great for students who want to learn and meet good people, and get a lot of personal attention

    Tips for prospective students

Research the classes required for the major. I know a lot of people who are not happy about the classes they are going to have to take, but it can easily be found on the website.

    Bang for the buck

For a private college, I would say it is very affordable.

    Am enjoying being here

    So far, so good

    Am learning a lot

Great for these types of students

Students from small towns or who enjoy a family oriented living situation will definitely enjoy the tight-knit community that Daemen has built. Offering multiple clubs and groups for those who like to be involved, Daemen makes it hard to walk down the hall and not say Hey! to half the people you pass.

    Tips for prospective students

There are many different types of dorm availabilities now that the school is expanding exponentially in their student population, but despite the appeal of some of the other options, make sure that in your freshman year you get your housing deposit in early. You'll end up in Canavan freshman dorm, which might not be the prettiest, but after hearings stories of feelings of isolation from my friends who lived in other living areas who didn't get the full experience as I did, I look back with pure compassion for that rough brick building. Also, everyone always says Get involved! but here at Daemen, you will rarely come across a person who isn't involved in some sort of club, team, or meeting group. Your first few weeks are prime time to put yourself out there; not only will you meet other people your age trying for the same thing, but you'll meet a bunch of upper-classmen who will be some of the most helpful people you meet in your college career!

    Bang for the buck

Despite the heavy price tag Daemen puts on its tuition statements, the majority of the student body (along with myself), only pays about half of this due to financial aid, a vast amount of scholarships and grants available to be awarded, and through the large work-study program on campus. Considering this, I would consider my time there to have been worth the dollars I paid.

    Am enjoying being here

Compared to other campuses in Buffalo, Daemen's is pretty small. Despite this, the school puts in massive efforts to entertain students and to keep them occupied; from Casino Nights, TGIF (free food), Springfest, and intramural sports, to name a few, there always seems to be something going on. Although only minor on our campus, there is also Greek life with four sororities and one fraternity, all of which comply with strict anti-hazing rules and laws. Student administration positions are available also, including Student Alumni Ambassadors, Student Association, Tour Guides and Student Government, all of which are key roles to be played in the foundation of the school. If you like to get out and do things, Daemen offers a world of opportunities to do so with a little or a lot for everyone.

    Am learning a lot

Although the available majors don't expand over a wide range of topics and subjects, the individual programs that are available offer unique courses that could pique almost anyone's interests. Along with the standard curriculum, students have the option to create independent studies for not only classes, but entire majors (require approval from department head or Dean, respectively). With the opportunity to manipulate your education to get what you want out of it, it's difficult to not learn and keep interest! With a brand new library which features up-to-date technologies around every corner, having a nice place to study is never a problem. With over 25 computers on the first floor and a computer lab only a five minute walk away, papers are easily written and research easily compiled. Both areas for quiet-study and for groups are available, so whatever your ideal studying environment is, you're sure to find a nice, comfortable chair or a large room to fit all of your friends in.

Great for these types of students

I would really say anyone. There are students here who are shyer and are using this college to come out of their shells slowly, but there are also students who are just here to be crazy and have fun. I think the best thing about Daemen is that all these different kinds of students are still accepted and made to feel at home.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in some of the clubs on campus; the art club, anime club, and English club are all great. I'd avoid the Greek organizations, though; it's much more worthwhile to be in a club with people who share your interests.

    Bang for the buck

Daemen is expensive, but the education is really worthwhile. Some of my expenses are covered by the scholarship program, but I definitely recommend carefully considering your finances before making any decision about where to go to school.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is so friendly; I was worried at first about being so far away from home, but the easy acceptance I experienced right off the bat reassured me that Daemen was the right choice.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are really knowledgeable and approachable, for the most part, and the small class sizes make it much easier for professors to answer individual questions.

To me, food will be acceptable no matter whence it came. There are a variety of healthy, nutritious foods and many options for vegetarians.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

Daemen is in the vicinity of Buffalo. If you are not a fan of the cold, then this is not the best place for you.

    In three sentences

The college has a very homely type of community, with the closeness of my small high school. The staff at orientation eagerly welcomed incoming freshmen with group activities designed to introduce eveyone to Daemen. It is not a bad place to be.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots and lots of clubs to join and if they don't have one for you, you can start your own.

Great for these types of students

Nursing, Physician assistants, physical therapy, art, psychology majors, science and buisness

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The DC book is a book full of daemen traditions that you should do before you graduate and if you do 50 of them you receive a medal during graduation ceremony.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get what you paid for at daemen. Smaller classes, smaller friendly campus, great teachers and plenty of opportunities for you to further your education for free by attending seminars.

    What to do for fun

There are shuttles that run in the weekends that take you to the mall and other close by areas. There is plenty of clubs available for students to join, a volleyball court on campus, a work out room and weekly scheduled activities after classes.

    Food and Dining

Food is great, you just have to keep in mind it isn't going to be your parents cooking. They have plenty of options that change daily to accommodate everyones tastes, diets and allergies. so if your a vegetarian they have options for you.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are not the greatest because they are small and do not have ac. However the junior/senior apartments are very spacious and nice and you can get an apartment as a freshman and sophomore if you apply early enough.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are challenging but do not overwhelm you with work. Teachers are very understanding.

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the campus before orientation and classes start that way you get to know your way around campus. Also get to know your teachers and academic advisors, they are there to help support you so don't be shy!

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

There is a security booth just outside the dorms, and I never fell unsafe, even walking around at night. The security guards are really nice, but sometimes the rules about guests having to sign in after 5pm seem kind of strict.

    Greek Life

There is a Greek community here, but they can't have fraternity or sorority houses. The people I have talked to that are involved in Greek all love it and encourage others to join.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs and activities, however they often meet during lunch time, and a lot of students can't make the initial meetings to join the club.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Tradition Keepers book has a long list of different Daemen College traditions that they urge students to take part in.

    Bang for the buck

If you are a B+ or A- student, the scholarships offered are very generous, even though the initial price is high. However, if you are an A+ student, you will only receive that same amount as the B+ student unless you win one of the 2 full ride scholarships (yes, they only have 2.) If you plan on entering one of the more competitive programs like PA or PT do not expect one of the top scholarships. They do not feel the need to give them money because they can easily fill a PA student's spot if he decides not to attend due to the cost. Many students feel slighted in this way, but the education really is comparable to more expensive schools.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of different on campus activities and clubs to join, especially for a small school.

    Food and Dining

The food starts off seeming really good, but it does go downhill. Breakfasts are tasty, though, you can get fresh omelets made to order every day, and the rest of the options vary by day. As for lunch and dinner, the deli is nice, so is the grill and the pasta bar, but the actual entrees really aren't very good. The food has been slowly improving, but still needs work.

    Dorm Life

There are rules in place regarding noise levels and visitors at night which seem pretty strict, but all-in-all, it is a good experience. It is really nice to have a bathroom shared among only 5 girls instead of the whole floor.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes can be difficult, but the teachers are all very willing to help you, especially during office hours. A lot of emphasis is placed on one's ability to write coherently and eloquently.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking to go PA or PT and can take a chemistry class that will transfer over and make it so you don't need to take chem, do it. It is one of the more difficult classes here, and the lab portion requires a lot of work outside of classroom hours.

    In three sentences

A small school in suburban Amherst with a tight-knit community. The campus is very small, and almost everyone knows everyone else. The physician assistant and physical therapy programs are very popular and highly accredited here.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe with security guards walking through the residence halls every hour and walking around campus with two security stations centered in the front and back of the little campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Many good clubs to join in from intermural sports or acting clubs.

    Bang for the buck

For the amount of tuition you do get a lot of perks such as academic coaches and speakers, a lot of new equipment too.

    What to do for fun

Amherst is centrally located and is the best as far as doing fun things, the college offers a lot of promotional speakers, and trips to places as well as housing does things. Being in Amherst your located near great shopping centers, parks, the zoo, the aquarium is only thirty minutes away as well as Canada there are many things to do to keep you having a great time with spending little money!

    Food and Dining

Dining at Wick is horrible the food is disgusting!

    Dorm Life

After you get out of Freshman Dorming at Canavan then it is a great experience in the big spacious apartments but the Canavan is horrible and I hated it my first year. However, I love living in the apartments they are the best!

    Academic Rigor

Academically very good programs for PT and PA, great facilities.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your teachers and do not wait till the last minute, everyone is very helpful if you ask. Lastly use learning coaches from the library you pay for their services in your tuition so you might as well use them!

    Clubs and Activities

    No very abundant.

Great for these types of students

    Academically focused, and determined.

    Bang for the buck

This is a great school especially in the Physical therapy and Physicians assistant majors. Employers look highly upon Daemen graduates, however the social life, dining experience, and sometimes the living experience are little to be desired.

    What to do for fun

Activities are put on by various social groups, however there is no was to determine how many people will show up. TGIF every Friday are fairly popular, and Springfest is always well attended.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't anything special and often runs out quickly. The hours are not practical.

    Dorm Life

Dorming in your 1st year is a great experience and the apartments as an upperclassman are very nice.

    Academic Rigor

Your high school study methods will not do here.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a school with an active social life consider other options.

    In three sentences

Great for these types of students

Students who like smaller, more personalized education and the ability to get to know a lot of people in a small group.

    What to do for fun

There are loads of clubs on campus, as well as a room with pool and pig-pong tables. There is also a YMCA nearby, and the school is in close proximity to Buffalo, which is full of things to do.

    Food and Dining

The food can be a tad repetitive at times, and it is not always the healthiest, but they do try to give you what you ask for. Most of the foods taste good, and they do listen to suggestions given from time-to-time.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are larger than most that I've seen, and every two rooms gets one bathroom rather than an entire floor sharing one. The apartments are also very spacious and comfortable, and the college transportation is very useful.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are very knowledgeable, however there are some teachers who are less helpful and do not do a proper job. There is a good range of classes available, for a small school, some are very easy and some are very difficult. Any student can be challenged or find a class that is easy for them.

    Tips for prospective students

Pay close attention to your program and what classes you'll need to take. It can be tough to stay on track, but if you take the classes required you will be fine.

    In three sentences

A small, friendly campus that is willing to work hard to get you what you need. The living conditions are also very comfortable for residents.

    Campus Safety

The security staff is always around and the walkways are well lit. I also think the size of the campus in itself makes it feel safe.

Great for these types of students

Students who don't want to be just a number.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Everyone is obsessed with the hunt.

    What to do for fun

Hang out with new friends doing whatever. Checking out the cool shops close by as well as explore attractions close by.

    Food and Dining

Lots of healthy choices and junk food opportunities (on occasion).

    Dorm Life

It's hectic and fun initially. After you settle in, you find your groove and meet some pretty amazing people to hang out with.

    Academic Rigor

Challenging but nothing that's completely ridiculous.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus and take advantage of current students who offer you their email in case you have questions.

    In three sentences

It's a small and intimate campus that offers as much or more than a larger university. I like the fact that the faculty actually knows who you are and takes an interest in how you're doing. I feel very comfortable here.
