Religious Serious about strengthening your walk with Christ Friendly

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus to make sure that you can see yourself there for the next four years. There is a program called 24@CBU for high school seniors in which you can stay at CBU for a day. You stay with current students, sit in on classes, and experience life as a CBU students. There are two opportunities to attend 24@CBU and they are both during first semester (Sept-Dec). Visit http://www.calbaptist.edu/24/ for more info. Apply for scholarships to help with the cost of the school.

    Bang for the buck

CBU is very expensive but do not let that deter you from the campus. There is plenty of financial aid available from the school. I encourage you to apply for scholarships and trust in God to provide for you. I feel that I get what I pay for at CBU. The campus is beautiful, the cafeteria food is amazing (I actually want to eat in the cafeteria), the professors are helpful, and the academics are great.

    Am enjoying being here

At CBU you are able to grow not only academically but spiritually. I love that in only four months of being at CBU, I have grown stronger in my walk with Christ. There is mandatory chapel. You must go to 15 out of 21 chapels a semester. If you miss one chapel you fail chapel and it negatively affects your GPA and if you pass then nothing happens, you do not get academic units and it does not help your GPA. I do not like that you receive nothing for passing chapel but I love the services so it does not bother me. The students at CBU are extremely friendly. It is basically impossible to not make friends. Overall, I am having fun at CBU and enjoying myself immensely.

    Am learning a lot

Two of my favorite things about California Baptist University are the class sizes and the professors. You will have small classes and will have the opportunity to get to know your professors. I have only been at CBU for a semester but my largest class was 114 students. This big of a class is rare (in fact there is only one classroom that seats this many students) and this class was only this big because it was Old Testament Survey, a class that most take to complete their required units for Christian Studies. The professors that I have had are nice and committed to helping their students.

    Tips for prospective students

It's a great deal of work to attend a private university like CBU, but I guarantee that it is worth every dollar! Don't let the cost daunt you! If you're committed to going there and you trust in God's plan, anything can happen! Just remember-- always make sure you know when your deadlines are!

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to study, write papers, and read more than you ever have before. Throughout my previous years in school I maintained a high grade point average, but I still have to work very hard to maintain such a high GPA in college. Do your best to get involved in at least one sport, club, or bible study group. The friendships, memories, and values you'll gain are life-changing and it will make you feel home away from home.

    Bang for the buck

I will admit that CBU is very expensive, but so is every other private university. The christian environment, caring professors, and lifelong friendships you'll make guarantee that the high cost of enrolling at CBU is truly worth every penny!

    Am enjoying being here

I am still amazed everyday at how much of a blessing it is to be attending CBU and to be able to live on campus. The faculty is so friendly and helpful. Even my professors truly care about my grade and they strive for me to succeed. The professors really care about you as a person and they are available to help with school or even things that aren't school-related. I love my school and I can't imagine being anywhere else!

    Am learning a lot

I have only completed one semester, but I have learned so much! Not only have I completed three general education classes, but two others that are specifically for my major as well!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with students around you! Sign up for activities if you schedule allows. Make sure you have time to study; many people neglect their studying and this can put you on the fast track to failing a class.

    Bang for the buck

This school is good, however, it is VERY expensive and I would make sure you have a budget outlined to see if you can afford it. Scholarships from this website can definitelly be a great help. That is the one thing that made it possible for me to attend this school.

    Am enjoying being here

There are a lot of activities that happen around the campus weekly. They are always encouraging students to get involved with the campus and community.

    Am learning a lot

One thing that is a definite plus about attending CBU is the teachers. They are constantly striving to help you succeed and will try to be there whenever you need them. They are very informative and you will hopefully, gain their knowledge.

Great for these types of students

Religious. medium school close for southern cal.

    Tips for prospective students

Please visit CBU. You will experience something so different than other colleges. CBU is truly concentrated on your walk with Christ and isn't a school where they pretend they are Christians. They do walk with Christ.

    Bang for the buck

What i know,it is expensive, but the Counselors are truly committed to help you and with Financial aid. There's many Scholarships to apply to.

    Will enjoy being here

The Campus is great! Its so peaceful and everybody is always being friendly to one another. The Food is awesome, there's so much variety to choose from. The campus is very clean and makes you want to stay there all day. chapel is very energetic, worship is such a blessing.

    Will learn a lot

I went to the Spring Preview, and just in one day going to the class visit, i noticed so many things. the teachers are very friendly and they make their classes interesting. What i liked the most about their teaching was that they also talked spiritually about God and your major.

Great for these types of students

-Friendly -Conservative -Those interested in Nursing -Those who like a small campus feel -Christian (denomination doesn't matter) -Those interested in international mission trip projects

    Tips for prospective students

As a freshman you have the option to live in a dorm or in a cottage. I lived in a cottage and loved it. There were 3 bathrooms in each cottage, as well as a full kitchen with a little living room area. My cottage-mates and I became like a family. Also, don't wait to talk to teachers and ask for help if you need it. Try to be as open as possible when making new friends.

    Bang for the buck

If you are looking into nursing, this school is a fantastic opportunity. The nursing students are dedicated and hardworking, and will likely find jobs immediately after graduation. I would recommend knowing exactly what you want to do with your education here before you become a student. If you have a plan for your college career, then I firmly believe that CBU can help you succeed. Look into getting as many scholarships you can!

    Am enjoying being here

I love this school. The campus is beautiful, the students here are friendly, and the overall feel of the campus is positive. It was incredibly easy to make friends here. I came to the school not knowing anyone, but when we got out for summer, I left campus sad to leave all my friends. The reason I put 4/5 stars is because of a few things I would like to change about the campus. I wish that there were more opportunities to get involved with student activities. I went on almost every single outdoors activity they offered (great weekend or day trips for a great price!) but you have to really be creative to have fun on campus all the time. Also the cafeteria has a few good meals, but not a lot of healthy options or opportunities for variety if you are constantly eating there.

    Am learning a lot

As a pre-nursing major, my academic course load was heavier than the average student. With this major, it is impossible not to learn something. The 4 unit science classes are intensive but fascinating. In my general education classes, such as English, Psychology, and Mandarin, the classes were easy and I did not learn as much. However, I based my rating off the science courses, because that is essential to understanding for my major. The teachers are available to help if you need it. All of my teachers have a passion for teaching and want their students to pass. This type of environment is positive and helped me immensely.

    Campus Safety

The Fiercest! they don't just lay down the law they tuck it in too!No segway cops here folks! just don't bring your bike! bike theft is the kryptonite of campus safety, but hey no ones perfect!

    Greek Life

No frats sorry, but tons of great clubs! Baking club for example............4:1 ratio!

    Clubs and Activities

This is where CBU really shines! From the creative writing club to the UFO exploration club?!(yes it does exist) there is something for everyone, and if none of the clubs seem to tickle your fancy just start your own its as easy as filing out a five question paper!

Great for these types of students

Anyone really! The student body is exceptionally diverse, its like the UN! If you're tired of the boring routine or want to try a college experience unlike any other than CBU is the place for you! Hey that rhymes!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Ever heard of the tower of men? jk...well. CBU is literally overflowing with traditions from the annual forutuna flag football tournament(they had fireworks!) to the Lancer Cup soccer tournament and midnight madness (they gave away a wii and an ipad this year! who does that?) there is always something to celebrate at CBU. So till we meet I'll CBU later! ( I started that one!)

    Bang for the buck

Ok i know what you're thinking for $33,000 it better be an incredible experience , and don't worry it is. As far as housing and meal plans go it really is a pretty amazing deal. For only a little over $2,000 you can take advantage of brand new apartment housing for 4 months. that's only $500 a month for a new apartment! and if you apply to be an RA its free! As far as eating goes for about 1,500 you can purchase a 175 semester meal block plan with weekly rollover! All in all after factoring in all the award money you're bound to receive, and you will get some I only had a 2.5 high school GPA and they were still very generous, it really is quite affordable.

    What to do for fun

There are tons of fun things to do on campus at any given moment. I enjoy spending my free time playing Futsol(street soccer) with friends or having late night jam sessions with my band, or even just kicking back and watching a movie at amc with a 7$ ticket bought from campus life. Oh and did i mention that the mountians and beach are only 45 min away? Wooo! 4:1 ratio!

    Food and Dining

Out of every college campus that ive visited(and ive been to quite a few in my travels) none of them compare to CBU's usually top notch cusine. Just stay away from the sushi rolls, Scetchy!

    Dorm Life

Simply the best if you go into it with the right attitude. Your dorm experience is exactly what you choose to make it. Oh and DON'T GO HOME EVERY WEEKEND!

    Academic Rigor

Really depends on the classes and the program. Nursing and engineering programs are incredibly difficult and selective but everything else isn't too tough.

    Tips for prospective students

Maintain a GPA of at least 3.3 to be eligible for academic scholarships. They have rolling admission so you can apply at the last minute if you're in need of a school but apply early to take advantage of their generous financial awards.

    Campus Safety

CBU has an excellent Department of Public Safety, complete with an emergency text alert system and gates that require CBU student ID swipes to open them. They respond quickly and they can be called for a late-night ride across campus, which is especially great for the ladies.

    Greek Life

There is no Greek system on campus. There is just one, big community.

    Clubs and Activities

CBU has a great and competetive recreational sports department with open-sign-up teams that includes dodgeball, flag football, volleyball, soccer, and basketball. CBU has clubs for nearly every major. At the beginning of each academic year, CBU has a club fair for students to find out what is available and get involved.

Great for these types of students

If you are an average student, or an exceptional one, CBU has something to offer you! If you are looking for a good balance of education and fun, CBU is a great option for you!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

-CBU has a very unique pep rally called The Crazies. Nearly the entire student population dress up in their CBU Lancer best and gather in the gym. And the school spirit is on! -If you step on the school seal in the Yeager Courtyard, you have to run and kiss the class ring statue on the other side of the courtyard. Don't mess with the seal! -The Lovely Lady of Fortuna is a fountain along the front of the school... rumor has it she will bring you good fortune and luck. Alot of CBU couples go to Fortuna to make commitments to eachother, and often, to pop the question. Ring by Spring! -If you are in the Alumni Dining Commons, also known as the Caf, and you drop your tray, don't be surprised if the entire caf breaks into applause on your behalf. We all appreciate grace and poise! :)

    Bang for the buck

CBU is expensive, no doubt. But what you get for the price is worth it. Smaller class sizes, a close knit, community-oriented campus, and well-renowned majors make CBU a desirable college to attend. And guys, did I mention that the girl to guy ratio is 5:1?!

    What to do for fun

CBU is constantly putting on events. They truck in snow for Christmas, hire cool bands like The Daylights, have huge bonfires, go to pro baseball games, and 10,000 water balloons for a very wet fight. Our homecoming celebration this past fall included a full scale, 10 minute long firework show on the front lawn, just for us! They also have a great and competetive recreational sports department with open-sign-up teams that includes dodgeball, flag football, volleyball, soccer, and basketball. If you're looking for off campus fun, CBU is an equal distance to the mountains and the beach either direction (about 45 minutes to an hour). Nearby attractions include Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and various ski resorts in the mountains.

    Food and Dining

CBU's Alumni Dining Commons, aka the caf is a dining staple, even for those who do not attend CBU. The caf has multiple food stations that change every day. These include a full salad bar, fruit bar, waffle/breakfast bar, dessert bar, and six all-food stations. You need to visit to get the full effect! It's amazing!

    Dorm Life

The dorms separate girls and guys into separate living areas. But don't worry, they do a lot of mixer events so that everyone gets to interact. Campus housing includes dorms for two, on campus apartments for between 2 and 5 people, and small multi-room houses called the Cottages. The RA's are awesome and the up-keep is great!

    Academic Rigor

CBU is going to give you a great education with a global perspective. The school faculty is highly qualified and your success is important to them! Each professor has office hours available for help outside class. The academic workload is manageable. It is challenging in a good way!

    Tips for prospective students

CBU's most well known (and well respected) majors include Nursing, Engineering, Theology, Liberal Studies, Music, Theater, and Business. However, there are many, many more options. Look into the different majors and check out the Financial Aid Department. There are lots of sports, academic, and music scholarships available through the school. If you are interested in visiting, CBU hosts an event called 24 on campus several times a year. This is an opportunity for prospective students to visit the school, spend the night in the dorms with current students, and experience campus life. Check it out at www.calbaptist.edu

    In three sentences

CBU is the place to be if you are looking for a smaller, community-oriented, and serious academic school. CBU's motto is Live your purpose. If you don't know what your life purpose is yet, CBU might just be the place to discover it!

Great for these types of students

Christians who want to grow closer to Christ People who enjoy a relaxed lifestyle and classroom setting

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard to get financial aid Ask God if this is where you should attend

    Bang for the buck

This is a very expensive school though not the most expensive. In order to attend you have to already have a lot of money or a lot of financial aid. Don't get in debt, but don't count yourself out. Apply and see how the Lord provides. It's worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus environment is great. The weather and food are fantastic and the students and staff are extremely welcoming. Growth as an individual is a priority and it shows in the attitudes of the staff. Campus life is very laid back, but safe. It is really easy to get to know new people because of the accepting environment. The lifestyle promoted by the university is one in which God is first. This is reflected in the ease with which one can get connected to a Bible study, prayer team, or a church.

    Am learning a lot

Thus far CBU has not been all that academically challenging. Many of the lessons that I have learned have been spiritual in nature. The class in which I am learning the most would be my New Testament Survey class. As a student raised in the public school system I find it refreshing to be on a campus where the Bible can be studied, not just dismissed academically. I have not taken any higher level courses which will be harder. (I am in Biology- premed) CBU is a great bet academically for those who are entering Music, Nursing, Business, and especially Engineering.

Great for these types of students

Those looking for an excellent Christ-centered education.

    Tips for prospective students

Make a campus visit! Ask to see the area where you would spend your time studying your prospective major (ex: engineering students, ask to see the engineering building). Ask questions about the campus and the atmosphere. Try to come for a wednesday or friday chapel: you won't be disappointed! Don't be scared by the financial figures... There is a ton of financial aid available.

    Bang for the buck

The overall tuition is pricey, but don't let that scare you. The financial aid is spectacular. The school itself has many scholarships to help you out, and what you do pay doesn't go unused. The campus is gorgeous, and you receive a great education while attending.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love the atmosphere at CBU. Most everyone is friendly, and I have made many friends while on campus. Exhortation is something that is prevalent, and I am very thankful for that. The fact that the entire campus is biblically based is something I love. There is always the opportunity to grow in Jesus Christ, as well as to reach out to others through the community events and trips that occur.

    Am learning a lot

The academics here are fantastic! The largest class I had in my first semester was about 30 people. All of the professors are open and willing to help. You can always find a study session to attend, or if you prefer peace and quiet, the library is perfect. Even with just one semester completed, I have grown so much academically!

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is great, I was never worried about anything happening to me while on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs, events and inter mural sports to get involved in at CBU and they are all fun and you hear a lot about them.

Great for these types of students

CBU is great for students who want to be at a smaller college but still feel like they meet new people everyday. It's also great for students who want to grow in their faith.

    What to do for fun

I went to the beach, amusement parks, the movies and the mall all the time with my friends, it's all in reasonable distance from school.

    Food and Dining

Between the ADC and Briscos there is a good food selection and sometimes you get tired of it but that comes with any food you eat for an extended period of time. But it is good food.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorms my freshman year and loved it. It helped me to connect with people on my campus and some of the girls that I lived with on my hall are my best friends now and will be for a long time.

    Academic Rigor

I am a psychology major and so far I am loving my major and the department and all of my professors. It's a good amount of work but its rewarding.

    Tips for prospective students

If your looking to go to California Baptist University I would recommend getting great grades so that you are able to pay for school because it is a little pricey but its worth it.

    In three sentences

I love CalBaptist and I wouldn't go anywhere else to complete my schooling. I have made great connections, friendships and grown closer to God. It's a great school.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is present everywhere and at all times on campus. Students should feel very safe while on-campus. The campus safety escort system is a little slow to action though.

    Clubs and Activities

There is just about every club you could possibly imagine on the campus of CBU. They are a great place to meet people with similar interests and have a good time!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Woo fest, March Madness and the Man Auction are all great traditions and so much fun to participate in!

    Bang for the buck

CBU is significantly overpriced. Although students are frequently given the opportunity to attend free events, and provided with a beautiful campus CBU is not worth the amount you pay.

    What to do for fun

On-campus there are frequent events that can be a lot of fun if you apply yourself. Attending sporting events, participating in intramural sports or going for a swim in the pool can all be great entertainment.

    Food and Dining

The food at California Baptist is incredible! Students have a variety of on-campus dining areas to chose from that are each filled with fresh delicious foods.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are a great place to meet new friends but the actual rooms are terrible. Cockroaches are often seen in dorms and the are frequent problems with the plumbing.

    Academic Rigor

The upper division classes can be very challenging. The professors are very professional and have high expectations for their students. If you are just taking basic general education courses you have no need to worry, they are incredibly easy.

    Tips for prospective students

California Baptist is a great school to attend, just don't enter it with incredibly high expectations. There are a lot of on campus events so be sure to attend them and get involved, this makes settling in and finding friends much easier.

    In three sentences

California Baptist University has a beautiful campus filled with wonderful people but fails to live up to it's name as a Baptist school. Professors are very welcoming and friendly but few students share the staff's religious beliefs.

    Campus Safety

The security group does a pretty great job, making sure that everyone on campus is legitimately there with an appropriate purpose. I've always felt safe and comfortable on campus.

    Greek Life

    Nonexistent.

    Clubs and Activities

So many to list so the predominant few are thus: choir (of any kind), theater, intramural sports, random campus games and the occasional happenings sponsored by the school.

Great for these types of students

Christian founded students. Students that either already enjoy or desire a place that supports a very strong, close-knit community feel.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Many: Fortuna Fountain, The Seal outside of Wanda's, The Kugel at the entrance, the front lawn is important. There are the volleyball courts. Fortuna Bowl is the flag football championship, and it's HUGE, as the school has no football team. An In-N-Out truck comes out and helps. We also have a TWIRP (The Woman Is Required To Pay) week, a woo week (the reverse of TWIRP), and other special weeks that happen.

    Bang for the buck

I sometimes wish that I was witnessing certain changes for the better along with my money, but the raises lately haven't been completely justified.

    What to do for fun

Attend any school sanctioned events! Attend sporting events, where the school spirit is high. Feel your competitive edge come out in intramural sports. Go to a local choir concert and have a nice time with the gospel music! Hang out at Brisco's or a friends apartment on campus. Blow some steam on the beach volleyball courts. Go sit on the front lawn and play catch or enjoy the sun. The game room is free and full of fun. Just enjoy the entire campus!

    Food and Dining

To be honest, almost no other college would even receive a 3 star rating by my standards. CBU does work really hard on making their food top quality with the food company Provider. However, the food becomes quite routine with little variance, so try not to get caught in the rut.

    Dorm Life

Campus life in general is wonderful. The dorms arrange a lot of activities for people to participate in, almost on a weekly basis at least! Furthermore, the entire campus and residents are constantly invited to different events and activities that are pretty fun! Main beef is with the visiting hours curfew. Though I believe some regulation is appropriate, it's borderline legalistic.

    Academic Rigor

I do know that many students get by with easy work (in my opinion) and get relatively nice grades. However, there are a few incredibly difficult and legitimate classes that I have either been in, or watched my friends struggle through.

    Tips for prospective students

When dealing with the registrar's red tape always talk to department heads and administration first. For me, though they can help sometimes, the registrar is a last resort. Additionally, don't make the assumption that Student Accounts and Financial Aid are the same department with two heads. They are located adjacent, but separated in function and power. Don't step on the seal ever, and make sure that you eat at Brisco's more often than in the cafeteria. It will save you from gaining a bit of unwanted weight. Trust me, the ADC (caf) can add many undesirable calories. Lastly, with a longboard, make sure to keep it on you at all times!

    In three sentences

California Baptist University is a school that takes a lot of pride in being excellent at everything that it has control over. This ranges from academics to athletics and everything in between. However, the greatest thing about CBU is the focus on community life here; I've never been to another school that's comparable in student life affairs!

Students who enjoy smaller campuses and who want to grow not just academically but spiritually as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Live on campus if you can. Use the library and other resources to your advantage. Do not slack on your FOCUS assignments. Keep track of your chapel attendances.

    Bang for the buck

Although pricey, it is well worth your money. Unlike other universities in California, at CBU you are guaranteed to find classes for you major and you do not have to worry about your major being impacted. Also, at CBU you will be addressed by your name and not a number.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus. I love it so much I am trying to see if I can live on campus next year. Everybody is so friendly and the campus is beautiful and it is also very clean. Being on campus, you will feel welcomed and you can feel the amount of faith that surrounds you.

    Am learning a lot

The class rooms are small enough to get one-on-one time with the professor. All the professors have a strong grasp on the subject they are teaching and teach with a passion.

EVERY ONE, especially those who are looking for a solid faith based education and interesting in serving and getting involved with campus activities.

    Tips for prospective students

You should definitely consider coming here however it is not for everyone. The expense, location, and majors may not be to your liking, but you should seriously consider coming here.

    Bang for the buck

It is relatively expensive to attend this University but they make up for it by offering a plethora of free actives, food, and t-shirts. Your money also goes towards a beautiful apartment, breath taking landscaping, and accredited professors.

    Am enjoying being here

CBU has such a beautiful and peaceful environment. Even though it is located in Southern California where its known to be fast passed, the campus is situated perfectly in Riverside where you're not isolated, yet not crowed. Their buildings and classrooms are all newly furbished and equipped with the necessary items to make your stay here pleasant. There are numerous amounts of opportunities here to get involved in and thrive. There's service opportunities, as well as fun events each month that unite you with the rest of the campus and specifically your living area.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot of information here and the teachers do an excellent job of apply the new information with applicable examples as well as options for around the world. As you learn these new exciting things, you will also obtain a solid Biblical foundation. The class sizes are perfect and the professors are 100% willing to work with you. There are many other opportunities to learn and grow outside the class room like chapel twice a week, Christian Chapel, and other groups like that. It's a great place to come and learn

Great for these types of students

California Baptist University is great for anyone and everyone. Although it is a baptist university, and holds faith in Jesus Christ being savior of this world, and is dedicated to fulfilling his commands, the school is very tolerant, and never tries to force their beliefs on anyone.

    Tips for prospective students

California Baptist University offers a wide range of majors and minors, and the students, classes, and professors are some of the best around, and it's rare having all of them in one place. The school is a bit expensive because it's a private university, but you are sure to enjoy it, and make many new friends and relationships.

    Bang for the buck

The facilities, classes, professors, food, student body, and the school itself are all fantastic. There are buildings that are still standing from when the school was founded in 1954, but they are all standing strong, and are diligently maintained. In addition to buildings that were there originally, California Baptist University has purchased much of the land around it, and continues making renovations on existing buildings, as well as recently built facilities, and buildings that are being constructed.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone at California Baptist University is friendly, and being on campus is an experience you don't feel often. Everyone actually cares about you, individually. I love being there, and actually get a little sad when we have holidays, and have to leave campus.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at California Baptist University are dedicated to their jobs, and ensuring that you, as a student, are understanding and excelling in your studies. The small classes create a more in-depth classroom experience, and give the teacher more one-on-one time with each student individually.

The campus is beautiful but outside of our gates the area is not very nice.

    Bang for the buck

Its great to come to school here, although it is not the college experience I thought it would be due to the lack of social groups and activities it tends to be tough to meet new people.

    What to do for fun

They have different events on campus, but there is not a big social life on campus.

    Food and Dining

Everything is so clean and they have a great diversity of food!

    Campus Safety

This university has panic buttons throughout the parking lot and during orientation, they tell you what number to call if you are ever in need of help or just want someone to walk you to your car at night. If anything mysterious happens, the office of public safety will email all students right away so they are informed of the situation and can take precautions.

    Greek Life

There isn't any greek life at this private Baptist university.

    Clubs and Activities

ASCBU plans all of the great activities I have talked about thus far. There are also many different clubs you can join. If you can't find a club that interests you, the university is very open for new ideas.

Great for these types of students

This university is perfect for serious students who are interested in an education, not a party school. It is a baptist school and it is great for Christians who want to grow in their faith.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have the traditional Fortuna Bowl. This is a huge competition of flag football and it is a huge deal for our school. We also have Twirp week where the girls will ask a guy on a date and pay. Then later we have Woo week where the guy will ask the girl and pay. There is also a secret echo place by the flag poles that is really neat to find. Ask someone who has been there for a while to show you!

    Bang for the buck

This university is more expansive than some state colleges because it is a private university, but it is well worth it. I can see that my money is being put to good use and not wasted on useless things. I also get a good education out of it.

    What to do for fun

There are volleyball courts, a pool, baseball fields, and a wide open field to play soccer on or any other sports you may be interested in. The school plans many functions/activities throughout the year as well. They have activities like midnight madness, recess, and Fortuna, just to name a few fun events they plan.

    Food and Dining

There are many different dining experiences at this university. The main cafeteria has many different types of food to choose from so everyone can find something they like. If you want to meet with other commuters for a quick bite to eat, Wanda's is a perfect place to go. The new restaurant on campus named Briscos is fast and easy to go to on the run. They even have meals to go when you are running late to class.

    Dorm Life

I don't have experience living in the dorms because I am a commuter, but all of my friends that do live on campus absolutely love it and they feel as if they are at a home away from home. They feel comfortable and safe there.

    Academic Rigor

This university involves a lot of group projects. The professors have an open door policy so that if you don't understand something, they will make sure you understand it. There are many opportunities to go on missions or study abroad and learn about other cultures.

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend saving money so they could live on campus so they can get the whole experience of college life. I also recommend that they concentrate on doing well in high school so they will be eligible for scholarships from the school. Once they are students here, I recommend that they get as involved in school activities as they can.

    In three sentences

California Baptist University is based on a Christian perspective that I agree with and appreciate. This university is a very friendly atmosphere and everyone is very helpful and caring. The professors actually take time to get to know you and actually show they care about you succeeding.

housing is one of the strong points of this school. they make sure that the rooms and service are at their best and cleanest. the ras of the dorms are friendly and useful most of the time.

    Academic Rigor

rigor is not really encountered often in many of the classes. if the material does get to be a little challenging, many of the teachers tend to baby the students. good or bad depending on your preferred college experience.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you visit first because the campus and the population is much smaller than you might think. admission isn't all that difficult so it might be a good safety school. if you care about your religion and want to be a part of a whole community that does so too this is the school for you.

Since the college is located near the center of Riverside it is 5 minutes from restaurants or shopping. the beach is only 35 minutes away, and there are indoor rock-climbing places in Riverside as well. Also the colleges academic club puts on events during the week for students to participate in. Has something for every type of student

    Food and Dining

Great variety. It is all catered food and changes daily. goes from sushi to home-cooked meals, has something everyone will enjoy.

    Dorm Life

I am currently not living in the dorms but from my fellow classmates they seem to enjoy it. the only negative i have heard was about the Internet bandwidth, but the college recently upgraded their system and since have heard nothing bad about it.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on the program your studying. Newer programs like engineering and construction management you should expect them to be tougher just because the college is trying to make its mark in the field.

    Tips for prospective students

Have a plan for the degree you want to go for. even though it may change based on your experience in different classes, it will limit the amount of time you spend here and ultimately the amount of tuition you have to spend.

The campus security guards are ALWAYS driving around in their golf carts keeping watch over the campus, day and night. If there is a time where you don't feel comfortable walking across campus, there are these long blue boxes scattered around the campus and on them they say Emergency. If you hit the blue bottom, one of the security guards will come around and pick you up and take you to where you need to go, safely and efficiently.

    Greek Life

Due to the fact that we are a private, Christian university we do not partake in the involvement of sororities and fraternities.

There are a plethora of clubs, activities, and leadership roles to become involved in, you will never have to worry about not being involved in some way or another. Student Government (ASCBU), office of residence life (RA'S and admission hosts), community life, cooking club, Spanish club, fitness club, and many more. :)

Great for these types of students

CBU is big on accepting and welcoming international students. There is a whole club/group dedicated just to international students to help them get acquainted with the school and feel comfortable and welcome. Office of International Life. CBU has students from everywhere including Rwanda, China, Germany, Asia, Australia, the Dominican Republic, etc. CBU is also a great place to be if you would like to strengthen your relationship with God, and/or are very big on worshiping God.

We have this event at the beginning of the year called TWIRP, and it stands for the woman is required to pay. For one whole week, the school hosts these different event and the girl has to ask the girl to go with her. This past year for TWIRP they had a free Tyler Ward concert, a barn dance at a real barn dancing area, a bbq with where TK burgers catered, and on Saturday we went to Knott's Berry Farm and tickets were only $15, and much more.

    Bang for the buck

CBU is an expensive school from the start but as the year goes on, you can see where all your money is going. CBU offers free tutoring all week in every subject (this has been a BIG HELP for me in chemistry), free t-shirts at least twice a month for different events, a free game room to take a break from the stresses of school, a computer lab with about 30 to 40 with unlimited computer access for current students, and also the student government office offers free printing/copying services, free scantrons, a variety of school supplies, and free candy. :)

    What to do for fun

There is a mile about 4 miles down the street from the school called Tyler Mall, and that is where a lot of the students like to go. Another popular thing that a lot of students do is go hiking, there is a paved hike trail at Mount Rubidoux, about 15 minutes away. I have never been hiking in my life and I went there this past year and absolutely loved it.

    Food and Dining

The food at CBU is outstanding and you have so much to choose from. One of my favorite parts about the food and dining is the richness and quality taste of the soups and deserts.

    Dorm Life

I just completed my freshman year and I lived in the dorms. I loved living in the dorms, they provide an awesome sense of community and a way to be involved in all that is taking place. CBU residence life pairs the roommates very well, and a lot of people are perfect matches with their roommate. In the dorms, you become very close with your hall mates and it feels like family.

    Academic Rigor

I feel like my classes really challenge me and make me think. The teachers are also very helpful, and you are able to have a connection with them.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I would say just keep your hearts open to all that CBU has to offer. It may seem like a small school but they are constantly growing as this year our freshman class was the biggest class yet with more than 800 students. The school only has about 4,500 students but that is what makes it special is having a smaller population to keep it personal. PLEASE, PLEASE don't look make a decision based off the price of the tuition. CBU offers a good amount of financial aid, and don't forget about your FAFSA and other scholarships. :) God has provided for me and if it wasn't for him making a way, I would not be able to afford attending CBU.

    In three sentences

CBU is a safe and secure campus, as public safety is always driving around to keep watch. CBU provides a warm, friendly campus atmosphere and everyone will make you feel welcomed, as it is also centered around Christ. :) The education at CBU is outstanding, and you have that opportunity to have a teacher-student relationship with your teacher where they can really get to know you.

Public safety if constantly patrolling the campus. CBU is called The Bubble because it is so safe and protected.

    Greek Life

There are no sororities at CBU.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many different clubs! There is the math club, anthropology club, health science club, workout club, and film club just to name a few. And if there isn't a club for you, you can always create your own!

Great for these types of students

CBU is for students who want to be able to get classes when they need them, for students who want to graduate on time, have fun without all the partying, grow in their faith, and of course, learn.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a seal located on campus, and you are never to walk on it! Also, there are catacombs underneath one of the main building of the school, the building is supposedly haunted. You can get onto the roof of the James building, which is a pretty cool hideout on a stressful night.

    Bang for the buck

It is rather expensive, because it is a private school, BUT, you will never have any problem getting classes, because CBU is not over crowded like also all state schools are. The activities that CBU has are well planned and usually include food, and free t-shirts. The price is high, but the experience, classes, professors, and events make it worth it.

    What to do for fun

Disneyland and the beach are two things that many of us CBU students do for fun. There are a few line dancing clubs around, which may not sound like fun, but it really is. Also CBU has activities going on on campus all of the time.

    Food and Dining

Best college cafeteria food ever. Sunday brunch is to die for. People actually come from off campus to eat in out cafeteria. There is also a restaurant called Briscios that offers sandwiches, and salads. There is a new restaurant opening fall 2012 that is going to offer different types of pasta. All of these are options that use the meal plan.

    Dorm Life

I loved the dorms. They are small and simple, like most dorms, but they are great. The girls and guys live in separate buildings, and there are designated visiting hours. Not having guys in the dorms is great, there is so much less to worry about.

    Academic Rigor

It is college, so obviously it is difficult, but compared to some other schools, I would say it is a bit easier.

    Tips for prospective students

For new freshman, live in the dorms your first year, not the cottages, the dorms have a great sense of community and it is a great way to make strong relationships with the girls you are going to spend the rest of you college life with.

    In three sentences

This is a great schoo for people looking for a Party- Free enviorment. There are always classes available, and the professors are all very gracious understanding people. It is a place for people of all religions, but if you are a Christian wanting to grow in your faith it is also an amazing place to do so.

There are several activities, clubs, and sports games to get involved in at CBU that having something to do for fun is not a problem at all. There are open fields to play football or soccer on, as well as the school will host carnivals and bonfires. CBU is also not far away from the beach or the mall and movie theater.

    Food and Dining

CBU has one of the best foods and dining areas than any college I have visited! There are several food places on campus that are available for students to eat at, and there is a variety of food offered. The food at school is served in a clean and organized structure as well.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms is an absolutely, life-changing experience. The Resident Advisers are chosen very wisely and connect so well with their residents. There is no better community than the bonds formed with those you meet and live with.

    Academic Rigor

There are so many opportunities given to students that will help them keep their grades on a high. Professors have office hours and are very flexible, there is a library and computer lab available on campus, tutoring sessions, and plenty of curricular activities that students can engage in. The Professors at CBU want their students to do well, so they are very personal and flexible with their time.

    Tips for prospective students

There are many traditions that CBU has that are fun. TWIRP week has been around for a while and it stands for The Women Is Required To Pay. It is a week where the girls ask the guys on dates, but you have to be creative in the way you ask them and of course as tradition says, the women HAS to pay. There is another tradition like this were it's the guys who have to try and woo a lady of there choice in a creative manner as well and it's called Woo Week. For those of you not sure about CBU but want to check it out, the school does this event called 24@CBU where you can tour the campus for a day and even spend the night in one of the dorms and get the full CBU experience.

    Bang for the buck

    Campus Safety

The campus safety at CBU is unbelievably excellent. Security officers will even come assist students at any time of night to give them rides to their prospective living areas. Emergency buttons are placed in strategic areas around campus that will assure the person sending the alert that help is on its way.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs available at Cal Baptist that enable students to learn, along with their fellow students and professors, on the subject of what they are passionate about through discussions and hands on activities. The academic clubs also often allow students to work with professionals in their field so that they can be better prepared for entering the work force. Clubs catered to more leisurely activities such as the cooking club also allow for fellowship while learning fun cooking ideas. Activities offered at CBU are, intramural sports, Christian Challenge meetings, and on campus concerts.

Great for these types of students

This University is wonderful for a student who enjoys learning about their selected field, while having an incredible community environment and countless student activities to participate in on a daily basis. Students who want to grow and develop as individuals and understand more about how they play into the picture of this world will enjoy the many opportunities provided. Those who want to grow in their faith in Christ, or even learn more about Him and how to integrate Christian principles into one's lifestyle will love this school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a Great Commission globe at the front of the school that students touch before leaving on service projects, at the time of arriving at school, and the day of graduation. We also have a fountain called Fortuna and she is a goddess that was placed there before the University existed. Our annual intramural football game is named after her. We also have a tradition not to walk on the seal of our school in Stamps Court Yard in order to preserve lancer pride.

    Bang for the buck

CBU is an expensive school to attend, but you really do get bang for the buck. The experience of being a college student here will be irreplaceable. Students will learn more about themselves and how they can make a difference in their work places and community through a Christian perspective. Students at Cal Baptist will learn so much about their chosen field and be prepared to enter the work force when finished with their education.

    What to do for fun

Because CBU is only about an hour or so away from the mountains or the beach, many fun activities are available to a student. Surfing, snowboarding, and hiking are very popular among students here. We also have a great game room with a pool table, foosball, and ping pong. Our school also offers great intramural sports like volleyball, flag football, and basketball.

    Food and Dining

Our Alumni Dining Commons is an amazing place to dine because we have so many options to pick from. There are usually five different options for a main course, a salad bar, ice cream, fountain drinks, a waffle maker, and other deserts. Our Sunday brunch is the best and people from the community come to our dining area just to eat our delicious food. CBU also offers food on-the-go at a restaurant called Brisco's. Here, students are able to grab a sandwich, salad, or other boxed meals to go or to eat with friends at a nice outdoor/indoor area. Night time snacks can also be purchased here through the meal plans and can be enjoyed by a community building fire pit.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is wonderful at CBU. Hall events and dinners with those who live near you help create a great community for all. The residential advisors even take your schedule, desired areas of study, and sport involvement into consideration for roommate selection. The RAs on staff are always very helpful, responsible and set a great example for the freshman that live in the dorms. They can be contacted at any time and are always ready to be of help. After the freshman year, students live in apartments on campus which also offer a wonderful community environment. Events like coffee houses or worship nights help to bring the student body closer together. Friends are very easy to make at CBU and most people are very welcoming and inclusive.

    Academic Rigor

Our school is challenging academically, but not so much that one does not have a social life. Our teachers grade fairly and are very interested in being a key part in a student's success in life. They care about students as individuals and because our classes are not too big, students have personal attention for questions they may have for their teacher. If one applies themselves here, they will likely succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

I would tell a prospective student to explore our Music Program because many opportunities are given through it such as performing weekly for the community through one of our touring large choirs or vocal small groups. I would also encourage anyone to seek out our International Service Projects which provide opportunities for students to help the less fortunate in other nations and be a blessing to them. Also, our school offers a major for almost any area of study desired. In addition, our athletic program is thriving in the NCAA division.

    In three sentences

California Baptist University will exceed any student's expectations in so many areas. It offers many opportunities for growth in countless areas of study, preparing all for the work force they will soon be a part of. The campus is very beautiful and its location caters to many exciting activities.

    What to do for fun

The recreational center always provides discounted tickets for a couple of theme parks, theaters, and sport games. It does have some board and table games; ping-pong is most popular. Intramural sports are scheduled every year; soccer, football, volleyball, and basketball. Also, I'll make it sound cheesy but respectable dating time is available, if the guys are chosen. Yes, ladies, you will be the ones to provide the dating game. It's still fun though. And there are other local activities outside of campus; of course at a price. Recommend Downtown Riverside during Christmas.

    Food and Dining

The main dining center might not have the finest quality of food but variety is served. There is a sub-station for quick-ordered meals, too. Just be careful not to gain so much weight because of either services.

    Dorm Life

Like I mentioned, try to keep your housing clean, especially if your housing is an apartment. They are cozy, except for the beds, unless you're super exhausted. Housing activities are very housewarming and fun; sometimes a bit corny.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the programs are tough, especially the math-/science-related courses. However, the professors have a bit of leniency if you notify reasonably. Studying hours are recommended when the courses seem easy, but you will see the difficulty at the end of the course.

    Tips for prospective students

Accumulate in funds as much as possible; it's like a typical private school when business is mentioned. In other words, tuition is crazy!! The fall semester is extremely hot at first, but gets colder in the Thanksgiving time frame, so pack for both seasons. Keep your housing clean as much as possible because there are surprise inspections during the school year quarters by RDs. Enjoy and take advantage of all the school's activities and student recreational facilities; they are worth your buck. Be active in your spiritual walk; there are always groups there to help you there. Future engineering students, drink a lot of coffee!!!

    In three sentences

If you want to be spiritually active, academically and biblically intellectual, and relaxed when stress from work and courses accumulates, CBU is an outstanding school able to build these personal standards. It is a God-balanced environment w/o the isolation of the outside; an interest of providing help/aid to the outside.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is great because they have many securities going around the parking lot. They also provide with emails that inform us important events or news that might be going on in the school.

    Greek Life

They have no Greek life clubs.

    Clubs and Activities

There are various clubs that you can attend that even provide trips to different countries, and if they like to travel this would be a great experience for them.

Great for these types of students

I believe that this school is great for students who want to attend a school close to home if you live around Riverside, as well as for students that do not want to attend a big school. This school is also great for students that have very big christian beliefs because the classes are based of christian studies.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

This school is a private school so we have to attend a church ceremony two days per week and it is no units, but if you do not attend the church then you will most likely fail the semester. It is called chapel attendance, and they give the most amazing speeches that touch your heart and soul and make you think about life. I love all of the chapel meetings because they help you think about the real world and know that god is their with you through all times. Their are people that come and give testimonies on trouble they have gone through and it is amazing to hear this people.

    What to do for fun

I believe that getting into the clubs in this school would be where all the fun is concentrated in as well as meeting new students and making friends. Everyone has their own club, so for nursing it is called Sona and it is a great way to make friends and get help from each other.

    Food and Dining

The food there is amazing, and everything is very neat. If you love food you will love this school because it has great food. There is the aim food court that is set up as a buffet and you can eat as much as you want. The food choices change all the time so their is a variety of voices from breakfast to lunch and dinner. They have amazing deserts as well. The re is also Wanda's and that have great food and it's a mix of American and Mexican food. They always have different daily specials and they are all tasty.

    Dorm Life

I do l not be live in the dorm, but the dorms are beautiful and very clean.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is appropriate because some higher level classes are harder but they are want to be but the school doesn't start you of at those classes you have to move up through the years. It is a great school to learn, because all of the teachers are understanding of the students circumstances. The classes if they are hard then the students can always ask the teacher and tutors for help, but so far the hardest class I have taken there was Anatomy and physiology but I ended getting a B. Perseverance is key I'm education and also wanting the education.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for prospective students is to never give up, to keep moving forward towards your dreams no matter how hard you believe them to be. I believe that giving up is the worst thing anyone can do. Also don't to be nervous about a new school because it will be okay and all the staff is helpful and friendly. There will ways be people that are going through the same situation as you and will be there to help you out at all times, so just ask around and you'll find a answer.

    In three sentences

The staff in this school is very helpful. The school is one of the most beautiful campus I have attended. It is a very diverse school which I believe is great. The classes are small and there is more interaction between students and teachers. All of the teachers are willing to make time to help out the students with any academic and personal problems. I have recently started the nursing school and it has been an amazing experience. It it a tough program but it is compensating. All of the teachers are nursing professionals and they all have gone theought what we went through what we are going through and they are always happy to help and answer all questions. The nursing program has great resources and the skill lab is great to study and practice techniques. Their is always a teacher there to help out with anything that is needed. It is a great school to attend and they have one of the best nursing programs.

This school has some fun traditions they do. Like there own intramural soccer world cup and super bowl for their intramural flag football teams. Midnight madness which most everyone looks forward to, which is one of the only times music for dancing is played and you're allowed to have fun.The pre party for this event only started maybe 3 years ago.

    Bang for the buck

This school is ridiculously expensive. Unless you come from an upperclass family, debt is a promise. I'm actually not sure what bang for the buck really means. I hope this review was accurate c:

    What to do for fun

They have a couple events each month and intramural sports. But this is not a party school whatsoever and Riverside is not a fun place to be. Weekends are dead. But this is southern california so you have to drive to find something to do. Overall there's only so much fun things to do at this school. If you're not christian or athletic fun is very very limited.

    Food and Dining

The food is healthy mostly and the quality is great but it gets old after the first year in my opinion. The same set of food is served every week. When there's nothing to eat, there's always pizza, salad, fruit and fries.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life for everyone I think can either go really good or really bad. Only freshman can live in the dorms and they set it up so if you actually try you and your hall/ roommate will become very close. There are events every month sometimes more than one. Again, not much to do on the weekends unless the people on your hall do something together. If you don't want to make friends you won't, if you do you will. Upperclassmen live in apartments and it's actually way harder to connect with people at this point.

    Academic Rigor

The general ED like most colleges I would assume is easy and it's easy to pass at this university. Some general classes are set up where only a few assignments count for your grade and there's no homework meaning it's hard not to pass. When you start getting in the upper division the work obviously starts getting harder.

    Tips for prospective students

Be aware this is a christian campus. If you're not christian you'll have to just tolerate that most of the students and teachers are and a lot of activities are centered around religion. You're going to want to find other activities to do during the weekends because this school is dead during the weekends. If you're religious I'd say this is a great school for you. They constantly have worship stuff to do, prayer stuff and help you strengthen your bond with God.

    In three sentences

This school is okay. It's very expensive like every private school. The education quality I would say is good and the professors are overall knowledgeable and caring/understanding.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, it's expensive at about $17,000/semester, but the campus is beautiful and the environment is unlike anything you will experience anywhere else. It's worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

CBU is located about 40 mins from Disneyland, 1 hour from the beach and 1 hour from the mountains. Plus, downtown is only 10 mins and there are always activities happening on-campus, from the game room to sporting events to coffee and music nights outside our cafe.

    Food and Dining

We have the best Alumni Dining Commons with a full salad bar, cereal, waffle irons, ice cream, soda fountains and 4-6 different entrees to choose from each meal. The best part, there is always pizza and everything is buffet style!

    Dorm Life

While they can sometimes be loud, the freshman dorms are a great experience with close commradery and plenty of fun activities to keep you busy! Apartments for upper-classmen are nice though. It's a chance to start living more independently.

    Academic Rigor

While there are some professors who really push the students, often times there are complaints made that the competition is not fierce enough.

    In three sentences

California Baptist University has, by far, the most welcoming and interactive community. The campus is beautiful, the professors are personal and the things you learn are PRICELESS.

We have a huge Biology club and the teacher who runs it is so great. Dr. Koo is the most fun loving teacher I have ever met and that says a lot coming from me because my mom is a teacher herself. The Biology club helps out future doctors and the steps it takes for us to get into medical school. We have no school dances but we do have a lot of fun activities. Every week there is some new event ready to swing into action and we always practically get a free T-shirt.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

On your first year there we have this tradition of running through a big crowd and touching the world globe. Another tradition we have is not to catch eyes with a statue by the Art building. If you look into the statues eyes then you will put bad luck on yourself.

Our school hosts tons of events in the main court yard or in each living area, so there's always something going on during the evenings. A lot of weekends are spent going to the beach, going to Disneyland, heading up to the mountains for a hike or camping, or even just heading down the street to the mall.

    Food and Dining

CBU is known for how great their food is in the cafeteria. Everyone loves the open buffet available for all three meals of the day! We also have another dining area that serves food that you can eat there or take with you on the go.

You can go to any of the school dinners, sports events, concerts, or events that the school puts on. We are also really big on intramural sports.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing! We have superb cooks at all of our dining areas on campus. It isn't the freshman 15 at CBU, it's the freshman 45 just because you eat so much good food!!

    Dorm Life

The dorms on-campus for freshman are not very special and are kind of small, but the administrators are big on community. All of the other housing areas for upper-classmen are very nice and updated.

    Academic Rigor

The classes definitely challenge you, but the professors are more than willing to help you with anything you need. They love getting to know their students on a personal level and want to make their classes as easy to understand as possible.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely get a meal plan, but don't over-eat because of all the good food in the all-you-can-eat cafeteria; make sure you still stay active. Staying active will be easier with the new recreation center with gym equipment that just opened up this month.

    In three sentences

It's a great school that is super friendly and feels like home. All of the staff members and faculty love getting to know you and help you as much as they can. CBU is an overall great school, with awesome amenities, wonderful food, and they are determined to help all students find and achieve their purpose in life.

NO GREEK LIFE AT ALL! IF YOU WANT A GREEK LIFE DO NOT COME TO THIS SCHOOL.

    Clubs and Activities

There aren't many activities or the ones that one can do. Some are fun but they are rare only a few times a year.

Great for these types of students

Great of Christian students. If you are not Christian they try to force it on you. If you have no religion they all look at you like the devil. If you are not Christian you should not come here.

    Bang for the buck

Education is worth it even though it gets extremely expensive. You pay a lot of money and you do not really see where the money goes in the school.

    What to do for fun

Almost NOTHING! Hardly any parties. You cannot even dance on school events. If you want to have fun you need to go out of the school to downtown Riverside or the UC Riverside.

    Food and Dining

Really good food but they repeat foods often. Sometimes the only thing to eat is pizza. Great desserts and variety of drinks. Waffles are the best!

    Dorm Life

All boy or girl dorm. You get treated like if you are in high school. You can only be on opposite sex dorm twice a week and three hours each day. No tobacco or alcohol allowed. You cannot be swearing or you will get in trouble. Over the weekends dorm life is dead!

    Academic Rigor

All teachers are well educated and will help you in any way. Classes are small therefore teachers put extra attention to you. Easy classes to pass since teachers cannot fail over a third of the students therefore they work to make classes not so complicated.

    Tips for prospective students

Get a job and save money because it gets really expensive and apply for scholarships.

    Dorm Life

The living options are incredible at CBU! The freshman may live in dorms or Cottages. Sophomores - Seniors live in apartments. There are no unpleasant places to live on campus. All living situations are very agreeable.

    Academic Rigor

It truly depends on your major how academically rigorous the course is. If one is a science major the academics can be intense and are competitive, so one ought to visit the professor's office hours to become fully aware of the best way to excel in that course.

    Campus Safety

Most of the time, Cal Baptist is fully safe. At other times, there's robberies and car thefts.

    Greek Life

Cal Baptist has no Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are great clubs and activities at Cal Baptist, but sadly, not that much ... but no worries, Cal Baptist significantly grows every year.

Great for these types of students

Cal Baptist is great for those wanting to study something Big, Christian Studies, Philosophy, and Applied Theology, or double major. Also consider Cal Baptist for it's Architecture program (the Dean of the Architecture school happens to be trustworthy and respectable).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Cal Baptist has too many unique traditions. However, I'd like to point out that Cal Baptist does have private, picturesque locations on campus. To use them, all you have to do is find them.

    Bang for the buck

Despite it's hefty price tag, I've only have had to pay 1200 out of my own pocket. I feel like I'm paying for Cal State tuition. :) Which is a plus. However, make sure you're able to pay for 2/3 of the tuition. If you end up having to pay for more than $10,000 through your own pocket, and loans, do not attend Cal Baptist. You'd be better attending another college or university. Also, only take out Federal Subsidized loans (and not even a single unsubsidized loan). Private loans will haunt you if you take them out. Believe the horror stories you read about those taking out private loans.

    What to do for fun

For fun you could attend campus events by both students and faculty, join or start clubs, participate in Bible study groups, etc. However, Cal Baptist is unique in that it happens to host some interesting events through the year. For this part, you'll have to ask students yourself.

    Food and Dining

Although I don't have a meal plan, I've eaten in the cafeteria before: the food is amazing. Cal Baptist also happens to host other eating areas: Subway, Wandas, and Briscos. All the which happen to serve excellent food.

    Dorm Life

Irrelevant to me as I happen to be a commuter. However, from observing students who live on campus, the majority of them seem happy. My advice to incoming freshman is to live in the cottages their first year.

    Academic Rigor

The work at Cal Baptist is both challenging and manageable. Assigned readings and essays will comprise the majority of your work. However, if you explore school's academics more than the average student, you'll find something exciting to work on.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know the Faculty and Professors at Cal Baptist. They want to know you not only as their student but as your friend. At Cal Baptist you'll be required to take (3) Christian Studies courses. The school advises that you take Old & New Testament Survey before taking your last required Christian Studies course. I say you should instead take the lower division requirements for the Christian Studies Major (only 4 courses). This way you not only study the Bible, but you study it properly, and more in depth. Although a meal plan isn't required for commuters, get one anyways, even if it's the smallest meal plan. Remain Undeclared for your Freshman year. Use your freshman year to not only finish your general education requirements, but to explore the school academically. Take advantage of the events hosted at Cal Baptist. They're all unique and worth attending at least once. If you're a commuter, don't go home right after classes for your first month at Cal Baptist. It's important that you have a strong beginning at Cal Baptist, or for any college or university for that matter. It's not necessary to find your true love your freshman year, or enter the college experience just yet. Use your freshman year to understand the new environment you're entering as opposed to just conforming to expectations. If you plan on studying Engineering, Music, Architecture, or Nursing, then just study one of them. If you're studying anything else, double major or pick up an minor. A diverse study is not good for yourself, but possibly impressive to future employers. I would like to give you more tips, but I've blown up my page as it is haha

    In three sentences

California Baptist University is a great university for those wanting to study in a spiritually driven environment as opposed to a secular one. The goal of a Christian University is to help its students develop a clear identity of their intellect and spirituality as opposed to a new identity. So take my rating seriously when I say California Baptist University is not only progressing academically but is respected for its School of Christian Ministries to develop the identity and minds of its students.

For some reason, whenever someone drops their tray in the Cafeteria, people begin clapping.

    Bang for the buck

It's not that expensive, but not that cheap. The meals at CBU are typically 13 or 14 dollars depending on where you go. But CBU is really generous on giving away free stuff. Tuition is the hard part, because it is a private institution, they charge a lot of money unfortunately.

    What to do for fun

Hang out with friends, do some intramural sports, participate in the events that are going, there's always something there to excite you.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing, you'll love every single meal you have there!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are so much fun, but just be sure you get ear plugs.

    Academic Rigor

It'll be tough, but what makes it easy is the hands on learning. The classes are typically small, so you'll definitely be able to talk to the professor as much as you need to. Don't forget about their office hours!

    Tips for prospective students

Um. Make sure you get along with your RA, because they'll do a lot of stuff for you.

    In three sentences

The environment is awesome. The food is awesome. And the learning is awesome.

    Bang for the buck

CBU is expensive, no doubt about that. However, the school usually makes good use of the money it has. The campus is beautiful, the food is delicious, the professors are great, and the living facilities are pretty nice. I've also given CBU the nickname of The School of Free Stuff. Seriously, you get free stuff all the time. Free Chik-fil-A, free shirts, free candy, free scantrons, etc. There's also free counseling and low-cost health care on campus. I think CBU is worth every penny, and I absolutely love it there.

    What to do for fun

Fun?? I'm a science major! We don't have time for fun! All kidding aside, there aren't really that many things to do for fun on-campus. There are random events like fairs and movies, but they can be kind of lackluster. There's a rec room, but it's small. There is also a pretty nice gym that everybody and their brother uses. The weather is usually good enough for playing some sports outside, like badminton or basketball. I would say, though, that if you want to go do something fun, it's better to go off-campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is delicious and healthy, with a good variety. I would give 4 and a half stars, however, just for the fact that there aren't very many eating places. You have the cafeteria, two to-go places, and Subway, but those are the only meal-swipe places. There is a coffee shop that commuters primarily use, since it doesn't accept meal swipes. Also, meal plans are mandatory for residents, which is kind of a pain. I will emphasize that the food is VERY good, however.

    Dorm Life

I've never lived in the dorms (just the apartments), so I can't comment on that, but the living facilities are, from what I have seen/lived in, very nice and clean. Maintenance will usually take care of problems promptly, and people are friendly and usually considerate. There are usually events for residents going on a couple times a month, so that can be fun if you're into that sort of thing. Also, the RAs I've had were great, caring people. Nothing to complain about here.

    Academic Rigor

Overall, CBU isn't too difficult academically, but it really depends on the program you're in. I am in the science program taking classes like biochemistry, organic chemistry, and physics, and I would be lying if I said it were easy. Also, professors here, while very friendly and often lenient, care enough to not let people get away with laziness. If you're having real difficulty, they're there to help, but if you just don't feel like doing the work, you'll more likely than not get the grade you deserve. Classes are small, so don't think you'll just be a face in the crowd, either. Do your best, if not for the professors, then for yourself (and for whoever is paying big bucks for you to be there).

    Tips for prospective students

It's true that you only need a pulse to get in, but make sure you can afford it! CBU is pricey, so grab every scholarship you can and plan each year in advance so that you'll know you won't run out of funds.

    In three sentences

CBU has a great community of friendly faculty and students. The campus is clean and beautiful, with delicious food and nice living facilities. Lastly, the education you receive at CBU is excellent academically, but it goes beyond academics and helps you to become a better person.

California Baptist University provides a lot of after school events that bring the whole community together. We've had Grandparent's Day, Midnight Madness, and TWIRP (The Woman Is Required To Pay). There's so much to do, it's pretty hard to find nothing to do.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Meet new people that are familiar to the school and the city! There is tons more to do outside of school rather than just at school.

CBU recently opened a new gym on campus. The gym features a basketball court, rock climbing wall, workout equipment (weights, treadmills, ellipticals, etc). The gym offers a number of workout classes facilitated by student trainers. There is a swimming pool for more aquatic-oriented students to work out. There are a number of clubs on campus that encourage students to get connected by participating in fun activities. The student government also puts together fun activities like concerts, quidditch matches, and zombie runs. The recreation office offers equipment rentals for use on and off campus (paddleboards, surfboards, etc.)

    Food and Dining

Food at CBU is served based on a card-swipe system. At the beginning of the semester, students sign up for a Meal Plan, and their student ID card is loaded with X amount of card-swipes which can be used at the Colony Cafe, Brisco's, or the Alumni Dining Commons. The ADC is set up Food Court style, with all-you-can-eat. Brisco's is like a sandwich shop that offers cold sandwiches, chips, burritos, and a variety of other food items. The Colony Cafe is like a kiosk that offers lunch items for students on-the-go. All three facilities are maintained by student workers and off-campus providers.

    Dorm Life

Don't be afraid to room with someone you haven't met. CBU's office of Residence Life does great job of connecting new students with people who share similar interests or ethnicities.

    Academic Rigor

Utilize the tools offered. CBU has an ARC (Academic Resource Center) that offers tutoring by fellow students. There is a Library that has a variety of academic resources for research, as well as a Computer Lab. Most of all, study hard. The professors are willing to help and make time to have one-on-one time with their students. But it it is the student's responsibility to excel at whatever course he has entered. The courses may be difficult, but only as difficult as the student makes it.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend the Step Ahead and Orientation programs. They make the transition into the CBU culture fun and easy. Make friends not only with other students but also the faculty. They want to help you achieve your academic goals as much as possible.

    In three sentences

It's a good place to get connected with people who love God and value education. The faculty-to-student ratio allows students to build relationships with their professors. CBU offers a variety of degree programs as well as a friendly environment for its students.

    Campus Safety

For the most part campus safety is great. There are always people walking around who are working with public safety and everywhere you go there are blue poles with buttons you can push to call help when your in trouble. The campus is always lit up and it feels safe whether your walking around at 3 in the afternoon or in the morning. There have been events where a bike or two were stolen but that's about it.

    Greek Life

This is a Christian school and I dont know what Greek life means, but it sounds like something about partying so I dont know what to answer for this.

    Clubs and Activities

I have personally not been involved with any clubs so I can't really say anything about this subject. From what I've heard though, clubs seem to be really great to make friends, get to know professors, and gain knowledge on your major or things you are interested in. I know I'm going to get more involved with clubs and activities this upcoming semester, but that's just me.

Great for these types of students

Christ lovers!!! Fun, outgoing people. Leaders. Friendly souls. Someone looking for something fun, different, and exciting.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A cool tradition on campus is the homecoming event full of flag football games, great games, an amazing firework show, and fun inflatables to enjoy with family, along with good food truck food. Basketball games are some of the best which come with having fun with the 8 crazies, people chosen by classmates to help cheer the team and make every experience at a game unforgettable. On campus food, Brisco's, Wanda's, and the Caf are really good and offer great quality food.

    Bang for the buck

Some things that you don't have to waste much money on are movie theater nearby. CBU offers tickets for a lower price for being a student so it really helps. Mount Robidoux is a great place for adventurous people to go to day or night to relax and enjoy nature with friends, or a good workout up the mountain. There is also another mountain with rope trails and fun hiking trails to have a good time with friends and botanical gardens nearby for free.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do for fun around CBU. Not only are there lots of on-campus events and athletic events to attend, but less or about an hour away from school there are amusement parks, beaches, mountains, and much more to do. Lets not forget downtown Riverside, a place full of great fun, food, and entertainment.

    Food and Dining

Cal Baptist has a buffet style food set up everyday with many options to choose from. From Mexican food, to Italian, to American dishes, to Asian cuisine. If you like healthy options, CBU had it. And everyone who eats there can't help but say that the ice cream at the CBU dinning commons, is one of the best.

    Dorm Life

I personally did not stay in the dorms but I did make friends that stayed their and they let me sleep over a couple times. It's really comfy and feels like your own space, which is really nice in college. you only have to share with one other person so it's not too bad. Other people clean your bathrooms, so unlike the living areas, you don't have to clean your own bathroom. Your RA's are great, fun leaders and from what I've heard do a really good job at making the dorm life a fun, unforgettable experience. You get really close and familiarized with your hall mates and it's super cool to be living so close to everything on campus.

    Academic Rigor

It's not a super prestigious school but the academic side of Cal Baptist is pretty hard depending on the major. Some are obviously going to be more difficult than others. It prepares you for much more than just your career.

    Tips for prospective students

Look at the majors offered. Although our academic catalog is growing not every major or concentration is offered. Also if your looking for a great engineering program, CBU is one of the best. The Christ-based environment is one of the best things at the school.

    In three sentences

California Baptist University is such an amazing university with opportunities for students to grow in more than one way around every corner. Cal Baptist offers majors from theater to engineering and it is growing. If you want a great education, in a fun environment, and Christian oriented, this is the school for you.

I'm still learning the ropes of CBU however, some of the guys here say theres an apartment area on campus some people like to go down to and swim, and hang out. Also the volleyball courts are a hotspot here.

    Bang for the buck

Cal Baptist is a private school so prices here are a little bit more expensive. We do have a few pluses here, such as no parking fees, and room and board is roughly 5,500 a year, again inexpensive. However other costs make up for those inexpensive items.

I play baseball at CBU, and the activities are endless. We have intramurals here, and all over campus we have basketball courts, volleyball courts, ping pong tables, etc. I like to get out and be active, but for those who don't, the school offers a wide range of places to relax, hang out, watch a movie, or meet with different clubs.

    Food and Dining

I have eaten here several times and the food is amazing. The wide diversity of choices is limitless. Each meal has different ethnicities that appeal to all of us.

    Dorm Life

I haven't started living on campus yet, but i'm excited to see whats in store. I've heard nothing bud good things about living at CBU and just to be involved.

Also if your transferring from another state with an AA degree make sure that all your class transfer over before you decide to attend this University. Lastly, think about trading in your car for a scooter if your going to commute, you have the best parking spots if you do that.

I am convinced that you could not get a better education anywhere else. The unique small class sized and personal relationships with your professors makes this university one of a kind.

    What to do for fun

California Baptist University is right in the middle of all the major entertainment outlets. Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, the beach, and other things like ice skating and mini golfing are all readily available for off campus entertainment. The school actually offers discounted prices on some ticket prices to places like Disneyland. On campus entertainment never seems to cease; school events are always underway and the time and thought that is put into these events is apparent when you attend. CBU is such a fun University to attend.

    Food and Dining

There are many different options concerning the food and dining on campus. One of my favorite aspects of the dining is that CBU has teamed up with corporations such as subway to serve students of the university using their already existing meal plans. There is a buffet style cafeteria and three different cafes that are open during diverse hours to make sure you are taken care of.

    Dorm Life

The students and residential advisors at California Baptist University have been extremely helpful and personable in my experience. This university is a christian campus which ensues that there are rules in place that allows potential personal problems and ethical problems to be dealt with accurately and fairly.

    Academic Rigor

The courses at CBU are extremely hands on. I have not encountered one professor that did not benefit my education tremendously. The academic rigor is apparent but because you have access to many different resources and authority figures that will help you achieve to the best of your ability.

    Tips for prospective students

To achieve the full experience of this university it is important to be involved. The events and clubs that commence at this school are designed to get you connected to the right people which in turn gives you a head start on your future. The more events and clubs that you are involved in the more opportunity you have to grow as an individual and to help others grow as well.

    In three sentences

CBU is an amazing institution that gives students the opportunity to obtain beneficial relationships with their professors and achieve a well rounded applicable education. CBU is all about helping students achieve their purpose which includes offering connections to potential career paths after graduation. I have never felt more at home than when i am at CBU, the community and support sets this institution apart from others.

    Food and Dining

The food is excellent at CBU. Our food comes from the people who do the food for Market Broiler. There is always a great variety and we even have food options open for late night.

    Dorm Life

I love it in the living areas. My hall is where some of my best friends here live. We have so much fun and really have become a bunch of sisters. The rooms are a bit small but very nice and the amenities are all up to date.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging and can sometimes feel overwhelming but you can be successful in every class as long as you put in the effort. All of the professors go out of their way to make sure people are successful and understand the material.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to all of the 24@CBU events and have a chance to test drive CBU. Do not write this school off because it is small or because not many people have heard of it. It is an amazing school with so many diverse programs.

    In three sentences

This is an amazing school where people of similar beliefs are able to come together and learn about both Christ and their field of study. Everyone here goes out of their way to be accommodating. The friends I have made here will last a lifetime.

    Campus Safety

The Campus Safety patrols every day and every night. You can even ask them for rides if you don't feel safe walking to your destination.

    Clubs and Activities

Tons of clubs on campus that can fit your culture and your interests. Also if you can't find one that fits you interests, you can always create your own.

    What to do for fun

There are many events on campus for the residence and commuter students. If any events are coming up there will be posters around campus, people will tell you during Chapel, your RA will post things in the living area and you can check lancermail to see what is going on. There are service events to help out the community and hang out with friends. During September we have TWIRP week were the girl ask the boys on dates the entire week. Also have midnight madness, christmas chapel and etc. Next semester we have WOO! same as TWIRP but instead the boys ask the girls and woo there affection. Just a munch of events to connects everybody together and meet new people.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing everyday way better than high school food. At Cal Baptist we have five different eating places for you to enjoy, for example: Alumni Dining Columns, Wanda's, Brisco's and Subway. The Alumni Dining Columns, is the cafeteria where you can use your meal plan to receive breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wanda's, you have to use real money here, also where you can buy drinks, food and lounge around. Brisco''s, you can receive breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. We just opened to Business Break Cafe in the business building so you can grab a drink, salad, wrap and sandwich. The only place where you can use you meal plan card in the Alumni Dining Columns, Business Break Cafe, Brisco's and Subway which is on campus next to the Recreation Center. Also on Sunday's you can invite your family for brunch.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is so fun and exciting. If you ever come here you will love the people in your hall or in your living area. I have so much fun with the girls in my hall and my RA. Every other 2 weeks or 1 month there will be events for each hall to do together and for the entire building to do. You will meet so many really cool people if you live on campus. We have different housing for incoming freshman like: Simmons Hall (girls), Smith Hall (boys), The Cottages (boys/girls) and Tower Hall (boys/girls). Then for the sophomores to seniors we have: Colony, University Place and The Villages.

    Academic Rigor

The classes here are amazing the professors really try to get to know better as a student. The schools we have here are: School of Nursing, Engineering, and Aerospace. The School of Nursing I here is one of the top Nursing schools in the state with exceptional staff. Although it is quite a competition to get into. Other than that they're just so many majors to pick from.

    Tips for prospective students

Do good in school and you will go far in life. Focus on your study's when you get into college because there will always be distractions. Get to know your high school counselor so he/she can write you an excellent recommendation letter for college. When you get into college of your dreams get to know your college admissions counselor and financial aid counselor. Cal Baptist is a great school and I am glad I choose to apply here last year. Also if you are prospective student and are thinking of applying to California Baptist University you are making the right choice because you will make so many close friends here and be involved with so many events on campus. If you want to see the school in a more personal way sign up for 24@CBU where high school seniors stay on campus in any freshman living area and attend school activities.

    In three sentences

I will rate chapel a 10 because you become closer to God, while listening to God's word and praising his name. A 10 for the food because it is so amazing every time I go. Last but not least a 10 on the living areas because I have so many choices of where I want to live for the first year.

Volunteer, inter mural sports, they hold a lot of fun events such as concerts, movie nights, and so forth.

    Food and Dining

Food is expensive, but very tasty!

    Dorm Life

    Never lived on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Great professors, the classes are more easy to relate to and understand.

    Tips for prospective students

Get scholarships! It is a very expensive school! Get involved in some of the programs or events that they provide, you meet a lot of people through them.

    In three sentences

Excellent professors who take the time to get to know each student, work with you, and take a personal interest in you. The campus is beautiful and open, there is a nice mix of new and old buildings, but the campus is also very well secured. I wish they had more sports such as football.

    Food and Dining

Really, really good. Alumni Dining Commons is my favorite though Wanda's is my go to place with friends when we need a quick study break or catch up time. Brisco's is open late until 11 so that is usually where I go when I realize it's 10pm and I haven't eaten yet.

    Dorm Life

I do not know, I commuted here so I cannot tell you how the dorm life is though most of my friends seem to like it and have had no complaints.

    Academic Rigor

I'd judge it between a 3-5 stars. The professors expect a lot of you, especially as you get into your senior and junior year and it shows in the amount of work required in the assignments. That said, I have friends who go to UC schools and they have more assignments then me. So while its a lot, it's not difficult to handle and if you need help, there is tutoring available.

    Tips for prospective students

Go and visit the campus, look around and make sure you like it. Walk around and talk to current students, ask them what they like and don't like about the campus. Also if you know what you want to major in, ask if you can set up a meeting with the head of that department so you can find more information about the program, what it is expected of you and how CBU continues to help you even after you have graduated. CBU is expensive, so you want to make sure it is the right fit for you before you say yes. Also note the mandatory chapel times for each semester. I was amazed at how many students came and did not realize they had to attend chapel.

    In three sentences

CBU is welcoming, caring and puts their students first. From the people in the front office to the professors in the classroom to the counselors etc, every single person makes you feel unique and special and they are dedicated to making you succeed. I do not regret my decision to go here.

    Campus Safety

Our campus is very safe (probably from being prayed over by our administration daily). The school is fully fenced and housed within a united campus. Instead of building satellite campuses, CBU has purchased many commercial buildings and areas surrounding the campus, to allow for expansion while maintaining the safety within the walls of the campus. Most students walk to all of their classes and never feel unsafe doing so. I come from a very small town in Oregon, and I was worried about going to school in a large city in California. CBU has not caused me to worry about that since I arrived.

    Greek Life

We do not have Greek sororities and fraternities because we are dedicated to our education and spiritual life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are sooooo many clubs and activities on campus. I am a competitive swimmer, and spend about 15-20 hours in the pool each week. I am also an Aviation Major, so I spend about the same amount of time at the airport each week. However, if you aren't involved in those two time-consuming activities, you can watch our newly designated Division II teams dominate others we compete against. Our basketball team, waterpolo teams, and swim/dive teams are a blast to watch. You can also get involved in numerous music groups, clubs, or organizations. One can always find a musical event on campus each week to enjoy. Our intramurals and game groups are quite fun also. If that is not enough, the adventurous can also sign up for many activities off-campus through our campus life center.

Great for these types of students

Cal Baptist is great for those who care about school and want a world-class education. CBU is wonderful for Christian students who want to stay focused on God AND their education. This university is also a great choice for athletes. If you are interested in a major that will lead to a life-changing career, they are here (Nursing, Business, Engineering, Aviation Science, Psychology, Biology, Education, and many more). Most importantly, CBU is the perfect school for those who want the offerings of a large state school within the comforting walls of a small family-like school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

This campus is ripe with tradition. As we enter as Freshman, there is a huge party and a walk where we all rub the large water ball located at the entrance to campus. As seniors, we take the same walk, going in the opposite direction. Every parent, professor, and faculty member is there for both walks, cheering us on and praying for us as we pass. We also have TWERK week (Women invite and pay for/plan dates or activities), not to be outdone by WooFest (where the guys have talent contests and games to try to woo the girls). We also have many festivals for different traditions on our huge front lawn (about a city block long). However, the most special tradition for me is when flying your first solo flight, the back of your shirt is cut-off and you are dunked in the fountain (the tradition behind that is quite detailed and cool).

    Bang for the buck

CBU is awesome, amazing, second to none, and in a class by itself. However, it is expensive. So, the best suggestion I can give you is to do well in school and get lots of scholarships and grants. Even if you have to take out loans to attend CBU, I think it is worth every cent.

    What to do for fun

For everyone choosing a California school, you always want to know how close are you to Disneyland. We are right on the same freeway! Aside from that, we have monthly special events on campus, some very famous Christian bands, and we are now a NCAA II school, allowing for lots of sporting events to attend. If you are into mall-wondering, One exit down the freeway is a huge mall (much bigger than I was used to in Oregon) with lots of yummy restaurants and movies. We also just had our grand-opening of a world-class sports center that includes a roof-top track, climbing wall, and all the state-of-the-art equipment you would expect at such a facility. Skiing is not far away at Big Bear, Palm Springs is not far away, and the beach is also not too far away down the freeway. As for me, the most fun I have is hanging out in our brand new flight center at the Riverside Municipal Airport or roaring over the landscape of Riverside.

    Food and Dining

I was accepted at all 7 colleges I applied to, and believe it or not, one of the major factors in my decision making process was food. You see, I am unable to eat gluten, I cannot digest milk proteins, and I am a competitive swimmer, so my diet needs are great. CBU actually has an entire section of dining choices just for me Students with dietary needs like mine walk up to a counter, and they can request at least 5 of the entrees in gluten free, dairy free, nut-free, and/or egg free. No other school I visited across the country had an equitable variety of choices for those with special dietary restrictions. In addition to that, the main entrees for those without health issues are even more diverse with all types of food. My personal favorite is the sushi and the wonderful types of quinoa offered. I love inviting guests to dine with me because they are so surprised by how good everything is.

    Dorm Life

I live in a cottage of 9 Freshman. At CBU, Freshman are housed together to help them connect with others in similar situations. I could not have survived moving so far away from home without my phenomenal cottage mates. We have rooms housing 2-3 girls, a kitchen, 3 bathrooms, and our own laundry facility. In addition, there is a courtyard for all the cottage dwellers to gather and have community events. Finally, the University hosts numerous events to build dorm cohesion and community, while allowing us to interact with all the other dorm areas also. At this point in time, the only place I could imagine living, besides in my childhood bedroom, would be right here!

    Academic Rigor

I attended high school enrolled in all honors and AP classes. Those prepared me to succeed at Cal Baptist academically, but I still have to work hard and give my all. Classes are not easy, but they are amazing! I love what I am learning. As an Aviation Science Major (newest science degree offered at CBU) I am learning what students would in flight school, what they would in meteorology classes, and what a religious major would. WOW truly sums it up. CBU is not a school where you can slide-by and do almost no homework, but if you are ready to work hard and love learning, this is the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Incoming students need to know that any school they choose can be inviting, if they choose to get involved. Cal Baptist is amazing because as incoming Freshman, they do not give you the option of opting out or not getting involved. The first week of school is designed to introduce you to the people you will live with for the next four years and those who will instruct and guide you. They also do an amazing job of incorporating your family into the orientation process. ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY.

    In three sentences

CBU is an amazing, top-notch university with a diversity of majors usually only available at large public schools. However, the small, family-like atmosphere makes CBU a perfect choice for those leaving home for the first time. I cannot imagine feeling more accepted or cherished at any other school.

Great for these types of students

I believe that this school is great for Christians, because the school is a faith based school. There are church and devotionals help on campus for student.

I particularly love the field area on the campus, very beautiful scenery. I also like to watch the students go to and fro. So much going on on campus, never a dull moment.

    Academic Rigor

I enjoy the intensity of the courses. The courses are not too hard, but students are forced to do their best, and I never feel like the school is a degree mill.

    Tips for prospective students

The school offers classes online, which are amazing, but I recommend you take some courses on campus. The campus is so beautiful, which really encourages students to learn.

Ring Before Spring its a private school thing.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, CBU comes with a rather significant price tag, but what other school can you have lunch with your professor in the cafeteria just to talk about life? What other school do you virtually zero trouble getting into the classes you need? And what other school will create a brand new class just because six students have asked for it? Two of my classes this semester have less than 10 students. Three of my classes have less than 20. There is not comparison, CBU is more than worth the price of attendance.

    What to do for fun

Our gym is fantastic. Running on the track on the roof on warm nights is a must. There are two shopping destinations nearby with a multitude of stores, as well as movie theatres and restaurants. The office of student activities also plans excursions to a variety of places such as Mammoth, rock climbing, river rafting and camping. In addition, you are not very far from Anaheim, Disneyland, or the beach.

    Food and Dining

One word: AMAZING! Sushi days are the best. But just about anything you can eat is delicious. And best part is that it is all made in house everyday with the student's health and well-being in mind.

    Dorm Life

CBU tries hard to ensure they room you with students similar to you in likes, dislikes, time you wake up and how late you stay up. They have a large support staff to help and guide you should you happen to find your roommate situation not working out the best possible way. Apartments are offered for students other than incoming freshman. There is no curfew but it is a dry campus.

    Academic Rigor

While never more than you can actually handle, professors do expect students to keep up with readings, papers, homework and attendance. However, most classes are not lecture classes so the student has a greater opportunity to interact with the professor and the other students to learn more in depth about the subject and to share ideas with one another.

    Tips for prospective students

Be yourself in your application essay. Do not let the religious requirements scare you off. I have not made a single decision thus far in my 21 years of life that has been better than my decision to attend Cal Baptist. I have learned so much about myself, my interests, my goals, and my dreams since attending this school. I am learning not only about myself but also about the world and about God. Do not feel as if the presence of religion on campus will be overbearing; for the most part, chapel is enjoyable and the curriculum is not focused solely on religion.

    In three sentences

Beautiful campus with amazing food and living options. Diverse student body with international, local and non-local students of all religious, educational and social backgrounds. Rigorous academic calendar with classes available to suit a variety of different interests from Disneyland, chocolate and children's literature.
