Great for these types of students

If you don't know what major you would like to pursue and are just looking to get your general classes out of the way then College of Lake County is the place to be. Then again, if you know what career you would like to pursue then this is also the place for you. It is a fun educational environment.

    Bang for the buck

Each credit only being about one hundred dollars, it is a lot cheaper then other schools. Of course if you are full time some people such as myself need a massive amount of help for the pricing. But it is a lot cheaper then other schools in Illinois and it is definitely worth the price.

    Am enjoying being here

The students are a variety at College of Lake County and you end up making a massive amount of friends and study buddies. There are sections throughout the school where you can relax and study at the same time. The staff are very friendly and willing to help. The school itself is very welcoming and creates a relaxing atmosphere so you can gain the education you need.

    Am learning a lot

Since the classes are small you are in a cozier environment and you have much more one on one time with the teacher. The curriculum is complex and yet easy to work with and you achieve a much higher educational experience then you think you would get.

    Bang for the buck

You're paying almost nothing for an education that you would cost you 20 times as much elsewhere.

    Am enjoying being here

Although it's a good school, you're still missing out on the University experience that can't be replicated at a commuter school.

    Am learning a lot

Small class sizes make one on one time with instructors easy. One of the best community colleges you can attend in Illinois.

    Campus Safety

i've never seen anything illegal on campus in my four years at the school and the security guards are the nicest and oddly most enlightened people i have ever met.

    Greek Life

there is no greek life as far as i'm aware as it is just a community college.

    Clubs and Activities

there are clubs for everything, this is because everyone is trying to make their resumes awesome for their college of choice. i never joined one myself, as i was always practicing or playing in bands, but i know they are ran by committed and smart people. and there's at least one or two school run activities every month, so there's not really ever a dry spell of having nothing to do.

Great for these types of students

the college of lake county is a great school for slackers, non-traditional students, students who couldn't afford all four years of college or the guy who is just clueless. some people after going to college of lake county realize that school isn't for them and that's totally okay too as long you are happy. don't be discouraged though because these may sound like the losers to you but the people you meet are probably just in the same spot as yourself. also most of teachers are awesome and brilliant which is of course, great.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are no unusual traditions or locations on campus, but i've personally found the hideous, asymmetric grayslake campus to be very charming after awhile.

    Bang for the buck

paying a fraction of what a university charges for general education classes, that are either the same or better in quality, is obviously a great bargain.

    What to do for fun

whatever you want, you're not limited to the campus or anything. college of lake county holds loads of concerts and activities so people can mingle and meet each other. i personally just hung out with friends or played music though.

    Food and Dining

though college of lake county is a cheap place to get your general education credits done cheaply, i'm pretty sure college of lake county makes most of its' money off desperate kids with it's cafeteria and vending machines. luckily, there are plenty places around the campus that are much cheaper (and better tasting) than the cafeteria and the vending machines.

    Dorm Life

there are no dorms in college of lake county, but if you like living at home it is terrific.

    Academic Rigor

it is college material, but the pacing is a lot slower and kind of easier. the true nature of community college is the connections you make and the work you put into it, like anything in life but much more true here. and while not being a real full-time student, one can get part-time job or enjoy life a little without the constant stress.

    Tips for prospective students

if i were to give a tip about students going to college of lake county, don't worry about what other people say about you going to a community college. do your own thing, save some money and make your own life, no one is or can decide it for you and every person in life goes at their own pace. that being said, give it your all and prepare hard for your future degrees where ever it may take you.

    In three sentences

the community college, college of lake county, is a good place for those who seek knowledge, want to save money, who don't know what they want to do yet, who aren't ready to go into a university yet or all of these things, i've seen them all! i was personally able to begin learning percussion at the college of lake county and it became my passion, now i am a music education major. college of lake county is great place for the confusing times for those in their late-teen years during the rough economic times, i'm very happy i went.

    Campus Safety

Campus has its own police department. You will see a police officer every time you walk somewhere. Very safe!

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of clubs and sports, there is also a gym that is free to students. however no pool. Many school activities that go on all day throughout the school. This school is very involved with clubs

Great for these types of students

Great for people who are trying to attend a college of state, save a little more money especially if paying out-of-state tuition. Students who are not sure of their major.

    Bang for the buck

Great to go to a community college for at least a year to get some classes out of the way and save at least 10 thousand! It also gives you a chance to explore different majors.

    What to do for fun

The lake right outside of campus is beautiful where people go boating all the time.

    Food and Dining

Lots of great sushi and Thai places right outside the campus. Downtown Grayslake has a strip full of various places to eat and dine.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms available at CLC

    Academic Rigor

Some of the best teachers are here in Grayslake, they always have office hours on the syllabus, as well as outside their office. All professors are mandatory to have office hours, and most go beyond to try and make time for your schedule. A lot of professors take attendance to get you ready for your future university.

    Tips for prospective students

If you know your 4-yr school make sure you go off their requirements and not so much CLC's. The problem most students have is that their credits transfer however they don't fit in to the curriculum of their proceeding college. The credits then become electives instead of going towards their degree. Another important rule of thumb is going to class and communicating with professors. Now that you're out of high school some teachers don't make attendance mandatory, however if you don't show up, you will miss out on a lot, and usually there is no make-up.

    In three sentences

CLC has some of the best teachers a community college has to offer, and they get you ready for your four year schooling with attendance and participation. It is great value, but make sure you take the classes you need, because counselors don't always guide you to the right classes unless you know the college you are further attending. A lot of students that attend end up spending a little more than two years at their 4-yr college because of poor planning.

    Bang for the buck

this school is affordable! if you plan on going to a four year, i say get your gen eds done here. I know you don't get the experience of living on campus but you save money and you are prepared once you got the four year institution

    Food and Dining

    okay but could be better.

    Academic Rigor

i would say that is about average, and you do have to put time in to your classes. especially for math and accounting. you can do well if you put in the time and effort.

    Tips for prospective students

if you are dedicated and you put time in your studies and use all your resources you will be successful at this school. don't be shy, ask all the questions when in class because if you don't know how will you know for their tests. Lastly, just know that it is not a blow off and know that you will have to put in time.

    In three sentences

This school is affordable and you get a good education. I really learned a lot form just going to class and getting help from the tutor. I really enjoyed my time at college of lake county.

Great for these types of students

Students who take care of family or have children themselves will love the College of Lake County's flexible class scheduling and reasonable driving distance. Students looking to save thousands of dollars from going to a university will love the College of Lake County's affordable price. Students who wish to stay in Lake County, whether for job reasons or out of choice, will love the connections the College of Lake County makes with businesses, retailers, and individuals in Lake County. Students who are undecided about a major upon graduating high school, or who feel intimidated by a university's large, overbearing feel, will also love the College of Lake County.

    Tips for prospective students

While high schools and other students may bash the College of Lake County at times, calling it an easy school or the college of last chance, do not attend the College based on this information. The College of Lake County expects students to work hard and put forth the effort needed for each class. They have the same standards a good university would have.

    Bang for the buck

Considering what you pay for on a big university campus and the little one-on-one teacher interaction you'll receive, CLC is the best price wise. On a university campus, such as Illinois State or Southern Illinois, you'll be in a large auditorium with hundreds of students and your presence will go unnoticed. If you're having issues grasping a concept in class, it will be a struggle a meet with the teacher at an appropriate time and get help. At the College of Lake County, class sizes are very small, with approximately 20 students per class, and professors take the 16 week semester to get to know everyone. They have consistent office hours when they can help students and answer questions.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at the College of Lake County. There are numerous study spaces and resources all set aside for student use. There's a variety of clubs and organizations that students can get involved with and volunteer in. The classes are enjoyable and there's a bunch of different events that happen during the semester, including job and college fairs, bake sales, and educational events.

    Am learning a lot

Professors at CLC have classes that are intended for students to learn. If you, the student, is willing to do the homework, listen and record the lectures, and participate, you will gain tons of knowledge that can be applied into your future career. Do not listen to people when they say the College of Lake County is an easy school. No education is easy, and those individuals couldn't be farther from the truth.

we have a police station on campus and they are very efficent with their jobs in protecting the campus. their job isn't just to protect the students, if you need to talk to them they are there for you.

    Greek Life

we have a phi theta kappa which is the honors society on campus. that's abou it though.

    Clubs and Activities

they have over 50 clubs and organizations on campus and if none of the clubs fit your wants or needs you can make your own club with 9 other students and an advisor. go to student activities and find out more.

Great for these types of students

any students will fit on campus whether it's incoming freshman or a returning adult. they school's atmosphere is very friendly, open and helpful.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are three campuses one in grayslake (main campus), south lake and lake shore. grayslake has a beautiful campus with a lake in its backyard and a running/walking trail around the boarder of the school. they have a very green campus with lots of trees and flowers.

    Bang for the buck

the college of lake county is definitely worth looking into. the classes are very affordable and if you don't know what you want to do as a major you won't be wasting your money and if you do know what you want to do it's a great way to save money by taking care of prerequisites for different majors. also, if you're just wanting to live closer to home that is another advantage of going to the college of lake county.

    What to do for fun

(grayslake campus) they have over 50 different clubs and organizations that you can get involved with and we have sports offered as well. the gym is free to students and we even have a lair that has tv, computers, pool tables and video games. the main lobby has comfy chairs for students to hang out and the library has over two computer labs for student use.

    Food and Dining

the food is pretty good. they have a variety of different foods available and have two different cafeterias that aren't over priced. if your on the grayslake campus go to the university center has the best food and it's all at a reasonable price. i haven't gone to the lake shore or south lake campuses so if you go there i hope they have good food as well.

    Dorm Life

    there are no dorms.

    Academic Rigor

don't be mistaken that just because the college is a two institution that the classes you take won't be difficult and require studying and doing homework. the courses are just as difficult and intense as a four year school which is useful because when you actually get to a four year school you won't be surprised or get behind. i've taken a lot of heavy science courses because of my major and they were not easy and required hours of studying and doing homework. i've also taken general courses as well and depending on what teacher you get the class could be easier or harder. overall though, the college of lake county is a great institution to come to for a bettering your education.

    Tips for prospective students

don't procrastinate!, do your homework, show up to class, get involved in the different clubs and organizations, use the resources that are there for you (the student empowerment center, the writing and math center, office with students with disabilities, health center, etc.) and enjoy your experience here.

    In three sentences

the college of lake county is a great experience for any prospective students. the classes are intense and the there are a bunch of different activities, clubs and organizations on campus. it's a great place to start your education and you won't be disappointed; just make sure you don't slack off in class and get involved and you'll enjoy your time at the college of lake county.

over 50 clubs at clc! there is something for everyone. there are also great sports teams.

wonderful for students of all kinds!

    Food and Dining

there is a cafeteria at clc as well as a small cafe called something's brewing. my recommendation is to bring a packed lunch with you! only you know what is healthy for your body and what will help you focus in class. there are a limited amount of healthy choices as far as dining goes at clc.

    Dorm Life

unfortunately, there is no on campus housing for clc. it is a community college.

    Academic Rigor

the reason i put four stars is because the classes and material can be very challenging - just because this is community college doesn't mean the classes are easy! - but it's what you make of it. if you take your homework and your classes seriously, you will do great! i don't recommend ditching classes, because a lot of the information you learn will be through class lectures, and attending class will definitely help you be successful.

    Tips for prospective students

i highly encourage every student to get involved in one way or another. clubs, activities, sports, or even working on campus are great ways to meet new people and find something you're interested in. there are tons of clubs and activities going on every single day, and by getting into it, you will enjoy your experience at clc twice as much.

    In three sentences

college of lake county is a great way to transition from high school to a university while saving money and meeting new people. it's very diverse and a lot different from high school, where i practically grew up with everyone i went to school with. although some people may have negative things to say about community college, i truly think that clc has so much to offer and is a great way to learn more about yourself, while giving yourself the opportunity to discover what subjects you may want to study.

    Greek Life

As far as I know, there is no greek life. BUT, Phi Theta Kappa, a academic organization is offered at the College of Lake County for students with above a certain G.P.A By joining, students are given financial opportunities not available to non-members.

    Clubs and Activities

The College of Lake County has a variety of club. Check out student activities for a full list of clubs. Choose clubs that fit your interest and don't be afraid to meet new people. P.S. Check out the Psychology Club!

Great for these types of students

Great for any type of student. For those looking to save money and can't quite afford a four-year college just yet, this is the school for you. Again, just make sure you take the correct classes for the future school you're interested in. Students who transfer to four-year universities are more able to get financial assistance when they can can show they did well academically and socially at their community college. Private schools are especially kind to you if you do well academically and are a transfer student.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Behind the art gallery is a quiet area space with a nice scene, many students forget about this spot, but when you need to get work done, this place is perfect.

    What to do for fun

CLC offers a variety of social events throughout the semester, more for day than night time students. There are also a variety of clubs one can get involved in from Anime Club, to International Club, to Psychology Club. For those interested in self-improvement, workshops, conferences, and fairs are also found on campus. I recommend getting INVOLVED. Just going to class and leaving campus can get quite boring. By getting involved, students are able to meet new people, network, and progress. Based off personal experience, I have become a rounder person through school involvement. I have also been offered work, volunteer, and internship opportunities not completely available to students who JUST attend class.

    Food and Dining

CLC offers O.K food. As a college student, you learn to make your own lunches in order to save money! I'd rather spend my money on spending time with friends.

    Academic Rigor

As the College of Lake County is a two-year community college, one can expect not to take 300, 400 level courses (junior, senior level courses). Most classes, from my experience, are not too difficult if one stays on tops of their homework, asks questions, works hard, and makes adjustments when necessary. This is not high school, college WILL require more work out of you. Take it as a challenge. Hard work is only temporary. Be prepared to write many papers. Don't worry, with time and effort, you WILL be a better writer. CLC offers a variety of academic assistance from their writing and math center to their peer mentoring programs to their various workshops intended to help students with their academic struggles. For those looking to further challenge themselves, honors courses are available to students who have a certain G.P.A (Grade Point Average is so important!). If you are able to take honors courses and maintain above a B, you're course fee is refunded.

    Tips for prospective students

The College of Lake County gets a bed representation from many high school students. Basically, high school students, because as high school students we aren’t made completely aware of the tremendous amount of opportunities offered, but rather a community college is seen as a college for those who are failing in life. This is certainly untrue. Students from all over Lake County attend CLC due to its affordability, valuable classes, and social activities. Also, there numerous other resources offered at CLC. Closer relationships among teachers and students at this college are possible; this is not always the case at four – year universities. My advice to prospective students is that all should consider community college, especially if the student needs to finish general courses. General courses (perquisites in order to pursue ones major) are basically the same at any college. Why pay more for the same general courses you could be taking at a community college like CLC? Once you hit college, you’ll realize how necessary it is to be smart and save (college debt sucks!). Also, for prospective students, do your research. Most professors at CLC are great; because these professors understand why students have chosen community college, but one should still research who are credible professors, perhaps check out ratemyprofessor.com. Furthermore, when taking courses at a community college with intent to transfer, it is important to find out what future college you’re interested in attending so that you can take the classes needed accordingly. Don’t be afraid to do your research and meet with college counselors. Lastly, become active and be aware of valuable events going on at the campus (networking is key!).

    In three sentences

The College of Lake County is a great college institution for those interested in continuing their education. CLC provides students with valuable, but affordable, courses with room to prosper in higher level courses as well. In addition, students are given opportunity to broaden their horizons through available social activities found on campus.

The academics at College of Lake County are up to par with a 4 year university. The instructors are down to business and really know what they are doing. They are also helpful and some even go so far as to give you their personal phone number to use if you have any questions.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose classes carefully, and don't take more classes than you can handle. Having a full time school schedule is a lot harder than it seems. On average you will have 3 times the amount of credit hours worth of work. So if a class is worth 4 credit hours, you will have 12 hours worth of work at the least. Also, if you need help ASK! There are many tutoring opportunities for students to aid them in the process.

    Greek Life

Do not believe this is something the College of Lake County offers. It would be a great experience for the new high school graduates to have a part of the greek life, as their friends might be experiencing at 4 year universities. Also, it they are in a chapter at College of Lake County (if there is a greek system) they can join their sister or brother chapter! Great for these types of students

For new graduated high schoolers, students who received their GED's, older adults returning to either learn new subjects or study for a career change....College of Lake County is the place to start. This is a place that is right for students who are unsure of what they want academically. They get a cost effective chance to see if this path is the right one for them.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

This summer is my first time taking a class at College of Lake County. I'm not aware of unusual traditions, but am excited to discover them soon :)

    Bang for the buck

As a newly divorcee with 2 young children, the cost for the classes and books are more affordable than attending a 4 year university. As I venture back into the unknown world, I found a certification program that takes 2 years and will pay more than what I could make now....and be away from the daughters for longer periods of time. The cost, the program, the support from the Head of the Dept, Dr. Weichert, have made this process a smooth transition for me. College of Lake County has students ranging from 18-60+ years old. What an exciting experience to meet people you normally wouldn't meet and establish new friendships, regardless of age. Why not take core classes that are required at all universities at a community college for less and with more one on one attention. Then you can transfer those classes and you have already saved yourself money.

    What to do for fun

The College offers a lot of different activities throughout the year. There is a quad, grassy area to lay back and relax during down time and lots of places to spend time catching up with friends. Activites sponsored by the College of Lake County are posted on the bulletin boards throughout the school and all students are sent an email to their CLC email accounts.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria and a coffee bar...and of course tons of vending machines. These are good for the quick snack between classes. Since this is a communter school, you will not be utilizng the cafeteria with a dining plan, as you would with universitites where you stay in a dorm.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm for this college. It is a local community college

    Academic Rigor

Classes are classes. There is a lot of work for each class and you will be liable for keeping up, since the class size is smaller than bigger universities. My advice, try to never miss a lecture, ask for help when you need it, and stay on top of the assignments. This will make balancing your class load, work, social life, family....in a nice schedule and will allow you to feel like you are not missing anything.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are unsure what you want to do with your future, as many of us are, College of Lake County allows you to take different classes in different fields. Since it's tuition is affordable, you can really use this time to find out what really interests you. For students who did not put academics as their top priority prior to now, this is a great place to start. The faculty is always available and willing to help, classes are small, and you feel like the professor is able to really take the time to address everyone's different learning styles.

    In three sentences

The College of Lake County is a great place to start your continuing education classes or programs. Th faculty is always available and have been supportive with my personal situation. Its close, affordable, and will allow me time to spend wit my 2 daughters.

Disciplining yourselves makes anything attainable. Compliance as to pursuance as to having resources. Rigourness as to strictness as repeatability as to knowledge. I may say I have sweat blood to learn, the hard way because not everyone have a capacity or gift of retainability but I conclude is worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

I could only say less by this time as I am halfway through but by Grace of God, may I glorify Him enough to any person that I am sharing this message.

    Campus Safety

There seems to very little crime-related activity occurring at CLC. Maybe it is because most of the students who attend are busy individuals who do not have the luxury of free time to indulge in anything other than productive activities.

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs and activities are abound. From an aikido club to a radio organization, almost every type of interest is represented and if it is not, then you have the freedom/responsibility to begin a group yourself. Find your niche and have fun.

Great for these types of students

I personally believe that almost everyone in the community can benefit from attending the College of Lake County, hence its categorization as a community college, but I think that open-minded, inquisitive, non-traditional, mature and ambitious individuals would do very well with the resources that CLC offers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

CLC is full of unusual nooks and crannies, as most large campuses are. They pretty much have something for everyone, from the bustling seating areas with modern furniture to beautiful outdoor regions to the less visited areas that can offer a few individuals some solace in the traffic of life.

    Bang for the buck

As of 4/16, the tuition rate at CLC is $93 per credit hour for students living within the district (which corresponds roughly to about the size of Lake County). Cent for cent, this is one of the best investments you can make from a monetary perspective. From a universal perspective, it is also a very good decision because ultimately what matters is your education and experience, not what some media conglomerate ranks your institution as, and CLC definitely delivers a top rate experience on those ends.

    What to do for fun

The College of Lake County benefits from its physical proximity to both Chicago and Milwaukee and the numerous towns and villages in between to the point that there is always something to do. Although this is probably its greatest strength, CLC also offers many activities for its community members to enjoy. Activities like lectures by esteemed figures and recreational events are always happening around campus and most often they are offered for free.

    Food and Dining

The College of Lake County offers a good amount of varied and seemingly healthy food options. Although it does not have a dining hall, it does have a large food service area to accommodate its sizable amount of students. Probably the best thing CLC does in terms of food, is allow its Hospitality and Culinary Management students to have their own student-run restaurant. This freedom to empower its students and allow them the responsibility of running an entire business in all its laborious glory, is exemplary of the mindset that CLC has for everyone. The food is pretty good too.

    Academic Rigor

A subjective grade. Everyone's mind is its own universe, so each individual will perceive the rigor of CLC's courses very differently. With each instructor having their own teaching style and each class having its own natural level of difficulty, it is easy to overgeneralize and say that the classes offered here are hard or easy. Basically if you come in with an open mind, do a decent amount of work and have a personable disposition, you should receive an A or a B. You have to flexible though, because sometimes the classes that seem the easiest, like a culinary or art class, turn out to be extremely difficult, so in that case you need to adapt your style to succeed and learn.

    Tips for prospective students

With an annual student enrollment rate of well over 17,000, the only major issue I see confronting CLC is its individual attention to each and every student. Although the school affords its students many opportunities to branch out, get involved and meet new people, the onus really is on the individual to jump start the process. Simply put, make sure to be proactive and do things like talk to your professors during office hours, take random interesting courses that do not neatly fit into your major and become involved for a cause on campus. Doing this will allow you to truly experience, as you will be able to learn inside and outside of the classroom and perhaps in the process do some networking for your future field of study/work.

    In three sentences

The College of Lake County (CLC) is a great institution of learning, offering paths to a multiplicity of different careers. This school would be a perfect complement to individuals who have an open mind, are eager to learn and can appreciate the down-to-earth common sense that every member of the community (students, faculty and staff) possesses. Those who are associated with CLC also have a tasteful sense of pride because they know that, in spite of the college's derisive epithets by outsiders, the college truly is a great educational institution that believes in a holistic approach offering many resources for their people.

Pretty fantastic! There are so many officers readily available and so nice to students but harsh to thieves, students who fight, and those who vandalize.

    Greek Life

    Non-existent, unfortunately!

    Clubs and Activities

SO MANY! There's over 50 and you can make your own club or organization if you can't find one that fits with you or your schedule. All the clubs are so different, it's probable you'll find at least 5 you're interested in. Clubs range from Harry Potter Club to Pre-Dentistry Club.

Great for these types of students

Students that enjoy a small college setting with professors and staff that can help you at every turn. Friendly staff and students and engaging educational environment.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every semester, student life sets out snacks around campus because they want all the kids to start off on the right foot. They'll set out nutella and pb&j sandwiches, granola bars, etc. so you don't have to go to class on an empty stomach. I love that touch, it really shows how considerate and caring the college is of their students.

    Bang for the buck

One of the cheapest colleges in the state and it doesn't seem like it! There are so many programs, student workers, friendly staff, etc. that the cost seems like it should be thousands higher. Luckily, you get so much in return for what you pay.

    What to do for fun

Clubs and organizations always have something going on and student life throws carnivals for students at the beginning and middle of each semester. There's always the beautiful outside to discover, it's wonderful to just relax next to the nearby lake.

    Food and Dining

There's a student run restaurant with Cheesecake factory portions and quality and it's all for dirt cheap, it's about $12 for a 3 course meal. There's a cafeteria, too, with dollar deals and a salad bar, sushi, hot meals, etc.

    Dorm Life

    Non-existent, unfortunately.

    Academic Rigor

Classes aren't too hard if you actually do the work they assign you, you'll get an A or B. Teachers are more than happy to help so even if you don't do the work on your own, you can bring it in and ask for help.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs and organizations! Feel free to talk to your professor regarding class or anything else! Take advantage of work study options and the programs that are so readily available to you!

    In three sentences

I love it here! It's small but packed full of interesting classes and people. Student life and activities make up a lot of campus life. It's a shame this isn't a 4 year university, I would've stayed had they been.

Campus has been a little sketchy in the past year. Cars have gotten broken into a few times and there was a sexual assault on campus.

    What to do for fun

I am not very big into sports or clubs. I do not stay at CLC longer than I have to.

    Food and Dining

I have not eaten the food in the cafeteria. However there is a coffee shop on the main level of the campus called Somethings Brewing and it is amazing! Great coffee and muffins!

    What to do for fun

There are many activities that College of Lake County offer. Many organizations post up flyers, announcements are up on the school's website and marquee in the front of the school. The school's theater also hosts many shows that are school sponsored or outside sponsor.

    Food and Dining

There is a great deli on the first floor called Something's Brewing. This mini store that is based from the original across the street of the college. It offers cold sandwiches, salads, and great coffee. The college's cafeteria, located in the basement, offers anything off the grill, burgers, hot dogs, etc. Also, they have quick snacks as well. The only down side about the cafe food is that it is a little expensive for the portion that is given and they charge you for the silverware.

    Dorm Life

Since the College of Lake County is a community college, it does not offer room and boarding. There are apartments and town homes that are located near by in case there are those who want to decide to live near the area.

    Academic Rigor

Like every school academics is competitive for the students, but I believe College of Lake County allows students to go at a pace that they are comfortable with. The college offers many hours for traditional and nontraditional students. There are rankings of the school top students from honors, high honors and highest honors in accordance to their GPA. If a student transfers, schools will look and see if you have obtained those honors.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should meet with their counselors frequently. It is good to set an appointment with a counselor in the beginning, middle and end of each semester to evaluate where you are in your path to your degree. Scheduling an appointment will also allow you to have a set date instead of walk-in appointment because there might be a line of students ahead of you. Another tip, is to take advantage of the social and scholarly organizations and groups. Sometimes they have scholarship opportunities for those who plan on transferring out to a four year university/college. My last tip and the most that I truly stress, is to keep communication with your professors. Make sure they know your name and that you are interested in succeeding in their class. You will see more benefits that come out of it such as tips on how to prepare and study for the class or even hints on what could possibly be on the next quiz or exam.

    In three sentences

The College of Lake County allows students to feel comfortable and encouraged to achieve an exceptional education to either receive an Associates Degree or the educational requirements to pursue to a four year degree university/college. There are many opportunities at College of Lake County that engages the student to be active either in their community or an organization that fits their personal interests. Advisers and counselors are ready to assist and guide all students in the journey of completing their degree.

Even though it is pretty safe at CLC, there is really no need for police officers at CLC. The security guards were doing just fine, and now they have big brother watching every single place inside and out of clc (cameras everywhere). Its very unnerving and uncomfortable).

    Greek Life

    No Greek life there.

    Clubs and Activities

The best club that was at CLC, the Gamers Club, was disbanded because we enjoyed gaming so much, we stayed at clc until the late hours of the night. Security was fine with it, but ever since the regular security guards were replaced by police, I guess they figured the gamers were terrorists or something (lol). The other club I used to attend was the Computer Club. They were okay people, but very controlling and very judgmental.

Great for these types of students

    Underachievers and Slackers

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There used to be a smoking lounge, but that got removed because of state problems with public smoking. Then they allowed people to smoke outside for a little while, but now they have moved the allowed smoking areas more than 50ft from only specific doors. What is this world coming to?

    Bang for the buck

Its a huge waste of money so far! I've gone there for 2 years now and I'm still stuck taking normal courses. The tutors there are terrible. They only have math tutors available; no tutors for any other classes. Go somewhere where they treat you like a customer (where the customer is always right because you're paying them), not a place like CLC, where they just give you the minimum education, and treat you like a chump.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of clubs, though ones that I used to be in, have become pretty rigid and controlled. No one's opinion matters. They are just like CLC's classes; they do what is listed in the cirriculum, and nothing more.

    Food and Dining

Honestly, the food at Lancers within CLC is extremely good! They should have their own chain outside CLC.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at CLC.

    Academic Rigor

The other 7/8ths of CLC's instructors are always either too busy with their full time careers to give any one on one assistance to students, and tell you to go see a tutor. Most of them just give lectures and speed through the material, expecting all students to be able to keep up to speed, just as well as 18 year old students getting right out of high school & into college.

    Tips for prospective students

DO NOT CHOOSE CLC UNLESS YOU ARE SIMPLY PLANNING ON TAKING A CLASS SUCH AS ART OR ENGLISH!

    In three sentences

The College of Lake County absolutely sucks! Only an 8th of the instructors actually care about helping the students. The advisers either do not know what they are talking about, or they are trained to mislead the students so that we continually take classes we do not require, or are not qualified to take, and fail so that we waste more money.
