Great for these types of students

Students who aren't sure what career path they're interested in yet, students who want to save a significant amount of money for the first two years of college.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely consider online classes to free up your schedule. They are relatively easy and flexible. If you're worried about taking a class entirely online, hybrid classes are also a great option to consider.

    Bang for the buck

Columbia-Greene is part of the SUNY system, so the credits are widely transferable to all state schools and many other public and private institutions, both in- and out-of-state. It is so worth it to start out here because the classes are very inexpensive, while meeting SUNY guidelines.

    Am enjoying being here

The students and teachers are helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere is very relaxed and informal for the most part. Readily available professors and other staff members.

    Am learning a lot

The classes available are all the perfect amount of time - not too much learning crammed in all at once, but long enough to receive a fulfilling lesson in whichever subject you're taking. I've taken one, two, and three day a week classes, and I don't have a preference because they're all equally as rewarding and generally easy to keep up with.

Great for these types of students

This college is perfect for anyone! Get all your required transfer credits out of the way without paying insane tuition bills.

    Tips for prospective students

This is such a great college, there aren't as many students as most...the classes are small and personal...and everyone is friendly. If you go here, you save money, and time, and you will get a fantastic education. If you do your work, you can go really far here.

    Bang for the buck

SO CHEAP! It's a great education, for about 1/5 of the price of a private college.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the classes!! The kids are great, and the professors are all really awesome!! They are all interesting and fun and they keep you interested everyday.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers work with you, if you need help, they give it to you. The classes are small and easy, and the work isn't as difficult as most would think.

    Commuters.

    Tips for prospective students

Transcripts will cost you $5.00 each when you order them, and do it well in advance! It takes a while. You also can't order them online, you have to fax in a request. Definitely a pain! Be sure to really ask around before taking classes from certain teachers in the Business department. I cannot emphasize this enough!

    Bang for the buck

This college is nearly twice as expensive as the current community college I am attending, where I receive much more personal attention, have better teachers, and significantly more resources. However, to be fair to Columbia Greene, they are a much smaller school in a small area. I feel that they provide a valuable service, but that they could do better.

    Did enjoy being here

Columbia Greene is a very small school. There are few social activities available (but there is a nice little gym). The food is pretty terrible. Students would likely be better served, if they can manage it, by going to Hudson Valley Community College.

    Did learn a lot

At Columbia Greene, I had one great teacher, who was only teaching for that semester to cover for another teacher who was away. I had one good teacher, and two terrible teachers. One of my terrible teachers was the head of his department, so there was no one to complain to about his bizarre behaviors and complete lack of teaching skills and helpfulness.

    Campus Safety

My dad is one of the security guards therefor i feel safest when he is there. Although I do feel less safe with most of the other guards. It is pretty much safe though.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I have not found any yet. I do know for Halloween they have a contest and the teacher voted for the most has to wear a costume (no matter what the costume is).

    Bang for the buck

I think some things could be cheaper! I also disagree with paying for certain courses when they are not credited, they should at least be cheaper than a regular credited class!

    What to do for fun

There are many groups to join like art club and others. At lunch or other breaks you can go to the library, get on your laptops, go shoot hoops in the gym, and other stuff.

    Food and Dining

There could be more options for the food, but other than that I love it. The guy that runs the food and dining is nice and hes a great cook too!

    Dorm Life

Has no dorms, but if they did they probably would be good. I hear they are thinking of getting dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Most teachers will help by all means! Even if you are not their student. Other though are horrible and don't grade right!

    Tips for prospective students

My tips would to get everything done admissions wise and for every other thing like financial aid. The sooner your get things finished the better off you will be!

    In three sentences

I love this place! The teachers are willing to help by all means and you can become a student aid as well to work! Has no housing though!

    Campus Safety

It such a small college and everyone knows one another. The campus is small and opened up, that you never feel in danger even at night.

    Greek Life

    There is none

Great for these types of students

Great for those that are more comfortable in a small classroom, or those that are not sure of what degree they want to focus on just yet.

    Bang for the buck

School provides many student lounges which are great to escape to and meet up with friends at. They also have the hall ways of the school covered with the art work of fellow students, which just makes it seem a little more personal of in institution of education.

    What to do for fun

The school is always holding job fairs or fund raisers. There is also the school's sports games to attend.

    Food and Dining

Same food you eat in high school just cost more.

    Dorm Life

    College doesn't have a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are always available for extra help, they'll explain the work in a way that is easy to understand.

    Tips for prospective students

Make an appointment for everything as soon it is available and keep on top of you paper work and deadlines.

    In three sentences

During my first semester I had difficulty with the financial aid department . Now starting my second semester Im finding difficulty with getting a hold of my consular. Other then the few problems with lack of communication, Ive had a pressure attending the college and getting to know the professors.

    Campus Safety

Very secure and safe. On Campus security very visible. I have never had a problem nor none of any problems.

    Greek Life

I was honored to be inducted this December into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society!

    Clubs and Activities

Sports for Men and Women, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, golf, bowling. Chess clubs, hiking clubs, math clubs....

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I must say that all of the Staff support all of their students events and activities! Whether it be sporting events or silent auctions, you will find the majority of people there actually work for Columbia-Greene and are there off hours to support their beloved school!

    Bang for the buck

I am so glad I choose to attend Columbia-Greene CC instead of going away to College. I saved perhaps over $15,000 per year by living home and commuting to school. All of my Credits transferred not only to SUNY Colleges but also Private Colleges I had applied to. So Columbia-Greene CC has allowed me to save money these last two years, while getting my Associates Degree!

    What to do for fun

Pick up games, work out, socialize, ping pong games, attend events and activities.

    Food and Dining

Great food always something new on menu and priced right!

    Dorm Life

    My College doesn't have dorms

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is high, but very manageable with extra help from all the staff.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be shy in asking for help, they are all there to help and more than willing to go above and beyond! Get involved in the many schools activities, sports, clubs, events! Take advantage of all the great services they provide!

    In three sentences

I rate Columbia-Greene CC a 10 out of 0-10 (10 being best)! It is a small school and all the teachers know their students by name and really take the time to know you. Have had the great opportunities of working there and also playing on their basketball and baseball teams-great support by staff!
