    Apply early and get an interview early. Deadlines sneak up on you! It's important to visit too because it's where you would be staying for a while. Also, taking AP exams is not completely necessary. If you want to skip the basic courses during freshman year, you can test out of them through placement tests. You just have to make sure you'll do well on the placement tests.
