Great for these types of students

CSU is great for commuter students, non-Traditional students, first-year students, and Theater students. The college is small, so organizing student activities and study groups can be a bit of a hassle, but with the right group of students, there is more than enough room to accommodate all activities on campus. The Theater program is excellent and well-budgeted. I would recommend this school primarily as a litmus test to new college students to get acquainted with the college before moving on to a bigger school.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to avoid driving as most of the school is contained within walking distance and parking has become a bit of a problem. Utilize all of the school's resources, as many of the tutoring labs are free of charge and can be very helpful in difficult courses. When a Professor mentions extra-credit, take note: extra credit can result in earning a letter grade in some classes. If you do not understand a concept, e-mail your professor, they usually respond to e-mails and are more than happy to help you or find the means to help you succeed in college.

    Bang for the buck

CSU has some of the lowest tuition in the state, which is good for many students who cannot afford tuition at a larger school. However, the low tuition is traded for some programs and luxuries. For instance, there is no Economics, Physics, Philosophy, or Journalism major. There is also the problem of under-staffing. Many of CSU's administrative departments are understaffed, making offices such as Student Enrollment Services and Financial Aid somewhat inefficient. Additionally, some Academic functions of the school, such as the Math and Science lab, are understaffed. However, when a student is able to gain the attention of a Math or Science tutor, they almost always convey information clearly and concisely. However, CSU is currently expanding and more classes will be available in the near future.

    Am enjoying being here

Columbus State has many enjoyable perks. Campus is not very big, so new students should be able to get acquainted to the school fairly quickly. The Cafeteria offers a healthy and diverse selection of foods (and excellent fried rice,) and there are many recreational opportunities for students, such as intramural sports. Additionally, CSU offers a computer lab open 24/7 on Campus, which is quite convenient for students without a printer or laptop. The major downside to CSU is the school's appearance. Some of the buildings appear outdated and are sometimes musky. Another trifle involving the school is the constant construction work on campus, which makes it somewhat difficult to pay attention in class. But, aside from the minor quibbles, studying at CSU is an overally enjoyable experience.

    Am learning a lot

The teaching staff at Columbus State University is excellent. All of the professors are very knowledgeable, helpful, and do their best to create an experience conductive to learning. All the Professors welcome questions (even in larger classes,) offer extra-credit opportunities, and correspond with students regularly via e-mail. In each class I took, every one of my professor treated each student with respect and earnestly answered each question they were asked.

Great for these types of students

    Average (academically) Diversified

    Tips for prospective students

Get a campus map the day you enroll and get familiar with it. Be on time for class. Have the will to learn and you will succeed at this college, that is a guarantee. It's not a college that kicks you in the rear everyday. It's more of a college that just wants you to learn fast and easy. It's not Harvard and it's not hard. The professors want you to learn but they don't try to kill you in the process.

    Bang for the buck

Columbus State University is definitely a bang for the buck college. Everything about CSU is great. The one and only complaint I have is that the cafe is not the greatest restaurant to eat at when you get hungry. However, there is a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen right across from the cafe which is so delicious. There is also a restaurant called Einstein Bros. which offers foods like sandwiches and bagels as well as drinks such as chilled cappuccinos. CSU is by far the best university to enroll in if you want to gain intellect, intelligence, and all other key factors that will prepare you for your occupation. All of this is offered without stealing your hard earned cash from your wallet...or purse.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying Columbus State University thus far in my enrollment. Columbus State University is becoming more and more competitive with the other colleges in Georgia through the erection of new student centers and a recreation center. I believe that it is becoming less contrary with the most widely known college in Georgia called the University of Georgia. While CSU may not offer as many courses or opportunities as UGA it is still becoming a more developed college making it more appealing to the people. None of my classes have been scrutinizing or punishing in the least bit. I have felt relaxed and ready to learn in every class I have taken thus far in my experience at CSU. If you do your work and study than there is no reason you will not pass any of the courses at CSU. There are plenty of organizations and other clubs at CSU that call to the interest of just about everyone. Overall, if you want to go to an average college that offers plenty of open doors for a considerably low tuition fee than you must enroll at CSU. It's a college that will make you feel at home while at the same time make you feel like it is where you belong.

    Am learning a lot

Columbus State University offers a wide range of classes and plenty of opportunities. I am a freshman at CSU and after my first semester of enrollment I have to say that I am learning a sufficient amount of information in a timely manner. The professors that I had last semester seemed very knowledgeable and did not show up to waste people's time. For the most part I believe that it is the student's responsibility to study and really learn the material within a class. However, I also believe that without a good instructor or professor to guide students along the journey of the course, the student's learning experience is much less enjoyable. The professors I have had at CSU make the courses easy and fun while teaching at the same level of many old-fashioned professors. All of my professors I have had thus far have had loads of personality and intelligence. They have all seemed to have a constant thirst to teach students what they're there to learn. The classes I have taken have not been overly difficult yet I have still managed to learn plenty of information.

    Campus Safety

the campus police are highly responsive to any needs. whether you don't want to walk alone or are having car troubles, they are willing to help. there are safety alerts sent through email and text to the students. also, scan card access is necessary to enter most buildings and any level of the dorms. emergency call boxes are located around the campus.

    Greek Life

many greek organizations are available to the students of csu. each organizations harbors people of similar interests, yet they all interact respectfully towards the other groups. each fraternity or sorority hosts events, such as sports games or bake sales, to bring community between the greeks and the school. though there are strong bonds between the greek groups and their members, the students are not kept from having friends among or outside of the greek organizations.

    Clubs and Activities

there are clubs of a wide variety available at csu, from religious groups to the campus nerds to intramural sports. you can join any of the 110 active organizations! there are always events and activities being held for the groups or by the groups. even outside of clubs, the university often holds activities to entertain and involve the students.

Great for these types of students

the main campus is great for the athletic, outgoing, or people looking for the authentic college experience. however, this campus also has a wide variety of campus nerds, self-titled, interested in any form of gaming, graphics, or science fiction. the greek life is very predominant also. on riverpark, you will tend to find the artsy, outgoing people interested in art, theatre, or music. this campus is for people looking for a family-like community, people interested in the arts, or people who love the downtown, city feel.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

for entering freshman, the university throws a week's worth of celebratory events which are fun for students of any year. the main campus is overrun with entertainment and events by the greek life and student clubs, usually occurring daily. the recreation center is definitely an amazing location with so much to offer. on the riverpark campus, there are many odd hangouts and locations. the tables outside of the den and fountain city coffee shop are always filled with students and locals hanging out over food and drinks. one hang out tradition is the third floor of the parking deck. almost regardless of time, there will be a different group of students talking and listening to music, welcoming any passers-by with open arms.

    Bang for the buck

columbus state is very affordable in comparison to many large universities, but as scholarships become harder to obtain and with the state of the economy, student loans are necessary. thankfully, with some perseverance, you can receive generous loans and grants from financial aid.

    What to do for fun

columbus offers entertainment of all kinds. a short drive away there is the cinema, restaurants, and shopping center on whittlesey dr. near the main campus is the columbus mall. riverpark campus lies in the very center of downtown columbus, which offers many shops, restaurants, events, and the quite occasional parade. on campus, there are usually events held by assorted clubs/groups and greek organizations and performances by the arts majors. also the amazing new recreation center has much to offer, including an aquatic center, sauna, and rock wall.

    Food and Dining

the food options vary by campus. on main campus, there is the cafeteria where the food changes daily and is all you can eat. also, there is a chick-fil-a and burger studio which accept cougar cash, an extra part of your meal plan. on the riverpark campus, there is the den which offers an unchanging menu of food, but also has a convenience store selling snacks, frozen foods, drinks, etc. the den also accepts cougar cash. both campuses are within walking distance of many restaurants.

    Dorm Life

because of the two campuses, riverpark and main, two completely different dorm lives are available. on main campus, you will find dorms similar to apartment complexes with a pool and even a volleyball court. downtown at riverpark, the dorms are suite-style. here each room looks different, in both shape and size. also, this downtown community is smaller and like a family.

    Academic Rigor

academic rigor varies depending on what you're studying, of course. some classes are extremely easy due to either the professor or course itself. however, the rigor of classes increases as you focus more on your major.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure to visit both campuses before applying for the school. looking at just one will not give you a complete picture of the university. do sufficient research of what columbus offers. sometimes major programs can be custom-made; also, opportunities like studying abroad or greek life may be overlooked on a simple tour.

    In three sentences

this university has very strong programs for specific majors such as theatre, art, music, nursing, communications, business, etc. there are two different campuses, twenty minutes apart via shuttle, and each offer completely different college experiences. the student community is very close and strong among campuses, majors, or even clubs.

Great for these types of students

Great for students in theater majors and nursing majors.

    Tips for prospective students

Before you choose any college make sure you do all your research. CSU is a great places to be; the campus is safe and the people are nice.

    Bang for the buck

CSU is not very expense; even the vendors that come on campus make things cheap because they know that we are college students on a college budget.

    Am enjoying being here

CSU's faculty and staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. There is always some activity on campus going on so there is really never a dull moment. And like anything else college is what you make it.

    Am learning a lot

Being at CSU I learned how to ask for help when I need it and also to be very independent. Learn to become involved in the community and to be very effective in society.

Great for these types of students

It's great for education majors, history majors, math majors, any kind of majors (well not ANY, ANY kind). It's also great for students who want to have fun and learn.

    Tips for prospective students

When getting into this college, there's things you should know: 1. The professors are really strict about the work and the grades. So when you have work that's due: projects, papers or what not; you have to use your time wisely and try to balance out your schedules very carefully and study a lot. 2. The work load is pretty big in college, so be prepared to due the work and on time. 3. Don't get mixed up into stuff that will take you off track. Having social life is nice and all, but remember this is college. There are things to do that are more important. 4. Make to have a major that's right for you and stick with it. Some people come and expect there majors to be easy and fun. Not really. There is a lot more to know than just learning how to read and count. You have to learn everything in order to get where you need to be. 5. Always check with your advisors about your classes that is required for your major and other things. Because at times like these, you may register for a classes that are not even required and might mess with your chances. So always look and check out the classes before you register. 6. Always be on time to your classes, because if not, not only you will be counted tardy, you will be counted absent too. (unless you have an acceptable excuse) Always be prepared for certain situations and always be ready for the pressure that will hit you. Regardless of those things, there's always a way. You have to see things through.

    Bang for the buck

It is cheaper for students who are living in the same state as the college. But of course, college is never cheap. You have to pay for a lot things. But you won't have to worry as you applied for financial aid and things.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm enjoying a lot things about this school. The professors are nice and pretty good instructors. The students are nice and helpful. And the student success center is very helpful if you have any problems at all.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot of things at this school. There programs you can't even imagine. It has really good programs.

Students who like not-too-big campuses and one on one time with teachers.

    Tips for prospective students

Check ratemyprofessors.com! It's a life saver when it comes to picking your teachers. I did not use it for my 1st semester and I got a teacher I did not really like, but now for the 2nd semester, I went online to Rate My Professors and I know I'm going to love my teachers!

    Music Students. Nursing and Education.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't drive to school if you live on Camus, the shuttles are very good. Own a laptop. If you intend to live on campus, stay downtown. The atmosphere is very good. Don't buy a too big meal plan, the food is not extraordinary.

    Bang for the buck

CSU is very affordable compared the academics you are getting. Especially if you are going for the music program, nursing or Education program.

    Am enjoying being here

I live at Riverpark, the downtown campus. The campus is situated near coffee houses and restaurants. Live music is only minutes away. The students are very enthusiastic and want to succeed in their own major.

    Am learning a lot

The Music program at CSU is excellent. The size of students in every class is very small and the professors are very good in their own field.

Columbus is great for any type of student.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should try to get involved in campus as much as possible even if it is only to meet new people or get out of the house. I met some life long friends that I met at a random event on campus.

    Bang for the buck

I believe Columbus is about average in the cost. The only thing I did not like was how much I paid for my meal plan because I felt I did not use it enough to be required to pay that much.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Columbus State I am active on campus and have made a lot of friends. I joined a sorority and intramural sports. There is always something going on throughout campus.

    Am learning a lot

I have attended one other college besides Columbus State University. By far, Columbus is the best. Classes are not too big and the professors offer a lot of help. Classes keep me entertained and active in the learning process. Even classes such as history that you take all your life can be made interesting.

Great for these types of students

I went to thescon this year, and took a tour with my parents a short while afterwards: the campus seems to be built with performing arts students in mind.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure that you look everywhere before making your decision. though transferring is most definitely an option, you have to go through all of the same things that you went through to apply the first time.

    Bang for the buck

one of the lowest tuitions that i have found while researching, and a great school for those performing arts kids, from what my friends have told me.

    Will enjoy being here

i haven't seen much of the living quarters or any other student buildings,

    Will learn a lot

the theatre program appears to be fairly well done,. though it has a focus on the classics from what i have seen.

ANY TYPES. I know that a lot of people think it is only good for commuter students, but I actually enjoyed living on campus. There are a lot of people living on campus now, and also a lot of people commuting. Either way I'm sure you can find a way for it to work for you!

    Tips for prospective students

GET INVOLVED! Don't stay in your dorms all day. Go out and explore campus, I guarantee you that you will find something you are interested in. Also, if you're a commuter student you need to get involved too! Don't just come to school and leave. CSU has a lot more to offer than people think. Honestly, your college experience is going to be what you make it, so make it great! I know I am.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is always a problem when it comes to college; however, I do think you get your money's worth at CSU. The cost of tuition here is much lower than many other schools in Georgia.

    Am enjoying being here

I really didn't think I was going to like CSU very much, and actually planned on transferring out after a year or so but I turned out to love it! I am involved in a lot of stuff on campus, and since it is a smaller campus it makes it easier to get involved. I'm in the Servant Leadership program at CSU and love how involved in the community it is. Also, I'm in a sorority and that has made it really enjoyable! But no matter what you enjoy, I'm sure you could find it at CSU.

    Am learning a lot

I have found that a majority of the Faculty and Staff members at CSU love their job. They want to teach and they want you to learn. Since the class sizes are relatively small it isn't difficult to interact with other students in study groups or group projects. Also, it makes it easier to build a good academic relationship with the teachers. They are willing to help and offer some great advice on how to better your education.

    Campus Safety

Columbus State is located in a safe area in Columbus and there are many campus police everywhere on campus. Safety is not a problem at all!

    Greek Life

There are sororities and fraternities, and the chances of becoming a sister or brother is high. There are no Greek houses but there is a Greek center where many activities are held for Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs and organizations and if there is not one for you, you can make your own! My advice for any student interested in a specific club is to call or contact the sponsor of that club directly (do not go to the student center for advice). The office who deals with student activities generally gives the run arrounds because they themselves aren't sure of all the clubs. Therefore I would get the head sponsor's contact information and contact them yourself.

Great for these types of students

I would recommend Columbus State only to students who want to attend a small university. The chances of getting involved with an extra curricular activity is very high because it is a small school and extra curricular programs are always looking for students. I would recommend any student that is willing to jump in and involve themselves with activities on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition at Columbus State is considered rather cheap compared to most schools therefor in my opinion it is a descent school. Classes are clean and the maintenance is well kept, and it rare that you will find broken resources.

    What to do for fun

The gym is amazing!! It is actually my favorite place to be on campus. Columbus State's gym is a three story state of the art gym, and there is always a workout class in session! There are also tons of intramural sports!

    Food and Dining

There are a few restaurants on campus and convenient stores. All of which in my opinion are over priced, especially for college students.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived in the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers and teaching styles vary. I have had teachers who are very easy and seem to let anyone pass the class, but I have also had teachers that are reasonably challenging. My advice would be STUDY and prioritize your time; know when it is okay to have fun and when it is time to study.

    Tips for prospective students

I would reccomend Columbus State only to students who want to save money and complete core classes then plan to transfer. I would advise that you ASK QUESTIONS about any and everything you are unsure of. The financial aid's office and registrar's office is a bit unorganized so it is very important that YOU ask the questions and do not stop until you get the answers.

    In three sentences

Columbus State is a rather small school. Generally, classes do not fill up (unless the teacher is one that everyone wants) quickly, and the teacher to student ratio is reasonable. The only way to have fun is to find an extracurricular club and GET INVOLVED!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

intramural sports, concerts, downtown campus has many events

    Food and Dining

    Recently put in a chik-fil-a

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

This University has a great environment. The sports, activities, and gym are all great ways to live healthier lives and meet new people. The wide range of professors make the college learning experience that much better.

Great for these types of students

If you know what you are looking for and even if you don't there is something to do.

    Bang for the buck

The separate campus area, Riverpark, offers more stuff to do and is very scenic.

    What to do for fun

I am a part of the Campus Nerds. We have events that specialize in gaming, anime and TCG. We also host the largest free convention in the state of Georgia.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember to study hard your freshman year so that you make all A's. Take summer classes as soon as possible. Find internships that specialize in your field.

    In three sentences

The housing is satisfactory in private/private. The teachers strive to improve their students chances to get jobs in the Computer Science field. The overall atmosphere of the area is very positive and their is always something to do.

    What to do for fun

At least twice a month our Greeks throw parties off campus. The Greeks throw the best parties in the city of Columbus. Downtown Columbus there are alot of bars to go to on the weekends. For fun there is always sports games to attend where the fans are very interactive. All-year round sports are Division 2 sports are played whether its soccer, basketball, or baseball. Our baseball team is always among the top ranked Division 2 schools in the nation. There is also many intramural sports to participate in such as flag football and volleyball. There is also a state of the art recreational center.

    Food and Dining

The dining at Columbus State is average. We have a chick-fil-a on campus which is the most reliable food source. We have fried-chicken Thursday every Thursday if the school year which is most people's favorite cafeteria day of the week. On this day they serve more of a soul food type of menu. There is also the Den on Columbus State's downtown campus where they have a full convenience store and hot-orders can be made such as pizza, sandwiches, and a buffet-style hot meal.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is cool. The resident assistants are always planning events in the respective club houses of each court yard for the students that attend CSU not only for the students that live in that specific courtyard. Events such as these are good ways to meet new people, most likely the ones you live around. The dorms are all apartment style and come fully furnished.

    Academic Rigor

Academics aren't very hard at Columbus State. Everything is do-able. You just have to come in with an open-mind and the willingness to work hard to get the kind of grades that you want to maintain.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest you apply early for the school if you are interested. Upon acceptance you should also apply for housing early if you decide to go here because certain types of housing can go quick. Columbus State has a lot to offer as tours are offered daily so for any prospective students our Discovery Day is something to look forward to.

I'm already comfortable in my decision to go to CSU since I visited the campus so often. I've made friends already and have a good feel on where everything is, which is crucial since the two campuses are a bit confusing.

I recommend pre-med students go to CSU first and go through all the Biology classes first. You will have a better chance at getting into a really good medical school and learn a lot. Also, the music program is amazing. You can have fun and get your studies done without stressing.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't procrastinate and don't be afraid to ask questions. Take the tour they offer, it will really help you get a feel for campus life and all the great activities they have to offer.

    Bang for the buck

I do not live in Georgia, but in Phenix City, Alabama where CSU gives you a waiver so I don't have to pay out of state tuition and really helped out and saved a lot.

    Will enjoy being here

The campus is amazing, everything is within walking distance, aside from the Music campus which is on Broadway, but it is still amazing and all the leaders, and just everyone there is a joy to be around with plenty of school spirit.

    Will learn a lot

I have heard so much about all the wonderful teachers and staff members at this school and every time I am there, I feel at home.

Great for these types of students

When I was looking at colleges, I wanted one that had less than 10,000 students. I didn't want to go to a university like UGA or Georgia State; I wasn't ready for a big city or gigantic school. If you really just want to go to a school in a moderate-sized city and feel like you're a part of a community, I think CSU is for you. There's always something going on in Columbus or on campus. And if you do want to go to Atlanta for the weekend or something, it's not that far away.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! I kept hearing this from older friends, my parents, my older sister, and at orientation - it's true. Even if you are from Columbus, you need to meet new people. The only way to feel at home and comfortable is to have a group of people that you can hang out with. There are so many clubs and organizations that I'm sure everyone can find something. Also, if you're having trouble with a hard class or learning how to study, go to the Academic Center for Excellence (in Schuster) and ask for a tutor. Even if you only meet a couple of times, it can really help. I've heard the Writing and Math labs are really helpful, too.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely feel like I'm getting my money's worth. The facilities are in good shape, the professors are attentive when you need help, and there's always something to do. If you don't have a car, you can easily get to the downtown campus and back on one of the shuttle buses. Dr. Mescon is extremely involved with the students and faculty; I can actually point him out to you (and I'm sure most of my friends at other universities can't say the same thing about their president). I would like to see more options for food, but I can always run over to the mall (which is two blocks over) to grab a bite.

    Am enjoying being here

I haven't gotten as involved as I would like yet because of my schedule, but I love that there are a ton of different groups and organizations to get involved with. There's always something going on at the clock tower or the downtown campus and if it isn't free, it's very cheap.

    Am learning a lot

A few years ago, CSU was a sub-standard university. Now that Dr. Mescon is in charge, it is quickly changing for the better. I feel like I'm going more in-depth about the things I learned in high school, not just re-learning them. It has been a great experience so far.

    Campus Safety

The school is safe for the most part or from what I know. Of course, there are altercations here and there this is college as well as life nothing is perfect nor is it preventable somethings happen. Its apart of growing up how you deal with the things that happen in college. Especially when it come to your own safety.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life here is diverse enough to call it college there might not be Fraternity houses or Sorority house, but they Greeks still know how to show up on campus and be apart of the school.

Sometimes people are in the trees just relaxing. My group of friends are usual doing something spontaneous like climb up into trees and just relax and talk.

    Bang for the buck

Personally to me its worth it. I don't want to go to a school that everyone is a number. Here at Columbus State University, if you interact with the teacher they interact right back.

    What to do for fun

For fun I hang out with my friends. Its quite easy to form bonds here with the people inside and outside of the school.

    Food and Dining

The food is great and it stays on the health side. it might not be so much fast food but there's a variety here and there.

    Dorm Life

Sometimes the school becomes swamped with so many incoming students, they are moved to other living areas almost hotel like. This is more of a older traditional dorm accommodations that are upgrading every year.

    Academic Rigor

The courses are quite challenging. The teachers are kind enough to guide you in the direction but this is not cake walk. Its not as easy as high school. The science department and the computer science departments I must say are very rigorous.

    Tips for prospective students

Staying on top of your studies should always be first priority.

    In three sentences

The school is very diverse, there are many people here that one just wouldn't expect. The school is not a big but it feels comfortable enough that you feel as though your not just another number. The environment is one that can be enjoyed if your not one for getting home sick.

Campus safety is great. There is always campus police available and they will escort you if necessary. They are quick to respond.

    What to do for fun

There is an on campus gym with everything from exercise equipment to a pool, climbing wall and indoor basketball area. At Riverpark there is access to the Chattochee River where they will be opening a whitewater area. There is also a long bike and walking trail.

    Food and Dining

The campus offers a build your own burger place, Chick-fil-A, Einstein Bagels and the campus cafeteria is not that bad either. Server your own Blue Bell ice cream is a great addition.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is an experience. Sharing a room is a very different experience and can take some getting use to. The Riverpark dorms are very nice and I highly recommend the area.

    Campus Safety

University Police Headquarters is located on campus and they patrol the housing areas everyday and night. Recently they put up gates for the different main campus courtyards in order to secure the safety of the residents. Students need their IDs to get into their courtyards after a certain hour at night.

    Greek Life

There are lots of different Greek organizations at our school, many for someone to choose from and pick the one they want to be apart of. By just walking around the school you could tell that Greek life is important at our school because we have a building dedicated to it and they are many trophy cases showing their awards.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many Clubs and Organizations to choose from here that including your classes you could never go bored during a regular school day.

Great for these types of students

There is a shuttle bus that takes students to Main Campus and the Downtown Campus if they do not have a car or would just like to save a little gas money. There is also an exceptional gym that was opened in the Spring 2011 semester so it is fairly new

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year there is some sort of tailgating event for football for the surrounding areas. This school year the Classics were held down here.

    Bang for the buck

Columbus State has one of the cheapest tuition in Georgia for a University.

    What to do for fun

If you have a car most of the time the possibilities are endless for you here. Every weekend there is usually some sort of an event that some organization at the school is hosting. There is a mall across the street from the school, plus there are many restaurants all over. There is lots of sports at our school like Basketball, Baseball, and tennis so there is always games to go to.

    Food and Dining

The Cafeteria has its good days and bad days , For some people it takes some getting used to but it has a nice variety everyday. There are other options like Chick-fil-A, Burger Studio, and Einstein's Bros Bagels. The Downtown area also has its own eatery with some options different than main campus because main campus is buffet styled.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are apartment styled and there are three different main campus courtyards to choose from. There is also a downtown housing area for mostly art majors but anyone can live there if you choose to. The downtown area looks a little different compared to the main campus area even though it is only fifteen minutes away. It is nicer if you like the downtown feel but not Atlanta styled downtown and it is not Apartment styled like main campus. Most people have to share a room downtown but you can have your own room on main campus .

    Academic Rigor

Leave procrastination behind in high school because it is important to keep your GPA up and do not try to have fun all the time sometimes you just have to be serious.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a city life for school then Columbus State should not be your choice. It is nothing like Atlanta.

    In three sentences

Columbus State University is not what I expected it to be from my summer 2010 orientation. It is a little better than I expected and a little worse. However, I cannot imagine being anywhere else, I thought about transferring for my sophomore year, for a different experience, but I just didn't want to have to start over, when I like how things are at the school I am at.

    Food and Dining

Campus food is only good on Thursday for fried chicken day. The food in the cafe downtown is good. the chick- fil-a, Einsteins, Burger shack, and the pods are all too expensive for what they offer. They're more expensive than going to those places outside of the campus. your cougar cash will be depleted before the end of the semester.

    Campus Safety

The safety is what caught my mom's attention about this school. To access anything in the school or dorms you need a personalized ID/scan card. No average person could just walk in, which is a very comforting feeling. There are also police buttons scattered across the campus which you can push in case of an emergency. You can also call the campus police at anytime to walk you somewhere if you are uncomfortable walking around alone. There is a police office on every campus so you, or your parents, never have to fret about your safety.

    Clubs and Activities

There's no reason to not get involved with something in this school! There is constantly activities to do and clubs to join. They are all very welcoming and always looking for suggestions on more to do.

Great for these types of students

If you are interested in a music degree, this is the place to go! They're music program is the best one around! The teachers are award winning, the students represent the school in many competitions and always seem to come out on top, and you will NOT walk out of there an average musician. You will walk out ready, prepared, and on fire for music.

    Bang for the buck

Great teachers, wonderful atmosphere, incredible living environment and all for a fairly cheap price. The in-state tuition is very reasonable! If you receive the Georgia Hope Scholarship, you should be able to attend the college for next to free, like many of my friends. It is much more difficult to afford if you are out of state like myself, however, if you work and strive enough you can receive an out-of-state waiver as I did.

    What to do for fun

There is quite a bit to do around the college. There are your basics such as, shopping, movie theater, bowling, mall, etc. But, there are also many historic things to see, such as the army museum. There are many nature and animal related adventures to partake in such as the drive though safari and oxford meadows. For those 21 and up, there area few clubs and many bars in the downtown area. One of the great attributes to the area are the many musical and theater events which take place; there is always something happening.

    Food and Dining

The buffet on the main campus is very good! However, it does lack on the river park campus. We are limited as to what we can receive creating frustration for the students.

    Dorm Life

Everyone who came to visit my dorm would question, Is this a dorm or an apartment?! They are all HUGE, fully furnished, one bathroom for two people, no community kitchen (common area for four), very clean, quiet atmosphere, and overall perfect! I would not wish to live anywhere else.

    Academic Rigor

There is nothing easy about this college. This university strives to challenge you in order to ensure that you receive the knowledge needed to not only complete the course successfully, but to provide knowledge that will carry us through the years and careers to come.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to work and strive to succeed in your time here. However, you need to know that it's okay to have fun and relax sometimes. I found out my freshman year that you'll end up driving yourself crazy if you do all work and no play. So remember, work hard but have fun!

    In three sentences

Columbus State University is an incredible school filled with encouraging teachers, driven pupils, and the education to lead you, successfully, on a path to a new life. The university understands the importance of the education, but, they also understand how important it is establish the student as a person and person they wish to become. The university is thoroughly welcoming and truly shows an interest in everyone of their students and prospective students.

They're great. They respond quickly to emergencies and are always willing to give you a helping hand. Sometimes they can be a bit overbearing but it's obvious it's because they take their jobs very seriously.

    Greek Life

The Greeks are very active on the CSU campus. It's a lot of fun to see their energy and excitement even if you aren't a part of an organization.

    Clubs and Activities

From my knowledge there seems to be a high number of clubs on campus but it's kind of hard to find out about a lot of them unless you know someone that's already involved. Once you're in though, I find it's a great experience.

Great for these types of students

If you like small campuses where everyone seems to know everyone else then you'll love it here. If you like a place where you can sort of blend in with the crowd until you decide who you want to notice you then you'd be better off at a larger school.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, it's a pretty cheap school. Not a bad price for what you're getting.

    What to do for fun

Other than events, on main campus there's the brand new recreation center. The workout equipment in there is really nice and they even have a lazy river. There's also the Davidson Center which has pool tables and lounge chairs for students to chill between classes. Downtown campus is near multiple shops and restaurants, most offering discounts to CSU students.

    Food and Dining

I've never really eaten anything on campus that I didn't like, but they could stand a few more options. If you don't have a meal plan then the options they have come across as a bit pricey.

    Dorm Life

The older dorms for underclassmen obviously pale in comparison to the updated ones and it seems a little unfair. They're comfortable enough though, but are very drafty. The residence and maintenance staffs are very good at their jobs however and will do whatever they can to make sure you're safe, comfortable and having fun.

    Academic Rigor

It's a pretty easy school as far as an associates degree goes. You just have to be sure to keep up with assignments and you're as good as golden.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to do your own research on certain programs and opportunities. While you may see a lot of posters advertising certain campus organizations, you have to do a little digging and mingling on your own to actually find out how to join a lot of them. It's very important to stay in the loop here if you want to be active and not miss anything.

    In three sentences

Small campus makes for easy navigation. Most classes have a one-on-one feel but the lecture classes can be a little slack there. It has a welcoming environment and encourages students to become involved.

The Rec Center has many options of things for students to enjoy. There is an amazing indoor pool area with many types of pools all for students use. There is also basketball, racket ball, indoor tracks, weight rooms, a rock climbing wall, and many more things for students to enjoy all in that one building. There are also many clubs and organizations always meeting and hosting events for everyone to enjoy. If you live in housing then there are constantly events and socials going on, along with many rec and game areas always open for students use. Outside of the campuses there is a mall, movie theatres, bowling, shopping, TONS of restaurants, parks, and many more things all within just a few miles.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall on Main Campus is a typical dining hall with many choices. Only about once a week is there a day when I am not satisfied eating there. On the RiverPark campus The Den is undergoing major changes for the fall 2012 semester that is supposed to improve the choices, quality, and atmosphere for the students on that campus.

    Dorm Life

Living on the RiverPark campus is by far the best college housing experience I have ever heard of. You are in a downtown setting with full apartments as your college dorm. There are tons of housing events, and it is an awesome community to live in.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes can be very challenging. However, some are not if you just do your work and do not slack off. Also due to the small class sizes it is very easy to get to know your professor and be able to ask questions and meet with them in their offices.

    Tips for prospective students

All prospective students should visit both of CSU's campuses. Get a tour of not only the classrooms but dorms and rec areas as well. Come to CSU with an open mind and ready to get involved in all sorts of clubs and groups, because there are lots.

    Campus Safety

CSU has twenty-four hour safety security and everyone is given the University police number at orientation in case they run into any trouble. The police will even come out and help you if your car runs out of gas.

    Clubs and Activities

Everyone is always treated equally and with open arms in all CSU clubs and activities.

Great for these types of students

CSU has something for every type of student.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The theater complex in River Park is gorgeous and has beautiful scenery for those who look for tranquility.

    Bang for the buck

CSU is definitely worth it's money. Not just in experience, but in opportunity.

    What to do for fun

Many free events are held by the Columbus State clock tower where you can almost always find free food and entertainment. If you are looking for some fun off campus there is a mall and movie theater right across the street of Main Campus. If you are looking for some more fun on campus, take the shuttle down to River Park campus for some entertainment and fine dinning with a down town feel.

    Food and Dining

The food is excellent! Every meal you purchase is all you can eat, the cooks can make you almost anything you want, and (bonus) there is always pizza and salad.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! The RA's are not strict, you are treated like the young adult you are, and everyone usually does their best to work together.

    Academic Rigor

Columbus State University takes pride in encouraging their students to do the best they can. The work load may be a little intense at times and difficult at others but there is always a free tutoring service, and the professors will always try and work with you.

    Tips for prospective students

I definitely suggest for incoming students to take advantage of on campus housing. The price is very much worth all the extras you will receive while attending CSU. Also I would suggest using the shuttle provided by the college as much as possible.

    In three sentences

Columbus State University is a very prestigious school in the eyes of it's students. This University was my first and only choice when I moved to Georgia in eight grade. CSU provides a great academic experience as well as a wonderful community feel.

    Campus Safety

CSU has a multitude of officers all around campus at all times whether its lunchtime or 3am. There are also safety call boxes located around campus in case of emergency. CSU officers are also able to help with car trouble and to act as escorts if you ever feel unsafe going to and from campus. CSU also has shuttles that transport students from housing to campus and the downtown housing and campus as well.

    Greek Life

Greek life is big on campus with multiple fraternities, sororities, and honor societies. They host programs, fundraisers, and parties throughout the year, and every fall and spring they have RUSH, which is where potential recruits sign up to be a member.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many campus clubs and activities from SGA, to honor societies, there are Christian organizations, and one of our biggest groups is Campus Nerds which is self explanatory. There are intramural sports, and clubs for different majors. CSU has something for everyone!

Great for these types of students

Students who need a school with a low tuition, students interested in Greek life, CSU is a great fit for almost everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year we have the welcome back cougar kickoff event which lasts the first two weeks of classes and has many events such as comedy night, day of service, freshman convocation, lunch with the president, etc. Also every October Kappa Sigma fraternity hosts a shave to save, breast cancer awareness event at the clock tower.

    Bang for the buck

CSU is decently priced, the only problem is verifying what you owe and what your financial aid will cover. The tuition rates increase a little each year but it covers the cost of new construction like the new student rec center, the new library construction and new student housing. They have the best international programs and great scholarships and grants for students wanting to study abroad.

    What to do for fun

Columbus has a lot of fun activities, CSU hosts a range of activities, seminars, and workshops throughout the semester. Cougar kickoff starts off the semester with picnics, foam party, meet the greeks, and a Callaway beach party. Columbus also has an urban white water rafting course downtown along with a new rails to trails bike path that leads from downtown campus to main campus. The Peachtree Mall is across the street with other shopping areas 5-10 minutes away.

    Food and Dining

On campus we have two Einstein Brother's Bagel shops, a Chick-fil-a, Burger Studio, and the cafeteria, along with a provisions on demand and a small market area. The food is decent the only problem is none of them are open on the weekends or late night, so you will have to order out or cook your own meals during those times.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is alright if you get to live with people you choose, there are roaches just like anywhere so always pack a can of RAID. The layout is decent and the Courtyard 1 dorms are newer and nicer than the upperclassmen dorms in Courtyard 2. Residence life hosts a range of activities throughout the semester and the RA's are pretty good.

    Academic Rigor

As far as academic rigor goes it depends on your area of study and your professors, some require more work than others and some majors require extensive work such as the nursing department. For the basic classes required for everyone the workload isn't hard, most of the time its fairly easy and doesn't require too much effort on your part, but it depends on the professor and your academic strengths and weaknesses.

    Tips for prospective students

Financial aid lines are always long so get there early and always have a list of your questions. Always tour the campus or attend a visitation day as you can get many of your questions offered then and you also learn things you didn't know before. If you want a job on campus check out CougarLink or the Career Center early on in the semester before the positions get filled. Also, bring an umbrella, Columbus as a tendency to be full or sunshine and no clouds, then when you get out of class its a downpour, rainboots are a good investment as well.

    In three sentences

Smaller university, campus is safe and offers students many opportunities. The financial aid department is unhelpful and the line is always long, they do not accept outside loans. Many student assistant positions available on campus and with residence life, and the professors are knowledgeable and like to help students.

    Campus Safety

We have our own campus police who are on campus all the time. They can escort you to your dorm if you are frightened something will happen, and they are always watching to make sure no one is hurt. At orientation Campus Police has their own skit in the orientation play where they give out their phone number so everyone can call if needed. Campus Police even host free self-defense classes in the Davidson student center for anyone who wants to learn.

    Greek Life

The campus has many sororities and fraternities, and they are all too happy to have you! Rush week is so much fun, there are so many activities they have planned. Some of them crazier than others!

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs and activities. I have seen the Campus Nerds, the Greeks, and Theater students all over doing things. I personally would like to start a swimming club, but am too busy to run it myself, so I am hoping to start it when I have more time available.

Great for these types of students

There are many different things for many different students to do. If you find something you like then great! If there is something you want to form, just talk to someone about getting it started.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I have heard that we have a Campus Nerds group and they have zombie games sometimes. You are frequently under the surveillance of other nerds, who carry around Nerf dart guns. If a zombie catches a human un-armed or not paying attention, or even the other way around, they will be shot and turned into a zombie/human.

    Bang for the buck

While many schools cost an arm and a leg, I love that it is cheaper for me to attend CSU than other schools I thought about attending. While some of my friends decided to go to these bigger more expensive schools, I stayed here. The workload is the same and there is far more for me to do here than they do at their better colleges.

    What to do for fun

We have a newly built Recreation Center with a built-in track, in-door swimming pool, rock climbing wall and machines or fitness classes for your best work out ever! If you aren't working out, CSU is right across from the Peachtree Mall and cheap (dollar) movie theater. These are a few things to do if there are no free plays, musicals, movies under the stars, or student getaways to go to.

    Food and Dining

CSU has ARAMARK catering to our lunches, which are free during orientation, but you need a meal plan the rest of the year. For everything else, we have a mini-store for groceries, an on-campus Chick-fil-A, an on-campus Einstein Brother's Bagels and an off-campus Burger King. We have some pretty good food!

    Dorm Life

I do not live in the dorms, but plan to soon. My house is near the University, but I see so many students loving their dorm life, so I want to try it out.

    Academic Rigor

Professors are pretty good about your schedule. In fact, most of the time if you need an extension they will give it. If you need help most professors will give you time to see them, and we have a tutoring center if you need extra help!

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely attend any free events given. They can be lots of fun, whether you are on a budget or not. Also if you are having trouble, just let your professors know, you pay them so they are there to help you!

    In three sentences

Columbus State University is a very clean and happy environment. There are many free events that sometimes include free food for students to attend, and I go to most all of them because they are free! I also work in the mornings so I can take night classes, and I know many people who work at night and take morning classes, so the college really works well to fit your schedule!

    Clubs and Activities

Columbus State has clubs galore! Any kind of club you ever wanted to join, I'm certain we have it. Clubs are a great way to meet people, especially those with your same interests. There a re also several healthy choices, and you can request vegetarian and vegan menus if that's what you prefer.

    Dorm Life

I live in downtown(or uptown) Columbus in the Riverpark Dorms. They are amazing. Our security is taken very seriously; we have access cards and you can't get anywhere without them almost. This way only CSU students and their guests are allowed on our campus in in the dorms. There's plenty of space and the cafeteria is close by. The RA's are very helpful and kind.

    Academic Rigor

College is not like high school; it is your responsibility to keep up with your studies, manage your time wisely, and get good grades. Attendance is very important here at CSU. In several classes if you miss a certain amount of days you are formally withdrawn from the course. Also, student's learning environment is crucial because it is important that everyone get the knowledge that they are paying for. If you are disruptive or detrimental to someone else's learning abilities you can be formally withdrawn from the class. Getting good grades is an incentive because they allow you to be eligible for grants and scholarships. No one wants to pay the high expenses of college out of pocket. Columbus State offers a variety of several scholarships.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you are responsible with your belongings, especially those in particular that you need around campus such as your ID card for your meal plans and etc. Also, be sure to create a schedule that is best fitting for you and non-strenuous.

    Campus Safety

It is a very safe campus surrounded by an even better neighborhood of people who are very respectful to students. Also police are very active in patrolling the area all day.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely worth the money to go there especially for how much effort they put back into the school.

    What to do for fun

There are many club opportunities and groups to join on campus that make college there a lot more exciting.

    Food and Dining

CSU has several dinning options and many on campus sites to buy delicious food on the go or for a sit-down environment.

    Dorm Life

Fairly basic with no special features or anything special to set it apart from other schools.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at CSU offer a very wide range of degrees and programs and hires very professional staff members and professors that are very focused on the student getting the material. However much of CSU academics deal with Cougarnet which is CSU's official website for students ,but many of the professors don't use it as they prefer Cougarview which creates a lot of back and forth between teacher and student and can be very aggravating. Other than that if CSU has the degree of your chose I would highly recommends them.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to walk as much of this campus is far apart and most classes aren't as centralized. Also any books that are listed for certain classes should not be bought until after meeting the professor and asking him/ her if it is required.

    In three sentences

I thoroughly enjoyed going to Columbus State University and have had my share of the good and the bad that come with being a student there. It was extremely affordable for a state college and provided a very good environment for learning.

    Bang for the buck

Good education for the price you're paying.

    What to do for fun

Get to be friends with everyone. Seriously. You don't need to join a sorority or frat to have fun here. Meet at the clocktower and introduce yourself to everyone.

    Food and Dining

Never eaten on campus, except for the chick-fil-a. The meal plan is pricy, but there's lots of options. Dining hall on main campus as well as downtown.

    Dorm Life

Live off campus but have visited a few times. They seem nice, like apartment style living. I'd recommend the downtown campus.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are quite difficult where others are a walk in the park. Attainable to every student, however. With hard work and dedication, A's can be made in any class.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose a major and go with it. Find out everything about the teachers that teach your major and get acquainted with them and take their classes. Find a tutor to help you through.

    In three sentences

Columbus State is an excellent small University if you are planning on attending a powerful yet not too pricy college. The education varies from very difficult to pretty easy, but in my major is generally challenging. Meet people around campus you will see every day, but not too small so that there aren't always new people around the corner.

    Campus Safety

The campus is poor in terms of safety. Unlike many other schools, students are not required to have an ID made or carry them around at all times. Non-students have access everywhere but the gym.

    Greek Life

Greek life on campus is very active. Every September, the sororities have a sorority rush event to recruit new members. The sororities and fraternities often sponsor campus events, mostly at the beginning of the Fall term and the end of the Spring term.

    Clubs and Activities

The largest club at CSU is Campus Nerds, who sponsor game nights at least once or twice a month and the largest free convention in Georgia, NerdaCon. SGA claims to be very active, but they don't do as much as one would think.

Great for these types of students

CSU is best for anyone interested in obtaining a general business or marketing degree, education or early childhood degree, or is interested in staying close to home, if they lived anywhere near Columbus, GA.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The school's main campus has a clock tower in the middle. Any school events not held in the Davidson Student Center are usually held there, especially if it involves food usually seen at cookouts or loud music.

    Bang for the buck

Because CSU is a local state university, tuition is relatively inexpensive. For this semester, I paid roughly $3,000 for tuition and fees. The fees, however, are pretty expensive.

    What to do for fun

There isn't a lot to do on campus for fun. Most people live in Columbus, so they go somewhere with their friends such as the Peachtree Mall or Columbus Park Crossing, the movies, Hollywood Connection (more for middle schoolers), and clubs and bars, among other things. It helps to have a lot of friends that live in the area if you are not from Columbus.

    Food and Dining

Food in the cafe is, in my opinion, fairly expensive. They also have a small area across from the cafeteria where they have Chick-Fil-A and soon to be Subway at each restaurant's regular prices. In the library and Howard Hall they have Einsteins Bagels, and in the bookstore they have a small selection of drinks and snacks.

    Dorm Life

CSU is primarily a commuter campus, and I am also a commuter, so I cannot vouch for their dorms. I do know that they have free wifi in the dorms, which is CSU's CougarWave Open connection.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are not very challenging. Georgia, especially Columbus, does not have strict academics, and CSU seems to be trying to dumb down their curriculum to prevent students from dropping out as quickly. You will occasionally find challenging classes, such as Dr. Luck's U.S. History to 1865 class.

    Tips for prospective students

Try not to carry around all your books. The buildings are spread out and take a lot of walking. For example, it takes roughly 10 minutes to walk from the Davidson Student Center to Howard Hall, both which are within sight of each other. If you have one, ride a bike to class. There are bike racks near every building but Howard Hall.

    In three sentences

CSU is a mediocre campus for people who are very likely to change careers within a decade, who do not plan on leaving the area, or who simply cannot afford a better school. The professors are hit or miss: one Spanish professor is a native speaker who will go out of her way to make sure no one is falling behind, and another gives out easy work and barely teaches anything. If you have the chance to attend a better school, by all means, go there, not CSU.

    Campus Safety

NEVER had a problem with safety!

    Greek Life

The chapters down here are centered around stereotypes, but they can be fun.

    Clubs and Activities

Organizations are pretty well established, but it take a lot of effort.

Great for these types of students

Ready to be top of their game, but not able to shine. Students who don't like to get lost in numbers.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Fountain city cafe is where you take girls on first dates. It is a lucky charm around here.

    Bang for the buck

THIS PLACE IS CHEAP AS DIRT AND YOU CAN MAKE IT WORTH EVERY PENNY!

    What to do for fun

The downtown area is great. And greek life is popular around here. You can easily make your own club or organization.

    Food and Dining

All the local stuff can be paid for with meal plan! Not as good as UGA though.

    Dorm Life

I hear the parties in the Theater department are crazy. And the dorms are the nicest you've ever seen.

    Academic Rigor

This school is easy if you make it that way.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready for special opportunities that arise if you are found to be in the top of your class.

    In three sentences

This college is only for Go-getters. Don't go if you're not ready to be top of the class. You can get a lot of attention.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing. They always have many options like pizza, or grilled cheese and burgers to a salad bar everyday. The servers are always really nice and ask you how you day is going.

    Dorm Life

I have my own room and bathroom but I still live with three other people so I still feel like I am experiencing the dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

The classes Im taking right now are challenging enough to where I have to study a lot but not so hard I feel like Im struggling. They have a lot of resources that can help students too like tutoring and the writing center.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with the back to school activities and try to meet new people and become close with your roommates. Don't take classes that will overwhelm you the first semester just take four or five and see how your schedule works for you. Join clubs and see what fits you.

    In three sentences

Columbus State does a very good job of giving plenty of opportunities to meet people with all the back to school activities. They also have really good food and all the professors are very nice about communicating with students and making sure you understand everything.

Stay focused and involve yourself in as many opportunities as you can. Apply for every in house scholarship and take advantage of their study abroad program. Always take advantage from learning from each other and becoming friends because in the art dept. at CSU, you will be together a lot.

    In three sentences

The art department is like a family and you learn more with a closeness you can not get from most colleges. Columbus GA's beautiful river and downtown area make it amazing for young artist to explore their abilities. The department works extremely hard to give their students vast opportunities to become the best artist they can.

    Campus Safety

Our campus safety is top of the line! They can help you get to class safely (IF needed) or they can simply help you get the keys that you locked in your car or even jump start your car for you. They are absolutely wonderful to have around!

    Greek Life

Our greek life just so happens to be the top students in school! You can't go wrong pledging to a fraternity or sorority here.

    Clubs and Activities

CSU has literally dozens of clubs! And if they do not have anything that interests you, you just have to get a group of at least 5 friends and you can start your own. We just about have everything from the campus NERDS to faith based study groups.

Great for these types of students

This school is good for anyone looking for a great college experience, the ability to make great friends, and anyone who likes having fun in their free time.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

A school tradition is the campout under the clock tower. This giant monument serves a great camping spot.

    Bang for the buck

The school is as expensive as other larger schools. I think it is worth it though because you get a beautiful campus, with wonderful teachers.

    What to do for fun

There is the beautiful riverpark campus right in the middle of uptown columbus. There is always something going on. Whenever you get bored, you can't go wrong with riverpark.

    Food and Dining

At CSU there is always something good to eat. From chik fil a, to subway, to the cafes on campus. The best part is, it is all included as a part of your meal plan!

    Dorm Life

The dorms on the main campus are basically apartments. They are some of the nicest around. The dorms on the uptown riverpark campus are bigger, and are very new.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are a bit challenging, but after all, you ARE trying to get a degree to become a professional at whatever it is you love to do. However, the class sizes are kept pretty small so that there is a good amount of teacher interaction.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your homework before picking a school! A large school can be just as bad as a very small school. Make sure that your school offers everything you want and need!

    In three sentences

This is a nice sized college that fits the needs of all of it's students. From the very large recreation building, to the jaw dropping river park campus in uptown Columbus. Overall i give this school a 10 out of 10!

We were actually voted in the top 50 safest universities in the nation!

    What to do for fun

There's a lot to do while you are at Columbus State. For instance you can go rock climbing in our student recreation center or get involved in our exercise programs like Zumba! We also plan excursions for students to go horseback riding, zip lining and so much more

    Food and Dining

We have Chickfila, Subway and Einstein's Bros Bagels on campus

    Dorm Life

We have many options for student housing. Students can actually have their own bedroom and bathroom plus a walk in closet! On our main campus we have apartment style housing and at our RiverPark campus we have New York loft style housing.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with groups on campus! If you're worried that you won't fit in any group, just start your own organization! Our largest organization on campus is the Campus Nerds (that's what they call themselves) and they were started by a group of students who didn't feel like they had a group with their specific interests. Now they have events on campus where they've brought people from the Walking Dead to our campus! It just goes to show that there is something for everyone at Columbus State!

    In three sentences

Going to Columbus State was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. The professors go out of their way to make sure students are understanding the material. There's also plenty to do on campus with all of the scheduled events and recreation center activities, so you will never be bored!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Most of the academic buildings on the Riverpark campus are refurnished old mills and armories. They preserved the history and its cool to see everyday as you walk to class.

    What to do for fun

There are several events that happen on Main campus. They are usually hosted by fraternities or sororities. I have not been to many so I don't have much to say.

    Food and Dining

I don't have much to say about the cafeteria on Main campus because I have only been there once. Its is buffet style eating and it all looks clean. I do have a lot to say about the Riverpark dining. We have a place called the Den. Over the years I has been pretty inconsistent. For the first semester here, the food was great although there were not many healthy options. Then for the next year and a half the food was pretty bad. You never knew whether you were gonna get what you ordered or even if they kept track of your ticket. Everything was fried and pretty bland. I stopped eating there for a while because of it. Then the Den moved to a new location. This new location, where it is located now, is much cleaner although kind of out of the way. The food this last year has gotten progressively better. They have extensively expanded their selection and the quality of the food and service has significantly improved. The hot meal is still pretty bland but they occasionally have specials that are quite good. Their ordered meals are very tasty and there are a lot more healthy items. Its not the best but they have made leaps and bound from what they used to be.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived on Main Campus so I don't really know much about them. I will say that they look really nice and seem to be easy to get to. I live on Riverpark and we have been spoiled here. The dorm spaces are huge. We have our own fully stocked kitchen and the beds aren't bad either. Depending on which building you live in on Riverpark you may end up in a relatively new building or a historic building. One of the coolest dorms, at least in my opinion, is the Rankin which is a renovated hotel. Its so cool to live among the history in the heart of downtown Columbus. All of the dorms down here are wonderfully located as well

    Academic Rigor

The rigor of the academics depends on what major you are. I am a theatre performance major and the hardest classes I've had to take are more difficult due to work load or professor incompetency rather than difficulty of the class.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip would be explore both campuses. They both have awesome opportunities from cool events and sports on Main campus to art exhibits and theatre performances on the RiverPark campus

    In three sentences

Columbus State has a good variety of majors and minors. There are two beautiful college campuses. Although it is small, it can be a great school to go to.
