Great for these types of students

This college is good for students who learn better in a smaller environment and class sizes.

    Tips for prospective students

Some advice that I have is to come and visit the campus before you make any decisions and see if you like it because if you decide to attend, you are going to be living here.

    Bang for the buck

I thought that coming to a private college would cost a lot of money but there are so many scholarships to help you pay for your tuition. You just have to apply for them. I got a scholarship for living in Illinois and another one for getting good grades in high school. I found that Edgewood College helped me out more with my tuition than a larger public college that I was looking at.

    Am enjoying being here

I love that everything is so close. You get more one on one time with the professors and get to know a lot of new people. I have a lot of the same people in my classes which is really nice. There is always something going on around campus and many clubs to join. Also, for being a student at Edgewood, you can get free boat rentals.

    Am learning a lot

The classes that I'm in are not as hard as I thought they were going to be. The classes aren't just all lecture, they use power points and talk about the topics.

Great for these types of students

All types! Edgewood is very good at diversifying students. You get to meet an array of people with different backgrounds and learn about other cultures! The staff and students are friendly and amazingly helpful. I LOVE it here!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you visit the campus first. Although I am in love with it, it is more of a campus that you either love of hate. It's pretty close-knit, you will get to know everyone. I would also suggest Regina hall to all you girls, it is really nice to have your own room!

    Bang for the buck

Edgewood seems like an impossible school at first, but then you apply and realize that they give out a massive amount of scholarships! Make sure you apply for financial aid, because you will definitely get some assistance at Edgewood!

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy being close to my classes (no half hour walks to class for me!) and everywhere else I need to go. The food is not typical college food, it's delicious! And if you're hungry late at night, Wingra is open until 10pm!

    Am learning a lot

Most of the classes you take as a freshman are all the basics. I thought I would be super bored, but I am actually learning things in classes like Forum and Logic that I never thought I would!

    Awesome!

    Clubs and Activities

There is a variety of club and activities to join in on. You will not be bored and there is club for everyone.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is steep, but they offer tons of scholarships and financial aid.

    What to do for fun

Madison is a great town there is plenty to do. There is a free zoo in walking distance and tons of nature trails around the campus. There also is great nightlife in Madison.

    Food and Dining

The food is average like any other school food. There is two places to eat. One is a cafe style and the other has a grille station and ala carte.

    Dorm Life

Definitely try to get into Dominican or Stevie as a freshman! Regina is nice if you want a quite room to yourself, but not a lot of action goes on.

    Academic Rigor

The classes can be difficult depending on your professor and how well you try.

    Tips for prospective students

Prepare to study. Try to get in habit of studying and reading in high school it will be very beneficial.

    In three sentences

Edgewood is a great school if you want to live in a larger city, but yet attend a small school. The class sizes are smaller, but the professors take the time to make sure every student succeeds. The campus is beautiful and the atmosphere is great for college students.

    What to do for fun

There is a boardwalk behind the school that boarders Lake Wingra. Edgewood provides free kayaks and canoes for students to enjoy fun summer activities. Also, Edgewood is five minutes from downtown Madison where you can enjoy lots of shopping, dining and site seeing.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining are very good here. There are two eating facilities, Wingra and Phil's, that provide food that is prepped personally for you, the way you like it. There is a variety of food selections, healthy and greasy, for everyone's liking. The drink selection is also phenomenal!

    Dorm Life

I lived in a single, all girls, dorm. At first, I thought I was going to hate it but it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. The doubles and triples and co-ed dorms at Edgewood College also produced great experiences among my peers. I have experienced and heard nothing but good things about the sanitation and layout of the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Edgewood College provides a vast amount of classes at different levels that challenges students as they strive to find their interests and major. Professors works with the students to help them achieve rather than against them, making them struggle to get by.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Live in the dorms to enhance your college experience. 2. Be open to making new friends that you otherwise wouldn't have befriended in high school. 3. You pay for your education so make the most out of it. 4. College is a fresh start, forget your stereotypes and prejudices, become the best person you possibly can.

    In three sentences

Edgewood College is perfect for students that want to enjoy a big city life while attending a small school. The school is expensive but they do a good job at providing sufficient financial aid to make it possible for students to attend that otherwise wouldn't be able to, like myself. Overall, the education is great and the people are warm and welcoming.

Great for these types of students

Everyone. It's especially wonderful for those who need smaller class sizes to work better. The staff are very accommodating and understanding. I promise you will get an education here.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour, sit in on a class and really get a feel for Edgewood. It's not for everyone, since it really is a small community. Make sure your tour guide takes you into Marshall Residence Hall - it's the best kept secret on Campus!

    Bang for the buck

It's expensive, there's no doubt about that. But they practically throw money at you, so you'll be able to afford going here. You get a lot with your tuition, and you're paying just a little bit more than you would to go to UW Madison, where you don't get some of the benefits you do here. Talk to your financial advisor about student employment opportunities on campus, scholarships and grants you can apply for and any other aid you can get.

    Am enjoying being here

Being in the small community inside a big city is great. I know that the capitol/State Street is only a bus ride away if I want to enjoy the city life. If not, I can stay on campus in my dorm. They always have lots of activities going on here too. It's never boring and the people are great. You're guaranteed to have a fun time!

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes here are great. The teachers actually care about you and your education! The one on one attention is something you wont find in a larger school. For a small campus, they have plenty of class choices and limitless majors and minors.

Edgewood is kind of expensive but you have a lot of opportunities for scholarships.

the campus safety office is extremely proactive about alerting students to potential safety issues and what they plan to do about it via email.

    Greek Life

pretty sure greek life does not exist at edgewood.

    Clubs and Activities

i am hispanic and am a member of the association for latino students (alas) and there are a number of other clubs and activities for students of any ethnic or social background.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

none which i can think of, but this does not mean there are not any.

    Bang for the buck

edgewood is a smaller and private institution so naturally tuition is more expensive than a public university. but because of this students receive more attention from professors, and also it has been my experience that teachers will assign books that are in general very cheap but loaded with information.

    What to do for fun

edgewood cab is the student social group that has events planned for nearly every week throughout a semster.

    Food and Dining

there are 2 main cafeteria areas on the campus, there are also many restaurants and a grocery a few blocks walking distance from the campus.

    Campus Safety

The Edgewood campus is very dark because of lighting requirements on Lake Wingra, which makes managing safety a significant challenge. There is also a significant walk/ride from downtown. Monroe street is notorious for pedestrian/car accidents, and most drivers ignore the speed limit in front of the college. There is no stoplight on the corner of Monroe and Edgewood, which makes left-turns nearly impossible. Otherwise, safety is fantastic in the dorms and classrooms.

    Clubs and Activities

Student activities are limited, so dorm residents must be proactive at organizing events.

Great for these types of students

Shy students can survive at Edgewood.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are secret spots in the woods.

    Bang for the buck

Extremely overpriced. Do not expect to get any living expenses from your financial aid, tuition will consume all of it and then some. If one has decent high-school grades, it is possible to apply for financial aid scholarships, but after leaving studies or dropping to half-time for any reason, they will be revoked.

    What to do for fun

Expect to leave campus for entertainment. Because the campus is dry, there are generally only college-approved dorm parties. Most college students of age crawl bars on the weekend, others attend the diverse music and art venues, and dine on native fare. Edgewood is right on the Arboretum and lake Wingra, so fishing, hiking, biking, running or walking is easily accessible.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining was poor the year Phil Hansen left. This rating is discluding the new improvements to the dining facilities.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is limited, and there are many students that leave campus on the weekends. Because many students are friends before arriving at campus, life at Edgewood can be clique-ish. Expect to encounter the full gamut of student personalities, this is a liberal-arts college after all. Everything is within 1/4 mile, which is beneficial during adverse weather. There are facilities to exercise, and printing is probably still free, so take advantage of it or regret it later - it is included in your tuition. Night persons and those that need to spend all-nighters in the library or facilities are out of luck and must travel downtown to the UW campus after 10pm - most of the buildings close at midnight.

    Academic Rigor

Edgewood will challenge most students, and is very supportive of those that are not masters of their general-ed requirements. Most of the staff are practicing professionals in their fields, and tenure is challenging for long-term professors. Beware of new faculty, because there is a high degree of turnover.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit both the University and Edgewood's campuses before making your decision. Edgewood is a commuter college, so prepare to learn bus routes, bike trails, rent parking and buy a permit, or pay gouged-out rental prices for apartments downtown within walking/shuttle distance. Campus visit day is very biased, so visit campus on a regular day. A new policy requires you to live on campus for your Freshman year, at least, so prepare for dorm life on campus.

    In three sentences

Edgewood College is a small campus on the edge of the University of Wisconsin in downtown Madison. Edgewood College is a private liberal-arts college that teaches with the Dominican Values in mind. Edgewood is very supportive of students looking for a smaller college with access to the University of Wisconsin's resources.

Madison is a great city to live in and there is never a dull moment. There is music, sports, and recreation to engage in anywhere within the city limits. There are plenty of parks and bike trails for the outdoorsy person.

    Food and Dining

Edgewood tries to accommodate all eating habits and food preferences. They offer gluten free alternatives and a variety of no meat alternatives as well.

    Dorm Life

My freshman year I lived in an all girls dorm and it was quite dramatic. However, I was able to live in an on campus apartment for my sophomore and junior year and I really enjoyed the experience.

    Academic Rigor

You can make your education as rigorous or simple as you want. If you want to learn as much as you can and push yourself to achieve greatness while attending college, the faculty supports you in your endeavors.

    Tips for prospective students

If you dream big and have a strong relationship with the faculty at Edgewood they will help you to achieve whatever you set out to do, whether that means the honors program, an intense internship, or graduate school. Get to know your faculty and they will help you achieve all of your goals for college.

    In three sentences

The faculty actively encourages growth and learning beyond the classroom. There is an opportunity to learn something about almost anything in a small sized classroom. This school has numerous leadership opportunities in and out of the classroom to help build your resume.

    Academic Rigor

Like most school the academic difficulty varies on your major what what courses you end up taking. Overall you have to put a lot of effort into your schoolwork but if you have any questions on the assignments the professors welcome you to contact them if you have any questions or concern about an assignment or the class. There is also a free student run writing center that will help with any paper you need help on.

There is a hill that leads up to one of the dorms, Dominican, where an improve group likes to meet just for fun. It is always at the most random times but it's so much fun! Also, the bike path behind the school goes around the lake and to the zoo, which is beautiful every time of the year.

    What to do for fun

Edgewood never runs out of activities for its students to do. You receive weekly emails of what the week will hold. There is never nothing to do.

    Campus Safety

Edgewood is tucked back in a very safe corner of Madison and security is on duty 24/7. There is an Edgewood College Sade Shuttle that provides students whom seek a good time a safe and efficient way to return to their rooms on weekend nights. It is a dry campus and the Eagle Alert System allows students to be aware of security threats or even weather alerts.

    Greek Life

NONE. Frats are not allowed at Edgewood College.

    Clubs and Activities

Creating clubs and activities is easy at Edgewood because of the smaller campus size. There are WAY too many clubs and activities that happen at school to list in this application.

Great for these types of students

Students who are independent but don't enjoy the HUGE campus setting.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The COR system at Edgewood College is a very important and unique system for their Dominican values. The COR system provides students with a class that assists in advising in education, money, and more importantly, life in the community.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private college, Edgewood College is a little bit on the expensive side. However, it's also one of the cheaper of the private schools in Wisconsin. They love to give out grants and scholarships and allow their students to have numerous options for payment during the semester. It's manageable but you still need quite a bit of money to stay secure.

    What to do for fun

There are always things to do at Edgewood! There are events put on by RLAB and other student organizations that allow the academic week to be a little less stressful. The very first couple of weeks, you have to be VERY antisocial to not have fun at Edgewood College!

    Food and Dining

For a college, dining services Phil's Dining and Wingra Caf©, are amazing! Their service is efficient and of top quality. For the most part, there is a healthy array of food options, but that's up to the student if they want the healthy life style. The eating spaces are comfortable and give a very friendly environment.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is amazing if you take advantage of your social life. Too often there are students who don't like to go out of their comfort zone and decide to lock themselves in their dorm rooms. At Edgewood, there are so many nice people that encourage people to get out and have fun. I gave it a 4 star ranking because a lot of students like to go home during the weekends making the weekends slow and sometimes boring. However, this will make it easier for studying!

    Academic Rigor

Edgewood is manageable but challenges their students to work as hard as they can. There are so many resources for students to take advantage of! If students fail, they had to try really hard to do so.

    Tips for prospective students

Edgewood is on Monroe street which has a bunch of restaurants and little shops. Also, Edgewood is down the street from Camp Randal, where the UW Madison Badger football team plays. Being downtown Madison, there is a lot to do. Lots of restaurants, shops, concerts, sporting events and bars! Edgewood is also located near on the edge of Lake Wingra!

    Food and Dining

You have two options: Phil's and Wingra Caf©. Phi'ls has more options than Wingra but both are pretty good regardless. We also just got a Starbucks in Wingra Caf©!!!

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms is a great way to meet people and make new friends. Some dorms are more social than others but since it is a small campus in general, its not bad if you don't get the dorm you put for your first preference. Dorms are also pretty small but that's pretty normal.

    Academic Rigor

If you put in the time and effort into your classes you shouldn't get anything less than a B (in my experience). Stay organized, ask questions, go to reviews, come to class and you should do just fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know people in your classes and build relationships with your professors! They all want to help you in any way that they can. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there!! Also, get organized! I couldn't survive without my planner!

    In three sentences
