Great for these types of students

Cleveland State would be great for students who: -love big cities, -want to experience diversity, -are serious about academics, and -like to save money!

    Tips for prospective students

If you decide on Cleveland State, prepare to get a preview of the real world. From seeing different types of cultures, to having to make my own decisions, Cleveland State has helped me to become more of an adult than when I was before I started college. Do not expect to see the same kind of attitudes in college as you saw in high school.

    Bang for the buck

I am in the Honors Program, which pays full tuition, class fees, and books. The Honors Program only requires that you keep a 3.5 GPA. This really helps my family financially. The only payment needed to pay is room and board. Also, Cleveland State has the second-lowest tuition rate of all the universities of Ohio, which is relieving.

    Am enjoying being here

Cleveland State has many activities to be involved in, from Student Government to recreational sports. Every Wednesday, CAB (the Campus Activities Board) usually has free giveaways, ranging from food to mugs. The campus even sends emails about events happening on or around campus. I am happy that as a student, I can get into athletic events for free. Also, downtown Cleveland is a great place to be because there is always something to do. With my Viking card, I can get discounts to activities happening around the city.

    Am learning a lot

Cleveland State has proved to me that you do not need to go to an Ivy League School to be challenged. When Cleveland State says that their students experience engaged learning, they really are telling the truth. The professors really want you to understand what they are teaching, which I personally enjoy.

Great for these types of students

-City-lovers -Adventure-lovers -Commuters -Those who want to be close to home Another thing to remember about college - you get out of it what you put in. You make the experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Like stated above, APPLY EARLY for scholarships and to the Honors/Scholars program. I am in the Scholars program and they have lots of counseling and advice available if needed. Just remember this, the faculty at Cleveland State University is ready to help YOU. If any of you have questions, just e-mail/message me and I'll try to help out as best as I can. Good luck with everything!

    Bang for the buck

Other than the school having a great learning environment, it has a lower tuition than most schools out there. While this wasn't the main factor that pulled me into the school, it definitely helps that you and your family won't have to worry as much about getting money for school. On top of that, the scholarships that are available are abundant. One word of advice with all of the scholarships though - APPLY EARLY! Being early with things, especially when it comes to academics, is one of the best things to do.

    Am enjoying being here

Everything here from the campus activities, to the food, to the sports, to the classes equals one thing - stellar. Growing up in a town close to Cleveland pushed me away from going to the school. However, I decided to apply due to their accredited engineering program. I am glad I decided to apply here. Not only was the application process not intimidating, but the transition from high school to the college lifestyle was much smoother due to the help they give. There are so many opportunities to be yourself and to meet new people, giving you a chance to make lifelong friends and create lifelong passions. It also helps that the campus and people are all very diverse. Everyday brings something new to the table.

    Am learning a lot

All right all of you incoming freshmen, listen up! Cleveland State University is a GREAT school. I am shocked at how much effort is put into helping out the students. This is only my second year in college, however, the professors that I have had so far have all been amazing. I feel that everyday I'm getting close with the faculty which is great because I can one day become a colleague of theirs. (Which would be a great.) Of course, some classes are much harder than others and a lot of work has to be put in in order to make the grade, but to work hard and have it all pay off is definitely worth it. There is always a lot of material to learn, but just keep focused and you'll come out on top.

    Bang for the buck

For those planning to live on campus, its a truly amazing experiance. There's always something going on somewhere from Glow in the Dark parties in the Rec to breakfast at night during finals week. In the classroom I felt that my professors wanted each student to succeed and for the most part they knew me by name, although its a huge school.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is amazing. For me, it was a culture shock coming form a small town, but it teaches and challenges one in in a very exciting way.

    Am learning a lot

I love the professors i had this past semester. Each class was exciting and engaging. There was never a dual moment. When i had questions they were answered.

Great for these types of students

CSU is a great place for students who want a standout education, to be involved in a close knit community of people, and who want to have a good time.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions! When you go on your college visit, ask students who go there what their opinion is. They will give you the real details, telling you where to go for a good bite, where you can meet a lot of friends, which teachers to avoid, which teachers to aim for, where to get extra help, etc. Those personal questions are ones you need to ask to see if the college is right for you!

    Bang for the buck

The great thing about Cleveland is how much you get for the little you pay. The education is great, filled with professors who really care. On top of that, the amount of food you get is a great perk! The dorms are probably the nicest you could imagine, with a lot of space. It seems like CSU has some of the nicest facilities while you don't pay as much as you would for other colleges. On top of that, Cleveland offers a plethora of scholarships for those who can't afford it!

    Am enjoying being here

One thing I love about CSU is how incredibly open all the students are to one another. With so many clubs and sports teams, it is easy to find a group of people who share the same likes as you. A very diverse place to be, and just outside of downtown, there is always something going on. Cleveland has a variety of people, all looking for a fulfilling education and a fun time. I wouldn't go to any other school.

    Am learning a lot

While CSU may not be the most widely talked about school, what it lacks in notoriety, it gains in education. While I am only going into my sophomore year, my first year has had so many engaging professors, all willing to help each student gain knowledge and grow. Most professors seemed to really care, and many pushed me to think in ways I never would have before. On top of that, being an athlete, all of the teachers were incredibly willing to accommodate to my schedule and help me learn the most I could with my time restrictions.

Great for these types of students

It's great for students who can't afford Ivy League schools but still are looking for a nice college to study at. The campus is wonderful, either for commuting or dorming students. It offers a variety of Majors and Minors and the staff is so welcoming.

    Bang for the buck

While I am commuting, I find the tuition very appealing. Most financial aid will cover the cost of tuition and the payment plans are easy to follow and affordable.

    Will enjoy being here

It is so beautiful here, the district is nice, the campus is clean and very professional. There are multiple police forces ready to assist students. I feel very safe, as a 95 pound and 5 foot tall white girl, to be going to a school in downtown Cleveland.

    Will learn a lot

The campus is beautiful and the guidance office and counselors are so helpful. All of my AP credits transferred and going into my first year of college, I already have enough credits to be counted as a Sophomore! It's a wonderful school and I'm so confident in my ability to do well and still have a great education!

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is ALL AROUND! When walking through the hall from one part of the college to another, you'll probably run into several officers. They're nice, kind and very helpful. We even have a safety escort service that will escort you whenever you want, wherever you want on campus. If something occurs, the police, video camera's and other protective services are on it to take care of the situation pronto, making sure that every one is ok. This in mind, be aware that this college is located downtown, with all different types of people and YOU are your first line of defense. Be aware of your surroundings, the people around you and walk with a friend after dark.

    Greek Life

GREEK LIFE is Big. They have so many bloody parties, wow.

    Clubs and Activities

We have HUNDREDS of clubs! From the Chinese Club (I'm the President of it, by the way), to the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) to the Anime Club, to the Tango Club, to the Universal Martial Artist Club. We are an all encompassing school. If you have an interest in something, there's probably a club doing it. And if not, you can start it!

Great for these types of students

Students who like to DO STUFF, hang with friends, become great Leaders and LEARN will most likely have a GREAT time at CSU.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual? The Unusual is usual around here. Hahaha. Nothing is really considered unusual. I'm the President of the Chinese Club, and much to the chagrin to everyone who finds out, I don't fit the stereotype. We've had a Gay/Lesbian fashion show, two I believe. We are a pretty open college. If you have the power and desire to do something good, do it and people will join you.

    Bang for the buck

Being a Student gets you $15.00 FRONT ROW tickets to the Hannah Theatre, FREE ADMISSION to the Botanical Gardens and the Natural History Museum as well as discounted admission to other museums and theaters. Not to mention all of the FREE TICKETS that students get tossed at them via the Student Life Department.

    What to do for fun

What is there not to do? The Campus Activities Board (CAB) has all kinds of events, from Glow in the Dark Golf, to Movie nights ranging from Romantic Films (Twilight) to Family Fun Movies (Toy Story III). We also have so many different Clubs at CSU and sources to support them that there is usually always something going on! We have plays at the local theatre and are situated right down town in the heart beat of Theatre Culture.

    Food and Dining

You can eat at the school cafeteria if you wish. They are pretty festive and it's a fun convenient place to eat, meet your friends and enjoy the company of new friends.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is FUN! Your friends are always around you, parties are right down the hall and the bills are paid inadvance...HOWEVER! Some of the dorms, I feel are a bit over priced and depending on which dorm you chose (for we have MANY OPTIONS), you may be sharing your room with another student, which is ok, though for the price, I think a bit more privacy is good. In my dorm room actually, it was just myself and my girlfriend <3 . The heating was excellent and whenever anything was broken or not working right, they were there to fix it almost immediately. CSU prides itself on having safe, functional dorms. Good stuff. BWARE: If you do house in the dorm, they will automatically add you to the meal plan...

    Academic Rigor

As the classes enter the 300 range and above, you'll feel as if you are in ph. D classes. It's goof though. The teachers provide so many different resources to learn, the only thing that hamper your success is you.

    Tips for prospective students

When you come, research the type of college you're going to enroll in, Monte Ahuja College of Business, College of Science, etc and see what opportunities await you in your field. The professors here are very good and will go the distance in providing opportunities to students who show they really want to succeed.

    In three sentences

Cleveland State University is Full of opportunity and people who want you to succeed. CSU has so many student Clubs and activities going on that you may wonder if attend fun events might be a class. CSU also has wickedly awesome discounts with local museums and theaters, getting students into the best seats and places for very nominal prices, if not for free.

what's great about cleveland state is that it's located downtown, and with your bus pass you can get to just about anywhere in the city. on the east side there's museums, in public square there's restaurants and clubs, tower city has shopping, and lake erie is less than a mile away from campus. on campus there is an event somewhere happening almost every single day, where you can play games, eat free food, and win prizes.

    Food and Dining

the food on campus is great. if you like pizza, you'll love cleveland state, as there are three different places to get pizza within walking distance from campus. this also goes for mexican, as there are also three different mexican restaurants on campus. everywhere you go there's a place to get food, and i've never had a bad meal in the two years i've been there.

    Dorm Life

i commute to campus, but cleveland state university and the cleveland rta have an agreement where you can ride the bus and train system for free by paying $25 that is already lumped into your tuition. it's great for getting around the city and surrounding areas. when i have been in the dorms, every one has been very nice, as fenn tower has been remodeled in the last 10 years and euclid commons was just recently built within the last two years.

    Academic Rigor

all of the classes i have taken have pushed me to be more proactive in educating myself on the subjects we are learning about. some classes have been easier than others due to differences in teachers' styles, but all the teachers are there to help you and will do what they can to educate you better.

    Tips for prospective students

as with any school, studying and knowing the material is important to succeed in any class. don't buy your books in the bookstore, find them online after the class has started so you will know if it's necessary to even buy the book. show up to class, and if you have a laptop, take notes using it. it's neater, faster, and you can engage in discussions more, but don't stray away to facebook.

    In three sentences

cleveland state university and the people affiliated with the university have been great. the staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and if you're having problems there's almost always a place where you can go for help. i would highly recommend cleveland state to anyone considering it.

    Campus Safety

Because CSU is a downtown campus, there are a number of safety concerns. Over the past year there were quite a few criminals on campus. But campus police apprehended and arrested every one of them. Campus police are very aware of what is going on. They are also easy to access and very helpful. If you ever have a problem just turn to them. Also, if you are ever alone at night, just call the free 24/7 campus escort service to walk you to your dorm or car. It's definitely worth it.

    Greek Life

There is an active Greek Life community here. And they make themselves known! You don't even need to search for them. just walk into the student center and you'll see all the banners. Just choose a fraternity or sorority and become a part of it all. It's great fun and a built-in social group. So why wouldn't you do it?

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 150 student organizations. Every semester begins with a student organization fair, so come to those and see what interests you. There are clubs and organizations for everything from the math club to the video game club.

Great for these types of students

Self-motivated and local students would do well here. If you're going to college for the party scene instead of the academics, this is not the place for you. If you are going to college to get a job or go on to grad school, CSU will definitely help you do that.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a campus pride week where every college (there are 8) makes and wears T-shirts and participates in relay races and the like. It's publicized a lot, but the activities all take place during class time, so not many people show up. If you do go, it's a ton of fun.

    Bang for the buck

For a public university it's so expensive here! Almost no one qualifies for the scholarships that they advertise here. There are loan options, but who wants to go into debt starting in just the first year of college. If you do qualify for a scholarship, be careful: they only cover the bare minimum of credits and tuition. So you will have to pay out-of pocket if you overload on credits, have academic fees, lab fees, and textbooks.

    What to do for fun

Be creative. There is an entire entertainment district just a few blocks from campus, and a wonderful music scene throughout the city. But not a whole lot of fun activities on campus. Not for lack of trying, though. The university does try to create and host fun events, but students generally don't show up. So if you want to have a great social life here, make it happen. You have to be very proactive about it. It's doable, but it requires a conscious effort.

    Food and Dining

The food here is great. There is an all-you-can-eat buffet every weekday and tons of restaurants on and around campus. You won't go hungry here.

    Dorm Life

Almost non-existent. There aren't many dorms here and most students commute. If you want to be in a fun dorm, make sure you have fun roommates.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are okay, but not too difficult. It certainly depends on the particular class and professor, but there are always tutoring options and office hours if you have trouble. There are enough options here that every student can succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Introduce yourself to the professor. You may be in a lecture with more than 200 students during your first semester. If you want the professor to know who you are you have to make that first introduction. That will open up so many doors for you.

    In three sentences

The motto at CSU is Engaged Learning but it's more than just a sound byte. The professors here are very interested in their students' success. They go out of their way to help students and ensure that students do well.

    Campus Safety

Cleveland State is an urban university, and set on the borders of a major urban center. There are crimes, mostly theft by scumbags wandering onto the campus, but Cleveland State has its own police force that works with the city police.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty, and they seem to be well organized.

Great for these types of students

Cleveland State is great for those students on a budget or maybe who want to work part-time and still be able to attend college. And for the parents and those that work full-time, the schedules are extremely flexible and geared towards those in these situations.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have Mather Mansion, the former home of a local philanthropist who bequeathed his estate to Cleveland State.

    Bang for the buck

I would focus more on 'for the buck' than the 'bang'; Tuition is great in comparison to other State Universities and private schools, and from what I've heard, in certain departments the education is comparable.

    What to do for fun

There is a bar onsite and another on the outskirts of campus. Peabody's concert club is directly across the street and features all types of bands normally ranging from punk to metal (sorry to the alt/indie fans). Down the street is playhouse square, with plenty of shows playing that you can get discount tickets for. Ask a local about other theaters, clubs, and bars surrounding the college. Cleveland State has become much more involved with the student body, and plans activities that aren't terrible.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is alright, pretty much bar/american fare. In the area surrounding the campus is where to find good food. There is a small French bistro, the Asian Center is a few blocks away, and playhouse square is chocked full of great eateries for all of those fine folks that work in that district.

    Dorm Life

I have never stayed in the dorm, personally, but I've heard it is much improved due to the recent renovations.

    Academic Rigor

In certain colleges (or departments) on campus there are varying levels of academia. Keeping in mind that this is a State school, you will not be challenged as rigorously as maybe a private institution unless you are in the honors programs.

    Tips for prospective students

Know the mechanics of your degree field and find the right academic advisor. Also, there are more resources on campus than you may realize.

    In three sentences

Cleveland State University has direct connections to the city and its inner-workings, and graduating from this college gives plenty of networking options. Because it is a State school with practically open enrollment there is less discipline in the classroom, and remediation is now necessary. There are very involved professors, only a handful are there because of tenure and little else meaning that most are approachable and human.

    Campus Safety

The university is big on campus safety. The phone number is posted everywhere, plus you will always see the officers walking around the buildings and grounds. They offer an escort service for anyone walking later in the evening or to the parking garages who feels uncomfortable walking alone.

    Clubs and Activities

There are around 150-200 clubs on campus. Everything from the student government and campus activities board to volunteer organizations, academic clubs, and recreational clubs.

    Bang for the buck

The Art museum is free except for special exhibits. The Natural History museum and Botanical Gardens are free to current students. At Progressive Field you can get tickets for under $10. And some movie theaters offer student discounts on certain nights. But always keep watch for special events or packages the school might be offering at discounted rates.

    What to do for fun

There are alot of school groups that host events right on campus, most of which are free. Many of them also offer prizes or gifts. Playhouse Square is right at the edge of campus and offers plays, musicals, and operas; this is also where the Cleveland State drama department holds their shows. Downtown offers dining, comedy clubs, House of Blues, Indians games at Progressive Field, plus shopping and movie theaters at Tower City. The Wolstein Center right next to campus offers concerts and the men's and women's basketball games. Within 20 minutes you can also get to the Brown's stadium, the Science Center, the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame, the Art museum, Natual History musuem, Botanical Gardens, plus a variety of other places.

    Food and Dining

Most of the campus dining offers a good variety of freshly made food. The Marketplace (cafeteria) has three stations, each serving different types of food, plus a salad bar, cereal bar, sandwich bar, and ice cream bar. There are a couple of salad/sub places (including Quiznos), pizza, a campus bar that serves burgers, fries, wings, etc. A few small areas that serve coffee, muffins, bagels, and pre-made sandwiches. There is a campus restaurant that is open for lunch that serves freshly made meals, including soups, sandwiches, and a $5 menu from 2-4pm.

    Dorm Life

I live in dorms for older students so can't share much about the freshman dorms. There is a brand-new set of dorm buildings that were just completed last semester.

    Academic Rigor

While not every class you take will be difficult, this is college. Many of the professors either did, or still are, working in their respective fields. They bring alot of information to the table and expect you to take the work seriously, especially if the class is for your intended major.

    Tips for prospective students

Explore- there's so much to do without having to travel far. And keep a lookout for student discounts; many places have free days during the week or offer free/discounted prices to students. Ask questions and talk to other students, they will often have more information than the offices.

    In three sentences

Cleveland State works with local businesses providing internships, hosting job fairs, and scheduling resume and interview workshops. The university is working on going green with four rooftop gardens, a greenhouse, solar panels, and a wind turbine (we also just built one for Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians). Cleveland State also uses local products in the kitchens, has the drama department located at the Allen Threatre in Playhouse Square, and is only a ten minute ride away from University Circle which holds the Cleveland Art Museum, Natural History Museum, Botanical Gardens, plus much more.

This might be a concern to many because it is located in down town Cleveland, but I never felt unsafe. There are campus police all over, it is lite up everywhere, and there are emergency phones almost every block. You can also call for an escort service at anytime if you feel unsafe.

    Bang for the buck

    What to do for fun

There is so many things to do in the city, unlike in small college towns which are empty. There are many resturants, shops and more within walking distance and especially downtown. You can take the public transportation to many other places museums, parks, malls, shopping and more. There is never a lack of something to do in Cleveland.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall is okay! some days are better than others but there is normally something for everyone. But there are also other restaurants, shops, and fast food places on campus that you can use your meal plan at! They are so convenient and great for when you are on the go.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are the best dorms I have ever seen! They are like living in an apartment. There is so much privacy but there are a lot of activities to get involved in and to get to know the people in your dorm.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the classes I took were GenEds but i was still challenged especially because of the Honors Classes i took.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely get involved in the Community. If you can apply for the Honors Program it is very helpful! There are lots of clubs and intramural sports and more so get involved. It really helps to live on campus.

    In three sentences

I have loved my first year at Cleveland State. It is a nice, smaller academic community where you can meet lots of great people but in the bustling city. The city is awesome and the atmosphere at Cleveland State is what I love the most.

    Campus Safety

The area is a little scary at dark. It's perfectly safe if you take precautions--always walk in twos from dorms to the main campus, and call campus security to take you around campus at night.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who weren't so good in high school and deserve a second chance at a great education. Also amazing for art students! If you can't afford CIA or are going into theatre, come here!

    Bang for the buck

For in-state students, you can't go wrong.

    What to do for fun

Check out Bar Uno, or events at the Playhouse, or sporting events.

    Food and Dining

The food here is good and healthy with a fair amount of options for a small campus, though I wish they had little signs to say which foods are vegan and which are not.

    Dorm Life

Cleveland State's dorms are #1 in the country--even the old ones! They're big with private bathrooms.

    Academic Rigor

They're working on it. Classes aren't easy, but they could be harder. Many programs are in flux right now as the school graduates from being a bonafide community college to a full-blown university of status.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be deterred by the ill-informed academic financial advisers at the All-in-1. There are some good ones out there, and most of the teachers are really wonderful when you fight your way through the bureaucratic nightmare. Also, you will live past that awful orientation they make you do before you can attend and be able to schedule classes the way YOU want to at home. (Don't forget to schedule it early so you get the classes you want). Do embrace the location, and activities available to you--the Cleveland area is great for more than just entertainment. The businesses offer awesome co-ops!

    In three sentences

This school isn't what it used to be--it's so much better! Don't be scared of the bad reputation it and the city get. It's growing into an amazing neighborhood again, and the school gets notably better every year.

    Campus Safety

Being in downtown Cleveland, there are many things to be aware of. However, the university does a very good job combating issues found in an urban area. Recently, many more street lights and emergency phones on the side walks have been installed. Also, you can call the escort service provided for the campus security 24/7. This is a free service that is available for anyone where you can be escorted to and from any place on campus no questions asked.

    Greek Life

We have many Greek organizations on campus whom are connected with the Greek Council. The Greeks are the most consistently active groups on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

With over 200 student organizations (and growing) it is almost impossible to not find and organization you are looking for. If you can't find and organization that meets your fancy then create it! Organizations range from Student Government to Campus Activities to religion to sports. Anything and everything is available!

Great for these types of students

This school is great for almost every student. There are enough on campus events that one can really have the tradition college experience. However, the class scheduling is set up for full or part time workers who have other commitments. So whether you are looking for an education and get out or if your looking for a larger impact in your life CSU can achieve both goals!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One unusual thing about CSU is we call ourselves land of the free t-shirts. At almost every event you attend you will get a t-shirt or some other free giveaway. I am going into my 4th year and I have at least 40!

    Bang for the buck

CSU is one of the most affordable schools in Ohio. One thing the administration pride themselves is working towards offering more scholarships for students. There are so many scholarships and financial aid options for CSU students!

    What to do for fun

So much! As a CSU student you get a free RTA pass which can take you pretty much anywhere in the greater Cleveland area. If your a nature activist the Metroparks are within 15-20 minutes from downtown. For the sun lovers, there are 2 beaches (Lake Erie) within 20 minutes or less of downtown. General attractions include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Natural History Museum (free for CSU students), the Art museum (FREE for everyone!), plays at the Playhouse Square District, the aquarium, the zoo, concerts at the House of Blues or the Q and many sports. There is so much to do in Cleveland!

    Food and Dining

In all honesty, the worse part of CSU may be the food options. There is one dining hall that is set up as a buffet style. Your choices become limited in this fashion. However, they do promise to offer at least one vegan and vegetarian option every day on top of the the normal salad bar. There are also little shops around campus where you can get to go food. Once again, you are in downtown Cleveland, so in a 5 minute walk from campus you have several off campus dining options.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived on campus, but I seen the dorms and heard they are really nice. The dorm structure is really awesome. It is apartment style with a kitchen, bathroom and living area. The resident assistance (RAs) are required to put on events for the residents so there is always something to do on top of the tradition events held on campus. Best part of dorm life? You live downtown! There is so much to do and see in Cleveland and you are in the heart of it!

    Academic Rigor

Prepare for professors to no longer hold your hand like in high school. Classes are fast paced and require a lot of self discipline and self study. However, there are many tutoring resources available and in my experience professors are always willing to meet for one on one sessions.

    Tips for prospective students

Get active! Get engage! There are so many opportunities to gain a lot of valuable experience at CSU, but you need to be proactive! Also, don't be afraid to meet with your professors one on one before you have issues. Many professors weigh this kind of dedication very heavily when it comes to grades and such. Use the free stuff available!!! As a CSU student you get discounted or free tickets to local museums, attractions, and some sports games. Also use the free RTA pass you get!

    In three sentences

Cleveland State University (CSU) is an awesome institution for a motivated, looking for great opportunities type of person. There are so many leadership positions, scholarships, and ways to get involved on campus, but you have to seek out the opportunities, they will not fall in your lap. The administrators really take the students seriously, tutoring and extra help is available for almost all majors/course, and there are always fund activities going on. However, this is not a traditional campus in the sense there are a lot more commuter students then on campus residents.

    Campus Safety

Cleveland is an amazing city full of great people and amazing things to do and see. But, just like every other big city in America, it has it's drawbacks when it comes to safety. There are always patrolmen on campus walking around, checking up on the students, so one does feel safe when walking to and fro on campus. But there have been incidents of violence towards passer-biers as well as robberies. These incidents are common at night, which is a precaution for students who have late classes or, who foolishly decide to go for a midnight stroll. But during the day, there are always people around who are there to help is a situation comes up. The students are encouraged to Say something if you See something. Safety is top priority at CSU, and it is very well appreciated.

    What to do for fun

There is an endless amount of student activities which one could get involved in! The campus is always advertising for events being held at the Wolstein Center, Playhouse Square, Progressive Field, all of which are located in walking distance from the campus. There are also lots of on campus activities run by the student counsel and fraternity groups. There are different social groups people can join like campaign rallies, bible study groups, groups related to your intended major where you can meet students interested and on the same academic track as you are, and lots more! There is so much to do on campus. It's just a matter of finding the best activity or area for yourself.

    Food and Dining

Th cafeteria is like any other. Big and spacious. I would consider the food pretty good. There are always lots of options to choose from as well as a vegetarian choice as well. Not only does CSU have a school cafeteria, but there are a lot of other dining options for campus. Some are fancy, and some are in-and-out types of places. There are also lots of locations where students can find caffeinated drinks like coffee and mocha's for those late nights studying. Overall, the food and dining is pretty amazing.

    Dorm Life

Personally, I wouldn't know much about dorm life because I am a commuter. But from what I have heard and seen, the dorms at CSU are nationally known for their unique interior and cleanliness. The students at CSU have not complained about the facilities nor the lack of space. There is, on the contrary, plenty of space for sleeping, studying, hanging out, group discussions or study groups, and things to that nature. Not surprisingly, there is a waiting list for one of our dorm buildings because they are in such a high demand! I would rate them pretty amazing.

    Academic Rigor

Cleveland State University is all about success for their students. They encourage them to attend academic sessions, tutoring sessions, study groups, as well as set aside time for serious studying. They have a top notch library with tons of information and resources for students, and they have an excellent career service center which is always available for students who are struggling with their career choice or lack of one.

    Tips for prospective students

With college comes crucial decision making. One must have a set and mature attitude towards their future career. It is important to choose the college which is best for you; don't let anyone choose it for you! There are many great schools out there (including Cleveland State University), and there will always be several choices which could all be the right school for you, but it's up to you to choose which one. So choose wisely and don't be afraid of the future. Think of it as a big adventure just waiting to be embarked on!

    In three sentences

Cleveland State University is all about the future success of their students. They show a lot of interest in making sure CSU have several opportunities to grow in the arts and academics of their career choice. This is something that caught my attention when applying for college, and it's something that I have grown to appreciate and make use of.

    Bang for the buck

Cleveland State is one of the most affordable universities in the nation. At other colleges, tuition is at least twice as expensive as it is here, but you won't even get facilities that are half as amazing as they are here.

    What to do for fun

Since Playhouse Square is right down the street, you can see a variety of plays and musicals that are on tour. Tower City is a great place to shop or go to the movies. People spend hours in that place and its beautiful. The dorms have game rooms with pool tables, ping pong, etc. There's always something to do in the city.

    Food and Dining

Since you're in the city, the options are endless when it comes to dining experience. We have a wide range of places to go; from Chinese take-out, to high class dining in playhouse square. You name it, Cleveland's got it!

    Dorm Life

If I had to choose between the three dormitories that we have (Fenn Tower, Heritage Hall, Euclid Commons) I'd choose Euclid Commons. This dorm was very recently constructed. They have lovely hardwood floors, well equipped kitchen (with a dishwasher!), single bedrooms, private bathrooms and wonderful R.A.'s that are very easy to talk to if you need anything. The Residence Life Association takes really good care of us.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are fantastic. They are ready and willing to help you succeed. It's actually fairly difficult to fail a class here.

    Tips for prospective students

Since you're in the big city, be safe and be smart; try not to go anywhere by yourself after dark. Stay on top of your schedule and your studies; it's very easy to get caught up in the hype of the parties. It's okay to party sometimes, but keep your priorities in good order.

Clubs? Extracurriculars? The usual. There is no football team, which is a bummer. They also have various events that go on every week outisde of the student center or main classroom.

    Food and Dining

Horrible! If you want decent food from the cafeteria, make sure to get there early. There are other options, like Bar Uno and Cafe Ah-Roma that are better, but can be pricy after awhile.

    Dorm Life

I commute, but several of my friends dorm and the housing conditions are excellent. There is construction going on for additional housing units, and the new dorms called Euclid Commons are apartment-style living.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on what you are majoring in- for example, if you plan to go into sciences or any health profession, be prepared for some hard work. On the other hand, that is part of the college experience. Hard work prepares you for any future academic plans or careers you might have. Other than that it is manageable most of the time.

    Tips for prospective students

Honestly, I came here with average expectations and my rating for the school is still average. Perhaps I was expecting more, but then again it takes time to get in the swing of things and become more involved. You can't just join a random club and say you are involved'- find a club, sport or anything that you enjoy or interested in and stick with it. You will meet friends that way and college will be a better experience for you.

    In three sentences

CSU is for students who want to accomplish their degree, nothing more, nothing less. You are completely independent and dependent on yourself. CSU encourages you to become involved.

    Food and Dining

Campus food depends on where you go. Bar Uno is a good spot, especially their Broccoli Cheddar soup! Never a disappointment! As for the main campus dining center, Viking Marketplace, there's plenty of options to choose from, so no one should ever leave hungry. You're bound to find something you'll like. Also, the deserts at Viking Marketplace are always absolutely scrumptious!!!

    Dorm Life

I don't live on campus, my house is only a few minutes driving time away...

    Academic Rigor

As mentioned earlier, teachers are passionate about what they teach and are always willing to take as much time as necessary to explain what their students don't understand. CSU really wants students to succeed. Most classes have grad students who teach study groups for each specific class. Otherwise, there is a tutoring center with tutors in each and every subject. If there's something you don't get, you have plenty of options to ask for help!

    Tips for prospective students

If you don't understand something, don't hesitate to ask! Often times everyone's too scared to ask the teacher during class but a lot of the students end up coming up to the teacher afterwards asking for an explanation of something that nearly half or more students in the class didn't understand. With most things, if you don't understand, there's someone else who has the same question!

    In three sentences

This is quite an amazing school! Students are wonderful and helpful. Teachers are very passionate about their work and always willing to spend extra time to ensure their students understand the information being taught.

They send you an email every time someone gets assaulted/robbed etc. There are tons of campus safety/police officers patrolling the streets and buildings. There is a new app CSU has created with an emergency button in case of an assault or robbery.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs and activities for every student. Just depends on what you're interested in and what major you've elected.

    Bang for the buck

If you're starting out as a freshman prepare to be in debt! Fall and Spring semesters cost around $5000 for a full-time schedule. That doesn't include books, food, supplies, and every other educational expense. I transferred from a community college where a full-time semester cost about $1200-$1500. CSU also has University partnership programs with some community colleges. You attend CSU classes through the community college and it's cheaper.

    Food and Dining

There are tons of places to eat up and down Euclid Ave. I have never been in the CSU cafeteria but I know they have some restaurants in the main building as well.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor depends on the program of study, the student's individual learning style, the classes being attended, and the professor's style of teaching. Personally, I've always done well in school with the least amount of effort but if this is not the case for you then you should prepare to spend the majority of your time studying. There are resources for such assistance like tutors. If you fall behind, speak to your professor immediately. They will help you get back to where you should be.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Prepare to spend $200-$300 for parking PER SEMESTER and DO NOT park anywhere you're not allowed to or you'll get fined $35 or towed. There are different hangtags and options. The green hangtag ($300 approx.) allows students to park in the best and (closest) garages while the white hangtag ($200 approx.) gives you fewer options, all of which include walking of up to a mile and a half. 2. Check and re-check and re-check again during every process of enrollment and attendance. Like transcripts, finances, charges, and grades. 3. If you're a veteran make sure you see the adviser for your major, not just the VA guys!! 4. Request transcripts for your own records and print out your program requirements!! Go through them and check off what you have completed. I was scheduled for classes I did not need all because no one looked in depth at my transcripts. 5. Once enrolled and attending, check your CampusNet info regularly. Grades, student finance accounts, unofficial transcripts, and much more are posted within. If something is inaccurate, it is up to you to get it fixed! 6. Rent your books from ecampus.com or a related site. Chances are you'll buy it and not even use it during the semester and the school then may or may not buy it back. I've been burnt too many times. One textbook can cost $50-$200 when you buy it but renting it from an online source can be anywhere from $10-$40 and the website pays for the return shipping when it's due back at the end of your semester. All you have to do is put it back in the box it came in and print the shipping label and drop it at a UPS store. 7. Don't be afraid to ask questions!!! 8. Don't be stupid about your belongings and safety. People get robbed everyday downtown because they're walking down Euclid Avenue with their face in their phone. Be careful because it'll get snatched. Just be aware of your surroundings! People who don't pay attention to what is happening around them are easy targets.

    In three sentences

CSU is a great school to attend because it looks good on paper when you're searching for a career. Other than that, there are many resources offered but it's entirely up to the student to ensure every aspect of your education is being recorded and handled appropriately. They err on guidance for new students (I felt lost), lose paperwork or simply neglect to turn it in (in my case; I had to send in transcripts twice from my high school, colleges, and military experience and they didn't process my veteran benefits which affected my finances for 3 months), post inaccurate grades (I was recorded as earning a C when it is supposed to be an A), and most of all what can go wrong will!

Of course the dining hall isn't fantastic, but there are plenty of other places to find some food between classes, there are several different tiny shops throughout the inner link that sell the basic snack foods, there is also The Atrium Cafe, which has Starbucks coffee and sandwiches, so there are plenty of options to use your dining dollars.

    Dorm Life

I chose to live in a dorm my freshman year and I am so happy I did, by living in the dorms it made it easier to meet people as well as get involved. Both Fenn Tower and Euclid Commons have special events like the Fenn Tower of Terror or different movie nights, which anyone can attend.

    Academic Rigor

My friends and I all agree that the academics aren't too rigorous, gen eds are usually pretty easy, but make sure to get them out of the way early in your college career so you can focus on your major.

    Tips for prospective students

I would highly suggest taking several tours, just because each tour guide will know more about different parts of campus, so they will be able to inform you of different things. Definitely try to schedule a tour with someone who share your major, they will be able to give you an idea of what you'll be doing once you start.

    Food and Dining

Not many options for vegetarians. All their health conscious options are disgusting. Junk food is the only thing done right there.

    Dorm Life

The managers of the dorms are not understanding and place very strict ridiculous rules. However dorm community life is strong and it is very easy to make friends. There are also many fun activities for residents to participate it.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the humanities classes are a total joke. Many students do not even show up and still pass easily. Science and math classes are fairly difficult and challenging once you get up to 300-400 level courses.

    Tips for prospective students

Parking is a nightmare and parking passes are overpriced and confusing so arrive very early if you commute. Beware of the rampant crime around and on campus and use the bridges between buildings whenever you can. Use the tutoring services as they are excellent and very helpful. Avoid the meal hall and the school restaurants unless you want to suffer stomach distress.

    In three sentences

CSU has a campus, dorms, and food that leave much to be desired. Administration is slow and tedious which made me feel like I had to run in circles to receive help. The teachers can vary wildly between excellent and available or detached and distant.
