Great for these types of students

I believe that Cerro Coso is great for the types of students who are still unsure of what they would like to do with their life or aren't sure yet if they could succeed in a large Univeristy where the teachers won't ever even know your name!

    Tips for prospective students

I advise new students to come in with an open mind to different things. If you haven't ever drawn in a class before then take drawing 1, or learn a new language. School shouldn't just be limited to your future goals. You need to throw in a little variety every now and then! Take some fun courses!

    Bang for the buck

Cerro Coso offers many different types of courses and compared to other two year colleges, the tuition is very cheap being only $26 a unit. I think that we students are getting a great deal for our education.

    Am enjoying being here

The Cerro Coso campus has multiple areas where you can just lay in the grass and read a book or sit in the student center and play a game of pool with friends. The atmosphere and enviroment of the campus is very friendly, and everyone here is polite and kind.

    Am learning a lot

Cerro Coso's Professors are kind and caring people who have the students needs in mind. I have never had a teacher who isn't helpful and most of them will take their own time to help their student succeed. I have learned so much by attending Cerro Coso and because of it, I will be ready to move on and go to University afterwards

    What to do for fun

Sports and other recreational activities around Ridgecrest.

    Academic Rigor

    Excellent. Finals? Tough.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you apply for all of the available grants and scholarships that are being offered. Though the classes are not that expensive, it helps when you are on a fixed budget or not employed.

    In three sentences

I am currently enrolled in their chemistry classes and the course material is fantastic. The teacher is knowledgeable and makes the instruction enjoyable and fun. I am taking all the chemistry classes that this college offers.

    Campus Safety

CCCC is a very safe college. We have a couple security guards who meander the hallways. I have never had any issues up there, and neither has anyone I know etc. CCCC is a friendly campus, and the the students are there to learn not to harm others.

    Greek Life

Phi Theta Kappa is on campus for honors students.

    Clubs and Activities

Slightly lacking in these, but I am not really one to search them out.

Great for these types of students

Students who want an inexpensive place to live and want to get through community college cheaply and at the same time know they will be prepared for their junior year at University once they transfer.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Just outside of the campus is a garden with a cool little fish pond. There is lots of hiking around the campus.

    Bang for the buck

CCCC has very inexpensive tuition because it is a community college. The staff is wonderful and the campus is friendly and safe. Living in Ridgecrest is inexpensive and there are jobs on the base for those who are willing to fight for them.

    What to do for fun

Clubs, sports. Ridgecrest itself doesn't have much to do besides bowling and swimming, but in the summer heat swimming is as good as it gets! There is a library in town (and at the college--its huge) as well as a museum. About half an hour away are some cool sites like red rock canyon or fossil falls.

    Food and Dining

Pony Expresso and the book nook have food, but most of it is expensive. Packing lunch is a good idea at CC.

    Dorm Life

CCCC does not offer dorms, but rent in Ridgecrest is exceedingly low for California. Rent of 500-600 for a nice apartment is commonplace here.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the course, it can be a breeze or it could be quite difficult. CCCC offers courses for transfer--basic like speech and How to be a better student--to pre-calculus and English 102 (Critical thinking), as well as a myriad of other courses, even with the vast budget cuts over the past years.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep in contact with your counselors and status of the courses you are trying to transfer from. Because there is no real standardization of courses in California it is up to you and the counselor to make sure you stay on track according to the college you wish to transfer to. Take advantage of the free tutoring program in the LRC. There is no excuse not to have a tutor when its FREE.

    In three sentences

A wonderful campus, set in Ridgecrest, California. The professors and staff are eager to help students succeed in order to transfer, obtain an A.A. or a vocational degree. As well as free tutoring offered at the college, most of the professors will gladly aid their students without batting an eyelash.

    Bang for the buck

Cerro Coso Community College is a great opportunity, the cost of attending Cerro Coso along with the cost of books is extremely low.

    What to do for fun

The Eastern Sierra's are beautiful. There are a lot of hiking, climbing, canoeing, and fishing opportunities available. During the winter skiing and snowboarding is quite possible.

    Food and Dining

Cerro Coso has two vending machines, so there is not a lot available food-wise on the campus.

    Academic Rigor

The professors on campus, as well as the professors online will consistently challenge you. The expect you to engage and participate. The professors do their best to make themselves available for you, whether it is to proofread your English essay or to take the time to explain a particular painting technique one-on-one.

    Tips for prospective students

Discipline yourself-do not take the easy way out! Extra credit is great, and always challenge yourself. Cerro Coso can really help prepare you for a four-year college later on. Most, if not every, class is transferable.

    In three sentences

The professors at Cerro Coso Community College are kind, and always willing to go above and beyond to help each student. The Bishop campus is lovely and boasts a particularly nice art room. Cerro Coso's online classes are effective and engaging as well.

    Bang for the buck

Cerro Coso is really cheap and they have many programs that help with books and classes; and with the teachers Cerro Coso provides students should leave with a well grasp knowledge of the classes they have taken.

    What to do for fun

Cerro Coso has many clubs. One of my favorites is eSports giving all the people who play video games a place to talk about new upcoming video games and a area for us to compete with each other. Also, Ridgecrest is a small town that provides many outdoors adventures.

    Food and Dining

Cerro Coso has their very own coffee shop called Pony Espresso providing the students with refreshments and meals throughout the day. We do have to pay, but it is very cheap for a quick meal. There is also a bookstore and vending machines that provide snacks and drinks.

    Dorm Life

Cerro Coso does not provide dorms, but Ridgecrest is a small community with very low rents. Also, Cerro Coso helps students who are seeking a job to help themselves financially.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers in Cerro Coso hold a high standard. They tell you from the beginning of class how the semester is going to go providing us with the knowledge that this class might be tough so we must prepare. There are teachers though that try to teach the lessons with the best of their abilities in order for us to pass.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for all students in any college is don't slack off. College can be difficult if students make it difficult. If we postpone assignments to the last minute then of course the material will be difficult to learn.

    In three sentences

Cerro Coso is a perfect community college for someone who needs teachers that can provide more one on one sessions. There are teachers that truly try to make the material understandable creating them to be student teachers. Another important factor is that we have teachers who actually work in the field in which they teach providing more intriguing lessons

    Campus Safety

There are always a couple campus security guards walking around constantly during school hours and even after making sure nothing strange is happening. Furthermore, they are always on call in case of an emergency and are very helpful in their responses to any question you may have.

    Greek Life

Coso doesn't have any Greek theme that I can think of.

    Clubs and Activities

Variety of sports are offered each year, as well as clubs. These activities are a good way to meet new people and do volunteer service as well.

Great for these types of students

Cerro Coso is great for the students who are trying to transition into the real world slowly but surely. It's perfect for students who are still struggling with deciding majors because it offers a wide variety of subjects to explore. It's also good for students who know exactly what they want to do because they can easily take care of transfer units needed at an easy cost that is well worth it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Cerro Coso has a fountain in the middle of the campus which is actually a nice quiet place to study at. It gives a peaceful and safe feel of the environment.

    Bang for the buck

Each unit costs $46 and for the courses and the overall quality of the professors and courses, the cost is well worth it as long as you put in the effort and motivation to do everything that is assigned.

    What to do for fun

Cerro Coso has a fair selection of clubs that anyone can join: lots of which deal with directly helping the community become a better place. The college offers a few different sports that students can participate in if they wish. In addition, they have a variety of seminars that are meant to help students with school work, skill building, resume making, etc...

    Food and Dining

There are about 3-4 snack/drink vending machines that offer chips, candies, and various drinks. In additon to those, Cerro Coso has an excellent kitchen with a Pony Expresso Coffee attatchment. Cerro Coso's food options are limited but they serve fairly good breakfast crossaints and good lunch salads and sandwiches.

    Dorm Life

Because Cerro Coso is a community college, it doesn't have dorms. Most students who attend Coso, are those who right out of high school and are looking to transfer in two years; therefore, are living with their parents. If not that, then they are living on their own or with their respective families.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on which class you are in and the professor, the academic rigor can be anywhere between the one star and five. Generally speaking, the classes that are the hardest are the one with the best professors and the biggest chance of learning and enjoying yourself while learning. No matter what the class, be sure to do your best - after all, it's your money and your life.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a student looking to enroll at Cerro Coso I would advice you to do so but we aware that you are completely in charge of what you do. I would talk to a counselor and set up a long-term education plan so you know that you are on the right track to transfer or graduate. Take classes that you need and be focused and motivated, but at the same time, have fun and enjoy yourself.

    In three sentences

Cerro Coso Community college is a great transition school whether you are looking to transfer straight to a four-year university or are just looking to take care of your general education requirements. Although the selection of courses available are limited due to budgets, the courses that are offered are extremely beneficial and informative. Not only are the professors and counselors helpful, Cerro Coso provides many opportunities for free tutoring, skill-building seminars, and other great services meant to directly serve the student.
