Great for these types of students

I choose Brown Mackie, due to my work schedule. I needed to be able to attend evening classes as well as they teach a subject a month. This allows the student to focus on that one subject, and comprehend it.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan to attend this school. I encourage you to go in with the willingness and determination to learn, because the staff and instructor's provide the tools (this is them teaching and tutoring), so there is no excuse not to get the education you need and deserve. It's up to you!

    Bang for the buck

Brown Mackie is a little expensive, but for the education that I am receiving, I don't mind. I feel that if you want the best education, then you have to pay the cost. even though my pockets doesn't agree.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy going to school here, It's clean and they have recently did some renovating. They have improved classroom settings, such as, replaced carpet, and added new desk and computer's, for the students.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot at brown Mackie in Merrillville, IN. I was very nervous at first. I started school again in October 2010. And I was nervous because, I had been out of school for a long, so at the age of 37 years old, I felt that I would not pick up on the work quick enough, or not be able to keep up with my grades. I also, was nervous because I work a part time job, and attend school in the evening. So, I didn't think I could handle that. But, the staff at Brown Mackie Made me very comfortable, and helped me overcome this nervousness. The instructor's are thourough, and try to make sure everyone gets the understanding of what's being taught. If you don't pass your classes here, with all of the tutoring available, then this means you are not applying yourself.

I feel safe on campus and at the clinical sites.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for those that wish to obtain a degree within 2 years. This school does seem to be Pricey but other community colleges/or 2 year schools are actually requiring you to take and pay for classes that you do not need, therefore increasing the overall tuition and time it will take to complete your degree.

    Bang for the buck

Go to class, pay attention and complete any assignments and hand them in on time. I have found, (due to my age-45) that the students in their late teens, 20's and 30's feel like they are owed something and should just get a good grade/review because they are them. But it is not that way in the real world and without dependability and passion/compassion for you career you will not succeed, regardless of how much school you complete.

    What to do for fun

Currently spend time with family. I still have school age children and am very involved in my extended family's lives.

    Academic Rigor

For me the issue is getting back into the swing of being a student again. But after I got over the anxiety of the first test, I was fine. I am confident that as long as I go to class, pay attention, complete and turn in homework on time; I will be successful.

    Tips for prospective students

Check with other students to get a recruiter or councilor that is active in you success. They are there to help you know your schedule, available programs, (such as tutors and job placement), etc. No matter how old you are, you can still advance your education to either further your current career or start a new career.

    In three sentences

Other students in my program have been in contact with their recruiter/councilor on a weekly basis, but I personally have only been contacted once to remind me to follow up on my financial aid to ensure that I have a place in the coming month. I have only taken one class, the teacher was very knowledgeable and gave us the information needed to pass the class and the state exam to allow us to obtain our license. My only complaint about the actual classes, probably due to my age, is that the teachers have no control; other students were late to classes, late coming back from breaks, sleeping during class, talking while the teacher was teaching and overall had no respect for the teacher and/or any of the other students.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is very high. Security cars patrol the area all day and night, the campus is small, students must have their ID badges on them at all times. After 6 the building is locked and the only way in is with your ID badge, and visitors will not be told weather you are on campus or not. They call the class room and if you want to come out you can but they will not tell your visitor if you are there or where you are at.

We are paying an arm and both legs over $42,000 for 2yr, ADN)for a program that will hopefully prepare us to take the nclex but I'm nervous about that at the moment.

    Tips for prospective students

This school has the latest technology, however the instructors are not trained well enough to be able to fully utilize it. In addition, we are the first class to go through this program at this location and we have had one problem after another. We already had one director quit, who also was the main instructor for our classes. Then we got a stand-in instructor until they hired someone. But she only lasted a month before they hired the most recent and she does not seem familiar enough with the material to teach it to us. If this gives you any idea, the entire class has failed 4 major exams in a row. I'm sorry, but if the entire class is failing, then it only makes sense to look at the teacher.

    In three sentences

Speaking specifically about the RN program: I think in a couple years, this will be a great program, however I believe they were too quick letting students through the door because the program is not organized well enough yet.

    Food and Dining

    Academic Rigor

With the one course a month style of the programs here that leaves little time for a lot of information to cover. So, it is important to make sure you personally are keeping up with all the information and are speaking up when you don't understand.

    Tips for prospective students

Always get to campus early, not only for parking but for library access to print off the millions of power points you'll encounter and to give yourself a head start with the course material. Even if you don't understand it at the time, go over the material that will be discussed in class the following day, then review it again after class. It will really help the information stick.

    In three sentences

Courses become fast-paced once in your core classes, which can be good or bad depending on the individual student. There are a great deal of hands-on opportunities that make it a really great experience. Clubs and Activities

From what I could tell during my visit there are lots of different clubs a person could join, even if they aren't in your specific learning area.

Great for these types of students

Students who learn best in smaller set ups and need the one on one time with instructors will do exceptional well at Brown Mackie. As will students who thrive in a faster paced atmosphere.

    Bang for the buck

For what you will pay for the experience and knowledge you obtain, it almost doesn't seem like a fair trade off. I have researched other places and even went to school for similar things. Never did I get the experience or the one on one time that I expect I will get from Brown Mackie.

    Food and Dining

The offer a vending machines and a cafeteria seating.

    Academic Rigor

Very focused on the atmosphere to learn for you. The class sizes are kept small so that the instructors get to know you as a person, not as a student. It might be fast paced, but it is built in a manner in which what you learn the first week you take with you all the way through the length of your schooling.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to be both amazed and overwhelmed with the set up the school. They have every lab right there that you would need to practice and learn your desired skills. Also, when you leave there, if it is the right fit for you, you will know it in the way you feel.

    In three sentences
