Categories Comments Great for these types of students International, Commuting, Adult, Student Leaders, First Year Students(straight from high school, or never attended college etc..) and Disabled. If I missed anyone, I just forgot, it's good for everyone.
Tips for prospective students You MUST REACH OUT!!! It is a commuter school and with that there are a many students who put this school third on their list, are transferring from it or too it. If you reach out and use all of the Campus Services that are available you will have not only the best college experience but the most productive and beneficial time of your life!! Guaranteed.
Bang for the buck It's $2,300 a semester, that's $4600 a year, they have a pay as you go program called the hard time Deferment plan that pays Half of whatever you owe and there are jobs all over campus!!! The most you have to worry about are transportation( which the train/ bus and roads are all just a couple of feet away), food and cell phone bills.
Am enjoying being here I am very involved in my school. If you say I don't know what's out there or how do I get involved in Lehman go to the student life building. Ask for the Associate Director of Campus Life Mr. Ray Flook and meet him. From there your life will never be the same!!He knows a lot and what he doesn't know he'll point you in the right direction. Also Amanda Dubois of Community Service, Service Learning and First Year Students. She's Amazing as well.
Am learning a lot Go to RateMyProfessor.com, ask students, and you will avoid the difficult staff and professors. Then you will meet only the best and the most professional people you could ever encounter!!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Its a commuter school, so anyone who likes travel and meeting...interesting characters on the subway and/or bus would definitely like it here. Not to mention theres also a great gym facility here and good sports teams for athletes.
Tips for prospective students DO EVERYTHING EARLY! Its always wise to get everything out of the way before the last minute but since there are hundreds of applicants a year and limited staff, it should be a priority. I also recommend good SAT scores since without those you'll need to take a Compass test which is an automatic rejection if you fail.
Bang for the buck Any school is what you make of it, but overall Lehman is worth checking out since its close to Fordham Road which is great for shopping and food, especially since showing your student id gets you discounts at a lot of places.
Am enjoying being here Unfortunately if you're eager and have a lot of drive it will be a bit depressing being around most students here. A lot of them just don't seem to care, especially since the tuition is so low and financial aid is so great the only thing to lose by being lackadaisical is time until they cut your funding. But otherwise the clubs are great and events, though rare, are fun and worthwhile.
Am learning a lot The curriculum can definetly be challenging but generally differs from teacher to teacher. The FYI program for freshman is really great at providing a safe environment for first-timers by providing a block schedule for the first semester. Plus the college places high emphasis on the liberal arts, especially composition, so be ready to write.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Lehman is a great school for people that want to have a well rounded education. Since it is a liberal arts college, you'll be taking classes in various areas that will make you more aware of the world in whole. You may go into college with a major and taking the many distributed courses may indeed help you find the major that best suits you. On top of that there is a great support system behind, no one wants to see you fail and you shouldn't either. Lehman has over 80 majors, so there is something for everyone. You'll walk in as a uncertain student and walk out as a well trained professional. Lehman is a great school and should be one of your choices.
Tips for prospective students One thing I would say to prospective students is take advantage of every opportunity college offers you. If there is workshops that will help you become the best student you can possibly be, hey why not take it. It will indeed help you. Every place you visit on campus with questions will help you in every way possible.
Bang for the buck Since Lehman is part of the City University, tuition is not that crazy or expensive compared to private universities. You definitely get what you are paying for, however it depends how you spend your time on campus. One can go to the Career service center to help plan their future, the wellness center, the state of the art gym (Olympic size swimming pool, dance studio, weight lifting room and etc), the library, or the campus life building. However, it depends on how you take advantage of everything that is offered there and it's free for students!!
Am enjoying being here I have definitely made some great friends. The people in your classes are really easy to get along with. There are a lot activities that are always occurring. There is campus life building that is full with people, you could go there to study, social, or find student discounts to various Broadway shows. Also the college is not far from the train.
Am learning a lot As a freshman straight out of high school, I wanted a school that will make the transition a less hassle. The staff and the people you meet are really nice. My professors never bored me, they were interesting and knew what they were teaching. Lehman really surprised me.

Categories Comments Campus Safety walking around campus or even in the buildings there is usually a campus police duo roaming around the halls and campus
Bang for the buck prices on campus arent too bad, you can definately get a deal on some items or you can end up paying more.
What to do for fun the student life building at lehman holds many wonderful groups and activities for the students on campus. there is a games room, radio station, and out door athletic facilities free for anyone to use. the apex has a great gym and a wonderfully sized swimming pool for those on the more aquatic side
Food and Dining the food choices on campus are great! they have a wonderful diversity, anything from sushi to chinese to american and italian.
Dorm Life to my knowledge there are no dorms at lehman
Academic Rigor their standards vary depending on majors. for example, the nursing and business department are very strict and difficult to get into. others are lax and rather helpful
Tips for prospective students keep up a clean appearance and a close eye on the classes you need to take! lehman is all about how you represent yourself. if you look dingy and come to them with a disrespectful attitude you will get it back. also, keep an eye and stay up to date on the classes you need to take and ask questions, they wont tell you everything till the last minute.
In three sentences lehman college has a nice, open layout with wonderful lawns and great outdoor athletic facilites. their professors are all about helping you, the student, get the greatest education you can get and are willing to help you in any way possible. just keep up with the classes you need to take and you will have a great experience!

Bang for the buck cuny schools are more affordable especially for the out of pocket student, lots of payment options
What to do for fun after hours with classmates are always fun. you never know who you may network with
Food and Dining not bad prices and a few small cafeterias so you dont have to travel to the other side of campus
Dorm Life there is no on campus life only drawback for maybe a student that may want that experience
Academic Rigor some classes will definitely keep you on your toes
Tips for prospective students lots of online classes available. make sure you have your class outline prepared for your degree major set semesters in advance. give yourself time to take general requirements and pay attention to changes they may make in class requirements
In three sentences great campus like setting full of student activities to boost your love for the school. lots of concerts and plays for the theatre and music lovers. tons of campus parking and close to trains and buses

Categories Comments Bang for the buck The cost of tuition has gone up due to budget cuts in New York City, however, CUNY schools are still among the more affordable of options for those who want to pursue a degree in higher education.
What to do for fun In addition to campus events, and events that are hosted by specific clubs on campus, Lehman College Theater hosts a variety of concerts, plays, dance shows and more. The external events are sometimes discounted for Lehman students with a validated ID.
Food and Dining As far as the cost of food is concerned, the food is subsidized, so it's not as expensive compared to off-campus restaurants. The food selections are broad (e.g. they recently added sushi to the cafeteria menu) and you can usually find something to suit your tastebuds, whether you want a light snack or something a little heavier. The taste of the food is okay, overall, but it does the job when you want to grab something quick to eat before/after a class.
Academic Rigor Academic rigor, in my experience, is determined more by the professor you have rather than the actual course material. A really thorough and accomodating professor can make a rigorous course seem like a breeze.
Tips for prospective students Network, network, network! When you find a good professor, office administrator, student, etc. who is really excellent in a particular area, make note of that person's name and contact information. Having a go-to person who gives you accurate and up-to-date information is an invaluable resource.
In three sentences Lehman has a beautiful campus and the library and computer facilities are more than adequate for the demands of the curriculum. The student population is as diverse as New York City itself, however, there is still a comraderie among the students -- despite these differences. The faculty members that I've taken classes with have been knowledgeable in the related subject and make themselves available outside of the classroom for students who need additional instruction.

Categories Comments Campus Safety If at night you need help on being escorted to the train station, you can always use one of the buzz stations and a security guard will come and aid you.
Clubs and Activities Great variety to join, look into them when you've the chance to!
Great for these types of students Hard working, commuter, education focused people.
Bang for the buck Wouldn't have to worry about loans just yet, TAP and Federal Pell should help with the costs in the beginning. Definitely look into internships and scholarships very early however! Every dollar counts.
What to do for fun There are many clubs to join here, and tons of volunteer activities to do. It's also cool to sit on the grass and chill with friends, along with going to the APEX to exercise some stress off. Likewise, anyone can sit at the tables and bleachers just to sit and relax.
Food and Dining There's a Starbucks within the campus for those coffee lovers, so that's definitely worth checking out. And then there's the usual cafeteria that is made of stations that serves sandwiches made on the spot, salads to your specifications, Chinese, sushi, pizza, and many hot entrees for a lunch. There's also a huge selection of drinks, fruit, and snacks to choose from. And if you're not up to buying from the cafeteria to sit down and eat, you could always either grab a quick snack from the vending machine. The best for your buck though would be to grab some halal food at the cart nearest to the gate leading to the train station outside. The man that runs it is the best!
Dorm Life While there is student housing available, most people that come to college live at home or have an apartment, as Lehman's more of a commuter campus. It's more of a community feel here.
Academic Rigor The classes are your usual 20-30 students to one professor, but that's cool. Makes getting used to college classes easier. The work is a little more than what you probably did at high school, but that's expected. Still earning a quality education at a good price.
Tips for prospective students If you've no idea which college to start off at, unsure of where to go while keeping costs low, Lehman's the place to be. You don't have to buy the textbooks for every class, wait a while before making the decision to. And always keep up with the material!
In three sentences If you're looking to keep costs low and still have a quality education, Lehman's a good place to start. Transitioning here from high school is easy, and everyone on campus is welcoming and friendly, and the campus is quite beautiful too! The perfect size and find to everything, it's got history and flair.

Greek Life There is a Greek life club and a couple of org members around the school.
Clubs and Activities There are a huge range of clubs for example anime club, newspaper, dance club, community service clubs and a Greek life club.
Bang for the buck Tuition is pretty affordable defiantly worth it.
What to do for fun Student life building offers games like xbox, ping pong, pool tables & a whole bunch of clubs.
Food and Dining Food is pretty good a bit expensive but no worries many other options are available near outside campus.
In three sentences Overall great environment, feel like your upstate but your actually in the city. There are a huge range of classes available to any interest.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I personally feel very safe on campus. No one asks for ID but outside of the campus beware. We are in the Bronx so the types of individuals you encounter outside of the campus may not be too thrilling.
What to do for fun It's a commuter college so there are no dorms. What to do is pretty much study and go the manhattan on your free time since it is so close to public transportation.
Tips for prospective students Get informed! Take the initiative now that your applying for colleges to get all the information you can. Plan and study hard as well as make as many connections as possible.
In three sentences Lehman college is highly organized with rigorous academic standards. The professors are all highly qualified and offer immense assistance with any career needs. Also the school is located 45 minutes from NYC through public transportation.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is found nearly everywhere, with booths found at many of the gates, security cameras Lehman does well with security.
Greek Life If there is a greek life at Lehman, its nearly non existent so for those of you that want to join any sort of sorority, Lehman's not for you
Clubs and Activities Although I have only played pool, and ping pong about three times, the amount of clubs and activities that Lehman has to offer is more than enough for the average Joe.
Great for these types of students Lehman is great for students that are serious about school. The majority of people i tend to meet at Lehman are nice, educated, economically disadvantaged, and very eager to learn which makes it a great school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One unique thing about this campus is that there are underground tunnels that run throughout most of the school. This is very beneficial because when it rains, snows, or its just too cold, the underground tunnels are a major convenience yet oddly they tunnels are not used all that much.
Bang for the buck Being a public college, the bang for the buck when it comes to food, on campus activities and tuition is fantastic, with an average tuition of around 2,700$ a semester, many private colleges just cannot compete.
What to do for fun Walking around the campus, visiting the student life center to play things from Xbox, pool, to different clubs.
Food and Dining The food selection is very average compared to most colleges. With your choice of Chinese, Italian, American, salads, snacks, and many other choices.
Dorm Life Dorms are not currently offered at Lehman.
Academic Rigor Had some pretty fantastic teachers here.
Tips for prospective students The online system that CUNY uses is very confusing and is down every now and then. Be prepared to stumble and get lost every now and then.
In three sentences Lehman College is a good school that is definitely underestimated. When it comes to the students there all nice and here to learn. A plus of attending Lehman out of the many CUNY campuses is that it has the best looking campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The security is on point and there are rarely any problems, they are punctual and they handle everything in a smooth manner.
Clubs and Activities The clubs on campus are fantastic there is basically a club for anything you may be interested in so it is good to check out the campus newsletter and emails.
Bang for the buck There are deals to be found now that you can rent your textbook for the semester. I also photocopy the chapters we will need for the class by following the syllabus.
What to do for fun I go to the movies, plays on campus, parties on campus, music evenings and I also go to Broadway and watch musicals and other Broadway shows.
Food and Dining The food on campus is good but a little pricey, I say stick to off campus dining it will be better for your wallet if you are on a fixed income.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms but I haven't heard anything negative about them.
Academic Rigor If you want to be a A student you have the opportunity to do it here because excellence is rewarded.
Tips for prospective students I would say stay on top of your classes and utilize the writing center because it can be very helpful to have someone proof read a essay before you turn it in.
In three sentences Lehman is a good school, the teachers are knowledgeable about the subjects that they are teaching and they are willing to help students who are having difficulty in different areas of study. The Lehman college community is diverse so you will be interacting with a lot of interesting people and learning about new cultures.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Lehman College has a great security staff. They are always patrolling different parts of the school. The security staff at Lehman can communicate easily with each other and are made available at a moments notice.
Greek Life I am not Greek, but I am sure that it would be a blast!
Clubs and Activities Lehman College has a wide variety of clubs and organizations that a student can join. Please make sure you visit the student activities center for more information.
Great for these types of students Being that I am an ADP (Adult Degree Program) student, I would highly recommend Lehman College to any adult who has been out of school for a while and is planning on returning. Lehman is on your side when it comes to customizing a school schedule that helps one continue to meet the responsibilities associated with with family and work.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Lehman College is very close to the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, and the Wildlife Conservation Society. While on campus, a Lehman College student can take part in sports, arts, clubs, and theatre.
Bang for the buck The cost of a college credit at Lehman College for an undergraduate and matriculated New York resident is $230. My tuition cost for the fall of 2012 is $2,904.
What to do for fun Personally for me, fun means watching plays and movies at the Lovinger Theatre, as well meeting new people and making friends. I also thoroughly enjoy physical fitness and using the gyms located in the Apex Building.
Food and Dining In regards to food and dining, Lehman College has two coffee shops and one main lunchroom. The main lunchroom located adjacent to the basement of the Lovinger Theatre serves full meals, such as burritos, salads, chinese food, pastas. In addition, you can get some great Spanish food in the neighborhood.
Dorm Life Unfortunately, I do not know too much about dorm life at Lehman College. As an Adult Degree Program student, I have my own apartment in New York City. From what I understand, most students share living spaces with their families and/or roommates.
Academic Rigor Lehman College is as academically challenging as any other school. A student that does his/her reading, completes assignments and attends class will get a great and well-respected education. After all, a lot of successful people have originated from the Bronx i.e. Edgar Allan Poe, Margaret Bourke-White, Ralph Lauren, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and many others.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should simply visit the Lehman College campus. One would never think to expect how much Lehman College has to offer in terms of academics and extracurricular activities. Hopefully, I will travel to Greece next summer and be a part of an archeology course as an exchange student in July 2013.
In three sentences Lehman College peaked my interest with its fully-equipped and recently constructed state-of-art multimedia center. Additionally, there are two gymnasiums along with an indoor swimming pool which is open year round. Lehman College is definitely the school for me!

Tips for prospective students Be proactive - find out textbooks so you can loan them from the library. Talk to your professors throughout the semesters about grades.
In three sentences Lehman College has small classrooms and personable professors. This gives it a homely feeling. The favorite part about being at Lehman College is being able to talk to your professors.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Theres so much to do! Theres always some kind of activity in the middle of campus informing students of the things available. The botanical garden is near. The yankee stadium.
Food and Dining The food is pretty appetizing. The prices for a meal are not too pricey but individual snacks are.
Academic Rigor It all depends on the teacher and class. Most teachers are pretty easy going and will try to help the student out with the office hours given.
Tips for prospective students Although one may have difficulty time managing since college is such a different world from high-school, not PROCRASTINATING is the best tip. Getting your homework done the same night given is a major stress-reliever.
In three sentences Lehman has wonderful encouraging staff member and mentors. If you get involved in campus clubs or organizations, you will meet people who help open doors for you; making the college experience a tad easier.

Categories Comments Campus Safety People think because it's in the Bronx it's unsafe, and there are incidents of theft on occasion, but as long as you stick to the campus and Bedford Park Boulevard, it's actually pretty safe. It's a commuter school in nyc so drug and alcohol use rarely happens on campus, and there is no violence to speak of. It might be safer than your bigger more illustrious campuses honestly.
Greek Life There are two fraternities and maybe one sorority? If you want a serious Greek Life go elsewhere, this one is in a very premature stage.
Clubs and Activities Very little campus life, but there are a bunch of clubs for just about any interest. If not, you can always start one with relative ease.
Great for these types of students Non-traditional students. The entire college is almost tailored to the needs of a non-traditional student. If you're working, if you have a kid and can't be full-time, if you have no money but want an education, etc.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Lehman has a pretty swanky performing arts center, which is cool because some serious performances happen there. There's also a nice open quad, which is normal for most schools, but unheard of for an nyc campus.
Bang for the buck Yes the staff and student body are wholly unspectacular, and yes there's almost no campus life (this being a commuter school, after all) but there are a few gems in the staff, and students, and of course you're living in the greatest city in the world. If you're looking for the real college experience, don't go to ANY CUNY. If you're looking for affordability and a decent education though, Lehman fits the bill.
What to do for fun Well, you are half an hour from Manhattan, that's the bonus. Chances are you already live in the city if you're going to this school, but if not then there's no better place to come than CUNY for the nightlife/value combination.
Food and Dining Food is decent, but there's no meal plan and it's a little more expensive since everything is a la carte. They are improving in that respect, but if you have the time you're still better off going down Bedford to a diner or pizzeria.
Dorm Life There is one brownstone that fits maybe 20 students. It's close to school, but that's about it for this place. A bit overpriced, a lot of loud housemates, and you're living in the Bronx. It's a commuter school, it's not made for dorming.
Academic Rigor This is a commuter school with a high number of non-traditional students. It's perfect for that because the majority of the staff have lowered their standards, but if you're a full time student then it's a mediocre challenge.
Tips for prospective students For the really ambitious students, look into the Macaulay Honors College. It's a scholarship program at the CUNY's (any of them, including Lehman) and you'll get better professors, classes, and students to work with. As well as a full scholarship, laptop, money, etc... worth it for sure.
In three sentences Lehman is good value, and if you're looking for a nice campus in the city then you won't find a better one. However if you want a real college experience, are truly ambitious, and want to be challenged by your peers and professors, look elsewhere. Professors are, for the most part (there are a few awesome exceptions), decent though unspectacular, and students are (mostly) incredibly unmotivated.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus overall from what I have experienced is good when it comes to safety. Public safety is always around to keep things in check, and there are cameras in most of the bldgs.
What to do for fun join activities, check out plays on campus, swimming, track, etc.
Food and Dining the food on campus is very affordable, and also there are also food carts outside of campus that are even more affordable
Dorm Life I wouldn't know I live off campus(much more affordable)
Tips for prospective students 1. When studying, always go to library, or computer labs 2. If you have a long break in between your schedule, if possible apply for federal work-study to fill in the gap of your schedule and have that extra money 3. If you want to know if your professor will be good/bad before you sign up for them visit ratemyprofessor.com to see comments of other students who have had them prior to signing up for a course.
In three sentences Lehman is wonderful for its academics they a wide variety of majors to choose from, so you cant say I don't know what to do. Its part of the CUNY system which means that its inexpensive with its tuition The department are always willing to help you out as far as when it comes to work-study, because having that little bit of extra money in your pocket to pay for books, metrocards, or on-campus food(which is delicious) is very helpful.
