Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Feel free to explore every part of City College! The library is usually very quiet, and I've always been able to find a computer to work on. I've encountered a number of interesting people from many different parts of the country that come a long way to attend City College. I would suggest to make positive connections with other students and groups, and make sure the professor your going to have is the one for you.
Bang for the buck It's super affordable and I think the setting and education really fits the bill.
Am enjoying being here The campus, although situated in a large city setting, gives a comforting feeling that leaves an impression that I really am at college. I especially enjoy lounging in Shepard Hall, or in one of the small library rooms set on every library floor.
Am learning a lot There will always be hard to understand professors wherever you go, but there are lots of places at the college that offer help, and in my experience, many fellow students are willing to group together to ace a class.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Engineering, Architecture majors. Social science department is funded the least.
Tips for prospective students A lot of trains you can take to get here. 1, A, B, C, D.
Bang for the buck Hey, it's a CUNY.
Am enjoying being here Especially love the main library. Can sleep there as long as you want and there are tons of places to charge electronics. Also a lot of computers to use.
Am learning a lot Professors are easy to talk to and approachable

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that are also working will have an easy time finding classes that fit into their schedule; many late night and early morning classes are offered in almost every subject matter. Students interested in conducting research will be able to choose from many labs in the fields of science, engineering, and psychology.
Tips for prospective students Before registering for your courses, cross check the professors with ratemyprofessors.com! You'll have a much better idea of what to expect; as I said before, not everyone is a winner. In addition, if you are planning to have two classes in a row, try to ensure that they're in the same building. The campus doesn't look big at first, but if you only have 5 minutes to get to where you need to go, it may not happen.
Bang for the buck Although there are occasional tuition increases, City College still has excellent value. The courses offered are what you would expect in any school, including a state school or private university, and the facilities are well kept considering the budget they have to work with.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful, and the staff is generally friendly. The only downside is the fact that this is a commuter campus, and many students have a I just want to get my degree and leave mentality. However, this can be counteracted by joining the many clubs and organizations the school has to offer.
Am learning a lot There are a good amount of professors that are dedicated to your education and truly care about your success. They will have have convenient office hours, regularly send e-mails regarding the course, and some of them will even have weekend tutoring sessions the week before the exam. However, that doesn't go for everyone; sometimes you will have to solely rely on your textbook for information. Additional resources for many courses will be available online through Blackboard, which is very useful for studying purposes. If you can't find what you're looking for through your professor, textbook, or online, you will have access to a large number of online periodical subscriptions, in addition to 4 well stocked libraries. If you come here wanting to learn, you will.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students City College is great for all kinds of students. Since it is located in New York City, you will encounter people from all sorts of cultures and backgrounds.
Tips for prospective students If you are planning on attending City College know that it is a great CUNY school. The campus offers a lot of services. So far I have been using the Career Center to help me choose a major, and it has been very beneficial for me.
Bang for the buck I can only speak for those receiving financial aid and who are living in the city. If you are in his situation, then City College is definitely a bang for the buck.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy attending City College. It is a beautiful campus situated in Harlem on a hill. There are numerous buildings to go to which fit all sorts of personality types. Also, the neighborhood in which City College is located is very rich with culture.
Am learning a lot I am a second semester freshman at City College and I am already learning a lot in my classes. Many of the professors are passionate about what they are teaching which is great since it helps the students understand the material.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students City College is great for everyone. It is really helpful for those who want to get a great education without having to deal with a large amount of debt upon graduating. I am glad that I will be able to get a degree without having to worry about student loans once I get a career.
Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate. Take advantage of your professor's syllabus to plan out how and when you'll get assignments done. For example, a 12-page paper won't seem very daunting if you write a page a day or outline it weeks before it is due.
Bang for the buck City College is a great way to get a good education for a relatively low price compared to other colleges. The facilities at City College of New York, such as their computer labs and the library, often make you feel like you're on the winning end of a bargain.
Am enjoying being here City College of New York has many helpful professors who are willing to go out of their way to help you. You also get many ways to get the help you need through tutoring sessions that are offered by the campus. City College also provides many tranquil areas to sit and study as well as many areas to hang out with friends or make new friends. The people here are really friendly and helpful. Socializing on campus can often take your frown and turn it upside down.
Am learning a lot Once you graduate from high school, many people will tell you that college will be a learning experience. You may think that this is a tasteless cliche that doesn't apply to you, but City College will prove you wrong. Classes may be tough at times and the workload may seem daunting. However, you will not only learn the course material and professional skills on every professor's syllabus, you will also learn skills that will help you in your career, such as time management, public speaking, proper writing and much more.

Great for these types of students hard working.
Bang for the buck convenient location, easy to get there.
What to do for fun student clubs, play rooms, and more...
Food and Dining poor, they need to work on it, and i mean it!
Academic Rigor yeah
Tips for prospective students study from the very beginning of the semester, so cumulative finals will be aced by you.
In three sentences pretty decent engineering school. big competition. if you want to do architecture its a good school too.

Categories Comments Campus Safety in addition to the three guard stations at the street entrances to ccny, there are guards stationed at the entrances of every building. id's are required for entry, which makes it very safe but also annoying if you've left your id at home or have lost it. the id office is efficient enough to take care of it quickly as long as you have a print out of your bill.
Greek Life i can't really say for sure, but there are tabling events during club hours every thursday, so there is definitely a presence on campus.
Clubs and Activities as i mentioned before, ccny has a club for every interest. if i'm not mistaken, there is already a quidditch club and if not, the process of creating a club is very easy. the office of student life has been exceedingly helpful every time i've had issues with my club.
Great for these types of students honestly, i'd say it's great for any career path! though the main emphasis is science and engineering, the humanities are definitely not neglected in quality of instruction.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is a bust of lincoln in one of our buildings on campus, and the tradition is to rub his nose for luck; the oils on people's hands have worn the outer layer away, so his nose is bright gold! i will also mention that ccny has some of the most beautiful architecture of new york city, and if you're a fan of neo-gothic architecture or even just gargoyles, you'll love coming to this little oasis in the city.
Bang for the buck this section is actually what made ccny one of my prospective colleges when i was in high school; it was voted one of the best bang for your buck engineering schools, with great professors for a great price! michio kaku is actually one of the professors available for classes, though i've heard he seldom attends his classes due to his fame. even the non-engineering and science programs have phenomenal professors for a great price, making this a great school for any intended degree path.
What to do for fun there are probably around 100 clubs on campus focusing on various subjects; engineers without borders, latin dancing, english students' voice, and many others i can't name! our campus is also home to a professional theatre at aaron davis hall, which hosts dance companies, theatre shows, and other varied events. if these aren't your style, there are several subway lines nearby with easy access to entertainment all over the city!
Food and Dining ccny recently updated all of its dining areas, which includes a cafeteria with several different kinds of food as well as coffee shops scattered across campus. there are also a couple halal food carts at the edges of campus which are my favorite place to get a quick bite to eat!
Dorm Life the dorms are great, though a little expensive compared to living in an apartment off-campus. i would suggest you follow what i did: freshman year, i lived on campus, but i got an apartment after that. it's a good way to get acclimated to life on campus without spending so much money!
Academic Rigor the difficulty of classes is generally above average, but it really depends on the major you're in; engineering and science classes involve a lot more studying than humanities, but the humanities involve a lot of writing.
Tips for prospective students if you need to work with the staff in the administration building, give yourself enough time to get everything done; there can be a lot of leg work when getting new id's, printing a bill, etc.
In three sentences this school is fantastic! the professors of my major are phenomenal, interesting, and engaged in what they do. the cost is reasonable, even for out of state students, and i haven't met a student here that was inconsiderate or brash.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students CCNY is a highly diverse college. Any person applying won't have to worrying about ones ethnicity dominating the other, because this school is certainly a melting pot! It is very unlikely that you'll find someone at CCNY who shares the same interests as you or shares the same cultural background.
Tips for prospective students CCNY offers a lot of programs and services to help students advance in learning. This college contains a Daycare, Disability Services, Career Center, Counseling Center, and many others. I have even used the online Writing Center's service to ask questions a tutor live!
Bang for the buck I did not receive any financial aid nor scholarships directly from City College, only outside scholarships. Although, I can say that every penny spent in the end is worth paying for your education at CCNY.
Am enjoying being here City College offers a wonderful life, learning, and community for all students. From programs to enhance advance student learning to a variety of clubs and sports to join, CCNY has it all. I am apart of CCNY's Gospel Choir and am meeting lots of wonderful and talented people. Joining clubs are a great way to network and make new friends so do not hesitate to join them!
Am learning a lot I am enrolled in all music classes this current semester and loving every bit of it! All the music classes I took in high school set a firm foundation for me once I entered college. I feel I can never learn enough when it comes to music, and City College is broadening my knowledge in it even further.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students There are no specific types of students that great for this school because there is such a diversity. It is one of the most diverse colleges in the city. There are so many different people that it is easy to make a lot of friends.
Tips for prospective students Even if you are not sure of what major you want to choose, you can start off by taking classes that almost every major is required to take. As well as free electives. After 2 semesters, I am sure that you will find out what major you are really interested in. If you are already positive of your major, everything is much easier. You will be able to take all the classes you need without wasting any time or money.
Bang for the buck As a CUNY, City College is much cheaper than other colleges, but many still cannot afford it. I know many people that receive a lot of financial aid and are able to go to school for very little money if not for free. They also have different loans that one can use.
Am enjoying being here I am currently living on campus. It makes life a lot easier rather than commuting for about 2 hours everyday. Many may say that they cannot afford it but I apply for as many scholarships that I find because my financial aid does not even cover my whole tuition. For the rest, I use a loan. To me it is worth the investment because I am constantly on campus 24/7. I am usually in the Architecture building over nights so it is much safer and worth it to be living at the dorms; I can quickly grab something to eat and shower then return to school.
Am learning a lot City College is meant to help you out in every way possible. The professors are great; they will help you improve and usually available office hours or are available through email. The advisors are of great help as well. They speak to you one-on-one about the required classes and they make sure you are taking a good amount of classes/ credits each semester in order to keep yourself at a good pace.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is fairly safe. It could be safer, but it's good for Harlem.
Greek Life Greek Life is nonexistent at CCNY. Members of frats and sororities will try to convince you otherwise, but honestly, there's nothing even close to standard Greek life.
Clubs and Activities There are tons and tons of clubs on campus. There are musical clubs, student government, a Harry Potter fan club, clubs for majors, LGBT support clubs, and everything in between.
Great for these types of students CCNY is great for everyone, because the student body is sooooo diverse.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There really isn't anything unusual about CCNY. It's very cliquey. But, there are a lot of really cool roof spaces and there are tunnels connecting all of the buildings on campus. Find them if you dare.
Bang for the buck As far as tuition, CCNY is extremely affordable. However, the dorms are NOT.
What to do for fun CCNY is smack dab in the middle of Harlem, on Manhattan. Anything you could possibly want to do is no more than a walk and/or train ride away.
Food and Dining Stay away from the NAC cafeteria. Just stay away. There are a few great restaurants on Amsterdam that are so much better.
Dorm Life Dorm life is decidedly sub-par. The maintenance staff is very unreachable, and the quality of the building and people who staff it is a little pathetic--not to mention the place is insanely expensive. However, if you can afford it, I would suggest living there for at least one year. The dorms provide a means of getting to know others that commuting just can't.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at City College, as, I presume, with any university, varies by subject, class, and professor. I can honestly say none of my classes have just been a walk in the park, and I'm a die-hard humanities major. None of my classes have been a 'joke,' and have all challenged me in several different ways.
Tips for prospective students Definitely come here. It isn't particularly difficult to get in to the school as long as you complete the application correctly and have fulfilled all of the applicant requirements. It's also a very affordable university, about $2000 per semester for in-state, $8000 for out of state, and there are plenty of Honors programs and scholarships to be had!
In three sentences City College offers a wide variety of courses and majors, fitting for anyone. Their teachers are among the best in their field without being overly pretentious or over the top as far as their success. The student body, over 20,000 strong, is among the most diverse and nonjudgmental in the world, with over 90 languages being spoken throughout the beautiful Harlem campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety 100% Safety. I have stayed late at night in the Campus I always feel like I am in my home.
Clubs and Activities Engineers Without Borders Robotics Club Women in Islam Harry Potter Fan Club NSBE
Great for these types of students If you are sleepy and tired, there is a best place to take a nap, in the Library. As well as, it is a best place to study with groups as well. There are study rooms, computer labs, group rooms, and many more. It is a BEST Place to study. Enjoy!!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a prayer hall in Wingate Building. Also the roof of Architecture building is also The Best place to hang out with friends and to study, Its great view from there.
Bang for the buck You can apply for campus jobs. (Work Study)
What to do for fun Well there is game room in my college, it is a best place to visit and they have plenty of games from pool table to table tennis, x-box to wii and PlayStation. I have tried almost every game. But one thing you need bring your own game CD.
Food and Dining It is a best place to hang out with your friends. Don't worry there are variety of food from pancakes to mac & Cheese. I love the Shakes and Yogurt they're indeed tasty!
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorm but my friends who are living there are having a great time. Have more time to spend time in the campus where they have met many people and joined clubs. Living there is a GREAT LIFE!
Academic Rigor I have managed to take notes from textbooks which really helped to me to study for finals. I have made plans for the whole month which helped me to organize my time on working with my final papers, study for exams and spend time with my family members. Planning ahead helped me a LOT and it will help you too!!!
Tips for prospective students Guys ready to work on your own! Read your Textbooks!!
In three sentences City College is one of the Best College. I love the Campus and Staffs they are really supportive and helpful.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students that know and love the city, and have the money to go out and about in it.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for a party school, or for a lot of fun with friends and a great time then this probably isn't the school for you. If you are just looking for a great education at an inexpensive price and do not care about the social atmosphere, or have the money to explore the city, then City College is what you're looking for.
Bang for the buck The school is relatively inexpensive and you receive a great education for your money. If you live on campus, or if you rent an apartment near campus, this can get pricey, but no more pricey than living on or near campus at most other schools.
Am enjoying being here I am not a fan of the city atmosphere. I thought it would be fun but everything is very expensive and I'm broke. Also the students do not associate much outside of their small groups, as most people are just commuting and wanting to get in and out of the school.
Am learning a lot Having small classrooms and individual attention is a plus at City College. Some of the teachers however do not speak English very well and so it is hard to understand them.

Categories Comments In three sentences The City College of New York has some great teachers. I feel that one you put time in to your work, you will be able to do well in the class. The only problem is it is hard to find open sections, especially when most of the school needs that class for their major

Categories Comments Campus Safety CUNY beefed up security after the tuition protests. Also the CCNY department has strong ties with the NYPD. The campus is open to everyone, but it is not a place to screw around in.
Greek Life Not really existing, but not really important in New York
Clubs and Activities There really are so many clubs, also starting one is not entirely difficult.
Great for these types of students Future Engineers, Architects, Science geeks, Lawyers, pundit-heads, alternative students, New York enthusiasts.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Shepard Hall's labyrithian layout is kind of like a real life hogwarts, you always end up finding something new. Also Saint Nick's park is really cool to walk through after class.
Bang for the buck 5,680$, while the tuition is rising by 300$ a year it still is the cheapest public university system in the country.
What to do for fun Its New York City, unlike other schools in the country access to virtually anything worthwhile is a subway stop away.
Food and Dining Definitely better than most schools, but not entirely recommended. Honestly Hamilton Heights has great neighborhood deli's and dinners that are both affordable and delicious. Although the new CCNY id cards have a debit card access to purchase items in the school, a smart way to perhaps focus on just school dining would be to streamline cash and save in the cafeteria or the other cafes in the school.
Dorm Life Dorms are extremely expensive. Financial aid can cover it, but if you are more independent you will have to pay a fairly hefty sum of money for a room in a 4 bedroom apt in the 'Towers'. Apartment living, honestly, is a lot better, and harlem is a great neighborhood to set up shop and commute.
Academic Rigor Definitely among the best. Classes can be hard, but the outcome is better for graduate school applications and exams. Reading and comprehensive exercises account to a higher LSAT score, also the college tailors your major with individualized programs for a fast-track career placement, or graduate school placement.
Tips for prospective students Don't expect a fleshed out greek life, there are a million clubs in the college but if greek life is everything for you, this may not be the best location. Also explore the neighborhood and know where you want to live, dorms are ridiculously expensive and the local rent is relatively cheap. Just make sure you know what is around to make an intelligent decision.
In three sentences A great institution with an outstanding history. City College has an outstanding vibrant intellectual environment in its classrooms and its campus. Highly recommended and very inexpensive in contrast to other schools in the city.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are police cars and securities in every building and around the campus all the time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every thursdays ton my campus, it's club hours. I always meet new people and interact with many people.
What to do for fun For entertainment I have joined a bollywood dance team. I made many close friends in the past few months. There is also game room on campus or students to play other sports in.
Food and Dining Since, I am a vegetarian there are places where I barely find anything to eat, however CCNY campus and the food stores around it makes it easier for me. The food in the cafeteria is very warm and fresh. The stores around such as pizzerias or subways also have fresh food.
Dorm Life I communte.
Academic Rigor From the beginning of Fall 2011 semester till now, I have learned about many aspects about my major. Advisers and professors always aid in choosing the right classes for my major. And my fellow classmates and friends from previous years have also guided me on the campus about the questions I may have.

Great for these types of students Anyone interested in living in NYC but not paying an arm and a leg for tuition
What to do for fun club hours every Thursday, tons of clubs for after class time
Food and Dining Tons and tons of options both in campus and outside.
Academic Rigor It really depends on the class and professor

Dorm Life I've visited the dorms a few times and I love it
Academic Rigor They truly cater to your academic and social needs, making learning easy.

Categories Comments Food and Dining In the Broadway campus there is no lunch room, only vender maching and tables in the hallway with a microwave oven.
Dorm Life City college has a main campus on 138 street in Harlem. That campus is bigger and has more students. I don't live in dorm,
Academic Rigor In City College/ CWE the Professors are great. You will label your favorite Professor. You will learn most of the Professors there are Doctors. In my Law and Lit class i wanted to change that class because that Professor was talking a lot. I went to my advisor to and asked to change class, but he talked me out of my decision and it was one of the best things that happened to me. I learned so much Law and Literature , it became very interesting. I thanked my advisor for convincing me in staying put. There is a challenge in learning and it's worth it. You just have to be focus and be ready to learn. When the semester is over, you will have a great feeling, you won't feel like it was a waste of time.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students are students who wants to continue they education or start off fresh at City college is fantastic idea. City college is an accredited school and is willing to take credits from your previous accredited college. When I first started, i transferred 40 credits from my previous college, which was wonderful. However, city college/ CWE campus is on Broadway. They only offer Liberal Arts degree with a concentration in Human Services, communication , business act...and it also offers New York teachers degree in early childhood education. This school is about completing what you started. Everyone is serious in cwe and that's what i love about it. Most students that goes to cwe are parents and employees. It's not a fashion show or who has a crush on who. We only attend there for one thing.
In three sentences I attend CWE , center for workers educations in City college and i like it. CWE is for working adults who wants to continue their education. All students are adults and we all there for the same purpose.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck If you're a resident of NYS, you can't do better than CUNY tuition and I think City is the best academically of all the CUNYs.
Food and Dining Overpriced food on campus! Since there are so many delis and a couple of food spots around campus, I don't see a point in ever eating the food on campus.
Dorm Life I wouldn't know, I don't live in the Towers but I know people that do and they say its nice.
In three sentences Its a place for serious students, not people that are going through the motions in life and just attending college just to attend college. Don't bother coming to City if you're not going to be a physical science, engineering, or architecture major.

Categories Comments Dorm Life Dorm life at CCNY sounds pretty awesome. Though this mostly a commuter college, there is a big group that stays at the dorms. They match you up with people who are usually very respectful to your needs. The dorms people definitely work hard to make sure that you are pleased with the accommodation.
Academic Rigor Though I have not yet started, I have heard that the academics are top notch. Their engineering and math department are extremely highly rated! City College was actually called poor mans Harvard.
Tips for prospective students Apply! CCNY definitely has it all, from all the majors to all the demographics. Make sure that when you apply you put in exactly what major you want, or undecided (if that is the case). If you ever have a question don't hesitate call them, and they will help you out 99% of the time, or transfer you to someone who can help you.
In three sentences City College is an amazing place, it is in Manhattan but still a campus school. There is grass and old buildings that give the school a great feel. The teachers and faculty are all extremely nice, and you really feel that they want you to succeed!

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a campus safety number and office to go to. If you are feeling unsafe for any reason there are security escorts available to walk or drive you were you need to go. Also shuttle buses.
Clubs and Activities Clubs are official and plan events during club hours. There is always some bake sale for some club.
Great for these types of students Humanities, Art, Music, Biology
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Finals week the library is open 24hours and the students spend the night with sleeping bags studying and conversing together.
Bang for the buck City College is inexpensive but provides a priceless opportunity. I fell in love with the campus, the friendly students and Professors, and last but certainly not the least the beautiful structure of the old buildings.
What to do for fun Local book and Cafe spots, shopping, lounges, clubs, College spring fair is awesome and free! Access to the City life down the street to the 1 train so pretty much anything you can think of.
Food and Dining Ugh food could be better...but at least they have vegetarian options!
Dorm Life City life is thee Life. Oh and Columbia is 10 blocks down Amsterdam...can we say Party?
Academic Rigor A lot of reading and writing, but this will only improve you as a student. Professors are serious about their work, and want it on time.
Tips for prospective students Learn the dos and don'ts of your professors, they are the key to your success. Go to all the free events, there is always really good food! Immerse yourself in your work as if you breathe it, you will inspire your Professor to teach you in a way that is ineffable. Find out if your Professor is an adjunct or contracted Professor who they know may help you.
In three sentences Cuny City College offers a friendly, diverse, and united learning environment. The students are surrounded by faculty who are ready to aid and inspire you on a academic journey. The campus is beautiful.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is crawling with campus security, and if yous till not safe, NYPD, FDNY and the US Coastal Guard are within an arms reach. Alright, maybe not the FDNY...
Clubs and Activities CCNY has a lot of clubs and organizations. I'm excited because I want to be involved in CCNY's student life. Being an out-of-state private high school student, its really nice to meet people and to connect through culture, career, or simple interests via clubs and organizations.
Great for these types of students CCNY is known for pushing out successful students. I wish I knew that when applying there, because I don't think I deserve to attend this school, honestly. Being enrolled in this school definitely helped me realize that you have to be ambitious. You also have to know what you want,. You have to be resourceful, because like any first time college student, you're off on your own. CCNY will prepare you, but you will have to apply it to NYC, and NYC is a tough city.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus CCNY is located in a beautiful section in Harlem, on top of the spacious, scenic St. Nicholas park. However, it is located on a hill. If you like the hike and working on your gluts, then this is the perfect school for you. I like the school a lot because of St. Nicholas. The park is so nice to picnic in, to hang out, or to study between classes on a nice day.
Bang for the buck Definitely CCNY is so cheap, considering that it is an amazing school. I've been to a lot of college campuses, and CCNY definitely has that diamond that I've been searching for quality. CCNY has that quiet, Ivy League vibe to it, without the Harvard prices.
What to do for fun Well, like I said, CCNY is located in Harlem, a section of Manhattan known for its empowering history and colorful black culture. The famous Apollo theatre, located in Harlem, is great for entertainment and learning about Harlem's history. If you are not into that, there are plenty of things in not only Manhattan, in NYC. Shopping, volunteering, Career searching, Movies and plays, whatever you want to do, NYC and CCNY has so much to offer.
Food and Dining I haven't eaten there, but I hope the cafeteria food is good. If not, CCNY is located in the perfect place for dining out. You could eat a lot of tantalizing, glutenous and exotic foods in NYC that could make you enjoy the college experience more.
Dorm Life I am a commuter student, so I don't know the dorm life. (I'm only rating this category one star because I don't have a dorm.)
Academic Rigor I don't really know the academic rigor, but I did hear that the school lets in top students (which is a HUGE compliment) that are academically capable. I wish I could meet one of the professors to gage the curriculum off of them. I am definitely excited to be intellectually challenged at CCNY.
Tips for prospective students Get Financial Aid and everything right. Although they are helpful, the admissions building reminds me of a check-cashing place.
In three sentences The vibe I got from this school was welcoming. Because this is an urban school and being from NYC, I can still get a college experience without being too far from my home.

Academic Rigor I really look forward to getting my degree and leaving college with excellent results.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and make sure you visit the campus.
In three sentences It is a good school and there campus feels very comfortable. The environment is neat and I like it. I think the people are kind of snobby though.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Commuter students, Pre-med students, Engineering students, Architectural students, students who love diversity and the city life
Bang for the buck Being a City University school, City College is not as expensive as other school on state, private or ivy league level. In addition, City College accepts many forms of financial aid (federal, state, loans, scholarships, grants, etc.).
What to do for fun One of the best things about City College of New York is that you could always find something to do during your free time. There are tons of student organizations/clubs and activities. There's also a gym with lots of equipment, and an upstairs track area. The campus has several green areas, as well as tables and benches, where students can do their work, hang-out with peers, or simply relax.
Tips for prospective students City College is a large school with a large student body. Do not expect things to be handed to you, as there are not enough staff members to take care of all the students in such a way. Don't be afraid to ask for help!
In three sentences City College of New York is an extremely diverse campus, with students, professors, and staff from all over the world, speaking many different languages. It provides students with the opportunity to study anything and everything there is out there; including medicine, engineering, architecture, business, healthcare, social sciences, mathematics, etc.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The are many activities that takes place in city college. Students are emailed with the information weekly. Also there are many clubs and Greek life(Sororities and fraternities) people can join.
Food and Dining Food and Dining in City College needs improvement. The food is pretty good, but can be expensive. The dining by lunch time (Around 12-3 Pm) is overpopulated. To get a seat is often difficult, Mostly because of the high school that is located in our campus, coming into our campus and dining also.
Dorm Life I commute to City College, so i do not live in the dorms. I heard that the dorms are great. I believe they are coed but i am not too sure. In the dorms you will meet many students that you are taking classes with
Academic Rigor The academic rigor for city college is pretty intense. Many classes are difficult and challenging. To a get a good grade, studying, handing in assignments, and attending classes is a must. Also final exams are worth a large portion of the grading system, so as I stressed before study!
Tips for prospective students I will advice that prospective students should attempt to get rid of their old high school habits. College is nothing like high school. The professors are strict about getting assignments done by the deadline. Also attending classes is a must. You can get away with a absence or two, but beyond that will reflect on your grade.
In three sentences City College is very diverse college. The campus is really nice and there are many activities that is done throughout the year. At City College you will meet many wonder professors, counselors and people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very good shuttle service to the dorms and all subways. ID's are always checked when coming in the school.
Greek Life Tries to hard
Clubs and Activities It takes a while to get into them and find a good match for you. But it helps you create a community.
Great for these types of students Determined, out-going, lots of energy
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not that I know of
Bang for the buck Definitely the best school for what you pay.
What to do for fun Join a club!
Food and Dining It has been getting better and better over the years. There are more healthy choices in the cafeteria and cafe than before.
Dorm Life Not much of a community, not very large.
Academic Rigor Depends on the class you take but for the most part it is a challenging school.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to dig and talk. Meet with every and any department you are interested in and talk to everyone you can. Keep a high GPA and you will get more individualized attention from all your professors.
In three sentences City College is a school easy to get lost in. That being said, it has some of the best and most notable professors in the country who are enthusiastic about teaching. It is a great school at a great cost.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very good, diligent security services (though more so at night).
Greek Life Nominal, almost none.
Clubs and Activities Many, but not all are active.
Great for these types of students Night-time or weekend students, those who work, etc. However, most students are average college students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Lavender Week, a week of different events (amusement park attractions, scavenger hunts, cookouts, etc.) thrown by the university.
Bang for the buck The best thing about it. Affordable for single students who work for themselves.
What to do for fun Well-equipped workout gym, standard basketball gym, olympic-sized pool. Not very active student organizations. No nightlife.
Food and Dining One dining hall, very overpriced. Most students dine out at a limited number of local delis and restaurants.
Dorm Life One dorm, never full. Good amenities (private bathrooms, kitchen, etc.), but very expensive. Not much student life.
Academic Rigor Depends largely on the course and professor, but generally quite difficult.
Tips for prospective students Over anything, make sure you don't fall behind. Keep up with your work, don't become complacent, and put your all in. Although it might seem like this isn't always necessary, it honestly is. Work for yourself, and you'll reap the benefits.
In three sentences Though rigorous in its course offerings, many students feel drowned out by departments that often don't offer personal attention or friendly ears. Class and professor quality is very hit and miss. Overall, a good value for the cost of tuition, but it's hard to see that when a student feels that everything is pressing in on them unfairly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is in Harlem, which isn't that great of a neighborhood. I'm usually always on campus, and I've never had a problem with safety. My walk from the train station to the campus is about 5 minutes long. I've never felt threatened along the way and my latest class ends at 7:45 PM. I actually walk past an elementary school so there usually isn't any funny business going on. For late hours, however, I know that there is a public safety number to call. Apparently a patrol officer will escort you to the train station, or wherever you need to be that is within a reasonable proximity to the campus. The number is located on our ID cards.
Greek Life I've seen a few sororities and fraternities sporting their hoodies around campus. I don't really know what they're like, though.
Clubs and Activities Unfortunately, I haven't been able to participate in any clubs. I'm a full time student and I also work at an afters school so I haven't had the time.
Great for these types of students Great for what types of students?
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are 5 of Lincoln's Busts in the nation-- one being here at CCNY. Apparently you can rub his nose for good luck.
Bang for the buck I'm actually here on a full scholarship.. But I could use extra money to cover the costs of my commute and textbooks. Tuition is $2,715 per semester... I don't think I know how to measure education in terms of money, or if I actually can. Sorry.
What to do for fun I don't really have time to check out CCNY's fun spots... But there's a game room with game consoles, a ping pong table, pool tables, foosball tables, etc.
Food and Dining The main cafeteria was actually closed in the beginning of this semester for failing health inspection. It's up and running again, but my skepticism will always linger. I usually purchase packaged foods.
Dorm Life I don't dorm here, so I cannot really rate it. However, I've visited. The dorms seem nice and accommodating.
Academic Rigor It isn't Harvard, but it ain't a joke either. You still need to take your classes seriously to get the grades you want.
Tips for prospective students Don't take it for granted. You might not always be around the brightest or motivated students, but that doesn't mean you should slack. Take advantage of that and really make yourself stand out. It's honestly a school bursting with opportunities.
In three sentences City College is a historically prominent university with many resources and opportunities for its students. Though its caliber of admitted students isn't for the most part very high, a good percentage of its students hold great potential. It's basically a university with a big stage and spotlight up for grabs.

Clubs and Activities There's an interesting and diverse pool of clubs at City College.
Great for these types of students Sophie Davis students
Bang for the buck You will feel like you've been cheated out of your money, even though this college is cheaper than others.
What to do for fun The people here are nice. It's easy to have a social life here.
Food and Dining Always expect the cafeteria to be closed down by the FDA.
Dorm Life Get an apartment. The dorms are overpriced.
Tips for prospective students You can do better. Get scholarships and go to a better college.
In three sentences This college is the epitome of the phrase you get what you paid for. If you're a Sophie Davis student, you'll have a great time here. If not, enjoy a mostly mediocre faculty, especially in the engineering department, which will make you feel bad and try to weed you out.

Food and Dining The Metropolitan Food Service at City College maintains a clean environment in their dining rooms and provides valuable products and services to students and faculty. The food service offers a variety of foods that are of good quality.
Dorm Life The Towers is City College's modern on-campus student resident located just a stone throw from classrooms. It houses hundreds of students and provides a comfortable living environment with strict security for students.
Academic Rigor City College's academic policies are built on intellectual honesty. The policies enforce all students and faculty to lead disciplinary lives on campus and in class and, do not tolerate any violation of the policies by students or faculty.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students will gain the ability to achieve their dreams, improve their understanding in their respective fields and gain further self-esteem, which will allow them function as role models.
In three sentences City College is a comprehensive service institution dedicated to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education. The college demonstrates the ability to offer students with opportunities to achieve excellence not only in the field of education, but also in the preparation of people to function as important components of an integrated society through its numerous educational programs. The college is committed to a high level of academic accomplishment, yet creates a favorable atmosphere for students to live in. Food and Dining Food is exquisite, delicious varieties of different foods, well cooked, great service. Only downfall are mildly high prices.
Dorm Life I heard its quite safe and an awesome experience especially for those who are away from home for the first time.
Academic Rigor The teachers are strict in the sense that they want you to exceed your work ethics. They want their work on time, and completed their way, however, they are understanding to personal issues, when it comes to handing in work late.
Tips for prospective students Always come into class on time. Make sure to take notes in class even if you are the only one with a notebook out. It helps to do this for future quizzes or if you missed something in the book that you were reading. Writing down what fellow classmates say help you understand the concept of what your studying better.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There's a game room, clubs, concerts, plays and musicals, Lavender Week (spirit week) and many other events that happen all over campus!
Food and Dining The food is not spectacular and the health rating is not great in the cafeteria, Hoffman Lounge is a hotspot, as well as the 3 Starbucks locations on campus.
Dorm Life I don't currently dorm, but as a testimony from my friends, it's a great place to sleep and study. If you're looking for party central, this is not the place. With 24-hour security, sign-in/out, and a seminar/game room, you not only feel safe and secure bu you can enjoy yourself as well.
Academic Rigor It's definitely getting harder to get in the school, and it gets tough in each semester so study hard!
Tips for prospective students -Join a club! It's one of the best things you can do to connect yourself to other people, especially those with the same beliefs (InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Muslim Students Organization) and majors (Psych Club) as you. There are also clubs that cater to other cultures like Bellydancing, Black Student Union and -Meet, and keep in constant contact with an advisor. They can help you decide what path to take and what classes will be best for each semester. Career advisors are also great in helping you get internships and even jobs in your field! -STUDY! You may be a braniac, but each class and professor is different. They may require something that another does not, so be prepared, look over your notes and study!
In three sentences This beautiful campus is home to over 16,000 students, all pursuing degrees for everything from architecture to music. Clubs and Activities There are a whole list of student organizations on the CCNY website.
Great for these types of students CCNY is great for students who want to be close to the heart of New York City.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a mysterious planetarium.
Bang for the buck A CCNY education is very affordable, a LOT less than that for a private university.
What to do for fun 145th Street and 125th Street, which are a campus bus trip or a fifteen minute walk away, have lots of food stores. There are usually bake sales and other interactive events in the North Academic Building. There are some grass plots and lounges for spending time with friends.
Food and Dining CCNY's cafeteria has been closed down a few times by the Health Department.
Dorm Life Each dorm floor tends to have its own personality. Living in dorms can become very distracting, but it is convenient in terms of socializing and traveling to school. Many students are commuters from home since CCNY is very accessible by train.
Academic Rigor The academic intensity depends on the professors.
Tips for prospective students There are many competitive schools on the City College campus that are worth looking into depending on the applicants' interests. They include the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, the Grove School of Engineering, the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, and the Macaulay Honors College.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Everyday I was at school, I went straight to the salad bar and indulged myself in lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and grilled chicken under a creamy, tasty 'Caesar Cheese' dressing. It was LOVELY! They have an express Starbucks, Shake Shack, Sushi Bar, Pizza, Breakfast section, Ice cream section, etc. Basically anything you would want in a day's meal, is there!
Dorm Life I, personally, have not lived in the dorms, but on my tour earlier in the school year and from classmates who do experience dorm life, says that it is totally worth it!
Academic Rigor There are son many different classes at CITY that students in other colleges would not find at all listed on their 'available classes' list. This past semester i took a class called, Erotic and Romantic Love which was SPECTACULAR. It was based on a psychological perspective which made it all the more better, other than it's uniqueness in itself. Academic studies, at CITY are so diverse and one-of-a-kind, the feeling of having the upper-hand or a different viewpoint on certain subjects is constant.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, just do not underestimate your schoolwork and the environment you are surrounded by. There is competition everywhere and in order to be successful, keep your head on straight and do what you have to do. If you find yourself slacking, don't get stressed and start picking out gray hairs...just find your path and keep focused.
In three sentences Currently, I am enrolling in my second semester of my freshman year at CUNY CIty College and on a scale from 1-10, I have to give it a 8. Throughout the four classes I took, 3 out of 4 of my teachers were AMAZING, which ideally makes the overall learning experience AMAZING. Finally, the environment and area that this college is set in, is quiet, peaceful and the campus is beautiful and gives an antique feel.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Although the campus is located in Harlem, a word that puts fear into the minds of many, the great lengths that this school goes to in order to keep its students safe is commendable. CCNY works with local precincts to have patrol cars roaming the streets around the campus, which is advantageous to commuters who have to use the subway/buses and off-campus students. Crime rates are pretty low compared to the universities near my suburban home in eastern Long Island.
Greek Life CCNY isn't very big on Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities During club hours (Thursdays from 12-2) is where clubs line up the campus at the start of the semester, giving out free food and information. Although there is a slew of clubs to choose from, the disadvantage is that many run at the same exact time during club hours.
Great for these types of students Future doctors (Sophie Davis program) CCNY is pretty much a well-rounded college, but their classical music program is the worst I've ever seen.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Shepherd Hall (music/arts building) has some of the most beautiful paintings I have ever seen.
Bang for the buck I might be in debt until my late 40s at the end of my medical education if it weren't for CCNY.
What to do for fun Anything and everything, all you have to do is walk 10 minutes to the 1 train and you have access to all of NYC.
Food and Dining Kind of pricey, but CCNY has a nice salad bar =) I give it 5 stars only because you can simply step right outside the campus and a variety of cheap places to eat are lined down the block.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms (the Towers), but from what I've seen going to visit people who do live there, it's not the best living area for the high price these students have to pay. Luckily, you could always live off campus but the apartment search is pretty grueling since the area around the school is pretty desirable.
Academic Rigor Being in the accelerated medical program offered at City College is academically challenging in itself and if you are pursuing smething otherthan medicine there is always Macaulay Honors. I have friends who are regular biology majors and the requirements are not a walk in the park, so you'll definitely be challenged one way or another here at City College.
Tips for prospective students Nights out in the city are fun, but don't be tempted to push your studies off for too many parties ;)
In three sentences City College is a caompetitive school for the reason that it provides a good education at such a low tuition rate. There are many specialized programs that add to this college such as the Sophie Davis School for Biomedical Education and Macaulay Honors. You'll never get bored after studying hard for midterms because though the subway you have access to the greatest city in the world.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I think there's something here for everyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Lavender Week- the school's color is purple so we wear it and it's a week of festivities. Beginning of Fall Semester- Plenty of parties and free events and a lot of music, DJ, and fun
What to do for fun Clubs, Exorcise room, Indoor Pool, HUGE Library, Friendly people, etc. It is what you make of it. Attending School in the city, plenty to do as long as you have money.
Food and Dining The cafeteria here has many options and there are several options to choose from inside the main building. Also a cafe in Marshack. Mind you, there are also plenty of small shops around the area so you can always grab bite to eat and satisfy almost any palette.
Dorm Life Can't Say. I'm a commuting student but from what I've heard, it's highly pricey and it's recommended to commute from your parents or find a job and rent an apartment.
Academic Rigor It really in all honesty depends on the class you take. Some classes are extremely easy. Others are more challenging. Either way, never underestimate the course because when you do, you gonna slip up cause you won't make the class a priority.
Tips for prospective students Apply for TAP and FAFSA! Don't Forget! Think about if you will be commuting or living on campus and if you would be willing to do so daily. Don't be afraid to seek help and reach out!
In three sentences The college is highly accessible and even offers shuttle service between the B/D Train stations at 125th and 145th. The food and book store is pricey but there are plenty of stores to eat in for a good price! Only thing is that in Fall, it's a bit crowded. Also this is one of the best in CUNY as well as one of the more pricier ones. Overall, I'm very happy here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety NYPD is campus security
Clubs and Activities Many clubs available
Bang for the buck for sure
Food and Dining I dont know. I only eat kosher. No kosher food on campus.
Dorm Life I don't know. I don't dorm.
Academic Rigor Again, it depends on the major. Engineering is pretty rigorous.
Tips for prospective students If you have a good GPA, look into applying for Macaulay Honor's program.
In three sentences Depending on the major, it's a decent school. The best part is the tuition is so much cheaper than private schools. Establish connections with professor's, many of them have good connections outside of the school.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I have a full ride, but even if I didn't, CUNYs are still cheaper than pretty much any college you could go to if you're a New York State resident and City in particular is actually a pretty good school =.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is really just for grabbing a bite between classes since it's nowhere near the dorm and we all have kitchenettes anyway. I try to avoid going there since it's overpriced, but people seem to enjoy it.
Dorm Life I'm in a two bedroom suite and I love having a suite and my roommate is great, but the suite mates seem to almost universally be a different story. There's also no sink in our bathroom and the kitchen is TINY. Also, hope that your next door neighbors don't do anything that smells too awful. The smell travels easily!
Academic Rigor It depends on the classes and your professor, honestly. I'm an English major, so it hasn't been horribly difficult. The honors classes can be a challenge, especially if you have certain professors.
Tips for prospective students Either make friends in classes, or join clubs. It is a commuter school, so it's not as easy to get to know people. A lot of my friends are people I dorm with or just people in the honors program/college, which is like its own club.
In three sentences I'm in the Macaulay Honors College, so my experience isn't the same as most students, but I've really enjoyed it. My courses are challenging, but not overly so, and most of my professors have been wonderful. It's a really supportive, friendly place, even if it's not perfect.

In three sentences Rigorous and competitive college for engineering majors. Professors are average and tuition is very affordable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe for an open campus. Always see security. Also, you need ID to get into every building, love that!
Greek Life Some Greek life, but not compared to the more traditional college or HBCU.
Clubs and Activities So many clubs and Activities, guarantee that's where you'll meet most of your friends.
Great for these types of students Every student, the campus is so diverse. Although if you are looking for the traditional college experience this isn't it, this school is def for the commuter.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During club hours sometimes different clubs will put on a show in the NAC rotunda or outside of the NAC which is our main building, pretty cool!
What to do for fun Mostly a commuter campus. But you have the whole New York to explore so that makes the school great since it is in Manhattan!
Food and Dining The NAC cafeteria is a NO,do not enter! Well, some students do eat in there. But the surrounding area has student favorites. The food choices around campus are numerable and affordable.
Dorm Life I haven't heard great reviews about our campus. Just over priced and not worth it. Its definitely a commuter school.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major the academics can get really extensive. The engineering and Pr/advertising majors primarily.
Tips for prospective students You should pick your classes early. Join the many activities on campus, great experience and internship opportunities.
In three sentences City College is a great school. Its affordable and you get a great education. The CUNY system is recognized in New York and the programs are phenomenal.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has a lot of security guards stationed at every entrance. However, they usually don't even look at the student ID card which we're supposed to flash as we enter.
Clubs and Activities The school has many activities that involve free giveaways. This with the low level CUNY budget is something I'm still awed by. The activities are hosted either during club hours between 12-2 when most people are on break or in the evenings to ensure max student attendance.
Great for these types of students Outgoing and social student will love the many activities. Students concerned about the environment will also like the measures taken to help the environment.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a balcony area perfect for lunch on hot days. It connects two of the main buildings on campus. On event days, students can view the large crowds bellow on the streets.
Bang for the buck It really depends on the teachers and the major you are pursuing. The engineering department has some pretty smart people. The teachers are a bit rough though..
What to do for fun Attend the many events held on campus, you will receive notification via email or fliers.
Food and Dining There's only one decent place to eat in the 2nd floor NAC cafeteria. There is also the cafe in the marshak and the 1st floor of the NAC. The halal food carts are awful, though they smell good. However, there are several good delis and take out places in the vicinity.
Dorm Life I don't dorm, but from what I hear from my friends and what I gathered from visits is that they are pretty easy going. The RA's are pretty chill if you don't drink or do drugs and stuff.
Academic Rigor The engineering classes require a lot of work. Especially because there are a fair number of teachers that aren't as good, leaving most of the learning up to you.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is always something going on, on campus so be aware of what is happening on campus.
Food and Dining I have not had any campus food because I am a commuter and I take my own lunch, but I have heard that the food is really good. I believe there are three places you can eat. There is even a cafe that serves healthier options.
Dorm Life I do not dorm, but I have heard that the dorms are really nice.
Academic Rigor City does have some really great Prof that make learning interesting and fun.
Tips for prospective students When picking classes always go on ratemyprofessers.com. That site is really helpful. But there are times that some Prof's get really bad reviews and when you go to the class they are not as bad as the review made them seem to be. So make your own call on that.
In three sentences First of all City has a beautiful campus. The students and most of the staff are friendly people. The professors, well you have really good ones..and some that are not so great.

Food and Dining the campus is amazing, but the food is not the best. CCNY could do much better
Dorm Life I did not dorm
Academic Rigor It is a fairly strict school. Students earn what they worked for.
Tips for prospective students I would say, it is a great school for engineering and sciences in particularly psychology
In three sentences City College of New York is a diverse school with people from all over the world, this helped to agin perspective about different cultures and religions. Professors are most very talented and helpful. On the other hand, admission is not always there to respond to students needs and the process system is very long
