What to do for fun Chico is right down the road from the main campus and has tons to do on your off days. They have a huge beautiful park that runs through the whole town and a very happening downtown scene.
Food and Dining The on campus cafeteria serves a large variety food and Chico has almost every type of restaurant you could ask for.

Categories Comments What to do for fun bidwell park one of the largest parks in the united states is located in chico, california that is just a little ways down the road from the college. sierra nevada brewery that also is located in chico is well known for its sustainability and promoting it too and of couse its beer. there is a varity of things that students can find to do on their days off in any of the towns surrounding the college.
Food and Dining the cafes that are on the campus are diverse in what they serve. you can find anything to float your boat as they say. also most of the items are reasonable priced.
Dorm Life there are no dorms on the campus so you have to live in the surrounding town and then drive or take the bus to the campus.
Academic Rigor butte is a great place to come to because of all the programs that it offers. as the only college in the north state that offers a fish and game program people have to come to butte if they wish to seek work in that field. our nursing program is top rate with a life-size hospital floor for the student to work in.
In three sentences butte college is a good community college to come to get transfer credits or anything else. the teachers are kind and really care about what they are teaching the students and are willing to help in a way. the campus is also totally self-depending with all of the solar panels that it has.

Bang for the buck very good classes taught by professors who also concurrently teach at chico state at a very reduced price.
What to do for fun different types of clubs such as the mesa club and musical clubs, etc.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police constantly roam the parking lots. I have never felt threatened on campus.
Great for these types of students Nature lovers, economically enthusiastic people who want to see solar panels at work
What to do for fun Take a walk on the nature trail, visit the art gallery, or hang out and study with friends in the campus lounge.
Food and Dining Decent food and lovely coffee shop. the only downfall is that the dining services close at 4PM.
Dorm Life There are no dorms since this is a community college.
Academic Rigor The rigor of the class depends on the teacher and subject being taught. Some classes are more difficult than others, but overall I have not had a very hard time earning good grades in all classes I have taken here because they were not too difficult.
Tips for prospective students Use the bus! Campus is quite far away from any major cities near it (such as Chico). The bus saves you a lot in gas and car maintenance.
In three sentences Since it is located on a nature reserve the campus is very beautiful and seeing wildlife is common. Butte is also unique in that it is the first grid positive school in the U.S. using its solar panels throughout campus to power a great deal of the campus.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you don't know what you're going to major in or don't have the money to go to a 4 year, go to Butte. You learn the same things (since it's all general ed) and the teachers are more available for help than they would be at a University.
Tips for prospective students There are a lot of helpful student resources here, find out what you need and seek help if you need it.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Butte college has a great cafeteria with varying ethnic food choices. My only complaint would be the lack of seating due to the excessive students who eat while they have the chance.
Dorm Life Chico California is known to be a college city. Dorm life is definitely what is expected of a small college town. With surrounding mountain ranges and the sacramento river near by, Butte college is close enough for every form of extracurricular activities.
Academic Rigor Many courses offered at Butte College are indeed difficult (ex. Calculus, Microbiology, Physics). Although the courses may be very rigorous, tutoring is available for every subject at Butte.
Tips for prospective students Butte College is one of two colleges located in Chico California which gives Chico the small college town feeling. Help is always available for students who may not excel academically
In three sentences Butte College is a great institution for students who may not know what their intended degree major will be. Butte College offers a great student services center where tutoring and work space is abundant. I'm very happy to have studied at butte due to the knowledge that is available at such low cost.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I personally went to get my liberal studies general out of the way as many other people did because it is so affordable compared to paying so much at a university. If you are not sure what your are of focus is its a great place to get your general out of the way.
Tips for prospective students Don't get side tract. Since it is so affordable I noticed that some people don't take their classes to serious. This is not good if you plan on transferring to another school because all the side tract means it will take you longer to get to where you want to be.
Bang for the buck Couldn't ask for better when it came to having cheap affordable classes.
Did enjoy being here The campus is beautiful in the spring.
Did learn a lot I learned a lot at butte. Most of the teachers I had were great and helpful.

What to do for fun There are some clubs, but since it's a community commuter college there's not much to do on campus.
Food and Dining The food is actually pretty good for a community college.
Dorm Life No dorms.
Academic Rigor It's not easy but it's manageable.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know what classes you want ahead of time because they fill up quickly. Also make sure you review the professor ahead of time online...because you don't want to be stuck with a bad professor. It will ruin the class for you.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities You don't get bored on campus if you're in a club. They are very active when it comes to volunteering, finding internships, guest speakers, and organizing events.

Also, be sure to check out the boards posted all around campus about events, such as blood drives, walks, scholarship info, books for sale, etc..

There are festivals on campus about once a month. Off campus, there's a golf course, a skating rink, downtown Chico has great shops, and have a Thursday Night Market during the summer months. Dorm Life I don't believe there are dorms on campus.
Academic Rigor The teachers are willing to work around problems you might be having, but you still need to keep up. Read the material in advance, and ask questions when you need to. Take advantage of the resources the school gives you, like Supplementary Instruction, study groups, and the instructors open office hours.
Tips for prospective students Use the CAS center and the library. There are tons of free tutors for harder classes, computers, printers, and rooms to reserve specifically for studying in the Center for Academic Success. The librarians are wonderful, and are there to help you do anything from research a paper to find a good book to curl up with.

For example the horticulture club sells a variety of plants and the ceramics department sell student and staff works.
Bang for the buck Brand new Art building! Beautiful green lawn and solar panels also double as shade.
What to do for fun There are hiking expeditions surrounding the college, you can hike the buttes and see wild life and natural vegetation. Also, many sports like, golfing, tennis, football, and basketball. Plus, clubs and events like Rattlesnake week are fun to be involved in.
Food and Dining Food is OK. I think the cafeteria closes to early. Bring food if you have late classes or need to study late. There is not much variety if your gluten-free or milk free.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on campus. Butte is located between Oroville and Chico California... There are a few homes around the area, some may be for rent.
Academic Rigor Depending upon your instructor, academic rigor varies. I say, work hard and give it your all no matter what class/instructor you have.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you pay attention when you go through orientation. The campus is full of places and people who will help you to succeed
In three sentences Butte college is in a serene and beautiful environment. This summer I saw deer on campus in front of my Physical Science class. The staff at Butte are very friendly and easy to befriend.

Clubs and Activities Butte offers about 30 different clubs such as MESA, Science clubs, chess club, Pre-Health professionals, Nurses association, etc...
Great for these types of students Great for any type of students.
Bang for the buck Butte college is cheap and affordable.... More so than any other college i have seen or heard of....
Food and Dining Butte college has a terrific and delicious Cafeteria and the nearby city of Chico has a large number of spectacular dine in restaurants, fastfood restaurants, bars and clubs....
Dorm Life The city of Chico offers many great dorms at the university of California Chico, as well as a large number of off campus living facilities such as condos, apartments, houses, etc....
Academic Rigor Outstanding academics and offers many resources for students to excel. Professors and classes offer more than what is necessary to be prepared for and succeed at a university.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking of attending Butte College, it would be a great decision if you decided to attend this college.... Just work hard and focus, and this experience can lead you to a very successful academic and professional career!
In three sentences Butte College is an outstanding community college way ahead of all other community colleges in academics, athletics, and opportunities. Here the teachers really care a lot about their students and really go far beyond what is expected in teaching and instructing the students. Butte College has to be the best community college in the state of California and offers more variety of degrees and certificates than any other Jr. college in California. I rate it as a perfect 10 out of 10.

Categories Comments Food and Dining I have yet to try their food, but I have heard many great things about their menus.
Dorm Life I am not living in a dorm, so I am unable to provide any viable feedback.
Academic Rigor It seems like this school is very prestigious in academics as they are very proud to be the biggest community college in the state of California and offer many courses to excel in any career.
Tips for prospective students The tips I would offer is never give up on your goals. By this I mean even though it may be difficult to find a class that is filled up, just show up nonetheless and let the professors know that you are going to fight for a spot in their classroom.
In three sentences The orientation I attended on 8/14/2012 was a great source of knowledge as to how the school operates. I am proud to know that I will be attending such a great school offering so much in terms of education. I can honestly say that I cannot wait to start the school year. I have been out of school since 2000 after graduating from High School. I am eager to kick start my career in becoming a fire fighter. From what I hear, Butte College offers the best fire academy in the state of California. To hear that makes me proud to know that I will one day be a first class fire fighter to graduate from a prestigious academy.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Lots of campus police, and there is a department dedicated to helping students who feel unsafe for various reasons.
Great for these types of students Rural, outdoors-ey, dedicated, and driven students.
Bang for the buck Lots of financial aid available, there is even a scholarship office. I joke that you don't need financial aid because the cost of the college itself is so cheap: less than $1500 per semester.
What to do for fun Plenty of clubs, school activities, and college sports to check out. There is also a drama group that puts on productions every year. Get involved with as much as possible to meet new people and have the best college experience.
Food and Dining Unfortunately, the nearest city is 10 miles away, which leaves little choice for dining out. Butte's cafeteria does provide lots of variety and fresh food to choose from though, and there are two cafes on campus. Cost is average.
Dorm Life There are Butte dorms in Chico, located about 15 miles northwest of the college, with frequent buses going between the two. I cannot say anything about the dorms from experience.
Academic Rigor One of the main differences between high school and Butte is that Butte has Blackboard, an online site where teachers post all the homework assignments. If you check on blackboard often and are self motivated to learn and do the work, you will be fine. This applies to anywhere: do NOT procrastinate.
Tips for prospective students Register for classes as soon as possible. Butte is a community college, which means lower funding and less classes, and ultimately overflowing waitlists. However, if you get into a class on a waitlist, stick with it because people will quickly drop the class and you will soon have a spot.
In three sentences Butte is a great, low-cost stepping stone for those looking to transfer to a four year college. The college is 100% self-sustained, is located on a wildlife preserve, and has a wonderful atmosphere, helpful teachers, and a friendly student body.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who are going to college and don't know what they want from it just yet.
Bang for the buck Cheap school, loves to give out financial aide to anyone with a pulse. Not a great thing to experience as a tax payer, but for dedicated students it is the easiest way to get started. If you work hard it is possible to get a good education, but you only truly get out of it what you are willing to put in.
Academic Rigor In terms of academics the school seems to put more effort into appearing to have high scores than in offering classes of a comprable nature to more rigorous academic institutions. Often times classes that are have a high rate of failure are the fault of students being unwilling to dedicate the necessary time to their education, however classes seem to be taught easier every year in order to pass more students. Grades are not improving because students are working harder, they are improving because teachers are modifying their material to a less demanding level.
Tips for prospective students Excellent place to start out and take time to decide on a future path. Beware of impaction, can be very difficult to get into classes these days.
In three sentences Butte College is a great place place to start out and take the time to decide on a future educational and career path. It's recent weaknesses are that it is very overcrowded and resources are spread fairly thin at times. Also, in terms of academics the school seems to put more effort into appearing to have high scores than in offering classes of a comprable nature to more rigorous academic institutions.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel very safe on campus, but I know our campus does have a service where students can report dangerous things that happen and it does get calls.
Greek Life From what I understand, there is only one Greek institution, Phi Theta Kappa, and it is an honors program.
Clubs and Activities There is a variety of clubs and they are all very welcoming to new members.
Great for these types of students Goal-oriented
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus At Butte, for some reason, there is quite a bit of bathroom graffiti. Also, there are large lawn areas and students take to setting up lawn chairs and napping in them out in the open.
Bang for the buck Butte is the only college I have gone to, and I feel like I am paying the discounted price that I should at a community college.
What to do for fun There are a good number of clubs at Butte, but sometimes it's hard to participate in events because many of them happen during class times. If you really have a passion for something, there is probably a niche for it at Butte.
Food and Dining There is quite a large array of foods available in the student cafeteria, but a lot of it is unhealthy. There are all kinds of options for every diet though.
Dorm Life Butte College only has one unofficial dorm and I do not live there.
Academic Rigor I was very prepared academically for college and have not really had to work to keep up at Butte. Depending on how prepared a person is would affect their experience. Also, I have taken predominantly social science classes, I'm sure the sciences and mathematics are much more rigorous.
Tips for prospective students Meet with a transfer counselor right away if you're planning to transfer! It is extremely important. They know about programs and loopholes you many never discover without talking to them. At least one regular counselor appointment per semester will really help keep you on track and graduating on time.
In three sentences Butte is a place where you can gain a full AA Degree education to prepare you for a secondary university. I feel as though you get out of the college what you put into it. If you're looking to make connections, you will, but if you go into it with a bad attitude you always have a bad attitude.

Great for these types of students Those interested in horticulture, sustainability, welding, nursing, paramedic, Fire Academy, Police Academy, engineering, surveying, art, business, mechanics, and the sciences.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Butte College is located in a nature reserve with hiking trails. The view from top of the campus shows the Camal Back mountains, and Butte Valley. It is 100% grid free with abundance of solar panels. Parking structures are roofed with solar panels. There is a strict recycling program, with constant education about being green.
Bang for the buck The buses are free. All computer use and tutoring are free. Parking is free.
What to do for fun There are several clubs to join. Butte is a sustainable campus, so green activities are encouraged, along with Sustainability Days. There is a first rate football team, of which Aaron Rodgers played on. The Associated Students has fun days, where they rent a bounce house, serve cotton candy, snow cones, burgers, pizza, and drawings. Students are encouraged to participate with prizes for rewards.
Food and Dining There is a cafeteria. The food is good, but pricey. There are microwave ovens in the dining area, for those students bringing lunches from home.
Dorm Life Dorm life is one of Buttes weaknesses. This is a rural campus, and most students either commute from outlying areas, or they commute from Chico. Campus rooming is in Chico, CA., a twenty minute commute by bus.
Academic Rigor There are plenty of accessible computer labs. The library is up to date. There are several on campus clubs to volunteer with.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for EOPS and TRIO. Take transfer classes, even if you don't plan to transfer. Take advantage of free tutoring, and great counseling.

Greek Life There are many different Frats and Serorities that Butte College students can join. They are really fun and also fairly safe.
Clubs and Activities We have an array of different clubs and activities.
Great for these types of students Students who are self motivated and love to stay active. We have many farmers markets and events around chico and allot ways to get out and meet people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are many different events that happen throughout the year on campus that can be pretty fun. The football team is one of the best in northern california and the games can be fun to attend.
Bang for the buck Chico is an amazing place to live and Butte College is a great school to attend. The Main Campus is about 15 minutes away which can be a bit of a ride, but there is a large Chico Center that is growing yearly. Also there are buses and carpool programs set up so those who carpool can get better parking at the campus.
What to do for fun Chico has one of the top 5 largest parks in the nation and a nice man made swimming hole that fills up during the warm season with is about 5-6 months. If your 21 Chico has many bars in its lively downtown scene, however no clubs. There are a bunch of different sport clubs here that are easy to get in contact with on facebook.
Food and Dining The food on campus has its ups and downs. There are some really good eats and prices and some other choices that should probably be avoided. Ive eaten at both the Chico State and Butte College cafeteria and Buttes has more choice and better quality.
Dorm Life There are no Butte College dorms, although there are dorms that combine Butte and Chico State students. If you are not familiar with Chico State it is a very notorious party school, so if your looking for a nice quiet living space the dorms are probably not for you; but if your looking for the full expirience this is your place.
Academic Rigor This depends on the teacher and classes you take. Most teachers wont give you an easy A, you'll have to earn your grades.
Tips for prospective students If you are thinking about attending Butte College keep in mind that you will get what you give. If you'd like to slack and party you can achieve that at Butte, but if your going to learn and grow as a student it is a great place for that.
