    Great for these types of students

    I'd say this is a great college for those interested in sports, education (like those who want to become an educator), the choir, as well as the field of social services. It's a great choice for instate students or just any prospective student period who wants to go to a college that's just the right size.

    Just make sure that you are on top of your work and also check your Bulldog account.
    Bang for the buck

    It's definitely a bang for my buck, considering the fact that I'm an instate student. The tuition is definitely reasonable compared to other colleges.

    It was here at Bowie State that I made a new set of friends. I think there are activities and people for almost any type of person who wants to attend Bowie State.
    Am learning a lot

    So far, I have found the professors to be very knowledgeable in their fields of study.

    Great for these types of students

    Commuters should join the commuter student association. Different groups for different majors. If you choose nursing, keep up with your grades because it is very competitive.
    Tips for prospective students

    Get a tutor early in the semester. Try to find something to get involved in. You determine how your year will be. Do not take early morning classes, they will catch up with you. Get to know fellow students and your professors.
    Bang for the buck

    The tuition is pretty low (around $3000 a semester) which is a big plus for the school.
    Am enjoying being here

    I am still trying to find things to get into because I am a commuter, but there is an organization to help commuters be involved at Bowie State. There are many organizations to get involved in, you just got to look for them.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors do lessons on information in your textbooks and do a pretty good job of explaining things. Just take your time and stay on top of your work for each class and you will go far.

    Great for Business and Science related Majors.
    Bang for the buck

    I think you do get what you pay for here..for the most part... aside from there aren't as many majors to choose from. For example, language majors.
    Did enjoy being here

    I prefer the city, so for me the campus was pretty small and boring. There isn't that many activities to get into here. Not much school spirit...but the campus is really what you make it.
    Did learn a lot

    I loved ALL my professors, they are so willing to help you and the student to teacher ratio is just right so that you don't feel like just a number in the classroom.

    College is what you make it no matter where you go. Bowie State can be one of the greatest college experiences if you let it; both academically and socially.

    I am an out of state student, so I feel as though there should be certain lower expenses as far as tuition seeing that room and board are mandatory.

    It is a very small campus so it is hard to be a resident and not know the bulk of the student body. There is always something to do, an organization is always putting on programs and there are many opportunities to join or create new groups.
    Am learning a lot

    I am a Mass Communications major with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism and I am learning a lot of crucial information abotu my field from experienced professors. I take numerous Theatre classes and have found those to be very beneficial as well.

    Make College the best time of your life responsibly. Do not come on campus for the wrong reasons and do not try to talk to the opposite sex with malicious intent. If you do either of the above mentioned word will be spread. This is a small campus so people talk and know what you do.

    Considering that I am an out of state student and Bowie is a commuter HBCU, I feel as though it is very overpriced. There is not a lot going on for $26,000.
    Am enjoying being here

    I'm a 2nd semester transfer student so I'm gradually getting to know people and get a grip of the social life. This campus we landscaped with nice scenery and not a lot of negative things happen on this campus.
    Am learning a lot

    Majority of my professors (4/5) are very superlative professors. It is a plethora of work but time management is key.

    Getting in is really easy. If your grades aren't the greatest the essay and the interview can really make up for that. Once you do get in make sure you study your Algebra because you have to take a placement test.

    The campus isn't what it should be. They're building new buildings and working on the campus more so it's improving, but I guess you get what you pay for... But the grass is very nice.

    This really depends on the type of person you are, if you're an introvert and never really put yourself out there... this school is not for you. At Bowie State you have to make your own fun. There is always something to do you just have to find it.

    With any school you decide to go to college is really what you make it. So, whether or not you learn anything is up to you.

    Students who hate feeling like they're a number would love the quiet and nature-engulfed environment that Bowie State is. Students who hate having to conform to social norms would also love this school as well. The campus environment simply allows each student to be themselves.
    Bang for the buck

    It is a good school for the amount of money you pay. The campus community is great and you are sure to have many good memories of your time at B.S.U.
    What to do for fun

    The city of Baltimore is a few miles away and accessible by the MARC commuter train, while Washington, DC is even closer and accessible by the Metro Transit Buses/Subway. You are sure to have more options than you can fathom when it comes to leisure time. The school is located in the perfect location, half way between Baltimore and Washington.
    Food and Dining

    The food is sometimes great, while at other times it is below average. The meal plan does give you many options however in many different areas of the campus.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is amazing. Bowie State University is not a party school like UMD- College Park. Therefore, expect nothing interesting. However, the relationships and friendships you make in the dorms are sure to last you a lifetime.
    Academic Rigor

    It is a cheap university, therefore it is not in the same ranks as the more expensive schools in the area such as University of Maryland College Park, Towson University, Morgan State University, and Howard University. Most instructors seem to have a passion for their area of expertise.
    Tips for prospective students

    Always file your FAFSA really early (around December or January) for the following academic year. You will be happy you did so. For those wanting to live on campus, make sure to apply for housing early on as well.

    Bowie State University is a small school with about 6,000 students. While mostly commuter, it serves those in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area and is easily accessible by public transportation. Most importantly, the campus is a tight-knit community where students and instructors alike feel like they are apart of an academic family.

    campus safety is pretty legit. they keep control of the campus pretty well.

    there are several black greek organizations on campus. aka, delta sigma theta, sigma gamma rho, omega psi phi, alpha phi alpha, kappa alpha psi, zeta phi beta, and much more...
    Clubs and Activities

    inter-collegiate sports (volleyball, basketball, track, football, etc.) sga, band, etc.

    this school is great for students who choose to commute and play sports

    bowie is not an expensive school if you're an in-state student with financial aid
    What to do for fun

    bowie is exactly what you make it. while there is not much to do on campus, there are people you can interact with. bowie is not too far from baltimore and washington dc. if you have transportation, then you should be able to go out and do certain things.
    Food and Dining

    the food is decent, the cafe will have a good meal every once in a while. the pub (below the cafe) has fried chicken, french fries, pizza, and pasta...everyday. eating their can be satisfying every once in a while but it can get old real quick.
    Dorm Life

    the dorms could use some renovating, cmrc is an over-priced and over-rated student apartment. bsu is a dry campus, so there is no drinking permitted in the dorms or on campus.
    Academic Rigor

    classes are relatively easy and there are some teachers who seem not to care much about their classes. however there are some teachers who put effort into the work they do and actually want their students to learn life-lessons as well as academic lessons as well.
    Tips for prospective students

    if you are a prospective student that lives in the area, i suggest you commute if you aren't a freshman. if you're a freshman, then i suggest you stay on campus for that first time college experience.

    For fun and a good source of entertainment, I attend the sporting events and watch the band performances. From time to time the student government association throws parties and other events for students to come together and enjoy themselves but they're not always successful.

    Some sort of chicken is served everyday. By the second week its almost unbearable.
    Dorm Life

    Not worth the $2000 to $5000 a semester it cost to stay in certain dorms.

    Like all universities, some professors are passionate about their profession, and some are not.

    Work hard but do save some time for yourself to enjoy the college life. Make sure to STAY FOCUSED. There will always be time to have fun, keep your priorities in order.

    Bowie State is a university with all the potential in the world but does not achieve it. The students priorities are out of order and they constantly show signs up disrespect towards the school. On a whole, I'd give Bowie a 6 out of 10.

    The greek life is great. They members are usually friendly and they are always trying to have fun and get the university involved.

    Its a great place for Business and nursing students because they really do push you to your full potential and want to make sure you are successful.

    If looking at a university in MD, Bowie is the best choice but the tuition is real crazy considering you have to pay some real awkward fees for no reason.
    What to do for fun

    There is always something going on at Bowie, you just have to know where to go. It's close to DC for clubbing, you have the gameroom or you can just hang outside.
    Food and Dining

    Personally the food could be better but I would recommend to eat in the cafeteria upstairs.
    Dorm Life

    I don't live on campus but I have friends who do and when I visit its great. CMRC is the best place to stay considering there is a full kitchen and you have your own room rather than sharing a room with someone next to you.

    If you plan on enrolling make sure you choose a teacher who you understand and make sure you make yourself known because those extra points can go the mile.

    It's a great place to meet new friends and learn new things from certain teachers who know what they are talking about. It's more fun for those who live on campus because they get the information about most events first.

    Document everything. Always be on the look-out for deadlines and opportunities. No one at Bowie is going to contact you about these things you'll need to do it yourself.

    If you live on campus and have no car to transport you, thier are shuttles that take and drop you back on campus.

    There are plenty of fraternity and sorority parties. They are also a lot of school sponsored parties to attend to as well. Joining an activity or organization will get you friends quick which add into having fun.

    Please have a fridge full of food. The food here is only good on Wednesday which is Soul Food night.

    If you live in the apartments your dorm life should be great, but if you end up living in the dorm buildings, good luck.

    We have police, the most I see the campus police is hand out tickets. They mainly stay in there buildings. You would forget they were there until you are trying to make sure they dont ticket you. Parking is terrible to so I see no need for them to be so strict.

    Well the wiseman offers hang out areas. They are in the process of building a new student union building so there is more to come.

    Well I would recommend that you taste it yourself. There are some that love the food and some that absolutely hate it. The only thing that gets me is the dinning for sit down dinner closes at seven.

    Well dorm life can be just like home if you aren't an only child in your home. You get along sometimes, sometimes people just make your butt itch.

    It is hard but if you put your mind to it you will do well.

    Keep check of financial aid money. Make sure your classes aren't dropped. Call and fix anything that you may see fit for changes because they may catch you later.

    Bowie State is a very inexpensive school, if you live in the state of Maryland. I guess it is like any school it may look like the grass is greener at another school when you here but when you change you notice it was only a portrait to get you over to the other side. So I would suggest people to attend, just make sure you keep an eye on financial aid because it can get messed up.e

    The food here is not really good. They try to make their own creations and expect us to eat it. A few things are actually ok and good.

    Its really boring on the weekends because mostly everyone goes home. Sometimes there will be parties but they are pointless since they will most likely get shut down. A lot of students will walk around outside and talk.

    Some of the teachers don't really teach and tell you to read the book. There are some really good teachers here that will teach but will also challenge you to make sure you understand.

    Don't procrastinate. Do all of your work. Go to all of your classes because some teachers really check and make it affect your grade.

    The school is small and in the middle of nowhere. You have to drive, catch the bus, or take the marc train to get anywhere. Theres not much to do on campus except during homecoming. Most of the parties get shut down because of fights. This school can be a fun experience if you make it fun. You cant just sit around expecting the fun to come to you because it won't. You have to go out and make it fun.

    Beings tho I commute I really don't stay on-campus after classes or marching band practice. Their are a lot of activities to do and participate in. The school is not too far from the town center mall. So many organizations that put on plays and etc.

    I do eat on-campus and i love eating their. the food is good and we have three different areas to eat in. You can also have food delivered to campus which is great. They also have suggestion boxes around to see what you want to eat.

    Well I actually don't stay on campus I commute. I would say that its good to stay on-campus. Dorms are in very good condition and the dorm directors don't take any mess.

    The amount of academic rigor is very high, Bowie excepts nothing lower than a C as passing. I love that they do that and keeps you on your A game. You have to stay on-top of yourself as well.

    Always stay on-top of your advisers and finances that come in. Keep up and complete all work as needed. There's a difference between work and play time.

    For fun I watch movies with girls from the dorm. Also, the programs the dorm leaders have are lots of fun and interesting. But mainly I am part of a ministry group on campus and it fills me with joy that I can worship God and be in a school environment doing it.

    Campus police and the adults on campus team up flawlessly to allow its students a safe environment to attend school in. They remain watchful throughout the day but allow every student privacy and space as well. I have not seen any violence, disrespect, bullying, or drug use as long as I've attended Bowie and I appreciate how hard the staff works to do so!

    I am not in a sorority... YET. As soon as I join one you all will be the first to know what I think!

    Professors as well as all adults on campus are constantly reminding students of upcoming activities through pamphlets, word of mouth and other forms of communication! The school contains groups such as ROTC, several sororities, SGA, dorm positions of leadership, the band, and multiple sports groups as well. Each and every activity does not discriminate and does a great job of being warm and welcoming to those students considering joining!

    Bowie State is a great school for minorities as well as for those students that can not afford to attend an expensive college. It is also great for those that live in a close proximity to the school due to it's lack of traffic in the AM! Roads leading to Bowie are often peaceful and contain beautiful scenery.     Bowie does a great job at being a respectable school and remaining affordable at the same time. For students such as myself, coming from a family of low income, searching for colleges was more stressful than for students that can afford lavish colleges. Finding Bowie not only saved my mother and I a couple of bucks but put us in a state of ease as well. We did not stress as much when I found Bowie and have been worrying about money less frequently. At the same time I am receiving a college level education from competent professors and I also enjoy the people that attend the school as well as the campus!
    What to do for fun

    Bowie offers several sororities to join as well as SGA and other group involvement opportunities! Also, the campus includes a book store which houses Bowie State gear and clothing, a game room, a gym, and a pool!

    Cafes and vending machines can be found in almost every building on campus. Therefore, food and drinks are not a challenge to find when you are looking for a quick bite to eat or a small snack.

    As far as tuition goes, Bowie State University's tuition ranges about 7500-8000(books and room and board included) At the moment. It may vary by school year but this is the usual amount.
    Food and Dining

    Bowie State doesn't offer a very large selection of food on campus but anything we do offer on a weekly bases, I can rate a 3.8/5. It usually depends on what the student has a taste for. In the cafe area, the food varies between breakfast, lunch and dinner however lunch and dinner can be the same but have a difference in the 3-course-meal area. There's snack shops and a store on campus.

    Dorm life is more of a family effort at bowie state. Visitation is a privilege and can be given or taken away based on the efforts of the students that stay within the residence halls. Simply put, respect the rules of the halls so nothing can count against you at a later date.

    Commuter students and students in the DC Metro Area. Accessible from Baltimore by the MARC train and there are shuttle buses that take you into town near campus.

    You really have to make your own fun until they start having on campus parties again. Shuttles are provided for off campus parties occasionally. Other than that, throughout the week are organization programs and open discussions around campus, on the weekend it's pretty quiet.

    Beware of the freshmen 15 which is the myth that the average college freshmen gains 15lbs. Although the food at Bowie State is very enjoyable, there are some days that the food may disappoint. The cafe is kept very clean and it is very spacious. Although, I do not like the fact that food cannot be brought back to your dorm. I understand the rule was placed to provent people from stealing but sometimes I do not feel like eating in the cafe. The cafe always has a surprise, whether it be music playing, decorations, or great food and desert. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate the dining experience at 9.

    If you are an upperclassmen I would suggest getting your own apartment. The dorms at Bowie State aren't horrible but campus life isn't all its cracked up to be there. Do not let Towers Hall be your first choice of resident, let it be your last. That dormitory is very out dated. Haley hall is coed and one of my favorite dormitories.
    Academic Rigor

    There are not many difficulties when taking classes at Bowie State. In my opinion the only difficulties you would come across are a subject that isn't your strongest, missing deadlines, procrastination, and not showing up to class on time or if not at all.

    If your main focus is all work and no play, I would suggest this school to you. The weekends at this school tend to get a little tedious. Before choosing which professor you would like for a certain class, I would suggest the website called ratemyprofessor.com. The ratings on this website are very accurate indeed.

    meet your professor before you register for the class if possible, get the meal plan with the most flex dollars' get involved in campus activities, if not you'll be bored. start a group or an activity.

    Campus Safety

    There is on-campus police that frequently engage with the students creating a feeling of appreciation and safety across campus. If anything would happen the police are a quick phone call away and arrive quickly. They also ride around campus, especially during events, to make sure order is being maintained.
    Greek Life

    The greeks on campus are very friendly and they act just like regular students. They are accepting and open to meet new people and aren't harsh or judgmental.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are so many organizations on and off campus thats it's to many to count. From clubs for majors, culture, to multicultural clubs, SGA, RHA, Hall council, etc. There is literally a organization for everything so I believe everyone can find somewhere where they belong.
    Great for these types of students

    Bowie State University is a great institution for any and all types of students. This diverse campus is a great place to grow and prosper. People can flourish here and journey through their academic careers safely and fruitfully.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    There are many activities to do off campus as well such as movie theater, shopping and restaurants. Also out side vendors do come on campus for events and they share their food with the students.
    Bang for the buck

    Everything does cost money but the experience you can gain at Bowie State and the life long friends you can meet makes every worth while.
    What to do for fun

    BSU haves many events/programs that go on throughout the week and sometimes on the weekends. From athletics game, to poetry slams, wild n out, parties, guest speakers, etc.
    Food and Dining

    The dinning service offers a variety of food items. The food is delicious and with a meal plan you can continue to go back and get more whenever you want. Also, when then new student center opens it will be exciting to see the new food options we will have.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms and apartments are nice. The regular dorms are generally decent enough for the price you pay. They could use some upgrades but nothing to the point where they're in horrible conditions. The apartments are for upperclassmen and they are really nice. It cost a pretty penny to stay in them but the money is worth the experience.
    Academic Rigor

    By putting in the effort any student can succeed at Bowie State. There are times when things do become challenging but thats helps in preparation for the students future.
    Tips for prospective students

    Do not come to this school to waste time. If you aren't ready to take things seriously then don't even bother filling out the application. Your place can be taken by someone who really wants to get an education. My advice for prospective students is your will find your place at Bowie. There is so much going on on this campus that everyone can find somewhere where they belong and can thrive.

    Bowie State is a very diverse university located in a quiet and peaceful suburban area. The university offer majors and programs that can fit any students needs. I am proud to attend this great institution and I look forward to being an alumni and giving back to this school.

    Dorm Life

    For a male there are two dorms that one would love to stay in. These are CMRC and Haley Hall. They have the best rooms and they also give us as students more freedom.
    Academic Rigor

    Although my institution test us as students to not only see if we've learned the information but professor also make sure that after taking a course we could reteach this information.
    Tips for prospective students

    Coming into Bowie State expect a change from high school. You are on your own and try to avoid procrastination.

    After attending the illustrious Bowie State University for two years i would have to say i love my HBCU. This University has not only taught me many lessons but it is also teaching me to become a man and a leader. There is no institution of higher learning better than Bowie State University.

    Campus Safety

    The campus is a safe one, there has been a few issues with the on campus apartment complex though. It is not a constant thing but I say it has changed my mind on trying to live in there.
    Clubs and Activities

    This school is FULL of different clubs and organizations. So many that you will find one you are interested in without a doubt. No matter what major you are, there is a club for it and even a honor society too.
    Great for these types of students

    This school is great for the kind of students that put education before recreation. There are tons of areas for studying and you can always find some piece and quiet. Or if you wish to find something to do, there are shopping centers and malls within reach by either car,bus, or train.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    There are several paths that I found that make for a good spooky trail when Halloween comes around. There is also a area where we have had a few bonfires. There are a lot of hidden gems at the school which makes it fun to explore.
    Bang for the buck

    If you are a instate student the school is fairly cheap especially if you manage a good grade point average. When it comes to this school I would say you are paying for the education mostly.
    What to do for fun

    It is near most highways and off ramps that lead to the city life. Not far from DC nor Baltimore. On campus there are fun places to hangout once you make friends and get used to the student building.
    Food and Dining

    The cafe has its bad days but mostly its a nice meal. The only worry is if you are a vegetarian then your meals are very limited.
    Dorm Life

    Living on campus is nice if once you get used to public transportation or have your own. It is not to far from anything fun and there is usually a lot going on campus when its warmer outside.
    Academic Rigor

    Depending on your major, you will have to do some research has to which professors are there to actually educate you instead of just passing/failing you.
    Tips for prospective students

    Personal responsibility is a must have when going on campus. Try to get to know your professors because they will be your biggest help on your way to greater internship/job opportunities.

    Bowie State is a great school full of networking and greater education opportunities. The school is smaller than most which is great for me because I prefer to focus on my studies rather than worrying about any upcoming parties.
