Categories Comments Great for these types of students *Student who don't exactly know their major * students who have struggled in high school(supportive services staff is excellent)
Tips for prospective students * get involved * if you go through a financial issue in the year apply for financial aid * make friends
Bang for the buck Community colleges are much more less expensive than going to a public school. if you don't know what you want to major in, I would advise you to apply for a community college, to start taking general classes first, so you get a feel of what you might want to do. After that you can transfer to the college of your preferred choice
Am enjoying being here even though its not the dorm life, since most students who go to community college commute, they get a better education and if you don't enjoy being there, you can always transfer.
Am learning a lot the learning environment for ccac is outstanding. The class ratio to the teacher is compared to the class ratio of teacher to students in learning in high school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any kind of student.
Tips for prospective students Spend your first 1-2 years at CCAC, you won't regret it. Your wallets and future will thank you. Do some research into the classes you would be taking at other institutions, do well in them and the credits will almost always transfer. You will save thousands of dollars at least in just one year.
Bang for the buck I had a part-time job while I was at CCAC and one paycheck payed for one class. There is absolutely no financial stress and the education is just as good as a 4-year institution. I can even say it was better because the stress level was so low that I could concentrate on academics better and my grades sky-rocketed.
Did enjoy being here I attended the North Campus of CCAC for my classes and I loved it. The building is clean and open, the atmosphere was great for studying. They had a 2-story library with study carols in the second floor and computers on the first. There was a separate computer lab with free printing. The rooms are easy to find. Students also get discounts off of tickets for activities all around Pittsburgh including (but not limited to) Pirates Games, Phipps Conservatory, and the Zoo. I would usually stay on campus hours after my classes had ended either studying or just relaxing. Also, registering for classes was completely hassle-free. I loved CCAC overall.
Did learn a lot I attended CCAC after a year at an expensive private 4-year college. If it was an option I would still be at CCAC. The Community College stereotype is one that needs to be re-written. The classes at CCAC were the exact same quality as anywhere else. The classes had challenge, the teachers cared, and I left feeling enriched. I took classes over the entire spectrum and I was happy with every one. I ended with all of my expectations fulfilled. I would suggest Community College to anyone and everyone.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students A great college to get on the fast track to the career you are seeking for. It's cheaper and quicker and just the best way to go !
Bang for the buck This is the reason that I attend a community college. Instead of paying 30,000 a year in a university and attending the same classes I am now I pay 80% less. Definitely a bang for the buck !
Am enjoying being here Not only does schooling give me something to do instead of sleeping in till 2 in the afternoon everyday but it's helping me to achieve my goal. Very enjoyable !
Am learning a lot The teachers here are all different yet all the same in the fact that they all want you to acquire knowledge and to succeed in life. I am definitely learning a lot and will continue too.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there are friendly security guards spread throughout the school, and the groundsworkers keep the campus clean.
Great for these types of students commuters, those with jobs off campus, anyone paying their own way through school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus several building on campus are registered with the national historic registry.
Bang for the buck a great value for the price. although many of the classes are taught by the same professors as other big name schools in the area, ccac is only a fraction of the cost.
What to do for fun ccac features several social clubs, including sports, music, and religious groups. the students lounge has several different rooms to hang out in, as well as an open access pool table.
Food and Dining ccac's allegheny campus features a small cafe with fresh meals each day, as well as vending machines and several restaurants within walking distance.
Dorm Life ccac does not have dorms, although there are several study areas as well as social halls and activites.
Academic Rigor although the classes are challenging, the teachers make themselves available for assistance, and tutoring sessions are simple to arrange.
Tips for prospective students if you plan on transferring to a 4-year school, be sure to identify your program early, and schedule your classes to fit your needs.
In three sentences community college of allegheny county is a wonderful low cost alternative to larger colleges and universities. it's campuses and centers are spread out through allegheny county, so everyone is near a campus. ccac works with many area schools to ensure transferability of credits.

Categories Comments Campus Safety great security staff is present even after the latest night classes.
Great for these types of students for anyone looking to get started at or get back in school.
Bang for the buck for the price per credit there is no better place to start your college education or get a degree to advance your career.
What to do for fun there are a wide variety of clubs and organizations which provide opportunities for students to get involved, make friends, and have fun.
Food and Dining food is available at the cafeteria with a wide selection of options at reasonable prices to satisfy every hungry student.
Academic Rigor the classes are interesting and challenging and prepare students for the workforce or for transfer to a 4-year college or university.
Tips for prospective students visit the counseling and student services offices and get enrolled as soon as possible. don't put off your education any longer.
In three sentences the community college of allegheny county is a great school with teachers who are passionate about their fields and seeing their students succeed. it offers great value with affordable classes and a school-wide commitment to helping keep textbook prices low. the campus is convenient and all the faculty and staff are friendly and genuinely interested in helping students with their studies.

Categories Comments Campus Safety 24 hour security in a safe neighborhood in my experience.
Greek Life Not much Greek life. I think those types of organizations are more predominant at university.
Clubs and Activities There are few clubs which students can join. At the beginning of each semester there is a club showcase/recruitment day. Students can explore the different clubs options on campus.
Great for these types of students Great school for students not sure of what direction they want to go academically; great for adult learners; and really good for students on a restricted budget.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During the Spring live bands play in the center courtyard. Other than that, not much. It is a small school.
Bang for the buck Overall, this school is a good deal for your money. Especially compared to the pricey four year institutions in the city. I think all students planning to attend Pitt should really consider going to CCAC first and transferring, especially if they are a resident of Allegheny county. It is a really good deal economically.
What to do for fun Pittsburgh is a good town; baseball, football, casino, and lots of bars. The school is walkable from the football and baseball stadium. I live in an area called Shadyside and drive to school. The parking at school is free for students.
Food and Dining Food is not the greatest. I try not to eat on campus because its not the healthiest but there is a salad bar. There is also a subway two blocks away, and on the street behind campus are a few bars and restaurants.
Academic Rigor As someone who has taken classes at a four year institution, the difficulty is about the same as my previous school. However, the classes are small so there is more of a personal relationship with the professors. If concerned about academic rigor, make your advisor aware and they will assist you in organizing the specific courses you should take together to help lighten you load.
Tips for prospective students Be patient during your initial class registration. It can be frustrating, but after you go through the process once, it becomes much easier the second time. After completing one semester, you will have the option for priority registration which speeds up the process. Also, confirm that credits you plan to transfer will be accepted by a four year institution before you register. Finally, if you are new to the college experience, be prepared for college level courses; the sciences can be difficult.
In three sentences This college is a great deal for your money. I chose it because its reputation with the local universities is very good. The school has been around for over 40 years and is regionally credited.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Plan to spend some extra time on campus, it will be a lot easier to make friends and feel like you belong.
Bang for the buck I was not qualified for financial aid, but the prices are low enough that I wasn't feeling financially stressed while being a full time student and working part time.
Did enjoy being here Although it takes a little longer to get to know people, everyone I have meet have been very friendly. The teachers are also helpful and provide great advice and academic references when asked.

Categories Comments Campus Safety we have excellent security guards.
Bang for the buck i am 62 and still working on an associates. without ccac i would not have the 100+ credits that i do have, and they are not just blow off courses; some are psych and other such deep academics. even though i can't seem to get my maths i feel they must like me or they would have graduated me long ago.
What to do for fun i do not partake of this either but i definitely know there is almost anything you want to do for fun. there was recently a trip abroad with ccac students; and there is many sport programs available. there is also cultural events. on the spur of the minute i can only say if you think it, want to do it and its legal; ccac will accommodate you somehow.
Food and Dining being as i commute the same would be said about this; but i am aware of the many programs offered at this school and feel that they would only offer not maybe the best but definitely nutritious; as we have an excellent nutrition program.
Dorm Life i commute so i am not knowledgeable about the dorm life.
Academic Rigor after looking up the term rigor i probably would not want to make this a five but the logical exactness of their academics is only as good as the student--if the student does not question then it remains the norm.
Tips for prospective students when the faculty is having a bad day try to cheer them up by being understanding instead of acting like the school doesn't care. they will quickly remember why they are there. always try to be as honest with them as possible; they can't help you solve a problem if they only know half the problem and since they are an educational tool; they welcome a chance to better our environment and education. they are not above using a student to advance education. but they will never abuse that student. nor their situation.
In three sentences i would definitely give them the highest rating possible for various reasons. in their own way they exceed even the ivy league schools. 10 out of 10; 100 out of a 100; whatever the variable they are tops.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students great fo r recovering people and those who are much older and must work during the day.
Bang for the buck very very affordable!
What to do for fun sporting events, girls, and indoor and outdoor sports.
Food and Dining hey you cant have everything!
Dorm Life no dorms
Academic Rigor i wanted it badly, i had changed careers and wanted to help others, but first needed to learn how to let others help me.
Tips for prospective students give 100%, and by all means, show up and learn to listen and listen to learn!
In three sentences this is a great place to start for a man such as myself. having worked for 25 yrs in city government, being a recovering addict, (26 yrs), and had not been in school in 35 years! a wonderful beginning!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students there are alot of young students doing core work before transferring to a larger university, and also older students changing paths.
Bang for the buck the tuition for out of county students took a giant leap, so unless you are looking at the 2 year courses, a states school might be a better option.
Academic Rigor courses are as good as the effort you put into them.
Tips for prospective students see a counselor right away for guidance.
In three sentences ccac has quite a diverse list of courses available, with a nice selection of 2 year or less tracks to follow. the professors are very knowledgeable and caring. the down side is the traveling between campuses.

Categories Comments Campus Safety on campus security officers are posted at the entrance of the parking lot and in every building on campus. not only do they make me feel safe- they are great for asking questions and directions!
Great for these types of students transfer students, dual enrollment students, continuing education, enrichment purposes
Bang for the buck ccac is an extremely affordable school with lots of academic and government aids for those who need it. the book store also offers most books used; i saved 50% my first semester!
What to do for fun allegheny campus is located on the north shore of pittsburgh, minutes away from downtown! pittsburgh offers lots of shopping, sight seeing, parks, theaters, and night life. south side works is my favorite place to go for a walk and just meet new people!
Food and Dining the cafeteria at main campus is a great place to stop in a hurry, but the selection is somewhat limited.
Dorm Life i'm a commuter student, and only wish i could live closer to main campus for student activities and fellowship.
Academic Rigor the level of difficulty in most courses offered here can be measured by the students determination to do well. every college course should be a challenge if a student applies themselves!
Tips for prospective students i would explore all the ccac campus' before choosing where to take classes. the advisors at ccac are great to meet with to answer any questions or even to help decide on classes or a major.
In three sentences ccac is a great school for anyone who wants to continue their education. the variety of programs they offer is amazing! the teachers and students at ccac can help anyone have fun with learning practical information for the future.

Categories Comments What to do for fun what would campus life be without activities?! whether you rather participate or just sit on the sidelines. the community college of allegheny county provides you with major activities, from greek step shows, to stage plays. if you enjoy dancing, acting, or musical instruments, they have a place for everyone.
Food and Dining the chefs cook fresh food everyday. if the meal of the day does not catch your interest, they have a daily menu that you can choose from. if that still does not interest you they can make you what you want by simple request.
Dorm Life unsure what the dorm life is like, i live off campus.
Academic Rigor some courses can be easy, it's all about what you know already. majority of our courses are taught by professor's who's actual careers where what they teach. so you would be getting hands on experiences as well as the proper education.
Tips for prospective students just make sure that you are confident in what you want, and your ambition will pave the way to your success.
In three sentences in my opinion , this college is very convenient. they have four different campus locations, giving you the option to teach or learn at the site of your choice.

Dorm Life I dont live in a dorm.
Academic Rigor You have to be self motivated and willing to push yourself.
Tips for prospective students Be self motivated and ask for help when you need it. Take advantage of the opportunities that come up.
In three sentences They have a great faculty and are willing to get you the help you need to succeed. The campus has opportunities to get to meet people. The campus is clean and inviting

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is security that mostly doesn't seem to pay attention at all.
Greek Life none
Clubs and Activities not really
Great for these types of students commuter students
Bang for the buck I think for a community college they are overpriced with little resources available to students
What to do for fun Pittsburgh is huge so pretty much you can do anything depending on what campus you are at.
Food and Dining none
Dorm Life none
Academic Rigor basically most of the classes are cake courses although some of the professors give you TONS of busywork which is just ridiculous.
Tips for prospective students there are a lot of adjunct faculty members here which means no office or office hours so if you choose and online course or even hybrid course be prepared to study yourself

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very safe at our location at Washington Crowne Center. Located in a nice area and a well lit parking lot with security to walk me to my car if I request, makes me feel protected.
Great for these types of students CCAC is great for: older adults wanting to get back into school, 18-19 year olds who aren't quite ready for dorm living or being away from home, any student who is financially strapped for cash, those who just want to knock out the basic courses before continuing on at a University.
Bang for the buck CCAC per credit hour price is around 90.00 for Alleghaney Co residents and 195.00 for Washington Co residents is a bargain compared to Waynesburg University at around 500.00 per credit hour. That's why CCAC is my choice for earning my Child Development degree.
What to do for fun I really don't have any suggestions on what to do for fun since my courses and my job consume most of my time. Therefore, any extra curricular activities the school might offer are not on my radar. One nice thing with the school being at the mall is there might be time for some recreational shopping therapy!
Food and Dining The location where I attend is located at the Washington Crown Center Mall. There are several places to eat at the mall such as China Express, Subway and a pizza shop. The other option for a sit down restaurant is Garfields which is nice and the food is really good.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life offered at CCAC here in Washington County.
Academic Rigor The classes offered at this college are interesting and thought provoking. Classes at CCAC will challenge and inspire students. The workload is average but not overwhelming.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you plan out all of the classes you will need to finish your degree in a timely manner. Meet with an advisor to help you chart your course. Apply for any and all grants and scholarships, every little bit helps.
In three sentences This college is great for students off all ages. It is very cost effective and convenient. I would recommend this college to all my friends.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Every once in a while you will hear about a robbery or a break-in on campus, but this isn't very often. Security guards patrol several of the campus buildings, and if you feel uneasy, there are phone numbers posted inside most of the academic buildings that you can call for a security escort.
Clubs and Activities There is a variety of clubs and activities on each campus. Many of them do not have strict attendance requirements since many of CCAC's students also work and have children, so join a club to have some fun, even if you can't go very often.
Great for these types of students It is very good for older students returning to school and for traditional students who want to save money on their first few years of college.
Bang for the buck The price of CCAC is very good for the education you get, especially if you live in-county. In-county residents pay less than $100 per credit, and CCAC offers a good education.
What to do for fun I like to read novels, bicycle, and grow houseplants.
Food and Dining The food at the cafeterias is alright and the opening hours are decent.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at CCAC. It is a commuter-only school.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging but not terribly so. Homework is a big thing. Do all your homework and develop a relationship with a tutor, and it is not so bad.
Tips for prospective students Find out where the tutoring services are and get to know your tutors before you are lagging behind in class. Go to class, stay on top of your homework, go to tutoring when you are having trouble, and you should be fine.
In three sentences CCAC is a good school that has reasonable tuition rates and good professors. Its libraries are nice and have a lot of resources, and their Internet service is speedy. Overall, if you are trying to get a good education while saving money, CCAC is a good choice.

Categories Comments Food and Dining the cafeteria food sucks. it's the usual hum-drum fries, chicken fingers, cheese sticks, onion rings. its boring and gross so you may want to brown bag your food from home.
Dorm Life I didn't live in a dorm but I know people that do and they say that it sucks. The people are not friendly and the dorms aren't clean and the rules are very strict.
Academic Rigor Depending on what classes you have you may have a lot or a little homework. I had a semester where I had almost no homework so it was really easy. But I also had semesters where I was overloaded with homework.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are security guards through out the campus and many cameras.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities at CCAC. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to participate.
Bang for the buck At CCAC you definitely get what you pay for. They did raise the tuition this year but you still can not beat the price.
What to do for fun CCAC has many sport teams and clubs to participate in. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to participate in any clubs or sports because I work full time and go to school full time.
Food and Dining CCAC has the BEST coffee. They also offer breakfast sandwiches made to order. They offer fresh pancakes and french toast. For lunch, pizza, chicken fingers, french fries, and so much more.
Dorm Life There is no Dorm Life at CCAC. Students live off campus.
Academic Rigor Community College sets students up for the classes right for them by having each student take a placement test. These placement tests put the student in the classes right for the student. If the student scored low they will put them in a lower class until they can prepare the student for the college level courses. The teachers in these classes specifically, do everything they can to help each student exceed. I feel that is very important and I really appreciate the effort from the teachers.
Tips for prospective students I would suggests prospective students to look over every option before applying to this or any school. I would personally prefer this school because it is cheap and close to home for me. I will say that sometimes the financial aid office and registration office are not as helpful as I would like them to be. They do not really take the time to help you and always seem to be in a rush.
In three sentences Community College of Allegheny County is a good school to consider if you are going to be transferring to a four year institution. I would suggest this school to other students because of the low price and if you are in a hurry to earn a degree.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck You can't beat the price, many campuses to attend, small class sizes, classes at all hours morning, evening, even weekends.
Food and Dining Plenty of choices in the area.
Academic Rigor You wont slide through, you will learn and apply yourself, while still being encouraged and motivated by professors.
Tips for prospective students Great campus, friendly staff and students, just an overall wonderful college experience awaits you so come in join the excitement and get your professional started you won't be sorry
In three sentences The classroom experience is truly exceptional, the professors makes themselves available to you as students. You are an individual, not just another number (name on the roster). The campus is friendly and welcoming, I am enjoying my time here at CCAC.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for the types of students who don't follow concepts as easily as other people, or who need more time to fully understand things gone over in courses because I felt as if each of my courses proceeded at a slower rate that should have been.
Bang for the buck You definitely get what you pay for; which isn't much considering the low-cost of tuition for this school. Don't expect a grade A education when you aren't dishing out the dough.
What to do for fun Since on-campus residency isn't offered, there isn't really much at all on campus to do for fun.
Food and Dining It isn't a requirement to buy a meal plan for this school as it is with other schools (I believe mainly due to the fact that on-campus living isn't offered), but once again I wouldn't be in the place to make remarks on food and dining because I never ventured to the cafeteria.
Dorm Life I don't believe CCAC offers student residence, but even if it did I wouldn't be in the place to make a remark about it because I lived off-campus.
Academic Rigor I guess it all depends on what kind of student you are, as stated above, but this school has eerily similar degrees of difficulty as my high school courses did. I wasn't challenged at all, and a lot of times could receive high grades on exams with little to no effort as far as studying. To put it in the most plain terms, this school is a joke compared to other 4-year B.A. universities that I've attended or have heard about.
Tips for prospective students As usual, make sure to attend all of your classes. Become familiar with your professors so that if some difficulty in your coursework arises, you won't have a hard time going to them to ask for help. If you're assigned homework or reading that is NOT required, do it anyway; it will only help you out in the end, take an extra hour out of your day to understand the material your professor has or will go over to the utmost degree.
In three sentences This school is nearly as difficult as high school was for me; which is not at all. I guess it depends on what kind of student you are, but if you yourself know that you can succeed at a more challenging school, CCAC isn't for you because you won't be challenged. I enjoyed my time at this school, but it was just too easy for me and I didn't feel like I would be taking the information that I've learned there with me in the future to help me with anything.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Security isn't great, but it is getting better.
Clubs and Activities Usual amount of clubs, a lot of variety. Discount tickets at student life. Gym is open to students. Day trips.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One of the halls is supposedly haunted.
Bang for the buck I'm considered out of state, if your out of state don't go here. It is absolutely ridiculous how much I'm paying, around 3x in state tuition and there are no scholarships for out of state students, your better off going to a university. In county tuition is good.
What to do for fun Try and find parking in the morning. Take the bus if possible.
Food and Dining They recently put in a cafeteria that is getting good reviews, it is always packed during lunchtime. There is fast food places walking distance from school; Mc Donald's, Subway, Taco bell, Wendy's. Sadly, there are still no coffee houses.
Dorm Life Off campus only.
Academic Rigor Usually depends on the teacher, day classes are better and you tend to learn more, in least in my experience.
Tips for prospective students Take the placement tests even if your SAT scores are high enough to take 100 level courses. You could score higher and skip over the 100 level course. Don't rely on advisers to help pick your classes, you should find out what teacher to take and make sure classes will transfer to future college.
In three sentences A good school to get required classes, not pertaining to your major, out of the way. Teachers are diverse, fin aid staff is friendly and helpful. Average community college.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck It is a wonderful option. You can save money while working on your associates and transfer to a 4 year school later. I can't say enough wonderful things about CCAC!
Food and Dining Very limited options for food on campus.
Academic Rigor I am continually being pushed academically. The instructors are dedicated and hardworking.
Tips for prospective students Don't be aftraid to ask questions. More than likely, the same question on your mind someone else is also seeking the answer.
In three sentences CCAC offers wonderful opportunities for students straight out of high school and for non-traditional students. It is affordable and easily accessible. The teaching staff are compassionate and knowledgeable.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I would have to say that the safety at this campus is good, and I have never felt unsafe at this school.
Greek Life There is not much of a greek life here.
Clubs and Activities I am rating this a three becasue they could have a little more activities to do, and I was a little upset that they did not have football.
Great for these types of students Students who grew up in a small community will enjoy this type of school. Someone who likes to know their professors well instead of just being a person in a larger crowd at a bigger school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I would tell you if there were any.
Bang for the buck Very low cost and is worth every penny at this college.
What to do for fun Intramural sports, drama club, college baseball and basketball boy boys and girls.
Food and Dining The food is average not the best food though. It could be better.
Dorm Life If there were dorm I could rate this higher.
Academic Rigor Love the teachers, they are very helpful and will do anything to make sure you pass!
Tips for prospective students If you like a small classroom environment this is the school. Buy used books instead of getting them from the bookstore. To make friends, you need to get involved with the activities at the school, they won't come at you, you have to find them.
In three sentences It is a very pleasant small classroom size. The teachers are very close with the students. You can't beat the cost.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe! They have at least two security guards on duty while classes are in session. They make their rounds and are willing to help anyone in need, espcially if you're lost and looking for a class or If you accidentally lock your keys in your car!!
Greek Life I have no idea what that is but I think there is a Greek club.
Clubs and Activities At CCAC, there are a few sports but lots of activities to get involved with.
Great for these types of students Great for students who actually have to pay for their own schooling and not let mom and dad pay for everything. Price wise the schools cost of classes are a lot lower than the big universities. A majority of the professors are wonderful and are willing to stay after class so the students are learning and understanding everything they need to know from the course. Also great for students who are always busy with outside activities such as work or raising a child. The classes are a reasonable size maximum of 30 students per class. Therefore students do not have to worry about large classes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are a few areas to take naps in between classes and there are awesome nature trails to view old history before the school was built.
Bang for the buck The price of schooling can not be beat! It is very reasonable.
What to do for fun There are many sports, clubs and activities to become involved in, you just have to find the right one.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is very reasonably priced and has a very wide range of options. There are also vending machines located in the cafeteria and on every floor level.
Dorm Life I don't believe there are dorms at CCAC south but there are apartments near by off campus.
Academic Rigor Some classes are tough to get through but that just means you need to study more and ask questions on the material that is difficult.
Tips for prospective students If you plan to attend be aware that you may have to take courses that you do not need, but sometimes they worth taking :)
In three sentences A reasonable school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are guards, but they spend most of the time gossiping, reading the newspaper, checking out the girls, or listening to their ipod. They are probably just bored because there's not much going on. I have never felt in danger here.
Clubs and Activities Nothing of interest to me, but they are there.
Great for these types of students Those who want to save money.
Bang for the buck Overall not bad, but nothing to rave about.
What to do for fun There are some events/activities available, but I've never been interested in what they offer. Most of these are academic based as far as I know.
Food and Dining I wouldn't know. I have never eaten anything here, but I hear the cafeteria food is not good.
Dorm Life There are no dorms available here.
Academic Rigor It varies by professor and class, but over all the classes have been easy for me. I have found many of the professors to be interesting, for one reason or another, but they are often lazy and do not put much effort into their classes. This might simply be because they are given too many classes to teach, however.
Tips for prospective students If you plan on transferring, make sure the classes you are taking here will transfer to your intended college. This means try to figure out where you will transfer as soon as possible. Parking is horrible between 10am and 2pm at most, if not all, of the campuses. Get there early or be prepared to always be late for class.
In three sentences Community College is a great way for college students to save money. However, many of the professors do not seem to put much effort into their classes. There are some great professors here that do seem to care, though, and overall I have had a good experience.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There's a good amount of clubs on campus, and if there isn't something you want, you can make it.
Great for these types of students I'm an overachiever who craves academic autonomy, and I've received everything I've wanted/needed, so I'd say it's great for a student who loves to control their own schedule and plan!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They say that the old art building is haunted. Is it? I don't know. Probably not.
Bang for the buck CCAC is incredibly inexpensive. Most universities will accept up to 60 credits from CCAC, so you end up saving about 70% off the cost of a degree by going to CCAC before you transfer.
What to do for fun Maybe I'm a dork, but my idea of fun is adding on an extra course or two in something I love, like ceramics or creative writing!
Food and Dining The breakfast at CCAC is cheap and delicious. However, I keep finding hair and stuff in the dinner food. I never eat dinner there now... Someone on the night staff is gross and isn't wearing a hair net or something.
Dorm Life There is no dorm on campus.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes are difficult and some are easy. However, you learn something from every course, and I feel that most of my courses have prepared me to one day be a professor.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to test things! There are so many features that most students don't know about, like course substitutions, dual enrollment, cross enrollment, credits by exam, etc. Plan your schedule yourself; don't just accept whatever schedule you're given, and above all else, have fun!
In three sentences Before I attended CCAC, I had a negative view of community colleges because I thought that they weren't as good as other universities. However, I have utterly fallen in love with the school, from the amazingly supportive administrative staff to my knowledgeable and often inspirational professors. CCAC has given me the guidance I needed to make decisions about my future, and because of it, I have decided to become a professor so that I can work in a school like it in the future!

Tips for prospective students I just wanted to leave a review on here and tell students to RESEARCH YOUR TEACHERS BEFORE YOU CHOOSE THEM. I made the mistake of not doing this and recently took a class that had Dr. Barbara Radigan as the prof. It was an online Psychology class. Wow, was choosing her as a teacher a huge mistake. She was not involved with the class at all. She DOES NOT follow her own syllabus, even though she explicitly states in it that she wants her students to all but memorize it word for word. Her grading scale goes completely on her feelings, and not actual grades on tests or home work. And she is a very cold and callus person to deal with when you point out her short comings. She DOES NOT like students pointing out mistakes in her work. Yes, I am upset with her. I had an A in her class and after pointing out a mistake in her syllabus, I suddenly had a C for a final grade (and she would not give me any proof as to why.. I am still fighting this). I worked very hard in her class. Never missed an assignment and my lowest exam score was an 88%, or B+. Just please be careful when considering your instructors and beware of her. After my whole ordeal, I read some awful reviews of her online. I feel it is now my fault for not looking in to who's hands I was putting my academic career in. Just PLEASE stay informed and involved in your choices for instructors.

Great for these types of students Students looking to start their education and get some core credits out of the way before transfering to a state or private school.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has not been open on any of the days I've attended classes so far. Vending machines are well stocked.
Dorm Life We don't have dorms.
Academic Rigor So far it doesn't seem as though it's quite as demanding as other schools. I take fast track classes and they seem much less challenging than the courses I took at a state school last year.
In three sentences It's convenient that it is much cheaper than a state or private school. With the cheap tuition comes buildings that doesn't seem nearly as well equiped as other schools are. Categories Comments Great for these types of students CCAC is great for adult learners with work or family obligations and those who intend to transfer to a four year institution eventually.
Bang for the buck There is no reason to pay full university price for courses that are required for every major. If you are trying to figure out your path, this is a good place to experiment with academics before committing to student loans.
Food and Dining Pretty average cafeteria fare, though the individual pan pizzas are always available, and pizza is always good.
Academic Rigor Class difficulty tends to be a mixed bag. Many of the general studies requirements, especially math and English, are not extremely challenging. However, I have had very good experiences with elective classes.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to take a variety of classes! CCAC is a good place to try out new things without worrying about breaking the bank. Also, try to register for art classes especially early. They fill up very quickly.
In three sentences CCAC is a great place for recent high school graduates or returning adult learners to start out a college career. International students entering the U.S. through government programs can find easy accessible housing close to the campus.
Academic Rigor Classes can be challenging but if students apply themselves and show up to lectures everyday it can be done.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I feel the cafeteria is priced very well for a college student that is limited with money.
What to do for fun I do not participate in non-credit course activity at CCAC. I am looking to transfer to a D1 university for football I work out daily off-site. I read a number of books for pleasure. I enjoy family activities.
Food and Dining The food at CCAC is good, a good variety and healthy food choices are available. The cafeteria is clean and comfortable. The food pricing is affordable and you get your money's worth.
Dorm Life I commute and do not live far from my campus location, I don't even know that housing is offered.
Academic Rigor Academically CCAC is far more than I expected from a positive perspective, the professor/instructors take pride in the delivery of syllabus materials. I have learned a great deal thus far and I am in mid-point in my first college semester. The professors show interest and take time out to ensure you understand the course material.
Tips for prospective students If you are unsure about where you want to end up academically, work with a counselor prior to your first semester. Explore the certificate programs that CCAC has to offer in addition to the associate degree programs. If you have intentions to transfer understand that you save significantly if you graduate from CCAC and then move on.
In three sentences I am currently in my first semester college experience and the following is how I feel about my CCAC journey. CCAC has good entry counselors who make transition from high school to junior college easy. My class sizes are comfortable in terms of learning without feeling as though you get lost in a crowd of numbers. Affordability was an issue for myself and family, CCAC offered affordability.

Categories Comments Campus Safety pretty good. not a lot of threat to begin with
Greek Life none
Clubs and Activities Great variety, from anime, gaming, sports, music, LGBT, adventure club.
Great for these types of students There's a lot of great involvement in the nerd community between the numerous different clubs, and the amount of magic and dungeons and dragons and anime is always being played in the student lounge. Its also good for people who have a busy schedule, and people who like to be alone because you never have to stay on campus
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Nothing too unusual.
Bang for the buck $2,000 total after books, it's a little hard to beat that.
What to do for fun There's not a whole lot to do when classes aren't in session since no one lives on campus no one stays on campus. During class time there's clubs and activities to join, and there's the student lounge. Most people hang out on the north shore or go downtown.
Food and Dining The cafeteria isn't bad. There's a lot of choices, and there's always pizza to fall back on to. They've also been pushing to make for a bit more of a healthy diet option as well.
Dorm Life None applicable. There are no dorms at ccac.
Academic Rigor It can be challenging based on individual knowledge level, and how high of a level class you are taking. So far none of my classes have seemed to be that big of a challenge though.
Tips for prospective students Definitely use the rate my professor website as often as possible when scheduling. Don't take teachers if they are about to retire. If you're awful at doing things on your own time never take the online classes.
In three sentences For a community college I am impressed. There's a lot to do on campus with clubs and student trips at reasonable prices. That being said, some teachers aren't very serious and do not care, and that really does suck when you are paying all of what you make to go to school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There were a few threats in security as well as precautions in safety when colleges around had problems but other than those, it's pretty safe.
Greek Life Not a part of the greek life so I don't know if there is one and if it's satisfactory or not
Clubs and Activities I can't really give it a star rating because I'm not a part of any clubs though I'd like to, clubs would take too much of time that I need to be other places.
Great for these types of students Working people People with kids Don't know what they want to do Want a more personal experience
Bang for the buck The tuition is really cheap...well cheap compared to a 4 yr school but other than that....
What to do for fun There really isn't anything to do around here except maybe the Science Center....but if you venture into the Downtown area, then you can find clothing stores or a library to relax and sit a spell.
Food and Dining There are a few fast food joints around, like Wendy's, McDonalds, Taco Bell, but when that gets tiring, there are some mom-pop resturants around if you've got the time and money to go there.
Dorm Life There are no dorms except for the handicapble students
Academic Rigor Classes are okay, but it seems more like an academically strict high school than a college.
Tips for prospective students Make sure it's what you want before applying because the low amount of tuition is tempting but if you want to challenge yourself, it's not the best.
In three sentences Good for working students and those with kids. Teachers are a little more lenient then those in a 4 yr school. Not much on campus experience (e.g dorms)

Categories Comments Campus Safety For the most part each campus, Allegheny, South and Boyce has always felt safe and had good security on campus
Greek Life The fraternity is hard to get into they may invite you then decide they dont want you read everything
Clubs and Activities There are some good clubs because there run by good students an not by the unorganized school.
Great for these types of students It can be a good starter school be patient you will have issues
Bang for the buck Once you work out all the issues if you can get in the classes you want an need it does have good value most teachers, teach the same class at other more expensive schools.
What to do for fun Nothing there to do for fun no matter what campus. If you enjoy going to the gym there always over crowded an have the worst hours ever and each gym has its own rules
Food and Dining Depending on campus depends on the food most campuses stop serving food by 2pm so if you have an afternoon class an your hungry you maybe forced to visit the over priced vending machines that only work half the time. The price of the food is high and for what you get your better off buying food and bringing it with you from home or somewhere else
Dorm Life Has no dorms
Academic Rigor Many teachers are from other top schools that are more expensive so you get the same academic education for less
Tips for prospective students Be on top of everything. Don't rely on the school for anything keep records of everything an beware people are always willing to give excuses instead of resolutions
In three sentences Nice campuses. Very unorganized staff an administration , there is always issues an one office never communicates with the other so there is always issues with admissions an financial aid office as well as accounting. Very poor advisor system, you never see the same person twice an you always get a different answer for the same question which is frustrating.

Food and Dining I rarely ever ate inside the cafeteria, but when I did they had a good selection to choose from. I always ate at the many restaurants within walking distance.
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, you will find some courses to be really hard. Let me be honest though, this isn't high school anymore.
Tips for prospective students Before applying for college, fill out a FAFSA application to see if you can receive any financial aide. You should meet with an adviser when picking you classes, so he/she can help put you on the right track. Get to school early and walk around to find out where your classrooms are. Always come prepared with a pencil/pen and notebook on the first day.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt threatened here. I do not know what else to say.
Greek Life There are no fraternities or sororities as far as I am aware. This is a commuter college, after all.
Clubs and Activities My campus has a Disney club, a Horticulture club, a Criminal Justice club, a History club, a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and more. I have literally lost count.
Great for these types of students Outgoing students, those willing to speak up/ask questions, those willing to do the work, and those pressed for time and/or money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a fitness trail, a gymnasium, a gym, and a small patch of woods, complete with lake. There are quiet study areas in many unexpected places. I love their library.
Bang for the buck Cheap, equivalent, and just as academically challenging as more traditional and expensive four-year colleges. I am not regretting coming here one bit.
What to do for fun The library is an awesome place. They have televisions and DVD players and actual popular movies (with headphones, of course) and a lot of fiction books, not to mention nonfiction that goes way beyond dry academic research tomes (although there's a lot of those, too, if that's your thing). There are nooks and crannies all over that one can study, read, nap, or chat with others in. There are more clubs than I can count, and usually something's going on with student life. Plus your student ID scores you discounts on many activities around town.
Food and Dining I haven't eaten at the cafeteria too much, but it's usually packed. Everyone keeps telling me the cheese fries are to die for.
Dorm Life CCAC is a community college and does not have any dorms.
Academic Rigor I've never been to another college, but CCAC is moderately tough. If approached with discipline and self-control, one's life will not be taken over, and one is more likely to learn, and learn well. There are also more free tutoring opportunities than I can shake a stick at.
Tips for prospective students Study. Study with your peers! Feel free to ask your teachers anything: they're often willing to be your friend, too. Some of them make their classes genuinely funny - even math!
In three sentences I was originally kind of nervous about going to a community college, but CCAC was a perfect transition from high school. The classes are challenging, the teachers are always willing to help, and it's cheap. There are also a zillion ways to make friends and get involved in student life.

Clubs and Activities I was involved in the Criminal Justice Club as well as the Conduct Hearing Board. Activities vary but include fundraisers and fieldtrips.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are not any unusual traditions or locations on this campus however we do recognize the holiday seasons with different activities and fundraisers.
Bang for the buck CCAC does not discriminate against age. There are students from 18-50 attending courses. The class sizes do not exceed 25 students therefore learning seems more at a personable level.
What to do for fun Attending school functions such as concerts or sporting events are available.
Food and Dining The cafeteria has reasonable prices for college students and healthy choices are provided.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on this campus. I live in my own home.
Academic Rigor I have made the Dean's list three times while attending CCAC. My GPA in High School wasn't the best but my college GPA has proven that I have worked very hard and stayed motivated.
Tips for prospective students Stay motivated. Use the tools that the college offers such as free tutoring. Ask for help and questions to the advisors so they can direct you in the right direction in your current major.
In three sentences I would rate this college a ten. It has provided me with many resources in the Criminal Justice field. I will utilize what I have learned after graduation this summer and tranferring to another college to achieve my B.S.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus has a couple of security guards but no actual cops. Most of security are a lot older as well.
Great for these types of students Good gateway for students wishing to pursue core classes and transfer in the future.
Bang for the buck You earn a good education for little money, and you save thousands of dollars by attending CCAC instead of a large university.
What to do for fun There are clubs that you could join, but a lot of the current students are transferring so not many people are joining these clubs so there really is not much to do.
Food and Dining The cafeteria offers a variety of different foods from eggs, pancakes, and pancakes in the mornings to chicken tenders and french fries in the afternoons. The cafeteria staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food is good as well.
Dorm Life CCAC doesn't have dorms. All students commute to the campus.
Academic Rigor You have good teachers, and not so good ones but you are getting a very good education especially if you're interested in pursuing an allied health field.
Tips for prospective students There aren't too many students on campus, and it gets boring at times. The education you receive for the amount of money you pay is worth it and it saves you a ton! The biggest downfall is the difficulty of getting into your desired major, because you're not guaranteed a spot.
In three sentences I would rate CCAC a 6/10 due to the difficulty of getting into your desired major, the lack of student life/activities, and some instructors at the facility. You have meet all the pre-requisites required by your program, but you are not guaranteed to be accepted. Classes here are challenging and you are well taught, but some professors do not teach and you have to go to your books to get the material.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who need a stepping stone to get where they want to go.
Bang for the buck Totally affordable, and great for potential transfer students.
What to do for fun The North Side, where the campus is located, has a bunch of great galleries and museums.
Food and Dining Some vegan options in the cafeteria. Overall its adequate, nothing fancy.
Dorm Life I don't know. I have never lived on campus.
Academic Rigor I put 4 stars, but academic rigor is completely dependent on the person and there level of effort.
Tips for prospective students Keep yourself from getting lazy. Its not that hard to get up at go to class. And make sure to pay close attention in the last class of the day, thats the one that gets the most frustrating.
In three sentences The north campus is not glorious or flashy, but if you look at the students you can see the potential. It feels like your capable when your there. Everyone is on the same page, everyone is trying.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They have security on campus at all times.
Greek Life Nonexistent in a community college.
Clubs and Activities They have many available with fliers throughout the school.
Great for these types of students Undecided and need some cheap credits along with time to figure things out.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There really aren't much. You go in, take care of business, and you are out.
Bang for the buck It isn't too difficult to get the entire tuition paid by financial aid and scholarships so you get what you pay for.
What to do for fun When I am not doing anything school related, I am either working or doing things outdoors such as fishing or going for runs in the park.
Food and Dining We only have a small cafeteria with average food.
Dorm Life There are not dorms.
Academic Rigor I'm taking currently enrolled in the academic classes I just need out of the way such as Business 101 and Psychology and a basic math so the classes I am taking aren't too rigorous.
Tips for prospective students Is a lot like what you would imagine 13th grade to be like. Nothing to worry about.
In three sentences Excellent for a community college.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Open minded, relaxed.
Bang for the buck Decent prices, however they have a strange credit policy. If you only sign up for 12 credit you get charged for 15 and so on and so forth.
What to do for fun Pond, Walking trail, Gym, Clubs and live music in the cafeteria.
Food and Dining Chicken strips and BBQ <3
Dorm Life No dorms
Tips for prospective students Attendance is important in community college, despite what you may hear.
In three sentences The class sizes are perfect, and the teachers are very hands on and personal. It is a wonderful environment with a diverse group of people. Another plus to attending CCAC is the numerous job fairs and opportunities they provide you with.

Categories Comments Food and Dining the cafeteria has machines, the food is priced a little outrageously
Dorm Life no dorms
Academic Rigor The teachers are burnt out
Tips for prospective students Do not depend on an advisor or anyone else to care about if you are on track for a program. Everything at the school is black and white.
In three sentences The school does not care about you at all! I have a 4.0 and I was denied to enter a program over a high school grade from 12 years ago.
