Great for these types of students

Dixie is great for: people who are married, people who have families, that they need to provide for financially, but still would like to receive an education, and people who just want to get generals out of the way for cheap.

    Tips for prospective students

If you aren't sure what you want to go into for your career or what you want for your education than Dixie's associate program will fit you. If you want to gain a Bachelors you should decide what you would like, because it is a painful process to start over.

    Bang for the buck

For the price Dixie State college is a good school. If you are interested in getting an Associates or a Bachelors (if they have the program), but have a family to take care of then this is definitely the school for you. Dixie State allows you to gain an education without breaking the bank.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is wonderful at Dixie State College. The students show respect and care for one another. You are never alone at Dixie State. There is not a single class where the students do not group together as study buddies and homework groups. The best thing is that everyone is welcome and feels welcome at Dixie State. On the flip side the teachers range from thinking that they are the almighty on earth and wanting every student to succeed. Students who get a bad teacher though do not have to worry that their grade will suffer though, because other students who have had that teacher and who are having that teacher with you love to help.

    Am learning a lot

Dixie State is a college that has its strengths and weaknesses. Depending on what field you are going into, you can feel either immersed in knowledge or left out to dry. I now am learning quite a bit, the psychology program has finally got finalized at Dixie State. So, now, even though they don't have enough teachers for the student load, it feels as if you are accomplishing something by attending this school and participating in this program.

Great for these types of students

Dixie is awesome for students who live in St. George(or near by) who don't wish to go to a costly large university and just want to stay local. This school is also great for those that wish to get into the Nursing field because of the school's amazing Nursing program. Another awesome part of the medical programs at the school is if you wish to transfer to say the University of Utah, acceptance of those students are way high, because the University of Utah knows of Dixie's excellent teaching and wish for those students to come. The list goes on and on.

    Tips for prospective students

For tips, make sure to go to Dixie events and other out of class activities, it is really the best way to get the best out of your college experience, you can always have fun at Dixie, you just need to put yourself out their to see it.

    Bang for the buck

The amazing thing about Dixie State College is for the fact of it being so cheap as a College. Tuition for a full schedule of classes, per semester is only around $ 2,000, which is quite impressive for a College, everyone has a chance here at Dixie.

    Will enjoy being here

If you would like a enjoyable college experience, you should come to Dixie State College, not only are the classes very well maintained, but they are made to only have around 30-40 students, to give each student the available time to speak with the professor of any questions or concerns. If you think the classes are great, you should check out, outside of the classroom. The Sporting events are spectacular and fun, everyone i have spoken to has enjoyed them thoroughly, Dixie is a great choice of study.

    Will learn a lot

you will learn a lot, i have sat in on classes, and was very much impressed, the professors for the most part are well rounded and know their topics. They stayed focused on what they know they need to teach and present their work very clear and concise.

    Campus Safety

the campus police officers are very much so on top of things. from car accidents to tickets those officers do a great job.

    Clubs and Activities

there are many clubs at dixie state college, if you can think it it's probably there, and if not a student can make a club.

    What to do for fun

there are lots of fun activities close to campus such as; laser tagging, bowling, and even concerts. for fun activities for free one could always go play hide and go seek in town square, or take a stroll down main street.

    Food and Dining

the food at the college is delicious! although it has somewhat of a small cafeteria, the people that work there are very kind and helpful. on top of that, did i already say the food is really good?

    Dorm Life

dorm life is awesome! there are a lot of student activities that are on campus or very close to campus. there are many fun people in the dorms, and the ra's are very nice.

    Academic Rigor

dixie state college is becoming a very studious school. it will be hitting university status soon, and so it is adding many new degrees. while dixie used to be a two year school, it has made many new four year degrees.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure that you always stay on top of your homework. if a professor tells you to read the book, you should probably read it. join clubs, you will make lots of friends. make sure you pay attention in class, and make sure that you also go to class.

    In three sentences

dixie college really cares about their students, and really wants to help them succeed and grow. the one great quality about dixie is that students are not just another number; they actually matter. students at dixie really get the full college experience.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition at Dixie State College is extremely low and you don't pay credit to credit. You can get 12-17 credits for a little over $1,000 if you are an in-state resident. there are also several opportunities available that are included in your tuition cost such as tutoring, writing help, and great counselors.

    What to do for fun

They have several activities available for every kind of person ranging from sports to study groups, to chess club. Saint George is beautiful year-round. The summers can get very hot but there are three lakes very close-by as well as a number of swimming pools. You can also hike, run, bike, rock climb, and visit Zion National Park which is very close by. There are also clubs that are geared towards those who are more into academics such as chess club, tutoring, and several other opportunities.

    Food and Dining

They have one cafeteria on campus that serves pretty much every type of food. they have chinese, mexican, homestyle, and classic greasy american, yum! They also have several great restaraunts off-campus.

    Dorm Life

While I don't live in the dorms at Dixie State College, I have taken tours of them and they are top-quality.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are excellent and extremely knowledgeable about their field. Most of the professors are extremely easy to talk to if you need help and there are also other ways to help improve your grades if you need. If you put in the work you need to, you will do great at this school.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest that you take advantage of the academic advisement, tutoring center, writing center, and all the other student service opportunities avalible to students. I would also suggest that you take a tour of the campus and talk to students about their experiences at the school.

    In three sentences

Dixie State College has been a great school choice for me. I am taking classes at this college while still attending high school and they have been extremely supportive and considerate of my complicated schedule. The teachers are also great and there are fantastic clubs and student service opportunities.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

During Homecoming Dixie does true rebel night. to become a true rebel at Dixie you kiss someone in the campus fountain at midnight at the end of homecoming. The student body officers give you true rebel chapstick and a true rebel card that you can brag about. It's a lot of fun!

    What to do for fun

The best thing about going to Dixie State College is the beautiful outdoors that surround it. I went skydiving just half an hour away from campus and there are beautiful places like Zion and Snow Canyon to rock climb, hike and bike all around and the weather is usually clear. there are always shows and concerts going on at the college and local theaters that are fun to go to.

    Food and Dining

The food at the campus diner is actually really good. they have everything from country homecooking to chinese to italian so there is plenty of variety. there are also a lot of restaurants and places to eat really close to campus.

    Dorm Life

I live at home, but my friends live on dorm and they seem really nice but don't have kitchens so you have to eat at the campus diner.

    Academic Rigor

I would say the academic rigor is about 3 and 1/2 stars. I learn a lot in class, but there usually isn't that much homework. most of your grade is based on test scores which aren't too bad; just study what you learn in class.

    Tips for prospective students

I've found that if you seek a professor outside of class for extra help they are always very willing to help with anything you need. I would check ratemyprofessor.com or ask other students before signing up for classes. With college growing so fast, they are hiring teachers with little experience who don't really care about their job. There are a lot of awesome teachers, just make sure to do a little research to ensure you get the best.

    In three sentences

Dixie State College is fast growing college that is constantly striving to improve campus environment and classroom quality. The learning atmosphere is focused on each individual. There is also a lot of on-campus activities which helps bring the student body closer together.

worth the money put in. For the education and personal treatment from staff, it definitely is worth the tuition to come and earn a good degree from Dixie State College.

I live at home, so it makes it difficult to be involved with the campus activities. However, it is a great place to meet a diversity of students and develop as an individual.

    Am learning a lot

Dixie State is a smaller college. So this provides for a personal one on one student to teacher relationship not offered in larger universities. The professors are well rehearsed in their fields and more than willing to help student excel and progress in their studies. I've seen teachers have such an interest in their students and their well being. Resources are infinite and, if used correctly can unlock a large wealth of knowledge

From what I have seen, the clubs and activities are set up pretty well. One of my professors is a club advisor, and he is proactive with getting students involved in his club. Another one of my professors is in charge of the forums being held at Dixie, and he puts a lot of effort into getting speakers and setting up times, so activities on campus are given though and work.

St. George has very nice weather, so you can always be outdoors. There are places where you can go hiking. Dixie is located near St. George Boulevard which has several different restaurants to choose from, so you will never not have somewhere to eat. There are also a few movie theaters around Dixie, so you can see a flick.

There are many classes offered online which is awesome! I was able to really diversify between going to class and taking some online which makes for a great schedule. Being one of the more affordable colleges in the nation helps too.

    What to do for fun

Go bowling, grab an ice cream from Iceberg, or go to Smashburger or Five Guys! It's all a ton of fun, and you can't forget checking out all the unique red rock on a hike.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

The teachers push you to be better and to ensure you know what you're learning, not just regurgitating what they said. Fun classes and I have learned so much.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring sunblock and lots of shorts! Be ready to learn and meet new people.

    In three sentences

Dixie is a great school. If you are involved and participate in school functions, it will feel just like home. In a small town like St. George, we have to make our own fun, and we sure do!

    Bang for the buck

DSC is currently one of the cheapest (not in a bad way) colleges in Utah. Although that is offset by living in a high Cost-of-living area.

    What to do for fun

The town around St. George has a ton of activities for people into sports, but very little for party people and clubbers

    Food and Dining

They are expensive and bland. Only eat there as a last resort or you have to have a meal plan.

    Dorm Life

Live off campus if you drink, smoke, or have a girlfriend/boyfriend. DSC has very strict dorm rules that complicate any of the above factors.

    Academic Rigor

The classes at DSC are hard; however, classes are small, so you get extra help when you need it for professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not procrastinate with FAFSA or any admissions applications, DSC classes are great, the admissions are not so much. Also, the food vendors at DSC are a rip-off, either drive to another food joint or walk elsewhere.

    In three sentences

The great thing about DSC is that the classes are usually small and the teachers know your name. The bad thing about DSC is that it is in southern Utah and it gets extremely hot, as in over 100 degree hot. Dixie State College is a great place for students that did not do so well in high school or are returning students.

    Food and Dining

Taco Bell is all I need ;)

    Bang for the buck

It's one of the cheapest colleges in the nation and the bang you get for the buck is amazing. I would definitely give it an A+ in that category. It's phenomenal.

    What to do for fun

St. George is a perfect college location because there's so many amazing outdoor activities and the weather is amazing. Go rock climbing, wakeboarding, hiking, biking, longboarding, play volleyball, etc... Have fun!

    Food and Dining

I really liked food at the grill. They force you to have a meal plan if you're staying in the dorms so that's kind of annoying for some people who would like to cook by themselves and didn't have the money for the meal plan but I really liked it because I suck at cooking... Hahaha

    Dorm Life

They were really cheap but they haven't been updated within the past 10 years and were pretty small. You get what you pay for I suppose. I really liked how close you were to all your neighbors and friends though. They had cool and not over-bearing rules too with fun activities always planned and going on.

    Academic Rigor

They were't extremely difficult, they had great teachers, a great support system for your studies, but didn't have the huge selection of classes, majors, and whatnot as maybe a big university would have. Overall, I would give their Academic Rigor a B+.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs, go to games, GET INVOLVED! Do as much as you can to make your student experience the best that it possibly can be. It's a friendly and social campus so make the most of it.

St. George is a very beautiful and cheap city to live in. There is so much fun free stuff to do. Add this to the fact that Dixie has one of the lowest tuition in the state and you have a great bang for your buck.

    What to do for fun

Whether you like basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, Frisbee, golf, or more unconventional sports like hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, repelling, skim boarding, or cliff jumping, Dixie literally has it all in very close proximity.

    Academic Rigor

Dixie has very small class sizes which really helps you connect with each teacher individually. This will help you and them figure out the best way to teach you the material and make sure you are really grasping the concepts that will make you successful in the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

The city as a whole is pretty safe when you compare it to other places. There have been a few instances of rape and breaking into the dorms, but for the most part the campus is safe.

    Greek Life

There is no greek life here. The administration refuses to allow there to be a greek life because they are afraid of the party school status they might gain. In fact, there are no student run organizations at all on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs here don't make enough of an effort to make a big impression. They hold a few meetings in the beginning but as the semester goes on everyone gets lazy and the club kind of disintegrates from there. If there is strong leadership the clubs are better, but mostly the students aren't dedicated enough to make it happen.

Great for these types of students

This college is the best for freshman who are adventurous and active, outdoorsy types. It's really laid back but you need to be really outgoing if you want to make friends because people are friendly here but they don't usually try befriending others who don't speak to them first.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Dixie Rock is this really cool rocky hiking area a little ways off of campus. It is kind of considered the 'make-out' spot of the city. It's a fun place to hike around and is friendly to those who aren't the best of hikers. A lot of people like to just go hang out up there and talk.

    Bang for the buck

It is a very cheap place to go to school. The area is a really good place for people just starting out on their own because it really doesn't cost a lot to live here if you are smart with your money.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do in the area if you love being outside. The weather is always great, although it gets REALLY hot in the summer (about 115 degrees all through July). A bunch of national parks are really close by, a few reservoirs and the scenery is really breathtaking. However, the town is pretty conservative so if you are looking to party a lot or anything like in a bigger city, you are not going to find any of that sort of thing here unless drive to Las Vegas (about 1.5 hour drive).

    Food and Dining

I don't eat on campus very often because it can be a little expensive, unless you have the food package. There are several fast food joints, restaurants, and cafes close by so I have found it to be cheaper, and in some cases better quality, to just leave campus to get food.

    Dorm Life

I wouldn't know about the dorm life because I live at home, but a few friends of mine have said that they preferred living on off campus apartments (there are many apartments available literally across the street from campus) as opposed to the dorms. I've been inside the dorms and they are really small with no kitchens and it can get pretty rowdy on the weekends. If you can afford it, I would suggest the apartments because you have a lot more to choose from and there are a ton of places available that are just a two minute walk from the nearest building on campus.

    Academic Rigor

I will not lie, the academics here are a lot like high school courses. Of course, there are a few exceptions with the upper division courses, but mostly I have not encountered any classes where I was not able to get through it. As long as you make a decent effort and work with your professors when you come across a problem, you shouldn't have too much trouble passing through your Associate degree, or possibly even Bachelors (depending on your area of study), with relative ease.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip to prospective students is to plan ahead when it comes to what professors you would like to take courses from so that you know exactly what sign up for when registration opens. I have not had a single professor that I have disliked and have learned a lot from them, but I looked up their names on ratemyprofessor.com before I registered for any of their courses. Look up their names and see what other students are saying about them first!

    In three sentences

This is a great college if you are an outdoorsy kind of person! Very friendly administration and faculty, decent resources available, and a great place for someone who is just starting out on their own. However, the campus is not very diverse and holds mildly strict standards so if you are looking for more excitement around town or campus, you are not likely to find it here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities! If you like something, there is a club for it!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The only unusual tradition I know of is True Rebel Night. It's where after the Dixie spirit week at midnight on the last day you take someone into the fountain and kiss them-- you are now a true rebel!

    What to do for fun

St. George has so many places to have fun, even without spending much! There is a lake and a reservoir where you can go wake boarding. The school plans so many activities that you can keep yourself busy with throughout each week.

    Food and Dining

The food is great! I wouldn't want to live off of only this food, but I could if I needed to.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms, but I have heard that they are an okay place to live. There are many apartments around the school that are great to live at off campus.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers will challenge you to where you actually have to study, especially in the higher classes, but then other classes that are more general they are pretty easy to get through as long as you participate and pay attention to class.

    Tips for prospective students

Attend class! Join a club! There are so many opportunities to go out and have fun, take them!

    In three sentences

Dixie has activities almost every week that keep you interested and having fun while you're going to college. They have resources that are available to you when you need them and are very efficient places. The campus is also beautiful and I absolutely enjoy learning in this environment.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs, don't be shy and get to know many groups of people!

    In three sentences

Dixie is a great college for students from Utah as it stands for what a lot of Utah residents believe in. Yet as far as branching out and experiencing different cultures, Dixie doesn't exactly go above and beyond in that department.

    What to do for fun

Dixie is perfectly located good all types of activities. There are many outdoors things to do, and the school provides cheap rental equipment for those who are interested.

    Food and Dining

There are mad b by choices for students to choose from. It is rather exciting to begin with, but eventually gets quite boring after a couple months of it. The staff is friendly and it is clean.

    Dorm Life

The rooms are conveniently located by campus. It is a big enough room to be able to study and close to other people. You are able to make friends rather quickly. You will also be faced with difficult situations when sharing the room, but you are open to learning life lessons as well.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are excellent. Class sizes are small enough to have a one to one learning opportunity when it it's needed.

    Tips for prospective students

Although there are many things to do, don't fall behind in class. The most important thing is to be able to prioritize the things in your life. At the same time, you have to have some fun once in a while.

    What to do for fun

Outdoors activities are huge down here! If you like hiking and camping then St. George is definitely a viable option for you. There are also fun activities around campus every now and then, and sporting events are always a good time as well.

    Dorm Life

I stay in an off campus apartment and LOVE it.

    Academic Rigor

Classes aren't too hard if you are active in what is going on. If you stay focused and work, it is not difficult to succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Come ready to work hard, and be responsible. It is easy in college to feel like you have more time to complete things than you actually do, so stay focused.

    In three sentences

Dixie State University is a smaller scale school that I believe is best suited for students looking for a more personal learning experience. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate Dixie a 7 for that reason. I like having small class sizes, but sometimes it feels like I am back in high school.

    Campus Safety

Because this is a state that respects God and His teachings, there is not much of, well, any bad events happening. I can only remember there being one break-in, and they caught the guy immediately, expelled him on the spot, and made him pay for all the damages. These guys do NOT play around. If they think you're doing something illegal or bad, change your ways quick.

    Greek Life

So far, I have not noticed any Greek activities or clubs going on. This university is not like that; it has morals.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a good number of clubs that fit just about anyone and places, like the Rec Center and Concert Halls, that will interest even the most bored individual. It seems that every week at least 4 or 5 different clubs come together and do their own themes and activities, like the Science Club with liquid nitrogen ice cream (yum) and the Wednes-D activities.

Great for these types of students

    Religious Easily Bored Math/English Majors

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It seems to be just a regular college.

    Food and Dining

Phenomenal food. The grilled cheese and bacon burgers are delicious. Their desserts are top notch as well, especially the cheesecake. If greasy deliciousness is not really your thing, then their deli is awesome as well. Fresh meats and cheeses and breads. Their customer service aspect is really well done; they treat their customers with respect and sincerity.

    Dorm Life

The roommate and suite mates are nicely-mannered. They hardly ever are too loud. They are focused on school as well as having fun. Additionally, a lot of activities go on around the Nisson Towers, some that are just complete fun. The only downside I can truly point out is that the other towers can be a little too noisy, but when you have a bunch of College students living under one roof, when WON'T there be a little noise?

    Academic Rigor

While Dixie State has a few issues with its registration and scheduling, it still does well with the slightly limited funding it has. The greenhouse and desert garden in the center of the Science plaza is amazing for a Biology Major like me. Additionally, they are very keen on students going for 15 credits per semester. One of the few downsides to all of this is that sometimes the classes one wants is put off by the classes one needs to graduate. For me, Psychology is completely out of my focus, but I know I need to do it for my graduation to Trade School. Not bad, Dixie; not bad.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have somewhat of an idea for a Major. Too many people and even a couple of close friends have no clue for a Major and end up taking a whole bunch of classes that will not truly help them or make them happy. Have something of a plan: saves you time and money...and a bit of hair pulling.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of different clubs you can join and activities like outdoor sports, drama, dance. Anything you're into. And the location is great, weather is beautiful all year round, so you can go hiking or bike riding.

    Food and Dining

There's a nice dining room and a snack shop in the student center. They also have awesome meal plan deals.

    Dorm Life

There are not many on campus housing options, but pricing is reasonable and they are well kept.

    Academic Rigor

It's not the most competitive school out there and if you work hard, you can easily get good grades. Do your work well and the teachers will love you. It's nice to be a big fish in a small pond sometimes.

    Tips for prospective students

Turn in your assignments on time, this isn't high school anymore. It's a small campus, so enjoy short walking distances between classes. Join in, have fun!

    In three sentences

This is a wonderful school. The teachers are helpful and friendly. There are more and more degree options being added every year; great opportunity.
