Great for these types of students

Basically anybody that would love to get an education. The teacher to student ratio is about 1:30 except for some classes that are in lecture halls which contain about 100+ students.

    Tips for prospective students

Financial aid does tend to lag it a lot so it would be better for the students to check their GET every once in a while to check the disbursement dates and what you are being awarded. Like i said before you can also benefit from the services in the student union where you can get a free scantron and a blue book a day. Also the health center benefits students. If you ever feel sick you can always go to the health center and not worry about the cost being above your budget. Before choosing your classes always go on the ratemyprofessor.com to read reviews from other students.

    Bang for the buck

Cal state la's tuition is still pretty cheap. If anybody does go here then it is money well spent because students get a good education without the benefit of the doubt.

    Am enjoying being here

Aside from going to school here I also work on campus, so cal state la is like my second home. I enjoy being there and I love the fact that if I ever need a scantron I can always go to ASI and get one for free if I am ever low on cash.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot. Many of teachers are helpful and enjoy having students take advantage of their office hours.

L.A. is a big city, which means there is always something going on. There are also some cool places like the Staple Center, shops, clubs, and more. For me, I realized that I like visiting but not living there but that's also because I'm not a big city person. But if you are, then you'll enjoy it all that it has to offer.

    Tips for prospective students

If you decide to go here, make sure your financial aid is set. Make sure EVERYTHING is set: do your Promissory Note on FASFA Direct Loans, take the quiz on FASFA, and if you plan to live on campus, make sure you're on the plan where you pay every quarter and NOT every month. The housing department has three plans; 1, pay for the academic year, 2, pay quarterly, or 3, pay monthly. I did the monthly and so did the rest of my suite-mates; however, we should have paid quarterly. We all had troubles with our financial aid and by the time we got everything settled out, it was too late. Late fees became a daily reminder, especially for myself and I had to pay a lot of late fees. And when you have to deposit scholarship money to the cashier, you have to follow up on them because they are slow. I one time deposited a scholarship money and I found out they haven't processed it when my father called me and said that the scholarship money was going to be void if it wasn't used in 20 days. They've had my scholarship check for a month and I never knew that it wasn't processed yet. So I had to follow up on them and tell them that they needed to process it right away or else it was worth nothing. Also check your GET. It's really helpful.

    Bang for the buck

As far as tuition goes, it's very adorable. Housing, on the other hand, is another story. The housing cost much more than the tuition.

    Did enjoy being here

I have mix feelings about this. Basically, I realized the school wasn't for me. The campus was a bit too small for me and I would have enjoyed seeing a college football game but they don't have a football team. Also, I was constantly stressed out with financial aid because they are slow and confusing. When I thought I had everything done, I would receive a letter from the housing department saying that I haven't paid yet and was charged with late fees almost every month while I was attending the school. It was probably one of the main reasons I transferred out after the first quarter. But I loved my suite-mates very much. When I was faced with financial problem they were there to cheer me up. Also, you can get free scan trons and blue books at the student union. THAT was very helpful.

    Did learn a lot

I did learn a lot and the professors are very friendly. They are also not scary so don't hesitate to ask a question. A lot of them have a passion for their subject and if you don't understand the material, ask them. They will be happy to help you. It also shows that you care about your education and make you stand out in a good way.

    Students who wish to commute

    Tips for prospective students

BEFORE getting any classes talk to a counselor of your major, if you are undeclared we have general counselors for undecided majors located in the library Palm wing B. -Get a Planner and write down EVERYTHING, work schedule, classes, chores, time to study, meetings and deadlines for classes. -If you are undecided, go to your local library and check out a couple of books on Majors. Or the field you might be interested in. They usually list the years of schooling, degree required, type of place you will work in, competitiveness, salary and stress level. -Take advantage of the Writing Center, Career center, Tutoring, Research assistance, library, Financial aid office ect. Making appointments is easy and most of the time bumps up your paper up one letter grade -Its never too early to start looking in to internships that you might be interested in -Join an organization on campus. Since this is a commuting campus, its hard meet new people and stay in touch. Joining an organization is fun and beneficial because you start networking for future jobs and maybe even make a couple of good friends. It gives you another reason to get up in the morning and want to go to school.

    Bang for the buck

CalstateLA is not expensive compared to other schools but does not sell itself short due to the non-expensive tuition.

    Am enjoying being here

I am starting to see more and more diversity. A lot of students on campus are working toward making this school a top learning facility.

    Am learning a lot

There is great talent here, not only do you learn in classes but you learn from friends. Teachers are more than willing to help you out and if help is needed in any area we have the Writing center and math center. We have the career center which can help you in getting scholarships, internships, jobs.

Los Angeles is simply put, A BIG CITY. you HAVE to be a city person to really be able to live there. I visited for a very long time and loved it but this was because i'm a total city person.

    Tips for prospective students

they take FOREVER to process you financial aid stuff so it would be smart to check every now and then if they have recieved everything that was required, ESPECIALLY if you are an non california resident.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for students who may not be able to afford a really expensive university but at the same time wants good professors and a strong education.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you ask older students any questions you may have because the administration and teachers will not tell you much. Turn in your AP scores before registering or else you'll need to take it there and then get a permit to be allowed into that class, by then it might be full. Get involved in clubs and organizations as soon as possible.

    Bang for the buck

I have just begun here, but so far the professors are definitely bang for your buck. However, there could be more or a larger lounge because the Pit is often full and the tables have a long waiting list. There also aren't many fields for recreational physical activities such as ultimate Frisbee or other grass field sports.

    Am enjoying being here

I am definitely enjoying being here at this college. At first, I though I might not enjoy it because it is considered one of the worst CSUs but it actually has very good professors. Only thing that's an issue is the lack of information that the administration gives students on thing such as AP scores (you need to personally turn in your AP scores to the administration office even if you had college board send it.) There's a place called the pit which a lot of students spend much of their spare time in, playing ping pong, billiards, arcade games, and just talking to and making friends.

    Am learning a lot

I am currently attending my first year at this university in the mechanical engineering college and so far all of my professors have been highly qualified and informational for each class. There is even a class specifically for teaching you how to excel in college itself, Intro to Engineering (ENGR 150). Teaching you good study habits and skills needed to succeed.

    What to do for fun

its impossible to be bored as a college student. your always busy or on the go. on campus you can socialize with friends in the food court. we have a game room in the cic upstairs. and down stairs if you are dorming, there is also a game room. i would rate it a 9.

    Food and Dining

we have a variety of fast-food restuarants to satify your apetite. el pollo loco, carl's junior, and sabarro. there are a lot more options but because there are so many i can not remember them all. if you pay for the meal plan living in dorms, the food is also great. i would rate it a 8.5.

    Dorm Life

living on your own is a great way to jump start the feeling of being independent in the future. you get a chance, based on your living arrangements, to live with 3-7 different girls. if its hard to find friends on campus, you start with your dorm mates, and expand from there. and right from class you can go home, rather than driving, waiting for a bus, or a ride, you can walk right down stairs. i would rate it a 8.5.

    Academic Rigor

it is critical at any college to maintain a good gpa. because it is a quarter system i must say it is fast paced. you must always stay on top of your work because you will fall behind very quickly. midterms are back to back, it seems like, because the term is so short. i would rate it a 7.

    Tips for prospective students

if you wish to attend here, just do the basic requirements it is to get into any college. good grades, mininum of 1400 on the sat's and take some ap classes if you really want to get noticed. this school, personally, was pretty easy to get into. my gpa was 3.2 and my sat score was a 1450.

    In three sentences

cal state la is a commuting school, therefore you really dont get the experience you would expect the 'college experience' to be like. its very diverse. you see all types of ethnicities from mostly california. the teachers here are really considerate. there not what high school teachers exagerated them to be. and its easy to meet friends.

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED! Even if you commute here you are not going to learn as much as you can if you just go to classes!!!! Join Student organizations and become active!!!! Oh and keep on top of your financial aid (they kinda lag it) and get to know your student government.

    Bang for the buck

For a quality education, the price is decent, however with the budget cuts, that may become a thing of the past so remember to fill out those scholarships!

    Am enjoying being here

The school generally has a nice feel to it, but there are parts that could use some improvement. The dorms are satisfactory and there are quite a few club events hosted by Hermanos Unidos. Of couse when things are a bit on the low on campus it is in the center of Los Angeles and not more than an hour and a half from the slopes, beach, desert, or Hollywood

    Am learning a lot

Most of the Things I learned here dealt with practical real-world experience that you wouldn't get in a lab alone. Most of my learning came from using the knowledge i learned in class and applying them to school organizations

Great for these types of students

Students who like big cities would love this school. It is in the middle of Los Angeles and there are many things to do around campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to check GET for financial information. It tends to take a little bit longer for some students.

    Bang for the buck

The school has a much lower tuition fee compared to other CSU's and it is the same education so that is a plus.

    Am enjoying being here

The environment is friendly and there are many things going on every day which means days at CSULA are never boring. The activities are fun and very exciting.

    Am learning a lot

I love coming here. The teachers are great and very helpful. They try and help out in any way possible. Some of the classes are very large though, but for the most part you can get a full education here.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students on a budget, not to far from the Los Angeles area willing to commute, like a lively and diverse campus, live in LA and don't want to go to far, and/or students who are looking for a good education.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should utilize all resources CSULA has to offer for freshman. I recommend getting into the Early Opportunity Program (EOP). This program gives you priority registration and also a grant.

    Bang for the buck

Although, tuition has been going up due to the budget crisis. Cal State LA still remains one of cheap California State Universities. So if your also focusing on cost when applying to colleges it's a place to consider.

    Am enjoying being here

There's much to enjoy on campus. From school sanctioned events to sports games, or even the Greek life on campus, or joining a club, there is always something to do on campus.

    Am learning a lot

I am a Biology major here, and although Cal State LA isn't a private school you do get very hands on with the professors. As long as you pay attention in class, take the time to study and talk to your professors during their office hours you will learn a lot.

no club nor activity , but i have seen them around and they are very active and nice.

    What to do for fun

there are many different things to do for fun. there is a place in the basement of the building university student union, and there is this room called the pit. here there are pool tables, tv, xbox, foosball, and even ping pong. here is the place where a lot of students go and have fun.

    Food and Dining

the food court on campus is amazing, there is a variety of food.

    Dorm Life

i do not have a dorm this year but i will soon. i wish to dorm and have that college experience. although i live 10 miles away from campus, its still a different environment. i have friends that dorm and they say its really wonderful

    Academic Rigor

this is a really good school. positive atmosphere.

    Tips for prospective students

i started on the right foot, i ended my first quarter with a good gpa. it was a gpa that i never accomplished in high school. i suggest to start with a good and positive mind each quarter. another tip is to do all the homework and turn in every paper.

    In three sentences

such an amazing school and campus. the professors i have had so far are very nice, friendly and very helpful. the campus is really big and there are many places to study, there is always a quiet place to study.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn about the possible schools you want to attend and understand what you have to do to get there. Do no worry about paying for tuition because there are a lot of financial aid.

    Bang for the buck

The price for tuition is worth the education you receive. The CSUs do not cost as much as the UCs and what is the point of going to a school that will waste away your money for the same educations.

    Am enjoying being here

I have made a lot of friends here and I do not plan to go anywhere else.

    Am learning a lot

All of my professors has office hours in which I go to and they help me. The professor here will assist you in your studies and they will not turn you away.

Great for these types of students

Anyone. This is a highly diverse campus that incorporates people from every corner of the Greater Los Angeles Area.

    Tips for prospective students

Get a part time job even if it means burger flipping but don't overwhelm yourself to the point that you can't work or study anymore.

    Bang for the buck

The CSU system is provides some of the cheapest university education in college, but that is because it is state supported. Since California is currently in a budget crisis the tuition is sky-rocketing. I only hope that I can graduate before I can't afford to pay the bills anymore.

    Am enjoying being here

I live in the dorms and I am a club officer so I get involved with a lot of the campus life. The people here love to hang out and have fun while still being successful.

    Am learning a lot

The material here is great! The classes can be everything from easy to hard depending on the student attitude. All the material is here and the teachers are more than willing to help you if you ask for it.

What I truly enjoy about CSULA, is its diversity. I truly get learn about other people's culture and see what i can learn from them.

    Am learning a lot

California State University is a great school that not only offers a wide range of subjects to study, but have smaller classes so that a student will be able to get most of what they are learning, and be able to get the know the instructor outside of the classrooms. Also, other great thing about CSULA, is that it offers its students low tuition.

    Bang for the buck

The whole budget cuts and tuition price possibly rising is a big blow for the students who go there. Nobody likes to pay more for tuition, especially when their are less classes and one can't really afford to pay more. The Student Store is ok, a bit pricy I suppose and don't even get me started with the book store.

    What to do for fun

For fun one could go to the computer lab and use the internet. One could go to the library and take a nap. Other than that, I have no clue.

    Food and Dining

CSULA has a Carls Jr, Pollo Loco, sbarro Pizza, Starbucks, some Chinese Food Place, a sandwhich place, and their own restaurant, plus the Mcdonalds and Burger King right outside of campus and plenty of other small venues that one can drive to. Overall a lot of places to go if one is hungry. The Restaurant actually serves some pretty decent food, so I would recommend that.

    Dorm Life

Didn't dorm there so I cant say.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on the professor you get. Some professors give a lot of homework and readings, while others are the exact opposite. So I'm sure you'll get both of the good and the bad during your stay.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest that you look up the professor before actually taking his or her class. Take advantage of the services that they offer whether it be Financial Aid office, Career Center, or the other services they offer. If you're going to pay so much in tuition, which part of it goes to these services, you might as well take advantage of them. You should be aware of what is happening to the campus because of the budget cuts. Visit a counselor or adviser as often as you can so you would be on track to graduate on time. Lastly network with your professors, they are a great tool to have in the present and in the future.

    In three sentences

Its a commuter School so students are coming and going all the time so their really isn't a school culture. The campus is fairly easy to remember and not get lost. Some of the teachers are really nice and are definitely a bright spot.

    What to do for fun

For fun people attend the housing events and the many events hosted on campus by clubs and organizations. They even pledge to one of the fraternities/sororities on campus. Students host get-togethers in their individual dorms or they go out to the parties and events at the neighboring colleges and universities.

    Food and Dining

The food on the main campus is great! There is a small selection containing, Johnny's Kitchen, Rice Garden, Sushi, Carl's Jr, El Pollo Loco, Sbarro, Starbucks, Juice It Up, the bookstore, and a few cafes in King Hall and Salazar Hall. From the small selection the food is good my only complaint would be that their aren't enough places to choose from. You can get tired of the same places over and over.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at CSULA are nice compared to many other Cal States. They are fully furnished and the apartment set up really makes you feel as though you have a real apartment! The RAs and RDs are extremely helpful and nice, when you're not doing something wrong, and they really have your best interest in mind. The housing staff host events in the Phase 2 lounge and Phase 1 game room constantly throughout the entire year. The is a convenient liquor store and restaurant directly down the street that students love and become dependent on for those late night cravings. Papa John's, Dominos, and a few Chinese restaurants deliver to your door and Pizza Hut delivers at the Phase 2 office!! It's beyond great!! My only issue would be that maintenance is a little slow with completing work orders for repairs, but if you go to the Phase 2 reception desk and state you're issue, maintenance is usually at your door that same day!

    Academic Rigor

I give Cal State LA 3 stars for academic rigor because their are so many impacted programs there and if you begin to slack off, some programs will ask you to join another program.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not expect to come here and be greeted with a wide variety of parties and social events, CSULA is a commuter based school and isn't big on parties, social mixers, greek events. Cal State LA is close enough to other universities that you can attend their social events but without a car it's very difficult.

    In three sentences

Cal State LA is a great school with a lot of opportunities; it is not a party school which allows a greater chance for students to focus on their studies. CSULA is located in a great area and geographically close to everything you can think of. Overall, Cal State LA is a great school with great academics and a great social vibe.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is utterly superb, no question about the campus safety provided, they have multiple posts all around the campus that allow students who feel endangered in any way, to contact the immediate response team, who is available 24/7, to respond. The respond unit makes up of various squads of law enforcement, first off the student squad which are students who advocate safety throughout the campus supervising and alerting to the official authorities suspicious activities. Also, there is a law enforcement squad made up of dedicated 24/7 officers who will respond at any moment to any situation. We have surveillance camera's all around the campus, and the post's i mentioned have telephone lines directed to the main dispatch who will answer 24/7. Their is also a police department building right next to the college campus, literally on campus with active deputies willing to respond as well, and investigator units in the floors above. As for fire safety hazards their are immediate respond teams that dispatch calls to emergency and rescue directly, and of course various fire extinguishers and smoke alarm devices with sprinklers able to put out or subside a fire, if it ever happens. Our safety is really enforced and taken seriously, with so many operators willing to aid anyone in need, including our very own doctor within campus, and health center.

    Greek Life

I have the little to no information about the Greek life, other than there are clubs in relation to it.

    Clubs and Activities

Becoming an engineer, there are various clubs one can participate in, some in particular are Club of Hispanic Engineers, Club of Women Engineers, Club of Black Engineers, Club of IEEE, Club of Eco-Car Engineers and so many more. Other clubs are the club for Pacific Islanders, club for Hispanic/Latino heritage, BIO club known for its equality among all sexes, and the African American club. Their are many more to choose from and these options are suitable for students who are willing to participate and focus themselves in the diverse community.

Great for these types of students

Joining clubs at CSULA, such as the club of Hispanic engineers, women engineers, IEEE, and Pacific Islanders, etc.. these clubs will help you on the long run by giving your employer the visualization of your achievements and dedication. Of course their are many more programs for the various career paths that a student might consider.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing at CSULA is unusual, as the diversity unites our differences and we become one huge family. The only unusual locations are the theater which I see in no way shape of form, able to hold a theater due to its surreal size and shape. Including the radio tower right next to our university which is where students participate and inform others through, and to me it looks like an enormous NASA type facility in a shape of a dome with antennas. But what really stood out was the hydrogen fuel station for vehicles and the on-campus bus transportation system, which underneath, has a metro rail station. How it was managed and placed, I have no clue, but it's there and available to all.

    Bang for the buck

CSULA is a very adequate size campus that really is substantially student friendly, in a way that allows students to find their classes easier due to its compact yet adequate size. Including its environment, enriched in natures beautiful tree's, flowers, bushes, considering its located on a hill. But nonetheless, this college really tries to focus on aiding students any way possible with people friendly assistants standing by to answer any questions and leading students to a better route. One major thing that really stood out for me as a summer school program attendee was the facilitators, they are made up of students just like me, who in great part take their knowledge to educate those incoming students into achieving and succeeding, not only that, they inform us, students, about the possibilities and what is necessary to do in order to really gain something valuable from college to be taken by us and used in our daily lives. The fact that students don't fool around and actually place themselves as mentors really flabbergasted my view of CSULA.

    What to do for fun

Students, like myself, can interact with others in joyful extracurricular activities such as basketball, baseball, soccer. Or perhaps go to the swimming pools, which are available to any student free of charge, and have swimming contest with your friends. Or simply go the the gym, which is also available for students free of charge, and work out with your buddies trying to challenge one another to see who increases in muscle mass.

    Food and Dining

I have to admit that the food served at CSULA is placed in a variety, and it's pretty much a buffet where students can pick their choice of meals ranging from italian pizza's to Carl's Jr burgers, Chicken, Chinese, Japanese, and Mexican.

    Dorm Life

I will not be dorming, but so far many students have confirmed that dorming at CSULA is very advantageous, they have the ability to study and not worry about rushing over to classes. Dorming at CSULA is a new atmosphere where students not only can interact with one another, but support themselves, this is what the diverse environment is all about.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers and supervisors at CSULA have been very demanding of higher learning, meaning, they will put as much of their part as possible to help you succeed, however, you must be the one to put in the effort to make things happen. Their academic rigor is based on a strict higher learning management, by encouraging students to proceed and become inspired to pursue more, and by explaining and answering any questions based on the lecture or presentation. So far, I've managed to attend a class where my teacher, electively, stayed after class to help any students with any issues regarding the lecture, this shows true dedication in part of teachers, expressing acknowledgement for their students and assisting them by any means to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

As an incoming freshman, who has already attending a program refereed to as STEP, those months have been life changing and for those unfamiliar with the community at California State University Los Angeles, I would recommend you socialize as much as possible because those who surround you will be your future aids in you academic achievements and will motivate you to continue your education. Moreover, it is urgent that you consider taking advantage of any clubs, programs, internships, and any well known activities that will aid you in gaining and internship for your career. Including meeting teachers and socializing with them, this will drastically increase your chances of being considered at an internship, and they will commit to your succession by recommending you, not to mention providing you with vast information about your career, they will be significant mentor throughout your college life.

    In three sentences

It's a beautiful campus with its own transportation system that allows students to get from place to place at a low cost. It's astounding that the campus has a very diverse community where various students from different ethnicity and cultures meet and communicate to one another. I enjoy the motivational speeches that enable students, like me, to thrive and succeed in their career, they will literally stand with you until you've achieved your goals, and aspire you to challenge yourself into reaching higher goals.

    Campus Safety

They are pretty good, we haven't had too many major incidents on campus since I have attended. There are emergency call towers ALL over campus.

    Greek Life

There are sororities & fraternities at CSULA usually there all out with their tents at the beginning of the year trying to recruit. I haven't pledged due to some family war haha, but it seems to be pretty fun.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty, but I am still working on coming out of my shell and experiencing more on campus

    What to do for fun

Go down to downtown LA and visit the LA Live, Staple Center, The Fashion District, Hollywood, Universal Studios, restaurants, and much more.

    Food and Dining

Food is good, but not great. They have some pretty cool fast food places such as, Carl's Jr, El Pollo Loco, some chinese food places, and 2 other restaurants.

    Dorm Life

I love staying in the dorms and gaining my independence. its very chill, not too crazy.

    Academic Rigor

I guess it depends on your major, but the professors I have had so far have been amazing and very helpful

    Tips for prospective students

If you're having financial aid trouble/confusion constantly contact the financial aid until everything is all sorted out. Also we are not far from Downtown LA so you can always have someplace to go. Last thing don't give up if you can't find all the classes you originally planned to get, emailing and calling departments and advisors will help out big time.

    In three sentences

On a scale of 5 i give CSULA a 3.5. Only because I wish the school had a football team and was more spirited when it came to activities on campus. Other than that I love that our dorms are apartment buildings and not resident halls. Last thing i love is that there is a bus/train station on campus so I can get home whenever I want.

    Greek Life

    Not comparatively strong, but growing.

Great for these types of students

Commuter students, science majors, returning students.

    What to do for fun

Being in the heart of Los Angeles means that everything from Downtown Los Angeles to Old Town Pasadena are not too far from you. Hiking, biking, dancing, clubs, shopping, and of course eating are what characterize the sources of fun in the area.

    Food and Dining

Cal State Los Angeles does not have a traditional cafeteria so y9ur options are fast food chains on campus, the café, or the University Student Union's bookstore.

    Dorm Life

While I do not dorm, I have friends that do and that used to dorm. While the dorms are spacious, the upkeep and amount of people in a dorm are what cause some problems. It is an experience worth having and a large help when it comes to getting to class on time as opposed to braving the commute, but keep in mind that at least a quarter of the students decide not to dorm past their first year.

    Academic Rigor

Like most schools, the academic rigor depends on your major and professor. However, being in the Honors College at Cal State Los Angeles has given me a different perspective on the academic rigor here at Cal State Los Angeles, thus I would have to give it a 4 out of 5.

    Tips for prospective students

If you come with the mindset of promoting school spirit, then the opportunities abound and your experience here is enriched.

    In three sentences

Cal State University Los Angeles is a diverse, overlooked school that gives you a bang for your buck. We have relatively small class sizes, attentive professors, numerous extracurricular opportunities, and a great Honors program. While there are some outdated parts and some rough spots when it comes to the administration, the overall university is a good choice, even for a commuter school.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is one of the best. The campus is under surveillance 24/7 and fully patrolled at all times. Students also have access to free car mechanics such as when they have trouble with their car in the parking lot. The school gives free car service to help students with its car.

    What to do for fun

CSULA is based in Los Angeles, the second biggest city in the nation. Most of the city's entertainment is less than 10 miles away in downtown Los Angeles such as the sports arena (Staples Center), Dodger Stadium (Baseball), and the L.A. live. If students decide to hit the shore of the beautiful beaches, they can be reached by public transportation (Metro Rail) to Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Venice Beach.

    Food and Dining

Great food is always offered at Cal State Los Angeles. We have our very own food court which offers a variety of cultural foods as well as the personal favorites fast food restaurants. There are always different foods to try.

    Dorm Life

I commute from home. There are variety of options for students such as rooms for rent outside of the campus that are low priced and very great for students to live in.

    Academic Rigor

CSULA has many great programs such as criminal justice, biology, etc. Students are always encouraged to do better than average which makes CSULA's academic rigor one of the best in the Cal State system.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the cultural diversities that are present at CSULA. Also CSULA offers workshops and tutoring which students should really take advantage of. CSULA should be on the list of every prospective student.

    In three sentences

A great school to attend for any undergraduate student. This school prepares you for the challenge of attending such private schools. CSULA is a great environment for any student.

    What to do for fun

Off campus: Csula is located just right outside of Los Angeles, there are many things to do in this city. There is shopping, entertainment, and sight seeing everywhere. On campus: There is a gym located on campus. Sometimes there are activities near the student union for students to check out and get free things. Sometimes the school has concerts which are really fun. There is always something to do for fun on campus, you just have to find it.

    Food and Dining

There are many places where students can get food, but a lot of this food is either fast food or junk food. There needs to be more healthier choices for the students. The dining hall does have a great selection of food: carls jr, el pollo loco, chinese food, and a sub shop. If students don't like that they can always go to the student store which has a great selection of food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is good, it could be better, but CSULA is a commuters school. The dorms are apartments which are great, but you really have to go out of your way to meet new people at the dorms. Only a small percent dorm at CSULA, but its always a good advantage to live on campus. The Students do not have to worry about transportation to school.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are excellent, the professors are all great people and are enthusiastic about teaching their students. I really have enjoyed all the classes that I have taken here, some are challenge and some are just great for learning new subjects.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get involved as much as you can. It is a little difficult at Csula because everyone commutes, but there is a club/activity out there for you. Try to get priority registration, because sometimes its difficult to get the classes you need/want. Csula is a great place to meet new people, just be friendly and you can make a lot of new friends.

    In three sentences

Good University for academics. In a good location, near heart of Los Angeles, but in a small quiet area of Alhambra. Campus has excellent transportation services, buses and metro links nearby.

    Campus Safety

I see security around every now and then. I haven't had anything stolen so far and once, I had to leave my laptop to use the restroom. When I came back, the girl that had been sitting next to me actually waited until I came back before leaving to her next class to make sure my items were not stolen. It was very sweet of her!

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of clubs and activities to join. Unfortunately, I am only in BGS because as a MBA student, I am on campus mostly at night. Sometimes I do come during the day and notice there are lots of activities going on.

Great for these types of students

CSULA is great if you want an affordable education and care about learning. If you don't care about learning and just want a fancy degree, try the UC system.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Haven't seen anything unusual yet other than the 150 steps, but that's a good way to workout!

    What to do for fun

There are lots of organizations you can join and also a gym and a game room. The gym is small but has many excellent machines.

    Food and Dining

The food options are ok. There is a large cafeteria that most students like. However, I prefer to eat healthy items and there are a limited amount of healthy shops on campus. However, there are options and options is better than nothing.

    Dorm Life

I am not dorming so I have no comments here.

    Academic Rigor

I really care about my education and about learning as much as possible to improve the success of my future. The professors here also care and if you try, you will learn a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for an affordable education that will train you for the real world, CSULA is a good choice. As a UCLA undergrad, I had medium expectations for CSULA, but now that I've been here for a year, I'm glad I chose CSULA because the professors and the material are well worth my time.

    In three sentences

CSULA has excellent professors that care about their students' education. The material they teach focus on timely topics that are relevant to the real world and the professors are very responsive to inquiries via technological platforms. Though the CSULA administration system needs improvement, their teaching staff makes my overall experience in CSULA's MBA program well worth my time and money.

    Tips for prospective students

Never, EVER procrastinate. CSULA has a quarter system, which consists of 10 weeks each. 10 weeks to learn each subject! WHAT WHAT WHAT? Yup. It's true. So once you fall behind, you'll most likely never get up again. Also, talk to professors; as hard as it may be to believe, they're really human and they want to help you!

    Bang for the buck

As far as colleges go, CSULA isn't considered expensive at all. I feel lucky to have been accepted here otherwise I'd be working my butt off through school, and that would really suck.

    Am enjoying being here

I've made lots of friends since coming here and it's really brightening up my college experience. Also, the Student Union provides lots of fun activities and we actually got free ice cream once; it was melting but still tasted great.

    Am learning a lot

My professors seem to know everything because they answer every question I put out there without flinching. Some of my past teachers discouraged asking questions because they were afraid that they wouldn't know the answer but CSULA professors either know the answer or help you find it. I love it!

Great for these types of students

Friendly, easy-going, go-getters, over-achievers, independent, high achievers, curious, young, old, commuters, live-on-campus, active

    Tips for prospective students

Find a major that involves something that you like to do or that you think you would be good at. If you don't know, don't fret. Once you start taking General Ed. classes you will begin to figure out the subjects you definitely do not want to explore and then those that you do. Explore the campus and don't be afraid to talk to people.

    Bang for the buck

CSU's in general are well worth it, because of how inexpensive they are. It does not matter what school you think looks the best on paper. What matters is that you pick a college that suits you and your needs. It is important to visit the college at least once and get a good feeling about the campus and the people. I am very happy with my choice because of my major, and the people in my department. There is no need to stress, because you are paying less than you would if you were to go to a private school or out of state school.

    Am enjoying being here

I was a transfer student coming to CSU LA and so I got used to the college environment pretty quickly. I am enjoying meeting new people in my major and talking to the professors. All the professors I have had I really enjoy. They have all been helpful and friendly. I also love getting to know people that have more life experience. There are a lot of commuters and older students.

    Am learning a lot

There is multiply opportunities to learn, not only from professors, but also from students you have classes with or are in the same major with. The people that go here are friendly and easy-going.

its still a bit cheaper than alot of other CSU's, but its fees have been increasing every year.

    What to do for fun

its, Los angeles! you can do whatever you want!

    Food and Dining

Unless you have a car the only dining out you youll be doing is Pizzahut delivery. Theres surprisingly not very many restraunts near the school , their all about 15 minute drive away, there are a few run of the mill fast food places atr their food court and nearby

    Dorm Life

although this school is known as a commuter school it actualy has a pretty livley dorming community. Lots of people, parties and pizza dinners. Its a great experience for students living on their own for the first time. The price of dorms have increased a bit in the last couple of years but its still reasonable.

    Academic Rigor

I can only speak for my department, Natural and social sciences, and i'de say its pretty rigouress. The average student takes 5 years rather than 4 to graduate.

    Tips for prospective students

plan your classes carefully. Dive right into your major classes because their often required in long sequences. Mix your more difficult major classes with your easier general education classes. This way you wont be stuck with all your intense hard classes you last two years.

    In three sentences

This school is a diamond in the rough because you will have to deal with the usual hassles of obtaining the classes you need and constant budget cuts as is the case with most CSU's at this point. However the faculty are absolutly great and come from some pretty amazing backrounds you wouldn't expect at a CSU. As long as you take advantage of the schools full resources and Speak with your academic advisor regularly you'll enjoy more diamond and experience less rough at CSU Los Angeles.

Campus safety is great at CSULA. You constantly see security guards walkung back and forth, watching our campus, parking structure, and most importantly keeping students safe. The few Ive came across with, have been very helpful on questions ive had regarding buildings and room numbers, very great attitudes and well informed.

    Clubs and Activities

Even though I am not involved in any clubs or any activities as much as I would like to, because of timing and commitments, I do have a few friends who play sports, such as soccer and volleyball at school. I like how often they have games and events for students, food drives, and informative sports stands. Fraternities and sororities, in the other hand, are great if you want to meet people, bei involved with school or community, and have work together. What to do for fun

The Student Union building has a variety of different things to do that are fun. In this building there is a game room where students can play ping pong, pool, x-box, watch t.v., and play different video games. There is also a gym and this gym hosts different classes such as, dance classes, zumba and other classes for free. Also there are plenty of computers to use for either academic or just for leisure time.

    Food and Dining

There are enough food choices but at the same time if your attending this school for all four years you will eventually get tired of the same food choices. The seating is good but during lunch time there isn't sitting due to the high school students that take all the seats.

    Dorm Life

The rent is way too much for having to share a dorm with four or more other students. There's only one bathroom per dorm. There's two refrigerators per dorm and two to three rooms depending on what dorm your placed in. The rooms are an average size. Overall I wouldn't suggest dorming it unless there is no other choice.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are easy, averaged, and hard. Majority of GE classes are easy and averaged but once students start there major classes especially upper division the classes get more challenging.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to always keep record of all the classes you take and financial records just in case the school loses your information. Regardless of difficult professors keep pressing on and makes sure you study hard and you will succeed in those classes. Go to tutoring when you feel its necessary.

    In three sentences

Cal State LA is a great school that offers exceptional academic programs that contribute to the students future in a positive way. Despite the excellent programs at Cal State LA the administration falls short of meeting the students needs effectively. Overall Cal State LA is an excellent school that allows students to grow in all aspects of life.

Great for these types of students

Working students. People who don't have cars and rely on buses to get to school. Students that are capable of making independent decisions and planning their own futures.

    Bang for the buck

It's not super pricey to go here.

    What to do for fun

Join a club. They have school events mostly in the late afternoon.

    Food and Dining

Not the best, and pretty expensive. Best to make your own lunch

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms. They're probably not that bad. But since it is a communter school it's probably better to live off campus if available.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the teacher and the course. The GE classes tend to be really easy, the major classes are slightly more difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

Have a major in mind that you want to take, it's not easy just getting general education classes alone. Its easy to make friends but since this is a commuter school the friendships tend to only last as long as the class does; get involved with a club. Registration is online and some people get priority over others, try to join EOP or engineering if you want your classes first.

    In three sentences

About half the teachers are very good and care about teaching while the other half seem to lack the skills required to teach. The campus is fairly plain with very little nature, mostly cement everywhere. It's an okay school to have as a back up but not necessarily the one you should aim for.

    Clubs and Activities

There is over 300 clubs and organizations and if none of them are of interest, individuals can start their own club.

Great for these types of students

For local residents. Students who are from local high schools and community colleges.

    Bang for the buck

It is an affordable school since payment's are broken down into three because of the quarter system. Parking is extremely affordable. We are the only campus that has a metro rail stop, which is convenient for users. Most students are local students which only live minutes away from campus, allowing them to return home whenever they like.

    What to do for fun

There is many attractions around campus such as Hollywood, Santa Monica beach, Downtown LA. All these areas have night clubs, bars, restaurants and many shops. Also there is theme parks near by such as: Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm.

    Food and Dining

There is Starbucks which is great! Newly added is Sbarros. There is also Pollo Loco, Carl's Jr. Sushi, and American cuisine. All around food.

    Dorm Life

There in no dorms on campus, they are apartment style housing, which means there is a kitchen and living room for students to cook and relax. They are much better than dorms!

    Academic Rigor

All classes require work, if student's complain to more difficult school will be for them. It is all about time management.

    Tips for prospective students

Speak to a counselor every quarter to stay on track. Get involved in a club or organization to be more active in school.

    In three sentences

Convenient and close by home. Quarter system is the best and makes college great. It's an easy campus to get around.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus before making a choice, you might be interested in a small campus but you should see what you want before hand. Also, try to take some summer classes before starting officially.

    In three sentences

At Csula students are able relax and to get more connected with each other and with their teachers. What to do for fun

For fun mostly just hang out with friends and visit others' dorms.

    Food and Dining

Living in the dorms one can have the meal plan. I did not have the meal plan because it cost too much and the food was not good either. The dorms are Cal State LA are apartments so I wen to the grocery store and cooked my own food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty nice and the living ways are great, but the housing office could do a much better job in making the students' stay better.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are not extremely hard, they remind me of being back in high school.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus and sit in the classes before you decide which school you want to go to. I was unfortunately not able to visit the universities I was thinking about attending because of financial burdens. If you decided to attend Cal State LA, defiantly apply to the Honors College.

    In three sentences

Cal State LA is not a school I want to attend to finish my degree. As an aspiring lawyer I do not feel it is the place for me to become a great lawyer under a business management major. Cal State LA is a great school for nursing major, and I do not want to be a nurse.

    Bang for the buck

Great. The school provides students with many options. they are very friendly and prompt at the financial aid office. The book store had renting system for books. The library might have needed course books on reserve which are free just need a library card. There is a MC Donald's down the street eating there off the dollar menu can save money.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

great variety but after 3 years the food choices are boring

    Dorm Life

do not dorm, but my friends did they loved it

    Academic Rigor

Intense. Professors do not joke around and are not very empathetic. Read, attend class, follow in class, study and you will do fine

    Tips for prospective students

Do your work! Many of us are not used to a quarter system and do not realize how short 10 weeks really are. Meet with an adviser to track your status. If parking is ever full park in 7a it is always empty probably because you have to walk up a hill of 9 flights of stairs.

    Campus Safety

There is always cops on campus and security all over the place. In the parking lots and in various places in school they have the emergency call boxes in case of anything. The school is around the urban area of Los Angeles, but the diversity of the cultures is a thing of beauty on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs, but there isn't a lot of variety. Most of the clubs are small, but there are more forming!

Great for these types of students

The school is great for the student that is not afraid to work hard to achieve their goals, and not afraid to get what they want.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The school usually has Welcome Week in the first weeks of school where all the clubs come out to recruit new people. Then around Spring Quarter there is I love CSULA festival that is awesome; with the games and winning shirts, tumblers, and other freebies, with music from local bands or underground starters! We usually get directors from TV shows coming to our school, and they film on campus and sometimes the students get to try out to be extras on their shows!

    Bang for the buck

The school itself is wonderful. It's big but small enough to remember where everything is. Just with the your money make sure you make them feel like your the bull in their china shop, not for the recklessness, but for the authority you have in your education.

    What to do for fun

I recommend two places. The Pit and the X-treme Fitness Gym. In The Pit you have billiards, cable TV, and for your Xbox360 lovers, I think 4 consoles with Gears of War, MW3, Halo, and sport games for very low prices, thanks to geniuses who destroyed the pool sticks and the felt off the table so it's for maintenance and new supplies for it.

    Food and Dining

The food is adequate for the hungry college student. Jonhy's Kitchen is the BEST place to get breakfast, lunch and dinner. The student store has an assortment of snacks and drinks that are pretty cheap and at the moment foods.

    Dorm Life

I wouldn't be able to know how dorm life is. Although I've heard that the dorms have good parties for time to time.

    Academic Rigor

The academia in the school is straight to the point. If you take notes, pay attention and read the books you should be fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to assert yourself especially when it comes to your tuition. Don't be afraid to claim what is rightfully yours in respectful boundaries, of course. If you don't you might end up with what happened to me, I had to pay my four quarters because I was too afraid to ask for my money. It's better to ask an older student that has been there for a couple of years, they can help you in ways that easier to understand and won't beat around the bush. Student Affairs 101 is a life saver to find your classes, and the people in there are very friendly and willing to help you. Teachers will not nag you for your due date or attending their classes. You are paying for them and it's all on your shoulders and no one else. Remember, this isn't high school.

    In three sentences

It isn't the best school when dealing with your financial aid. It has great classes but a lot of the the staff in the cashier's and financial aid office don't help you correctly. The teachers are amazing and they do help you when you need it.

The computer lab in the King Hall basement is the best place to find a free computer. I also like to take naps on the USU back balcony. It's so relaxing there.

    Bang for the buck

The books are overpriced, you should try Chegg.com, Amazon.com, or other websites before buying at the bookstore. Although they are having more options to rent.

    What to do for fun

There are many events, field trips, clubs, and conferences to attend on campus.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria could be better. I like to eat at the restaurant. It's much fancier and very affordable. They have a small menu but their food is delicious.

    Dorm Life

It's not fancy or UCLA but the rooms are very spacious. If you get lucky, like I did, you can end up with the best roommates ever. There are many social events and the meal plan is affordable.

    Academic Rigor

My freshman year was fairly easy, but I guess that's expected of 100/200 level classes. Once you get to the 300/400, they are challenging but worth the pay.

    Tips for prospective students

CSULA has a variety of majors, but be sure they have what you truly aspire to study. Go to the career fair, it's easy to land a job on campus if you attend.

    Greek Life

I am currently in Gamma Zeta Alpha National Fraternity, Inc. I can honestly say that is by far one of the greatest decision I have made. Greek life is great here but only if you decide to make it great and put your self out there to socialize. Since the univeristy is in Los Angeles and there are several universities all over the city there getting to know other people comes easy and can help you out in the long run.

Great for these types of students

Students who prefer more privacy because of the dorms.

    What to do for fun

There are several things to do to have fun, but the only way you will be able to and know about what is going on around campus is if you get involved as much as possible. The university is five minutes away from down town and 20 minutes away from the beach if you have a car you will always have something to do.

    Food and Dining

I will be honest and say that the food here is not good at all. I had the meal plan my freshman year and I did not like it at all. You only have a lunch and dinner meal and on weekends a morning brunch. If you miss it, you lose it basically. I would advice that one cooks at their apartment instead.

    Dorm Life

Dorms here are great they are not typical university dorms with hallways but rather apartments. When i first attended CSULA it was the first thing I noticed it is just apartments with students living here its awesome.

    Academic Rigor

I am a current sophomore so I cannot say that classes are very difficult mostly because I am taking my under grad classes. As of right now my first year was fairly easy. The only thing I had a hard time getting used to was the quarter system, it goes by too fast!

    Tips for prospective students

The campus is not big at all, which makes most classes fairly easy to find. The housing life is great mostly because the dorms here are not the typical dorms with hallways and cluttered rooms, but rather we have apartments. its great for those who prefer more privacy and would rather cook than to have the schools meal plan. The university itself has a very large body of commuting students, but since the past year I have been here student housing has been getting larger and gives it a better and more enjoyable life to campus. Overall I enjoy this school because it is in the middle of Los Angeles and there is always something to do on the weekends.

    In three sentences

Overall the campus is very small, but very close to where all the action happens in Los Angeles. There is always something to do, whether it is on campus, dorms, or an organization on campus having an event outside. Classes here are great I am a current sophomore and I have had no problem with getting every class I need, also professors are great. I would definitely rate this school a 9 based on classes and student life.

    Clubs and Activities

    What to do for fun

The school has a fitness center and often have organized events that people can go to. For example, there's an event call Moonlight Breakfast , where the student can eat breakfast at night for free and it is all you can eat.

    Food and Dining

The school has a mini food court that students can purchase food from Carl's Jr, El Pollo Loco and a few more. There is also a University Cafe right next to the food court. The food there is pretty good and there's a 10% discount for student eating there.

    Academic Rigor

From the lower G.E. classes that I have taken, they were all generally easy and fun. The workload from each classes varies.

    Tips for prospective students

Books can be very expensive for some of the classes so always try to look for a cheaper book. There's a bus shuttle at school, that takes student to a book mart. The books there are a little cheaper then the book store at school.

    Dorm Life

I do not dorm however I did look into dorming and they look okay. Just from visiting one and looking at the cost I would say it is not overpriced but they were not for me.

    Academic Rigor

To be honest most of the GE's (general requirements) I have taken where not hard. The assignments and tests were not hard as long as you studied. However, there are those professors who are not so lenient, so always do your best in all your classes and don't slack off.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure the program you want to major in is not impacted or else you will definitely need to step up those grades because it will get competitive. It might be cheaper to commute than to drive, so see what ways you can get to school ( train, bus, etc) that way you can save money for other expenses.

    In three sentences

Cal State LA is a fun school where majority of the students commute since it is not far from downtown LA. It is not a small school and is full of students who are eager to learn and has a lot of academic programs which are highly competitive. Its college so it takes a lot of work but communicate with your instructors and build on the interaction.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to ask questions during orientation. Go to the advisement center to plan out you academic year(s). Tuition is high so use it wisely. Don't abuse the financial aid you receive. (You will regret it later when you need the extra money for books and fees).

    In three sentences

CSULA is a wonderful campus with a wide diversity of students. Everyone (staff, students, etc) is helpful and punctual. Classes maybe difficult to get but Student Government is very productive and proactive (interacts via Facebook for convenience).

    Campus Safety

Overall campus safety sucks you better hope nothing goes missing because you will not get it back. They do not do any investigations on any crime.

Great for these types of students

This school is so diverse it is ideal for anybody. Everybody can fit in.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The stairs are a killer but they will get you in shape.

    Bang for the buck

This school is cheap for in state students and a little pricey for out of state students. The school doesn't offer much career and financial help.

    What to do for fun

For fun my roommates and I go to clubs, parties, and kickbacks. If we get really bored we just have an all roommate outing.

    Food and Dining

Meal Plan isn't good and the people that work their are slow when the food runs out. A new dining hall is getting built for next school year so hopefully it should be better. The cafeteria isn't bad it depends on taste preference.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is the best thing that I did. Being out of state I wanted to experience Los Angeles but at the same time I wanted to be close to school.

    Academic Rigor

The rigor of the courses depends on your major and whether they are upper division or lower division. Overall the classes aren't too hard but at the same time they aren't that easy. It honestly depends on the teacher.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are an incoming freshman my advise to you is to live on campus. You'll get used to the Los Angeles life style while getting used to college and the difference in work load.

    In three sentences

This school has a beautiful campus, however the campus life isn't all that great. The school isn't much help when it comes to financial aid, classes, and some teachers can't really teach very well. Dorming here is the best idea for anybody just coming to Los Angeles.

    What to do for fun

I am a very athletic person, I love to run and play plenty of soccer with my friends and family. I like using my free time to something very productive and it helps me to stay in shape.

    Food and Dining

I have never tried the food at the campus but I have heard that the food is quite pleasant. My brother's girlfriend told me that the food is worth whatever you are paying.

    Dorm Life

I do not plan on dorming so I am not sure what that experience feels like. Nonetheless, my good friend dorms and Cal State LA and he told me it's not the best dorming there, but it certainly is worth it if you live far from the campus.

    Academic Rigor

In high school I realized that I had trouble understanding certain material and proccesing information. I noticed that a 1 on 1 tutoring helped me out alot. I have learned that i shouldn't cram information but space out my study sessions.

    Tips for prospective students

I believe students should visit the campus and just experience what CSULA has to offer. It would be wise to apply for a summer preporatory program to be atleast one step ahead. I reccomend speaking to former Cal State LA students to ask how their experience was.

    In three sentences

So far I have attended CSULA campus about 3 times and out of a 10 Irate the campus and administration a 9. The campus is huge in my opinion but easy to get around and find exactly what you need. I have been accepted through EOP and that program and counselors make me feel very welcome and excited to attend in the fall 2013.

    Greek Life

I want to join but being a freshman I haven't tried getting in yet. They throw amazing parties though/

    Clubs and Activities

I haven't been on campus for long enough but there are clubs for every need and it helps make the best of friends. In the club they do tons of activities or you can go to the beach, shop, see a movie or go see a game with friends.

    What to do for fun

It depends on what type of person you are but there are many clubs to join and I would recommend that for freshman to integrate you and they provide tons of fun activities.

    Food and Dining

They have all the food areas and wifi, many different types of places and you don't even have to leave campus.

    Dorm Life

I love it here and the atmosphere and social life combined makes the campus comfortable to live in.

    Academic Rigor

It challenges you but depending on what courses you are taking depends on how hard your teachers will push you.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to do your best, if you slack off it will definitely show when you take finals. The ap.artments are definitely worth the extra money so just make sure you find a job to pay for it all

    In three sentences

    Clubs and Activities

At the beginning, middle, and/or end of each quarter clubs and greeks advertise themselves in the main walkway or at the center of the campus. Also, throughout each quarter they have a substantial amount of different and interesting activities going on, which is pretty great.

    What to do for fun

Explore the surrounding cities and especially downtown L.A. Little Tokyo is relatively close and there are great food places and cafes around that area. Go to parks, museums/galleries, and architectural destinations in downtown; it's worth it! There are also great places to eat in Alhambra or Monterey Park.

    Food and Dining

Johnny's is the best the campus has to offer because the prices are relatively fair and they are a healthier choice over the rest really. There is also the Campus Club, which is a bit pricier than Johnny's, but seems to have some good deals sometimes. I've tried a couple of their dishes and they were pretty good as well. You can get tired of the menu on campus after your first year though so pack lunches if you don't have enough time between classes to leave campus or find ways to eat outside of campus with friends.

    Academic Rigor

Most, if not all, of the instructors I've had so far truly and positively challenge their students and encourage them to work hard, focus, and try their best. Ratemyprofessor.com helps with that quite a lot!

    Tips for prospective students

Meet with your advisor at least once a year and maybe even twice your first year so that you can stay on the right track and have your questions (which you will have) answered. If you commute the best way is taking the bus because it saves you so much money. You don't have to pay for the $80 parking pass every quarter and the student discount on the monthly pass is unbeatable as compared to paying for weekly gas expenses. The only downside to not driving to school is that you are stuck with the cafeteria food since there aren't many great outside options that are at a walking distance to the campus, but you can pack a lunch sometimes to keep your diet interesting!

    In three sentences

CSULA is a safe and well-located campus. It has great transportation accessibility with a train and bus depot attached to the campus. The campus, staff, and faculty have their ups and downs, but I would say that my experience has been more on the positive side.

Also, look into dorms, they aren't as expensive as other schools, if you're efc is 0, you may be fully covered! Parking permit is not that expensive either like $360 for the annual permit. Other CSU's charge $250 or more for just a semester. This University graduates many first generation students, so if you'd like to have peers from a similar background this school is best. I attended a school where that wasn't the norm, and it made me feel out of place. So, definitely get a feel for exactly what kind of school you want to go to, a school where you will feel comfortable.

    Campus Safety

I would rate this school a three star for campus safety there are emergency polls on campus but there aren't too many security guards around.

    Greek Life

There are many to pick from during the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs such as ASI as well as sororities and fraternities.

Great for these types of students

If you like large crowds and a over 20,000 population school than this is the school for you. Also if you like a fast pace.

This past week we has our Homecoming week where there is rally's and floats that parade through the campus in honor of this week. There is also a bowling tournament at the end of the week where the whole school is united together.

    Bang for the buck

This would be considered an average school. There are many students so it does get a bit hectic when trying to get into classes. However, overall its a great price in comparison to other universities.

    What to do for fun

For fun CSULA offers many clubs to join such as ASI which is student government and there are also a variety of sororities and fraternities to join.

    Food and Dining

I love the food here! There are many things to pick from such as Carls Jr. and El Pollo Loco. The lines are a bit long but they do go by fast.

    Dorm Life

The dorms here are apartment style meaning there is a restroom, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. They are nice buildings and they do have gaming rooms as well as a cafeteria and social activities that do go on within the doming facilities.

    Academic Rigor

There are many studnets who attend CSULA therefore expect large crowds of people, as well as many people in your class. The classes move very quickly. I would rate this a three star

    Tips for prospective students

You should be prepared for large classes. The classes go by extremely quick since it is a 10 week system. But most of all never miss class because the teachers do move quickly and missing one day is in comparison to missing a week.

    In three sentences

California State University is a great school. They provide their students with many available resources to help them succeed such as tutoring, online tutoring, health care facilities, as well as many library resources. although there may be many students, it is quite easy to get into classes as well, it may just stake some time to get used too.

Great college environment, students come from many social economical background mostly where the students are first to be perusing a high education in their family that inspire me cause students are serious in their college education experience. Professors can be helpful but the administration with the financial offices need to changes the way to help the students. CSLAU was not my choice of school but that is the closes one and the affordable, but now I will recommend it. I am having a great experience, and I am learning a lot. I am happy to be at CSLAU
