Great for these types of students

I believe that Cerro Coso is great for the types of students who are still unsure of what they would like to do with their life or aren't sure yet if they could succeed in a large Univeristy where the teachers won't ever even know your name!

    Tips for prospective students

I advise new students to come in with an open mind to different things. If you haven't ever drawn in a class before then take drawing 1, or learn a new language. School shouldn't just be limited to your future goals. You need to throw in a little variety every now and then! Take some fun courses!

    Bang for the buck

Cerro Coso offers many different types of courses and compared to other two year colleges, the tuition is very cheap being only $26 a unit. I think that we students are getting a great deal for our education.

    Am enjoying being here

The Cerro Coso campus has multiple areas where you can just lay in the grass and read a book or sit in the student center and play a game of pool with friends. The atmosphere and enviroment of the campus is very friendly, and everyone here is polite and kind.

    Am learning a lot

Cerro Coso's Professors are kind and caring people who have the students needs in mind. I have never had a teacher who isn't helpful and most of them will take their own time to help their student succeed. I have learned so much by attending Cerro Coso and because of it, I will be ready to move on and go to University afterwards

    What to do for fun

Sports and other recreational activities around Ridgecrest.

    Academic Rigor

    Excellent. Finals? Tough.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you apply for all of the available grants and scholarships that are being offered. Though the classes are not that expensive, it helps when you are on a fixed budget or not employed.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

CCCC is a very safe college. We have a couple security guards who meander the hallways. I have never had any issues up there, and neither has anyone I know etc. CCCC is a friendly campus, and the the students are there to learn not to harm others.

    Greek Life

Phi Theta Kappa is on campus for honors students.

    Clubs and Activities

Slightly lacking in these, but I am not really one to search them out.

Great for these types of students

Students who want an inexpensive place to live and want to get through community college cheaply and at the same time know they will be prepared for their junior year at University once they transfer.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Just outside of the campus is a garden with a cool little fish pond. There is lots of hiking around the campus.

    Bang for the buck

CCCC has very inexpensive tuition because it is a community college. The staff is wonderful and the campus is friendly and safe. Living in Ridgecrest is inexpensive and there are jobs on the base for those who are willing to fight for them.

    What to do for fun

Clubs, sports. Ridgecrest itself doesn't have much to do besides bowling and swimming, but in the summer heat swimming is as good as it gets! There is a library in town (and at the college--its huge) as well as a museum. About half an hour away are some cool sites like red rock canyon or fossil falls.

    Food and Dining

Pony Expresso and the book nook have food, but most of it is expensive. Packing lunch is a good idea at CC.

    Dorm Life

CCCC does not offer dorms, but rent in Ridgecrest is exceedingly low for California. Rent of 500-600 for a nice apartment is commonplace here.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the course, it can be a breeze or it could be quite difficult. CCCC offers courses for transfer--basic like speech and How to be a better student--to pre-calculus and English 102 (Critical thinking), as well as a myriad of other courses, even with the vast budget cuts over the past years.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep in contact with your counselors and status of the courses you are trying to transfer from. Because there is no real standardization of courses in California it is up to you and the counselor to make sure you stay on track according to the college you wish to transfer to. Take advantage of the free tutoring program in the LRC. There is no excuse not to have a tutor when its FREE.

    In three sentences

A wonderful campus, set in Ridgecrest, California. The professors and staff are eager to help students succeed in order to transfer, obtain an A.A. or a vocational degree. As well as free tutoring offered at the college, most of the professors will gladly aid their students without batting an eyelash.

Great for these types of students

Great for motivated students, those who wish to go back to school, and those who aren't quite sure what direction they want their college career to head in.

    Bang for the buck

Cerro Coso Community College is a great opportunity, the cost of attending Cerro Coso along with the cost of books is extremely low.

    What to do for fun

The Eastern Sierra's are beautiful. There are a lot of hiking, climbing, canoeing, and fishing opportunities available. During the winter skiing and snowboarding is quite possible.

    Food and Dining

Cerro Coso has two vending machines, so there is not a lot available food-wise on the campus.

    Academic Rigor

The professors on campus, as well as the professors online will consistently challenge you. The expect you to engage and participate. The professors do their best to make themselves available for you, whether it is to proofread your English essay or to take the time to explain a particular painting technique one-on-one.

    Tips for prospective students

Discipline yourself-do not take the easy way out! Extra credit is great, and always challenge yourself. Cerro Coso can really help prepare you for a four-year college later on. Most, if not every, class is transferable.

    In three sentences

The professors at Cerro Coso Community College are kind, and always willing to go above and beyond to help each student. The Bishop campus is lovely and boasts a particularly nice art room. Cerro Coso's online classes are effective and engaging as well.
