Am learning a lot
You learn a lot if you make it to every class and do all the readings required. It's tough, but anyone can do it. Get to know your teachers, they help more than you'd think. And they do understand what is happening with all the changes in our lives, don't be afraid to let them know what's going on!
Am enjoying being here
The residence life here is more than I thought it'd be. I went to Colonel Camp before school started, and it really helped introduce me to my best friends! The best part is we all live in the same dorm and on the same floor.
I love that the campus is so small. It takes about 5 minutes to get anywhere, so when you're hungry or you want to work out or go study, it just takes a very short walk to get there.
Bang for the buck
I am here on partial scholarship, so that makes it even more affordable. But the teachers here are great, and you really do learn a lot for the money you pay. Being so close to everything makes it even better.
Tips for prospective students
Do your homework, study, and go to class! Talk to your teachers if you don't understand something or are having a tough time adjusting. They're very understanding and very willing to help. Live on campus, at least for your first year. And if at all possible, go to Colonel Camp. It really gets you acquainted and comfortable with the campus, and you'll meet a ton of new people who are willing to help and that are in the same boat you are. :)
Great for these types of students
It's great if you come from a small town and want to keep it that way on campus. If you're like me, you'll love how close it is to home, but still far enough away to be gone.

Am learning a lot
The degrees I am pursuing are Fire Arson and Explosion Investigation & Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies, a bit of a mouthful. Eastern Kentucky University happened to be the only school that offers the Arson Investigation Program, we are #1. I love being a Colonel and I love campus. This is a great school with a lot of dedicated teachers who have earned the title of Dr.
Am enjoying being here
I love campus and the atmosphere. This campus has a great feel and there are people here that are willing to help. The students are more than willing to point you in the right direction if you ask. Campus is lovely and there is a great shopping mall with like 200 stores within driving distance of school. EKU is a large school with a small school feel, you will love your time at Eastern if you come.
Bang for the buck
If you are a resident of a near by state you qualify for targeted in state tuition. Which means that you will pay less to go to a great school. Education is the most powerful tool that one can have, don't let cost stop you from becoming an EKU Colonel.
Tips for prospective students
Once again education is the most powerful tool that one can have, dont let cost stop you from becoming an EKU Colonel. We are in the top 15%, come to the best. With a wide variety of degrees EKU is the perfect place for everyone.
Great for these types of students
At 15000 students we have a nice size student body. If you like interacting with people from different backgrounds EKU is the place for you. There is a huge international studies program in my first year at EKU I meet people from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Spain, and Russia. If you like schools that are in college towns Richmond is the place for you. The local business love the students of EKU not only do we keep there businesses running but they are also interested in our success. If you want to expand you horizon and meet some great people come to EKU.

Eastern Has taught me a lot. I went to a high school where we just did the less amount of work to pass. i was a 3.0 student. Here i have been taught that work is what makes you learn. I write papers much better now and am proud of my work.
Am enjoying being here
I am From South Florida but since i been here I have never thought of going back after graduation. The people friendly, students are hard workers, Professors want to help you learn. I was having trouble in one of my classes so i asked my professor what i could do and he offered to set up a study group with other student, also suggest a different textbook for me.
Bang for the buck
As an out of state student i am paying a great amount to be here at Eastern but i find it worth it. I made really good friends, and getting a good education. I am attending Top Criminal Justice schools in the country and love it i am learning so much for my major.
Tips for prospective students
I attended Colonel camp it was the best thing for me. Cause instead of having to move in on move in day i just had to help the other new students. Plus i meet many friends so when classes started i was not alone. I still hang out with many of my friends from camp. I suggest you try and attend this camp.
Great for these types of students
There are many different types of students here. We all just kinda mix together, it is the only place i have seen this in my life. I love that people don't judge you here. You can be who you are without worrying if someone will judge you.

Am learning a lot
I came to Eastern because it was the only college in Kentucky that had my major. I never expected to learn so much or to enjoy learning so much. The teachers are fun and really know how to make learning personal and connect it to the students. I enjoy waking up and going to class each and every day because I know the teachers care for me as a student and will do everything in their power to help me learn to the best of my ability.
Am enjoying being here
Eastern likes to take each and every student and make them feel like an individual on the campus. The campus is safe and has some places like the ravine that are fantastic for studying outdoors. I enjoy waking up each and every morning and commuting to Eastern to see what it has in store for me. There are so many things to help students learn, like the brand new Noel Center. The college is very student friendly.
Bang for the buck
Part of my decision in coming to Eastern was how cheap it was comparatively speaking. Ever part of the tuition, whether it be books, tuition, parking, or something else is an affordable cost for anyone wanting to learn. Try going to any other school and getting the same quality education for the price of Eastern.
Tips for prospective students
If you're looking for a great education with an affordable cost, Eastern is the place to be. Get involved in dorm life if you live there; if you do not, get to know students in your classes. It's very helpful to have other students you know to study with or work on various projects with. Also, it makes it a lot more fun having someone you can hang out with.
Great for these types of students
Eastern is great for any type of student. The college is affordable, and it works hard to provide for students in any way necessary. Eastern has great programs for all types of students and it's a great place for anyone to learn and pursue a degree.

The professors are the best of the best. They are very educated in their fields and are extremely effective in their exchange of information. Making it to class, participating, and doing all of the reading is key! Personal responsibility is essential. Anyone can do it, but effort, dedication, and lastly your grade is up to you!
Am enjoying being here
This school has such a great atmosphere. There is so much to do when you are not in class. So many different settings to study, browse, or just catch up with friends. From the libraries, labs, several different coffee shops and dining rooms, to the noel studio or the gym, there is always something to do or somewhere to go.
Bang for the buck
Its no secret that college is expensive. However at Eastern Kentucky University, you really get the bang for the buck. Included in tuition for classes, you get free membership to their fitness and wellness facility, which is state of the art and has something for anyone and everyone to do. You also get to attend different programs such as lectures offered throughout the semester and special guest appearence events as well.
Tips for prospective students
The most important tip for any prospective student is to SHOW UP to class. Remember, college is different than high school. The semesters are only half of a regular high school year, so as much information will be expected to be learned in half the time. You really do miss a whole lot when you miss even one class. Also complete any required readings and apply yourself as much as you possibly can, sometimes all the work can feel overwhelming but getting behind is far worse.
Great for these types of students
Eastern Kentucky University is a great place for anyone who wants to get the full college experience or for someone like me, who wants to be under the instruction of highly educated professors in smaller classes. Whether you are a new high school graduate, or a returning student Eastern Kentucky University is a GREAT place to be!

Am learning a lot
Eastern Kentucky University is filled with a variety of knowledgeable professors, each one with a unique teaching style. Whether or not the subject piques your interest, you can learn a lot from them if you pay attention and make sure you take good notes of the content. I learned this from the get go, and I feel I am a lot wiser now than I did whenever I began attending classes.
Am enjoying being here
This college provides a number of activities to keep you from being bored, and there are a multitude of little communities where people gather for one cause or another. It's never a dull day if you're involved, and the environment seems to be rather friendly. I only gave four stars because I get kind of homesick every now and then.
Bang for the buck
Well, this is an interesting one! Eastern Kentucky University isn't as large OR expensive as some of the other colleges in Kentucky, so you should do pretty well here financially. As far as getting a bang for your buck goes, I guess the only thing I could complain about is the quality/price of the food. Don't get me wrong-- there's a lot to choose from! However, to be paying so much for a meal plan I would at least expect higher quality (and fully cooked) foods.
Tips for prospective students
Buy a planner. Cannot emphasize this enough. If you have a lot of classes it's easy to forget stuff and/or fall behind. At least if you're able to write it down you'll have a reminder, especially when you're taking classes with professors who don't offer an assignment calendar in their syllabus. Also, good note taking skills are very important in a lot of classes, and don't freak out over tests! Just study, keep your head level, and you should turn out okay.
Great for these types of students
Eastern Kentucky University is great for all types of students. If you want an affordable college with high quality education, it may just be the college for you.

Am learning a lot
Since coming to EKU, I have learned many things in and out of the classroom. In the class, I am not just taught information, but how to use it in real life. Many professors go above and beyond to help their students if they are struggling to learn the material needed. However, if the professor is not able to help you, they send you to one of the many places on campus to get you the tutoring you need to make an excellent grade. EKU have many programs that are better than many other universities such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and just about anything under the Criminal Justice Department.
Am enjoying being here
I live on campus and love every minute of it. However, EKU is a great place to be a student whether you live on or off campus. Every week has multiple events going on for students to go to for free most of the time. Some examples of events that happen are blood drives, concerts, speakers, games, etc. EKU is located in a city that has a suburban nature to it. There are many restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, bookstores, and even a theater all less than 5 minutes away from campus.
Bang for the buck
EKU is the cheapest 4 year or higher university in the state of Kentucky as far as tuition, parking permits, meal plans, and dorms go. Professors are always looking out for students to make it easier to find and be able to buy their textbooks at the cheapest price possible.
Tips for prospective students
Always check your email often for what is happening on campus. If you have a question ask. Visit campus before beginning class to get a feel for the layout. If you are struggling in class, do the following. Figure out why you are struggling. Talk to your professor, adviser, and/or counselor. Learn where all the help, tutoring, and computer centers are because they will be very useful to all who must have perfection in the school work.
Great for these types of students
Great for social people, people who do not have many to waste, those who like to get the most for their money. Also for anyone majoring in the above mentioned programs, since they are some of EKU's best programs.

Coming from a small town its easy to say that my graduating class didnt learn the things we needed to. In my first two days of English and history we covered everything that I had learned over four years of high school. Easterns friendly atmosphere and easy going professors make it easy for you to get adjusted and on track. and each day you learn something new and interesting.
Am enjoying being here
It's great i would not want to go to any other college. you meet people from all over the state, nation, and world. you walk into the lunch room and hear familiar music from all genres. Professors are understanding and upperclassmen are always willing to lend advice. Don't be afraid to ask questions! They will be answered!
Bang for the buck
With EKU you find yourself in a setting that has high standards. It is a big business school. It also offers many programs that other schools across the state do not. When you walk into a classroom no matter what your major is, you can expect to get your moneys worth. At EKU the education of its students comes first and they make sure they offer you the best teachers and the most resources to help you succeed.
Tips for prospective students
DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS! No matter what they are, there is always someone who has felt the same way or experienced the same thing you are. Check out rate my professor.com, get an idea of whose class you want to be. Rush, you'll meet a ton of people, and most of all relax and be positive. as long as you do this you'll be fine and love Eastern just as everyone already here does!
Great for these types of students
Eastern is a great school for anyone! Especially for Criminal Justice, Business, and Education majors. Eastern is a great undergraduate school for any major.

Eastern Kentucky University, an incredible school in Richmond Kentucky, gives students an undergraduate career that they've always dreamed of. Academics are challenging yet informative. Eastern keeps up with the latest technologies and tools to ensure learning for all students. Outside of the classroom, EKU has a booming campus life, getting all students involved in clubs, honor societies, greek organizations, program specific groups, or athletics.
Tips for prospective students
My tip for prospective students is to come to EKU with an open mind. It won't take but a few minutes walking around on campus to fall in love with the school and the town of Richmond. The sense of Colonel Pride that students and the community have is overwhelming and definitely makes the college experience. Come visit EKU, multiple times if needed, until you are sure this is where you belong. The colonels are ready to welcome you home!
Academic Rigor
Academics depend on the program you are enrolled in. Eastern graduates students that are able to compete for top notch positions against all other applicants. The work is tough, but that's college. Come willing to work, hard work always pays off.
Dorm Life
Living in a dorm at EKU is a great experience. Dorm life allows you to meet others around you and form bonds with them as you take on your college experience. As a former Resident Assistant that worked for EKU housing, I can confidently say that housing strives to provide the best, most comfortable, and eventual dorm life for students. Programs, created by the RA's, are held monthly to offer students opportunities to participate in fun activities while meeting people living in the same building. Living in a dorm is a blast and helps to develop you as a person as most students take on college for the first time on their own.
Food and Dining
EKU has several different food options for students. The Fresh Food Company provides Upstairs Powell, the main dining cafeteria for students, with delicious food such as pizza, pasta, salad, grilled food, and home cooking. There are many different options daily. If you're in more of a hurry and need a quick fix, Downstairs Powell is the place for you. Twisted Taco, The WEDGE, Chick-fil-A, Grill Works, and Subway are open all day every day to provide a delicious meal for students. Other places on campus include Cuisine, Einstein Bagels, Starbucks, and Stratton Cafe. EKU also offers a small store called P.O.D. located in both the Business Center and Downstairs Powell.
What to do for fun
Eastern offers so many different activities. As a undergraduate student, everyone goes to REC the Ravine. This is put on by the Campus REC and H.E.A.T. teams and involves a lot of outdoor activities at the ravine, free t-shirts, and free food! This event is a blast and is held at the beginning of every fall semester. There are also numerous plays and concerts held throughout the semester. Students get discounted tickets for productions so don't forget your ID. Join clubs and get involved is my advice for what to do for fun. Meet people, as many as you can!! Go outside of your comfort zone, out on a limb, join a club that interests you and go with it!
Bang for the buck
College is expensive, but EKU offers the perfect college experience. With help from generous scholarships, students can be successful here at EKU academically and socially. EKU is also named Best for the Vets in 2015 because of all the help and support they offer Veterans.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
There are a few unusual quirks about Eastern. Many have heard about the blue lady that haunts Keene Johnson and is heard singing sometimes. There's also a secret underground tunnel that connects two buildings on campus. Stratton also has a cafe that most students don't know about. Stratton cafe is know for their amazing food and delicious chicken wraps!
Greek Life
Greek Life isn't for everyone but at EKU, all students are encouraged to go through recruitment. Greek life offers a sense of community with all of the sororities and fraternities. Keep an open mind and be willing to put yourself out there. Greek Life helps to influence the woman or man that you are and encourages you to better yourself while representing an organization bigger than yourself.
Campus Safety
Eastern's Campus has many safety features. The first are RAVE mobile alerts and emails. This is something students have the option to sign up for at any point in their college career at EKU. Alerts are sent to the students phone/email when needed. For example, if campus is closed for weather purposes, students signed up for the program would receive a text message stating that alert. Another safety feature is the EKU Emergency Call boxes on campus. The call boxes are everywhere on campus and are there in case of an emergency or if you feel uncomfortable or like your'e in danger. You press the call button that alerts the police and help will be there within minutes. Officers at EKU are kind, personable, and always willing to help.

Eastern Kentucky University is very centered around students. Every student is treated with the utmost respect and all questions asked are answered. It is easy to get information from faculty about a class or about administration issues at EKU which is one of the greatest difficulties I have had in college and students always feel welcome rather than bothersome.
Tips for prospective students
Be diligent and conscientious in your classwork and your homework/study time and come to your professors immediately when you have questions. If you bring your questions to your professors- they will get answered. If you do these things, you should be fine as long as your study methods are rigorous.
Academic Rigor
Academically, EKU classes can be challenging, but if enough time is given to study for each class, it is never impossible to make an A. I have definitely been challenged and my ability to think critically has definitely been stimulated at EKU.
Dorm Life
Dorms are decent, but they are dorms. Parking on campus can be hard to find.
Food and Dining
Food at EKU is probably better than UK. Healthy choices are always an option, which is a big thing for me, and everything is always fresh and delicious. They also have decent fast-food options in Powell, if you like a greasy meal.
What to do for fun
There are unlimited amounts of activities for fun at EKU. EKU has enormous amounts of intramural teams and club teams, as well as a greek life, if you choose to go greek. They also have wonderful religious groups and political groups and adventure groups. There is a group with activities for just about any type of interest you could possibly imagine.
Bang for the buck
EKU is well worth the money. I have not been disappointed in the least with my classes or my professors. I probably find at least one reason a week why I like EKU more as I learn things around campus. I just love it and am really going to be sad to graduate!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
The Ravine- (Location)- It's a great relaxing place to hang out on campus. It's an outdoor amphitheater and it's absolutely beautiful. There is always all sorts of activities and people hanging out in the Ravine. There are several hundred year old trees and beautiful landscaping for laying in the grass and studying in between classes.
Great for these types of students
It is great for students who like to be able to have their professors on hand and ask lots of questions. EKU professors encourage questions, unlike other big universities.
Clubs and Activities
As I stated above, clubs and activities are just unlimited at EKU. There is almost anything for any type of interest and most of them are free of cost, they just require your time. There's never a reason to be sitting at home.
Greek Life
I personally do not participate in Greek Life at EKU, but I know many people who are Greek and enjoy it. There are a lot of options between sororities and fraternities and they participate heavily in EKU activities, volunteering in the community, etc.
Campus Safety
I always feel safe at EKU. Lighting around campus is nice and EKU officers can usually be spotted on a regular walk across campus to class. I have never felt threatened or unsafe at EKU.
