Great for these types of students

Students who actually want an education and are not just looking for a good time and a partying school. ESU is great also for students with a chill and low key personality. For a person looking for a homey feel ESU is the place to be.

    Tips for prospective students

Look for financial aid early on so you're prepared and have a greater chance at it. Be organized through your class selections and class work. Leave everything you thought of college behind because a lot of the times it's so much more different than you expected. Don't listen to people, go out there and find what you love.

    Bang for the buck

Especially being an in state student it helps a lot. With two loans and one scholarship I'm all set. The only problem is books, just wish they were easier for my education major.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the environment, of course there are other things I'd love to be doing like traveling, but I'm only a freshman. I know as I continue to be a part of this school I'll fall in love with many other things.

    Am learning a lot

I see it through my french and the french cinema class I took. Everytime I watch a movie I notice things I never would have noticed before this class. And I can't wait for my Spring Semester classes.

    Will enjoy being here

I can not wait for my new school home away from home! I am anxious to meet new friends. I enjoyed the 2 day orientation visit!

    Will learn a lot

I plan to work real hard at the courses for the 1st semester...I know I will learn a lot. I am so excited to manage my school life.

Great for these types of students

ESU is perfect for students who.. - enjoy small classroom environments -small campus environment - do not mind cold wheather - wants to gain a relationship with their professor - wants to meet new people and make friends - who is really serious about learning and wants to be something in life

    Tips for prospective students

East Stroudsburg is very nice school, I have been here for two years and I plan on recieving my degree from this school. I have made so many friends and I am glad I did. I would recommend going on www.esu.edu and planning a campus tour to get to see first hand how the campus is. If you decide to attend ESU you will not regret it.

    Bang for the buck

The school is affordable. East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is under a state system which means the state funds most of the school so that students do not have to go out of pocket as much as a student who goes to a private owned college.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is small but it is very nice. The students are very friendly and theres always a daily activity to help others interact with each other and make friends. The are also numerous organizations, clubs, and sorrorities/ferternities to join that are welcoming and can also enhance your involvement with the school as well as students. The veiw of the mountians are so beautiful. The school is currently having plans of new devolopement to enhance the beauty of the campus. The classrooms are small as well which is a good thing so that the student can build a relationship with their professor rather than a big college where the amount of students in the classroom is approximately 100 or more. With a high amount of students in a classroom the chances of the professor evem remembering your name is slim to none.

    Am learning a lot

The professors take very different and interesting approaches to ensure that their students have an understanding of what they are learning. For example, in my general psychology class my professor did different fun activities to get the class involved. Although the activities were fun it also gave the students a learning experience. Every activitiy was an example of the material we were learning. As of today I remember everything I have learned in that class and I took it last year.

    Clubs and Activities

    GET INVOLVED.

Great for these types of students

mesh between city and suburb without the rural-middle-of-nowhere feel.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Bergy, our mascot. Oddest mascot ever.

    Bang for the buck

It's a state school, so you get what you get.

    What to do for fun

tons of club sports and activities around campus both on weeknights and on the weekends.

    Food and Dining

The cafe has international night every Thursday. Enough said.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not going to be awesome anywhere, but ESU's was definitely doable. New suites with built in AC is the latest addition to campus, totally worth the money.

    Academic Rigor

I can honestly say that I have been intellectually challenged at ESU and that I have been provided with many opportunities to further my leadership experiences.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep on point with enrollment services, they will probably lose something of yours or miscalculate something in your time there. Live on campus if you get the chance to as well, the dorms are surprisingly very comfortable.

    In three sentences

As a Psychology Major, I absolutely love my professors. They are hands down some of the influential, inspirational, challenging, and compassionate professors I have come across. The Administration and new banner system could use a lot of work though!

    Clubs and Activities

There are several difeerent clubs and activities ranging from ethnicities, religion, sexuality, educational interests, and performing arts.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who enjoy rural and suburban life or students that come from a small town. ESU is also great for students who love nature and communities where everyone is familiar with one another.

    What to do for fun

Located in the Poconos there are several tourist attractions that students can visit either via taxi or bus. Fomr Camel Beach Waterpark to Shawnee Ski & Golf Resort. In addition there are bowling alleys, malls, movie theatres, and skating rinks in the area.

    Food and Dining

There are two places in which students can eat offering a plethora of foods. There is even Late Nite with entertainment in case students get hungry after hours!

    Dorm Life

There is plenty of variety with dorm life. Students can live in suites with 1-3 room mates or in the traditional dorms which are all well kept and within a close walk of one another.

    Academic Rigor

Rigor can vary upon majors as well as professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not be afraid to ask questions whether it is in class or during office hours. Students get out exactly what they put in so it is important to be involved to build a resume.

    In three sentences

East Stroudsburg University is a small university conveniently located in the Poconos. The small university allows for smaller classes and personal attention from professors and advisors. There are many clubs and activities to participate in which make this college very enjoyable.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do on ESU's campus. From football, basketball, field hockey, to racquetball, lacrosse, and wiffleball. Did I mention that those are just sports! ESU has a great greek life and many student employment opportunities such as student ambassadors.

    Food and Dining

Six or Seven options of food throughout the day allows for a good dining experience. All food will get tiring if you eat it enough but ESU's cafe allows you to not have to eat the same items as much.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life here is awesome! ESU is currently undergoing construction to its campus but the new suite/apartment style rooms are great. They allow you to have privacy within the schools campus. A MUST SEE!

    Academic Rigor

From what I have heard and seen trough my brother, academics are not too easy or too hard. They were just right for him and allowed him to easily transition from high school to college. Hopefully the same applies to em when I begin this fall.

    Tips for prospective students

Focus in on your school work. ESU is a school with a lot of diversity and it is easy to forget that you are attending college as an adult. Do not get involved with a select few people. Remember to always network with different people because diversity allows you to think outside the box.

    In three sentences

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is an extremely diverse campus with a comfortable feel. Classes sizes are perfect and allow you to feel equated with your instructor. Also, ESU is a campus that is growing and constantly undergoing changes which allows the students to adjust with the campus around them.

    Campus Safety

The ESU Police are always on duty, 24/7. There have been a few incidences while I have attended the university, most occurring late at night or very early in the morning. If you use common sense and practice safe lifestyle choices, most incidences are avoidable. For instance, always use the buddy-system, if you choose to drink, always go with close friends, never alone, do not drink and drive, do not park your car in a remote area, and carry pepper spray whenever needed.

    Clubs and Activities

There are several clubs and activities such as the Entrepreneurship Club, the ESU Student Senate, the Christian Fellowship club, the National Broadcasting Society, The Society of Leadership and Success, along with numerous musical and choral groups, art groups, religious groups, and volunteer opportunities.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for all populations as it is extremely supportive and encouraging of diversity. So this university is especially great for those who also enjoy diverse populations.

    Bang for the buck

One of the greatest aspects about East Stroudsburg University is that it is affordable for most budgets. It is a PASSHE University and therefore if you are a Pennsylvania resident, the rates are very reasonable. And of course, an education is not a waste of money, but a valuable investment. So money spent is well worth it and you should expect an even greater return for your money in the future.

    What to do for fun

I LOVE to exercise at the gym, here on campus! It is such a great place to meet friends to either be silly in a game of casual volleyball, or to focus on getting lean by running on the indoor track and cardio equipment. Several classes are held there as well for people who enjoy Yoga, Zumba, Aerobics, and Cycling.

    Food and Dining

I personally do not mind eating in the cafeteria. The cafeteria offers a great selection of all the food groups. It is excellent for those who are not as health conscious, as well as those who closely watch their diet. There is a giant salad bar in the center of the building with varying types of lettuce and greens, fresh vegetables, homemade salads such as cole slaw and potato, piping hot soups, an assortment of grains, and fruit and yogurt.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is safe and full of social opportunities. Each residence hall and suite has reliable safety policies and offers a wide variety of educational and social programs. Quiet hours are enforced to help sleeping and studying students, and amenities are very convenient.

    Academic Rigor

I find the classes challenging in the way that they encourage critical thinking and problem solving skills. The most difficult or challenging aspect is not necessarily balancing lecture meetings, but staying on top of homework, projects, and daily studying.

    Tips for prospective students

I would give the advice to prospective students of meeting with an advisor regularly to maintain an on-time schedule, graduation date, and curriculum of interest. I would also advise high school senior prospective students to consider entering Undeclared until taking a few basic General Education courses and meeting with the Career Development Center to better decide a program of interest.

    In three sentences

East Stroudsburg University is a wonderful place to study. It offers numerous educational majors and minors, athletic teams, and extracurricular clubs, all with diverse communities. It has an ideal location in the Poconos, centered between New York City and New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg.

Great for these types of students

Nursing students, Physical Education majors, Sports Management, English students, etc. Theatre program is small but close knit. Media Communications is the same--could use more funding but you can still get a lot out of it.

    Tips for prospective students

Like I said above, you get out what you put in. Don't spend all your time on the fun stuff (ahem, partying). If an education is what you want, you'll need to work at it.

    Bang for the buck

There are a great number of special events to attend, such as independent musicians and concerts for big name bands and comedians. Plenty of clubs to join (in fact, not enough time to join all the ones you might want to be a part of). ESU certainly has a lot of potential to get bigger and better.

    Did enjoy being here

It was a friendly atmosphere as a somewhat small college campus. Students in certain programs were close, sometimes like family working together in the same computer lab.

    Did learn a lot

I'm a very big believer that you get out of something what you put it. An education, and the school in which that takes place, is no exception. Taking varied classes, going outside the box, can certainly help you learn a lot more than you'd expect.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready to work hard and keep on top of your work. Should also check into enrollment services once in awhile to make sure you don't have any dues.

    In three sentences

East Stroudsburg University is local school which has many programs to help you advance to a larger school. Its a great building block school, which can help many students exceed to their full potential. The faculty and staff are excellent.

Dorm life is awesome. I recommend it for the first two years. it gives you an experience that is unexplainable in words.

There are always fun activities on campus. The multicultural clubs always have events and programs that they do throughout the school year. There are field days and lots of interesting lectures to go to when you're out of class. There are movies on the quad, and they have a [Dorm] Hall Olympics. Overall, there's never a boring day at ESU!

    Food and Dining

The food at ESU is pretty good. They have plenty of food options at Dansbury Commons, which is the cafeteria. The hours to eat are very flexible at Dansbury. There is another food court you can eat at, in the Student Union Building. Their food is delicious and you can use your meals there as well.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is interesting. There are always activities going on in the dorm halls, for the people that live in the building along with people that live in the other dorm halls. If you live in an actual dorm (not the suites), get to know your hall-mates. If you do get to live in the suites, you'll rarely see your hall-mates.

    Academic Rigor

Academics at ESU are challenging. The class sizes are a bit large, as the campus is increasing its size. If you want to be a student with great grades, I suggest sitting in the front of classrooms and lecture halls; professors remember your face and you feel more connected with the lesson.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to make friends! This may seem like an obvious thing to do, but college gets very lonely without friends. At school, those people who you call friends are also your family. Also, the rec center on campus is great, it has so many different rooms and spaces for different kinds of sports and games, along with a full gym. Take advantage of it!

    In three sentences

    What to do for fun

ESU is located in the center of everything. Nothing is too far away such as the mall, restaurants and so forth. ESU also offers alot of fun activities to keep the boredom away. There is always an event being held at ESU whether its a concert or a community fair.

    Food and Dining

The food at Dansbury Commons is great. There is a wide variety of food, and ESU has months where they have cuisines from all around the world. A meal plan is a must have because the food there is worth it. I have no complaints so far.

    Dorm Life

If you have a suit then you are living in college paradise, ESU has built brand new suits that are beautiful. Although the suits are nice they are pricey so traditional is the way to go. Traditional dorms are basically the same as any other state college dorms, but if one has the money I say get a suit.

    Academic Rigor

I have yet to take a class at ESU but I start later in August but I believe that any college classes can be difficult but if one works hard then all the hard work will pay off in the end. I will be studying nursing so I know I will have a lot of work to do but ESU offers programs to help students who need help in and particular subject.

    Tips for prospective students

All that I can say to prospective students is to visit the campus and get a feel of the ESU campus. Also take full advantage of all the fun activities that ESU has. And last but not least do not be a stranger, if you need help with anything simply ask everyone is willing to help.

Great for these types of students

Individuals seeking to experience living in a diverse community

    What to do for fun

Across the campus there are many open places where people just hang out with their friends. A lot of individuals go the the gym, others join student led clubs. there are also many athletic teams one can join. There is also a strip of bars near to the campus where one can go to party. Also house parties are held.

    Food and Dining

This may be very subjective, but I find the food ok. While it is not the best, I would imagine that it is on par with any school within its category. Additionally, they really do make great efforts to provide a variety and serve good food.

    Dorm Life

I have only been on the dorms for one semester so far, but i must say I like the experience so far. Everyone is warm and friendly. As an RA, I believe that my coworkers and I, do our best to meet the needs of all students in the building. Our RD is another nice touch to the experience as she is very approachable and fun bu at the same time very knowledgeable. The custodial staff are cool people and do a great job in maintaining the upkeep of the building.

    Academic Rigor

In all institutions the more you advance the more challenging the work load gets, but it is always manageable. Again, seek out and use the school's resources, as they will help alleviate some of the pressure. While the professors demand a lot, sometimes in short periods of time, they will provide you with enough assistance and guidance to be successful.

    Tips for prospective students

Some professors may seem distant and hard to approach in class, but go see them during office hours and they will be very helpful (even the Gen Ed courses). Take advantage of all the various resources the school has to offer, the variety is astounding. Get to know people and begin networking.

    In three sentences

It is a culturally diverse school. From my knowledge, all the departments are well staffed with qualified personnel; but I can personally say that the Psychology department here, in all aspects, is magnificent, The school population is growing.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is huge on this campus. Police are always driving around and if you need help, are lost, or even need a ride home, call. I was followed up to the Fine Arts Center by someone and when I called Campus Police they were there in two minutes. They gave me a ride back to my dorm and gave me a guarantee that they would be there for me if I needed them to be. They take their jobs seriously.

    Clubs and Activities

    Loads and loads of clubs!

    What to do for fun

There's always something to do here on campus. Something is going on every day, whether it be lounge games, parties on the quad, or free fairs! Come April, ESU will never be quiet during the day. It's lively and inviting!

    Food and Dining

So, you know when they say the freshmen 50? They aren't kidding. The food is pretty good. You just have to watch your figure.

    Dorm Life

The dorms on campus are actually pretty nice. The suites were just built two years ago and the other dorms are really social and close to everything.

    Academic Rigor

When you know what you want, you will work towards it. The teachers here are willing to help you. They love students who love to learn. Asking questions doesn't show that you're stupid, it shows that you are interested in learning more.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you don't understand something, ask somebody. No one is going to judge you for not understanding the way something works. People here are willing to work with you.

    In three sentences

This University is an innovative school striving to develop the minds, creativity, and individuality of its students. It is a place where you will never feel unnoticed with friendly students and teachers that are not afraid to help you. Everyone looking to grow will be welcomed here.
