many new people by living on campus. While sharing the room you're able to begin to share other things. Having a dorm will be the first step to being on your on.

    Academic Rigor

Although Barry is not in the best neighborhood, it is still extremely safe. The whole school is gated and there are security guards at every gate entrance.

    Greek Life

Not worth it! Before joining you have to pay a huge fee and there is only two sororities and three frats. Unlike you see in bigger schools there aren't any greek parties and usually you can not tell the difference between someone that is in greek life and someone who isn't.

    Bang for the buck

Although Barry gives out a ton of financial aid it just isn't enough. The school its self cost about $41,000 with tuition and room and board that does not include the student insurance that you must buy before starting the semester, every semester.

    What to do for fun

Since Barry is such a small school there isn't much school spirit. Everything that is fun is at least thirty minutes away, meaning that you need a car without a car you will spend your weekends on deserted campus.

    Food and Dining

Although the cafe may look like it has many options, it doesn't. The WOW cafe is full of greasy food which will most likely give you a heart attack sooner or later. Last but not least the BUC STOP out of the three places to eat this is what I consider to be the best, to bad you can't use your meal plan there and have to pay everything with cash. It becomes very expensive after a while.

    Dorm Life

First year dorm rooms are tiny, filthy, and nothing like the pictures. The worst place to live is definitely Weber it's an all girls dorm with the bottom floor being community style bathroom, it is HORRIBLE!

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are amazing, well at least most of them. Very involved in your studies which could be a very good thing or a bad thing depending on the type of person you are. They make sure they do everything they can to keep you on track.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not get fooled by the beautiful pictures they post online before applying, make sure you go and check out the campus.

    Bang for the buck

Coming to Barry is a great experience but this university is not for everyone, so make sure that this small campus is what you are looking for.

    What to do for fun

For fun I go and support athletic teams and explore Miami.

    Food and Dining

The food is not the best. They have no variety in the dinning hall and all the restaurants on campus are very unhealthy.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is ok but it also depends on what side of campus you live on. Some of the older buildings need to be renovated.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are vigorous but there is so much help available that it makes college seem easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you are going to Barry to study not for the party life because that is non existent.

    In three sentences

Barry University has some of the best professors. The campus is welcoming and there are people from literally all over the world. This type of campus provides assistance needed to be successful.

The kappas are not really huge here but they throw alot of parties and they are well known.

    Clubs and Activities

    Wide variety to choose from.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of parties outside of campus. (This is Miami) Barry throws about two parties a year and they arent really that fun but you can always find something to do on any given night.

    Food and Dining

Food here at Barry really isnt that bad. The cafe doesnt always serve the best food but it way better than other universities. The cafe is buffet style so it is all you can eat. There are also 3 other places you can choose to eat on campus if the cafe isnt serving anything you like. These places include wow wingery, bucstop and Sandellas flatbread cafe. Overall, You cant really go hungry here.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life was the best decision Ive ever made! You really learn to fully mature out on your own. At barry the campus is pretty small so everyone know everyone here. To some this may be a bad thing but actually it kind of feels like a whole new family. College isn't just about work its about having the time of you life as well and you can definately live it up on campus. If you are coming from out of state, You may find it hard to enjoy yourself if you do not have a car, but if you do, this will be an amazing experience.

    Academic Rigor

Barry Isnt the hardest school but there are some times when work can get a bit hectic. Expect to write alot of papers but that is to be expect with any university. Earning an A isnt the most difficult thing to do here but do not expect a good grade if your just sailing along.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for as many scholarships as possible!!! Tuition is excessive and they dont give you much time to pay. Make sure you go to Ratemyprofessors.com when registering for classes. Barry has their fair share of amazing professors as well a terrible ones so choose wisely. With a good schedule you will love and enjoy you time here.

    In three sentences

Barry has small class sizes and a friendly enviroment. Great place to learn. Their biggest downfall is their expenses and how they go about making payments.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is quite good, they have security in most places.

Great for these types of students

It's great if you can afford it, for people who like small classes, for people who do not care for the traditional college experience, for people who are very focused in their academic life.

    Bang for the buck

This school is very expensive. RUN and save your money. There is a 60% freshman transfer rate and most have left because of high tuittion.

    What to do for fun

Unless you have a car , there is nothing to do on campus because its always dead.

    Food and Dining

Food can be good on rare occasions but be ready to get sick of burgers, pizza, and fries because they have it everyday

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is horrible especially for freshmans. Most bathrooms are very dirty and have mold growing in the showers. Dorm life is better for upperclassmen.

    Academic Rigor

The school has a great program for Nursing and Business so if you're not in this field, you might want to check out another college. SAVE your money. And if you miss 6 hours of class, your professor can fail you. Most go by this rule, very few don't.

    Tips for prospective students

It is a very small campus with no social life. It is dead on the weekends so unless you have a car or know people that have cars, you won't want to go anywhere because any place that is walking distance is a ghetto.

    In three sentences

Barry is not the school for you if you want a traditional college experience. It is very expensive and even if you get a scholarship and financial aid, you will still have a good amount of money to pay on your balance.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

Depending on which dorm your in it can make all the difference. Dominican Hall> Dunspaugh Hall

    Academic Rigor

Classes can be difficult but it is all about time management!
