Categories Comments Great for these types of students Dixie is great for: people who are married, people who have families, that they need to provide for financially, but still would like to receive an education, and people who just want to get generals out of the way for cheap.
Tips for prospective students If you aren't sure what you want to go into for your career or what you want for your education than Dixie's associate program will fit you. If you want to gain a Bachelors you should decide what you would like, because it is a painful process to start over.
Bang for the buck For the price Dixie State college is a good school. If you are interested in getting an Associates or a Bachelors (if they have the program), but have a family to take care of then this is definitely the school for you. Dixie State allows you to gain an education without breaking the bank.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere is wonderful at Dixie State College. The students show respect and care for one another. You are never alone at Dixie State. There is not a single class where the students do not group together as study buddies and homework groups. The best thing is that everyone is welcome and feels welcome at Dixie State. On the flip side the teachers range from thinking that they are the almighty on earth and wanting every student to succeed. Students who get a bad teacher though do not have to worry that their grade will suffer though, because other students who have had that teacher and who are having that teacher with you love to help.
Am learning a lot Dixie State is a college that has its strengths and weaknesses. Depending on what field you are going into, you can feel either immersed in knowledge or left out to dry. I now am learning quite a bit, the psychology program has finally got finalized at Dixie State. So, now, even though they don't have enough teachers for the student load, it feels as if you are accomplishing something by attending this school and participating in this program.

Bang for the buck if you are a full time student you are going to pay for the first 12 credits, so if you take 13 and up you are not going to pay for them
Am enjoying being here the weather is wonderful, so it makes it the college experience much better
Am learning a lot Classes at Dixie are just the right size for everyone to learn. Teachers know students name and are willing to help you out by giving you phone numbers to call no matter the time of day.

Am learning a lot If you take a class from Russell Gordon in Hurricane you are sure to understand the math. He is a great teacher and I'm sure many more like him are employed there.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Dixie is awesome for students who live in St. George(or near by) who don't wish to go to a costly large university and just want to stay local. This school is also great for those that wish to get into the Nursing field because of the school's amazing Nursing program. Another awesome part of the medical programs at the school is if you wish to transfer to say the University of Utah, acceptance of those students are way high, because the University of Utah knows of Dixie's excellent teaching and wish for those students to come. The list goes on and on.
Tips for prospective students For tips, make sure to go to Dixie events and other out of class activities, it is really the best way to get the best out of your college experience, you can always have fun at Dixie, you just need to put yourself out their to see it.
Bang for the buck The amazing thing about Dixie State College is for the fact of it being so cheap as a College. Tuition for a full schedule of classes, per semester is only around $ 2,000, which is quite impressive for a College, everyone has a chance here at Dixie.
Will enjoy being here If you would like a enjoyable college experience, you should come to Dixie State College, not only are the classes very well maintained, but they are made to only have around 30-40 students, to give each student the available time to speak with the professor of any questions or concerns. If you think the classes are great, you should check out, outside of the classroom. The Sporting events are spectacular and fun, everyone i have spoken to has enjoyed them thoroughly, Dixie is a great choice of study.
Will learn a lot you will learn a lot, i have sat in on classes, and was very much impressed, the professors for the most part are well rounded and know their topics. They stayed focused on what they know they need to teach and present their work very clear and concise.

Tips for prospective students Take it easy your first semester otherwise you may get overwhelmed. however here at Dixie we have many on hand counselors with whom you can talk to whenever. we also have a health and wellness center where you can get check-ups and they also have all types of counseling.
Bang for the buck Dixie has a lot to offer for being in a smaller scale town! Tuition is fair, and there is many great campus activities that come from it!
Am enjoying being here I never intended on going to college because i thought it would be just like high school. Thankfully i was wrong! Dixie State has changed my whole outlook on everything! The People are very kind and considerate, the teachers care and help you strive to do your best, and the overall environment is very relaxing and home-y. There is never a dull moment and there is something for everyone! I got involved with SHE Club and started a book club! There is endless possibilities!

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus police officers are very much so on top of things. from car accidents to tickets those officers do a great job.
Clubs and Activities there are many clubs at dixie state college, if you can think it it's probably there, and if not a student can make a club.
What to do for fun there are lots of fun activities close to campus such as; laser tagging, bowling, and even concerts. for fun activities for free one could always go play hide and go seek in town square, or take a stroll down main street.
Food and Dining the food at the college is delicious! although it has somewhat of a small cafeteria, the people that work there are very kind and helpful. on top of that, did i already say the food is really good?
Dorm Life dorm life is awesome! there are a lot of student activities that are on campus or very close to campus. there are many fun people in the dorms, and the ra's are very nice.
Academic Rigor dixie state college is becoming a very studious school. it will be hitting university status soon, and so it is adding many new degrees. while dixie used to be a two year school, it has made many new four year degrees.
Tips for prospective students make sure that you always stay on top of your homework. if a professor tells you to read the book, you should probably read it. join clubs, you will make lots of friends. make sure you pay attention in class, and make sure that you also go to class.
In three sentences dixie college really cares about their students, and really wants to help them succeed and grow. the one great quality about dixie is that students are not just another number; they actually matter. students at dixie really get the full college experience.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students great for students who are not sure what to go into yet. This is a place where students can be closer to teachers and ask questions. small classrooms provide for a more personalized curriculum
Tips for prospective students don't be afraid to get yourself involved and get out and meet new people. Be willing to let go of high school and make Dixie State College the place where you can truly grow in a college environment.
Bang for the buck worth the money put in. For the education and personal treatment from staff, it definitely is worth the tuition to come and earn a good degree from Dixie State College.
Am enjoying being here I live at home, so it makes it difficult to be involved with the campus activities. However, it is a great place to meet a diversity of students and develop as an individual.
Am learning a lot Dixie State is a smaller college. So this provides for a personal one on one student to teacher relationship not offered in larger universities. The professors are well rehearsed in their fields and more than willing to help student excel and progress in their studies. I've seen teachers have such an interest in their students and their well being. Resources are infinite and, if used correctly can unlock a large wealth of knowledge

Am learning a lot This is my first semester at Dixie and so far it has been amazing! The environment and atmosphere promote academic achievement as well as social interaction. Categories Comments Great for these types of students Dixie State college is a great stepping stone for individuals who are transitioning from high school to college, and looking for an educational experience that will meet their goals in life
Tips for prospective students One major tip is to realize why college exist, although the motion pictures depict the social aspect of college. The real reason college exist is to provide a means to an ends, by this I mean college exist to provide an avenue in order for an individual to be a successful and productive citizen within our growing economical society.
Bang for the buck You definitely get your moneys worth while attending Dixie State College, Due to the small classes sizes about 20-30 students in a setting, allows you to have a more personal relationship with your professors. This definitely comes in handy if any sort of unfortunate event occurs.
Am enjoying being here Dixie has not only given me the opportunity to further my education but has also given me the chance to meet new people and form new relationships.

What to do for fun There are a lot of out door activities like hiking, going to the lake, state parks, snowboarding, and 4 wheeling.
Food and Dining St. George has so many restaurants no one can keep them all straight. Most are within walking distance of campus.
Dorm Life I personally never lived in the dorms. Many of my friends have said great things though.
Academic Rigor Dixie can be tough especially if you don't have the self motivation to do your homework. I love all my professors though. I also have learned so much because they push us to go beyond the normal, step outside your box.

In three sentences dixie state college has great professors in the psychology department. i would give it a 5 star rating. one thing i think could change especially for students that are juniors and seniors is giving the students their portions of the student loans and grant right after they pay tuition instead of only 4 days before school starts.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i feel very safe at dixie. southern utah still has that little town feel even though it is getting bigger and bigger. the campus police are very kind and are always willing to help you any time you need it.
Greek Life there isn't really any greek life. for me, i see that as a positive thing.
Clubs and Activities there are tons of clubs and activities. i cant even list them all because there are so many, but it feels like they are always having different activities going on. for example, last week they had the date doctor come. he did love comedy. we have had hypnotist, dances and performances.
Great for these types of students great for students who are looking for a good education for a decent price. also if you are the type of person who needs individualized teaching, dixie is a wonderful place for you. the teachers want to teach you what you want to learn, and they are happy to answer any of your questions. they always have open office hours and many will schedule other times to meet with you individually.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus one thing that dixie has done over the years and has been very popular is the relay race up the mountain to paint the d. they carry a bucket of paint and run it all the way up the mountain and paint the d every year on homecoming week. another tradition is becoming a true rebel. you have to kiss some one at the pond on homecoming night.
Bang for the buck by far the best bang for your buck. dixie is one of the most inexpensive schools and in this economy that is key. you are getting a good education on a beautiful campus, warm weather, and plenty to do at a very low tuition price.
What to do for fun there is a lot of outdoor recreation here in southern utah. a lot of people go hiking, caving, swimming and to one of our two lakes. the warm weather down here makes the lakes very popular. people go boating, cliff jumping or just swimming. there are also plenty of parties, so if that is your thing you will definitely enjoy it here.
Food and Dining i would say the food is decent. i like the small intimate dinning area, which allows students to interact and get to know new people.
Dorm Life i personally never stayed in the dorms and have not heard much about them unfortunately.
Academic Rigor dixie allows any one to gain an education. there are classes which are slower pace to help those just starting school again, as well as challenging classes, which prepare students for further education or to begin their career.
Tips for prospective students never be afraid to seek out a professor for help. i have yet to meet any professor at dixie who is not willing to help in any way they can. don't over load yourself to the point where you want to quit. have good time management, set aside times for studying or homework and stick to those times.
In three sentences dixie is wonderful for several reasons beginning with small classes which allow one-one-one learning with professors. second, you get a personalized education that is affordable. last, it has amazing potential to continue to grow and adopt more majors and opportunities.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Tuition at Dixie State College is extremely low and you don't pay credit to credit. You can get 12-17 credits for a little over $1,000 if you are an in-state resident. there are also several opportunities available that are included in your tuition cost such as tutoring, writing help, and great counselors.
What to do for fun They have several activities available for every kind of person ranging from sports to study groups, to chess club. Saint George is beautiful year-round. The summers can get very hot but there are three lakes very close-by as well as a number of swimming pools. You can also hike, run, bike, rock climb, and visit Zion National Park which is very close by. There are also clubs that are geared towards those who are more into academics such as chess club, tutoring, and several other opportunities.
Food and Dining They have one cafeteria on campus that serves pretty much every type of food. they have chinese, mexican, homestyle, and classic greasy american, yum! They also have several great restaraunts off-campus.
Dorm Life While I don't live in the dorms at Dixie State College, I have taken tours of them and they are top-quality.
Academic Rigor The teachers are excellent and extremely knowledgeable about their field. Most of the professors are extremely easy to talk to if you need help and there are also other ways to help improve your grades if you need. If you put in the work you need to, you will do great at this school.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest that you take advantage of the academic advisement, tutoring center, writing center, and all the other student service opportunities avalible to students. I would also suggest that you take a tour of the campus and talk to students about their experiences at the school.
In three sentences Dixie State College has been a great school choice for me. Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During Homecoming Dixie does true rebel night. to become a true rebel at Dixie you kiss someone in the campus fountain at midnight at the end of homecoming. The student body officers give you true rebel chapstick and a true rebel card that you can brag about. It's a lot of fun!
What to do for fun The best thing about going to Dixie State College is the beautiful outdoors that surround it. I went skydiving just half an hour away from campus and there are beautiful places like Zion and Snow Canyon to rock climb, hike and bike all around and the weather is usually clear. there are always shows and concerts going on at the college and local theaters that are fun to go to.
Food and Dining The food at the campus diner is actually really good. they have everything from country homecooking to chinese to italian so there is plenty of variety. there are also a lot of restaurants and places to eat really close to campus.
Dorm Life I live at home, but my friends live on dorm and they seem really nice but don't have kitchens so you have to eat at the campus diner.
Academic Rigor I would say the academic rigor is about 3 and 1/2 stars. I learn a lot in class, but there usually isn't that much homework. most of your grade is based on test scores which aren't too bad; just study what you learn in class.
Tips for prospective students I've found that if you seek a professor outside of class for extra help they are always very willing to help with anything you need. I would check ratemyprofessor.com or ask other students before signing up for classes. With college growing so fast, they are hiring teachers with little experience who don't really care about their job. There are a lot of awesome teachers, just make sure to do a little research to ensure you get the best.
In three sentences Dixie State College is fast growing college that is constantly striving to improve campus environment and classroom quality. The learning atmosphere is focused on each individual. There is also a lot of on-campus activities which helps bring the student body closer together.

Dorm Life Dorm life was perfect for the first semester. After that it becomes more of a nuisance than a Necessity. It becomes a miniature high-school, being that everyone knows everyone, after awhile of course, and drama does start.
Tips for prospective students stay on task. Don't let friends and extra-curricular activities get in the way of your education. since Dixie is located in a small town where everything shuts down at approximately 8pm, there will be a lot of hanging out, partying, and other things that will be the cause of many distractions. Categories Comments Clubs and Activities From what I have seen, the clubs and activities are set up pretty well. One of my professors is a club advisor, and he is proactive with getting students involved in his club. Another one of my professors is in charge of the forums being held at Dixie, and he puts a lot of effort into getting speakers and setting up times, so activities on campus are given though and work.
What to do for fun St. George has very nice weather, so you can always be outdoors. There are places where you can go hiking. Dixie is located near St. George Boulevard which has several different restaurants to choose from, so you will never not have somewhere to eat. There are also a few movie theaters around Dixie, so you can see a flick.
Food and Dining The food is surprisingly great. Again, consider buying a meal plan so you are not repeatedly buying stuff from a la carte or the shop.
Dorm Life Dorm life is chill. Easy to have group meetings and study sessions.
Academic Rigor It is pretty laid back here, but teachers do give out notifications so you are not failing class. It just depends on what classes you are planning to take and how many during the semester.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus. It is much easier to get around if you live on campus. Also, take advantage of the meal plans because repeatedly going to the a la carte adds up. Do not forget to buy a parking permit. The campus is not that big, but it is big enough to where you need to be able to make it to your classes on time and use your car sometimes.

Dorm Life I have friends who live on campus or nearby, the only common complaint? They want washers and dryers!
Academic Rigor The teachers push you to be better and to ensure you know what you're learning, not just regurgitating what they said. Fun classes and I have learned so much.
Tips for prospective students Bring sunblock and lots of shorts! Be ready to learn and meet new people.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck DSC is currently one of the cheapest (not in a bad way) colleges in Utah. Although that is offset by living in a high Cost-of-living area.
What to do for fun The town around St. George has a ton of activities for people into sports, but very little for party people and clubbers
Food and Dining They are expensive and bland. Only eat there as a last resort or you have to have a meal plan.
Dorm Life Live off campus if you drink, smoke, or have a girlfriend/boyfriend. DSC has very strict dorm rules that complicate any of the above factors.
Academic Rigor The classes at DSC are hard; however, classes are small, so you get extra help when you need it for professors.
Tips for prospective students Do not procrastinate with FAFSA or any admissions applications, DSC classes are great, the admissions are not so much. Also, the food vendors at DSC are a rip-off, either drive to another food joint or walk elsewhere.
In three sentences The great thing about DSC is that the classes are usually small and the teachers know your name. The bad thing about DSC is that it is in southern Utah and it gets extremely hot, as in over 100 degree hot.
