If you love the outdoors, this is the place for you! Tons of beaches, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and other cool outdoor attractions are a short walk or drive away. On campus activities are also plentiful, but the outdoors are what really make the SLO location unique.

Visit the beach. Go downtown to shop, get frozen yogurt or visit the farmer's market. Go hiking, running, biking or otherwise get outside and enjoy the weather!

Cal Poly is filled with amazing things to do. First of all it is completely surrounded by nature. Hiking, camping, mountain biking are some activities to do here. Not to far away from campus is places like Avila Beach and Pismo and these are the real fun places. Hanging out on the beach, surfing, and the sand dunes are great things to do on the weekends too. Not to mention there is greek life and numerous clubs on campus.

There are mountains 360 degrees around San Luis Obispo, where you can hike to the peak or climb its rocks. Morro Bay and Pismo Beach are close neighbors for a more romantic setting. Cal Poly has its own bowling alley and arcade center. Best of all, Cal Poly has a massive turf field (3 soccer/football fields in length) and an even larger grass field (three more soccer fields, PLUS three softball fields with alot of space between them). The community is very bike friendly, with bike lanes on almost every street in San Luis Obispo, so a bike ride is very nice. We have a rock climbing wall.

The central coast is one of the premiere locations to study in the United States. There are tons of outdoor activities such as hiking, the beach, and bike rides. The bar scene is pretty fun being in such a small town. There are also many attractions near by such as the Pismo Dunes, Hearst Castle, etc.

San Luis Obispo is NOT a big city, so don't expect a booming downtown with crazy nightlife. However, if you're into a smaller town feel with beautiful nature and outdoor activities, this is the place to be. Downtown is quaint but weekends can get pretty busy as restaurants and bars are open late and offer plenty of discounts and promotions. Avila Beach, Pismo Beach, and Morro Bay are all within 15 minutes of Cal Poly and can make for some incredible day trips and sightseeing. There are also dozens of hiking and biking trails in the surrounding mountains.

There is a lot to do for fun. If you have a car, the beach is only ten to fifteen minutes away. There are buses that take you downtown where there is lots of shops and restaurants. On campus they have a lot of events like concerts and laser tag to get people involved. There is also a great rec center on campus with a pool, track, gym equipment, and a variety of fun and interesting classes to take.
