The University Center is a great place to dine and meet new people - even work on homework! Other than that, the city has tons of convenience stores and restaurants everywhere you look so there is always room to try new things. However, I suggest that all freshman get a meal plan - it's one less thing you have to worry about!
» Read MoreIf you live in one of the apartments you might opt out of eating at the University Center, otherwise that's where you can eat with a meal plan. The food is decent, the deli counter is the best to get food from, but otherwise there is a nice varitiy of food to choose from everyday.
» Read MoreI hear the food there is cool, but it's Chicago.....there are a million food places to go. Plus a lot of the dorms have kitchens in them if you want to save money. There's a Dairy Queen, Dunkin' Donuts, and a lot of other places among the class buildings. Also, the famous Giordanno's Deep Dish Pizza is a taxi drive away.
» Read MoreThere is a cafeteria, which I have never been to, because I heard it's expensive. There are places to eat around. The average amount you will spend at those places is $7. I usually cook a meal at home. Get your food from Jewel(near 1104 Wabash) or take the train and go to Walmart. If you really have to, go to Target. You will spend a little more, but it's convenient.
» Read MoreChicago food goes beyond the deep dish pizza and hot dogs. Columbia is centered in the Loop, surrounded by every type of cuisine from any culture you could think of. Thankfully, there is also a gym to work it all off in.
» Read Morelots of amazing places to eat on campus and the majority give you student discounts
» Read MoreThere is a cafeteria and many vending machines around but since you are in downtown Chicago there are plenty of places where you can eat.
» Read MoreAt first the meal plan is a great thing, but then you realize its just the same 4 or 5 foods over and over again. While it is nice not having to make the food and have unlimited portions, it would be far better to just use the money from the meal plan and use it instead to buy food throughout the semester. Especially since all the residence buildings are surrounded by great restraunts, all of which offer student deals and great food. On a side note, if you live in the UC in a suite style setup, the meal plan is mandatory, but any other rooming set up, or plainly, if you have a kitchen in your apartment or room, then the meal plan is optional.
» Read MoreThe food around campus is pretty good. Aside from wings and pizza, there are places for coffee, healthy restaurants, and at least one family restaurant.
» Read MoreThe restaurants around our campus are really good. They have a little of everything especially that it's in downtown makes our school even better.

» Read MoreColumbia is proud to not support Greek life. At this school, there are no sports teams, no Greek life or row, and there technically aren't any school colors. This is an arts school, not your typical university, and that's a strong reason in why I like this school as much as I do.
