    Community colleges are much more less expensive than going to a public school. if you don't know what you want to major in, I would advise you to apply for a community college, to start taking general classes first, so you get a feel of what you might want to do. After that you can transfer to the college of your preferred choice
    Am enjoying being here

    even though its not the dorm life, since most students who go to community college commute, they get a better education and if you don't enjoy being there, you can always transfer.
    Am learning a lot

    the learning environment for ccac is outstanding. The class ratio to the teacher is compared to the class ratio of teacher to students in learning in high school.

    Spend your first 1-2 years at CCAC, you won't regret it. Your wallets and future will thank you. Do some research into the classes you would be taking at other institutions, do well in them and the credits will almost always transfer. You will save thousands of dollars at least in just one year.
    Bang for the buck

    I had a part-time job while I was at CCAC and one paycheck payed for one class. There is absolutely no financial stress and the education is just as good as a 4-year institution. I can even say it was better because the stress level was so low that I could concentrate on academics better and my grades sky-rocketed.
    Did enjoy being here

    I attended the North Campus of CCAC for my classes and I loved it. The building is clean and open, the atmosphere was great for studying. They had a 2-story library with study carols in the second floor and computers on the first. There was a separate computer lab with free printing. The rooms are easy to find. Students also get discounts off of tickets for activities all around Pittsburgh including (but not limited to) Pirates Games, Phipps Conservatory, and the Zoo. I would usually stay on campus hours after my classes had ended either studying or just relaxing. Also, registering for classes was completely hassle-free. I loved CCAC overall.
    Did learn a lot

    I attended CCAC after a year at an expensive private 4-year college. If it was an option I would still be at CCAC. The Community College stereotype is one that needs to be re-written. The classes at CCAC were the exact same quality as anywhere else. The classes had challenge, the teachers cared, and I left feeling enriched. I took classes over the entire spectrum and I was happy with every one. I ended with all of my expectations fulfilled. I would suggest Community College to anyone and everyone.

    A great college to get on the fast track to the career you are seeking for. It's cheaper and quicker and just the best way to go !
    Bang for the buck

    This is the reason that I attend a community college. Instead of paying 30,000 a year in a university and attending the same classes I am now I pay 80% less. Definitely a bang for the buck !
    Am enjoying being here

    Not only does schooling give me something to do instead of sleeping in till 2 in the afternoon everyday but it's helping me to achieve my goal. Very enjoyable !
    Am learning a lot

    The teachers here are all different yet all the same in the fact that they all want you to acquire knowledge and to succeed in life. I am definitely learning a lot and will continue too.

    there are friendly security guards spread throughout the school, and the groundsworkers keep the campus clean.

    a great value for the price. although many of the classes are taught by the same professors as other big name schools in the area, ccac is only a fraction of the cost.

    ccac features several social clubs, including sports, music, and religious groups. the students lounge has several different rooms to hang out in, as well as an open access pool table.
    Food and Dining

    ccac's allegheny campus features a small cafe with fresh meals each day, as well as vending machines and several restaurants within walking distance.
    Dorm Life

    ccac does not have dorms, although there are several study areas as well as social halls and activites.
    Academic Rigor

    although the classes are challenging, the teachers make themselves available for assistance, and tutoring sessions are simple to arrange.

    if you plan on transferring to a 4-year school, be sure to identify your program early, and schedule your classes to fit your needs.

    community college of allegheny county is a wonderful low cost alternative to larger colleges and universities. it's campuses and centers are spread out through allegheny county, so everyone is near a campus. ccac works with many area schools to ensure transferability of credits.

    Not much Greek life. I think those types of organizations are more predominant at university.

    There are few clubs which students can join. At the beginning of each semester there is a club showcase/recruitment day. Students can explore the different clubs options on campus.
    Great for these types of students

    Great school for students not sure of what direction they want to go academically; great for adult learners; and really good for students on a restricted budget.

    During the Spring live bands play in the center courtyard. Other than that, not much. It is a small school.
    Bang for the buck

    Overall, this school is a good deal for your money. Especially compared to the pricey four year institutions in the city. I think all students planning to attend Pitt should really consider going to CCAC first and transferring, especially if they are a resident of Allegheny county. It is a really good deal economically.
    What to do for fun

    Pittsburgh is a good town; baseball, football, casino, and lots of bars. The school is walkable from the football and baseball stadium. I live in an area called Shadyside and drive to school. The parking at school is free for students.
    Food and Dining

    Food is not the greatest. I try not to eat on campus because its not the healthiest but there is a salad bar. There is also a subway two blocks away, and on the street behind campus are a few bars and restaurants.
    Academic Rigor

    As someone who has taken classes at a four year institution, the difficulty is about the same as my previous school. However, the classes are small so there is more of a personal relationship with the professors. If concerned about academic rigor, make your advisor aware and they will assist you in organizing the specific courses you should take together to help lighten you load.
    Tips for prospective students

    Be patient during your initial class registration. It can be frustrating, but after you go through the process once, it becomes much easier the second time. After completing one semester, you will have the option for priority registration which speeds up the process. Also, confirm that credits you plan to transfer will be accepted by a four year institution before you register. Finally, if you are new to the college experience, be prepared for college level courses; the sciences can be difficult.

    This college is a great deal for your money. I chose it because its reputation with the local universities is very good. The school has been around for over 40 years and is regionally credited.

    I was not qualified for financial aid, but the prices are low enough that I wasn't feeling financially stressed while being a full time student and working part time.
    Did enjoy being here

    Although it takes a little longer to get to know people, everyone I have meet have been very friendly. The teachers are also helpful and provide great advice and academic references when asked.

    i am 62 and still working on an associates. without ccac i would not have the 100+ credits that i do have, and they are not just blow off courses; some are psych and other such deep academics. even though i can't seem to get my maths i feel they must like me or they would have graduated me long ago.
    What to do for fun

    i do not partake of this either but i definitely know there is almost anything you want to do for fun. there was recently a trip abroad with ccac students; and there is many sport programs available. there is also cultural events. on the spur of the minute i can only say if you think it, want to do it and its legal; ccac will accommodate you somehow.
    Food and Dining

    being as i commute the same would be said about this; but i am aware of the many programs offered at this school and feel that they would only offer not maybe the best but definitely nutritious; as we have an excellent nutrition program.

    i commute so i am not knowledgeable about the dorm life.
    Academic Rigor

    after looking up the term rigor i probably would not want to make this a five but the logical exactness of their academics is only as good as the student--if the student does not question then it remains the norm.
    Tips for prospective students

    when the faculty is having a bad day try to cheer them up by being understanding instead of acting like the school doesn't care. they will quickly remember why they are there. always try to be as honest with them as possible; they can't help you solve a problem if they only know half the problem and since they are an educational tool; they welcome a chance to better our environment and education. they are not above using a student to advance education. but they will never abuse that student. nor their situation.

    i would definitely give them the highest rating possible for various reasons. in their own way they exceed even the ivy league schools. 10 out of 10; 100 out of a 100; whatever the variable they are tops.

    the tuition for out of county students took a giant leap, so unless you are looking at the 2 year courses, a states school might be a better option.

    on campus security officers are posted at the entrance of the parking lot and in every building on campus. not only do they make me feel safe- they are great for asking questions and directions!

    ccac is an extremely affordable school with lots of academic and government aids for those who need it. the book store also offers most books used; i saved 50% my first semester!

    allegheny campus is located on the north shore of pittsburgh, minutes away from downtown! pittsburgh offers lots of shopping, sight seeing, parks, theaters, and night life. south side works is my favorite place to go for a walk and just meet new people!

    the cafeteria at main campus is a great place to stop in a hurry, but the selection is somewhat limited.

    i'm a commuter student, and only wish i could live closer to main campus for student activities and fellowship.

    the level of difficulty in most courses offered here can be measured by the students determination to do well. every college course should be a challenge if a student applies themselves!

    i would explore all the ccac campus' before choosing where to take classes. the advisors at ccac are great to meet with to answer any questions or even to help decide on classes or a major.

    what would campus life be without activities?! whether you rather participate or just sit on the sidelines. the community college of allegheny county provides you with major activities, from greek step shows, to stage plays. if you enjoy dancing, acting, or musical instruments, they have a place for everyone.

    the chefs cook fresh food everyday. if the meal of the day does not catch your interest, they have a daily menu that you can choose from. if that still does not interest you they can make you what you want by simple request.

    I feel very safe at our location at Washington Crowne Center. Located in a nice area and a well lit parking lot with security to walk me to my car if I request, makes me feel protected.

    CCAC is great for: older adults wanting to get back into school, 18-19 year olds who aren't quite ready for dorm living or being away from home, any student who is financially strapped for cash, those who just want to knock out the basic courses before continuing on at a University.
    Bang for the buck

    CCAC per credit hour price is around 90.00 for Alleghaney Co residents and 195.00 for Washington Co residents is a bargain compared to Waynesburg University at around 500.00 per credit hour. That's why CCAC is my choice for earning my Child Development degree.
    What to do for fun

    I really don't have any suggestions on what to do for fun since my courses and my job consume most of my time. Therefore, any extra curricular activities the school might offer are not on my radar. One nice thing with the school being at the mall is there might be time for some recreational shopping therapy!
    Food and Dining

    The location where I attend is located at the Washington Crown Center Mall. There are several places to eat at the mall such as China Express, Subway and a pizza shop. The other option for a sit down restaurant is Garfields which is nice and the food is really good.
    Dorm Life

    There is no dorm life offered at CCAC here in Washington County.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes offered at this college are interesting and thought provoking. Classes at CCAC will challenge and inspire students. The workload is average but not overwhelming.
    Tips for prospective students

    Make sure you plan out all of the classes you will need to finish your degree in a timely manner. Meet with an advisor to help you chart your course. Apply for any and all grants and scholarships, every little bit helps.

    Every once in a while you will hear about a robbery or a break-in on campus, but this isn't very often. Security guards patrol several of the campus buildings, and if you feel uneasy, there are phone numbers posted inside most of the academic buildings that you can call for a security escort.
    Clubs and Activities

    There is a variety of clubs and activities on each campus. Many of them do not have strict attendance requirements since many of CCAC's students also work and have children, so join a club to have some fun, even if you can't go very often.

    It is very good for older students returning to school and for traditional students who want to save money on their first few years of college.
    Bang for the buck

    The price of CCAC is very good for the education you get, especially if you live in-county. In-county residents pay less than $100 per credit, and CCAC offers a good education.
    What to do for fun

    I like to read novels, bicycle, and grow houseplants.
    Food and Dining

    The food at the cafeterias is alright and the opening hours are decent.
    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms at CCAC. It is a commuter-only school.
    Academic Rigor

    The classes are challenging but not terribly so. Homework is a big thing. Do all your homework and develop a relationship with a tutor, and it is not so bad.
    Tips for prospective students

    Find out where the tutoring services are and get to know your tutors before you are lagging behind in class. Go to class, stay on top of your homework, go to tutoring when you are having trouble, and you should be fine.

    CCAC is a good school that has reasonable tuition rates and good professors. Its libraries are nice and have a lot of resources, and their Internet service is speedy. Overall, if you are trying to get a good education while saving money, CCAC is a good choice.

    the cafeteria food sucks. it's the usual hum-drum fries, chicken fingers, cheese sticks, onion rings. its boring and gross so you may want to brown bag your food from home.

    I didn't live in a dorm but I know people that do and they say that it sucks. The people are not friendly and the dorms aren't clean and the rules are very strict.
    Academic Rigor

    Depending on what classes you have you may have a lot or a little homework. I had a semester where I had almost no homework so it was really easy. But I also had semesters where I was overloaded with homework.

    At CCAC you definitely get what you pay for. They did raise the tuition this year but you still can not beat the price.

    CCAC has many sport teams and clubs to participate in. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to participate in any clubs or sports because I work full time and go to school full time.

    CCAC has the BEST coffee. They also offer breakfast sandwiches made to order. They offer fresh pancakes and french toast. For lunch, pizza, chicken fingers, french fries, and so much more.

    There is no Dorm Life at CCAC. Students live off campus.
    Academic Rigor

    Community College sets students up for the classes right for them by having each student take a placement test. These placement tests put the student in the classes right for the student. If the student scored low they will put them in a lower class until they can prepare the student for the college level courses. The teachers in these classes specifically, do everything they can to help each student exceed. I feel that is very important and I really appreciate the effort from the teachers.

    I would suggests prospective students to look over every option before applying to this or any school. I would personally prefer this school because it is cheap and close to home for me. I will say that sometimes the financial aid office and registration office are not as helpful as I would like them to be. They do not really take the time to help you and always seem to be in a rush.

    Community College of Allegheny County is a good school to consider if you are going to be transferring to a four year institution. I would suggest this school to other students because of the low price and if you are in a hurry to earn a degree.

    This school is great for the types of students who don't follow concepts as easily as other people, or who need more time to fully understand things gone over in courses because I felt as if each of my courses proceeded at a slower rate that should have been.

    You definitely get what you pay for; which isn't much considering the low-cost of tuition for this school. Don't expect a grade A education when you aren't dishing out the dough.
    What to do for fun

    Since on-campus residency isn't offered, there isn't really much at all on campus to do for fun.

    It isn't a requirement to buy a meal plan for this school as it is with other schools (I believe mainly due to the fact that on-campus living isn't offered), but once again I wouldn't be in the place to make remarks on food and dining because I never ventured to the cafeteria.

    I don't believe CCAC offers student residence, but even if it did I wouldn't be in the place to make a remark about it because I lived off-campus.
    Academic Rigor

    I guess it all depends on what kind of student you are, as stated above, but this school has eerily similar degrees of difficulty as my high school courses did. I wasn't challenged at all, and a lot of times could receive high grades on exams with little to no effort as far as studying. To put it in the most plain terms, this school is a joke compared to other 4-year B.A. universities that I've attended or have heard about.
    Tips for prospective students

    As usual, make sure to attend all of your classes. Become familiar with your professors so that if some difficulty in your coursework arises, you won't have a hard time going to them to ask for help. If you're assigned homework or reading that is NOT required, do it anyway; it will only help you out in the end, take an extra hour out of your day to understand the material your professor has or will go over to the utmost degree.

    This school is nearly as difficult as high school was for me; which is not at all. I guess it depends on what kind of student you are, but if you yourself know that you can succeed at a more challenging school, CCAC isn't for you because you won't be challenged. I enjoyed my time at this school, but it was just too easy for me and I didn't feel like I would be taking the information that I've learned there with me in the future to help me with anything.

    Usually depends on the teacher, day classes are better and you tend to learn more, in least in my experience.

    Take the placement tests even if your SAT scores are high enough to take 100 level courses. You could score higher and skip over the 100 level course. Don't rely on advisers to help pick your classes, you should find out what teacher to take and make sure classes will transfer to future college.

    The campus is very safe! They have at least two security guards on duty while classes are in session. They make their rounds and are willing to help anyone in need, espcially if you're lost and looking for a class or If you accidentally lock your keys in your car!!

    Great for students who actually have to pay for their own schooling and not let mom and dad pay for everything. Price wise the schools cost of classes are a lot lower than the big universities. A majority of the professors are wonderful and are willing to stay after class so the students are learning and understanding everything they need to know from the course. Also great for students who are always busy with outside activities such as work or raising a child. The classes are a reasonable size maximum of 30 students per class. Therefore students do not have to worry about large classes.

    There are a few areas to take naps in between classes and there are awesome nature trails to view old history before the school was built.

    The price of schooling can not be beat! It is very reasonable.

    If you plan on transferring, make sure the classes you are taking here will transfer to your intended college. This means try to figure out where you will transfer as soon as possible. Parking is horrible between 10am and 2pm at most, if not all, of the campuses. Get there early or be prepared to always be late for class.

    The breakfast at CCAC is cheap and delicious. However, I keep finding hair and stuff in the dinner food. I never eat dinner there now... Someone on the night staff is gross and isn't wearing a hair net or something.

    Some of the classes are difficult and some are easy. However, you learn something from every course, and I feel that most of my courses have prepared me to one day be a professor.

    Don't be afraid to test things! There are so many features that most students don't know about, like course substitutions, dual enrollment, cross enrollment, credits by exam, etc. Plan your schedule yourself; don't just accept whatever schedule you're given, and above all else, have fun!

    Before I attended CCAC, I had a negative view of community colleges because I thought that they weren't as good as other universities. However, I have utterly fallen in love with the school, from the amazingly supportive administrative staff to my knowledgeable and often inspirational professors.     I just wanted to leave a review on here and tell students to RESEARCH YOUR TEACHERS BEFORE YOU CHOOSE THEM. I made the mistake of not doing this and recently took a class that had Dr. Barbara Radigan as the prof. It was an online Psychology class. Wow, was choosing her as a teacher a huge mistake. She was not involved with the class at all. She DOES NOT follow her own syllabus, even though she explicitly states in it that she wants her students to all but memorize it word for word. Her grading scale goes completely on her feelings, and not actual grades on tests or home work. And she is a very cold and callus person to deal with when you point out her short comings. She DOES NOT like students pointing out mistakes in her work. Yes, I am upset with her. I had an A in her class and after pointing out a mistake in her syllabus, I suddenly had a C for a final grade (and she would not give me any proof as to why.. I am still fighting this). I worked very hard in her class. Never missed an assignment and my lowest exam score was an 88%, or B+. Just please be careful when considering your instructors and beware of her. After my whole ordeal, I read some awful reviews of her online. I feel it is now my fault for not looking in to who's hands I was putting my academic career in. Just PLEASE stay informed and involved in your choices for instructors.

    If you are unsure about where you want to end up academically, work with a counselor prior to your first semester. Explore the certificate programs that CCAC has to offer in addition to the associate degree programs. If you have intentions to transfer understand that you save significantly if you graduate from CCAC and then move on.

CCAC has good entry counselors who make transition from high school to junior college easy.     Before applying for college, fill out a FAFSA application to see if you can receive any financial aide. You should meet with an adviser when picking you classes, so he/she can help put you on the right track. Get to school early and walk around to find out where your classrooms are. Always come prepared with a pencil/pen and notebook on the first day.

    It's a nice small campus where you don't have to walk very far for classes. It's very handicap accessible with ramps and elevators. They have quite a few student parking lots for those that commute.

    There are no fraternities or sororities as far as I am aware. This is a commuter college, after all.

    My campus has a Disney club, a Horticulture club, a Criminal Justice club, a History club, a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and more. I have literally lost count.

    Outgoing students, those willing to speak up/ask questions, those willing to do the work, and those pressed for time and/or money.

    There's a fitness trail, a gymnasium, a gym, and a small patch of woods, complete with lake. There are quiet study areas in many unexpected places. I love their library.
    Bang for the buck

    Cheap, equivalent, and just as academically challenging as more traditional and expensive four-year colleges. I am not regretting coming here one bit.
    What to do for fun

    The library is an awesome place. They have televisions and DVD players and actual popular movies (with headphones, of course) and a lot of fiction books, not to mention nonfiction that goes way beyond dry academic research tomes (although there's a lot of those, too, if that's your thing). There are nooks and crannies all over that one can study, read, nap, or chat with others in. There are more clubs than I can count, and usually something's going on with student life. Plus your student ID scores you discounts on many activities around town.
    Food and Dining

    I haven't eaten at the cafeteria too much, but it's usually packed. Everyone keeps telling me the cheese fries are to die for.
    Dorm Life

    CCAC is a community college and does not have any dorms.
    Academic Rigor

    I've never been to another college, but CCAC is moderately tough. If approached with discipline and self-control, one's life will not be taken over, and one is more likely to learn, and learn well. There are also more free tutoring opportunities than I can shake a stick at.
    Tips for prospective students

    Study. Study with your peers! Feel free to ask your teachers anything: they're often willing to be your friend, too. Some of them make their classes genuinely funny - even math!

    I was originally kind of nervous about going to a community college, but CCAC was a perfect transition from high school. The classes are challenging, the teachers are always willing to help, and it's cheap. There are also a zillion ways to make friends and get involved in student life.

    There are not any unusual traditions or locations on this campus however we do recognize the holiday seasons with different activities and fundraisers.

    CCAC does not discriminate against age. There are students from 18-50 attending courses. The class sizes do not exceed 25 students therefore learning seems more at a personable level.

    Attending school functions such as concerts or sporting events are available.

    The cafeteria has reasonable prices for college students and healthy choices are provided.

    There are no dorms on this campus. I live in my own home.
    Academic Rigor

    I have made the Dean's list three times while attending CCAC. My GPA in High School wasn't the best but my college GPA has proven that I have worked very hard and stayed motivated.

    Stay motivated. Use the tools that the college offers such as free tutoring. Ask for help and questions to the advisors so they can direct you in the right direction in your current major.

    I would rate this college a ten. It has provided me with many resources in the Criminal Justice field. I will utilize what I have learned after graduation this summer and tranferring to another college to achieve my B.S.

    There are clubs that you could join, but a lot of the current students are transferring so not many people are joining these clubs so there really is not much to do.

    The cafeteria offers a variety of different foods from eggs, pancakes, and pancakes in the mornings to chicken tenders and french fries in the afternoons. The cafeteria staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food is good as well.
    Dorm Life

    CCAC doesn't have dorms. All students commute to the campus.
    Academic Rigor

    You have good teachers, and not so good ones but you are getting a very good education especially if you're interested in pursuing an allied health field.

    There aren't too many students on campus, and it gets boring at times. The education you receive for the amount of money you pay is worth it and it saves you a ton! The biggest downfall is the difficulty of getting into your desired major, because you're not guaranteed a spot.

    I would rate CCAC a 6/10 due to the difficulty of getting into your desired major, the lack of student life/activities, and some instructors at the facility. You have meet all the pre-requisites required by your program, but you are not guaranteed to be accepted. Classes here are challenging and you are well taught, but some professors do not teach and you have to go to your books to get the material.
