Categories Comments Great for these types of students At 15000 students we have a nice size student body. If you like interacting with people from different backgrounds EKU is the place for you. There is a huge international studies program in my first year at EKU I meet people from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Spain, and Russia. If you like schools that are in college towns Richmond is the place for you. The local business love the students of EKU not only do we keep there businesses running but they are also interested in our success. If you want to expand you horizon and meet some great people come to EKU.
Tips for prospective students Once again education is the most powerful tool that one can have, dont let cost stop you from becoming an EKU Colonel. We are in the top 15%, come to the best. With a wide variety of degrees EKU is the perfect place for everyone.
Bang for the buck If you are a resident of a near by state you qualify for targeted in state tuition. Which means that you will pay less to go to a great school. Education is the most powerful tool that one can have, don't let cost stop you from becoming an EKU Colonel.
Am enjoying being here I love campus and the atmosphere. This campus has a great feel and there are people here that are willing to help. The students are more than willing to point you in the right direction if you ask. Campus is lovely and there is a great shopping mall with like 200 stores within driving distance of school. EKU is a large school with a small school feel, you will love your time at Eastern if you come.
Am learning a lot The degrees I am pursuing are Fire Arson and Explosion Investigation & Correctional and Juvenile Justice Studies, a bit of a mouthful. Eastern Kentucky University happened to be the only school that offers the Arson Investigation Program, we are #1. I love being a Colonel and I love campus. This is a great school with a lot of dedicated teachers who have earned the title of Dr.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It's great if you come from a small town and want to keep it that way on campus. If you're like me, you'll love how close it is to home, but still far enough away to be gone.
Tips for prospective students Do your homework, study, and go to class! Talk to your teachers if you don't understand something or are having a tough time adjusting. They're very understanding and very willing to help. Live on campus, at least for your first year. And if at all possible, go to Colonel Camp. It really gets you acquainted and comfortable with the campus, and you'll meet a ton of new people who are willing to help and that are in the same boat you are. :)
Bang for the buck I am here on partial scholarship, so that makes it even more affordable. But the teachers here are great, and you really do learn a lot for the money you pay. Being so close to everything makes it even better.
Am enjoying being here The residence life here is more than I thought it'd be. I went to Colonel Camp before school started, and it really helped introduce me to my best friends! The best part is we all live in the same dorm and on the same floor. I love that the campus is so small. It takes about 5 minutes to get anywhere, so when you're hungry or you want to work out or go study, it just takes a very short walk to get there.
Am learning a lot You learn a lot if you make it to every class and do all the readings required. It's tough, but anyone can do it. Get to know your teachers, they help more than you'd think. And they do understand what is happening with all the changes in our lives, don't be afraid to let them know what's going on!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students There are many different types of students here. We all just kinda mix together, it is the only place i have seen this in my life. I love that people don't judge you here. You can be who you are without worrying if someone will judge you.
Tips for prospective students I attended Colonel camp it was the best thing for me. Cause instead of having to move in on move in day i just had to help the other new students. Plus i meet many friends so when classes started i was not alone. I still hang out with many of my friends from camp. I suggest you try and attend this camp.
Bang for the buck As an out of state student i am paying a great amount to be here at Eastern but i find it worth it. I made really good friends, and getting a good education. I am attending Top Criminal Justice schools in the country and love it i am learning so much for my major.
Am enjoying being here I am From South Florida but since i been here I have never thought of going back after graduation. The people friendly, students are hard workers, Professors want to help you learn. I was having trouble in one of my classes so i asked my professor what i could do and he offered to set up a study group with other student, also suggest a different textbook for me.
Am learning a lot Eastern Has taught me a lot. I went to a high school where we just did the less amount of work to pass. i was a 3.0 student. Here i have been taught that work is what makes you learn. I write papers much better now and am proud of my work.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Eastern is great for any type of student. The college is affordable, and it works hard to provide for students in any way necessary. Eastern has great programs for all types of students and it's a great place for anyone to learn and pursue a degree.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for a great education with an affordable cost, Eastern is the place to be. Get involved in dorm life if you live there; if you do not, get to know students in your classes. It's very helpful to have other students you know to study with or work on various projects with. Also, it makes it a lot more fun having someone you can hang out with.
Bang for the buck Part of my decision in coming to Eastern was how cheap it was comparatively speaking. Ever part of the tuition, whether it be books, tuition, parking, or something else is an affordable cost for anyone wanting to learn. Try going to any other school and getting the same quality education for the price of Eastern.
Am enjoying being here Eastern likes to take each and every student and make them feel like an individual on the campus. The campus is safe and has some places like the ravine that are fantastic for studying outdoors. I enjoy waking up each and every morning and commuting to Eastern to see what it has in store for me. There are so many things to help students learn, like the brand new Noel Center. The college is very student friendly.
Am learning a lot I came to Eastern because it was the only college in Kentucky that had my major. I never expected to learn so much or to enjoy learning so much. The teachers are fun and really know how to make learning personal and connect it to the students. I enjoy waking up and going to class each and every day because I know the teachers care for me as a student and will do everything in their power to help me learn to the best of my ability.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Eastern Kentucky University is a great place for anyone who wants to get the full college experience or for someone like me, who wants to be under the instruction of highly educated professors in smaller classes. Whether you are a new high school graduate, or a returning student Eastern Kentucky University is a GREAT place to be!
Tips for prospective students The most important tip for any prospective student is to SHOW UP to class. Remember, college is different than high school. The semesters are only half of a regular high school year, so as much information will be expected to be learned in half the time. You really do miss a whole lot when you miss even one class. Also complete any required readings and apply yourself as much as you possibly can, sometimes all the work can feel overwhelming but getting behind is far worse.
Bang for the buck Its no secret that college is expensive. However at Eastern Kentucky University, you really get the bang for the buck. Included in tuition for classes, you get free membership to their fitness and wellness facility, which is state of the art and has something for anyone and everyone to do. You also get to attend different programs such as lectures offered throughout the semester and special guest appearence events as well.
Am enjoying being here This school has such a great atmosphere. There is so much to do when you are not in class. So many different settings to study, browse, or just catch up with friends. From the libraries, labs, several different coffee shops and dining rooms, to the noel studio or the gym, there is always something to do or somewhere to go.
Am learning a lot The professors are the best of the best. They are very educated in their fields and are extremely effective in their exchange of information. Making it to class, participating, and doing all of the reading is key! Personal responsibility is essential. Anyone can do it, but effort, dedication, and lastly your grade is up to you!

Categories Comments Bang for the buck EKU definitely has a better price tag then bigger colleges like U of L or UK, but if you're not well off, you should seek financial aid
Am enjoying being here I LOVE being here. i made so many friends on my floor in my residence hall. they have so many activities and interactions for new students, there's no way you won't have fun.
Am learning a lot The teachers at EKU are very helpful and try to help you succeed through your college career. If you are struggling in a class, just have a private talk with that professor and they will respond to your request.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Eastern is a great school for anyone! Especially for Criminal Justice, Business, and Education majors. Eastern is a great undergraduate school for any major.
Tips for prospective students DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS! No matter what they are, there is always someone who has felt the same way or experienced the same thing you are. Check out rate my professor.com, get an idea of whose class you want to be. Rush, you'll meet a ton of people, and most of all relax and be positive. as long as you do this you'll be fine and love Eastern just as everyone already here does!
Bang for the buck With EKU you find yourself in a setting that has high standards. It is a big business school. It also offers many programs that other schools across the state do not. When you walk into a classroom no matter what your major is, you can expect to get your moneys worth. At EKU the education of its students comes first and they make sure they offer you the best teachers and the most resources to help you succeed.
Am enjoying being here It's great i would not want to go to any other college. you meet people from all over the state, nation, and world. you walk into the lunch room and hear familiar music from all genres. Professors are understanding and upperclassmen are always willing to lend advice. Don't be afraid to ask questions! They will be answered!
Am learning a lot Coming from a small town its easy to say that my graduating class didnt learn the things we needed to. In my first two days of English and history we covered everything that I had learned over four years of high school. Easterns friendly atmosphere and easy going professors make it easy for you to get adjusted and on track. and each day you learn something new and interesting.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Eastern Kentucky University is great for all types of students. If you want an affordable college with high quality education, it may just be the college for you.
Tips for prospective students Buy a planner. Cannot emphasize this enough. If you have a lot of classes it's easy to forget stuff and/or fall behind. At least if you're able to write it down you'll have a reminder, especially when you're taking classes with professors who don't offer an assignment calendar in their syllabus. Also, good note taking skills are very important in a lot of classes, and don't freak out over tests! Just study, keep your head level, and you should turn out okay.
Bang for the buck Well, this is an interesting one! Eastern Kentucky University isn't as large OR expensive as some of the other colleges in Kentucky, so you should do pretty well here financially. As far as getting a bang for your buck goes, I guess the only thing I could complain about is the quality/price of the food. Don't get me wrong-- there's a lot to choose from! However, to be paying so much for a meal plan I would at least expect higher quality (and fully cooked) foods.
Am enjoying being here This college provides a number of activities to keep you from being bored, and there are a multitude of little communities where people gather for one cause or another. It's never a dull day if you're involved, and the environment seems to be rather friendly. I only gave four stars because I get kind of homesick every now and then.
Am learning a lot Eastern Kentucky University is filled with a variety of knowledgeable professors, each one with a unique teaching style. Whether or not the subject piques your interest, you can learn a lot from them if you pay attention and make sure you take good notes of the content. I learned this from the get go, and I feel I am a lot wiser now than I did whenever I began attending classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who like a medium size school where you don't know everyone but also can always find someone to do something with.
Tips for prospective students Attend all classes and expect to work extremely hard and study a lot.
Bang for the buck Some professors are not the best that I had hoped for but if you put every effort into the courses it is worth it.
Am enjoying being here Residence life is wonderful and living in the dorms is extremely convenient with classes.
Am learning a lot Each course is as challenging as you make it to be and there is a course for every area of interest.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I attended as a full time, non-traditional commuter student. I feel like it was built just as much for me as it was the traditional, dorm student
Tips for prospective students Take your prereqs early and make sure you have them down. By the time you are ready to apply for your program you want to have all the basic stuff under your belt. That way you can focus on your program.
Bang for the buck Pretty reasonable as far as state schools go.
Did enjoy being here Loved it. The clinical lab and computer lab within the nursing building made student life so easy. As a commuter student, it was an easy campus to get in and out of. I loved to bring my family by to walk the grounds, because it is so beautiful in spring!
Did learn a lot The Associates Degree of Nursing program is AMAZING. It is intense, it is not for people who want to get the minimum. If you are willing to invest in yourself and the program, you will not be disappointed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for social people, people who do not have many to waste, those who like to get the most for their money. Also for anyone majoring in the above mentioned programs, since they are some of EKU's best programs.
Tips for prospective students Always check your email often for what is happening on campus. If you have a question ask. Visit campus before beginning class to get a feel for the layout. If you are struggling in class, do the following. Figure out why you are struggling. Talk to your professor, adviser, and/or counselor. Learn where all the help, tutoring, and computer centers are because they will be very useful to all who must have perfection in the school work.
Bang for the buck EKU is the cheapest 4 year or higher university in the state of Kentucky as far as tuition, parking permits, meal plans, and dorms go. Professors are always looking out for students to make it easier to find and be able to buy their textbooks at the cheapest price possible.
Am enjoying being here I live on campus and love every minute of it. However, EKU is a great place to be a student whether you live on or off campus. Every week has multiple events going on for students to go to for free most of the time. Some examples of events that happen are blood drives, concerts, speakers, games, etc. EKU is located in a city that has a suburban nature to it. There are many restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores, bookstores, and even a theater all less than 5 minutes away from campus.
Am learning a lot Since coming to EKU, I have learned many things in and out of the classroom. In the class, I am not just taught information, but how to use it in real life. Many professors go above and beyond to help their students if they are struggling to learn the material needed. However, if the professor is not able to help you, they send you to one of the many places on campus to get you the tutoring you need to make an excellent grade. EKU have many programs that are better than many other universities such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and just about anything under the Criminal Justice Department.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for all kinds of students. The variety of people found here are vast and there are all kinds of activities and organizations to join. There is a place for everyone.
Tips for prospective students My big tip for prospectice students is that college is nothing like high school whatsoever, and take college seriously. This is a big step for anyone and try to make the best of your time here.
Bang for the buck EKU's tuition is very reasonable and this college has a lot of scholarship opportunities so you won't have a bunch of student loans after you graduate.
Am enjoying being here Eastern Kentucky University has a great campus and the people are all really great. This is a great community to be apart of.
Am learning a lot All of the professors are very helpful and want you to succeed in getting through college. The classes I am taking are general classes, but I am learning things that I never knew before.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Since this school has online and on campus classes, it is good for any type of student.
Tips for prospective students If you are interested in coming to this school, come on a spotlight day. That way you can get the whole experience of the campus and the school. You can see the campus and learn a lot.
Bang for the buck Every school is always pricey, but i think this school is something you can afford if you have financial aid. This school is really worth the money.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love being here! The campus is beautiful, especially in the fall where you can see the leaves turn yellow. The classes are great and I'm making a lot of friends. I thought it would be hard since I'm deaf and I've realized it isn't because I've found friends who can speak my language.
Am learning a lot This is a great school to learn from. A lot of the teachers that I have are nice and they care great about your education. For instance, one of my teachers constantly move up the homework due date so the students can finish it on time and get a good grade.

Bang for the buck Eastern is well worth what you pay for it. I heard time after time that you never learn anything but I know that is not true. My year and a half at Eastern has been great. I've learnt so much.
Am enjoying being here I love Eastern Kentucky University. Enrolling in this Institution was the best idea ever. The professors, the employees, and all the people are such great people and I have made so many friends.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i'm out late because of work and i use the night shuttle a lot! i am terrified of the dark but i have never once felt unsafe on campus, and that is really important to me.
Clubs and Activities i was a section editor for the milestone and i just loved it. i also hold two jobs on campus and genuinely enjoy the both of them.
Great for these types of students anyone wanting to get the entire college experience.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus during the warm months i love going to the ravine to catch up on some homework and enjoy the weather. i always take my ipod and portable speakers and relax! it is definitely my favorite spot on campus.
Bang for the buck i feel like i am getting the education and experience iim paying for.
Food and Dining i love all of the quick stop places on campus where i can use my flex. between classes i am always in such a rush but i use the breaks i have a delicious bagel at einstein bros, or grab a chicken sandwich from chick fil a.
Dorm Life i absolutely love living on campus! i lived in keene last year and i was so close to all my floor mates and others in the hall. being on the opposite side of campus, kind of secluded, helped me form many lasting relationships with so many people.
Academic Rigor i have never had a professor that didn't like! class sizes are just perfect to be able to have one on one time with your professors. there is a tutor for every subject; this availability has helped me tremendously!
Tips for prospective students choosing eastern over other schools was a difficult decision; after all, this is a plan for the next four years. however, after my very first week here at eku i know i made the right decision and if given the opportunity, i wouldn't change it.
In three sentences eastern opens so many doors to meeting new all kinds of new people. i now can say that i have friends from all over the world and just knowing them has opened my world up so much. i'm getting far more than an education here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are emergency phones all over campus. Security is pretty tight. That means if you are parked in a place that your parking pass does not permit, DO NOT PARK there. A ticket will be issued!
Greek Life Not a part of Greek life yet!
Clubs and Activities I am a math tutor for the Education Pays center (EPC), which is a program at EKU for non-traditional parents who are trying to pursue their degrees. I also tutor math to younger student who are trying to get their GEDs, ACT scores up, and elementary, middle, and high school age.
What to do for fun There are plenty of things to do for fun... Bowling, skating, eating, resting, social life on campus, meet and greats for different organizations, movies, and going to the outlet mall. This goes for anyone; in order to have fun you have to make it what you want it to be.
Food and Dining On campus, the food is a little more expensive than off campus.
Academic Rigor I give this school 3.5 stars because the resources available for me varies but my advisers keep me on top of my game for a maximum academic success.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the resources available, ask plenty of questions even though they may seem dumb, and strive for excellence. Do Not waste your time and money!!!!
In three sentences A great school to attend for education. This school has a numerous amount of resources available for achievement and success. EKU also has teachers and faculty that are willing to go above and beyond their duty sometimes to help their students achieve their goals.

Categories Comments Campus Safety EKU has their own police force just for the University. Emergency calls boxes are located throughout campus. A trolley service is offered for students whenever they're faced with walking alone on campus. Also, because EKU is known for their Criminal Justice education programs, many police conventions and trainings are held at EKU. You often see many police cars from surrounding counties and cities driving through Richmond.
Greek Life Great Greek Life! EKU has two dorms that are located right next to each other called the 'Greek Towers'. This houses most of the sororities and fraternities on campus.
What to do for fun EKU is just a short drive from Lexington, KY. A big city that has much to offer. There are many attractions in Richmond, also. Lake Reba is a favorite destination in Richmond. Having a picnic, fishing in the lake, or going for a jog around the running track are just a few things to mention. Lake Reba also has many attractions such as: Paradise Cove (a small waterpark), batting cages, mini-golf, a dog park, golf course. EKU also offers many events daily to keep students entertained. They are notified through their student email of events going on for the day. EKU Center for the Arts always has great shows scheduled that many students take advantage of. The recent hype to come to the Center was Willie Nelson.
Food and Dining EKU's food service is something their known for. The buffet style of Upstairs Powell gives you many options from homestyle cooked meals, to International cuisine, and not to mention a pizza bar. Downstairs Powell, known as 'DSP' to students, offers a variety of fast food chains. Other cafe's are located throughout campus.
Dorm Life EKU offers many community dorm programs to get you involved in meeting your hall-mates. Most of the dorms at EKU are a tight-knit community, which makes living in the dorm somewhat like home.
Academic Rigor EKU is known for it's academic reputation in many areas such as: Education, Fire and Safety, Criminal Justice, Athletic Training, Nursing, and many others.
Tips for prospective students GET INVOLVED! Meeting people is what college is all about. EKU gives you a great opportunity to do so, as long as you take advantage of it.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky University is the perfect size school; not too big, yet not too small. EKU has a great reputation not only in academics but athletics as well. This school provides you with many opportunities and surrounds you with amazing people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel safe at EKU. Lighting around campus is nice and EKU officers can usually be spotted on a regular walk across campus to class. I have never felt threatened or unsafe at EKU.
Greek Life I personally do not participate in Greek Life at EKU, but I know many people who are Greek and enjoy it. There are a lot of options between sororities and fraternities and they participate heavily in EKU activities, volunteering in the community, etc.
Clubs and Activities As I stated above, clubs and activities are just unlimited at EKU. There is almost anything for any type of interest and most of them are free of cost, they just require your time. There's never a reason to be sitting at home.
Great for these types of students It is great for students who like to be able to have their professors on hand and ask lots of questions. EKU professors encourage questions, unlike other big universities.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Ravine- (Location)- It's a great relaxing place to hang out on campus. It's an outdoor amphitheater and it's absolutely beautiful. There is always all sorts of activities and people hanging out in the Ravine. There are several hundred year old trees and beautiful landscaping for laying in the grass and studying in between classes.
Bang for the buck EKU is well worth the money. I have not been disappointed in the least with my classes or my professors. I probably find at least one reason a week why I like EKU more as I learn things around campus. I just love it and am really going to be sad to graduate!
What to do for fun There are unlimited amounts of activities for fun at EKU. EKU has enormous amounts of intramural teams and club teams, as well as a greek life, if you choose to go greek. They also have wonderful religious groups and political groups and adventure groups. There is a group with activities for just about any type of interest you could possibly imagine.
Food and Dining Food at EKU is probably better than UK. Healthy choices are always an option, which is a big thing for me, and everything is always fresh and delicious. They also have decent fast-food options in Powell, if you like a greasy meal.
Dorm Life Dorms are decent, but they are dorms. Parking on campus can be hard to find.
Academic Rigor Academically, EKU classes can be challenging, but if enough time is given to study for each class, it is never impossible to make an A. I have definitely been challenged and my ability to think critically has definitely been stimulated at EKU.
Tips for prospective students Be diligent and conscientious in your classwork and your homework/study time and come to your professors immediately when you have questions. If you bring your questions to your professors- they will get answered. If you do these things, you should be fine as long as your study methods are rigorous.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky University is very centered around students. Every student is treated with the utmost respect and all questions asked are answered. It is easy to get information from faculty about a class or about administration issues at EKU which is one of the greatest difficulties I have had in college and students always feel welcome rather than bothersome.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is always something going on around campus. If that doesn't interest you, the city of Lexington is a 20 minute drive on the freeway.
Food and Dining The downstairs food court offers great fast food options such a Chic-fil-a and Quizno's subs. The upstairs has buffet style meals that are decent.
Dorm Life In regards to freshman, I would recommend living in the freshman dorms to meet new people and be introduced to campus life by attentive RA's. Beyond freshman year I would recommend living off campus.
Academic Rigor Professors expect just as much from you as large university's, yet the small class sizes make it easier to learn and receive help from the instructors.
Tips for prospective students Work before play, students tend to get this backwards. Also, if you plan to live on campus, expect to walk long distances to your car.
In three sentences If you seek the college university experience without the overbearing number of students such as larger university's, then EKU is your school. It is large enough that you pass dozens of strangers on your walk to class, yet will always run into a familiar face.

Bang for the buck EKU isn't outrageously expensive but I believe the education is well worth the money. EKU is known for some of the outstanding programs available and they are completely worth the money.

Am learning a lot My writing and comprehensive skills have improve drastically since coming to EKU. Almost all of my professors have been very helpful in working with me on these skills.

Categories Comments Greek Life Many soroities and fraternities to choose from!
What to do for fun There are two gyms on campus that offer Zumba, Pilate's, and basketball courts. Also, campus is downtown where there is many night clubs and restaurants.
Food and Dining Students have a wide range of options to choose from when it comes to food. On campus, there is a Starbucks, Arby's, Chick fil a, and many other choices. Dining is excellent too, allowing students more yummy choices!
Dorm Life The Dorms are small, like any other campus but it gives students the opportunity to move away from home and meet more people. Also, the opportunity to become more independent.
Academic Rigor While, the work can be challenging at times there are study groups, helpful teachers, and tutors.
Tips for prospective students While college is fun and exciting, students must remember why they are attending. It is important that students attend all their classes, so they will not miss any important material or remarks made by the professor. Study groups are helpful too!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Students receive safety alerts through an email and text system.
Great for these types of students I am a commuter student and I find EKU to be accommodating. I do not feel completely out of the loop just because I commute to class.
Bang for the buck I have found that the you can get the best bargain on text books at the University Book and Supply located beside sun tan city and Quiznos in Richmond, KY.
What to do for fun On campus there are a variety of free lectures that go on basically everyday. There are also plays and concerts that you can attend every once in awhile. There are a variety of fitness classes as well as clubs students can attend as well.
Food and Dining There are sparatic dinning places located on campus some include a bagel shop, and various coffee shops. Most dinning takes place in the Powell Building which has a student cafeteria upstairs that has lots of choices of food (buffet) and is relatively inexpensive. The downstairs of Powell has cuisine places such as; mexican food, subs, chinese food, and a grill.
Dorm Life I am currently a commuter so I really can't comment on this area.
Academic Rigor I find that the basic classes usually have many students in one classroom which I find it makes it hard to concentrate. Once you begin taking your content classes I found that the academic rigor increases dramatically, but as long as you love what your majoring in it shouldn't be a problem.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking to major in Education then EKU is the school for you. The major courses there are specifically designed to make you feel confident in all content areas. I am set to graduate in December of this year and I feel very satisfied with the education I have recieved.
In three sentences I really enjoy being a student at Eastern Kentucky University. I am currently majoring in middle grade education. The education department and instructor's genuinely have interest in their students and have prepared me to be the best teacher possible.

Dorm Life Visiting some of the dorms, the rooms are a bit small, but the students are very friendly, and just about everything you need is close by. It's good to get away from living at home for so long.
Academic Rigor I've checked out the classes which pertain to my degree, and have spoken to the chairman of my major, and they all seem adequate.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Being located near the Kentucky State Police Training Center, campus safety is high priority for the local authorities. Students can even sign up for public safety alerts on their phones and through e-mail to be notified of potential threats (weather included).
Clubs and Activities There are an abundance of clubs to take part in at EKU, and there is bound to be a niche for just about anyone.
Great for these types of students Students who enjoy the outdoors would love Eastern Kentucky University, as it has a large ravine where professors sometimes hold class, concerts are held, or church services gather.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It is said that a lot of students during finals week rub the foot of Daniel Boone's statue in front of Keene Johnson building for good luck.
Bang for the buck Eastern Kentucky University is a small college which provides more hands on experience with professors than larger universities. The cost to attend EKU is less than similar colleges such as WKU, UK, and UofL.
What to do for fun Near the school there are a few parks, one of which has a small water park that is open in the summer. Richmond is conveniently located close to Lexington, so those with a car can take a short trip up there for more shopping and activities.
Food and Dining The dining hall on campus is average. Restaurants are located on the basement level of the same building as the dining hall, and offer choices such as Mexican and Asian foods.
Dorm Life The dormitories on campus are quite large compared to other colleges. Many of the rooms include sinks, and all of the rooms offer one small refrigerator. All dorms are equipped with heating and air conditioning, as well as cable TV.
Academic Rigor The classes at EKU are challenging, but not impossible. The professors care about how their students perform and work on a personal level with the students.
Tips for prospective students Eastern Kentucky University is a good choice for those interested in Criminal Justice and Firefighting majors, as it is one of the only schools in the area to offer those courses. The nursing program at EKU is also a good choice, since the school is located close to Richmond's hospital.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky University is located on a beautiful campus in a fairly quiet city. The professors are well educated and challenging, as well as hands on with the students. EKU offers many opportunities for those seeking jobs in Justice and Safety as well as Firefighting, unlike many other schools in Kentucky.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is GREAT! Around campus there are 27 call boxes that are set up with blue lights on top. If at any time you don't feel safe you can hit the button and the response time is 30-60 seconds. Not only does campus police respond, but the city police, and state police respond! They will come on foot, bike, and car as well.
What to do for fun There is many things to do for fun, on and off campus! On campus you can get involved in many groups and organizations that have fun outings. As far as off campus you can go out to Lake Reba and enjoy a day at the park. There's so much to do.
Food and Dining There are several food and dining places on campus. The maian campus eating place is located in the student center called Powell. There you will find food from a to z. Such as pasta, pizza, Mexican, sub sandwiches and much more. It's all you can eat and I give Powell a 10 as well. If you're on the run to class and need a quick meal you can choose the downstairs Powell, where they serve Chick Fil A, Quiznos sub, and a Mexican restaurant and a hamburger place too. There are two coffee shops on campus one being Starbucks, and then Java City. Also there is a bagel place as well.
Dorm Life I love the dorm life. The dorm life is where you meet most of your friends, it will be those who live on your floor and in your hall. I do suggest a roommate! The dorms at Eastern Kentucky University have been remodeled and are nice and very spacious!
Academic Rigor The work load in college is a lot more than high school. as far as papers, test, quizzes and other assignments. However, you prepare for the course load by taking some college prep classes while still in high school. Most of the times these courses are called AP classes that most high school juniors and seniors take. If you take an AP class while still in high school then you can earn a college credit for that class. It's important that you utilize all the facilities that are to offer on campus such as tutoring centers, and the library. It will help you be even more successful.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that you get all your information on time as far as housing so that you can be placed in the dorm of your choice. Don't be afraid to ask for help from your professors, because they are there to help YOU! At Eastern Kentucky University all the faculty and staff want to see you succeed and do well, and Eastern is the place to do just that!

Categories Comments What to do for fun Richmond, KY has a bowling alley, laser tag location, arcades, lots of restaurants, a movie theater and a variety of night life to meet the needs of college students. Most students find the most fun when tailgating for football games in the fall.
Food and Dining The Fresh Food Company, the main dining location, is located in the center of campus and is easily accessed. It offers many options but don't get too excited... After orientation days, the dining hall usually gets rid of their best food. Chick-Fil-A and other fast food is offered on the first floor beneath the Fresh Food Company. Other coffee, breakfast, and snack locations can be found in various campus buildings.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a great experience at EKU. The campus makes sure to place you in the dorm that is best suited for you. They create living learning communities that will match you to a floor based on your major and others who are interested in the same things. The dorms, although some small, are usually a clean, well-kept environment.
Academic Rigor The rigor of courses truly depends on the field which you pursue. Some general education courses seem like high school material while some harder courses in physics, chemistry, business, nursing, and math may present some trouble for even the best of students.
Tips for prospective students Use RateMyProfessors.com to hear tips from past students who had taken courses from a certain professor. It will really help you figure out which teachers use methods that are better suited to your learning styles and needs.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky provides a variety of classes that meet many students' needs. Enrollment is roughly 16,000 yet the environment is very relaxed and most people find the campus very quaint. It is a beautiful campus and it offers teachers who are willing to assist students in their learning.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Going to college can be a costly investment! EKU does well in offering somewhat lower tuition rates compared to other schools in the state. All in all, EKU would be a wise investment. One tip however is to assess the costs, and the rating of the program you wish enter. A program at one school may be better than another, and possibly worth the extra investment.
Food and Dining EKU's dining services and food are great! Upstairs Powell houses an all you can eat cafeteria. The food is fairly good, but can get old after a while. Downstairs Powell, however, houses a small convenient store as well as several small express restaurants such as Chik-Fil-A, Quiznos, Zoca, etc. There is also a Starbucks on campus as well.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great! You can meet a lot of great people and make many new friends by living on campus. In addition, the convenience of living near your class buildings can pay for itself, especially if you live far away from the school.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at EKU is most often determined by the program, some being more rigorous than others. But your interest level makes a big difference as well. Doing something you like can make the program you are in much smoother.
Tips for prospective students It is not uncommon for many students to change their major a lot; I did so myself. That being said, my advice is to get an idea of what you'd like to major in, and start taking your Gen. Ed. courses and a few of your Intro level major courses during your first year. This way, you can get a feel for the program, and if you decide to change, then those classes can count as electives.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky University is a great school with a wide array of degree options. You have the small town country feel, and a fairly compact campus, making everything fairly close to each other. Not too big, not too small, and many of the professors are great as well.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus For some reason people rub a statue's foot for good luck... while the history of the statue gives no indication of his foot having anything to do with luck.
Bang for the buck I was originally going to go to Bellarmine University, but the price here is MUCH cheaper than most colleges. 2 of my friends basically got a full ride from grants/scholarships.
Food and Dining There are quite a few places, but my friends and I usually only go to 2 of them. There's the upstairs powell building for buffet at certain times of the day and the downstairs that has a bunch of different places. The buffet is great (freshman 15 cough cough), and so is the Asian place downstairs. The only problem was that the Asian place ran out of food pretty fast since people kept eating there.
Dorm Life More often than not I'm out with my friends, so staying in the dorms aren't particularly fun. However, there seems to be quite a bit of partying in my floor, so I suppose it could be fun.
Academic Rigor I don't really have any homework other than reading yet.. though some of my friends do. I probably just got lucky.
Tips for prospective students Commonfilth as they call the Commonwealth building isn't as bad as people make it out to be... at least for me it wasn't. (16th floor)

Categories Comments Campus Safety I believe EKU is the safest campus in the world. we have these call boxes that you just have to press a button and the police will escort you any where at any time. plus there is many other programs like weather safety alerts and texts that you get. The wifi is even secured. My point, in a school that focuses on criminal justice and law enforcement degrees there is not even a doubt in my mind that this campus is the safest in Kentucky if not the world.
Greek Life There are two towers in campus just for fraternities, they are called the Greek towers EKU does a good job at Greek events too.
Clubs and Activities Chemistry Club Many others
Great for these types of students Forensic Chemistry Nursing Law Enforcement
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus From the New Science Building you can see a very extensive cemetery Also all around Richmond there are places like orange leaf that many people go to to hang out. There are fraternities around school there is Even two buildings just for the fraternities.
Bang for the buck EKU is not the cheapest school in Kentucky but it certainly gives you what you pay for. And you cant put a value on the raw experience you get form just going to this school, that does not including all the other experiences you go through like meeting your teachers or staying overnight at your dorm for the first time. Over all i think EKU is the greatest school i could have gone to.
What to do for fun There is so much to do at EKU. for example today i was walking to the book store and i passed by some people singing. there are also many clubs and activities around campus, some may even revolve around your major. I enjoy riding my bicycle around campus. EKU also has a very pretty library with plenty of books.
Food and Dining The food here is amazing and there is a starbucks, a buffey, and individual restaurants like orange leaf (Frozen yogurt) MCDs and many more. Also there are cookouts all over campus somedays.
Dorm Life I did not have a friend to go to college with but EKU does a surprisingly good matching system so i got a room mate who is livable to be around.
Academic Rigor Classes here are very easy going and so are the teachers. as long as you do your homework you will be fine.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We are always notified through email if anything is going on. Nothing serious has ever happened that I know of. It is considered a party school to some.
Greek Life We have 2 Greek Towers one for female sororities and one for male fraternities. There are many to choose from.
Clubs and Activities There are TONS of organizations/clubs to join on campus. Visitors are common. There is always something going on. Bake sales and the like. Fundraisers for organizations on campus and to help others like Breast Cancer awareness. I have made bird houses to go somewhere in Kentucky. There is a fitness center with a lot of exercise equipment. There's even a rock wall.
Great for these types of students Great for anyone.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have The Ravine. It is a Greek Style theater outside in the middle of campus. A tradition for students is touching the foot on a Daniel Boone statue in front of a residence hall, Burnam Hall. We also have an statue of a naked Apollo riding on two dolphins holding a space ship and space.
Bang for the buck It depends on how much effort you are willing to put forth. There are several tutor locations on campus that are free. In Powell, Wallace (for math), and the library.
What to do for fun Tech Commons is a fun place to study or just relax. There is always music playing along with a huge projector screen that is always playing comedy shows from Hulu. Not to mention the free popcorn. There are tutors named, Gurus who will help you in your classes.
Food and Dining We have a Chick-Fil-A, Subway, a Mexican place similar to Qdoba, an Asian restaurant, and other places to choose from like a convenient store on campus and a bagel joint called Einstein Bros.
Dorm Life I live at home.
Academic Rigor General Education classes are not very challenging if you learn how to be efficient in time management.
In three sentences I have only taken General Education classes so far. Some have been more challenging than others. It depends on your professor.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are games, parties, sporting events and many other things to do on campus for fun.
Food and Dining There is an amazing buffet located in Powell as well as fast food located downstairs and other on campus food places. The food is delicious.
Dorm Life Living on campus is a lot of fun, although the dorms aren't the nicest the people that live in them are and the convenience of living on campus definitely weigh out the negatives.
Academic Rigor Classes aren't insanely challenging but they test your knowledge. The resources that Eastern has also help students get through tough courses.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for a school to truly enjoy the college experience while learning more about yourself daily Eastern Kentucky University is the place to be. Helpful teachers and friendly people will make your college experience amazing.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky University is a serious institution with attitude. A friendly campus filled with helpful employees and fellow students makes going to school fun. The constant thrill of making new friends and having help with school work makes Eastern an amazing place to be.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very secure for such a large campus. They have phones on campus you can use to have security come and pick you up if your out alone. Also we have text alarts if something is going on.
Bang for the buck I haven't decided if I'm getting a bang for my mom's buck yet....
What to do for fun I like to hang out with my new friends and play ball. We go on the lawn and play or to the gym.
Food and Dining Don't buy the best meal plan because you probably won't use it and you get NO refund!!!! The food is VERY good.
Dorm Life Dorm life is NOTHING like home. Not the cleanset place I have ever been but I brought things from home to make it cozzy.
Academic Rigor I would tell any new student to get a tutor if they feel like they don't understand a subject, Don't be shy or ashamed. They have to know you need help in order to get it.
Tips for prospective students I would tell any new student to get involved, ask questions, and don't put off things that you can get done today.
In three sentences I love the school and the staff. The only thing I would warn new students about is that when you buy a meal plan your first year of college they will not refund you any money if you don't use it all. I lost 100 meals.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is man things to do for fun at this University, the student just has to get involved. Sporting events are always fun, but there is more than just sporting events to attend, there is a great theater on campus where they have concerts, and great performances by many artists.
Food and Dining Food and Dining at Eastern Kentucky University is great, the students have a variety of places to chose from, and most of the places are not very expensive. The school is bringing in more healthy type foods and that is an overall plus for any University.
Dorm Life Dorm life at Eastern Kentucky University is a great experience for Freshman, it is a secured way of living while on campus and gives new students the chance to meet new people. I would recommend every Freshman to have the chance to experience dorm living for their first year of college.
Academic Rigor The college has a great Academic standing policy, if you work with your adviser through out each semester, you can stay on track and watch your progress. It is up to the student in how they want to succeed in this college and their academic standing.
Tips for prospective students Future students should prepare themselves for a life as a college student. It should be fun and enjoyable, think about what you want to do in life before attending, so you can declare a major early on.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky University is a great school and is overlooked by many students. This college offers many great degrees, and its up to the student in how they succeed during their time here. I highly recommend this school.

Bang for the buck Their online-only Bachelor's degrees are perfect for my schedule and current life-style. I'm an Active Duty service-member and EKU was the only school that offered my degree in a completely online program. The tuition is a bit elevated for their online classes, but it's worth it.
Food and Dining I am an out-of-state online-only student; I buy my own food.
Dorm Life I am an out-of-state online-only student; I don't live in the dorms.
Academic Rigor The Online Courses require more discipline than the campus courses, so be diligent.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to apply early and hound your advisers.
In three sentences Plenty of programs to suit everyone's needs.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The police are always roaming around campus. There are also several call boxes located in random parts of campus. The police are very serious about their job and will come to you within three minutes of where ever you are. You must swipe a card in order to get into a lot of places so that keeps intruders from being able to sneak in as well.
Greek Life I'm not a part of Greek Life, but many of my friends are. From what I can tell, they seem to keep them relatively busy and sometimes it can be hard to balance that with their grades. However, it seems really fun and they get to go on educational trips sometimes. Also, it helps out in the long run by gaining connections like that.
Clubs and Activities There's so many groups and activities, especially during the Fall semester.
Great for these types of students The campus is extremely diverse. Anyone with any particular hobby would be able to fit in with a lot of people. I feel like we're a pretty accepting campus. There's several groups and clubs who are open-minded.
Bang for the buck Like I previously stated, EKU isn't that costly of a school. However, the books and the meal plan is what takes a lot of students down. I recommend getting a job on campus if possible and make sure that you are able to get lower hours, but just enough to pay for the essentials.
What to do for fun There's a lot to do at EKU during the weekdays, many clubs and frets set up different events in order to publicize their organizations. Sometimes you can participate for free stuff and get a free meal or two out of it too. Everyone loves the ravine because it's usually so beautiful during the warmer seasons so they go there and hang out to take a break from classes. Some clubs even host a video game night which a lot of people attend.
Food and Dining The dining at Eastern honestly isn't that bad on the weekdays. During the weekends however, is a different story. The breakfast is always nice, they make bacon, eggs, pancakes, french toast, etc. You can even make your own omelette. However, I feel like because most of the students either go out of town or back home during the weekend they do not try as hard. Plus, they have a roach problem. Other than that though, the food usually taste great and there's a lot to choose from on campus. There's Subway, a Chinese Restaurant, a Mexican Place, a Starbucks, and a lot of other locations to fit one's fancy.
Dorm Life I love dorm life because there's always so many programs and events going on inside campus. I believe that if one were to live in an apartment off campus that they would probably miss out on getting to know a lot of new people. The dorms are also usually very safe and make me feel secure, beside the fact that it's really hard to find a parking spot. When that happens, sometimes one has to walk by themselves in the dark.
Academic Rigor The Noel Studio is one of the places that saved me in some of my classes. The Noel Studio is located in the library and its purpose is to help students with essays and tutor them in various subjects. There's always some kind of club on campus too in order to help struggling students. Most of the time professors are understanding enough to explain and give students individual attention outside of class.
Tips for prospective students I recommend that prospective students should look on ratemyprofessor.com before signing up for any classes, it can be very helpful. I think that they should get into a club around their sophomore year. It's not a very costly school, but I recommend earning any types of scholarships or grants as possible, the books prices can be bothersome.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky has a beautiful campus. Usually, the school is consisted with many understanding professors who will work with you. Lastly, the people who attend are very diverse, no one would have any problems making friends!

What to do for fun tailgate at EKU football games. EKU hockey games are always a blast!
Food and Dining The New Science building and the Stratton building both have affordable delicious food. As for off campus, Jackson's restaurant has some of the best home cooked food.
Dorm Life Fun! I would not have met half of my current friends if it weren't for staying in the dorms. Although the living conditions are not always ideal I would definitely recommend living in the dorms.
Academic Rigor EKU has definitely challenged me academically and I was a straight A student in high school, but the professors I have had have made it easy to learn. Students around you are eager to help you learn the tips and tricks you will need to make it through college.
Tips for prospective students Schedule your classes as early as possible. Don't drive to class unless you absolutely have to. Go out places with people you trust.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus is safe. however never consider it so safe that you let your guard down. their will always be bad dishonest people in the world.
What to do for fun I love to go hiking. the pinnacles are not too far from campus. Make friends and hang out in powell their is always something you can find to do there. for example cards, pin ball, pool tables, tv, darts, and texas hold em nutriments. Go work out at the gym your paying for it mid as well use it. their are also plenty of pools so go for a swim. all of this is free!
Food and Dining They have a great selection in Powell. they are also near plenty of fast food places and restaurants.
Dorm Life I do not live in a dorm but my friends do and they like it.
Academic Rigor It just depends on the student and the courses you choose to take.
Tips for prospective students My recommendation is that every student become very familiar with Degree Works. That is the name of the software that will help every student plan the classes required for their major. DO NOT LET THE ADVISERS PLAN YOUR CLASSES FOR YOU!!! Check on your own what classes you need to graduate and only take those classes! if you go into their office with a list of classes you plan on taking then they can better help you with out you getting screwed in the end. I have had AT LEAST 10 of my friends have to go at least a semester longer than attended because they depended on the advisers to schedule all their classes for them. At the beginning take as a full load of classes meaning 18 total hrs do not only take the minimum 12 to be a full time student. Their will always be at least one class you fail or you drop trust me! I graduated high school with a 4.5. i have been there done that! i know what i am talking about!!! trust me!! other than that eku is a great college. it has small classes and most of the time great professors. :) have a blessed day!
In three sentences EKU is a safe up beat small college. My only complaint is the advisers don't do their job. It is almost like they try to trick you into graduating later than planned.

What to do for fun I like to hang out with my friends at my dorm. We really don't need to leave campus to find something to do.
Food and Dining The food is great. There is a wide variety and places to go to eat. I like using my flex dollars to get the food items I want.
Dorm Life I really like the dorm I live in now. I've had good roommates and have been pretty satisfied with dorm living.
Academic Rigor I had to adjust to college especially my first semester, but once I settled in and got used to my teachers and assignments, I felt much better. The classes I've taken are challenging and I have to work at my grades.
Tips for prospective students Check out housing and stay where you think you'd be most comfortable.

Categories Comments Food and Dining Get a meal plan as soon as you can if you are living on campus because going out to eat is not always the best option if you want to have money for other stuff.
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms my first semester and after that I found a house with a few of my friends and I now live off campus. This is a much better option if you don't like having to deal with noise, people, and want a cheaper option. I like being able to study without having to find a place all the way across campus away from the noise. If you get a place with friends rent is cheaper as well and you don't have to leave on weekends to find something to do.
Academic Rigor Classes are easy as long as you do the homework and go to classes. Get to know your professors and class mates this will help you out later.
Tips for prospective students Apply early If you are looking at living on campus apply early so you can be sure you will get the dorm you want and the roommate you want If you have plans to have a job look into jobs on the campus and off the campus Get your parking pass ASAP if you are driving to and from school

Categories Comments Campus Safety I always feel safe on campus and comfortable walking at night. There are always on campus officers and panic buttons are placed throughout campus that one could press if there was an emergency.
Greek Life Since I'm still in high school I didn't rush but I plan on rushing my fall semester. I haven't talked to many sorority girls; however some have approached me and are very nice.
Clubs and Activities I get emailed every week on a list of activities that are happening on campus that week. This includes public speakers to simple social gatherings. Eastern has a new building, the Center for the Arts; which hosts major events and is great for the culture in the city of Richmond.
Great for these types of students EKU is a diverse campus and is great for people seeking a higher level of education. EKU also has an amazing nursing program, so nursing students should definitely look into the program.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a statue of Daniel Boone, students kiss his golden toe for good luck before games, exams, etc.
Bang for the buck EKU is an underrated school with great programs and a decent tuition.
What to do for fun EKU has a beautiful campus with rich history, but has modern twists. In Downstairs Powell, if you want to chill or be productive there is a room called Tech Commons. It has EKU Gurus (free tutoring), Hulu on a projector, couches, free popcorn, computers, printers, group monitors, and even comfortable seating. Noel Studio in the Crabbe library is brand new with new technology and helpful resources, yet with a fun, colorful, contemporary environment.
Food and Dining Eastern has a good selection of easily accessible dining options. Downstairs Powell has a couple chain restaurants (that are open till 2 A.M.) and a tiny shop (that is overpriced). Upstairs Powell has a buffet with plenty of choices for diners.
Dorm Life I don't live in a dorm, because I'm still in high school. Though, my brother does dorm in Martin Hall. It isn't the best quality-wise, but he says he doesn't mind it. I hear a lot of stories about different dorms on campus that have problems down to water temperature in the showers. EKU is building new dorms by the New Science Building; however, to my conclusion, the current buildings are out of date.
Academic Rigor I have had to develop study habits more than my honors courses at my high school. I spend at least 5 hours a week in the library, but I have maintained higher than a 3.6 at Eastern; however, it does take effort.
Tips for prospective students Always go to class, even if it's a lecture and they don't take attendance. Make sure you a prepared and organized. Go to the library, it's a great place to stay focused and remove yourself from distractions. Before classes start, go to your buildings and walk the route you are going to take to make sure you have enough time to get to class on time.
In three sentences I am a full-time student at Eastern and a senior and Madison Central High School; Eastern is an underrated school and the campus is beautiful. I feel safe on campus and comfortable walking to my classes. Eastern is the perfect size for me and I plan on attending here for the remainder of my college career.

Categories Comments Campus Safety EKU is an incredibly safe campus. I got a few emails from campus safety saying that someone had been attacked only to get an email a day later saying that the attack had been made up for various reasons (one girl wanted to transfer and her parents wouldn't let her). The worst thing to happen while I was there, was that someone was flashing people; the flasher was caught within a week.
Greek Life I did not participate in Greek Life but there seem to be lots of options.
Clubs and Activities There seems to be no end to the clubs and activities that students can be involved in. I don't think I could even list 1/8 of them.
Great for these types of students Students who want a small class size. This was one of the big deciding factors for me in choosing EKU and I loved it. Even in my intro algebra class I was only in a class of 40 or so people, and that was my biggest class. Most classes that I took had fewer than 20 people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a statue of Daniel Boone on campus and you will often see students rubbing his toe for good luck. In fact, his toe is very shiny and smooth from all the rubbing. I was in the marching band and we marched past the statue single file so that everyone could rub his toe before the game.
Bang for the buck I believe that EKU has a lot of bang for the buck. It is among the nations top rated colleges for forensics and criminal justice. It is less expensive than some other state schools and I believe that the education I received was on par with what I would have received elsewhere.
What to do for fun EKU is a suitcase school, so most people go home on weekends and campus is pretty quiet. Richmond has a great shopping center with awesome restaurants and a nice new movie theater. Lake Reba is a short drive and has picnic areas, walking trails, and lakeside fun. The Center for the Arts puts on great shows and often offer discounted tickets to students. Lexington is also a short drive away and offers lots of activities.
Food and Dining The food court has made a ton of changes lately for the better. They added a JUMP Asian Express that I love! The cafeteria also has pretty good food most days and it's an all you can eat buffet so you can make a meal out of odds and ends when they don't have anything you like. The cafeteria makes a really great breakfast!
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms for 4 years because my scholarship covered it. I found the environment safe but a bit stifling. The rules about things that you can and cannot have are changed from year to year and by the end of my fourth year I was very tired of being told that I couldn't have a certain type of lamp or that I couldn't cover more than a certain amount of my walls. With that being said, the dorms are very safe in that each resident has a fob that allows them access to their dorm and people who do not live in the dorm cannot enter without being accompanied by a resident.
Academic Rigor This depends on the course, the department, and the professor. I had a very easy professor for my communications class but my roommate ended up with a more challenging professor. I would say that it is rigorous but not overly so.
Tips for prospective students My tip is to really get to know your professors and advisers. EKU is a pretty small school so it is easy to do this and they often pass on opportunities that they hear about. Without the help of my adviser I never would have found the amazing study abroad experience that I had. I also had professors tell me about jobs they thought I would be great for.
In three sentences Eastern Kentucky University is a great school. I graduated in May 2012 and I am now going back for my second bachelor's degree from them. I love the opportunities afforded by EKU that come along with a small college atmosphere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Our school is known for our criminal justice and safety program so you will always be safe here. We have the campus police, state police, county police; what more safety could you ask for. At night, you can call for an escort if needed and they have campus wide text messages or email to notify the students about dangerous situations.
Greek Life It may not be for everyone but its like having a family away from home.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have the Daniel Boone statue that students rub his left boot for good luck (:
What to do for fun At EKU, you can never get bored. There is always something going on from basketball games to intramural sports. There is a club for any and everybody so I am in a couple clubs to match with my major and some just for personal interest. There are many activities off campus like Bowling, the Movies, shopping and eating of course.
Food and Dining The food is good. I mean it might not be as good as the home cooked meals some might be used to but, it our chefs know what they are doing. You will never go hungry, there are numerous eating facilities across campus which become very convenient. The hours are nice, even if you wanted a midnight snack our food court is open until 2am.
Dorm Life The residence halls here are good. They have nice storage areas for your items and each come with a desk for homework areas. Something that I found helpful is that they have a mini refrigerator in each room so you do not have to buy your own. The hall(s) are quite when need be, the people are great.
Academic Rigor There are numerous places on campus where you can get helped if you need it. You just have to be brave enough to ask for the help, they are waiting with open hands. Yes, the work is challenging in some courses but its worth it in the end. Do your best!
Tips for prospective students There is so many opportunities offered on campus, do not be afraid to take them. Also, know that the professors are here for you and they are willing to help - they want you to succeed. Be open to diversity, not just the color of ones skin but his/her ideas as well. Lastly, get out of your comfort zone. Do something that you wouldn't normally do - find yourself!
In three sentences I strongly believe that Eastern is unbelievable! I have learned so much while attending this university and my thirst for knowledge has expanded. The students, professors, and even the campus atmosphere is very welcoming.
