Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who actually want an education and are not just looking for a good time and a partying school. ESU is great also for students with a chill and low key personality. For a person looking for a homey feel ESU is the place to be.
Tips for prospective students Look for financial aid early on so you're prepared and have a greater chance at it. Be organized through your class selections and class work. Leave everything you thought of college behind because a lot of the times it's so much more different than you expected. Don't listen to people, go out there and find what you love.
Bang for the buck Especially being an in state student it helps a lot. With two loans and one scholarship I'm all set. The only problem is books, just wish they were easier for my education major.
Am enjoying being here I love the environment, of course there are other things I'd love to be doing like traveling, but I'm only a freshman. I know as I continue to be a part of this school I'll fall in love with many other things.
Am learning a lot I see it through my french and the french cinema class I took. Everytime I watch a movie I notice things I never would have noticed before this class. And I can't wait for my Spring Semester classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students ESU is perfect for students who.. - enjoy small classroom environments -small campus environment - do not mind cold wheather - wants to gain a relationship with their professor - wants to meet new people and make friends - who is really serious about learning and wants to be something in life
Tips for prospective students East Stroudsburg is very nice school, I have been here for two years and I plan on recieving my degree from this school. I have made so many friends and I am glad I did. I would recommend going on www.esu.edu and planning a campus tour to get to see first hand how the campus is. If you decide to attend ESU you will not regret it.
Bang for the buck The school is affordable. East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is under a state system which means the state funds most of the school so that students do not have to go out of pocket as much as a student who goes to a private owned college.
Am enjoying being here The campus is small but it is very nice. The students are very friendly and theres always a daily activity to help others interact with each other and make friends. The are also numerous organizations, clubs, and sorrorities/ferternities to join that are welcoming and can also enhance your involvement with the school as well as students. The veiw of the mountians are so beautiful. The school is currently having plans of new devolopement to enhance the beauty of the campus. The classrooms are small as well which is a good thing so that the student can build a relationship with their professor rather than a big college where the amount of students in the classroom is approximately 100 or more. With a high amount of students in a classroom the chances of the professor evem remembering your name is slim to none.
Am learning a lot The professors take very different and interesting approaches to ensure that their students have an understanding of what they are learning. For example, in my general psychology class my professor did different fun activities to get the class involved. Although the activities were fun it also gave the students a learning experience. Every activitiy was an example of the material we were learning. As of today I remember everything I have learned in that class and I took it last year.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is so much to do on ESU's campus. From football, basketball, field hockey, to racquetball, lacrosse, and wiffleball. Did I mention that those are just sports! ESU has a great greek life and many student employment opportunities such as student ambassadors.
Food and Dining Six or Seven options of food throughout the day allows for a good dining experience. All food will get tiring if you eat it enough but ESU's cafe allows you to not have to eat the same items as much.
Dorm Life Dorm life here is awesome! ESU is currently undergoing construction to its campus but the new suite/apartment style rooms are great. They allow you to have privacy within the schools campus. A MUST SEE!
Academic Rigor From what I have heard and seen trough my brother, academics are not too easy or too hard. They were just right for him and allowed him to easily transition from high school to college. Hopefully the same applies to em when I begin this fall.
Tips for prospective students Focus in on your school work. ESU is a school with a lot of diversity and it is easy to forget that you are attending college as an adult. Do not get involved with a select few people. Remember to always network with different people because diversity allows you to think outside the box.
In three sentences East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is an extremely diverse campus with a comfortable feel. Classes sizes are perfect and allow you to feel equated with your instructor. Also, ESU is a campus that is growing and constantly undergoing changes which allows the students to adjust with the campus around them.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Nursing students, Physical Education majors, Sports Management, English students, etc. Theatre program is small but close knit. Media Communications is the same--could use more funding but you can still get a lot out of it.
Tips for prospective students Like I said above, you get out what you put in. Don't spend all your time on the fun stuff (ahem, partying). If an education is what you want, you'll need to work at it.
Bang for the buck There are a great number of special events to attend, such as independent musicians and concerts for big name bands and comedians. Plenty of clubs to join (in fact, not enough time to join all the ones you might want to be a part of). ESU certainly has a lot of potential to get bigger and better.
Did enjoy being here It was a friendly atmosphere as a somewhat small college campus. Students in certain programs were close, sometimes like family working together in the same computer lab.
Did learn a lot I'm a very big believer that you get out of something what you put it. An education, and the school in which that takes place, is no exception. Taking varied classes, going outside the box, can certainly help you learn a lot more than you'd expect.

Clubs and Activities I am a prospect for becoming president of the universities physics club. I'm happy with most all of the clubs on campus. The clubs usually sponsor activities around campus.
Great for these types of students Students who want to become better and eventually move to a larger school for education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There isn't anything really spectacular about East Stroudsburg.
Bang for the buck This school is worth every penny. I pay for tuition only it has helped me get a great education without the huge costs.
What to do for fun The recreational center is one of the main attractions on campus. Students come here to get all their stress out to become healthier individuals.
Food and Dining I don't eat on campus.
Dorm Life I don't live on campus.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult. If you keep on top of the material, then the classes shouldn't be too difficult.
Tips for prospective students Be ready to work hard and keep on top of your work. Should also check into enrollment services once in awhile to make sure you don't have any dues.
In three sentences East Stroudsburg University is local school which has many programs to help you advance to a larger school. Its a great building block school, which can help many students exceed to their full potential. The faculty and staff are excellent.

Academic Rigor The classes are not the easiest but there are oppertunites for you to get tutors and talk to your professors.

Food and Dining i do not buy food from esu, but they definitely have quite the variety of food, and they are enjoyable as well.
Dorm Life i do not dorm on campus, but from my friends they actually quite enjoy the dorm experience. also, esu has 3 new apartment building right on campus!

Categories Comments Campus Safety safety is their number one priority here! with buses that take you all around campus, and the police station which is also located right here on campus. you should never have to feel like your in danger!
Greek Life i don't know much about the greek system. but i have heard that it is great!
Clubs and Activities the clubs are great here, the more the merrier! you can really develop your own group of friends through clubs.
Great for these types of students anybody!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus by the time you leave esu, one of the many things you might to want to have participated in, is the homecoming game. this tradition seems to bring everybody on campus together again!
Bang for the buck pretty much everything here can go on your e-card. so no need to worry about carrying money around with you all the time.
What to do for fun with everything so close, you're only a bus ride away from fun! if you want to stay on campus, there's the rec center, or you can go to the union, sit and have a coffee with friends.
Food and Dining the food is not too bad here! if your short on time, i would recommend going to the union. if not, go ahead down with a group of friends to the cafe. the food is really good and there such a variety to them too!
Dorm Life living in the dorms is great! you get to meet so many new people, and hopefully your roommate will turn out to be the best. don't hesitate on the first few days to walk up and say hi to your neighbors. that's how you meet you people, and you will soon realize how easy it is to make friends!

Categories Comments What to do for fun I go to the recreation center most days I am at school and workout. There are a variety of things to do there along with other services such as yoga, palates, etc. The campus also offers a lot of other things to do like concerts, plays, musicals, and more.
Academic Rigor The academics are difficult and rigorous, but not unbearable. As long as you keep a positive thought train, things fall into place. Professors are also available very often to help students go over information from class that may not have been fully understood and offer as much as they can to help each student to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Jump in and get involved. There is a lot to do at college and you should get as involved as possible while maintaining a scholarly equilibrium. Also, don't procrastinate; you are going to college to become something you want to do and learning as much as you can about it is the best thing to do. Stay interested and love your major.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The area is well policed, and has hundreds of emergency call boxes all over the campus. Police escort services are free and always available if needed, and buildings are well maintained against fire and other hazards. Overall the school is very safe on any day, at any hour, with great police protection.
Clubs and Activities Clubs are beyond awesome. Meet friends with the same interest, go to events. Many do Free trips, movies, and have profession seminars and guest speakers on any topic imaginable. If you don't see anything that fits you, you can start your own club very easily, and clubs that last for a whole semester, can get money from the school to continue with events and help fund raisers.
Great for these types of students Its really a great school for anyone: Science students have some of the campus' most advanced tools at their use, and typically get special access to different parts of the school for research. Art Students have an amazing staff of professors and a ton of international opportunities, including studying in China, at Shanghai University. and hundreds of Clubs programs, including student radio, means anyone can find something to do and some awesome friends to do it with.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Just general college craziness, bring your skateboard if you got one and you will be all set for the adventure.
Bang for the buck In state tuition is great, 8,678 for the year , and living expenses are pretty average, there's lots of free events to go to all year, and a great recreation center. Its a great place, and if your already in PA, its an awesome deal.
What to do for fun Lots of Chances to go to New York City on day trips funded by different clubs. Chinese Club does a lot of random trips to China Town in both Philadelphia, and New York feel free to stay with the group or explore on your own. There are also lots of local bands, two large movie theaters, and again the great outdoors; Skiing, rafting, hiking, biking, ATV, mountain climbing, and much much more.
Food and Dining low variety is a major complaint, there are lots of places around in the area; burritos, Thai food, pizza, Five Guys, and of course the Walmart, but none of these are included in your meal plan. The cafeteria will quickly lose its charm as a place to eat, after you have eaten the same four things for 6 months.
Dorm Life Your roommates are going to be are going to be pretty cool. the actual campus is currently renovating its dorms. Laurel hall dorms are great, you are literally right next to the main classrooms, the buildings are almost touching. Some of the Dorms are not as convent and are a bit antiquated. Many of the Dorms were build't in 1976 and can get cold on the lower floors especially, but construction on three new buildings have been completed since 2011 the rooms are warm, modern and include a kitchen area.
Academic Rigor Classes are challenging, and many teachers pride themselves on high standards. At the same time, your teachers will layout the exact way you can pass the class. The most important part of your success once you are in classes is self discipline.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the tutoring center, its free tutoring in virtually every class even upper level classes.
In three sentences East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania has some of the most brilliant, highly motivated, and dedicated educators on the planet; these people love what they do, and are committed to their students. In addition the surrounding area is simply beautiful, anyone into the outdoors will never feel bored. there is also a very unique local art scene. This is a great place to learn, and experience life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is fairly safe, the surrounding area is not.
Greek Life There are fraternities and sororities on campus.
Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs and things on campus.
Great for these types of students Great for teaching majors.
Bang for the buck Buy your textbooks offline and not form the school. You can sell them back for more online and you will pay a third of what the bookstore will charge you. Buy used if you can. Typically if you can find the previous edition of the book it will be cheaper and will work for your class.
What to do for fun There is not tons in the immediate area surrounding the college, but there is a movie theater, and the stroud mall. Mostly my friends and I played card games and watched movies. CAB does put on some activities during the semester.
Food and Dining The food here is gross. Down side is if you life on campus you are forced to have a meal plan.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a great experience for freshman and maybe sophomores. Its a good way to meet people and get involved at school. Pretty safe and clean. Once you hit junior and senior year most people move off campus or to the university apartments.
Academic Rigor The classes are not very challenging. Depending on the teacher , they can be difficult work load wise, but they don't expand your thinking process.
Tips for prospective students There is a decent party scene here if you are in greek life. Don't get caught up in it, stick to your studies. It will make your life much easier when you get to be a upper class man.
In three sentences It's a nice campus. The buildings are easy to get to. Some of the professors are uncaring though.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities GET INVOLVED.
Great for these types of students mesh between city and suburb without the rural-middle-of-nowhere feel.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Bergy, our mascot. Oddest mascot ever.
Bang for the buck It's a state school, so you get what you get.
What to do for fun tons of club sports and activities around campus both on weeknights and on the weekends.
Food and Dining The cafe has international night every Thursday. Enough said.
Dorm Life Dorm life is not going to be awesome anywhere, but ESU's was definitely doable. New suites with built in AC is the latest addition to campus, totally worth the money.
Academic Rigor I can honestly say that I have been intellectually challenged at ESU and that I have been provided with many opportunities to further my leadership experiences.
Tips for prospective students Keep on point with enrollment services, they will probably lose something of yours or miscalculate something in your time there. Live on campus if you get the chance to as well, the dorms are surprisingly very comfortable.
In three sentences As a Psychology Major, I absolutely love my professors. They are hands down some of the influential, inspirational, challenging, and compassionate professors I have come across. The Administration and new banner system could use a lot of work though!

What to do for fun Located in the Poconos there are several tourist attractions that students can visit either via taxi or bus. Fomr Camel Beach Waterpark to Shawnee Ski & Golf Resort. In addition there are bowling alleys, malls, movie theatres, and skating rinks in the area.

Academic Rigor Rigor can vary upon majors as well as professors.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are always fun activities on campus. The multicultural clubs always have events and programs that they do throughout the school year. There are field days and lots of interesting lectures to go to when you're out of class. There are movies on the quad, and they have a [Dorm] Hall Olympics. Overall, there's never a boring day at ESU!
Food and Dining The food at ESU is pretty good. They have plenty of food options at Dansbury Commons, which is the cafeteria. The hours to eat are very flexible at Dansbury. There is another food court you can eat at, in the Student Union Building. Their food is delicious and you can use your meals there as well.
Dorm Life Dorm life is interesting. There are always activities going on in the dorm halls, for the people that live in the building along with people that live in the other dorm halls. If you live in an actual dorm (not the suites), get to know your hall-mates. If you do get to live in the suites, you'll rarely see your hall-mates.
Academic Rigor Academics at ESU are challenging. The class sizes are a bit large, as the campus is increasing its size. If you want to be a student with great grades, I suggest sitting in the front of classrooms and lecture halls; professors remember your face and you feel more connected with the lesson.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to make friends! This may seem like an obvious thing to do, but college gets very lonely without friends. At school, those people who you call friends are also your family. Also, the rec center on campus is great, it has so many different rooms and spaces for different kinds of sports and games, along with a full gym. Take advantage of it!
In three sentences ESU is a fun campus, fit for learning and having the true college experience. A lot of buildings on campus are new, renovated, or in the process of being one of the two. Most professors are people you can connect to on a personal level, and the classes are interesting and go in depth.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Around here, normal is just the name of a street!
Bang for the buck ESU has the lowest tuition costs in the PASSHE system for undergrad students in-state attending a University. Along with that, the features, events and opportunities given to the students give everyone the opportunity to make more than they spend while attending.
Food and Dining There's a diverse menu of items available to students on a weekly basis. There's even a weekly international night which features food from a different culture!
Dorm Life I myself don't dorm, but from what I hear it's a good time.
Academic Rigor The course load picks up towards the beginning of the semester for specific class. As with any other academy, be prepared!
Tips for prospective students - Decide your major, minor and career path before anything else. - When looking into things, the more involved you are in your process, the more the staff will be able to assist you.
In three sentences On a scale of 1-10, ESU rates on my scale of about 8. The diverse faculty and student body actively involved with the process at the University make good things happen every semester. There is positive progress being made here and it is an honor to be a part of it.
