Great for these types of students

If you are adventuresome, love small towns, love the outdoors, and are willing to put your best efforts into all that you do, then this school is a great fit! Professors work with their students and really get to know them. They are always willing to go the extra mile. The faculty, likewise, is willing to listen to the demands of the students as a whole and on a case by case basis.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private school, it's a little more expensive than public colleges. It's worth it though! Small campus, small student population and a small town are worth it!

    Will enjoy being here

The Campus is pretty small and everything is within walking distance. I particularly love that it's in a small town setting with still lots of things to do when not on campus. Elkins is quiet, lovely and just quaint enough to feel homey. Plus it's an hour away from where I live!

    Will learn a lot

I just love the variety of classes that are available to students. It's a little bit of everything, and I can't wait to explore my options.

    Campus Safety

The campus is under 24 hours surveillance. It is a very safe environment. I have walked to and back from the library at any given time during the night and nothing has ever happened to me. I guess that assures the safety of the school and the city.

    Greek Life

Many Greek life, not so popular though. The dominant one is Sig Ep, a fraternity!

    Clubs and Activities

Not many clubs in town, but there is a bar on campus, the ice house serves the purpose. There are lots of activities ranging from summer activities like in the rivers of the surrounding area to snow activities.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to just find an air to breath from all the hustle and bustle of city with out loosing all the fun. For those who really work for their academic future. It is also a great place for international students.

The experience gained in the school is definitely worth every penny spent.

    What to do for fun

The food in the cafeteria is okay to good depending on your preference of food. Regulars include main entries, Asian stand, Salad bar, deli station, cereals and desert stations. Occasional bars include sushi bar, Mexican stand, hot dog stand, and the once in a while international food fest.

    Dorm Life

Regular doubles and singles, suites if requested. Academic halls for those who prefer quite study environment. Lots of student life activities in the dorms to help you get to know your neighbors well.

    Academic Rigor

Very Personalized education. Small classes with maximum 32 students. professors know everyone by name so they know when you are not doing so well in class and will help you in what ever way they can.

    Tips for prospective students

Expect a college where you know everyone and you can have a say in everything that goes around campus. The professors know you personally so a better learning environment. It is also open for diverse opportunities of internships and practicum.

    In three sentences

It is a small school for personalized education. The faculty and staff know each student by name and care for the well being of every individual. A unique college experience we will be gained from attending this college.

    Campus Safety

Even though I visited during Thanksgiving break, campus patrol was still doing their rounds.

    Food and Dining

You have many different options for food. There are always about eight different kinds of food being served in the cafeteria itself. But then you also have little food places around campus to chose from.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are great. They are just the right size, and the closets are even spacious.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor seems to be very rigorous, which will be good when looking for a job.

    In three sentences

The campus was beautiful and the people were really welcoming. The campus is also self-contained, so you can go off campus to Walmart if you want to, but you really have no need to. The class sizes are small, which means more one-on-one time with the instructors.

    Food and Dining

The dining staff are gorgeous. They're so friendly and just very lovely in general. The food however is not amazing but to be fair it's not that bad. More than and good enough to get you through the day.

    Dorm Life

Regardless of the type of dorm life you demand there's a dorm to fit all. There's the polar ends and everything in between.

    Academic Rigor

Teacher's work hard to make sure you get the est grade possible but of course you have to pull your own weight too. Do the work and academically you'll be absolutely fine.

    What to do for fun

From white water rafting to zip lining, there is always something to participate in. On the weekends there is always an activity available so kids aren't sitting in their dorm room miserable Then during the week when you are not studying, doing homework, or at a sporting practice you can always play pool at the bottom of the the dorms or madden center, take a dip in the pool, or go on a nature walk. The faculty here make it a priority to always provide students with as many activities as they can, which is always great.

    Food and Dining

The food at Davis and Elkins definitely varies from day to day. There are always many options available each day. There is almost always a sandwich bar open for lunch and also a salad bar open 24/7. Then on other days they will have different stations open as well, for example, the Mexican or Asian station, which are absolutely delicious. Then of course every day there is the lunch line with deserts and usually pizza. Regardless of your taste there are so many options, that one never goes away hungry.

    Dorm Life

Depending on where you are placed they all are very accommodating to your needs. There are dressers, closets, beds, desks, and chairs available. The only complaint I would have to address would be the air conditioning. Most of the dorms besides International and Perez do not have controllable air conditioning, which makes sleeping at night very difficult. Each dorm hallway has an RA, or resident assistant, that is very helpful. If anything breaks or stops working you notify them and they get it taken care of immediately. They are always there if you need anything, which helps people tremendously. Overall I feel that the dorms at Davis and Elkins are more than sufficient.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers at this school are extremely intelligent and know what they need to know about their course. They are willing to go the extra mile for students, so they are able to succeed. When it comes to discipline I feel like a lot of teachers leave your success or failure up to you. They do not care to your every need, but they make sure your following their rules. If you come to class, do you work, and give 100% all the time you will be sure to do well.

    Tips for prospective students

Students who are thinking of attending here need to come with an open mind. Not everything on campus will fit their needs exactly, but there is something for everyone. Also regardless of what you came to Davis and Elkins for, just remember that academics come first over everything, and with a great staff that is always willing to help you can accomplish whatever you set your mind too.

    In three sentences

Davis and Elkins College is a school that strives for you to succeed. The school may be a very petite school, but there is always something excited scheduled for students to attend. There is no way possible someone could not enjoy attending school here.

    Greek Life

Not much Greek life here, but the students are working on bringing it back.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and activities you can get into here. Just to list a few: Paintball, Ultimate Frisbee, Outdoors club, Chess, Taboo club, Anime, Art club, Sports - Baseball, Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Tennis, etc.

Great for these types of students

If you have trouble with certain classes the Support Learning Program will go out of its way to help you. Also if you have a learning disability D&E will make sure you get all the help you need.

    What to do for fun

There is tons of stuff to do for fun. Many different clubs are ready for you to join as well as students who just like meeting new people. There is a bar on campus called the Ice House that has live music and karaoke.

    Food and Dining

It's definitely better than my high school's food. There is a dining hall and it's fairly large. We have a hot bar where they have different food every day, like country fried steak, mash potatoes, some kind of vegetable. Also they usually have different pizzas during lunch and sometimes dinner. They have a good salad bar and usually Asian food during lunch. Breakfast is usually really good, pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, cereal, etc. There's also fountain drinks and different juices and milks available. Ice cream and desserts are always available as well.

    Dorm Life

I'm not a socialite so I don't get out and do much. The conditions of the dorm rooms are better than some places I've seen, but they are not top notch either. The RA's are usually friendly and I've yet to have a problem with anyone in the same dorm area as me.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what degree you are wanting the intensity of the academic work varies. Nursing is extremely rigor while Arts are easier.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have trouble with certain areas, D&E has a Supported learning program that helps students that have trouble with classes. Also the Supported Learning program helps students with learning disabilities. Don't be afraid to ask anyone anything, D&E is a very friendly campus.

    In three sentences

Davis & Elkins college accepts students from all over the world including Europe, Canada, the United States, etc. They ave a great education plan for almost any degree and plenty of ways to make sure one gets the help they need to earn that degree. Also D&E is a safe and friendly place to go to college; I give it a three star rating, (dorms could be a little better).

    What to do for fun

Every first Friday of the month there is a series of events that occur in downtown Elkins, called First Friday. Students that live on campus get a meal voucher for $6 that they can use towards their meal at certain eateries downtown such as the Kissel Stop Cafe or Papa John's. Activities include watching professionals do magic tricks, play with fire (the Ohio Burn Unit), live music, photo booths, etc. that are all free for the students and community. It's a great way to get involved with the community. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) also offers many activities throughout the school year for students to participate in, such as Toasty Tuesday (during the Winter months) where students can get different treats such as hot chocolate and s'mores, photo tiles (where you get your picture taken a put on a floor tile), teddy bear stuffers (where you can choose one animal from a selection of different animals to have stuffed and keep as your own), etc. There are also many dances that are planned throughout the year, such as Homecoming, Snowball, Valentine's Day, etc. The first weekend in May is the D©j  Vu Festival where a pop/hip-hop artist performs on Friday evening, and a country singer performs on Saturday evening. Both concerts are followed by dances at The Pit.

    Food and Dining

For the most part, the food is very good. Sometimes you might have different varieties of chicken for dinner every night (which gets a little boring), but there are other options if you don't want to eat chicken. There is a pizza station, a salad bar, a made-to-order sandwich station, an international station, breakfast station, a hot dog station, a hot station (which offers nachos, tacos, pasta, etc.), and a healthy station. These stations aren't always open every night (with the exception of the salad bar), but when they are, it's always good eating. There is also Cadillac Daddy Cafe downstairs in the Madden Center that offers many different combos and options if you don't want to eat in the cafeteria. The C-Store is located next door to the cafe where you can get all of your dorm needs, such as milk, chips, cookies, cereal (in a cup), ice cream, water, and different Coca-Cola products. This is included in the meal plan cost. The less meals you eat in the dining hall, the more money you get to use at Cadillac Daddy's. For example, if you choose to have 10 meals a week in the dining hall, then you get $200 to use at Cadillac Daddy's, compared to 19 meals a week and $100 to spend.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great. You get to meet a lot of new people and have the opportunity to make friends before the first day of class. Sometimes you may not have an ideal roommate, but sitting down and establishing boundaries will make everything easier for the both of you. Also, your neighbors may not be all that great, but if you talk to them about your problem with them, then you may be able to figure out a solution that you like and that they won't be mad about having to do. The RA's are there to help you out with these problems and others that may arise during your stay as a student. They are very friendly and helpful.

    Academic Rigor

Some teachers don't give a lot of assignments throughout the semester, but that doesn't mean you should slack off. You should continue to study because you don't know if there will be a pop quiz or not. Studying also helps reinforce what you have learned that day in class. Other teachers have you doing many assignments throughout the semester. It depends on the teacher and their methods of evaluation, and what level class you are taking. The expectations the teachers have of you increase each year you are there.

    Tips for prospective students

1.) Make sure you have a comfortable pair of tennis shoes. 2.) Make sure you bring winter gear with you on move in day (or buy closer to October) because snow comes early. 3.) Plan your classes accordingly-make sure you have enough time to get from one class to the next without being late. 4.) Make sure you know where your classes are before the first day of class. 5.) Do your homework-it makes your life easier if the professor happens to give a pop quiz. 6.) Utilize every resource that you can: the Writing Center, the Naylor Learning Center (they have tutors for almost every subject; if there isn't a tutor for the subject that you want, all you have to do is ask for one), study groups, the library, professors, etc. 7.) Take good notes-it'll help when studying for tests. 8.) Get involved-it not only looks good on a resume, but will also help you make new friends.

    In three sentences

The professors, faculty, and staff are very friendly. There are a multitude of extra-curricular activities for everyone to get involved in. The diversity is great for making new friends and learning about other cultures.
