    Great for these types of students

    Carthage College is a great school for those who want to come to class everyday and learn to the best of their abilities. The professors know who you are and when you are attending class. It is great for students who wish to be known by their professors and would like to ask for extra help at certain times.

    Carthage College is a great school if you want to come to class. With larger schools, you can not show up for class and the professor will probably not notice, however, at Carthage, the professors know who you are and will know if you are missing. Carthage is also great if you want personal attention and may need or want extra help and advice after class hours.
    Bang for the buck

    Carthage is quite expensive, but that is to be expected for a private school. I do think that it is worth the money however. Each student is able to receive one on one attention if needed from their professors. It is a great learning environment, and learning is most definitely taking place on this campus.
    Am enjoying being here

    I am greatly enjoying my time at Carthage College. I spend much of my time here because I am a full time student and I also work part time on campus during the school year and full time during the summer. Since it is such a small school, it is easy to get to know everyone on campus. Everyone is very cheerful and friendly which makes for a great learning environment.

    I am learning very much at Carthage College. This is a small school with very few students. I am very glad that I chose to come to this school because of the small amount of students. I have learned so much mainly because the teachers are able to meet with each student and greatly help them outside of class. My professors know me by name and they know my learning ability.     Carthage College is a great school for those students who want a smaller-school setting and are looking for a more family oriented school. You meet at least 1 new person/friend each day and by the end of the year you probably will come to know half the school! It is a great school if you're looking for more personal attention because the Professors are willing to set-up appointments to meet with students and discuss whatever it is that you are having trouble with in Class.

    If you are a prospective student looking at going to Carthage College, you have definitely made the right and probably best choice! Carthage is located just north of Chicago, IL and situated in the beautiful city of Kenosha, WI. If you are looking for a small-type college setting. Carthage College is THE place for you! You have nowhere to go wrong here because you have so many people who are on-hand to help you with all of your troubles. The location of Carthage College is also a plus because it is literally just steps away from Lake Michigan, where you can look out at the waters, boats, wind surfers, etc. If you're looking for fun on the weekend, there is the Metra Train to Chicago and Carthage is only 32 miles from Milwaukee and there are outlet malls galore and many other shopping opportunities. I strongly encourage and cannot emphasis enough how important it is to at least try to apply to Carthage College. You do not really know until you try/apply. I am glad that I applied and got in and I could not say that I'd be as happy at any other place/school. Carthage is truely a special, unique and great place to be!

    I must say that as much as we all want to cringe when we hear how much Tuition costs.....I believe that it is fully worth every single sent because of everything that I have just specified from my own experiences and I am sure that other Carthage Students would also agree with me. There are also many opportunities to earn that extra cash, to help with tuition. If you are also looking for work, Carthage has a Work Study Program, in which your classes would be slightly different from others, if you chose to work during school hours. Carthage has many on campus jobs, which many students participate in. I am currently in the Carthage Pep Band, which pays good money and is actually the highest paying student job on campus! If you're a musician, I'd highly recommend trying out, it's a lot of fun too!

    I am so glad and thankful that I chose to come to Carthage College for School. I am pretty sure that I have made one of the best choices in my entire life to come here. I love the environment, which entails many things: students, classes, church, scenery, clubs/organizations and a countless number of other things as well. The size of the school really helps too, because for me it feels like more of a Family School, everyone is very friendly and we're all in this together! If you're feeling downed at all or need help/guidance, there are always great friends, adults, teachers and other, right around the corner who are always there and ready/willing to help you with whatever your needs are! I am also glad to be here at Carthage because of the many and great opportunities there are to be in so many different clubs and organizations, whether it's service, choir, band or greek-life. I have many great friends in the Greek System on Campus, in both Fraternities and Sororities.
    Am learning a lot

    Carthage College is probably one of the best small-private liberal arts schools in the Nation. Carthage prides itself on hiring the best teaching staff possible in order to help supplement students learning experiences. With small classes of at least 20 to *30 *(maximum), you get more of a personal attention with your classes and professors.

    Carthage is a division III college filled with athletes. Carthage athletics are usually at the top of the conference, explaining why about fifty percent of the students are athletes. However, Carthage College is perfect for students desiring small class sizes in a semi-rural setting. In addition, there are many opportunities for students to travel abroad during J-term.
    Tips for prospective students

    Unlike state colleges, at Carthage the professors know when you are not in class. In some classes, you attendance and class participation is a vital key in your final grade. Professors are more willing to help those struggling who go to class than those who do not put in the effort to show up. However, going to class alone does not insure a passing grade. You must put in effort to study for exams, complete homework/labs, and write papers—on time. Time management is essential to finding success at any college or university. The ability to manage homework, clubs, organizations, athletics, jobs, and a social life can be a challenge to many.

    Although Carthage College has a lot to offer students, it is quite expensive. There are jobs that are available to students in addition to work study such as: life guarding, food court, and office jobs. Scholarships are available from time to time, which students should take advantage of. Being involved in high school as well as maintaining a good GPA can help bring down the cost. It is important to always have your eyes open for scholarship opportunities.

    Carthage College is located right on Lake Michigan, waking up to the waves crashing onto the rocks isn't bad for college life. However, I do suggest bringing lots of warm clothes, as winters can be a bit arctic at times. There are many campus organizations one can join. From chemistry club to juggling club, there is something for everyone. Getting involved helps create relationships, which can help freshmen feel more at home. The Carthage Activities Board has events planned for each weekend, meaning there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to have a good time. Also, there is an Amtrak that leaves Kenosha and goes to Chicago that only costs five dollars for a weekend pass.
    Am learning a lot

    Carthage College is a great place to further one's education. The small class size allows each student to get to know each professor on a name to name basis. I have found that the professors are more than willing to help students; the student must express this need for help and be willing to come in outside of class. There are tutoring sessions offered for classes, which are at no extra cost to students.

    Those seeking a small school atmosphere. Anyone interested in occupational/physical therapy. Carthage offers degrees for basically everything one could imagine.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be ready to work hard, because the classes are not for students who are going to slack off. Remember to have a good time, and take advantage of the activities that are set up for students. Make sure to balance fun time and studying time. Use the library and the writing center, they are very useful when writing a paper for any class.

    The tuition is high at 38,000 dollars. The school does offer merit scholarships. Scholarships are needed if one wants to go the this school. Having said that, the sports facilities are very nice, featuring an Olympic sized swimming pool, a rock climbing wall, a large basketball court with volleyball, an indoor and outdoor track, two weight rooms, and an outdoor soccer/football field. The dorm rooms are a little small, but the environment on each floor makes up for that.

    The atmosphere is very nice. The location of the school is on scenic lake Michigan. All of the students get along very well. The school offers plenty of opportunities for students to get together to get to know each other.
    Am learning a lot

    The classes at Carthage are all taught by professors who truly care about their student's learning. The Hedberg Library offers a large selection of books on basically any topic that one could imagine. The Heritage classes allows for a good amount of learning and discussion on several topics.

    People who like smaller class sizes and knowing a majority of the people at your school, people who like to be heavily involved with their school, and people who like being near larger cities but not directly in them.
    Tips for prospective students

    Schedule an overnight visit with the school if you are unsure about Carthage, visit the campus during all seasons (especially the winter, as it gets nasty sometimes being right on the lake), and talk to some professors in your desired learning area.

    It is a bit more pricy than some colleges, but for being a private liberal arts school, I feel that it is decently priced. You are paying for an amazing education and great campus, and it is very much worth the price.

    I absolutely love Carthage. The campus itself is beautiful, being right on Lake Michigan. The dorms are great, they aren't too dirty or disgusting as other residence halls I have seen on other campuses. I have met amazing people here who are just like I am and are interested in the same things as me.
    Am learning a lot

    Every professor I have had so far has been fantastic. They are willing to work with every student who needs help, they take time in class to answer questions, and they teach the material in an efficient and easy to understand method.

    The security team has a very slow response time and is a joke on campus between the students.

    Carthage has a club for almost anything and new clubs are created every year. They currently have over 100.

    The kissing rock is from one of the original Carthage campuses and is spray painted very often by clubs and greek groups... and it's allowed!! It's an age old tradition that is embraced. It is all respectful spray painting, not graffiti

    VERY expensive school and it's hard to see where the tuition money goes because of the horrible, old facilities, and food choices. Definitely is not worth the whole tuition BUT the school is very generous with scholarships and grants but one generally has to jump through a lot of hoops to maintain low tuition payments and that gets very frusterating.
    What to do for fun

    There is not a lot to do on campus but Chicago is a close train ride and so is Milwaukee. There are decent restaurants close to campus.
    Food and Dining

    The options in the new student union have received good reviews but generally depend on the individuals taste. The cafe is being redone but the food is generally mediocre but not entirely terrible.
    Dorm Life

    The older dormitories are NOT a nice place to live. The heat generally runs year long so multiple fans are needed to feel comfortable in the room. The rooms are also very small. On the other hand, the new dormitories(The Oaks) are very nice. Each person gets their own room in a double suite with air conditioning and the bathroom is only shared by two people and is in the suite. The only bad thing about them is that they are far from the academic buildings and have an extra fee.
    Academic Rigor

    High school level academics, not a lot of work is required for most classes. Homework is generally tedious rather than challenging
    Tips for prospective students

    Go beyond the standard tour and explore the older buildings. The tour guides only show the new buildings and can give prospective students false expectations of the facilities

    It's an either you like it or you don't kind of school. Since it's a small campus, it's very full of cliques just like high school. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk from one side of the campus to the other on the one main road, that's either appealing or annoying.

    The psychology and social work program comes highly recommended and rewarded. Plus I get to become more in touch with my religion again.

    I feel like with access to the sports center and such there is no room for boredom. There is fine dining too.

    I hear that the teachers and professors are very helpful. They are willing to meet with you whenever needed. I also know I am very studious and can accomplish my goals.

    Carthage College is great for students that come from a small high school and want to stay in the same general environment. Carthage is also great for students that want to get involved with activities and classes and get a more personalized learning experience.

    The material covered in college classes at any college is more difficult than high school classes. Students should be prepared to put forth extra effort, but they can expect to see that hard work be rewarded by higher grades in the end.

    While the tuition is steep, the quality of the education makes up for it. There are also different activities offered each week that are free of charge such as recently released movies, comedians, and other forms of entertainment.

    I enjoy being at Carthage College because there is always something to do and the people here are great. The other students, professors, and staff are all nice and welcoming.

    Carthage College is a great school for a personalized learning experience. The class sizes are small and the professors try to get to know the students. I feel that the courses are not too challenging but are thought-provoking.

    This college is great for any one interested in studying a lot of different materials, this is a liberal arts school so they make you take different classes.
    Tips for prospective students

    One big tip is bring a car if you can, there are regular public buses on campus, but most of the jobs are off campus and buses won't take you to them.

    This school has a lot of activities, but if you here for the weekend and don't have a car there is not a whole lot happening.

    Make friends with your professors. Check out a dorm bathroom when you're on our campus or any campus for a visit - the lack of a changing stall in the showers threw me off guard my first week.

    Carthage is expensive, but the small classes, liberal arts style, and excellent professors make it worth the money.

    For a small college, Carthage has an enormous variety of extracurricular activities. The difficulty is not in finding an organization I like, but in limiting the number of organizations I'm involved in so that I don't drive myself crazy. The location is great - on Lake Michigan, an hour drive each to Chicago and Milwaukee.
    Am learning a lot

    I'm an academic geek, so the Western Heritage program was a perfect fit. It consists of two required classes that cover significant works of literature and philosophy (Odyssey, parts of the Bible, Dante's Inferno, etc). Small class size also helps with the learning process. I haven't yet encountered a professor who wasn't eager to answer student questions, inside or outside of class.

    If you like that close-knit atmosphere, this school is definitely for you. Also, a vast majority of the students are athletes, so athletes are definitely welcomed. If you want to be near a city, but not actually live in the city, you would also adore this school.
    Tips for prospective students

    -This is Wisconsin; having warm clothes is expected. -Small class sizes means that the professors know who you are. Go to class. Plus, you will more than likely see them out and about on campus, which can lead to a guilty conscience or just an awkward encounter. -If you don't have a car, make friends with someone who does have one. The bus system in Kenosha doesn't go absolutely anywhere you could possibly want whenever you want, so knowing someone well enough that you can ask for a ride is really helpful.

    This school is expensive, but it is a private school on the lakefront, you are paying for fantastic quality here, both with the campus and the education itself. To help with the steep costs, Carthage makes scholarships readily available, along with work-study.
    Am enjoying being here

    The scenery is gorgeous; I had a fantastic lake view from my dorm in my freshman year. There is also a lot to do on campus; nearly every weekend there is some type of event happening, whether it be a movie, a play, a comedian, a concert, etc. If there isn't something going on, you can always catch the Metra to Chicago or just get together with friends. Otherwise, getting involved in some of the many organizations on campus can help fill in that extra down time as well.
    Am learning a lot

    The professors here are incredibly helpful and really want to see you do well, which is why they try to make themselves available for questions or just for a chat. Since there are fewer students in the classes themselves, your questions can be heard, and you will probably learn more than if you were stuck in a giant lecture hall. In addition to the sizes, there is the substance of the learning, which is phenomenal. I have learned quite a bit in my classes, and, because it is a liberal arts school, I have had the opportunity to try out other types of classes as well.

    Campus Safety

    There is no need to feel afraid on campus. We have 24 hour security all along campus. You can take a late night stroll and see the protection provided around you. Fighting is dealt with swiftly and efficiently. The atmosphere is not hostile or dangerous.

    Carthage is an expensive college. Knowing this though, this school has some great amenities. We have a huge theater which is free and hosts brand new and age appropriate movies. It has a sleek and beautiful state-of-the-art weight and exercise rooms. All games and sporting events are free to attend. It is located right near a train which takes you to the bustling fun city of Chicago. It has the lovely view of Lake Michigan as you walk to class, from your dorm, or in class and an on campus beach. The food here is fresh, tasty, and within the given meal plan budget.
    Food and Dining

    The food here is amazing. We have healthy choices and a delicious variety of foods. There are a few restaurants conveniently located throughout the campus so you can grab a bite to eat without being late for class. Also the variety is abundant so you can mix and match with food cravings.
    Dorm Life

    The dorm life here is split between two co-ed and two same sex buildings. The rooms range in size but there is room in each one to move furniture and get creative. Be specific on who you want to live with though because personalities clash harshly. There is a curfew between the buildings but is at a much later on weekends. The restrooms are shared, but they are cleaned frequently throughout the day so a sense of cleanliness is seen and felt.
    Academic Rigor

    The academic level here is no joke. Teachers hold the students to a higher standard. Students have to be able to pay close attention during class time because there is a lot of information to absorb. At the same time be able to form original and a fresh outlook on topics you are asked to discuss and present.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be flexible and able to time manage. Between classes, working on campus, and enjoying the party scene life can get real hectic here. You will be encouraged to have a great time, but academics is top priority in every aspect on campus. Coaches, frat/sorority leaders, and employers all keep a close eye on your grades. Also time management is the key to success. Sleeping late, forgetting to jot down due dates, and lacking off will result in swift penalties and makes it harder for you to catch up. At the same time come to this school prepared to meet new people and a positive attitude. It is easy to make friends and so many things to do on campus. You will never have a bored moment.

    Carthage is about meeting new people and feeding off others ideas and outlooks on life. In most traditional colleges an intellectual development is highly stressed, but here you are encouraged to grow spiritually , socially, and emotionally into a vibrant contributor to society. Last if all students are heavily guided with classes but taught to enjoy the relaxed setting the college creates.

    Campus Safety

    I always feel safe on campus. It is a closed campus and most of the students want to learn and have fun. There is security right on campus that is always on call and there are always people around so you never have to feel alone when walking down campus drive.
    Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    We have the Kissing Rock which is a rock on campus that the different organizations will spray paint on a daily basis. It is a great tradition as well as a legend which says that any couple who kiss at this rock will get married.
    What to do for fun

    There are volleyball courts, full gym and pool that are open most of the time, and a new outdoors basketball court is being made this summer. We are right on the lake and have grills along the beach.
    Food and Dining

    There are many different choices at Carthage in terms of eating. There is a cafeteria which is being remodeled to bring in more options, a Baja Fresh, Wow Wingery, and an Einsteins bagels. Along with those there is a Starbucks, Seattle's Best and a corner store which is like a convenient store.
    Dorm Life

    I am pleased with the dorm life. People are interested in meeting other people and most of the time you will find doors are open. Some of the dorms are quite far from the classes but some find it worth it considering they are apartment style rooms with private bathrooms.
    Academic Rigor

    The professors are very interested in your doing well in college. However, you have to work for your grades. I know that my professors want me to do well and give me the work load that will get me where I want to be.
    Tips for prospective students

    You do not need to know what you are going to major in before you go to this school. Many people end up switching majors and you have a lot of general education classes to take. Take your time in making up your mind.

    I like the liberal arts aspect of Carthage College. I have been able to try many different types of classes that help me to know what I am interested in studying. They are very good at leading students in the right direction.

    Campus Safety

    Carthage is a safe campus because it's tucked away in the middle of no where. The way it's set up makes you feel like you're in your own little town. I've never felt unsafe at Carthage.
    Greek Life

    There are a lot of opportunities for Greek life on campus. There are national fraternities and sororities, Carthage-only fraternities/sororities, and opportunities to join academic fraternities.
    Clubs and Activities

    There is a club for pretty much everything you can think of, and if there isn't a club for it, student government is always great in encouraging students to get up and start their own clubs.
    Bang for the buck

    Carthage is expensive, but essentially worth it. The education and residential experience you get are enough of a pay off.
    What to do for fun

    There are events thrown by groups and clubs on campus almost on a daily basis. You can go see a movie every Wednesday and Saturday night. There are also concerts, comedians, and athletic games available to you. Kenosha is a great town for college kids. There is always something to do as long as you motivate yourself to find something to do.
    Food and Dining

    Since the building of the Campbell Student Union, food options have really grown on campus. There is the option of eating at one of the restaurants provided in the union, the street corner in the union (which is like a gas station store), Einstein's, and the cafeteria. Each option is different, so you don't really have to get sick of one of the choices.
    Dorm Life

    Carthage gives you at least three different choices in dorm life. You can choose to live in a traditional dorm, the Oaks, or off campus at the Best Western. Each of the residential choices are different from the other one. Traditional dorm life is generally a wing you live on with your gender and an RA. You share a bathroom with the wing, and while it can be a little loud and rowdy, it is also a great way to get accustomed to living alone and away from home. You get to know the people on your wing and your floor very well, and it almost becomes a tight knit family. Most of the traditional resident halls have a floor with a wing for girls, a wing for boys, a whole floor for girls, and a whole floor for boys. The Oaks is a lot like living in an apartment. You have your own room, a common area, a roommate with his/her own room, and the two of you share a bathroom. You are also given a lounge for the entire floor equip with a TV and a refrigerator. It is a great area if you want to have more of a private residential life on campus. The Best Western offers you an even quieter, private life on campus, or rather off campus. You get your own hotel room with a roommate, and a lot of the rules that apply to the traditional dorms and the Oaks don't apply to students in the Best Western.
    Academic Rigor

    One of the reasons I went to Carthage is because of the variance of majors the college has to offer. I'm an art major, but I didn't want to go to an art school where I would be limited to just studying art. Carthage gives you a well rounded education while also allowing you to study the field you want to major in as extensively as you choose. Also class sizes almost never exceed 30 students. It's a nice way to get to know your professor on a personal level.
    Tips for prospective students

    The weather is something you need to be aware of at Carthage. It gets cold and windy very easily due to the location by the lake. If you want to go to school in a small community, Carthage College is perfect for you.

    At Carthage College, if you want to be noticed and a leader, it is very easy to become one. There are so many opportunities that are given to you to grow and succeed on your own. It is a great environment and a very beautiful campus.

    From what I have seen and heard, Carthage is so amazing. I will absolutely love sitting in the library by the windows looking out at the lake :)

    I love the school and campus and have met so many amazing different people. It is definitely an amazing school, with all of its options and closeness.

    Attending each class is a must, and once you start missing it is hard to get back in the swing of regularly attending. It's very beneficial to go and learn all you can because I have had some amazing professors who have expierence and other jobs in the field they're teaching.

    Carthage is great for any student, especially those looking for a beautiful location, small campus of 2,500 students, liberal arts education, religious life opportunities, unique J-Term trips around the world (such as Africa, Nicaragua, or Israel), or anyone thinking about having more than one major.

    Apply for the Lincoln Scholarships and participate in those activities. You never know when you might come up with a top scholarship!
    Bang for the buck

    Although the price is high, it sure does pay off in the long run. You pay for the quality of education you receive, and since the price is on the upside, so is the quality of education. Also, think about the location: on the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. Lakefront property is pretty expensive but its definitely worth it! Carthage also provides numerous scholarship opportunities to help you along financially.

    I have never once not liked being at Carthage, except maybe when my Missouri body was frozen from the Wisconsin winter! The campus is beautiful and with the newly built student union, the students will have an even better time! The Carthage Activities Board hosts several events weekly, including new movies that are just being released. Sand volleyball courts along the lake and an enormous athletic center allow for fun interaction among students. There is always something to do!
    Am learning a lot

    Professors are excellent. They consistently meet one on one with you and always want you to succeed. Many of them stay at school late in the day so that you have a chance to meet with them. The classes are also small, allowing for more personal reactions among peers and the professor. While at Carthage, you learn more than what you think you will and you experience many new topics you had never even thought about because of the wide range of classes and J-Term trips available. As for the library, Hedberg Library is one of the best. You can find almost everything you need and if they don't have it, you can request interlibrary loan materials, which never fails.

    I would imagine it would be great for anyone who likes a close-knit feel, but loves the fact that the big cities are right around the corner. I love that about this place. The location is perfect. I also imagine you should be a pretty studious student. It's an expensive investment and you probably shouldn't slack off. :)

    Check out the campus, and DO NOT BE AFRAID to contact anyone. They just love answering questions, and will e-mail you personally on a regular basis if you need help. :) They did for me!

    Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's worth every penny. Someone else made a good point too: They have lots of free events for the students and many events are greatly reduced in cost. They want you to have fun here and make lots of friends too! Also, the staff on this campus are top rate. You won't find better teachers and counselors than the ones here. What I learned this year was worth the price.
    Will enjoy being here

    Not only is it beautiful, but the people are wonderful. I have not met a single grumpy or unfriendly person in all of my times at the college or at college events, and I've been there a lot! I'm betting that I will just fall in love with the campus and enjoy every minute of it! (Even more so, because I already adore the campus)
    Academic Rigor

    After my first year here at Carthage, I can guarantee you will learn a lot. However, you've got to make the right choices too! I learned more this first year than I have ever learned in a year, and it was not overly stressful. The staff are so friendly, caring, and patient that you are bound to succeed if you just do your work and reach out when you need help. There is so much opportunity here!

    Go to class, it is very easy to fall behind because a lot of course work is covered . Keep up with your homework, studying, papers, and projects. Do not procrastinate it does affect your grades. Manage your priorities. Get involved, its a lot of fun and very helpful in meeting new people and making friends.

    There are many opportunities at Carthage. Not only in the clubs, extracurriculars, and greek like but there are movie nights, comedians, and fun events planned on the weekend courtesy of C.A.B. Plus tons of famous people have came to Carthage and performed. In addition the tickets are only 10 bucks for students. SUCH A DEAL!

    The professors are well educated in everything they teach. They lecture well and incorporate class discussion, powerpoints, and group activities to enhance students learning. I have learned a lot.

    Carthage is great for education, science, and art students, but I am planning on working in historic preservation, and I still can find classes that I can use to work toward that career goal, though the history department is not the key department.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are a prospective student, remember to file FAFSA and to apply for all the aid and scholarships you can for as long as you can. It may be a hassle, but the money is worth it. Also, tell the college all they ask for, and I would also suggest taking tours and meeting with staff or students or your high school advisor if you have one.
    Bang for the buck

    It is expensive, but if you get some sort of scholarship, its a little easier, and there are tons of on-campus or off-campus jobs. In that way, it is possible to attend and also have time to make money. They give us a good experience that is proportional to what we pay for.
    Am enjoying being here

    I love the small size of the campus. Its nice because I just need to walk down to our new Union and I will very likely see someone I know either from class or just a friend. The setting of the campus is great, and is relaxing, despite the extreme cold of the winter. I love the students, and ALL of the buildings are well kept and nice, because they spend money on that and so we get buildings that are not falling apart and that look nice.

    I am really learning about the things I wanted to. The professors want to help you achieve your goals and they are not just there to get paid. They enjoy teaching and give students quality classes, never taught by TA's.

    I find it a bit overpriced but it is a private institution so I can understand. However, I wish they would stop raising the tuition or if they do they should also evaluate the current awarded scholarships and increase their values as well.

    I enjoy that it is a small college. I also particularly enjoy the atmosphere of the lake in the summer and fall. Its a beautiful campus and I enjoy being outdoors. It is also quite peaceful. Not only that but for the most part the professors are friendly and enjoyable as well as the students.

    Carthage may be a little expensive but it is totally worth it. They have really nice facilities that are always available and most of the time free to all students.

    Kenosha is a great town and has a lot to offer. Also, the campus being right on Lake Michigan allows students in the early fall and spring to go hang out on the beach and even swim!

    The cafeteria food gets a little repetitive sometimes but there are so many other food options on campus compared to other schools. So you shouldn't have any problem finding things to eat.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms aren't the greatest, but what dorm is? The normal dorms are a little dated but the new apartment style dorms are very nice. Even though the normal dorms may not be the greatest the people you are surrounded by definitely make it worthwhile.

    The professors here know you fairly well and know what you can do. This allows each one of your professors to push you because they know what to expect from you.

    Carthage activity board (CAB) and Resident Life Council (RLC) do a very good job having events all the time. There are movies shown at the movie theater on wednesday and sunday nights along with different activities and performers throughout the week. Also carthage is very good athletically and there is always a sporting event to watch.
    Food and Dining

    This past year the cafeteria was nothing too special. There was also only limited options on campus outside of the cafeteria. I am very excited to go back next year after they have completely redone the cafeteria and the food services.
    Dorm Life

    The Oaks are awesome. As an underclassmen however i recommend traditional resident halls where you will meet a lot of people. There are organizations (like Resident Life Council) that plan fun things for the different buildings or campus.
    Academic Rigor

    Most of the professors are really great and expect a lot but are also there to help you with anything that you need. Unlike a bigger school you must show up for class!

    Take a tour! I fell in love with the campus after visiting and seeing the lake. There are also opportunities to try the food, meet coaches, go to class or spend the night. Also Carthage gives many of their own scholarships so i recommend applying for those.

    Access to the dorms is limited by requiring students to scan their IDs. This makes me feel very safe. Also, security makes regular patrols rather often, both on Campus Drive and in the various parking lots. They have a good response time.
    Clubs and Activities

    While there is a plethora of activities, the thing I like best about Carthage is the ease of starting a new club if one sees a need. In my freshman year, two of my friends started two new clubs, and have quite a good showing even now. One of them was even offered a position if she wished to come back after graduation for her work in her club.

    As a college for the Arts, Carthage is suited more for the free thinkers, although any type of student can have a blast there. Their music and art programs are amazing - coming from a biology student - and all of the professors are extremely approachable.

    The Kissing Rock is pretty well known on campus, and various groups across the college have made tradition of painting it with their emblems. The Rock has been known to change color three times a day, to the frustration of many.

    The TARC offers a variety of recreational activities, for the more athletically minded, while the Carthage Activities Board always has something going on to bring students together.
    Food and Dining

    There is something on campus for everyone. The food at the Student Union can be a little pricey at times, but when is this not the case? Food found at the cafeteria is very good and varied, and cheap, and eating in the caf promises to be an experience after the coming renovations.

    The resident assistants are immensely approachable, and work with you to try to solve any problems you might come across. The furniture is good quality, and there are a variety of dorm environments to choose from on campus.

    While at times academic life seems stressful and overwhelming, the thing I love about Carthage is the availability of both professors and upperclassmen willing to help you, if you only ask.

    Work with your advisor. They are there for you, and knowing what you'll be doing makes the online registration so much easier. Also, work with the student instructors. Quite often, they may have a way of explaining a topic that might be different than the instructor, and therefore very helpful.

    Greek life is a popular aspect of campus life. I am in a co-ed social fraternity, and I like it a lot. It's a great way to secure a network of friends that will always be there for you. It's not for everyone, though, and pledging isn't easy. If it's something you think might be for you, try rushing! I'm glad I did.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are countless clubs on campus and it's incredibly easy to get involved. From political groups to volunteer groups, Carthage offers a wide variety of activities for every kind of interest. Many people create their own clubs as well. Shameless plug: Meditation Club is one of the highlights on campus.
    Great for these types of students

    Carthage is great for the strong-minded. If you're ambitious and have a strong personality, you'll do great. Also, students here must be willing to learn about themselves and others, and have an open mind.

    Carthage is a good school, but it is expensive. More so the latter than the former.
    What to do for fun

    This is tricky. Carthage can get small and boring and those that have families nearby often go home on the weekends. Many people join Greek life, but even the frats and sororities have to look for things to do sometimes. There are PLENTY of bars around, but if your under 21 that's obviously not an option. The Carthage Activities Board will sometimes host comedians, musicians, and movies, which is nice. The theater program is great, so I'd recommend seeing the plays and musicals as well. Fortunately, if ever you're dying to get off campus, it's only a $7 round-trip, 45 minute train ride to Chicago and about a 45 minute drive to Milwaukee.
    Food and Dining

    There are two coffee shops on campus, not counting Einstein's Bagels, which also sells coffee. As a student, that's a godsend. On the meal plan, you're given 350 points (dollars) a year to spend on food (called rollovers), plus an extra 50 every week. These can be used in ANY on-campus food places or coffee shops. The cafeteria is 4 points upon entering and it's the best deal because it's buffet-style all-you-can-eat! They're remodeling this summer and changing up menus this summer.
    Dorm Life

    As I said before, stay in the dorms your first year. The roommate assignment process at Carthage isn't great, so if you're going to take a chance it's safer to stick with just one roommate. The dorms, unlike to the Oaks or the on-campus apartments, often have open-door policies, meaning that everyone gets to know one another right away. Your RA will organize events for your floor as well. Oftentimes your first college friends will be those on your floor. Living in the dorms makes it easy to quickly assimilate into college life and meet people.
    Academic Rigor

    This question is difficult, because of course it depends on the classes. Ideally, I would answer this with three and a half stars, but it doesn't let me do that. Unless you are intentionally taking easy classes, Carthage's courses are generally challenging. The honors program offers opportunities to go above and beyond and earn recognition as well.
    Tips for prospective students

    1. For the first year at least, stay in the dorms. Ideally a two-person dorm. Triples and quads sound exciting, but unless you are already really close with both or all of your roommates, chances are pretty slim that it's going to work out. 2. Don't get discouraged if you don't do well in Western Heritage, a required course for freshmen. Many people do not like and do not do well in this class. However, I strongly encourage you to try. As long as you participate in discussions and complete the assignments you'll be okay. Who knows, you might learn a thing or two about yourself as well! 3. Talk to professors. They're there to help you, and they appreciate when students care enough about their education to ask questions.

    Carthage College is a place that will teach you about life, not just college life. The academic atmosphere is tense and competitive at times, and despite the enforced dry campus rule it is much more of a party school than one might expect from a small, private Lutheran school. The campus is beautiful, and Lake Michigan never fails to inspire.

    There are many different clubs and organizations that offer lots of things to do both on and off campus. With the gym and pool in close proximity to all residence halls it is a hub for students. Division three sports offer a chance to students to watch or participate in sporting events.

    There are 2 main dining halls on campus and each one offers a different perspective on food. Kenosha, Wisconsin is a big enough town that it offers many different dining options if one gets bored with college dining.

    Again in terms of dorm life I am not fully aware. I have received my roommate pairing and we get along pretty well. The nice part about Carthage is that they give you what you need early so you can prepare yourself for school.
    Academic Rigor

    In terms of academic rigour I am not fully sure yet for I am not there. I plan to attend in fall 2012 and am very excited. Hopefully this school will open my horizons and expand my knowledge.
    Tips for prospective students

    For prospective students I would simply say, apply early, it never hurts. Also I would say to get in touch with the staff at the college, especially if you have college credits like I did. Finally, I would tell prospective students to visit a college and go on a tour before you make your decision. Visiting will open your eyes to things you like and may not like.

    The campus is beautiful and will give awe to almost anyone. With lots of assistance from their staff I did not feel pressured to make important decisions too quickly. You could not ask for much more with all of the pros of this college.

    The campus feels very safe during the day. There are always security personnel around campus and blue lights for student use in the event of an emergency. I have never had a night class so I cannot say that the after dark security is as comforting, but I've never heard anything against this idea.

    Carthage has a wide range of clubs and activities offered to students. Personally they err on the side of too many religious clubs and organizations for a college. As with any college you have to look in order to find things that interest you.

    If you are looking for a religious college experience Carthage could be the perfect fit for you. It is also great if you're looking for a more personal experience because it is a very small college with smaller class sizes. Carthage is a great commuter school if you live in the Kenosha area due to the compact campus size and the ability to create a schedule that allows you to get all of your classes done relatively close together.

    Carthage is a Catholic affiliated college, but the presence of religion is a bit too prominent for my taste. I am not religiously affiliated at this point in my life and the fact that I am forced to take not one but two religion classes to graduate irks me a bit. However, they did make an effort to let the courses be general religion courses and not specifically Christian.
    Bang for the buck

    Carthage is a very expensive school, but they advertise that 99% of their students receive financial assistance from Carthage. I personally did receive scholarships and grants, however they left a little to be desired. After the aid the tuition cost was still astronomical and comparable to that of other private institutions in the area.
    What to do for fun

    Carthage has a wide variety of clubs and sports to be a part of. They are located on the lakefront of Lake Michigan so the beach and beautiful lookouts are within walking distance. There is also an outdoor movie theatre just up the road which is very affordable and a lot of fun on a Friday or Saturday night.
    Food and Dining

    I also do not have a meal plan, but I have eaten on campus. The selection is not extremely wide, but the quality is there. The prices are steeper, but you're paying for a better product than traditional school lunch type food.
    Dorm Life

    I am not staying in the dorms, but on a tour I found them to be lacking. When I have visited dorm students it is always loud and the rooms are very small. The cleanliness factor also leaves a little to be desired.
    Academic Rigor

    The academic rigor depends on your program and how quickly you want to be out of college. Each student can design their program to accommodate them to a point where their course work is manageable. I found my advisor was trying to make my program easier where I was trying to up the rigor.
    Tips for prospective students

    Take everything into your own hands. Do your research on your program so when you go in to schedule for classes you can be forceful in the event that the people you meet with do not share your vision on your experience. Ask all the questions you can think of and keep searching for people who are on your side and will help you until you find them.

    The Admissions staff were very friendly once one on one meetings were set up, but all over the phone conversations met me with dead ends. My personal advisor for my first year seems nice and will help me get into classes I need to take. However, she was very set in her ways and not open to my personal situation and personal needs about my education.

    If you buy a thermos in the beginning of the semester (you only have to buy one total). You can get a refill of coffee at starbuck's for 69 cents and 65 cents at Bagel Einstein's. Add some sugar and cream, and save yourself a ton of money on coffee.

    I like to exercise and golf during the summer. There are a ton of great golf courses in the area that even run along Lake Michigan. But I do enjoy my sleep.

    The food is good here. We have Starbucks. Seattle's Best, Jamba Juice, and Bagel Einsteins to name a few. But beware of the cost.

    Do expect to read books and write papers. But it's not so intense where you're in the library every night until midnight. However, the library is open until midnight the last two weeks of the semester.

    I feel extremely safe on campus. There are plenty of street lamps on at night, security wanders the campus at like eight or nine at night until I don't even know when. The buildings are secured. There are also a few emergency buttons located on campus too, if one doesn't feel safe at night.

One of my professor even work with me on an additional book not assigned in class to further my knowledge.     This is a private school so the cost is a little more expensive but it is completely worth it. The school will get you done with your studies in 4 years.     On campus there are many diverse clubs that are available. There are also many sports both NCAA, intramural, and club. The Activities Board always has great and fun activities planned each week. There is a movie theater upstairs and also performances by music groups, and other acts on campus.

    The cafeteria at Carthage just got a make over. It is very modern and the food is always great. On campus there are many places that students love like Starbucks and a wings place. there are also many great places to eat in down town kenosha just minutes from campus.

    The dorms are wonderful and have views of Lake Michigan. Each floor has programs and everyone is very close knit. The dorms are cleaned every day.

    The classes are hard and set to a higher standard. The school is small so help is always available and teachers are willing to work with their students. A Carthage education is extremely beneficial for future careers.

    As a new student, get involved in the activities that make you happy right away. Take time to get organized and study for all of your classes. Also, do not be afraid to be yourself because you will do better in school and be happier.

    There is a shuttle that goes to a hotel downtown that is used for campus so even if you don't have transportation you can at least get downtown to explore and eat out. There are plenty of clubs and organizations to join with their own activities. There is a movie theatre where they play a movie each week most times. There are guest performers and a huge music concert with past artists including The Script, 30 Seconds to Mars, Jason Derulo, and the Dave Matthews Band.
    Food and Dining

    Cafeteria is recently remodeled and the food is good with some healthy options and some standard fare. Other options on campus aren't so good and eat up you points that you are giving. It's really up to you how you use them.
    Dorm Life

    A dry campus, but college is college. Are several options for housing, but the basic is a tiny room with a bathroom on the floor. If you are more of a private person, you should go for the singles in the Oaks. You get your own space. If you want the whole college experience then the regular housing should suite you.
    Academic Rigor

    Classes vary in difficulty, but generally are more harder as you advance to upper level courses within your major. That pretty much is standard wherever you go. There is an honors program. You will have to do a senior thesis, but the form varies by major.
    Tips for prospective students

    Try to get a room with a lake view as that's a big reason a lot of people come here. Join clubs if you can, but don't feel obligated. If there isn't anything for you then you can always form one. Don't feel intimidated by anyone. You are here just as they are. You are equals. Don't wait till you are a senior to start attending games. Keep track of classes you still need to take.

    The only expectations I can expand on are for the adult 7-week term. There is a lot of reading expected in a short period of time. Assignments must be completed and the writing center is a requirement for all classes attended.

    Get involved with the different clubs or groups offered. Watch the events calendar for a lot of activities the college offers for free. Take one of the J-term trips because they are well worth their minimal cost.

    I've never felt unsafe on campus. Security always has a presence, but I never feel followed. Vehicles patrol the campus constantly, and there are officers stationed at various posts throughout the day and night. There is also night transportation to parking lots and security is always only a phone call away. RAs and hall directors also work to make the community safe and happy.
    Greek Life

    Greek life is strong, but there is a large percentage of students who are not involved. We have academic, social, honorary, and service fraternities and sororities. We have greek life at both the local and national levels, and those who choose not to participate are still widely respected by those in Greek life.
    Clubs and Activities

    There are countless (and I really do mean countless) clubs and activities to participate in. You really do have to pick and choose. We have everything from your regular sports such as football and soccer to more odd sports like ultimate frisbee, fencing, and quidditch. There are also various clubs that range in interest from politics to academic areas to Pokemon.

    Carthage is great for anyone! It is a welcoming and diverse community of students.

    The main traditions on campus are chalking campus drive and painting the kissing rock. Organizations and groups can use sidewalk chalk to promote events and meetings. Sometimes there are just inspirational messages and cool drawings on the way to class. This goes on throughout the year. You never know what you'll see. The Kissing Rock is a rock that was transported from Carthage's original home in Carthage, Illinois. Groups paint the rock, which is on display, in order to recognize their group. The color can change daily, and it can also correspond to holidays and awareness weeks.
    Bang for the buck

    Although Carthage is a bit up there in price, they do a great job of trying to get the costs down. I was blessed with scholarships, as were most of the people I know. Carthage isn't about making money; it's about learning new things and getting great opportunities that you don't get at larger schools. There is also a J-term option where you can travel to other countries for lower costs than if you were to go alone or outside of school. Because of Carthage, I have been able to travel to Puerto Rico, Germany, Poland, and China. If there is a place you are interested, there is likely a J-term trip that travels there. And you get college credit!
    What to do for fun

    There are daily events that range from Bingo and movie nights to concerts and comedians. There are also dances sponsored by fraternities and sororities as well as countless events sponsored by various organizations. There are also pool tables and common areas to hang out and play games.
    Food and Dining

    Carthage has an overwhelming number of dining options. It has the regular dining commons, but it also has Starbucks, Seattle's Best, Baja Fresh, Jamba Juice, World of Wings, Einstein's Bagels, Freshens, and Street Corner. There's no reason to get sick of school food when you have all of these great options right in front of you!
    Dorm Life

    The dorms can be close-knit communities if you want them to be. Who you know on your floor really depends on you. RAs work very hard to make each and every floor and building a community, and it works! You get to know the RAs as well as other people on your floor, in your building, and across campus. There are daily evening activities sponsored by various organizations that residents can participate in.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes are challenging, but teachers are more than willing to work with you to help you succeed. Classes in your major and minor are designed for you to learn but still do well. You may feel overwhelmed, but everyone does at some point. The key is to use the incredible resources available to you (professors, advisors, peer tutors, library and information, writing center, hall directors, nurse, etc.).

    Don't be afraid to join any club you're interested in. You'll find which ones are best for you after a couple meetings. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions. Both students and faculty want you to succeed, and if they don't know the answer, they will be more than willing to point you in the right direction.

    What to do for fun

    There are a lot of things to do for fun on campus and off campus. They have comedians and other types of entertainment that come to campus. Their are sporting events and fabulous exercise facilities to use. Also the small town that it is in has plenty of things to do within a short distance. Also it has Milwaukee to the north and Chicago to the south.
    Food and Dining

    The food is pretty good for a college. There are different places on campus that you can get food at. Also the shuttles can take you off campus and their are plenty of fabulous Italian and other restaurants throughout Kenosha.
    Dorm Life

    The students are all very friendly and the dorms are not too small in size. The campus is not that large and the dorms are close to each other, close to the recreation center, and close to the classes. Their are shuttles that will take you off campus if you want. The lake is right next to campus and looks very beautiful.
    Academic Rigor

    You enter into classes related to your major right away. There are classes that teach you how to write and read properly and to think on your own. The professors are very helpful.
    Tips for prospective students

    Apply regardless of the high tuition and just try to keep finding ways and different scholarships to lower the price. Go to class everyday and pay attention in class and your professors will always be willing to help you.

    What to do for fun

    The Carthage Activity Board has weekly events like movies and comedians that are always a great time, and the location of Carthage makes it easy to travel to either Chicago, Milwaukee, or even dowtwon Kenosha to find plenty of other options.
    Food and Dining

    I personally like the food in the cafeteria, which is buffet style. There is also a few options in the student union that are a little more expensive, but also even better!
    Dorm Life

    Most of the dorms are typical 2 person rooms, but there are options for everyone. There are new dorms called the oaks that offer a more sutie style with a shared bathroom, there are all girl and all buy dorms, as well as study intensive, all depending on your preference. They are also very well kept by the staff!
    Academic Rigor

    So far, I have been impressed by the academic demads of Carthage. It is challenging, yet still achievable as long as students apply themselves appropriately.
    Tips for prospective students

    Prospective students shold definitely talk to current student and ask honest questions to really get a feel for the school. I also recommend sitting in on a class and getting a tour of the campus to see if the fit seems right.

    Carthage College has an absolutely beautiful campus, tremendous professors and staff, and a great student body. Carthage has numerous opportunities in terms of academic endeavors, sports, and extra-curricular activities. It also offers wonderful resources for school work, as well as life after Carthage.

    There are movies almost every weekend for free as well as special guests and activities. There are also enough extracurricular activities to keep almost anyone busy.
    Food and Dining

    The food is good. If you have the meal plan it's a pretty good life. The cafeteria always has good food and there are several other dining options as well as a small convenient store for snacks.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms in general are pretty great. I live in Johnson Hall and I love it here, we've all become one big extended family. In this building almost everyone has a great view of the lake.
    Academic Rigor

    These classes are definitely set up to make you a better thinker. The course load itself is not too bad but they do expect you to beyond average with your answers.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are looking for on campus jobs try to get here early as most of them will be taken up by upperclassmen early, however they will become available again later during the semester as people get busy with school and other issues.

    In the student union, there's pool tables, areas to lounge in, and a theater (they tend to have three different movie showtimes in a week). They also have the Tarble Center where there's plenty of exercising opportunities.

    The main cafeteria can get a little boring after awhile. However, they do provide delicious brunches and breakfasts. The campus also has Jamba Juice, WOW, Einsteins, Freshens, Baja Fresh, Seattle's Best, and Starbucks. There is also a corner store that has pricey stuff.
    Dorm Life

    There's a right fit for everyone. My floor can be very loud during the day but I am not at my dorm very often (just for sleeping) so it's not much of a problem for me.

    The academics here are very good. Teachers are generally very good about offering extra help if needed.
    Tips for prospective students

    Apply early (even summer before your senior year is not too early) in order to apply for scholarships - it's quite pricey here. In addition, visit campus and shadow a student.

    The cafeteria food is not good. They are working on this, but it is still fairly unhealthy and poor quality. The cafeteria is very nice though because it was just remodeled. The food places in the Student Union are also very unhealthy and overpriced. They could really improve on this.

    The dorm halls are a great place to make friends. Certain halls are quieter than others and easier to study in. Lounges are great places to hang out and study in. The new Oaks dorms are really nice and allow you to have your own bedroom and only share a bathroom and sink with someone else.

    Classes are hard and definitely prepare you for either your job or further schooling after college. Faculty are way overqualified for their positions so you know you're getting educated by the best.

    Branch out of your comfort zone! Join lots of campus organizations because that is a great way to make friends. Start your year off strong academically and don't slack off.

    Greek Life is an awesome community to be a part of on campus. Each fraternity and sorority is different and known for hosting different events. Although they are different, each sorority and fraternity gets along with one another.
    What to do for fun

    Generally clubs or organizations have events open to every student. Sports games are generally going on all the time. People either hang out around campus or go off campus to eat or do something else.

    The food options are currently Einsteins, Seattle's Best, Jamba Juice, Baja Fresh, Wow, Starbucks, and the cafeteria. The cafeteria is the cheapest food option but it has both good and bad days. The rest of the food and beverage options gets old quick.
