Great for these types of students

Central would be great for hard working students who also like to have fun and make friends. It is a perfect size campus for feeling comfortable around everyone and getting to know a lot of people its small enough to walk across and is very pretty so if you like walking it is a good campus because we have a park rite off of campus. It is also a great campus for students who want to be teacher because it has the reputation of being one of the best teaching colleges in Connecticut.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest that if you go to this school buy your books online i bought mine at half.com and the cost so much less than they would have at the bookstore because being a college student we try and save as much money as we can because college is expensive. Also I would suggest that If you are a girl stay in the all girls dorm. I know that it may not sound to exciting but we have bigger dorms and it is quite a bit quieter here than in the other dorms. Finally i would suggest applying to the honors program because it has a great scholarship and you get to take some pretty cool classes because of it. Also if you dont like Central are other schools that go along with it like eastern and Western Connecticut State University that you could look into

    Bang for the buck

You get really great classes at central for what you pay and compared to other colleges in Connecticut central doesn't cost very much our bookstore however is rather expensive i would suggest shopping else where and the food is OK but it gets boring after a while as I'm sure it probably does at all colleges but as far as the education part (which is probably the most important ) you will be getting a wonderful learning experience for a reasonable amount of money for college.

    Am enjoying being here

I really like being at school people here are very friendly and it is like living in a nice little community where everyone helps each other. We also have a lot of programs going on everyday and a weekly program on Thursday's called devils den at ten pm it is a fun program to go to and encourages kids to have clean fun instead of going off campus to drink and do other unsafe things. There are also great dorms here where everyone becomes friends with everyone else! The one downfall is that we don't have much to do here on weekends.

    Am learning a lot

I am in the Schools Honor program and am learning so much from all of my honors and non honors classes. most of my teachers have been very helpful and they all know what they are talking about and are enthusiastic about it. I am also learning a lot about life outside of the classroom here. Central provides a great environment for getting used to living away from home. The RA's and RD's are very helpful if you have room problems or if you just are looking for suggestions about school or activities you should attend I am learning how to manage my time with a lot of the programs so I have time to do my homework have some fun and even have a job if i want.

Great for these types of students

Central is a great school for education majors. It is one of the top teaching schools on the East coast. For other majors, there is a variety of majors to chose from and they recently added a nursing program for students aspiring to become an R.N.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you chose a school that you can afford. You do not want to be paying for college ten years after you graduate. Central is just as good as any private school, except thousands of dollars cheaper.

    Bang for the buck

Since CCSU is a state school, the price is very low compared to the expensive private schools most high school students strive for. Last year around March 2010, I was planning on going to a private school. After getting the financial report of $35,000 a year including all of the financial aid I received, I decided that going to a state school would be much more affordable. Looking back on my first year of college, I am no where near in debt because my scholarships went a long way. Not only is the school inexpensive, the bookstore runs a program where you can rent books for half of what the price would be. It only cost me about $250 last semester for books for 6 classes.

    Am enjoying being here

As part of the full college experience, I live on campus in the dorms. I have met so many great friends and the housing staff is extremely welcoming. The dorms are clean and the police officers keep everyone safe and protected.

    Am learning a lot

Central is, in my opinion, one of the best schools in the state. I have learned so much from all of the wonderful teachers. Majoring in elementary education studying biology, I have begun to take classes pertaining to my specific major. In the spring 2011 semester, I took a child psychology class learning how young minds develop and how his/her environment is crucial to cognitive development. Overall, I have learned a lot in each of my classes and I feel like I am extremely challenged.

Great for these types of students

CCSU is great for people who want to work on the weekends and make money.

    Tips for prospective students

Know full well beforehand that the weekends are dead on the weekends, so if you are looking for a party school, Central is not for you. I would suggest joining a club or team to get to know people on campus. I, personally, do not mind the commuters because I am friends with a lot of the athletes who always stay the weekends.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely worth the money, especially if it's in-state tuition

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying my experience here. Central is a good size school, so there are familiar faces, but you also are able to meet new people constantly. The only down side would be the number of commuters. CCSU is a big commuter school, so the weekends are dead on campus.

    Am learning a lot

Central has a strong education department. I have not a had a bad teacher so far in my three semesters here. The only weaker department would be the math, from my experience. As for if I am learning a lot, I would say yes I am! But that has mostly to do with what I put into studying and learning information on my own, not so much as to what the professors are lecturing

Great for these types of students

CCSU is great for students who want to attend a decent sized school. It is the perfect distance away from home because it is right in the middle of connecticut- not too close (to parents ;) ) and not to far either :) It offers most majors and all in all, it is just a friendly, typical college environment.

    Tips for prospective students

It is definitely easy to slack off and get sidetracked at CCSU especially when the weather is nice and everyone likes to lay out in the sun in bikinis and throw footballs and frisbees' around. Future students should try their best to stay focused. Besides that, it is also important to get involved in school activities and get to know people because as awesome as it is, it is also easy to be alone a lot and ultimately hate it there. (Especially when you don't live on campus.)

    Bang for the buck

I'm not sure if CCSU has the bang for the buck because it seems to me that they use money to put new TV's & other unnecessary things in the cafe & they barely work; either that, or they're just never on. Also, they claim to use some of our tuition money for the activities in the residence halls but the activities are not at all appealing so people never go to them unless they're giving out free stuff..when I say stuff, I mean food. The food in the cafe is pretty much the same everyday which is not too bad but who wants to eat pasta and cold cuts everyday? On the bright side, many other things are free such as use of the gym and other classes the gyms offer. Sometimes, they have good shows that people actually attend and they'll sometimes have good food come to us in the cafe. They have different resources that help you improve your math and writing skills. They also provide free tutoring and you can even get a learning coach!

    Am enjoying being here

All in all, I enjoy the times that I have on campus at CCSU. Not that the school itself is so exciting, but the people are nice and fun to be around. During the week, the clubs on campus try to do things on campus but I feel that they are not too appealing. The weekends are the worst on campus because there is absolutely nothing to do unless it's the beginning or end of the semester, and major school events and holidays. All in all,

    Am learning a lot

I definitely learn a bunch at CCSU. Most of the things I'm learning in my Gen Eds I can remember from high school but I learn a lot of useful and valuable things in my major classes such as marketing, accounting, statistics, etc. It is challenging just enough and it is easy to go to most of the professors for help if needed. :)

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get used to coming home every weekend, or else you will never stay here longer than needed.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely worth the money, (assuming its instate) even out of state isn't bad but if you're not really looking for a big challenge and just want some education, it's very worth the money.

    Am enjoying being here

Really boring most of the time. Majority of people are really nice and helpful, but mostly a commuter school, therefore weekends are really boring and it's hard to make a big group of friends. Mostly just a party school, definately don't recommend it for someone like myself who is serious about things other than social aspects.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are pretty easy, it's easy to slack off, i'm finding the only challenging part is to keep up on readings.

    Campus Safety

On school campus police is a great way to keep people safe. Nothing has happened to this point that I know of

    Clubs and Activities

They have a variety of sports and activities. My favorite are rugby, flag football, and dodgeball

Great for these types of students

Class size and professors. Going in to college people said that it was such a hazzle to be in college. To this point, I don't know what they are talking about. It's fun and enjoyable.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

On campus they have little events. This allows for students to peform an act and get little presents. This is a good way to interact with people you don't know.

    Bang for the buck

All classes are worth your money. It isn't tough and professor just want the best for you. Do the work and they won't doubt you

    What to do for fun

For fun I play xbox and watch television. But most the time your doing work and getting stuff done which is during your free time

    Food and Dining

Food is the same everyday it seems like, however, they are brodening the choses and making vegetarian dishes which is unique

    Dorm Life

You're alone and you meet lots of new faces. Not loud were you can't do homework. Very pieceful and mellow

    Academic Rigor

Isn't tought; if you do your homeowork and meet with professors classes and grades should be easy to keep up with

    Tips for prospective students

Choose a college that is good for you; don't choose it based on friends. You will learn lots of materials in a smaller class instead of a huge class. Also, meet with professors they aren't mean; they're there to help

    In three sentences

This college is all you can ask for. Not to many people in classes and is a small university where learning material is much easier to grasp on.

    Campus Safety

Campus police holds DUI checks often on Thursday nights around campus, which is a really good thing because it keeps the campus community safe. CCSU police are always visibly present on campus and there are several blue-light posts where students in need can call for help. Safety is held to a high standard at Central and I have never felt unsafe in my three years that I have spent here. The campus safety is conveniently located and easily accessible to students. There is a lot of talk on campus about ways to stay safe, and other positive messages about health and safety concerns for college students. Responses and alerts about crimes in the area are posted quickly and effectively (through use of email and text message alerts) and keep students informed of any possible danger occurring on campus. CCSU has high safety regulations and I believe it is a safe place to be.

    Greek Life

I am not involved in Greek life on campus. I know of a girl who did get involved in sorority life and she really seems to love it. Frats and Sororities are not a huge part of Central life, but there is definitely activity in case you are interested!

    Clubs and Activities

Habitat for Humanity is an awesome club on campus. They go on a spring break build every spring and host events throughout the year. There is a commuter club. There are so many clubs that it would be impossible to name them all. There is a website that lists all of the clubs at Central which can be found on the CCSU Website--just search for clubs and organizations and it will take you to the link. Central is also super encouraging to students that want to form their own club. If a club does not exist on campus, one must simply create an idea for one, throw around a few ideas and activities that could be held and then present it to the Activities advisor. Central is really supportive of the campus community and strives to include everyone. Don't worry about having nothing to do, campus life really is booming at Central.

Great for these types of students

Speaking from an English major's point of view, students with a desire to study English should definitely consider CCSU. Many of my English professors are highly qualified and really admirable human beings. All of my professors are published, and many continue to work on publishing works. My professors are friends with many wonderful writers, such as Yusef Komunyakaa. Many of them have gone to the countries in which the author of their studies wrote to further study him or her. The English department is outstanding at Central and I would greatly recommend it to any interested English (or even undeclared) majors. You'll fall in love with CCSU's English department.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a great Falafel place right next to Central. A Falafel is essentially fried chickpeas, or hummus, in a pita. It may sound unappetizing, but it is quite amazing! There is a great theater community on campus, and although I do not act, the plays are really entertaining (and often free for students!). New Britain contains a plethora of off-beat fun and entertainment and is definitely a great place to attend school!

    Bang for the buck

CCSU wants to give you the most cost-effective schooling as possible. Many students complain that college is too expensive, but this is not true of all colleges. My previous private school did not offer me nearly as many resources or cost-effective respect that Central does. First, the library is Tremendous! It is so large, and clean, and the librarians are so helpful. Many of the books students must read for their classes can actually be found in the library (a definite money-saver come book-buying time). The bookstore offers tons of used books to save money and started a new program where students can rent books for the semester at an extremely reasonable price. Students get $10 of free printing each Month, which is more than the average student would need. CCSU offers free or greatly reduced major events on and off campus throughout the school year, such as major artists at the spring and fall concerts (with names like Mac Miller, J. Cole, and LMFAO). Students are also encouraged to apply for school scholarships each year and CCSU makes a great effort to lower costs for students. Through the library website, students are exposed to many journals and research information that would otherwise not be available to them (except through paid membership). This perk is highly useful and helps broaden one's academic ability and know-how. CCSU also offers lots of free giveaways like T-Shirts and cups and other memorabilia. Hey, it's small, but it's still nice to be able to sport something with your school's name and know that it was free. CCSU Pride!

    What to do for fun

Central always has tons of activities going on. On campus there is a game room with billiards, air hockey, and more. This is where a lot of people hang out on the evenings. Central also has activities every Thursday night (which is a night dubbed college night because many students choose to hang out with friends) which are free and often really fun. One night students created their own Kanye-West Shudder-Glasses with spin art. Central also has tons of free activities happening on campus every week. In the warm months, ice cream booths are randomly set up, carnivals with jump-houses and fried dough trucks come around. There are tons of clubs, and organizations that include all sorts of interests and talents. Basically, CCSU has tons of awesome activities and fun events going on always. People may complain that CCSU is boring, but one must put out a little effort and the fun is at their fingertips!

    Food and Dining

Since I have not lived on campus, I have not eaten in the school cafeteria too often. I have as a commuter, however, eaten in the Devil's Den quite often. This is an area where students can eat, talk, check emails, etc in the center of campus. It is a food court with a Starbucks, an italian eatery, a sandwich bar, a burger-and-fries eatery, and a quick grab-and-go type section. I eat here when I have a little downtime because it is good food, and I also get a discount when I use my bluechip card (student ID card). I don't need a meal-plan and my parents can reload my bluechip whenever they are feeling generous, so it is super convenient and a nice place to relax in between classes.

    Dorm Life

I have not lived in any of the dorms on Campus at CCSU. I lived in dorms at my last school, but not at Central. I lived at Essex Place Apartments for two years, though, which is walking distance from CCSU. Many college students live in this building. I loved living near campus and away from home--much more than living in a dorm. This experience was great for building up my personal responsibility and giving me the confidence to know that I can live on my own and support myself. I am moving back home now for my last year in school, though, because I am realizing the financial restraints which are about to overwhelm me in the coming year and I need to start saving every penny that I can--including a rent check. Living at home is totally okay to do at Central as many, many students commute. There is always a ton of stuff going on at Central and many students live in dorms/apartments nearby so making friends with these students will help you feel at home and really part of the Central Community. Like I said, the commuter population at Central is enormous so the campus always has events aimed at this demographic. You will never be bored on campus, I promise!

    Academic Rigor

I love being challenged academically and CCSU has definitely challenged me to become a better student and thinker. Professors care about my education and single me out to better myself in their classes. One of my English professors asked us to complete in-depth literary analyses is 125-word or fewer paragraphs; she did not quit on me until I shaved my answers down--as she knew I had it in me. I am part of the English department and all of the professors are wonderfully qualified. CCSU demands academic excellence, but does so in a way that really nurtures and cultivates students. There is not insane pressure to get excellent grades and turn in excellent work, but rather one is surrounded by the encouragement and coaching culture that allows every student to really succeed academically. I did have one really rough semester, where I received two C's, one B, and one A, but my advisor, and teachers were really helpful. I attended all of my classes, but due to my life issues I wasn't able to get those straight A's that I have been so used to all of my life. Central is greatly understanding, and feels like such a warm, welcoming, supportive family. The academics are hard, but so so worthwhile.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early to all of your prospective schools. Gauge costs realistically; Really think about how much you are willing to spend on college, and then make sure the college you choose is Worth it.

    In three sentences

CCSU is awesome. I transferred from a smaller, private school in Boston and I have found the academic demands (and gains) at Central refreshingly strong. At Central, you are asked to pay a reasonable fee (as opposed to the price-tag of a few small islands that other schools ask), are surrounded by wonderful resources, and have the opportunity to really learn a lot--as the professors are extremely caring, knowledgeable, and invested in their students.

    What to do for fun

There are always activites and events being held at the school. A club called C.A.N. (Central Activities Network) hosts and make events for the students to attend and there's always free food and giveaways. For the students who stay in the resident halls there is Dean's Cup which all the halls compete in against eachother which is loads of fun!

    Tips for prospective students

Definately have a plan for what classes you want to take and when you want to take them. Once registration time comes classes fly and get booked up, especially when getting into the program classes.

    In three sentences

Central is a very enjoyable place to attend school. There are very many clubs and activities to do constantly year round. The professors are all very helpful and lead the students in the right direction. Athletics are awesome here being that it's a division 1 school. There are intramurals that everyone can participate in, events going on constantly, and it's never a dull moment. The resident halls are all kept tidy and everyone welcomes you with open arms. Overall, great place to attend school!

The resources here at CCSU are great The tutors here at CCSU are great and are available when needed. There is also The Writing Center. This place helps students to become better writers.

    Am enjoying being here

This school is a very fun school to attend. There are a lot of clubs that one can be apart of. They have have clubs for basically everything such as Equestrian Club or the Car Club.

    Am learning a lot

At CCSU I am learning to become my own person. I have realized that I am only going to get what i put into the school. Attending CCSU has mad me a responsible person. I am also learning how to become an adult, by taking care of what I need to do in order to become a successful student. Professors are not going to bend your arm in order for you to pass classes. Its the students' responsibility to go to the teacher if he/she needs help in the class and the professors are more than glad to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure CCSU has your major! It is not fun to go through a year and then realize you have to transfer.

    Bang for the buck

This school is definitely among the cheapest choices for schools, especially if you are in-state. I'm not sure what the prices are for out of state students, but i know one of the reasons i chose CCSU is because of the price. Not many people can afford a large amount of money for college, and this college has everything that any other college can offer. It's definitely the best state school in CT.

    Am enjoying being here

They classes and professors are great, but so are all of the other students on campus and the campus activities. I have made so many friends living on campus and i am also on the Cheerleading team. I absolutely love the experiences i am gaining from CCSU. There are always events being planned through out every week. They are for the most part free and always fun!

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a lot. I am a Secondary Ed, Mathematics major and i love the courses that CCSU has to offer. They definitely suit my interests and there are so many options. I learn something new in every one of my classes.

Great for these types of students

CCSU is a great school for those who don't like big universities. Central is a small campus whose students are a community. If your looking to have close friendships and an amazing education, don't be afraid to choose CCSU.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip to new students is to always approach new situations with an open mind. Also, be sure to make new friends and connections while in college.

    Bang for the buck

First year students tend to get a better financial aid package then the returning students. I'm currently struggling to to pay my bill due to the fact that they took almost $2,000 away from me. It sucks, but I just gotta keep my head up. Financial problems are apart of life and aer nothing to be embarrassed about. Just be sure to seek help if you need it.

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy the campus. There is always something going on whether it be a carnival or a concert. Everyone is having fun. The people on campus are nice and outgoing.

    Am learning a lot

At CCSU, most professors go out of their way to insure success for their students. Whenever you having trouble they are there to help. I learned so much from my peers and professors. If it wasn't for their help, I wouldn't have made the Dean's List nor made new friendships.

There are a ton of stations with a blue light, so if you feel unsafe, or want an escort to your dorm, then all you do is hit the button and a CCSU police officer will be there to help. The police station is located where it is easy to get anywhere. If you ever need anything they are there to help you.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of clubs available to join on campus. They have everything from major based clubs to hobby based clubs. If the club you're interested in isn't available, then you can suggest it to the student government and most of the time they will create the club, as long as there is enough interest in it.

    Dorm Life

I don't live on campus, but I like to visit my friends that do when I have a break. The rooms are really nice and if you pay an extra $500, then you can get the suites that are bigger and are the nicest ones there. All of the dorms are nicely taken care of and they are nice places to live when you are in school.

    Academic Rigor

All of the teachers are there for you when you need help. They all try to help find ways to specifically help you if you're having trouble. They also like to find out what you are interested in and helping you achieve your goals.

Sporting events, activities, clubs, etc. Other than activities held on campus, there isn't really anything to do. The town of New Britain doesn't offer much. There is a large park down the road, and a nice golf course.

    Food and Dining

Food variety is lacking. The dining hall is open at strange hours, too. Overall quality of the food isn't too bad.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is what you make of it. It is possible to be very active within the dorms, and on the other hand, it is easy to keep to yourself. The facilities in general are all fairly old, with the exception of one or two. Also, living on campus is rather expensive for what you get.

    Academic Rigor

Most classes require a fair amount of work. Just like any school, some of the professors are great and others, not so much.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on coming here, make sure you are outgoing and are ready to seek out for friendships and activities. If not, you will be pretty bored here. A lot of people commute, so the campus is dead on the weekends, unless there is a big sporting event.

    In three sentences

CCSU is primarily a commuting college for students who live within a reasonable distance. It is a small, division one school, with a decent athletics department. Academics offered range from construction management to nursing degrees.

    Food and Dining

There is campus police who are always around campus and you can easily call if you have a problem. If anything out of order is going on they show up within minutes.

    Greek Life

None really, there is sorority's you can join but it's more of a club. The people don't live together in a house or anything, they just meet every week and host occasionally events.

    Clubs and Activities

There is over 50+ clubs that you can join anytime throughout the year.

Great for these types of students

Commuter students in CT who want a college atmosphere but still plan on living at home.

There is often fun events planned on campus throughout the day for commuters to nightly events for those who live on campus. Also at the student center there is a game room with pool, table tennis, video games, and more.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food available mainly to people who dorm and have meal plans isn't that good. But there is a whole cafeteria in the student center where anyone can purchase food from one of five restaurants that carry almost anything you could want, just a bit pricey.

    Dorm Life

I don't dorm, but I've heard it's bad. I've heard many people have been matched with roommates they don't get along with at all, and it's common for someone to pull a fire alarm at 3am and the whole building will have to evacuate.

    Academic Rigor

Mostly good and helpful professors, large selection of classes including various fun electives available.

    Tips for prospective students

Show up early to the school before your classes begin, it really can take you 30 minutes to find a parking space and when you finally find one it might be nowhere near where you need to go! So be prepared!

    In three sentences

It's a good school with mostly nice professors. There's always fun social events going on around campus including mini carnivals, free ice-cream and food events, or other free events. There is a large selection of places of campus to hang out and study or eat, but not near enough parking at the school!

    What to do for fun

RecCentral is a group that offers intramurals, fitness classes, workout gyms, and other fun fitness activities that students can partipate in. Devils Den at ten pm is ran every week with different activities. In addition, there are other activities offered, like carnivals or icecream socials.

    Food and Dining

There is the Devil's Den, which is like a huge cafeteria. There are many different options available everyday. In addition, we have Memorial Hall for on campus residents. They offer a program called Devil's Den @ 10pm every thursday night as an option for students to have fun with all kinds of things instead of going out.

    Bang for the buck

They are worth the price. They try their best to show you scholarships and grants in the financial office. They have many resources here like tutors and are available when needed. They have science, math, english, and many other tutoring services for free.

    What to do for fun

There is a programming board on campus called Central Activities Network that I am actually a part of. We offer weekend as well as weekday programs. We have comedians, trips to new york, lectures, music and all other kinds of events. We have had artists such as LMFAO, Big Sean, and this year Kendrick Lamar come for our spring concert. Other clubs and departments have their own events in addition so there is almost always something going on.

    Food and Dining

You will hear a lot about Sodexo, which is the campus food supplier. They don't make the most amazing food but everyone always finds a favorite at the dining hall. And they have a lot of restaurants around campus like subway, froyo, Chinese, pizza, and other places that accept Bluechip. Bluechip is your school ID that also can be used like a debt card. This makes it easy during ordering so that you don't have to have money on you at all times. They also offer vegan and vegetarian dining. And keep soy milk in a fridge for students.

    Dorm Life

I love living on campus. I only left because I thought it would be easier but I have found that I miss it and I plan on moving back on campus. There is a very great sense of community between residents. And with programs they make it very easy to meet people and make friends.

    Academic Rigor

One thing that I appreciated about the professors here at central is that they have taught me self-motivation. Even though they Are always there to help you they leave a lot in your hands to teach you that your education depends on you and not someone else.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply to live on campus if you can. It is a lot of fun and there is always something to on campus the weekends whether it be a movie or music event.

    In three sentences

Central is very much a commuter school and as a resident turned commuter I have seen both sides of the spectrum. They offer a lot of fun programs from general to major related. Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and sports one can join, and all can be seen at the club fairs that are held. Furthermore CCSU offers not only fitness centers but also fitness classes such as Zumba, cardio dance, marine boot camp, spinning classes, yoga, and others. Other activities include movie dates, camping out in Vance lawn, concerts, trips to major cities as well as to recreational activities (such as river rafting), and much more.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for all types of commuters, from the type that just show up for classes to the type that may want a taste of the college life.

    Bang for the buck

CCSU is an affordable school that offers good academic programs and great help to students. It is really interested in helping students to succeed.

    What to do for fun

Definitely join clubs. Each club organizes many fun activities, and keep an eye out for Reccentral. Not only do they regularly form fitness classes and fan busses for students to go to away games and support CCSU, but also several fun trips.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall is food one must get used to. Meal plans are not only offered to resident students but also commuters. There is also a food court in the student center that students may eat at.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life depends on which dorm hall is chosen. You really do get what you pay for. Yet all residence halls provide a lot of interactive activities for residents.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty of classes depends on each professor. Yet one can definitely be successful at CCSU. There are many departments and centers set up for students to receive not only tutoring on nearly any subject but also feedback on papers and projects before they are due.

    Tips for prospective students

    Clubs and Activities

The campus is pretty much dead. The activities that are available aren't really that lively. There are the OCCASIONAL fun activities though.. I guess.

    Bang for the buck

Once again, if you're an out of state student, do NOT come here. You will NOT get your money's worth. If you're in state, very affordable.

    Food and Dining

Same food. Every. Single. Day. Not many options.

    Dorm Life

Gallaudet & Sheridan- if you live Up the hill, these are the best places to stay. The room sizes are OKAY, but the halls are clean and look decent, not out of date like many of the other places. Vance- worst place to stay. enough said. Sam May- it could be worse, but the rooms are small, and very old and dingy looking. Barrows- all girls, biggest rooms, but very out dated building structure. Seth north, Carroll, Beecher- OKAY, wouldn't stay there if you don't want to share a bathroom with a million other people. James- the most recent, an extra $500+ to stay there, not the best place to stay if you want to get some work done but definitely has the best living arrangements. Only building with suite-style option

    Academic Rigor

Central isn't ridiculously academic rigorous but the classes are somewhat challenging. If you stay on top of your work it's not hard to get an A.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a back-up school. I wouldn't suggest this school for any student that is serious about life or serious about going some where in the future.

Security is too strict if anything. The security is notorious for giving out a huge amount of tickets to students for parking in places that they are not allowed to. Rules are strict and everything is thoroughly enforced.

    Clubs and Activities

There is an absurd amount of clubs and activities at CCSU. I looked at the list of clubs and sports and it hurt my head.

Great for these types of students

If you are easy to please and willing to work and communicate then CCSU is the place for you.

    Bang for the buck

The school is easily worth more than you are paying especially if you are a in state resident. The campus is beautiful and the renovations being done to it make it a steal at the cost.

    What to do for fun

Central has been labeled a suitcase school, meaning there's not a lot to do and it is mostly a place to learn. The students are trying very hard to change that image and I think it has made more opportunities to have fun.

    Food and Dining

Unlimited food for roughly $2000 a semester. It can be easily worth it if you make it worth it. The food is average, sometimes it is better than others.

    Dorm Life

The variety of dorms is really cool, some have gyms in the basements, there are quads, apartment style, and even a suite style. People at central are very nice and accommodating. There is not too many people on campus either so you do not feel suffocated.

    Academic Rigor

CCSU has an ever-changing campus that is very appealing. They are constantly improving buildings so students can make the most out of their experience. The professors are very open and are willing to help anyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Use your resources. The school is not that expensive compared to some schools but it still costs a lot of money so get your moneys worth by joining clubs or sports. If you need academic help the professors are there for you and they are very helpful.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

There are campus police around at all times. The campus is not that large so you're not having to walk across town to get home, but it's still better to be safe than sorry. There are emergency call boxes all over campus and in the parking garages for your safety. And you can always call the campus police if you are nervous about walking back to your dorm at night and they will pick you up at your class building and drive you back. Or even drive you to your car in the parking garage if you are a commuter.

    Greek Life

There are different fraternities and sororities but CCSU does not allow Greek houses. The good part of that is there is no limit as to how many people can be in the fraternity or sorority. They do a lot of fundraising around campus and they do require a fee to be a part of them. But that fee goes back to you in clothing and other things.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a lot of clubs on campus and if there's a club that you want to start all you have to do is find a administrator willing to oversee it and you need people willing to join it, you fill out a piece of paper, sign it and voila! You are a club.

Great for these types of students

If you like being part of a community and enjoy academics (and free stuff), then this is the place for you. It's a great school and it wasn't my first choice but I was glad I chose to go here.

    Bang for the buck

Central gives away so many free things, like t-shirts, water bottles, hats, etc. There's a carnival during the fall semester and another one during the spring semester. They're a lot of fun and this past spring they had zip-lining for students to do. It was great!

    What to do for fun

There are trips to Six Flags, Lake Compounce, Boston, New York, you name it. They are always affordable and fun, but tickets can sell out quick so if you want to go you need to get one ASAP. There's also a Fall Concert and a Spring Concert. We've had LMFAO, Mac Miller, Big Sean and many others.

    Food and Dining

Dining is good. There are plenty of options and even special days where they have a sushi night, where someone comes in and makes sushi right in front of you.

    Dorm Life

Living on campus is great. You get to build a great community and if you've never lived away from home before, their dorms are the best place you could be. The resident staff is amazing and there's always something going on in the dorms. Each dorm has a mascot and there is Deans Cup which is every dorm competing against each other all year long at different things; like Iron Chef, Karaoke, etc. and at the end of the spring semester there is a huge competition pretty much winner takes all and you win the cup!

    Academic Rigor

There are a lot of class options as far as time, days, and curricular. Getting to make your own schedule is one of the best things about college because you can have class as early as 8am or as late as 10pm. Whatever works for your schedule. The professors are great and always willing to help. If you need extra help outside of class, they are always there for you. Your advisor is also there to help you stay on track with graduation and will advise you what courses to take in order to graduate on time. But don't be afraid to take a fun course here and there, you do need electives!

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking for a community based campus, this is the place to go. There is always some sort of trip or entertainment going on on the weekends. There are lots of different classes here that you wouldn't normally take. For example: Ancient Mysteries, is a class about myth busting. And the staff/professors are great.

    In three sentences

Central has a great community of students and staff. There are a lot of opportunities to be had here if you know where to look. There's always something going on, whether it be a trip or a show, etc.

    What to do for fun

There are a slew of clubs for students to join. The school is only ten minutes away from downtown Hartford, which is great for bar hopping.

    Food and Dining

It's like every other school dining hall. It becomes old and tiring to eat the same food day in, day out.

    Dorm Life

Some of the dorms are pretty nice, but there are also awful dorms. Fortunately, even in the bad dorms, the students are friendly, making dorm life pretty great.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is extremely important and enforced with 24 hour police monitoring, and emergency buttons all around campus. Not only are the police there they will give you a ride to the other side of campus at night time if you're alone or with a group.

    Greek Life

Greek life is not overly large at Central, but they are very apparent. The fraternities hold various events on campus and involve students in their events. While the sororities are apparent they prefer to take a more classy approach and give back to the community.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities on campus become very apparent. The club fair that happens every semester is the best place to come out and find your niche. Clubs are a strong threshold to campus life and finding something new.

Central is great for all types of students. If you're a quiet person who loves a good book, or a lively social butterfly Central has the facilities for all. Central has a very strong athlete life. Everywhere you turn you will see and athlete of some sort, whether it be track, football, swimming and diving, or the basketball team. Supporting our athletes is what we do, and it sure is a lot of fun doing it.

    Bang for the buck

Central has some amazing historical buildings and a lovely campus. The facilities are up to par for what you pay, and look absolutely stunning all year round. I definitely think my money is worth what I am getting out of CCSU

    What to do for fun

Most people find it hard to have fun in college. Central offers so many clubs and programs that there is never a dull moment. One also cant forget about the many sports games that go on around campus all year long.

    Food and Dining

The food at Central is one for the books. Although they offer dining on campus there are many outside source within walking distance that also deliver, some until 2am. The dining hall offers a wide variety of foods and has international food at least once a week.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is incredible. The atmosphere of living in a dorm is a memory I will cherish for life. I have made so many life long friends from living in the dorms and not only did I meet my best friend in the dorms I also picked up a second family.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are as to be expected for a college, but there is always enough time to fit everything into your schedule. Classes are challenging yet fun, and the friends you make in your classes will stay your friends for many years after you graduate. The professors are extremely helpful and always put students first.

    Tips for prospective students

Seriously consider CCSU as your college choice. You get the best of both worlds, sports, and academics. Definitely don't brush over this school as there are twists and turns on your journey that only you can uncover by attending. This is not just another state school. This is a capable yet entertaining fine institution.

    In three sentences

CCSU is a thriving institution with opportunities for all. They have an extensive list of majors to chose from, and the college atmosphere is extremely lively and positive. CCSU is definitely a place I call home.

    Campus Safety

The campus seems safe for the most part of security available on campus. You still need to be careful in the parking garages especially at night.

    Greek Life

I don't know or have any comments about the Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs in the school and many sports teams although not the best sports teams in the state compared to UConn.

Great for these types of students

Its a great for students that are serious about attending college and graduating a degree. The students at central are not as social compared to many of the other colleges.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't know of any unusual traditions on this campus and I have been attending this school for years.

    What to do for fun

I live off campus but I go out to the movies and go to the gym. Other students party and visit the capital which is 15 minutes away.

    Food and Dining

The school has a diner inside of the student center but I have never purchased anything from it. There are many other options available in close proximity such as Dunkin Donuts, Chinese, and other fast food chains.

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived in the dorms but have been inside them. The dorms are regular and nothing really fancy about them. Some students have parties and keep their dorm messy but its pretty average for a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The school grading system is average but the professors seem to grade tougher than other schools I have attended. You have to work very hard to maintain a 4.0 average and you may and most likely will run into a very tough professor.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is good on the educational, business, and engineering prospects. I would recommend a different school for students wanting to major in a medical field. The courses offer at central on a medical stand point is not comparable to schools like UConn.

    In three sentences

Central is a very good school to attend and I would have to say the best for the area. The location is very good and close to the capital and shopping centers. You will be proud to earn a degree from this school.

    Campus Safety

Nothing bad has happened here and there is campus police everywhere.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs, and if there isnt one that you want to be in, you can make your own.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One great unusual tradition that happens randomly on campus is a One-Ton-Sunday, where you go outside the student center and eat a bunch of free ice cream, just because you can.

    Bang for the buck

It's a little expensive to dorm here with the size of our rooms, which are really small, but other then that i think I get my monies worth.

    What to do for fun

There are many activities to do on campus and many great facilities. You can go to the student center and go to Breakers, a pool and video game room, and there are always things going on around campus.

    Food and Dining

The food is decent. It's not disgusting and they usually have some variety in the North Side dinning area in Memorial Hall, South Side is usually the same thing with one thing different every day.

    Dorm Life

Everyone is so nice in my dorm, being Catharine Beecher Hall. You can just walk up to someone and say hi and have a long conversation with them. All the upperclassmen are really cool and helpful if you ask for it.

    Academic Rigor

There are deffinetly some classes harder then others. It all depends on your learning style and the way you take your classes, be it laid back or super serious.

    Tips for prospective students

Warning: Dorm rooms are really small. The School is nice, people are very nice as well, and you'll like it here. Definitely find a club to join, and if they have nothing that you like, the school loves when new clubs are made by us students and run by us. Teachers really care about us and actually talk to us as human beings and equals rather then as if we are below them.

    In three sentences

It is a very beautiful school. The administration and all aspects of the school actually cares about it's students and wants them to succeed. Decent food.

    Campus Safety

I rate this 5 stars because recently, on November 4th to be specific, we had our first college lock down. It was shown on national news and I know I could not have done a better job myself if I were the law enforcement officials. Everyone who was involved in protecting the college students and the college's faculty did a fantastic job. Our campus security was all over this and it's thanks to them that other law enforcement officials were notified.

    What to do for fun

For fun most people enjoy hanging out at the student center on campus. There are a lot of people who tend to hang around and play video games or just chat. Also, there is the option to go to parties that are hosted around campus on Thursday nights.

    Food and Dining

There is plenty of food in the cafeteria and plenty of options to choose from. The people who work in the cafeteria do a great job of maintaining the place. I only wish the price to eat there was a little bit cheaper. $9 to get in is a little overpriced in my opinion.

    Dorm Life

For the most part the dorm life is great and clean, but it is not perfect. I am a commuter and from what I hear, it seems like there are plenty of shy people on campus. Freshmen especially are guilty of this. Everyone needs to start communicating with each other a little more and I guarantee it'll make the dorm life even more fun.

    Academic Rigor

The professors here are great, at least the ones I've been exposed to so far. Many go by their syllabuses, so it's not hard to get lost in the classes. Each day of the week I am learning something new. Everyone is treated fairly when it comes to grading.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're deciding on coming to CCSU, make sure you're used to seeing a variety of different cultures, races or ethnicities. CCSU is just like any other college, there is no such thing as an easy college. This one challenges everyone equally. Make sure to attend with an open mind and be ready to make some new friends.

    In three sentences

It's a great school in terms of adapting easily to the life around campus. There are plenty of friendly, but shy people. There is definitely some culture shock here.

    Food and Dining

    Not bad.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorm, but I've heard nothing but good things from friends who do.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on the classes you take. There are definitely really easy classes that you just have to show up for and put a minimal amount of effort.

    Tips for prospective students

Take notes, show up to class, read the material, and study.

    In three sentences

I enjoy going to CCSU. It's not a very expensive school so no one has a stuck-up rich-kid attitude, which is refreshing. I wish there were more courses/class times available and they definitely need more professors.

Great for these types of students

Commuting to and from this college is really nice because there is plenty of parking for vehicles, there is no need to purchase a food plan, especially if you have food allergies because the selection in the on campus dining hall is limited until noon.

    Bang for the buck

Although this is a four year university, the teachers are involved in your academic life like they were when i was at a two year college. They are willing to work around your other classes so you do not end up with four tests on the same day. As long as you ask the professor nicely and accommodate the professor with assignments, the professor will help the students out and move around test/exam dates.

    What to do for fun

There are many off campus sites that can be reached within ten minutes. The mall is only ten minutes away and there are busses that can take you to and from the mall. There are plenty of places to eat from, besides the on campus dining halls, and variety makes life interesting.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are there to push their students and make sure they are learning pertinent information. The classes begin to tie all together after your freshman year and your degree becomes incorporated into every class you take. Pay attention and go to class because what the professor says is important to understand the reading and makes remembering the information easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to fill out the FAFSA before april or else you can become ineligible to receive grants based on academia. The school has numerous scholarships so please take the time to apply. Last, buy college books online because they are much cheaper through the internet than at the bookstore.

    In three sentences

The college is a commuter friendly atmosphere. The teachers are willing to help students, before or after class, if they have any questions. The interface for the class with blackboard learn is user friendly and is easy to access everything that the teacher/instructor posts.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorm only one semester (I got married and started my family) and found it to be an amazing experience. Always had fun with all the room mates, had great activities and the best residents.

    Academic Rigor

There are rape/emergency lights around campus just in case. There have been rapes/incidents on campus, but police cars patrol regularly.

    Clubs and Activities

Most are run by students without supervision so it's a hit or miss.

Great for these types of students

Generally students are there to study and learn. The students there on sports scholarships tended to have more parties. Depends on the dorm. Computers are upgraded every year. Great for Engineering!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

people sometimes just take walks at night. There are a few party houses near campus. Also a bar within walking distance.

    What to do for fun

There's a park across the street. The dorms sometimes have a meeting/game nights. for off campus, there's devil's den.

Gym and pool on campus. There are little carnivals and a game day. There are the traditional rallies for sports. Most people are respectful. Lounge area fills up quick somedays and others it's dead silent. Don't forget your student ID when you take a shower!

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the courses and professor. Just have to say for the anthropology department professor perry is the worst professor I've ever had in terms of conduct. He would berate students and be mad if you are not a minority student. So much so that people would drop his class or have to talk about how awful the white race is and give presentations about how black people hate white people and it's justified. He goes on about how white people should just know when they see a black person that the black person hates you for being white. He wasn't being sarcastic and he made sure the auditorium, where his class was held, knew it.

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the campus before hand. Make sure to get good professors when available or at least go to the top rated ones for advise. If you don't live on campus, stay for thursday nights for 10pm devil's den to make friends. Or hang out in the Student Central after class. Most people are too stressed during class.

    In three sentences

It has no parking during midday classes. Most opportunities you'll have to find for yourself, but advisors will be there to help once you've found them. It is a must to go to rateyourprofessor.com for this school. Teachers range from extraordinary to down right awful and racist.
