    This school is a great experience for those that are interested in enriching their minds and their environment.
    Tips for prospective students

    Keep positive about your work load! Get things done when they are assigned and schedule around what you need to get done rather then what else you could be doing. Once you create a well organized schedule, everything is much simpler from there.
    Bang for the buck

    This town is green friendly. So you get more for your buck if you invest in an environment pollution-free form of transportation. Walking and riding a bike is the norm, is good for your health and great for your wallet.
    Am enjoying being here

    Chico State is beautiful inside and out. Everyone here is active and on their feet; they're friendly and the town is kept going by the students that attend.
    Am learning a lot

    Every class that I have taken at Chico State has taught me something I am able to refer to in other classes. The professors teach you above and beyond the class subject you picked including subject material and how that material can be applied to your everyday life.

    Chico is a well rounded school and community, but it is the best for those who are really serious about school and love the beauty of country living.

    Chico is the school to go to if you have a good head on your shoulders and you can focus on why you are really there...to go to school!

    Chico is not just a wonderful campus with the most knowlegable professors, it is also a beautiful town and great place to live. There are really nice dog parks to go to and the local swimming holes that are popular as well. All colleges are going to be expensive, but it feels better to be paying for an education AND a great local community and town with the same check!

    I have only met the best people and friends at Chico. It is easy to get into that party scene, but with the challenging academics, focusing on school is just as easy and way more important. Everyone always says people only go to Chico State for the partying, but I always say that im there to get one of the best buiness degrees in the state of CA.
    Am learning a lot

    As a business student at Chico State, it is very competetive and i feel that the teachers are there not only to teach you the information required, but also give you real hands on experience with the subject matter.

    Get involved in events and if you are scared to do it by yourself, bring a friend. Explore the town on your bike to see all the works of art downtown.

    I would have to say that the best bang for you buck place in town in the Upper Crust Bakery where they have sweets of all kinds and it is located fairly close to campus. Broadway Heights is a great lunch place also located right downtown next to campus.
    Am enjoying being here

    After completing my first year in college, I decided to stay in the town over summer looking for a job. By doing so, I eventually landed a job at the best BBQ place in town. It helped me get connected with the community and know more about events within it. I enjoy riding my bike in the hot summers here, whether going to Bidwell Park, the skate park, or going on a bike ride to the downtown market in the summer, where you can get all kinds of goodies for cheap prices.
    Am learning a lot

    When I first came here, I had no idea what college was going to be like, but after discovering this college when I got invited to the Chico State High School Invitational, I discovered the perfect college for me. Learning the history of the town, getting to know my professors, and networking with people who can further my understanding on multiple topics and help me peruse the career of my dreams.

    Tips for prospective students

    Get past the party school stigma - there is much more to Chico than that. BEAUTIFUL campus, historic buildings, in my opinion the best-looking campus in the CSU system. Don't care much for the town though; it seems very one-sided (it is primarily a college town). Has good programs (I hear) in Agriculture, Business, Communications, Journalism, Music Technology, and Nursing. Give it a shot! The worst that can happen is that you don't like it.

    Chico State is great for students who like to work hard, and play hard. It is a fun environment that most college students would enjoy! Chico State is also for the type of students who love nature, because the scenery on campus and off campus in the local Bidwell Park, is absolutely beautiful.

    Prospective students should take a tour of the Chico State campus. After I took my tour, was when I decided that Chico State was perfect for me.

    Although this year there has been manndatory furlough days, where the campus has been closed because of the budget crisis in California, all of my teachers made sure to cover all the material they needed to cover.
    Am enjoying being here

    Chico State has such a beautiful campus. There is a creek running through campus and beautiful trees everywhere. The town is adorable and has a ton of cute little places to go out to eat or shop. All of the people I have met in Chico are extremely nice and friendly. The whole town is made up of college kids. All the houses and apartments around the campus are filled with college students, so that makes it a pretty fun town to live in, and I love it!!
    Am learning a lot

    All of my classes at Chico State have been small in class size, which makes it easier to learn and connect with my professors. The professors seem to present the information in a way that really helps you learn. I have definately learned something from each of my classes.

    This school is good for anyone who loves hot summers and cold winters. If you don't like living in a small town filled with college students then I don't suggest you attend Chico State. If you have to live in a city with malls and Starbucks in every corner I also suggest you not come here. This is for students who like small towns where evrything is around you and you like to go out and have fun.
    Tips for prospective students

    I suggest future students live in the dorms next year, if you think that living on campus isn't your thing then Chico State is one of the very few schools that offers off campus housing. They are exactly like dorms but they are apartment style and is a mile away from school (10 minutes walking distance). I also suggest you sign up for classes early and get your loans and payments prepared.

    The school is pricey but then again what college isn't. As a matter of fact Chico is much cheaper than other CSU's and because it's not a commuter school many people save on gas. Tuition is the same as every other CSU but and because of school budget cuts the prices keep rising. In general the food in Chico is cheap compared to big cities such as San Jose, overall although the school is pricey, it's very cheap compared to the cost of attending other schools.

    I love the campus and the town of Chico. There is a river running down the middle of the campus and there are over 300 different types of trees surrounding the school. What I love about this city is that everyone is really nice and friendly, everyone gets along and knows how to have fun. Because it's such a small town everything is biking distance which is good because we're arent't polluting the air with cars. Chico is overall a really fun place to live in and the area is beautiful.

    Many courses are offered here at CSU Chico. You have a wide variety of classes to pick from depending on what your area of interest is. The classes are big and the teachers are both helpful and understanding, these professors love what they do and they take time out of their day to help the students that need help. Teachers are very educated in their field so they know what they're talking about, they love what they teach so it makes the class that more exciting.

    Study hard, but have fun, too! Get involved, go to parties sometimes (but don't partake in Thirsty Thursday-you won't have the motivation to go to class the next morning.), and explore Chico.

    Despite hikes in tuition, I do not think I could get a better deal. I know my professors, I learned a lot, and I get to live in lovely Chico, California. All of this for a fraction of what someone at a UC spends.
    Am enjoying being here

    People are nicer in Chico. This could be a generalization, but generalizations tend to have some truth to them. Most people who you pass on the street will greet you. This is a comforting experience. You will feel welcomed the moment you step into town. I would highly recommend getting involved. Personally, I did an internship with the Sustainability Collaborative, and have met a lot of like-minded people. I will not lie to you- yes, Chico is still a party school. If you live in the dorms, you will certainly encounter people who party every weekend. If that is not your scene, don't let that discourage you from applying. There are still other things to do. Bidwell park is beautiful, and the town is full of treasures.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors at California State University, Chico, truly care about your education. This past semester, only one of my professors did not know my name, and that's understandable because it was a large lecture class. Although large lecture classes are common at Chico, there are always other options. I am in the Honors Program, and one aim of that program is to keep classrooms small. I an Environmental Science major, and am already on a first name basis with the department chair. The staff of the school, in my experience, are friendly and approachable, and willingly answer any questions you have.

    Make sure to get involved in every way you can. Living in the dorms will give you great connections and will help you in finding some of the best friends you will ever have. Also, do not forget to get out in the surrounding areas such as Upper Bidwell for hiking, biking, and swimming.

    The education is well worth the price. I feel like I am able to leave class each day knowing a lot more about the subject, and if not then teachers are more than willing to help you before or after classes.

    The environment around campus is great. Fellow students and faculty are very friendly and willing to help you if you just ask. It is a nice quiet college town, with plenty of places to go to get out in the sun on the weekends.

    I love the classes at Chico State. Each day I learn something new, and look forward to the next class. The teachers have a great way of teaching and helping you learn the subject being taught, and also help you learn about yourself and help you become a better person overall.

    Chico is a great place for anybody who has fears about succeeding in a new environment. They make the transition more than easy, you just have to be open to it. If you have any concerns about the quality of the education - do your homework. The numbers speak for themselves.

    Do not hide in your room! I never considered myself a social person. I've always preferred a good book to a good conversation but being away from home for the first time I knew I needed to establish a support system. I went to all the events, I kept my door open, and made myself available to others and voila! - friends.
    Bang for the buck

    With tuition prices on the rise it's hard to say that any kind of education is worth such a cost. However, when I consider the massive size of the dorm rooms, the great food, the gym membership, the hot tub 3 yards from my door, the free bus rides, all the free social events, and the effort that gets put into making students feel welcome, I'm definitely getting more than I paid for.
    Am enjoying being here

    I didn't get a chance to feel homesick. Right away my RA was encouraging people to go to all the events they have the first week and getting us to open up to our roommates and neighbors. After being here 3 days I felt like a had made a good group of friends. After being here 2 weeks, I'm 100% sure I made the right decision in coming here. The people here really care and it shows.
    Am learning a lot

    I've only been here two weeks and I already feel like I've learned a lot. All my teachers have jumped right into the material but it's presented in a way that I don't feel overwhelmed. We didn't waste time going over every word of the syllabus like they do in high school and junior college. I thought 15 units would weigh me down but the teachers are so good at making things interesting that I'm actually having fun.

    If you enjoy the drastic climate and fun-filled daily events, and you work well with hyper students, then Chico State is the school to consider applying to.
    Tips for prospective students

    I recommend taking a tour with your parents around the campus and talking to students about Chico State to know there perspective as well.

    Chico State offers many opportunity scholarships for students. One of the scholarships I am currently working on is the music scholarship. Which is available online at their college website.

    Chico State is a great school for all types of students. They're very welcoming to all types of students they have, and the other students themselves are very nice to interact with.
    Tips for prospective students

    I would say that for prospective students, especially those online, make sure you stay on top of your school work, because if you stay on top of it, then you don't have to worry about falling behind and/or missing something important. ASK! Seriously, don't be afraid to ask questions you have to your teacher about something you don't understand. I was always asking question I was confused about something, and my teachers were more than willing to help me. It made me feel like they really cared about my concerns/questions I had.

    With the tuition prices going up, I still feel like I'm getting my educations worth while attending Chico State. This school is amazing!

    I'm an online student at Chico State, and I love everything about it! The teachers that I have are awesome, and will explain any questions you have about something. Both teachers and advisors are super helpful, and are willing to be there for you, it's a nice change to see.

    I'm currently going into my second semester here at Chico State, and I can't wait for my new set of classes, because my last classes, I learned a lot! They were fun to be a part of!

    If you like things hands on, this is a great school for you all of my labs have really taught me a lot and the teachers are very good about letting you try things before they just tell you what will happen.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be proactive, come to orientation with a plan on what your going to take and a back-up in case it doesn't work out. Also, don't be afraid to go to a professor's office hours for anything, the first time is always a little nerve racking, but once you do it, it becomes a great way to stay caught up on all the material without pulling the o so common all nighter.

    Chico State is a fairly well priced school for what you are getting. Yes, it is not as cheap as a community college, but in my experience the students who started at Chico are much better prepared for the rigor of upper division classes than the students coming in as transfers. The town itself is quite cheap compared to most places, housing is much less expensive in Chico than most other CSU towns and there are always good cheap places downtown to grab a bite to eat.

    Chico is a great community, theres tons of things to do and its a true college town. Everything you could need is within walking/biking distance. All of my professors have been very friendly and personable and more than willing to add time to their scheduled hours to help you with anything. Plus it is a great place to meet people since almost everyone in the town is around your age.

    When I first got to Chico State I mainly took dry boring general education classes. I thought to myself wow, this is college? just another history class? I am now currently in my third year here at Chico State and I have got into the upper division classes that actually apply to my major, and I must say school is now a great time, everything I am getting exposed to in class directly applies to what I want to do with my life. It makes preparing for tests much better than the flipping through flash cards with dates and definitions I had originally thought my college career would be filled with.

    Campus Safety

    All the faculty and staff, even the students, care about campus safety. There is so much security you can feel safe anywhere you are on campus. The school sends out warnings and safety notices that keeps you updated on things that are occurring on or near campus.
    Greek Life

    There is one street that contains many of the sororities and fraternities and some of them are good and some are not. You just have to look carefully and be smart about them.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are so many clubs and activities that it is guaranteed that not one week is boring. Sometimes events overlap and it can be very hard to choose because they are all extremely fun and you get to make new friends in each.
    Great for these types of students

    This is a great school for kids who know how to control themselves. For kids who do not give easily into temptations because i won't lie there are temptations. You have to have your priorities straight and follow through to them.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    There is actually a creek that runs through the middle of campus and so whenever you are at one end you must cross a bridge to get to the other side. No matter the weather the creek is always beautiful and its just amazing to see. It still gets me every time.

    You have to manage your money well because no one else manages it for you and though Chico State is kind of expensive, its worth it.
    What to do for fun

    There are many activities that you can do for fun and some even benefit the community. You can go to the WREC which has an indoor track and an indoor pool as well as an outside pool. you can go to any event going on that night or you can do some good and apply for volunteer position at CAVE. this program has extremely fun programs trust me you'll love it.
    Food and Dining

    There really isn't that much variety when it comes to food because Sutter Dining serves almost the same thing every week. For example ,Italian sausage sandwich Monday ten the next Monday again. It can get tiring. However you are allowed to use your meals in Sutter Cafe and every semester you can get flex cash which allows you to eat in the Marketplace and any of the participating cafe, which is awesome.
    Dorm Life

    Truthfully it depends on which roommates you can get. They can be awesome like mine or they can be hard party animals like my friend's. you can enjoy dorm experience with your roommates or you can make some new friends and hang out with them. Your resident adviser will be your biggest help whenever you have a question and will keep you informed of most of the activities going on in your hall.
    Academic Rigor

    DO NOT be fooled into believing that the class is easy just because the title looks simple! It will probably be the hardest class you may have! The teachers are great whenever you need help and they will actually take the time to show you step by step but they will NOT baby you. You must in the effort as well.
    Tips for prospective students

    Look at the facts. Don't listen to what other people say because every one is different and no one know you better than yourself. Be prepared and be open-minded about the many people you may meet. Be friendly but don't lose yourself trying to impress others.
    In three sentences

    This is a green campus and is full of open-mined people that are kind and caring. The city surrounding the school is beautiful and though it is considered a 'party city' you don't have to be a party person. Their is almost no pressure to do something your not comfortable with and much of the focus of the school is based on your academics.

    Campus Safety

    Very safe, Police officers everywhere making sure things are going smoothly, their are parts of town you do not want to find yourself at a certain time of the day. But as a college student you should not be finding yourself in that area. There are blue poles with phones on them in case of an emergency found throughout campus. You can get free taxi rides from some of the taxies that work for the city.

    Basketball Games are very entertaining, games are always packed and its almost certain you will have a good time and make some friends. Soccer Games are pretty wild, some of the players on this team make the game play so smoothly and it is enjoying to watch the games and have conversations with some of the parents that go to the games. CAVE is a club that goes out and cleans up the streets of Chico, and garbage that has been wandering the streets is cleaned up by CAVE they do a really good job and spend the majority of their weekends taking care of the city.

    Students that are willing to go on adventures and spend their time learning new things
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Rose Garden, do not pick the flowers there or else you can get fined for it. Soccer Stadium: A lot of great professional soccer players played in this stadium. If you want to watch a game and have a good time and meet some nice people go to the Soccer Stadium. The parents of the players on the team have great stories and are open to have a conversation with anyone. The Wrec: one of the nicest gyms I have ever seen on a college campus. Indoor soccer court, multiple basketball courts, a 5 star weight room, field hockey, multiple classes you can take (for free) MMA classes, spinning, yoga, and many others.
    Bang for the buck

    Bear Hole: a swimming hole in chico that has the setting of a lake. Some great rocks you can dive from. The Bear: A very famous restaurant in Chico, if you want a 5 star burger, and a set of fries that is place to go and they are fair on their prices. I recommend getting The JIF burger. A peanut butter hamburger with bacon on it. Peekings Chinese Food: Makes great homemade Chinese food and a fool plate of it. You will never go hungry when coming back from this restaurant - BIDWELL PARK: I cant stress enough how much of a fun place this park really is. A recreational pool in which people of all ages can jump in. Miles and miles of trails to run, hike and bike on. Upper Bidwell is where all the mountains are there are some beautiful sights to see while up there.
    What to do for fun

    Go on a run at Bidwell park, bike rides, hikes, go floating. Watch soccer games, basketball games, baseball games. Participate in some of the groups the campus has to offer. I recommend C.A.V.E they are a really fun group that tries to help the community.
    Tips for prospective students

    Make sure you take advantage of the opportunities around you. When done with homework look at all of the attractions the city has to offer.
    In three sentences

    Chico is a tiny college town that is surrounded by adventures that open up your mind about the world. Bidwell Park located in Chico and walking distance from the campus is where I go to do my homework. Once I am done with my homework have multiple things I can do at this park, go for a swim, slip on my running shoes for a run, attempt multiple hikes and some of the greatest bike rides that you will remember for the rest of your life.

    Chico is great for people who like a small town feel. It is also great for people who love the outdoors. The scenery here is amazing and there are so many outdoor activities you'll never be bored.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you like to outdoors and nature Chico is a great town for you. It is a college town so there's no way you wouldn't fit in. My tip for you is to get everything out of school as you possibly can. Open your mind to everything, try out new things and say hello to the people around you. Chico is a friendly place and you will leave here with years of memories.

    Although tuition keeps going up, Chico is still one of the cheapest schools in California. You get a great education and access to a beautiful new recreation center.

    Chico is a beautiful campus along with a great downtown for the students. I have lived here for 2.5 years now and I have enjoyed every minute of it. It is a great environment to learn, grow and meet life long friends.

    Chico State has taught me so much about the major I have chosen. The professors have been in the Design field for over 20 years and know their material. This school has not only taught me about academics but about myself and life.

    A lot of students go on ratemyprofessor.com before signing up for a class. But I have never used the site and have found out that all my teachers are amazing. You have to teach yourself a lot here as well. But they are good guides

    Definitely check out other colleges as Chico may not be for you. However, this school is one of the top schools in the state for Teachers, Business and Music Majors. I would definitely attend Chico if that's what you're looking at. Great environment, so friendly and the faculty is always hanging around campus to talk to.

    Well worth the money I've already put into the school. First school with the business information major through Oracle, top sustainability school in the nation. Only school in the nation at the undergraduate level with a student-run legal center. Number 1 St. Jude's contributor in the nation. Top 300 business school in the nation. I could go on, about how great it is.

    The students and faculty here are so friendly and welcoming. Everything about the people who attend here is amazing. It is easy to connect with different groups around campus, whether it's through classes, Greeks, or student government. The location is great as well. The outdoor feel of Chico makes it very unique and it is probably one (if not) the best CSU college in California.
    Am learning a lot

    Classes are rigorous like all colleges, and there are distractions, but with hard work and determination you can get through any class. The professors are here to help you get through and want you to succeed.

    Honestly Chico State is great for any major that is offered here. Nursing because we have Enloe, business because of our increasing and outstanding reputation, and any other major just because we have so many great opportunities in line with any field out there including myself, a music major.
    Tips for prospective students

    First off, come visit us! I know that going on a tour is what made me fall in love at first site with Chico. Make sure that you do not take over 15 units your freshman year, enjoy not knowing everything. Get involved with CAVE, I know I have done a couple of programs through them and it is a great way to feel good and give back to the community, and you meet a lot of great people. Lastly, get to really know your professors, they can be some of the smartest and coolest people you will every meet, talk about a well of knowledge!

    As the tuition keeps rising on us day by day, this is somewhat of a loaded question. But even despite, I get the bang for my buck. We have the amazing WREC center for all students and faculty, we get free unlimited public transportation, we can take so many classes out brains fall out our heads, and we get the Chico Experience. Most cars are more expensive that that..

    I personally love Chico State, the campus is absolutely gorgeous, everything is state of the art, and there is always something to do. You make friends so fast here it is unbelievable, and that is including professors. I love how everything you would ever need is right on campus and there is always someone to help you out.

    You really learn so much from going to a school like CSU, Chico. We have great professors who are extremely passionate about their subject and love to share information with willing, and not so willing students. It is the classic college town, right in the middle of downtown Chico, and there are so many people and activities around. I am learning how to balance my intense school life with my social life, how to resist certain pressures and how to just handle others. Over the past two years at Chico State I have learn an immense amount of academic and life skills that will carry with me for the rest of my life.

    Don't only focus on school, there are many options for other activities outside of class you should definitely look into.

    It is the same price as most CSUs, and it offers a lot of extracurricular activities that most other schools don't. Worth every penny!

    Everyone is very friendly and the campus is perfect for walking. The weather is great too, which really makes everyone happier on a whole.

    What to do for fun

    The WREC, Chico State's gym, offers many actives including rock climbing, basketball, swimming, a full gym, an indoor track, and a variety of classes given throughout the day. The city has a diverse list of great dinning options including Tres Hombres, Broadway Heights, Cafe Koda, and Rice Bowl. The area around Chico is beautiful and inspiring, anyone who goes to the CSU here must visit Upper/Lower Bidwell park, the Flumes in Paradise, Bald Rock, and float down the Sacramento River.
    Food and Dining

    Multiple small eateries exist on campus with one main cafeteria offering freshly tossed salads, pizza, and a variety of other cuisines. CSU, Chico began striving to be an environmentally friendly campus leading them to scatter composting and recycling receptacles around campus to collect what otherwise would be considered trash. This idea also extends to CSU, Chico's use of locally grown produce to cut down on the distance food travels.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life offers students a great start to their college career by offering facilities on campus, cutting travel time as opposed to living off campus. Dorms are well monitored, giving students the best in safety. Student choosing this path opt for an easy opportunity to make friendships and connections that last a lifetime. The cafeteria also offers a variety of tasty and healthful options to cut the stress of preparing your own food during a busy school schedule.
    Academic Rigor

    As a biology student, I found the chemistry and biology coursework to be difficult but thorough. For every hour of lecture, expect to be studying for no fewer than a couple hours or do not expect to pass the class due to the difficult nature of coursework. Professors are happy to help answer questions and provide studying materials aimed to promote success. Students must be well involved if they hope to gain the most from what these professors offer.
    Tips for prospective students

    Look for jobs during the summer when student are not in town, otherwise finding one during the school year is hit and miss. Stay with groups of people when enjoying the Chico nightlife to stay safe and avoid drinking to an excess. When moving from one party to the next, finish your beer first to avoid an open container ticket or worse. The last may seem obvious, but students tend to forget in the excitement of students celebrating the weekend. Finally, never forget your still in school. As fun as the nightlife is in Chico, you must hunker down and do the time to be a successful student and person.

    California State University, Chico is a ten on a scale of 1-10 due to the well-knit community of students and coursework that turns out graduates ready for the workforce. The small town feel of Chico allows students to easily network, helping to further themselves towards future job prospects.     I think its great for all types of students. Of those I've met, most people have a really open mind and are really fun to be around. Especially great for students who like to party.
    What to do for fun

    Chico is a beautiful place. The night life is fantastic. We also have a great WREC with a couple pools, hot tub, rock wall... etc. There's Bidwell Park where you can bike, hike... etc. Then downtown has a couple good places to eat and shop. The campus and dorms also hold activities to participate in or attend. I've yet to be bored.
    Food and Dining

    I don't enjoy the food very much and I think the meal plans are ridiculous.
    Dorm Life

    Living in the dorm was the best choice I could have ever made. I got beyond lucky with my roomate and she has become one of my best friends. I've also made 12 other very close friends on my floor. RAs can be irritating and some times frustrating. However, the friends I've made in Whitney Hall completely outweigh any downsides of dorm life.
    Academic Rigor

    I've only completed my first semester at Chico, which was mostly comprised of General Education courses. They tend to be a little easier than upper division courses.
    Tips for prospective students

    I know its cliche, but honestly, don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Keep an open mind and know that you're only there for four years so make the most of it. Experience as much as you can. There are an incredible amount of opportunities handed to you. Don't be afraid to take them.

    I love chico! It is a great college if you want new people. Everybody is so friendly. Much better then my home town! I love all the nature on campus. All the trees, the river that goes through the campus and the brick buildings is what sold me to Chico State!

    It depends on the teacher that you have. As of right now i have been doing all my G.E. classes and they don't interest me as much. The teachers really care especially if you go to their office hours!

    If you are worried about Chico being a party school I have news for you. It's only a party school for those who come here to party. I don't particularly associate with such students. My roommates like to have fun, but they keep the wild stuff to their rooms so it doesn't bother me. Other students can be seriously hindered by thinking they can come here are booze it up. Most of the students are not like that.

    Paying to go to this college is completely worth it. I am getting exactly what I wanted and more. My life is here now and I am happy. I can't complain on expenses very much because my scholarships are paying for it essentially.

    I love being here. The campus is beautiful, the people are friendly, and I can be myself. I enjoy the weather very much. It can go from very hot to very cold. The atmosphere is just exiting and comforting.

    So far, I am learning a lot more than I think I did in high school. I find that, even in subject that I don't like, my knowledge is expanding. I'm not becoming a second Einstein, but my education is moving along very well. The professors are supportive and offer a lot of help.

    During the summer everybody goes floating. On Labor Day weekend thousands of students and residents of Chico float down the Sacramento River on tubes. It is a huge event and a great way to meet new people and spend time with your friends.

    Absolutely, CSU campuses have low tuition in relevance to other schools around the country. Considering the quality education and the amazing college experience Chico has to offer, the money is very well spent.
    What to do for fun

    There are loads of things to do for fun in Chico, on or off the campus. Getting involved in organizations can be fun and rewarding, however, there is much do discover in downtown Chico. Also Bidwell Park has trails and waterholes that make great destinations during the hot summer days.
    Food and Dining

    Sutter Hall is the primary dining hall. All things considered, the food is pretty good. Depending on what kind of meals you ate at home, you may feel differently, but overall, there's nothing to complain about.
    Dorm Life

    Personally, I love living in the dorms. They are a great experience for first year students and allow you to meet tons of new people. Your dorm mates become your family.
    Academic Rigor

    The difficulty of your academics can be entirely controlled by you. If you sign up for a high number of credits, or enlist in the honors program, your schooling will be more rigorous. Know your work habits, find a balance.

    there are blue lights located throughout campus, which if pressed by someone in distress will notify university police and they will respond within thirty seconds. there is also the safe start program, which educates all incoming freshman on safety techniques. the first thing anyone will tell you is to never walk alone at night, use the buddy system! attacks aren't a common occurrence but it is because we have amazing preventive measures to ensure safety for all.
    Greek Life

    there are currently 10 recognized ifc fraternities and 5 panhellenic recognized sororities, and i believe 10 multicultural greeks. greek life is ever-growing at chico, and it is a diverse group of backgrounds, interests, activities and personalities. while greek life may not be for everyone, it is a great way to network, meet new people and get involved in intramurals and add leadership skills to your resume. joining a sorority at chico helped me make it my home, and i never would have met my best friends (even in other chapters) had i not gone greek. the greek life advisers are amazing and always available and visible on campus.

    dance teams, robotics clubs, many athletic teams, bible study, whatever kind of activity you are looking for, you will find it. if you can't find it, start it! new clubs are always popping up all over campus to fit different interests and activities.

    we are the only campus in california that has a creek running through it! there are nine bridges that cross the creek, nine graduation requirements, nine lives for our mascot, willie the wildcat, and nine floors in our tallest building on campus, whitney hall. just a fun fact! also, there are time capsules located outside of the administration building, kendall hall, which are opened on the 50th anniversary of their burial! some awesome stuff has been found in those!

    it took me a while to adjust to chico, but it really did become my home. i love the sense of a small town, but there is still plenty of things to do like in a big city. the campus and the community have such a great bond, and with so many social and academic clubs, you are sure to find an activity that fits your personality and bond with a brand new group of people. go chico!
    What to do for fun

    Hiking, swimming or biking in California's largest city park, Bidwell Park. great nightlife on the weekends, but definitely many options for those who don't enjoy partying like movies, bowling, rollerskating at calskate. The Wrec has an awesome pool and hot tub as well as amazing work out facilities if fitness is your thing!
    Food and Dining

    Chico definitely has a wide variety of dining options, some of them are pricey downtown, however. My favorite spot is Celestino's! Three bucks for a slice of pizza, only seven for a slice, salad and drink. right across the street from campus. Make sure you try a jiffy burger (it has peanut butter on it) at Madison Bear Garden, also right by campus. Chico is also home to the Sierra Nevada Brewery, which is a must-see and I'd recommend bringing your parents out there since it can be on the more expensive side.
    Dorm Life

    The greatest way to learn about campus and meet your potential best friends! With some great activities and programs, there is always something to do and someone to talk to. Each hall has a hall council, which is like a student body government for the residence halls. It's an awesome leadership opportunity! Resident Advisers are friendly, professionally trained and your best resource as a newbie to campus.
    Academic Rigor

    Depends on your major. What I really enjoy about classes is that teachers focus on real-life examples and exercises. While there are some large lectures, i have been able to avoid them and be in small, focused classrooms.

    Get involved in the amazing campus clubs like cave, honor societies, greek life, athletics and much, much more! There is a niche for everyone at Chico, and professors are always available for questions or advice regarding majors and classes. Live in the residence halls your freshman year, it is the best way to meet the most people!

    You can join a sorority, there are also lots of get togethers downtown on weekends. Chico is known for being a party school, but its not unsafe, its just fun, parties are more accessible. The gym is beautiful and everyone goes there all the time. There is a cute downtown with shops and food. You can go bowling or to the movies. Bidwell is also an awesome park for hikes or swimming.

    Portions are small, but you can go back and get food as much as you want at Sutter dining. (keeps you from gaining the freshman 15) The Marketplace has really good food!

    I don't know personally as I haven't stayed in the dorms, but I wouldn't recommend it. There is much cheaper housing available in town with actual kitchens where you can make good food instead of microwaving stuff.

    I almost put a 3 but school has always come easy to me so it's probably a 4 for most people. Depends on the department a lot too.
    Tips for prospective students

    Stay away from the wild party scene and get to know the local community. Read the CNR and the Synthesis, not the Orion. Walk around downtown, go to Chico Natural Food and look at the bulletin board. Find a local and get a guided tour based on your interests.

    Lots of extracurricular opportunities including sustainability and diversity projects. It doesn't have to be a party town as there are many fun sober things to do like go to the park, take yoga or dance classes, or go to other community events. Has a great art department.

    The campus is very well patrolled by police officers on foot and bicycle. There are many emergency call locations spread throughout the campus and the area is very well lit. Campus officers are very friendly and will open classrooms at 2am for students belonging to that departments building just so they can study.

    There are many sororities and fraternities registered with the school that represent great qualities and honor past traditions. They allow for students to be a part of a family that can help each other through their college years. It is a great way to meet people that you can relate to and meet some of the people you will be friends with for the rest of your life.

    Joining a club at Chico state will allow you to stay involved with things that interest you whether or not they directly relate to your major.     Through my experience I have found that most students are very welcoming to help one another. It is very easy to make friends because everyone is part of the small college community. Chico state graduates some of the most successful and competitive students in all fields.

    Cesar Chavez day is a holiday that is only celebrated my 3 other cities worldwide, one of Chico's largest holidays. It is an exciting community gathering that is comparable to St. Patrick's Day in Chico as well. The farmers market is every Thursday during the warm dry months and is a great way to buy local grown foods and support local farmers.

    Chico has some of the best prices for food and discounts for students. Many sandwich shops and restaurants apply discounts for having a Chico State student ID.
    What to do for fun

    The 2nd largest municipal park in the nation is the heart of Chico, Bidwell Park. Big Chico Creek runs right through the middle of campus and has many beatiful public swimming holes. The list of recreational activities is infinite from any sport to outdoor adventure you can think of.

    Chico is proud to have the burgers and pizza all of which range in style and taste but are all so delicious. Whether you want thin crust, thick crust, new york, or chicago style, Chico has it all. Nobby's is my favorite however Madison Bear Garden is the funnest burger restaurant in town.
    Dorm Life

    Dorm life is a great experience to meet fellow classmates and make the transition into college less stressful. It allows for quick access to campus buildings and easy availability to meet for study groups or friends. Living on campus will expose you to many on campus events and programs some of which are social gatherings or greek life and club promotions.
    Academic Rigor

    Classes are difficult but easily managed by staying organized and constantly maintaining assignments. Many locations on campus exist where free tutoring is available on all topics including the library and department buildings. Professors are extremely friendly and willing to help anyone even if they are not a student of their own.

    Staying involved with clubs and organizations on will benefit your college experience. Volunteer programs such as CAVE are a great opportunity to meet people doing great things and to give back to the community. Take advantage of all amenities and resources provided by the university such as the library and WREC center.

    Very safe. Campus PD patrols everywhere. The school has a campus blue light system for emergencies as well as non emergencies. Campus PD always wants you to feel safe, so if you just want a ride home or an escort they are very willing to do so.

    The dorms are so expensive; its not worth it. I regret living in the dorms because I could've save a couple thousand dollars living at a nearby apartment. Either way you will make friends.

    The dorms are going to be very noisy and expensive; I do not recommend living in the dorms. Be prepared for taking tests in a allotted time span. Do not start out with any classes you already have a feeling you will struggle in.

    Amazing. I have so many friends that are in Fraternities and Sororities and it is like a family. Such a great way to meet new people and gain brothers and sisters for life.

    There are so many different clubs and organizations you can join once you start college life at Chico State. I am involved in 4 different clubs and organizations and am on the Executive Board for a couple. It is awesome experience for future jobs and gives me a lot to put on my resume.

    Chico State is great for everyone. It is a very laid back school and has such a diverse group of students. I have friends that party every single day and I also have friends that are extremely religious and find other activities to do. Everyone gets along and Chico has become our home away from home.

    There is Bear Hole and Salmon Hole which is where everyone goes in the summer to swim in Upper Bidwell Park. We have an undie run where the whole campus wears their underwear and runs around downtown. Just a lot of really fun things that are strange but you will never forget. So amazing!

    I definitely feel like I am having the ultimate college experience at Chico. I know it has a party reputation, but what college doesn't nowadays? I am getting a great education for not a lot of money while still being able to go out on the weekends. The cost of living in Chico is extremely low so I save a lot of money in that aspect as well.
    What to do for fun

    There are always parties and fun events going on. It is hard not to be involved on campus because there are always activities. Being 21, I usually go to the bars with friends, but since my roommate is still 20, we go to a lot of house parties as well. During the summer, about 15 or 20 of us get together and go floating on the Sac River to get warmed up for the Labor Day Float.

    While the food on campus isn't the best, we have so many great places to eat around campus in the downtown area. There are a lot of great choices and my friends and I usually meet downtown to eat.

    I didn't live in the dorms so I can't answer this question from a person experience. However, my friends that lived in the dorms seemed to love it.

    Chico State is challenging but in a good way. The professors want you to become better which is why they push you so hard. Most classes I've had have more of a hands on approach so you really get a feel for what you'd be doing in the real world.

    Get involved as soon as you can! It is never to early to join clubs and organizations, even as a freshman. Don't worry about not having a definite major. If something interests you, get involved with something similar on campus and it will most likely give you a real world insight into what you would be doing for a major company. You also meet amazing people that become some of your best friends. Also, become familiar with the career center because they will hook you up with amazing internships and jobs after you graduate!

    Chico is wonderful. It's as if someone picked up the most random people from all over the country, and dropped them in the middle of downtown. The people here are so friendly, and when the weather is nice out, downtown is bustling with people. Chico is the City of Trees. The city is absolutely beautiful, even just a stroll downtown, or a bike ride to Bidwell, a guaranteed smile will always be on your face. The bars aren't too shabby either. They probably have the best deals on drinks compared to any where else, hands down.
    What to do for fun

    What isn't there to do in the wonderful town of Chico? Chico is perfect for people who love being social and who love being outdoors. Bidwell park is one of THE most beautiful parks I have ever been to, right after Retiro Park in Madrid. One Mile is perfect to lay out or swim in the flat bottom pool, and Upper Bidwell is full of waterholes and rocks to hike and jump off of. There's also the Sacramento River, when the weather is nice, floating is such a relaxing waste of time. Downtown is loaded with stores that contain many hidden treasures. Be it the Thai food restaurant, Chada Thai, that's under ground, or Melody Records where you can find pretty much any vinyl at reasonable prices. The Farmer's Market on Thursday nights is an also must go to.

    Great! Chico's campus has blue lights, which are dispersed around campus to provide students with an escort if felt necessary. (When I say escort, I mean a campus security car picks you up and drives you to where you need to go).
    Greek Life

    Greek life is not extremely prominent in Chico. There are sororities and fraternities, but we definitely don't have anything like a greek row. There are houses for the different sororities and fraternities, and there are also a good amount of people who are in them. But in comparison to a school like USC where greek life heavily dominates social life, you can definitely still be involved and included without having to be greek.
    Clubs and Activities

    Chico offers a ton of clubs and activities to get involved with. For example, I was am currently a DJ for our school's local radio station, KCSC. They also offer several clubs such as CAVE, GSEC, CLIC and others that have to do with volunteering, women's health, and the student government body. Whatever your interest may be, I'm sure there's a club for it on campus!
    Great for these types of students

    There is a huge local aspect that is in Chico's community-from it's farmer's markets to its businesses. This is a great school for outdoor-lovers, and for those who are interested in being a part of a local community.
    What to do for fun

    Bidwell Park holds so much potential for fun times, including softball fields, barbecues, a swimming hole, paths to run on/explore, and occasional festivals. There is also another part to the park, called upper park, which contains a number of larger swimming holes and good locations to rock climb. Speaking of rock climbing, Chico is in an ideal location within 2 hours of several different top rope and bouldering locations. We also have the Sacramento River, which people (both students and locals) float down during the hot summer months. Chico also has a pretty good array of musicians that come through and do performances, such as Zion I, Colbie Caillat, Snoop Dog, Tech 9, The Expendables, and several others.
    Food and Dining

    Okay, I'm going to divide the food and dining into two categories-the dining hall on campus and dining out in town. The Sutter Dining Hall was only recently opened in 2011, so it's extremely new and modern. However, the food options aren't necessarily the greatest. But I guarantee if you ask anyone at any school, they'll all tell you that they're dining hall stinks. Now as for downtown dining, it's awesome. There's a great pizza place called Celestino's (it's been a huge staple while I've lived in Chico), and also a burger/bar joint called The Bear (you have to try the jiffy burger...yes, it's a burger with peanut butter on it!)
    Dorm Life

    The dorms are a great way to meet people, I highly encourage EVERYONE to live in them for their first year at school. Yes, you do have to share showers, bathrooms, sinks, etc, however, the memories you make here will be some of the best ones; I guarantee.
    Academic Rigor

    Adjusting from high school to college work load is very do-able. Nothing too overwhelming, however, as you do get into your major's classes and upper division theme the workload and rigor does change. The general education teachers do a good job with helping students transition into college classes.
    Tips for prospective students

    Even though Chico does appear to be a little deserted and out in the boonies, there are definitely things to do! You should look forward to the big float everyone goes to on Labor Day weekend, and other holidays celebrations. Chico State also has the reputation of being a party school, which (I won't lie to you) is true. There are in fact a good amount of evening festivities that go on downtown, however, if that's not necessarily your scene it's okay! There are a ton of other ways to meet people and have fun-and remember, college is what you make it.

    I truly feel that CSU Chico is a great way to help set my path to help me get to my desired career. It's student population isn't too overwhelming to the point where you feel like you're just a number, but it also isn't too small where you feel like you know everyone.     We have emergency blue lights throughout our campus, and Chico State PD is right across the street from the school. Any time a student feels unsafe, its too late or dark to walk home they can either call or push the button and there will be someone to escort them to wherever they need to go. Never have I felt unsafe being here.

    12% of our student population makes up Greek Life including multicultural.

    We have over 250 clubs and organizations here. There is never a dull moment here when getting involved.

    I feel CSU,Chico is great for almost everyone. Students who prefer to keep to themselves all the way to the very social ones.

    We have a creek running through our school, and is absolutely beautiful, many students like to hang out there and sit or lay under the trees and study or just take a break. We also have an annual pumpkin drop in Butte Hall which is seven stories, and the local elementary first graders come dressed in their costumes and drop pumpkins off the roof, its adorable and just fun for the kids.
    What to do for fun

    There is always events going on in downtown. We also have the farmers market on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. We have an old state theater, and theater, mall, Bidwell Park, Upper Bidwell Park, where you can run, ride bikes, go swimming, and hiking. We also have the WREC center that is included with tuition, which is our school gym with over 150 workout machines, rock climbing wall, indoor tack, pool and hot tub that can seat in 24 people. There is so much to do here I could not see anyone being bored.
    Food and Dining

    The dorm food was not as bad as some people may say,but it is definitely not your mothers or grandmothers home cooked meal. However, because like I mentioned earlier, CSU, Chico is right next to downtown and with so many great places to eat at. There is sandwich shops, Plutos (salad bar),New York style pizza, Thai, Chinese, Tres Hombres Restaurant(mexican food) , Pita Pit, Starbucks and more. There is always options.
    Dorm Life

    I loved living in dorm my freshmen. I was very hesitant at first however, I would live it all over once again. I met great people, had the best roommate, and met my best friend there. The experience is just indescribable and would recommend anyone and everyone to stay in a dorm their first year of college.
    Academic Rigor

    I struggle in school, so school work is difficult for me at times, however I have used my resources with programs such as EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) and free tutoring for the courses that I need the most help in, and it does a great deal of help.
    Tips for prospective students

    Always visit the schools you apply to, on the Internet they look beautiful, but stepping on the actual is campus is when you know if its right for you or not. Look into the resources you may have when attending, and if there's expenses for it or not as opposed to another school. You never know what you might miss out when not asking questions, so always ask them no matter how silly you make think they sound, this is your education, this is the place where you will be receiving your future, so always ASK.

    Summer time is for sun bathing at Bidwell Park and tubing in the Sacramento River. Winter is a rather slow period, but offers a wonderful quiet atmosphere. Fall and Spring can be hectic with all the students biking through the city streets, but there are lots of parties and social events that entertain both academics and personal lifestyles.

    I feel extremely safe in Chico. Although our party scene has some negative sides there is no lack of policemen who are all around downtown for the safety of the students. There is this great perk called a blue light ride and this is great for students who go to the gym late or are in the library late because anytime before midnight you can go to any blue light location (which are scattered all over campus) and call for a ride to wherever you need to go.

    Chico, being a small college town, it is revolved mostly around the students. Downtown is really fun with inexpensive dining and cute shopping boutiques. There are lakes that are only about 20 minutes away where you can tube and hike. There is also One Mile and Bidwell Park, which is like an outdoor pool. However the main highlight of Chico is it's party scene, there is nothing else like it.

    For freshman there is a brand new cafeteria called Sutter Dining Hall and it is a great buffet with different varieties of food from pizza, to sushi, to fried chicken. Some times the chefs experiment and that's scary, but their food is great most of the time. These is always an open salad bar and sandwich station every day.

    My favorite part! The dorms are great, they are clean and feel very safe. Of course there are Resident Advisors in every dorm and some take their job more seriously than others, but most of them are friendly and you learn to rely on them. I would suggest getting on friendly terms with your RA, it could really help in the long run.

    The work load is just a notch above High School level, however reading the many textbooks do take up most of the studying aspect. I have found out that the work is easy enough if you do exactly what the professor asks of you, and as long as you do every single homework assignment failing isn't likely to come.

    Chico is a great college to choose as a freshman for all the dorms are close knit and it is easy to meet everyone. Downtown is only a few steps away and available with a wide variety of inexpensive dining and retail shops. With many different majors available and faulty that are obviously experts in their field it is easy to rely on your education here.

    Chico's campus is calm and friendly. If one has to stay late at night to study one can use the bus the school offers as transportation. All one needs to do is swipe their Chico ID to reach their apartment.     One can walk downtown or go to the farmers market. Also we have one of the biggest parks in the state. So one can go hiking or running in the trails or take a swim in the bear hole.

    No matter what type of appetite you have one can find a variety of food within walking distance from campus. Chico state is rite across from down town Chico. One finds The Bear- an unusual burger joint known for its famous burgers. one wont go hungry in Chico because there's a variety of food being offered by different cultures not to mention the farmers market.

    Figure out how many dorms your school offers and which one best fits you're style. What you want to look into is the location of the dorm and what meal plans they offer. Besides that the dorm life is an experience part of college. The dorm life is a transition from your home into college a place where you get to meet a variety of individuals where you make life long friends.
    Academic Rigor

    Professors at Chico State are well endeavored to have students understand the subject. Professors are passionate about their subject and are glad to expand on an idea all one has to do is ask a question and ask them to show a different example. Analogies are sometimes used to convey a better understanding. So hard work is shown by the hours one puts into their studding and work being done.

    as a prospective student walk into college with a general idea of what you're interested in. The next step is to follow the A-G requirements the school expects one to take, for example Math and English. And if you know what field you want to major in go talk to an advisor they have a map of the classes you have to take in order to achieve you're degree in the 4 years.

    As a Hispanic engineer, I've joined Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). These two clubs have greatly impacted my first year at CSU Chico by constructing my resume, introducing me to companies through job fairs, and assisting me within my studies with upper-level students. I definitely recommend becoming involved in at least one club.

    Chico State is great for all types of people, from the Diablo III fanatic to the all around athlete. Both types of people which I, personally, can relate to.

    The river that goes through the school is beautiful and provides many enchanting, solitary locations to study or simply relax and enjoy the weather.
    What to do for fun

    Well of course, there's always the party scene for which Chico is known for but that's not all. Just about 5 miles up the street from the campus is a National Forest that has many hiking trails and swimming holes along the way of the trails. My 2 personal favorite are Bear Hole and Salmon's Hole where you can jump off large naturally formed boulders into the water. I also enjoy the paintball arena that's 30 miles South of Chico and is rather empty compared to those in urban areas.
    Academic Rigor

    Not too many classes are hard but the elite freshman classes, such as Calculus II, require an immense amount of attention. If your taking physics, calculus III, and chemistry, be ready for an intense semester like myself; that's also just three classes awaiting me.
    Tips for prospective students

    Even though the social life in Chico may be amazing and a great experience, don't get sucked into it and stay focused on your classes. The night life can be very enticing but remember your priorities.

    CSU Chico has the most friendly, calm environment I've seen compared to other universities such as CSU Los Angeles and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The campus itself is beautiful with a river that runs through the middle of the campus roads. While the school may have a large reputation for partying, the academics get down to the grit and bone, especially during the last month of the semesters.

    Due to its small size Chico is great for getting into the classes you need. Very few programs are impacted, so you should have no difficulty completing your classes in a timely fashion.

    The Chico community is wonderful, exploring any part of downtown is always fun and entertaining. The outdoor activities surrounding Chico are also fantastic. Upper and lower Bidwell park are some of my favorite spots to frequent, with fun activities like swimming and mountain biking, plus the option to take dogs along.

    A lot of girls are assaulted in Chico but people don't understand that it isn't always strangers. Walking in groups at night is good, but most sexual assaults are done by people they know. Walking alone is actually statistically more safe than walking home with a male friend.

    Go to bidwell park and socialize with friends and talk to some pretty girls; there is a huge swimming hole built in the river. Have BBQ's there and bike rides. Float the sacramento river is a popular activity.

    Always be safe when alone at campus at night! No matter how well you think you know your classmates there are always so0me people who lurk in the corners. But that's at every campus. However, Chico State has many clubs and staff to ensure the safety of the students.

    Greek life at Chico State is not half as big as it is in Southern California however it is still a great way to get involved! Its also a great way to meet new people and market yourself to others.

    One great on campus activity is the Greek life. Join a sorority or a fraternity and GET INVOLVED!     There are many things to do in Chico. If you plan on attending here, you will soon find yourself being a naturalist, taking hikes up to Bidwell Park, or taking a swim down One Mile.

    The food is great at CSU, Chico. They have a pizza place, a salad bar, taco shop. They also have a lot of cafes throughout campus in times when you are in a rush. They also have a lot of vending machines throughout campus.

    Can't comment much on that, since I've only been a victim of bike theft twice now, but assaults do happen, usually on weekends and in less-lit areas at the margins of campus. Steps are taken to remedy the issue, like phone boxes with a direct line to campus police, safe rides (not sure if those still exist; I've never had to use one) and at one point a student-driven effort to offer campus escorts but those have since been discontinued.
    Greek Life

    Recently the president suspended all Greek life over yet another drinking related death and frankly, if such institutions as Greek life are permanently uprooted so that it deters even one conformist little tool from considering enrollment at Chico state in exchange for a school that does offer Greek life, it will have made President Zingg's action the highlight of an otherwise farcical presidency.
    Clubs and Activities

    There is an attempt. (Sorry for the terse answers, but I figure that given the suggestion to stay at 300 or less, I'm making up for my lengthier responses with shorter ones)

    White, wealthy, and pedestrian.

    The barely-annual excuse of student activism in budget cuts/tuition hikes and the near universal and undeserved lauding of the university president for whom 'dedication to affordable education' comes in the form of the un-ironically Orwellian student success fees. Also, there's a $20,000 sculpture the school splurged on, and the campus itself is one big ostentatious attempt to redesign it within a suburban aesthetic.
    Bang for the buck

    Not so great for education, but great for behavior modification in the form of a fee to be discussed by the board of trustees early next year.
    What to do for fun

    Not much, unless you count binge drinking. One time I was offered to do a line of coke while walking down fraternity row. You literally have to just breathe here to find great deals on drugs and alcohol. Occasionally a good show or two comes into town, and while the university puts on some quality events pretty frequently, they're usually a bit out of price range for students and the acts tend to be catered to the local professional elite.
    Food and Dining

    Breakfasts were great, though! Staff was always friendly, even at 6 am, and their omelette menu had really good options. Fresh baked goods and coffee were always ready. They were wonderful, to be honest. It's since moved to a newer facility, so it might have actually improved.
    Dorm Life

    Elevators didn't work, MRSA was like the flu (my roommate himself became infected) and the RAs are glorified baby sitters whose jobs are to ensure that binge drinking takes place off campus so as to diminish the school's reputation. Some really nice new dorms have gone up, but I know no one who's lived in them, so I can't say.
    Academic Rigor

    I'm legitimately bored. I'd rather sit at home and read than endure the awkward silence that follows attempts by professors and instructors to goad the students to life. It's not their fault, it's simply the reality of the effects of a k-12 education concerned with teaching to the test and not actual learning, and so, rather than unlearn these students, the university HAS to teach to them.
    Tips for prospective students

    Don't, unless you're independently wealthy or have a strange desire to pour vast amounts of money you don't have or will ever repay to a university system who seems to regard Kafka's representation of the Law as a model to follow and not a vision of an absurd and detached bureaucratic machine.

    If not for the fact that a only modicum of intelligence suffices to awaken professors who are as equally bored, dissatisfied or otherwise disillusioned as you are with a student body more interested in binge drinking and a university administration that is at corrupt at worst and inept at best, attending this university would have been the single greatest, most expensive and yet worthless mistake of my life. But because of the interest and support from professors, my mistake is instead placed just below, Staying. It's not all complaints, though; I have learned that given the slacktivist student body, the pointless pageant of democracy that are elections for student government, a student media training students for a (and I use this term skeptically) future in the analytically neutered realm of print journalism, and the administration's doublespeak to conceal its and its employer's corruption as a parasitic bureaucratic class, my experience here truly was a real-world education that prepared me for what's out there.

    There is downtown walking park with a beautiful view of a water fountain. Also, there is a park nearby where you can go run or play sports. The university itself, serve as a fun spots as well with friends, activities and instructors.

    Again there are clubs to join, the Wildcat Rec center is our awesome gym, there's Adventure Outings, where you can join a group of people going on an adventure at low cost, or create your own adventure and rent your gear from them on the cheap!

    Every where you turn there is a cafe of some sort. Whether you want a hot meal, a snack or a beloved coffee, you don't have to go far. The food is good, kinda spendy though.

    It's not Berkeley, but you can be as challenged and learn what you aspire to at this school.

    Go to an orientation, this way you can find out just what is out there for you. There are over 200 clubs and organizations within the school. You will also learn about different departments, financial aid info and much more!

    There are a lot of things to do for fun on and off campus. Chico State is located right downtown, so you can easily walk downtown and enjoy the town. There are plenty of parks and other outdoor recreations. On campus, the hundreds of clubs and organizations, along with the sports teams and intramural sports will keep you plenty busy.

    The food is what you'd expect: feeding the masses. They do this pretty well though. Local lunches incorporate the local businesses/farms, and sustainability is a huge thing on this campus.

    They just added a brand new dorm within the last 2 years. It's a pretty sweet thing. Along with off-campus dorms, you're sure to make plenty of friends.

    The largest crime on Chico's campus is bike theft, however it is a dark campus at night and like anywhere else caution is always necessary.

    Greek life is certainly available for all who seek it, however it is not a large factor in Chico. There are several houses that are affiliated with Chico and a few that are not.

    There is a club and activity for everything. Chico offers one of the largest volunteering organization in California, outdoor adventures, academic clubs, enthusiast clubs, and so much more.

    At any campus there will be crime it is inevitable but Chico puts in lot of effort to keep their students safe. The blue lights which are located all over campus are for students who stay late and need someone to walk them to their car or to another location. Also, there are no saferide which is cab service (free of charge) for chico students if they need a ride home late at night to prevent anyone from walking home.

    Greek life is cool, I am not involved in greek life but I have friends who are and absolutely love it.

    There are SO many club and activities and event to go to. Try them all out, no one will be upset if you dont want to come back! Also, if you find that you want to create a club Chico State is very open to students wanting to grow and create their own clubs.

    There are a few good cheap eats in Chico, like all of the taco trucks if you dig mexican food or an awesome salad from plutos for 6$. The best part is the happy hour, many of the restaurants have happy hour including a food happy hour menu and all of the more expensive restaurants become a lot more affordable!
    What to do for fun

    If you like to do outdoorsy things Chico is for you. Upper Bidwell and one mile are awesome to hike and go swimming on hot summer days. Thursday night markets are the best for ice cream sandwiches and all of the ethnic food stands. The WREC is awesome to play basketball, indoor soccer and lay by the pool! Also floating the river is a huge tradition in chico and an opportunity one should not pass up!

    There are lots of choices on campus for students to eat. There is a brand new dining hall with a cafe for all students on campus as well as multiple cafes to get a bagel and coffee when in a hurry. Also, the BMU is a common lunch spot where people can buy pizza, sushi, sandwiches etc.

    There are so many on campus dorms to choose from, and a huge new dorm was built 2 years ago. RA's hold events for students to meet each other and to come hangout in a safe environment.

    Depending on what major you take and how involved in your classes you are Chico State can be extremely rigorous. Of course there are classes that everyone takes because its an easy A and thus a GPA booster but I have taken some very difficult classes.

    Get Involved! Try out every club, go to every event and meet as many people as you can! Even if you are alone because no one wants to go with you... that is okay there are so many other students who go solo to events on campus that is how you meet new people and make friends.

    Chico State was one of the best choices I made when deciding what schools apply to and eventually what school to earn my degree at. Chico state has awesome facilities, professors and opportunities to get involved with campus life and the community.     If you're 21 going to the bars is great. If you're not 21, than going to house parties are fun. But, try to limit yourself so you're not hungover on Saturday so you can go hiking, fishing, kayaking or whatever.

    Chico has good enforcement in regards to campus safety. There are emergency call boxes all throughout campus that sends help immediately if needed.

    There truly is something for everyone. The amount of clubs here is uncountable but there is basically everything from dance team clubs to LGBTQ clubs.

    Chico is a very interesting place, with interesting traditions. The labor day float is of course a big one, but also Chico State has an annual pumpkin drop presented by physics students. Chico also has an undie run in which clothes worn to the event are donated to charity.

    There is so much to do in this (not so) little town. There is a great social scene and a lot of activities to do with friends, but Bidwell Park is also located conveniently near campus, beginning just a mile from campus but stretching very far with many places to go and explore such as water holes and beautiful hikes. Downtown Chico feels very home-y and there are many little places like coffee shops and stores that are very retro and great for college students.

    Chico State has a lot of options in regards to food and dining. Although it isn't five star dining, there are a lot of options and Chico does a great job in catering to people with special dietary needs, as well as using locally grown products in a lot of cases.

    I had an amazing experience living in a dormitory at Chico State. I lived in Whitney Hall and it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. I met life long friends and living in such a small space with people really allows you to feel as though you are family.

    I think this depends a lot of the classes you are taking. I have found that some classes and teachers may not ask much of you, especially certain general education classes, but some classes are very challenging and require a lot of time to study for exams and do work.

    My biggest tip for prospective students is to go in with an open mind and try as many new things as possible like exploring clubs and organizations on campus, as well as getting to know your surroundings, exploring the city, and being open to talking to new people.

    Although I have just finished my first year of college at Chico State, I can already tell that the next three years here are going to be amazing. Not only have I met amazing peers here, but I have also encountered very passionate professors who have a passion for teaching and a passion for students to do well. Chico State has a lot to offer not only academically, but also socially and students and faculty do their best to make Chico State a university that has something to offer to everyone who is fortunate enough to be a member of this university.
