Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who like a relaxed atmosphere. People who do not want to be too far or close to the city. Great for people who are ready to work hard and succeed. Cal U is a great place for anyone that wants to accept the schools values and have the best four years of their life.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared. This is college now, if your not used to lots of people be ready for some culture shock. But remember everyone else is going through the same thing you are. College is fast paced. There is going to be more work, harder tests, lots of reading, and many new concepts thrown at you even in the first few weeks of school. Remember to try to enter with an open mind and that your professors are always there to help you. Don't be scared and have some fun. While college can be scary at first, coming in with an open mind will really help you make the transition. Sometimes college can seem overwhelming in those first few days or weeks but you will get through it with support from friends, family, and professors. Do not forget to lean on the people who can help you, no one can go at it alone.
Bang for the buck You will get you monies worth here. At Cal U you can really see your money being put into action. With the new dorms, which are some of the best I Have ever seen, the brand new gym, scheduled to open this school year, or the parking high rise and convocation center that are currently in construction. Anywhere you look at Cal you can see you money being put to work.
Am enjoying being here One word comes to mind when describing my feeling of being here at Cal U-Love. It is tucked in a rural area of western P.A., far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a big city, but close enough to Pittsburgh for a weekend visit. California University of P.A. has a beautiful campus that is complimented by a nice small town where there is always something going on. The people at this school are always very friendly and making friends here is one of the easiest things to do, just make sure you remember to study!
Am learning a lot At California University of P.A. you will come across many professors that push you to not only learn but understand what you are learning and apply it in your everyday life. Cal U professors are among the best I have ever come across and seem to truly care about their students and there individual success.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who like to be involved in clubs/organizations, this will keep you occupied. If you're not one of those types of people you will probably find yourself bored. Those who have the motivation and desire to learn. This is college, the professors aren't going to push you every step of the way to complete homework, go to class. etc. Those who like meeting new people from many locations.
Tips for prospective students Choose the best meal plan that fits you and your lifestyle, you don't want to be wasting money on meals you aren't using. Definitely look into scholarships, it's worth a shot and it's free money. What more could you ask for? Consider what type of living arrangement you want. Cal offers many types, some are more expensive than others. Don't try to live above your means or what you are comfortable with.
Bang for the buck The cost is excellent compared to other schools I was comparing. You definitely get your moneys worth in paying for a dorm. When choosing a meal plan consider how many meals you think you will eat each day.
Am enjoying being here People are really friendly on campus, and though there isn't much in town, there are plenty of clubs to be involved with. Also, the Student Activities Board comes up with activities and people who visit the campus to perform. We've had many comedians visit campus including Bob Saget. The gym is also another way to keep busy if you're worried about being bored. The campus is absolutely beautiful. Sometimes the food in the Gold Rush dining area could be better, but the Student Union offers other food options.
Academic Rigor As with any Gen Ed's, you can expect some repetition from information you learned in high school. You can definitely expect to be exposed to new information, ideas, and opinions at Cal. The teachers in upper level classes are challenging but they are always willing to talk and answer any questions you have.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you want a hometown type campus feel with a big city education Cal U is your school!
Tips for prospective students Take your SAT and ACT scores seriously. If you do well on these test half of your battle is won if you chose this school.
Bang for the buck I think of the Colleges in PA that compare to Cal U you are definitely getting what you paid for with Cal U and some.
Am enjoying being here California is a small town and the campus does not have much around it. So there is not a lot to do here, but if you are into sports you will have a good time.
Am learning a lot The curriculum is good. The school does not just want to build a good student, but your character as well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I believe that this is the only factor where the campus lacks a bit in its duties. With new renovations and new campus policies, Cal U appears to still be adjusting. There are no cameras outside of the buildings on campus and the shuttle service to different parking areas is outrageous and potentially dangerous at night. There is a public safety department on campus, but it is not always the most reliable source for help.
Greek Life There are many sororities and fraternities to pick from. Usually during the first few weeks of the semester, these organizations will host a Student Rush Week in order to sign new members.
Clubs and Activities Read above.
Great for these types of students Students who thrive in small classroom environments, one-on-one time to speak to advisors and professors, and those who are in need of accomodations and modifications. This campus consists of many departments such as The Office of Students With Disabilities who help each student find what works for them, if need be. Faculty members in all departments I've experienced have been more than helpful.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are many sculptural forms across campus along with beautiful brick buildings and a serene and picturesque landscape. In the fall semester, it is common to see students complete homework assignments in the grassy areas, under the big Sycamore trees.
Bang for the buck Although tuition costs have gone up for every college student in the state of PA, Cal U is quite reasonable with the costs. It is much less expensive to find an apartment off-campus as housing can be quite pricey.
What to do for fun There are countless activities, events, and activities - all of which are listed in the complementary California University of Pennsylvania daily planner given by the University. Special events are posted in various places around the university - the most common place being the Natali Student Union.
Food and Dining There are many dining options, including a food court, an all-you-can-eat buffet, coffee shop, hoagie/sub shop, and various sandwhich shops. Most of the food here is very good and there are many options for different types of diets including vegan and vegetarian dietary options.
Dorm Life The dorms are spacious, clean, and roomy. They are cozy for students and a welcome change from neighboring colleges and universities.
Academic Rigor Every professor and faculty member, with the exception of only a few, works hard to help students acheive and become the best in their chosen field of study.
Tips for prospective students My number one tip for prospective students is to take advantage of all the oppurtunities available at California University including clubs/organizations, honor socieities, student art exhibitions, and athletics.
In three sentences California University of Pennsylvania is a great small, hometown college with many different academic choices. The faculty interaction with the students is unsurpassed and it is more than apparent that everyone involved in your educational journey is there to help you do your best and become the best at what you do. California University, or Cal U, is a superb university for those wishing to instill the values of integrity, civility, and responsibility.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Something that is fun to do on campus is being outside when it is nice and hanging out with the different people here. Or, going to sporting events, hanging out and getting food, or going tanning off campus.
Food and Dining Food is something everyone must have to survive, and at this college campus, you will have no problem finding something you like. They have a range of foods, drinks, and snacks that are open at all different times of the day or night.
Dorm Life The people in my hall are friendly and very out going. They welcome all new people and are fun to have around. Although the walls are thin and you can smell what every one else is cooking, you get to know people better.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor here can be challenging but it is still fun because the classes are interactive. Also, if you do not like what you are learning, then it will not be fun to learn.
Tips for prospective students A tip for any prospective student would be to know what you want to do before you attend here, because if you do not know, then it makes it more difficult to decide.
In three sentences The campus is a beautiful place with friendly people. California University of Pennsylvania has a a campus that is easy to walk around, and get to classes on time. Also, the college is challenging, interactive, and fun.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are plenty of CalU public safety that you see on campus keeping us safe.
Great for these types of students If you are looking for a relatively laid back and smaller campus this is a great choice for you.
Bang for the buck Although the tuition for public state schools is going up, CalU is still a lot cheaper than most private schools.
What to do for fun There are plenty of clubs to join on campus. Most students choose to join sororities and fraternities. If you enjoy working out the gym offers plenty of different classes to take. The Student Activities Board hosts several activities a week including comedy shows, concerts, game shows, etc. There are also movies played daily that have not yet been released on DVD.
Food and Dining There are a few different dining options to choose from at Cal. I think they could use a few more places because students get sick of eating the same thing all year.
Dorm Life The dorms at CalU are really nice. All dorms have a bathroom in them and they're spacious compared to a lot of other schools. The dorms are relatively new and safe to live in.
Academic Rigor All of the professors that I have had are reasonable and not too harsh with their class work. It depends what level class you are taking, but that is how it is at any university. If you work hard you will get an A in any class.
In three sentences CalU has a lovely smaller size campus and your teachers will get to know you by name. The online program CalU offers is great and is one of the best in the nation. Living on campus is fun and safe.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Public safety is constantly circling around the campus. They are available whenever by just calling them. Their constant patrolling makes the campus feel safe.
Greek Life There are social sororities and fraternities on campus, as well as service fraternities and academic fraternities for some majors. Greek life is one way to find a way to fit in with a group of people and a way to get more involved not just on campus but in an organization such as the national kidney foundation, or the Alzheimer's foundation. there are 5 sororities on campus and 5 or 6 fraternities. Each have a philanthropy and have their own rituals that they do.
Clubs and Activities There is a club and activity for any interest on campus. There are over 150 majors on campus and over 200 clubs and organizations on campus. There is a place for anyone to find themselves and where they belong here on campus.
Great for these types of students I think Cal U is great for any type of student. If you're not a really good student there are tutors available on campus, the professors for your classes are always reach able, there is a writing center, and math lab to help improve writing skills and help in math classes. For advanced students, Cal U has a lot of opportunities to expand your resume and find internships in order to see if the major chosen is what's right for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Students used to put bagels on this one statue's finger. Another tradition, which is suppose to give luck is hitting the Vulcan's hammer on the statue outside of Herron Fitness Center. Neat locations on campus are the fountains, the one by Noss, and the convocation center, the courtyard behind old main and the quad, where there is turf instead of grass.
Bang for the buck Cal U is an affordable university because it is part of the state system school chain in Pennsylvania. And they help give you as much financial aid as you qualify for which helps a lot when you're like me and struggling to pay for college.
What to do for fun There is a movie theater on campus showing current movies, and there are always events going on whether they are on campus or off campus. Students buy tickets for events in Pittsburgh and Cal u will have a bus available to take students downtown, and bring them back. Student Activities Board brings comedians in on Friday nights, and seminars and events. Usually every night of the week something is going on somewhere.
Food and Dining The food at Cal U is a huge variety. Wraps are a big thing on our campus, people love eating wraps either grilled, or cold wrapped. But you can get burgers and fries if that's just what your craving too. There is an area by the gym which is strictly healthy foods. Finally the cafeteria which offers four different bars to eat at giving a large variety of different kinds of foods you may want. I enjoy eating there because of the variety. One of the other great places to go is flatz, which is like a convenience store on campus. I love eating at all the different places, and grabbing a cup of coffee in the morning at the coffee shop on campus. I think the food is great, and whatever I'm craving I usually am able to get it, no matter the time.
Dorm Life I loved living in the dorms during my first year on campus. I met some of my best friends living on my floor. It was exciting to meet new people. The dorms felt more like apartments with our own bathrooms and windows. My roommate and I got along really well. I spent many nights with my friends hanging out in the lounges where we would have movie nights and make food in the kitchen at three in the morning.
Academic Rigor Some general classes are easy, they sometimes won't challenge you as much as you would like them too, where others do give that challenge. When doing classes for your major I feel that it is difficult, but with the right amount of time given to the work it will not be so bad. It's challenging but not impossible.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students I would say treat your Cal card like gold, never lose it because it's how you get into your dorms, it has your meal plan, helps rent books and allows access to events on campus. I would also say, learn where the buildings are and explore the campus. A must is to make time to make friends that way even in a small town, you will never be bored. Take advantage of opportunities on campus, such as leader for life programs, the different clubs, find where you belong and build off of your interests.
In three sentences I love the campus life at California University of Pennsylvania because there are always people all over the campus. There is no limit of what you can get involved in on campus or off campus. The University gives opportunities to their students such as 7 habits of highly effective people training that I think really help prepare students for life after college.

Categories Comments Will enjoy being here They offer amazing residence halls. They also have plenty of things to do in each hall. There is a kitchen, a game room, and a room with a television with plenty of seating. They also have a movie theater, a coffee shop, and a large book/convenience store.
Will learn a lot I have not heard much about the academic aspect of this school. I mostly hear about the residence halls. However, they do offer an honors program with a separate residence hall just for honors students.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who like alot of free time.
Tips for prospective students Think about if you like to have alot of free time or if you like to get good use of the hours in your day because being at Cal, alot of time is wasted being bored with nothing to do. Also, look at the price & compare to other colleges that you're interested in.
Bang for the buck Cal is too expensive; not worth all the money I paid to be here. Most of the price is in the dorms, which are nice but not worth it. I'm considering transfering to a college where I can get more for my money.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful, but there's really nothing to do when you're done with classes. It's actually very boring, this is definitely not the college experience that I expected. Basically, unless you plan on getting wasted every night, you're going to go out of your mind with boredom.
Am learning a lot In high school I was the type of student who got good grades with little effort. Everyone told me that would change when I got to college, but it definitely has not changed. I really haven't learned much at all so far.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want to live in a relatively calm setting that is close enough to a city to go and have fun on the weekends, but not so close that it is distracting to academics could really enjoy it here. Cal isn't about just one thing, be it just academics, or just sports, or just parties. A lot of great things about this school come in equal amounts, which makes it well balanced, so anyone looking for a well rounded experience would find it easy to acclimate to this school.
Tips for prospective students Take a tour of the campus first, I would say that Cal is a small campus in a rural area, and that may not be right for everyone. Talk to people who attend or have attended, ask them questions. If you come here, take the Covey class! It's called the seven habits of highly effective people, and it can be a mind altering class, if you let it be. It's free to everyone, as all the people who teach it are volunteers, so it is a great experience.
Bang for the buck For such a widely known university, Cal U has reasonable tuition. As the parking situation is relatively new though, it may take the campus a while to get it worked out, which is perfectly acceptable. There is always construction going on, which is a great sign for any university. It means that they are constantly upgrading facilities to better serve their students. The residence halls are so nice, not cinder block prison walls with no windows. You get your own bathroom! No community showers. And, you get air conditioning too.
Will enjoy being here Teachers seem to always be willing to dig into their extra time for their students, even those that are extremely busy. Service to the school and the community are both important to the faculty and staff at Cal U, from the grounds keepers to the higher ups in old main. The food at the goldrush and other places around campus is great.
Will learn a lot All of the teachers I've met are friendly and ready to help. The admissions and financial aid staff are patient and listen well if you have a question or do not understand something. Talking with them is like having a conversation with a friend, and the environment is relatively relaxed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is not a problem. There are always cops around and you can call for public safety is there is ever a problem. There is a health center on campus also.
Clubs and Activities There are clubs and activities for almost every major you can think of. We even have a quidditch team that gets together and gets to express there interest for Harry Potter. You can get involved in anything that interests you!
Great for these types of students Cal is great for students that want one more attention from the professors and don't like huge classes. You get more one on one with the professors and they are always willing to assist you in anyway. I would recommend this school to someone who likes a small town and a smaller school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus is very pretty, and always clean. There are two gorgeous fountains around the campus. One lights up different colors and is just beautiful. There are also statues around campus that make it more interesting.
What to do for fun There is a lot to do for fun around Cal dealing with the many events that are always going on at the turf in the middle of the dorms. There are always plays going on in the theatre, and also a movie theatre that has different movies playing at different times. There is a gym open to anyone that wants to go work out and inside the gym is a swimming pool, a track, and two basketball courts.
Food and Dining The food and dining is delicious, and there are many different options. There is different places throughout the student center such as, a cafeteria/ buffet, a place called Taylor and burnes that sells breakfast sandwiches and coffee, another place that sells different kinds of sandwiches, and a place called flatz that sells about everything you could imagine and is open late for students.
Dorm Life The Dorm life that I experienced my first year was excellent because there is a bathroom and shower in each room so you don't have to walk down the hallway to a community one. The dorms are pretty much brand new and very big for college dorms. They are not your ideal dorms when you think of college. You have a choice of being in a quad with 3 other people and each quad also has 2 bathrooms and 2 showers within it.
Academic Rigor The academic part of the school is not very hard. It is great because there are so many classes that are able to be taken online for students who commute or are involved with sports teams. The schooling is not hard, as long as you get your work done and the professors are always willing to help you if you need help.
Tips for prospective students It is a small school, but not too small. There isn't much near the campus, but most malls and other fun stuff are approximately 30 minutes way including the city of Pittsburgh.
In three sentences California University of PA is a well known division 2, outgoing, small college that is willing to build relationships with the students attending it. The campus is improving with a new convocation center that was just built in the Fall. Almost every sports team is ranked in their conferences, and are amazing to watch.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Really not that much, small town not much to do except make your own fun.
Food and Dining Although the marketing team for the food and dining is spectacular, the food preparation and service really isn't that great. Many times I chose not to eat at the facilities.
Dorm Life State of the art dorms. Higher up in price but the comfort level is astounding.
Academic Rigor The classes really aren't too hard unless you choose science majors in which case the classes will become for difficult.
Tips for prospective students Know exactly where you plan your academic career instead of staying undecided or on the fence because if not, you might be staying longer than four years.
In three sentences California University of PA is very technologically advanced. They have dedicated teachers and faculty. The cost is lower than most colleges.

Bang for the buck Definitely worth your money!
What to do for fun You have many clubs that you can join and they have video games and tv's you can play while on break
Food and Dining Again I commute but the couple of times i bought food from CalU it was very good!
Dorm Life I commute but from what I hear from friends it is not bad.
Academic Rigor The teachers are really educated in their field and you get the best education money can buy.
Tips for prospective students Definitely come visit to see if it is the college for you, because it may not be the college for you. Everyone has different things they are looking for in a college.
In three sentences California is a great school that really surprised. Before i visited I did not see CalU as a good school. But once I visited and saw how kind and nice the people were I instantly new it was the school for me.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you aren't really into the whole city thing, you will really like Cal-U.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus because I'm sure that you will love it.
Bang for the buck Cal-U's price is perfect. I know that I will get exactly what I will pay for and more.
Will enjoy being here I am from a smaller town so Cal-U is the perfect size for me. I like how the buses run into Pittsburgh so I can always go there if I get bored. I also love the set-up of the campus and the dorm rooms are very nice and spacious.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Cal is great for any student that wants to get a taste of freedom but still wants to feel like they are a part of a family.
Bang for the buck This year tuition and other fees went up. I'm guessing that it's because a new convocation center was being built. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm hoping it is worth the money.
Am enjoying being here This campus isn't too big or too small; it's just right. There is plenty to do and everyone makes you feel welcome.
Am learning a lot The professors here are really good with returning emails and answering any questions that you have. I haven't had a lot of homework yet but the work that I have done so far is enough to get me thinking.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People from small towns probably will find this college attractive.
Tips for prospective students This is you classic average sized school. To some it will seem in the middle of nowhere to others it will seem just right. This school doesn't have an extensively wide range of majors so it would help you to have a major in interest while looking at this school. The campus is growing along with the quality of learning.
Bang for the buck I believe I am receiving a respectable education for the cost of tuition.
Am enjoying being here There is always something fun to do.
Am learning a lot Professors will push you to learn and help you if you get stuck, but remember this is a university.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those that are not looking for much of a campus life and would rather be studying.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is nothing really traditional about the campus. They just have a bunch of statues around campus that represent different important people.
What to do for fun NOTHING.
Tips for prospective students If you are going to attend CalU I advise you to expect issues along the way. The people in charge of records are very disorganized and will mess at least two things up along the way. Also, apply for something they are known for. NOT THEIR NURSING PROGRAM.
In three sentences California University is a great college full of great professors. These professors know you by name, and my biggest class so far has been 45 kids. I love the campus and the environment surrounding CalU.

Categories Comments What to do for fun there's usually a lot to do for fun during the warmer months but over winter it gets kind of boring.
Food and Dining there are lots of food options and it is all very good!
Dorm Life the dorms are very new and are beautiful. everyone has their own bathroom to themselves. if you keep the door open to your room it's a great way to meet friends!
Academic Rigor it's the perfect balance between challenging and rewarding.
Tips for prospective students if you are looking for a large college this is not the place for you. also it is important to stay on top of your classes and study every day. don't party during the week, save it for the weekends.
In three sentences it is a fun, and very closely knit college. it's in a small town which allows you to make friends easily. an overall great school academically and socially.

Greek Life there are plenty of greek live chapters and as well as a few new editions!
Clubs and Activities they are plentiful and amazing! over 200 i believe to get involved in.
Great for these types of students great for all types of students whose major is available!
Bang for the buck this school has provided me with great friends, opportunities( intership with pepsi, my roommate with google) adventures and memories that i will never forget and it's only my 2nd year. i love it!
What to do for fun there are countless clubs to be involved in and a great greek system. as well as plenty of friends and an activities board( i am a officer) that provides amazing trips, novelties and live shows of all kinds and there is an open mic cafe. i
Food and Dining the food is great for awhile but gets old pretty quick, but the plus side is they are soon remodeling and changing all of that.
Dorm Life the best dorms you probably ever see and or get to live in.
Academic Rigor i believe the academic rigor is tough for people who cannot manage their time well, other than that calu offers a great curriculum
Tips for prospective students be sure to go on a visit, i visited several times before going and talk with the academic counselling staff when you do. also if your looking for work, apply for work-study as soon as you get there. p.s get involved!
In three sentences a very rewarding experience for a relatively low cost. a small yet beautiful campus with everything you need relatively close by. a school that does more for you outside of the classroom as well as in.

Categories Comments Campus Safety safety patrol is out every night. you have to slide your cal id to get into the dorms, the gym, and other places.
Clubs and Activities everything to snowboarding club to history club to student voters club. and if there isnt a singe club that interests you it so easy to start your own!
Great for these types of students parks and recreational majors, social work, chemistry, education majors. even if you are still unsure of what you wanna do, calu has career services that will help you find your voice here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus we are trying to get the student section in basketball and football games bigger. there is the vulcan in the quad area and you have to hit the hammer when you walk past it, for gook luck!
Bang for the buck if you go to class and take advantage of that calu has to offer, yes! but if you are just going to sit in the dorm, no college or school will give that to you. calu has so many free things and clubs to join. even just taking advantage of the super cool rock wall that you already paid for, or go to the sauna and relax!!
What to do for fun clubs/orgs. theater in the student center sports games rock climbing in the gym!!
Food and Dining 4.5 burger place, pizza and fries and chicken. wraps and salads and the buffet of the gold rush.
Tips for prospective students stay in the dorms your first couple of years, it is great being in the middle of campus. get involved! everyone wants you to succeed here, professors want to help!
In three sentences the residence halls are so great and perfect for first time kids away from home. the campus is so friendly and welcoming. there is a wide selection of clubs and organizations!

Categories Comments Greek Life All the fraternities and sororities are nice people. They understand that school work comes first. They will not fail you as long as you don't fail them.
What to do for fun Go to the gym. Play pool. They have a built in theater where they show movies before they are out on dvd
Food and Dining The meal plan is not the greatest. You can only eat once during each time period. The bottled drinks that you see in vending machines go immediately on dine dollars. Sometimes the food is horrible. It is a hit or miss situation
Dorm Life The rooms are very nice. They are fairly big equipped with a bathroom. A good amount of storage space.
Academic Rigor Some classes can be difficult, as long as you study and get the help when you need it, you'll be fine.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you go there for an education, do not go out and party because you will get caught. Make sure your school work is your first priority.
In three sentences California University of PA is a college with a good sports management program. The advisers are there for you and will make sure you get the help you need. A lot of the times, they will have a good amount to do outside of classes

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Very nice LGBT community Teachers People that already live in the area
Bang for the buck Really great school if you want to be a teacher.
What to do for fun There really isn't much unless you have a car. Make sure to check in the student union often though because they show great movies for free.
Food and Dining There were a lot of options for food when I went there but they wouldn't let you have certain drinks in some of the shops using your meal card. Not very vegan or lactose intolerant friendly!
Dorm Life I commuted but I had friends that lived in both the regular dorms and the nice apartments. They were all very nice. Some of the dorms had their own showers so you only had to share with your roommates not the whole floor.
Academic Rigor I was really bored in most of my classes. I probably should have tried to get into honors classes so I wouldn't be so bored.
Tips for prospective students I was told things that weren't true when I applied. It kind of messed up my scheduling and if they had just told me the truth I would have waited a year before starting. If you want to learn Arabic the professor they have is AMAZING!

Categories Comments Greek Life I went Greek in my undergrad and I can tell you that the Phi Sigma Sigma women at Cal U are amazing!
Great for these types of students The Global Online program is great for professionals who want to pursue a Masters degree through a distance learning program while still working full or part time. The professors are also working professionals so they understand that you have other priorities other than school and will work with you if extraordinary circumstances arise.
Bang for the buck I absolutely think I'm getting what I pay for and more.
What to do for fun I live off campus in Virginia so I'm not sure what is available on campus but I can tell you to get involved with whatever you can. It is great to be well rounded academically but employers also look at your involvement in clubs and volunteering because it helps you develop other skills that you can't get in the classroom.
Food and Dining I live off campus in Virginia so I don't know what the food and dining is like.
Dorm Life I live off campus so I don't know what dorm life is like.
Academic Rigor The programs are tough but you learn so much because you are challenging yourself. If you aren't pushed, you won't learn.
Tips for prospective students Check out the campus and talk to professors about the program you are interested in. If you are pursuing the Global Online program, get to know your advisor and email regularly with your professors so you can get the help you need when you need it.
In three sentences Cal U is a fantastic school. The Global Online program is rated one of the best in the country. You will definitely get more for your money at Cal U.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I've never felt like my life was in danger on CalU's campus. Recently we've had some safety issues, but they were always dealt with accordingly and I've always felt safe and secure.
Greek Life I can't say too much about greek life because I don't participate in it, but I do know that CalU offers a number of fraternities and sororities that my friends have joined and they all seem to enjoy them.
Clubs and Activities The clubs and activities on CalU's campus are amazing. They offer fun things to do that normally cost a lot of money either for free or for a small fee.
Great for these types of students CalU is great for laid-back students that are looking for that small time college experience. While the coursework does require work, the feel of the campus is laid-back and very small town. CalU is good for students who don't want the fast paced, hustle and bustle of a city school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Something that I've found out of the ordinary at CalU is that there are many, many places for students to congregate and just hang out in-between classes. Most students don't just run back to their rooms or residence halls after class, they hang out in their departments.
Bang for the buck CalU has raised it's prices over the years I've been there. Though in the end prices are rising everywhere. I think I get a decent educations for the money I'm spending.
What to do for fun Get involved in something. The clubs and organizations at CalU are phenomenal, I'm a member of the CalU Chemistry club and we are always doing fun things that give me a nice break from my academic studies. The student organization that plans trips often plans outings to places (often for a small fee) that are always fun. I went on a day trip to Cedar Point for $15.00 and went snow tubbing at Seven Springs for only $5.00.
Food and Dining Depending on where you go and when determines the quality of the food. The Gold Rush (the main cafeteria) sometimes serves good food, but it's not my favorite place to eat. I would recommend the food court because there are plenty of options and they do accept dining plans. My favorite place to eat is the Sycamore Bistro, but they do not accept dining plans so it can get a little expensive.
Dorm Life The residence halls (as we call them) are absolutely amazing! The dorm life (which we refer to as the suite life) is one of the reasons I came to CalU. Gone are the tiny dorm rooms of the past, they have been replaced with what can only be compared to a hotel suite. I never dreamed I'd be this comfortable at college, but I definitely am.
Academic Rigor I'd say that the course work at CalU isn't terribly difficult, but it can be challenging. The best course of action is to stay on top of your course work.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you get to know the layout of the campus, try to find the fastest path between all the buildings. Be sure to venture to parts of campus that you might not, there might be places on campus that are useful to you that you wouldn't even think of. Try out ALL of the places to eat around campus, the Bistro might be expensive, but it's delicious.
In three sentences California University of PA has many great fields to study and plenty of friendly faculty. My department in particular (the Chemistry and Physics Department) has been more than helpful with everything I've wanted to do. I will be graduating soon and I think that my time at CalU has been excellent.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is Campus security everywhere. The dorms are secure.
Greek Life I don't know anything about Calu's Greek Life. I am not involved.
Clubs and Activities There are SO many to choose from, and they are so welcoming.
Great for these types of students Great for students on a budget, or students who want a moderately sized school. The tuition is lower than many other schools around, and the size is perfect for me. It isn't so large that you could get lost in the crowd of faces, but not so small that there are only 5 people in every class.
Bang for the buck If you want the most bang for your buck, get into as many clubs as possible and experience all that you can. Also, if it available to you, apply to the Honors Program. It is amazing.
What to do for fun There are a whole long list of clubs and activities to join that relate to pretty much anything you could be in to, and if you don't see something you want, you can start a club. There is a movie theater on campus too. As for stuff around the outside of campus, there is not much, but if you drive about 15 minutes you can find something to do.
Food and Dining The Gold Rush cafeteria offers a good variety of pretty good food. I haven't tried everything yet, but I'm sure I will.
Dorm Life The dorms have been recently renovated. They have great security and offer a community of people to get to know. Living in a dorm gives you freedom that allows you to mature better.
Academic Rigor I am in the Honors Program, so there is extra rigor associated with that I assume, but I haven't actually started my classes yet.
Tips for prospective students For any student, no matter where you are going or how much money your family has, apply for as many scholarships as possible as early as possible. The more money you have coming in, the less stressful the transition will be. But most of all, go with the flow and listen to the advice of people who have been there before you. Also, living on campus even after the mandatory period is something I would recommend.
In three sentences The amount of things offered by CalU is impressive for the relatively low cost of the college. They have a plethora of things to do on Campus and their programs are great. Most of the Campus has been newly renovated, so it is a wonderful place to take the next step of one's journey.

In three sentences It seems like a pretty good school but just in a bad town. The classrooms look small so it seems that I'll be able to learn easily and not be crowded with a lot of people. All in all I think it will be a great place to get an education

Categories Comments Campus Safety It depends. There are too many cops on the actual campus, it's very annoying. There are none in the town, which is where the problems come from.
Greek Life It exists, but I don't pay much attention to it.
Clubs and Activities Singing - both regular choir and audition choir, Dance team (not good), cheerleading, (not good), theater but not musical theater. However, the musical dept. will put on shows, but it is separate from theater. Band, different kind, the jazz band is really good actually, very selective. Frats and sororities. Sports that are separate from clubs and activities. They have sports for fun, many kind. There are clubs for each major and a lot of different interests.
Great for these types of students People who commute.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They make new students stand around a statue and hold candles for quite some time.
Bang for the buck I don't know. I do love singing there. I'm frustrated with the school for messing up a lot of my stuff. They still haven't fixed the number of credits I have. A teacher failed me for being in the hospital and it's on my record. I got written up freshman year during orientation for stealing a green high lighter, which I did not do. I got locked out of my dorm. I had to deal with 4 room changes in one semester. I got robbed, and the police accused me of selling drugs. (Which I don't do) I was at subway for crying out loud. Expect shootings. The campus itself isn't bad, but the town is. They took away my financial aid because I had to medically withdrawal last semester. Yeah, they're nice. I could go on for days.
What to do for fun There is nothing in California, PA. The school does have sports and activities, but you won't find anything exciting in the town.
Food and Dining Over all, the food sucks. It's practically never open on weekends. The meal plan is way over priced. The only thing that is sometimes open on weekends is the cafeteria, which is gross. During the week on certain hours they will have other things open. It's hard to find healthy food there, and everything is served over proportioned.
Dorm Life The dorms are really nice. In some of them the security and rules are way over the top. If your too loud after like 10, you get written up. They randomly check your room. There's a person in charge of each hall. Some are a nal, some are cool. There are weird rules depending on the person.
Academic Rigor Honestly, it just depends on your major and the professors.
Tips for prospective students I would only go here if it's one of your only options. At least it is cheap. Some would tell you it's great; I've just had bad experiences.
In three sentences I really dislike this school. I was planning on transferring, but they won't give me my transcript. You can never get into any classes that you need during registration.

Food and Dining There is a wide variety of cuisine. Not all restaraunts have the same hours.
Academic Rigor My experience has been that most professors present assignments and projects that are challenging enough to promote true learning.
Tips for prospective students It is important to get involved on campus beyond the classroom requirements. Join a club. Attend events.
In three sentences Cal U, overall, is concerned about students. Professors tend to take time with students in support of academic success. The campus is beautiful and welcoming.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is usually always guarded and safe. You see the campus security around often and you'll see a lot of what they've done for the community in the Cal U newspaper. There is also little blue buttons all around campus that you press when you are in trouble and they usually show up pretty quickly.
Greek Life I do not recommend.
Bang for the buck You'll usually get most of your tuition money back if you go to all the events that are planned and just participate in everything that the campus offers. There is usually a lot of free stuff that's out and about so keep your eyes open and always check your e-mail.
What to do for fun There's a lot of fun stuff to do on campus. They always have shows or concerts or events to go to, and they have a movie theater that you can go to for free if you're a student. They actually show recent movies about a month after they come out in the movie theaters. At the beginning of the year they will have tons of free stuff outside, some of it you can actually customize.
Food and Dining There are many different options for dining and they make it all in front of you. One of them is like an all-you-can-eat buffet. The food is really good, but hey, if you don't like homemade food you can always go to the convenience stores that they have in the union or the many snack machines and drink machines. There is even a coffee machine.
Dorm Life I never lived in the dorms but there is a nice little apartment complex about a mile from campus. The buses run from campus to the Vulcan Village and there's a pool, a basketball court, a beach volleyball set-up, and a club house that has a wii and a pool table as well as a ping-pong table.
Academic Rigor The classes aren't completely easy but they aren't completely hard either. Most of the teachers are really nice and helpful. The classrooms even have mac computers with really huge screens.
Tips for prospective students Some tips would probably be that if you live off campus be a half hour early for the bus because they aren't always reliable, and never be late.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety is great. They are here to help us so if you do what your suppose to do then you are fine.
Greek Life Greek Life at Cal U is awesome. If you think it is for you go for it.
Clubs and Activities I cannot even explain how many clubs and activities Cal U has to offer. Anything you want to do I bet there is a club for it. Even if there isn't you can start one yourself.
What to do for fun Cal U is a pretty small campus but there is always something going on. No matter what your interests are they is something for you here at Cal U.
Food and Dining Cal U has a variety of places to grab a bite to eat at. Either on campus or off you can always find something to have. Th Rush is the on campus cafe and it provides everything you could possibly think of.
Dorm Life The resident halls on Cal U's campus are excellent. The rooms are big and in great shape. Compared to most schools Cal U would be at the top for Dorm Life.
Academic Rigor The Academics at Cal U differ. Everything that Cal U offers are at the best for the students.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students I suggest you plan a visit before you decide to come to Cal U. Also, visit calu.edu to check out the website. Overall, if you decide to attend Cal U you won't be disappointed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is safe, the town... not so much.
Greek Life Yep.
Clubs and Activities Everything.
Great for these types of students Education majors. Commuters.
Bang for the buck Good price, but there are a lot of negative aspects. Some people do just fine there though, I just had a lot of unlucky experiences. If you are going to be a teacher it'd be a good school, but again, it's hard to get into classes. They fill up quickly because they let everyone in and have no teachers or rooms.
What to do for fun Nothing. It's a very boring town. The campus will have events, but weekends suck. There isn't much to do.
Food and Dining Some of their food is okay, but it's very overpriced. The good stuff is only available from like 9-6 Monday through Friday so that sucks.
Dorm Life Dorms are really nice, but expensive. If you have a bad roommate it really sucks, but you'll have that every where. Depending on the building you are in, the hall monitor people can be rude and strict, but a lot are nice are normal.
Academic Rigor Good in some areas, awful in others. It all depends on the teacher. Some are insane, like legit.
Tips for prospective students It looks goo on the outside, but it's really hard to get into classes that you need. Also, the price is good, but I had to withdrawal and they lied to me about my financial aid and screwed me over big time. So, they will lie to you. And a lot of them have no idea what they are talking about. The president just got fired for stealing money.
In three sentences Screwed me over.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is very safe and the school and town police are very protective.
Greek Life Greek life is exciting for freshman to see and experience. Their are plenty of fraternities or sororities to choose from
Clubs and Activities Intramurals is really fun, if your not planning any school sports.
Great for these types of students Cal U is represented by all walks of life.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus while Cal U is a dry campus you can go to local bars if your old enough.
Bang for the buck Tuition is reasonable for a state school
What to do for fun Go to parties and different sports games such as Football and basketball as well as volleyball games
Food and Dining Food is good and you get different options and meal plans
Dorm Life The dorms are clean and the rooms are a good size. You can choose from single, double or multiple roommates.
Academic Rigor Classes are not big, which is a plus for learning and getting help which is good.
Tips for prospective students If you are trying to work while attending make sure you pick a work study program early or you will get the last resort jobs.
In three sentences Cal U is a close nit university in a small town outside of Pittsburgh. The students at Cal U are very helpful and the classes are not to big to get lost in. I rate Cal U as a number one school choice to go to without breaking your wallet to attend. The school staff is very knowledgeable and the dorms are really nice.

Categories Comments Campus Safety You are never far from a public safety officer at Cal, and professors know what to do to keep students safe in an emergency. Residence halls remain locked and under surveillance, and anyone who wants in has to have a card to swipe. During more dangerous times (perhaps there was a robbery in town, or maybe fewer officers came in to work that day), Residence Halls will have their front doors locked, not just the door to get to the rooms.
Greek Life While I do not associate with Greek Life, I know plenty of Brothers and Sisters. Greek Life is fun and fulfilling and provides an instant sense of community. However, in the Graphic Design Major, we are usually too busy to have time to actually pledge to a Greek Society. I think there are less than ten Graphic Design Majors that are also in a Fraternity/Sorority, but that is just because our program is so intensive and comprehensive. Greek Life is encouraged at CalU through organization fairs and Greek Week.
Clubs and Activities If you have an interest, there is probably a student organization to represent it. There are over 100 clubs affiliated with the University, and a handful of other, unofficial clubs. (Clubs that do not register with the University do not get funding from it--that is about the only difference.) If you are interested in finding a new organization to join, drop by one of the school's Organization Fairs, which occur once a semester.
Great for these types of students If you are a serious student looking for your money's worth and want to be more than a name and a number, then apply to CalU. It is a small campus, so you will get the personalized attention you need to succeed, and it has plenty of work-study opportunities. If you are looking for a small campus with big opportunities, then CalU is for you.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus CalU has a lot of strange traditions--from Greek Week to WCal Radio Lock-Ins--for students to participate in. And, assuming you have the time and money, you can always walk into town and grab a treat form Dairy Queen or snag a sub at Subway. Madres has amazing burritos, and Spuds and Campy's offer a wide variety of American food. You can also find house parties and dorm activities in the area, as well as live music and art shows.
Bang for the buck In any program, you will be prepared when you leave the school. If you know how to stretch your meals, then you will never go hungry. But with all the free perks, student activities, and other services and events, it is definitely worth every penny! (And I am paying full out-of-state tuition.)
What to do for fun CalU offers a lot of fun events! There is a free movie theatre that shows movies that are about to come out to DVD/Blu-Ray, and on Thursdays the Commuter Center hosts open mic nights for live music. There is a pool hall that always has a lot going on, student art galleries opening almost every two weeks (sometimes every week). The Theatre Department always has something going on if you know who to ask, and if that isn't your cup of tea, then hit the free gym.
Food and Dining Campus dining can be complicated, and may at some times seem like it is not worth the meal plan, but it is also very convenient. Just be wary of common hours on campus when everyone may be in a rush to eat at once, or after a sports team gets done practicing and immediately eats afterward. These times can be hectic and more trouble than they are worth, but the average student should never have too tight a schedule to not get meals during the day. Sometimes the food can be sketchy, but beggars cannot be choosers.
Dorm Life Both the Residence Halls and the university-owned apartments strive to maintain safety and convenience for students while maintaining a great sense of community. Get to know your neighbors and roommates and you should not have a problem. Thanks to the roommate surveys that the university uses to match students housed in the dorms, you will almost always have something in common with your roommate, even if you do not expect it. Although, sometimes it really is just the luck of the draw!
Academic Rigor As a student studying multiple disciplines, I have discovered that the campus' programs are all up to great standards. The Art and Design department has a great reputation in the area--Pittsburgh offices look specifically for CalU Graphic Design graduates, for instance. The department of theatre and dance also keeps shows up to professional standards where time and production are considered. All programs are hard, but not too hard to keep you from succeeding. All professors are ready and willing to help students who are serious about their studies.
Tips for prospective students Thinking about CalU? Schedule a tour! Use the homepage to find the head of any departments you might be looking at and see if anyone in your desired major can sit down and chat with you, one-on-one. Definitely do not be afraid to get to know anyone (students and faculty) within your major, because they really will become your family.
In three sentences CalU has a great community dedicated to ensure the timely success of their students. Faculty and Staff do all that they can to ensure that the programs are up-to-par and that the environment is safe and coherent to learning. And, of course, there is plenty to do around campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been recent issues near campus; many are small. Mostly a result of drinking and/or non-students ruining the night.
Greek Life Not present on campus. Not really appreciated unless you join.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs, but they don't have the presence that they normally do on other campuses.
Great for these types of students Local and international. Also great for students who need extra help -- there's so many tutoring opportunities; all free to students.
Bang for the buck The dorms are beautiful; they're so worth the money.
What to do for fun Bars, movie theatre on campus, volunteer work, exercise, clubs.
Food and Dining I don't feel the food is to the quality of how much the meal plans cost the students.
Tips for prospective students Stay on the weekends! Many people go home and just don't get the college experience you should get when you pay all that money to live here!
In three sentences This university is small, green, and friendly. There are many local students. It is also a great value university.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are always there. They constantly drive and walk around to make sure nothing is going on. They check in with the dorms to make sure there are no problems and everything is running smoothly. They are only a phone call away and they don't tend to be to far to reach someone in the case of an emergency.
Greek Life There are a variety of fraternity and sororities on and off campus. They seem like nice people.
Clubs and Activities There are lots of clubs and activities here at Cal U. If you have enough people you can start your own club.
What to do for fun You pretty much make your own fun. You have a lot of freedom. You can go into town and have lunch and do a little shopping. You can go hang around with friends pretty much anywhere.
Food and Dining The food here is really good. You have a variety of different options. Certain places are opened late so you can get food still. The cafeteria is nice and spacious and there's all different types of foods.
Dorm Life The dorm life is great. You only share a bathroom with your roommate, you have plenty of space, you can change your room around anytime you want. Everyone is pretty much friendly. There is a computer lab, so there is no reason you can't do any work you have to do. You and your wing mates come up with the quiet hours, there's never really a dull moment, and you will always be surprised at what some people do.
Academic Rigor You are expected to do your best. There should be no reason for you to fail any courses, because the teachers are there to help you and so are other people and study groups.
Tips for prospective students My personal advice would be to stay on top of things, because your due dates come up quick. Make sure you do all your reading because its important and you don't want to wait until the last minute to do it. Don't stress yourself out because then you will lose focus on what you are trying to do. Go to class, because if you miss a lot of class it's really hard to catch up and you will fall really behind. Enjoy your college experience, make the best of being at college. During your free time get out and do some things.
In three sentences California University of Pennsylvania is a wonderful college. You have the perfect environment to study and get your work done. The teachers here help you if you are having trouble they will set up a meeting with you, if not you can go to a place where they can help you with whatever you are having trouble with.

Categories Comments Greek Life We have multiple social fraternities and sororities on campus. We also have academic and honorary fraternities and sororities.
Clubs and Activities There are so many different clubs and activities you can become involved in. There is literally something for everyone.
Great for these types of students It is a small campus in a more rural setting, so if you are looking for that type of college, this is great!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Our mascot is Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, and there is a big statue in the middle of the quad. Freshman orientation is always concluded at a candlelight ceremony held around the Vulcan statue. CAL WHO? CAL U!!!
What to do for fun There are multiple sporting events every week and entertainment opportunities. You can get involved with clubs depending on your interests.
Food and Dining There are several places to eat on campus that you can use your meal plan and dine dollars for. These include the cafeteria, a wrap and salad place, a grill, a pizza place, a convenience-type store, and a new southern-style food truck. Off campus, there are multiple places to eat, including Subway, Quiz-no's, Spuds, and Madre's Mexican.
Dorm Life The residence halls are new and absolutely beautiful. The rooms are huge and there are no community bathrooms. There are several different types you can get. All residence halls are centrally located so you don't have to walk too far to get to classes.
Academic Rigor As a Communication Disorders major, I do a lot of work in and out of the classroom. However, it is not too much that I don't have a social life and I can still be involved in clubs and activities.
Tips for prospective students Become involved with something as soon as possible and sign up for a peer mentor. This will help you meet people on campus.
In three sentences This is a beautiful, small campus with a very tight-knit community. They have excellent academic programs and many professional partners. There are a lot of activities to do throughout the semester.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have seen no problems yet with safety. They keep you well informed and have text message alerts.
Clubs and Activities We have countless amounts of clubs for every major and every type of group. We even have a quidditch team and Ballroom dancing. All in all a lot to chose from and a fun time no matter what.
Great for these types of students It's nice for people who want a small school but still have city life relatively close by(30-45 minutes away)
Bang for the buck A lot of what you pay for comes back to you. For instance you have to pay a fee to sabug as part of your bill, but then the events are free on campus. Classes depend on who you get and how much work you actually put into it.
What to do for fun Sab/Sabug, our activities board, does free things like paintball, making tye-dye, street signs, whiteboards, mugs, and other things as well as bring in musicians and comedians. This past year we had two people from Reno 911. However whenever they aren't holding anything, it can get a bit boring, unless you find something to entertain yourselves with.
Food and Dining Food is usually decent, just can become a bit repetitive. Modeco is good for breakfast and Flatz, a quesadilla place, is a good spot for late night munchies.
Dorm Life Great community sensed dorms. There's a kitchen on the first floor which is nice, especially because I like to cook. Rooms have a decent amount of space and you usually only have to share the bathroom with your roommate depending on what room style you chose.
Academic Rigor Classes can be challenging at times, but teachers are willing to help as long as you ask.
Tips for prospective students Keep up with your work and join clubs, both will make your experience that much better.
In three sentences Calu has fantastic dorms, aka you don't have communal bathrooms, and is a beautiful campus. At times it can get a bit boring, but they hold activities a lot of the time. The food can become a bit repetitive, but there are some great places just off campus.

Categories Comments Greek Life CalU hosts an active greek community.
Clubs and Activities There are a number of clubs on campus that you can become a part of. During freshman orientation you receive a booklet of all the organizations on campus.
Bang for the buck At CalU, you get what you pay for.
What to do for fun CalU has a student run board called SAI (Student Activities Inc.) who work to bring entertainment onto campus. This past year they have brought in comedians, paintball, The Harlem Globetrotters, musicians, a portable ice rink, and much more. The town does not have much to offer for entertainment but the SAI Board makes up for it with all of the activities they bring onto campus.
Food and Dining The dining can be lackluster at times. The Gold Rush is your main dining area and consists of buffet style serving, and while they provide a wide range of food to eat the quality can be something that remains desired. There are also food shops in the student center though that will accept meal plans that are great for a quick meal between classes.
Dorm Life The Residence Halls on campus are some of the best i've seen on campus tours. The rooms are spacious, well kept, and equipped with a personal bathroom, cable, WiFi, ethernet connections, and heating/air conditioning.
Academic Rigor Honestly, this will all depend on the classes and teachers required for your major. If you want to know how harsh a class or teacher may be, I recommend using http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ This website includes an overall statistic on that professor, as well as providing reviews from students.
In three sentences California is a school that's easier on the wallet than most institutions. CalU offers a plethora of degrees for both Undergrad and graduate students who want to pursue their degree. Overall, Cal is a tight knit community of students and a great place for learning.
