Categories Comments Great for these types of students De Anza is a great school for students who like to get ahead and like to work hard. Since it's a quarter system, it's more for the type of students that can work at a fast pace.
Tips for prospective students As I mentioned before, get there super early to get a parking space. Also, register for classes when it's your time to- classes fill up FAST. And always, check ratemyprofessors.com for the classes you are taking. You never know which teacher is right- or wrong- for you.
Bang for the buck Even going to a community college can be a bit pricey these days, but I feel that De Anza College is a very affordable school at $13/unit. Affording college is, well, AFFORDABLE at De Anza College.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being at this school a whole lot. There is a ton of opportunities to meet new people, get involved in many different school activities, and getting ahead in your education. The one thing I do not enjoy about this school is the parking. With so many students here, it might be best to get there at least an hour early before your class- just to get a parking space! Other than that, this school is great and I enjoy being there.
Am learning a lot Although De Anza College is a community college, I feel that you can get so much more out of this school rather than going straight into a university. The classes & teachers are there to help you reach your goal as much as they can, whether it's in your education, career, or life. I feel like I'm getting the aid to get where I want to be in life at De Anza College because of all of the things I've learned in my time being there.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for all types of students. There are many different people at De Anza, both traditional and non-traditional. There are online and night classes for full-time workers as well as classes starting as early as 7:30am for morning people like me. Many classes available so timing should not be a problem with those who work.
Tips for prospective students Register early! It's important to register at 5am on your chosen registration date. I know it sounds early but it's really important because it can make the difference between getting a class or not. Make sure to check the availability of the classes you want ahead of time so when registration comes, you won't be freaked out about what class you will take if you can't get the one you want. Also, be sure to sign into the MyDeAnza portal to register at around 4:45am because there are thousands of students signing on at the same time. Don't waste time. Make sure to take at least 15 transferable units a quarter so you don't get behind. There are many students who don't take enough units when they first start and they end up staying an extra year because of it. Don't make the same mistake! Meet with a counselor if you're confused because they are there to help. Do take the time to meet people in your classes. They can help with your coursework and help make the time go by faster when in class. And who knows, maybe they'll turn out to be a new friend! Do apply for financial aid. I qualified for the BOG fee waiver and had all my registration fees paid for me my first year. Definitely worth applying. Don't slack off. This is not anything like high school. If you screw up, your grades will reflect that and your professors won't change your grade just because you give them a sob story or beg them to change it. It's a time to get serious. You are there to learn. Lastly, have fun! Enjoy the experience because it goes by quickly.
Bang for the buck Definitely getting your money's worth. At $17 a unit, registration fees are only about $816 a year! that's only about 1/6 the price of some of the cheaper 4-year schools! You really get your money's worth at De Anza. Going here saves thousands of dollars a year for the same quality education. Since you spend your first two years taking GE classes anyway, it's best to get a great education at a great price. Definitely recommend this school.
Am enjoying being here College is so much better than high school. You get the freedom to choose what classes you take and when. College life at De Anza is pretty cool. Since it's a community college, students don't live on campus but there are still tons of ways to meet people. With over a hundred different clubs you can meet people who share your same interests. The easiest way to meet people though is in your classes. Making friends in class makes the class much more enjoyable and makes the time go by much faster. Many of the teachers assign group work which is the perfect time to meet people. There are also many events that occur around lunch time which bring the students together.
Am learning a lot De Anza is a great school, one of the top community colleges in the state. All the teachers are well-educated, most with Master's and Doctorate Degrees. They truly care about their students and they are always available to help after class.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students that are very education-focused. This is not a school for students who just want to have fun.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you do research yourself when you're trying to apply at an out of state university. The counselors at De Anza generally can't help you out as well as you can. Make sure you take a good look at requirements for certain schools.
Bang for the buck Since De Anza is using a Quarter system, instead of a Semester, classes are shorter and lessons may be accelerated in order to cover all material that is required to be taught. That and adding to the budget cuts make classes very expensive to take. In order to take advantage of the classes you have paid for, you would have to take up every single information taught, including learning outside of class with your teacher's office hours.
Did enjoy being here From the outside looking in, the school looks overcrowded and kind of boring. However, I thought it was absolutely peaceful and tranquil - the perfect place for a real scholar. There were enough flowing trees for shade, but there was enough spaces for sunlight to peak through. The campus is really clean because everywhere you go, there's bound to be a trashcan nearby, along with a recycle bin for recyclables. This environment allowed students to study out in the open without being interrupted by noise. However, because it is a community college, most students go to school with the intention of transferring, and because of this, there aren't many student activities. Of course, there are clubs, but the campus is usually quiet with the occasional chatter between students. It might be a little boring for students who want some activities in their school.
Did learn a lot The teachers that I've had the chance to know are absolutely amazing. However, you must know that I used Rate My Professor. For me personally, I believe that having a great, or even decent teacher, is the best way to learn. They are your educators and they are the expert in whatever subject you're trying to learn about. In my experience, every single class I ever took at De Anza, my teachers were passionate about their knowledge of the subject and seemed to want their students to know just why they are so passionate about it. I really was inspired to learn in my classes because of that kind of attitude that was presented to the students.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Be sure to qualify as an in-state resident before applying to this college or you'll be spending thousands on tuition on just the first few quarters that you attend.
Am learning a lot My teachers have shown that they are passionate about the subject they teach. It's not like high school, where you just take notes, study and do homework and that's all you really get from a class. You actually learn beyond than you would from an ordinary class.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities They have a good set of clubs and activities. If you wish to participate, there is plenty to choose from.
Great for these types of students People looking for an education but want to save money.
What to do for fun Join clubs and explore the neighborhood.
Food and Dining Nothing special I suppose.
Dorm Life De Anza does not have residential dorms.
Tips for prospective students There are no requirements for enrolling and the process is incredibly simple. The classes are very inexpensive. Make sure to visit the campus and get a feel for the school and go to the Open House event.
In three sentences Great school for a great price. There are a variety of classes, clubs, and services available to students. De Anza really wants to help their students succeed.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Food sucks. Go off campus to eat or get the chinese food or unomas.
Academic Rigor I've heard it is harder than some state schools, and the quarter system is a little difficult to navigate since things go so fast. It is not a school for slackers; if you want to slack off, go to west valley haha
In three sentences It's a great school for transferring, not so much if you want to just get your associates. It's main focus is getting people in and out and transfered.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The Police is around throughout school and close school hours. They roam around every second of every day always checking around that everything is A okay.
Greek Life De Anza has many parties that they have planned and set out for those who like the night/party life. They are always posted outside in the bulletin.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for every ethnic group and any sport you can think of.
Great for these types of students If you are a leader or like to action for what you believe in, programs such as joining the presidential committee is for you. Many teachers and students also go out in Sacramento once to twice a year to protest about school budget.De A
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We always have karaoke day where people perform in front of the out side dinning area in the afternoon. There is also a mini carnival that takes place in the main quad a couple times a month where cotton candy and games are provided for free.
Bang for the buck The amount you pay per class is considered cheap when compared to any other schools. You get your moneys worth every time you attend class!
What to do for fun The gym is free for students to go to, track field. The library offers a variety of uses. Many people like to hangout in the dinning area along with the outside eating area.
Food and Dining The food is good considering it is from school. The amount given is fair along with the prices.
Dorm Life It is not provided by the college. No Dorms
Academic Rigor Research on the professors before taking their class.
Tips for prospective students Always go to class early to make sure you get a seat and not miss anything because teachers start lectures exactly at the time posted. Parking is hard to find so beware. Take advantage of all the programs and benefits they have for students.
In three sentences They have a variety of teachers to choose from in every subject. De Anza is always clean along with a high rate of green promoters. Impacted with students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There's a lot of cops on and off campus areas. De Anza and foothill college district have a district police so the safety is not a big concern for many students. Also it's in the city of Cupertino which has a sheriff department and there's always patrols going around the campus.
Greek Life Sadly de Anza doesn't offer one
Clubs and Activities There's a lot of clubs that range from ethnic backgrounds to musical and religious beliefs.
Great for these types of students It's great for students that are serious about their academics most classes require a lot of work but you do learn. Great for visual leathers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's plenty of open areas to study in and just enjoy nature. The Fujitsu planetarium is a great place to catch a movie or maybe a laser show inside the dome like roof. The pool is also beautiful, it's huge and the surrounding area is built like an old roman stadium with a pool instead of dirt.
Bang for the buck De Anza is a great college to attend if you plan on making academics a priority. For a community college, de Anza offers a wide variety of classes to accommodate students and their transferring needs, and plenty of electives to keep your mind working and staying active.
What to do for fun We have clubs, team sports, plenty of physical education classes for all with a huge variety to chose from. There's also a planetarium which offers movies, or laser shows. If your a person whom likes nature an studying on open spaces de Anza also offers plenty of quads and areas to enjoy nature and peacefulness when you study, read etc.
Food and Dining The food is not the best but its also not horrible. If your looking for a good meal your better off bringing lunch from home. A bit expensive, but their is plenty of variety from Chinese to Mexican, and plenty more.
Dorm Life There isn't on campus living here.
Academic Rigor Some professors take their classes less seriously than students so make sure you read the reviews at ratemyproffesor.com before choosing them. All in all most of the other faculty is great, their always has to be office hours so if you need help professors are there. The classes and class sizes are huge in the beginning of the quarter but as time goes they get smaller and the student professor interaction gets better.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you choose your classes in time because they fill up fast yet lot of the students drop within two weeks so if your in the wait list just be patient. Take advantage of everything offered at de Anza it will make your stress levels relatively low because their is help everywhere if you just look for it.
In three sentences De Anza college is a very good college if your trying to get your academics done fast. They have a quarter system which keeps the flow moving and it keeps you on your toes. The atmosphere is very friendly, and the campus is great if you love nature, plenty of trees and squirrels and its also very clean.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Like I said clubs would probably be your best bet for fun and their off-campus activities that they sponsor.
Food and Dining The food on campus isn't worth buying nor trying since most of it tastes like it's been frozen for months or the ingredients have been sitting around all day. They could use a new cafeteria as well as a more elaborate and neo-healthy-freshly-friendly menu, if that's even possible. Things like a 100% Angus burger on a grilled ciabatta roll with roasted red bell peppers and arugula served with lemon herb carrots and watercress would sweeeeet. I wouldn't mind laying down 5 bucks for that or even a freshly grilled tomato, basil, and mozzarella panini. Though I'd have to be eating it in a remodeled cafeteria or at least outside on a table that has an umbrella.. Outside of that the food off campus is 5 stars with Panera, Togo's, Island Burger Cafe, Ikes Lair, Whole Foods, and Jamba Juice all within walking distance!
Dorm Life To be honest this college does not offer dorms or living quarters since it is a two-year college and people are going in and out of here constantly but there are some lofty apartments around the neighborhood and even in nearby cities like Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, and my hometown San Jose.. the S babies.
Academic Rigor Most classes are what you read is what you get instead of what you see is what you get. You may expect to see a nutty professor and nutty students not doing the right things but you'll go home and start reading the material you discusses/worked on in class and figure out that this stuff is pretty rigorous.
Tips for prospective students 1. Absolutely and I mean ABSOLUTELY register for classes ahead of time even try registering a month or two in advance or at least have a solid idea of what class you want to take 2. Join at least one club that interests you to help build your connections and if you can't find one that does check out the on-campus events they have or the off-campus events some clubs host and go from there 3. Finally, just have fun and make sure you stay on top of your work because one little slip no matter what college you go to can put you into a whirlwind of trouble, grrr..
In three sentences The campus is all around very scenic with all of it's trees and freshly paved pathways. The students, staff, and professors/teachers are inviting and are extremely friendly. De Anza College is hands down a great two-year college to help boost not only your life skills but to get you prepared for the outside world and a transfer Uni or UC!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who wish to pursue their education in an friendly and intelligent environment should consider De Anza College. The classes allow the optimum efficiency for learning and the teachers are saints when it comes to student satisfaction and achievment.s
Tips for prospective students Prospective students who are hesitant in choosing this college should think about how much value their education is to them. If prospective student decides that education is a necessity of life, or an invaluable asset of consciousness, then De Anza should not require a single moment of thought.
Bang for the buck for about 17 $ a unit, this community college is an absolute bargain for the amount of knowledge and friendliness. There are a myriad of scholarships that De Anza offer to its students. With such help, it is implausible to think anyone would have a financially difficult time attending De Anza college
Am enjoying being here If a social environment is what you're looking for, then look no further. De Anza College has a huge amount of students attending and the hospitality of the general population cannot be described by mundane words. Many times have I gotten lost and inquired about directions, only to find that the students and faculty there not only tell me the direction, but also incline to offer me advice on who to ask if i get lost.
Am learning a lot De Anza is a college for those who thirst for knowledge. The general education classes here are absolutely incredible. I have taken classes which range from environmental science to legal studies, and I can proudly accept the fact that I have been extremely ignorant of the vast knowledge that I have been privileged to witness. It is impossible for me to deny that the vast majority of CA Redwood Trees have been chopped down, or even that reality is a combination of action and form.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students De Anza works with a quarter system, which means that there are 4 quarters in a year: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. The pace is much faster, and even faster in Summer. But if you are the motivated and fast paced, competitive type student, you should really consider going to this college.
Tips for prospective students I would say that De Anza is a very popular school, so prospecting students should know that it is very competitive to get into lower division courses for your major. Also, even though it is a community college doesn't mean that it is easier than a university college, you must really focus and work hard!!
Bang for the buck This community college has very intelligent professors that teach there, who come from schools of higher education that you would expect to be teaching in university's. So going to De Anza doesn't necessarily mean that you won't get the same education as a university, it's just cheaper and you can really take advantage of this if you have Financial Aid.
Am enjoying being here This community college is a relatively short commute, and that is a good thing about this school. The school is very diverse and has many clubs that you can be involved in. De Anza being one of the top community colleges to transfer from, it's very popular! So there are so many students you can meet and it is very interesting to such diverse backgrounds in a community college!
Am learning a lot De Anza is a great community college to attend because it has a variety of professors that come from prestigious schools and can provide you with a great quality of knowledge. I have spent a year in this school and i have taken classes with very intelligent professors from schools that you would also hope to be in someday.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Outgoing, active, committed
Tips for prospective students Don't worry about not getting into a class that first day, go back the next day, and the next till the teacher adds you.
Bang for the buck I really do my research on my teachers before I sign up for a class. My first year I had to drop a class because I could not deal with the teacher and the teacher couldn't deal with me. Other than that, awesome school.
Am enjoying being here A beautiful campus and there is always an activity by the food court to keep people entertained.
Am learning a lot There is an amazing amount of diversity on the campus as well as in the class room, I am learning from the moment I step out of the car!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Competitive students, especially those willing to fight for spots in classes (it's pretty much a requirement as some classes are near impossible to get in to). You should be motivated as well, and willing to be social and more out there. Students there already have their cliques generally, and there are a ton of people who go there-it's easy to get lost.
Tips for prospective students If you are an early bird, sign up for 7:30 or 8:30AM classes. You will be able to have your choice of parking spaces. If you wait until 9:30, it will be harder to find parking, and you will end up having to leave the house earlier to get to class on time anyways. Be to your classes (and ON TIME) on the first day. If you aren't you can and probably will be dropped (yes, even if your late they can drop you). If you are waitlisted, still go to class for that week, even if the teacher keeps telling you they aren't adding anyone. Many students don't show up the 1st day, or drop it after a few days, which bumps you up.
Bang for the buck Classes are definitely affordable. However, books can become very expensive, especially if the only copies left are the new ones -.- If you can, go to your instructor's page as soon as you sign up for the class so you can look at their green sheet and find which books you need. You can generally get them for way cheap on amazon, but also can buy them used/rent them at the campus bookstore. Also, if all are sold out definitely check out the college bookstore across the street (next to Togos). You can also go there to sell old books, they take almost all of them. If you go to buy your books too late at the campus bookstore, though, they will generally be sold out and want you to order a new one through them, which is crazy expensive.
Am enjoying being here There is a ton of school spirit when it comes to current events, fundraisers, clubs, etc. Right now we are having the Walk a Mile in her Shoes march, and almost everyone in my classes is signed up and attending it. The same thing happened for the March on March 4th at the capitol (supporting teachers and school funding).
Am learning a lot I came from one of the top distinguished high schools in California, so for me the classes aren't terribly hard. But for someone who went to the average high school, classes may be a bit more difficult. I did, however, learn a TON in my sociology class with Mari Huerta, as well as in my psychology class with Goesling (hint hint!). Wasn't too impressed with my philosophy teacher-I've heard the same thing from other students as well. Overall, the teachers are great, helpful, and if they see you putting in the effort, they will work with you and help you succeed. Oh! And child development with Cordero is awesome! Anyone going into nursing, teaching, etc. should definitely take this class!

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Go see a counselor as soon as possible, i would have been done sooner if I had.
Bang for the buck it's not that expensive and you get a lot of thing for what you pay for, like an on campus attorney which i found out we had the second year.
Am enjoying being here there are times i really like it but then there are times where i wonder if this is how all colleges are and hope it's not. the one thing that would make it more enjoyable is for them to have more events to meet other students
Am learning a lot there are some teachers that are just horrible and i couldn't learn anything from them but then there are some teachers that i love and could not wait to go to there class to learn

Categories Comments Campus Safety morning, afternoon, and night. campus police/security are there to assist you for whatever reason it may be. they are helpful so do not hesitate to ask for help.
Greek Life no greek life.
Bang for the buck it is somewhat expensive but starting in the summer, it's only going to get more expensive. so i suggest applying for financial aid but do not let the cost stop you from making your goal. also apply to scholarships that are available from the school or other places where you can find them.
What to do for fun what is there to do for fun? well there can be a wide range. you can join a club or create your own if nothing interests you, play school sports, act in a play. you just have to open your eyes and see whats out there on campus.
Food and Dining the cafeteria provides variety of food for students who are looking to eat something different. if you want to know what will be on the menu for the day, you can look at the school newspaper and it will tell you. but overall, the food is excellent.
Dorm Life since de anza is a community college there is no dorm life here. however, college life at de anza is fair.
Academic Rigor the academic life at dac is slightly harsh. but it can be different in some departments just depends where you are.
Tips for prospective students research, research, and do some more research. find what major you truly want to major in and then find the best college. on the other hand, if you are undecided (which is fine) find a college that can help or help broaden your horizon to see what interest you.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities i have been involved with a few clubs but my favorite and the one i've spent most time in is anime club. i have made long lasting good friends through this club. everyone is welcoming and friendly and i have had an overall positive experience. there are also many other clubs catering to a variety of many other interests.
Food and Dining the food is pretty good although a bit over priced.
Dorm Life well there is none but the school has a busy atmosphere, with a lot going on.
Academic Rigor it is fairly challenging depending on the course.

Categories Comments Campus Safety due to an incident that occurred years ago where a student planted bombs around the school, the campus security are now actual policemen, so that's a plus. you can go to the campus police department if you're ever in trouble.
Clubs and Activities there are many clubs here to choose from to join of your liking. if you do not have an interest in any of these clubs, you are allowed to create your own club with approval. club days are held i believe every quarter except summer that you can check out.
Great for these types of students if you want to save money, which most people do, this school is great for you. you save a large amount of money attending here before you transfer. the saying, you get what you pay for., does not apply here at all, attending this college, you get way more than what you pay for, which is a great advantage especially in our current economic crisis.
Bang for the buck what you pay to attend this college is very well worth it. cheap because it's a community college, a community college with a high transfer rate. the courses aren't too easy nor are they ridiculously difficult. de anza is also a quarter system school so you can transfer faster if dedicated.
What to do for fun de anza's campus is very peaceful in general so going for a little stroll around campus is fun. in the cafeteria there is also a piano there for anyone who would like to play to play.
Food and Dining the food served here is very good. the cafeteria serves restaurant quality food and there are also other places on campus, such as the bookstore and cafe that sell a wide range of snacks and packaged foods. random vending machines are also located in various areas on campus.
Dorm Life there aren't any dorms on campus here, it's a community college.
Academic Rigor the courses taught here are a bit challenging, but that's typical, for they are college courses. as long as you put in the work and study, you should do fine with your classes. some classes are easier than others of course, but all it takes is perseverance.
Tips for prospective students after you apply here and are enrolled, if you are academically disadvantaged whether it be financially or academically in general, make sure you apply to eops!! this program helps out students who are academically disadvantaged guiding them to success and also giving students the upper-hand of early registration for classes as de anza is very impacted!
In three sentences de anza college is filled with many helpful professors and staff who just want you to transfer and are willing to answer any questions you have. the campus has a very tranquil feel being very spacious, filled with plants, and smoke-free. the people all around are very friendly, creating a safe and mutual environment.

Food and Dining big selection of food
Academic Rigor just stay on top of your work and its easy
Tips for prospective students have a back up classes, just in case your not able to get in. and always keep going to the class until the teacher says were not taking anymore students
In three sentences overall school is pretty decent, takes awhile to get the classes you need due to budget cuts. great transfer rate, if thats what you plan on doing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I never usually have to worry about my safety. There's always police men walking around, supervising the campus.
Great for these types of students Students who love the bay area!
What to do for fun School clubs and weekly activities like the flea market on the weekends.
Food and Dining there's plenty of great food and restaurants conveniently located around the school
Dorm Life de anza does not have dorms.
Academic Rigor It's difficult in usually major classes and not so much in minor classes.
Tips for prospective students Work hard and don't forget to study.
In three sentences De Anza college is convenient. The teachers there are great and they're always willing to listen and help.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is a Police station in the campus, and they are willing to help and protect you if you need safety. However, it is an open-campus, therefore always try to be aware of your surroundings.
Clubs and Activities There are many different clubs that you can join in, and you will be able to sign up during club day which is I believe once or twice every quarter.
Great for these types of students Transfer and on-budget students.
Bang for the buck Classes and tuition are cheap once you apply for Financial Aid!
What to do for fun Attending club activities and getting to know people from De Anza. It is always fun to interact with other people and make friends!
Food and Dining Cafeteria food is okay and a little expensive, I would not say that it is the best because there are many other restaurants near the campus. Usually, people pack their lunch from home or eat outside of the campus.
Dorm Life There is not any dorm on campus, but housing is available near De Anza.
Academic Rigor Classes can be tough since De Anza is based on a quarter-system, however if you are dedicated on your studies, you will succeed with a high grade.
Tips for prospective students It's best to do a research on who your Professors are going to be!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt safe at De Anza. Cupertino is generally a safe neighborhood. I do not believe any violent activity has happened at De Anza for the past three years I have been here.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs on campus. On club day you will witness multiple clubs circling in front of the library. You will definitely find something you are interested in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The cafeteria is always filled with an exciting, college atmosphere. There is nothing really unusual about the campus. It is beautiful.
Bang for the buck There is a $5 movie theater across the street at The Oaks shopping center, as well as many food vendors around the area.
What to do for fun De Anza has many clubs and activities on campus. There is the flea market the first Saturday of every month, $5 movies across the street at the Oaks, and many food vendors around the block.
Food and Dining The food at De Anza was good. I especially liked the salad and the curly fries. The prices were a bit high, but reasonable.
Academic Rigor The courses at De Anza are challenging enough to prepare me for my four year college.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to leave your house early enough to get parking during the first week of class. Be sure to study throughout the quarter so you do not kill yourself towards the end. Also talk to a counselor so you do not waste your time and money.
In three sentences De Anza College provided the right education for me for the past three years. The teachers helped me by providing challenging life lessons and the counselors have been a big help by advising what classes to take. De Anza was the perfect community college to prepare me for my next college experience.

Categories Comments Food and Dining The food at the cafeteria is pretty good. If you want, you can always go to nearby restaurants such as Quickly, WholeFood, Panda Express, etc.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at De Anza.
Academic Rigor You will have to study hard, but all the assignments and projects are doable.
In three sentences The professors are great at De Anza College. All of them are very friendly and passionate about teaching. Because of the education budget cut in California, De Anza is experiencing increase of tuitions if you're out-of-state or international students. The majority of the students go to De Anza to transfer to 4-year-institutions.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Presently there is a lot under construction (which is good because they're upgrading, but tends to disrupt parts of the campus safety).
Great for these types of students Computer and technology. Not so much art. Athletes too!
Bang for the buck Great education for very cheap! Even the parking permits are cheap. I honestly believe one can get as good or better education from a JC like De Anza as one can get from a UC.
What to do for fun Being that I love sports, I'm inclined toward De Anza's athletic department. They have a new soccer field, tennis courts, golf area, and archery area.
Food and Dining I mostly enjoy the Espresso shop in the cafeteria. Those guys pay attention to quality ad love their work. I've had little of the cafeteria food, but i know it's better than Cabrillo College's food.
Dorm Life I haven't lived in the dorms and I don't know what the student housing is like.
Academic Rigor The classes are very thorough and cover a lot. This can be especially challenging in the night classes, but even a little effort can go a long way with the instructors. They pay close attention to who is working and who isn't. Auto mechanics is not easy and the courses are designed to weed out those that are not serious.
Tips for prospective students I most recommend that students use the instructors as much as possible. Fit in some one-on-one time with them and ask questions. Try to reap from their experience because that is invaluable in the automotive world. Finally, because automotive technology is becoming electronic, focus on electoral related classes. My father recently told me, to be an auto mechanic means to be an electrical engineer.
In three sentences The Automotive Technology Program offered at De Anza is well organized with availability of up to date equipment and technology. The teachers are extremely knowledgable and connect personally with the students, always being open to work individually — very important! I highly recommend this school and hope it can continue to find support through budget cuts and hard times.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never felt unsafe on campus. There is always a strong police presence on campus.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities Student life on campus is really limited. It is very difficult to start a club and most students are not interested in spending a lot of time making it work.
Bang for the buck Considering the cost of most community colleges around the nation, California Community Colleges are very inexpensive although you will hear students complain. They have no idea what the TRUE cost of an education really is and would be surprised to learn the discount they are getting via the state. Out of state and international students are fully aware of the true costs.
What to do for fun Fun? College is about studying and getting into the mindset of working hard as most of life will be this way. Occasionally, you can find time to hangout and talk with others or go to the movies. But keep it focused!
Food and Dining The food on campus is very expensive and not that great so make it only an occasional treat.
Dorm Life Only off campus living and the area surrounding campus is expensive area to rent space. If you allow plenty of time for your search and you time it to the beginning of the quarters you can find affordable living arrangements, just be prepared to be flexible.
Academic Rigor Some classes are way too easy and others seem to require a real focus and discipline. Approach every class with the idea that you will have to work hard for the grade and the easy classes will be a pleasant surprise.
Tips for prospective students Search out answers and never assume that what someone told you is true or fact. Spend the majority of your time studying and building a relationship with your instructors as this will help you in your time in the classroom.
In three sentences A good school for those serious about pursuing knowledge with their own motivation. Counseling here is not that great so get to know your catalog and your educational requirements. Build relationships with faculty, but remember to double check all that is told to you.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I recommend De Anza for any students that feel pressured to pay for college. This school provides excellent education and has some of the best teachers I've met. And this school is located in such a college student friendly area and has a lot of fun things to do close by.
Bang for the buck This school is definitely worth the money! You can get the same general education that everyone else is getting for a fraction of the price. The professors are great, the location is awesome, and the people are friendly. And because classes do not cost as much as other schools, I was able to try out different classes without feeling pressured. This was how I figured out what I wanted to major in. I tried different classes at this community school and I figured out what I wanted in the future. That is definitely worth the money!
What to do for fun There isn't much to do on campus other than club activities. But there are things right outside the school that you can go to for fun. There is a movie theater right across the street and it is very cheap, although it does not have the most recent movies out in theaters... And within 15-20 min driving distance, there is also a bowling alley, mini-golf, amusement park, and many more dining areas. And because this school is located in the bay area, you can visit Apple, Google, Facebook, and other cool places! And the beach, San Francisco, etc. are places to be if you're willing to drive an hour or so.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food can be overpriced, but if you know what to get, it should be okay. But De Anza is surrounded by a lot of dining areas. These include Quickly's, Panda Express, Ike's Place, Whole Foods, Togos, Thai, Japanese, Jamba Juice, Coffee Society, and many other places. All of them are walking distance so you can easily walk over and grab a bite. Most of them are fast food and college student friendly. Some even have De Anza student discount so make sure to get an ID card!
Dorm Life No Dorm
Academic Rigor I've taken both online and on-campus classes at De Anza. They are both rigorous and not easy. Some are easier than others, of course, but they all need that extra work to get an A. Just because it's a community college, don't underestimate it. The work that the professors expect of you is very high, and a lot of them know what they are doing.
Tips for prospective students I said this for Foothill College as well, but do not bring your car for first couple of weeks of school because it is almost impossible to find parking. There are a lot of buses that go by the school so if possible, take public transportation.
In three sentences A very lively community college with many classes and opportunities. Its location makes it an excellent place to meet up and hang out with friends. The variety of classes make it fun for students to choose their classes and they are taught well.

Academic Rigor Great! There a variety professor available for each class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There have been some questionable incidents on campus. I don't recall the Russian Strangler being apprehended. What about that crazy girl who stole a car and crashed it into the faculty parking spaces? Sorry for being an alarmist. De Anza is safe most of the time.
Greek Life Nope, no Greek life at De Anza. Except.. maybe the honors society .. phi theta kappa .. Get your geek on :)
Clubs and Activities Taekwondo, outdoor club, raw food club, pre-med.. what are you interested in? If the school doesn't have a club, apply to make your own.
Great for these types of students Great for students who need to stay close to home (whether for personal or financial reasons) before transferring to a 4-year. It is very well suited for students who can motivate themselves to work hard and actively seek out resources. There is also a huge international population here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Between the Trianon and the new California ECOT building, there is a little place with tables. If you venture far enough, you will encounter a really creepy cherub fountain.
Bang for the buck Best community college I've ever been to. If you put in the effort, you will go far.
What to do for fun Not much to do in Cupertino. Watch a movie at the Bluelight theatres across the street, at the Oaks Center, or hike Rancho San Antonio. You will probably see deer out for dinner if you go near sunset!
Food and Dining Can't really attest to the dining because I pack a bag lunch but there are always some delicious smells wafting through the rooms. Check out the food!
Dorm Life There are no on-campus dorms. Remember, junior college?? However!, living at home is cheap and you've probably been doing it most your life so you're a already a pro!
Academic Rigor De Anza is one of the top ranking community colleges in the state, probably second after Santa Monica College in transfer rates. But just as in every college, there are difficult and easy teachers. If you are a hard worker, you won't even know the difference.
Tips for prospective students Always talk with a counselor. Community College can be difficult if you don't have a plan in mind. Utilize the many resources in the library, like the extensive subscription databases and dvd collection. You already paid for it, am I right? Somehow, complaining makes the quarter last longer. Put your all into your studies and in the end, you will be proud of your achievements.
In three sentences Offers great financial assistance and even without, attending De Anza is very affordable. There are many support programs that helps students with academics and adjusting, like tutorial centers and language exchange programs. The environment is very laid back and you will meet a huge diverse group of people.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The number of active clubs and student organizations varies from quarter to quarter, easily fluctuating between 50 and 80. There are also plenty of spots around campus to just get together with friends and hangout, both indoor and outdoor, such as the Main Quad, the Campus Center (cafeteria), the computer labs spread across campus, the patio dining area, etc. A lot of events also happen in the Main Quad and on the Patio Stage from time to time, so if anything, you can give De Anza an A for effort in that they make sure campus life is not boring in the slightest.
Food and Dining The on-campus food is alright, but off-campus, we are surrounded by food places, and it all depends on whether or not you want to/can drive, or would prefer to walk. Plenty of food places abound, and most will accomodate a student discount, as all you have to do is ask and make sure you have your student ID on you.
Dorm Life Seeing as how De Anza is a community college, there are no on-campus dorms so there isn't really a dorm life here, but many students do live very close to campus and simply walk over when it's time to go to school. It's in a convenient location for most, and even for those who have to commute from farther places, most would surprise you by saying that it is worth the drive.
Academic Rigor There is a fair balance between easy classes and hard classes, but then everyone has their strengths and weaknesses across different areas, and will develop their own specific skill set. Depending on which area of study the classes you take fall under, you can either have an easy but fulfilling schedule, or a hard but rewarding schedule.
Tips for prospective students Do not be afraid to talk to anyone, or ask questions. Take the time to explore the campus, from the faculty to the places and even your fellow students.
In three sentences A great atmosphere that makes you want to learn. Academics that will challenge you, but will reward you if you are willing to put in the work. Full of surprises, as you can find and learn things that you would not expect to from this place.

Food and Dining De Anza has one of the greatest foods and college could possibly have. The Mexican grill Una Mas is my favorite food there.
Dorm Life No Dorms
Academic Rigor Though this college is way more rigorous than any other community college i know it is worth it because in the long wrong it will get you prepared if you are planning on transferring.
Tips for prospective students Take full advantage of all the programs that De Anza has to offer. Join clubs, go see guest speakers, and socialize.

Great for these types of students ALL TYPES! I can honestly say De Anza has an incredible diverse student body. Many engineer majors, biological sciences, art... you name it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that i'm aware of.
Bang for the buck Definitely worth your money. Lots of great programs that will help you financially. You really get a great education for your money.
What to do for fun This school is in the heart of the silicon valley. Lots of cool tech companies. But thats not the fun stuff. there is a mall and movie theatre less than a mile away. and a neat little shopping area literally across the street from the college!
Food and Dining BEST CAFETERIA! i have visited many college cafeterias, De Anza is by far the best. Even out ranks some Universities.
Dorm Life no dorms.
Academic Rigor Challenging but rewarding.
Tips for prospective students DEFINITELY GO TO DE ANZA! Community college is a great choice if you want to save money, and De Anza is the best of the best.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is campus police patrolling the school at all times.
Clubs and Activities There are a lot of clubs, however getting admitted into a club is a different story.
Great for these types of students Students who wish to transfer or are international students should consider this school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are various fountains and hallways that can create the logo of the school.
Bang for the buck Every year the prices go up, but at least it is cheaper than the universities.
What to do for fun Santana Row and Westfield Valley Fair are really close to the school. There are various shopping centers for students to visit.
Food and Dining The food is alright. It is fairly expensive
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Just like any school, work hard you will achieve. This is a second chance to get into the schools you want.
Tips for prospective students Remember to work hard and don't slack off because the quarter system shortens the time frame you have for memorizing facts.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always take night classes and have never once felt unsafe walking to my car across campus alone.
Greek Life None.
Clubs and Activities Clubs don't really do much on campus besides hold their meetings.
Great for these types of students Great for students who have yet to figure out a major and want to save a ton of money. Also, if you didn't get into the UC of your choice, it's a second chance to get in, using the Transfer Agreement Guarantee or T.A.G.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus When I was attending, there would always be break dancers practicing inside the orange theater.
Bang for the buck You'll get your money's worth if you use ratemyprofessor.com and go to class. If you pick an easy teacher, you'll definitely get a good grade, but not necessarily learn anything. So if it's a prerequisite for one of your major courses, choose a challenging professor that will prepare you for your transfer.
What to do for fun There are many clubs and P.E classes you can do for fun, but most students just choose to hang out off campus at a local eatery or hit the clubs in San Francisco.
Food and Dining On Thursdays, they serve bow-tie pasta with bacon and chicken. It is heavenly. But the sandwich's they sell are amazing. The bread and ingredients come from Le Boulanger, one of the best sandwich shops out there. Unfortunately, the menu never changes, so after a year of the same food, you'll eventually start bringing your own lunch. This will also save you hundreds of dollars.
Dorm Life No dorm life.
Academic Rigor It is generally quite relaxed at De Anza. But depending on you're major the academic rigor increases exponentially. For example, the economics and humanities classes are very easy, but physics and calculus forced me to attend the tutoring center.
Tips for prospective students -Don't be shy in class. -Speak up and talk to your teacher if you're having trouble, most are there to help. -ALWAYS go to the tutoring center. You'll make good friends with good habits there. The tutors and students there are absolutely amazing. -Take a class that you find interesting or want to learn, it'll make the day less stressful.
In three sentences De Anza is one of the few community colleges that actually offers a community as well as good faculty. Friends are important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but there are many students who forget that they are there to transfer and sadly begin to slack off. Overall, De Anza college is a great junior college; you just need to focus just as you would any other college.

Great for these types of students Transfer Students, First Time College Students
What to do for fun Discount movies for students across the street at Bluelight Cinemas, and several good places to eat and grab coffee. There's also some great nightlife options available in San Jose and if you're up for a drive SF isn't too far either!
Food and Dining Not much to brag about, the cafeteria has very little options but I do have to give them kudos for the vegetarian items on their menus. The school also has two little cafes in the campus center that are both excellent.
Dorm Life No dorms that I know of, but you'll get a similar atmosphere by joining clubs and getting to know other students.
Academic Rigor Challenging courses with great teachers that care about your success.
Tips for prospective students Register for classes as early as possible because they fill up quickly and definitely talk to a counselor if you need help finding out what you need to take. If you want to avoid crowded parking lots, get to class early and consider taking evening classes.

Clubs and Activities Saltworks is the best club!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Sunken Garden is a nice little spot to eat lunch :)
What to do for fun There are a lot of different clubs on campus, but other than that I'm not sure what else they offer for fun.
Food and Dining The food is okay, there are a lot of choices. It's too expensive for me to eat there. There are a lot of places to eat, but its hard to find somewhere comfortable during bad weather.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life that I am aware of. I live off campus.
Academic Rigor There isn't a lot of pressure but some teachers just want you to do things on your own so it seems hard and demanding but I think some are just trying to teach independence.
Tips for prospective students Talk to people who have been there before. Find someone who can show you around, there are SO many resources I never knew about that have helped me so much.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The turtle between L Quad and the Library. It was always a meeting point for my friends and I.
What to do for fun Take classes that interest you like art, sports, or photography. Get involved with events or clubs.
Food and Dining The 'chicken caesar salad' is a must. If you haven't tried it, definitely try to get that next time you head to the cafeteria. The chicken nuggets are also very delicious. The dining area is big, with a couple of TV's and lots of tables and chairs. Sometimes they'll play the soccer game or baseball games and everyone in the cafeteria will be cheering or booing for their team. Occasionally, there will be students playing the piano that's next to one of the doors that lead out to the library.
Academic Rigor The teachers here are really helpful. They push you and want you to do well in the class. For Psychology, I recommend Philip E. Boissiere. He makes all his psychology classes fun and some how makes the material easy to learn. For PE classes, I would recommend Yoga or any sport you're interested or have played in high school. I found Yoga very relaxing and I would suggest either taking it before your day starts.
Tips for prospective students For future students, I would recommend (for the first week) coming to class 10-30 minutes before class starts. There is always trouble when finding parking because nobody knows where their classes are and where to park. The spaces are a bit tight, but I found out that people park better in Parking Lot C, especially in the garage. When it rains, make sure to bring an umbrella because there aren't many shelters to help you when you're walking to class. Selling your books is easier in the beginning of every quarter. Post your ad near the classroom or inside the classroom, in bathrooms, cafeteria, anywhere that has foot traffic. Try selling it to students before going over to the book stores. The book store across the street near Jamba Juice usually sells their books cheaper than the De Anza book store. Plus they have this black dog there that is really cute that just walks around. For counselor appointments, don't go in the beginning of the quarter. That's when everybody is trying to talk to them. I would try to make an appointment or do a walk in at random times. For example, if your class gets cancelled or you have a free day, go during that time because not a lot of people will be there due to the fact that they will be in other classes.
In three sentences De Anza has the best cafeteria! Teachers actually want to help and shape them into better students. Everyone there is super friendly.

Categories Comments Campus Safety De Anza is a safe campus. There are thousands of students on De Anza's open campus, though, so if you leave unattended items they may be stolen. Overall, the people you meet at De Anza are friendly, and there are few problems on campus and in the parking lots--even at night.
Clubs and Activities There are several clubs on campus for students to express their cultural and religious beliefs, or share a common interest such in the break dance club or psychology club. Each quarter there is a club day so new students can join the clubs.
Bang for the buck The prices for De Anza are going up every quarter, and it's becoming harder to get into classes. For students that need financial aide, though, FAFSA and other scholarships provide help to thousands of students every quarter. As for getting into classes, you just have to be prepared to sign up for classes as soon as your registration is open.
What to do for fun There are several musical performances held in the Flint Center every quarter performed either by De Anza music students, or outside musicians. Also, De Anza has a free art exhibit redesigned every quarter. Besides these opportunities, students stick to their friends and studies for fun.
Food and Dining The food at De Anza is great! There's a large variety of options, and also several restaurants across from the De Anza campus. The food is a little pricey-for college students, it's a major downside to the dining experience.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on the De Anza campus, and I have personally never heard of any dorms for DA students. Most international students stay with relatives.
Academic Rigor The teachers at De Anza all have a unique style for teaching, but they are all committed to their work. Even though students prefer one teacher over another, teachers at De Anza are highly qualified and committed to their students. In order to make sure you get the teacher best for you, try to find out information about the professors before enrolling in classes.
Tips for prospective students At De Anza, students can make the most out of their time. There are many welcoming teachers and resources accessible to help students succeed; however, unless you take initiative, the opportunities can be overlooked. When you are willing to reach out of your comfort zone--by enrolling in different classes, or joining a club--you might discover a passion for a new profession or field of study.
In three sentences De Anza College is a great place for students to explore fields of studies, fulfill GE requirements, or even jump-start a second degree. There are a multitude of opportunities and resources available for students to take advantage of, such as campus clubs and access to free tutoring. De Anza is committed to seeing students succeed, and will challenge any student who is willing to work hard.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities The film club at De Anza is amazing! It is well organized and informs you well of many great film entrepreneurs, as well as plugs you in with festivals and provides resources and people who are interested in making student films and working on projects for fun. I have had a lot of fun in the club and find it very resourceful.
Bang for the buck Total bang for your buck. I'm hoping to pay for my entire year at de Anza in only 3,000 dollars and take at least 12 units per quarter. The prices are fair here, and while books are pricey there is a bookstore across the street that offers better prices, and also offers an option to rent books instead.
Food and Dining De Anza has a few really cool on campus places to eat. There is a coffee shop called Luvellos which is simply incredible, and you won't be able to go back to starbucks. Also located in the bookstore is a small store that has snacks and drinks available to students, though the prices are a bit high its very convenient.
Dorm Life I live at home.
Academic Rigor I feel like all my professors teach me well and provide me with excellent resources to both learn, and pass their class. I have no doubt that they know what they are talking about and feel excited to learn everyday.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking at De Anza, consider your major because it is a highly scientific and academic school. If you are an art major of any kind I would not recommend studying here as it does not have much to offer especially for performers. Though the film is great here.
In three sentences I feel like I get a great education at De Anza and I know it is opening up many doors for me as a student. Though it is a community college it is plugged in well with programs, advisors and professors who excel in what they know. This is a great school to kickstart your education and launch you into wherever you want to transfer.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety if pretty good. They're nice people willing to help. They also provide free hack into your car services when you locked your key in. You just have to have manual windows.
Greek Life Nonexistent. It's a junior college.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities. There's an amazing diversity.
Great for these types of students Great for not chemistry major students. The classes are too impacted and arrive systematically. If you can't take the first class in fall or spring then you have to wait till next fall or spring.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There;s nothing really unusual about the campus or any traditions.
Bang for the buck A lot of the time if you don't apply for financial aid and still need help, De Anza will give you the BOG waiver. You pay for everything except the $13/ unit. The food's a little overpriced, but good. I believe the chef is actually trained and went to school for it. They sell movie tickets 25% off the price of the theaters. De Anza also offers free bus passes for VTA.
What to do for fun There're many activities, clubs, and other social events the school plans. Laser shows are available in the planetarium. Musicians play during midday hours. They offer movie tickets for 75% of the price from the regular theater. There's a five dollar cinema right across the street.
Food and Dining I actually really like the food. The only thing is that at times it can be a little greasy and always slightly overpriced.
Dorm Life This doesn't apply to De Anza.
Academic Rigor They have very well educated professors who expect a high level of understanding.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you speak with multiple councellors before you plan your classes. There're many ways to go about taking the curses you need and one might be a better pathway for you than the others.
In three sentences The have good professors, but a bad registration process. I'd give them a C because of this. They tend to cancel classes and drop students from other classes due to glitches in the system.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never had any problems with this, even at 10 at night
Bang for the buck I've lived in California for almost 2 years and STILL can't get in state tuition. I even graduated from high school here.
Food and Dining Very expensive but open until pretty late
Dorm Life No dorm life?
Academic Rigor Haven't had any challenging classes so far, definitely go to ratemyprofessor.com because some of the teachers are CRAP
Tips for prospective students Don't take online classes, and if you don't have a car get ready for a serious commute.
In three sentences I like the campus, but it takes me 2 hours to get there without a car so I go online now. The online system is horrible, don't try it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus police are always trying new ways to boost campus safety. De Anza is a very big school with a stretched out campus, but I've always felt safe there. The campus police are always happy to escort you to car at night too.
Food and Dining Cafeteria food is always pretty interesting, but at De Anza they have tried their best to make it edible. They have recently added healthier options to their menus and also vegan and vegetarian options. There are also small cafes around campus that offer the best coffee during exams!
Dorm Life Since De Anza is a community college, there are no dorms or any other on campus housing. But it does have its own little college community around itself and most of the apartments in the area cater towards students.
Academic Rigor De Anza is both easy and hard. It really just depends on what classes you're taking and what you really want to get out of them. Most of the professors are super nice and willing to work with students, some however have turn into old grumps. I would suggest researching your professors first, to ensure a good match.
Tips for prospective students I highly recommend talking with an academic counselor and setting up a lose road map or academic plan before getting too far into your studies. It's a big school with a lot of classes to choose from and it can get overwhelming pretty fast.
In three sentences De Anza is a great school for anyone confused about life. It's a school where you can discover yourself and your dreams, while they teach you the skills necessary to achieve those dreams. And if you're not lost and confused, it's still a great pathway to use to get to where you want to go.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very safe. I gave it four stars because if you are taking a night class it can be kind of scary walking to your car alone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I've noticed this past quarter that there are a lot of half naked guys that like to hangout by the smoking area...
What to do for fun There are many welcoming clubs on campus and a lot of sports you can join.
Food and Dining Food is very tasty and delicious. Could have more healthy options but their hot sandwiches are to die for!
Dorm Life There are no dorms.
Academic Rigor Most Asian students, so if you have a hard time understanding them it will be hard in group projects.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to purchase a parking permit and if you have a bigger car it will be hard to find parking. If you are taking a night class, try to park near it because it can be scary walking to your car alone.
In three sentences Overall, great school to attend when wanting to transfer out quickly. It's hard to transfer in two years, but doable if you don't work full-time. Professors are nice and easy-going but make sure to check in with ratemyprofessor.

Dorm Life There are no dorms at De Anza.
Academic Rigor Though. You always need to keep with the class in De Anza if you want a good grade. De Anza is very different than normal semester colleges.

Academic Rigor Not too hard as long as you put in the effort and focus.
