    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest coming to a community college before going to a university because you will get more one-on-one attention and have smaller classes and it will help you adjust to college life at the beginning. It is also cheaper by taking your basics that will transfer to your choice of university.

    Bang for the buck

Its a great place where you can still learn exactly what you need to learn, sometimes more, than sending thousands of dollars for your basics.

    Am enjoying being here

Its a great little community, that feels more like a family. Everyone is very helpful and you will feel welcomed from the very first step in the door.

    Am learning a lot

It is a great place to start. The educators are very knowledgable and I feel that I have gotten a lot out of the classes I have taken thus far.

    Campus Safety

The College has its own police department which is always rounding around the college parking and buildings. In the years that I have attended this college I have not had any problems regarding this. I feel safe, even when I take night classes.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities going on during the semesters. They have the Honors Program, SGA (Student Government Association), Phi Theta Kappa club and many activities. Some activities promote physical health, like ‘Race for the Cure,’ and some are to help the least fortunate like food donations. Other activities are for students, for example Art Festivals and Art exhibitions. These are competition among students; the winner either gets money, a lap tops, an iPad etc.

Great for these types of students

Once again it is great for those students who are not eligible for financial aid, and have to pay full price for the tuition. It offers payment plans and classes are very affordable. It is also great for those who want to get the basics out of the way as fast as they can, and not have too much pressure from teachers. Most of the teachers in this College are very flexible with the students and very understanding.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some traditions the College has are free food for students on special holidays. Also some vendors come to the college, set-up and sell many different things. They sell Mexican candy, jewelry, and many other things. The blood donations also set up every semester in all the campuses and promote blood donations. (Teachers tend to give extra-credit points to those who donate)

    Bang for the buck

Much cheaper than a University, if you are a student who does not get any financial help this is the best option for you. Get your basics out of the way as fast as you can, and at an affordable price. In no time you can obtain a Certification or Associates degree and transfer the hours completed to the University of your choice! Also the parking sticker is 25 dollars for one year, that is very affordable.

    What to do for fun

There are many different clubs to join. There is the SGA which stands for Student Government Association, for those who are interested in laws. There is the Cross-Country club, and many more sports to join for those who are athletes. They have a lot of events that go on throughout the semester. You can check-it out at their home page www.epcc.edu

    Food and Dining

Every location has a cafeteria inside, and each of them offers different types of food. Some have subway, Mexican food, even coffee shops. It’s not the greatest food but there are many restaurants available outside of the college that are very close.

    Dorm Life

They do not offer dormitories since it’s a community college and have more than 3 locations available throughout the city of El Paso. This means you can stay home, and have no need to pay a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor of this institution is at a reasonable level. Most of the teachers understand there are responsibilities outside of school and work with you on due-dates of assignments. There are also teachers that challenge their students and expect for them to put 100 % to the class. It is challenging but not impossible.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are thinking of attending college in the future El Paso Community College would be a place where you might want to start. It has more than three different locations, and it provide classes with a small amount of students. This is in advantage to have 1-to-1 student-teacher time. This is the place where you can get all the basics out of the way, and transfer the hours to the University of your choice. Also the price of tuition is much smaller than that of a University.

    In three sentences

El Paso Community College is the best place to start. It is a great place to start if you are a student who does not qualify for financial aid. It offers many different associates degrees, and you can obtain it in two years or less.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are constant additions being added to the different communtiy schools. One can notice the different picnic tables and chairs under some type of shade.

The schools have different foods for all. From delicious mexican restraunts to your always and good subway sandwiches.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunaletly there are no dorms at this school, but it is surrounded by many different price ranged appartments.

    Academic Rigor

EPCC is very rigorous. I believe it is due to the rigor professor hiring process.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to go the school before your start date to look for your classes. This way you wont look lost.

    In three sentences

El Paso Community College is truly the best place to start. The diverse population of this school helps the learning process to be more easy and comfortable. The staff and advisors really try to understand your problems and situations in order to come up with the best solution.

Great for Dual Credit students, students who wish an easier transition from High School to College, or even those who are returning after many years of no school.

    Tips for prospective students

Complete your application and placement tests as soon as possible. Be prepared to deal with teachers and students with different personalities and beliefs from you.

    Bang for the buck

Great for these types of students

This school is excellent for students who want an idea of what college life is like. First time college students: this is a great way to learn study habits, how to juggle school and work, and how to talk to your teachers. This school is also great for those students who have families and want to further their education. EPCC is quite flexible with schedules. El Paso Community College slogan: The Best Place to Start.

    Tips for prospective students

If you do plan to attend EPCC, I strongly suggest getting involved and always check your e-mail. Because of my e-mail, I applied for an internship to go to Salzburg, Austria and got the it! You never know what your e-mail can offer.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is great here. It's reasonable. Paying $1,000 for 4 classes isn't that bad. It's rather impressive.

    Am enjoying being here

I really love the student involvement. I am greatly involved in my school and because of this, my advisor offered me a job! Also, most of these organizations here offer stipends and more. Everything has it's own way of contributing to your education as well as your resume.

    Am learning a lot

It's great! The smaller class sizes here allow much student-teacher interaction. Teachers are able to joke around with students and still keep us on task. They are always available! Now it's not easy either, you still have to work for your grade. You want an A? Prove it!

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for students to start off in because of there earlier high school college programs, and it a great place for students who either are transferring, continuing education or to get your basics done because it goes at your pace and you learn everything in your own time.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospective students is to do everything when enrolling at the right time, and early if possible. Things can get quite confusing if you don't do things in a timely manner. And make sure to always have the proper documents you need and have everything organized for the an easier enrolling experience.

    Bang for the buck

I'm so glad that I can afford coming here and that different aid programs are available to help with the expenses accumulated in college.

There are so many different clubs and student activities on campus. The student governement holds all sorts of special events at the campus that sometimes allow the student to win cool prizes like a Nook or a Kindle. We can also play pool and foosball in the main building.

    Food and Dining

There is a lady who cooks for the school, her name is Conchita! She has the best food you could possibly imagine. It might be a bit pricey at times, but worth every penny. There are also vending machines with healthy snack and plenty of beverage vending machines.

    Dorm Life

EPCC does not have dorms on campus because everyone lives so close to it anyway, it's just easy to get to.

    Academic Rigor

There are teachers who try to get you excited about the course your taking and they lecture as though their life depended on it! The rigor is not so hard, but at times very tedious. To pass most of the classes you have to make sure you study and if your teacher gives you study reviews, then you will need them.

    Tips for prospective students

You should always register for classes as soon as registration begins because if you wait last minute, you might not get the classes you need. The library is one of the best spots to study because its spacious and really quiet. Getting to school early is always better if you want to find close parking.

    In three sentences

The campus is small, so it's easy to get to all of my classes on time. There are so many different courses and a great advisor team to help me chose which ones are best for me. All of my teachers are ambitious and it's easy for me to follow along in class.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

The teachers are flexible enough to keep it fair, but not overly flexible to where nothing is being learned. The classes go at a reasonable pace and teachers make sure material is being understood. El Paso Community College will give all students a great academic challenge.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should try to register several months in advanced to avoid registering for classes late. The classes will fill up quick so registering early is priority.

    What to do for fun

Outside of school I do a lot of activities. On campus there is always some kind of activity that they are promoting. Sometimes they give out free food, have blood drives, and set up booths for selling random things.

    Food and Dining

There are a couple of subways, and other food stands. Nothing big because they are all small schools.

Smaller campuses make it easier for security sweeps.

    Greek Life

    Clubs and Activities

I've only heard of the clubs, I haven't had time to join any.

Great for these types of students

Great for people that aren't as financially privileged, have work, have kids, or all of the above. Or for people that are just plain lazy. They have several campuses that offer the same class at many hours of the day, including early morning and late night.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't really know of any.

    Bang for the buck

You're whole semester at EPCC will cost almost as much as a single class plus parking at the university.

    What to do for fun

At school, I'm not exactly sure. I'm pretty busy having an almost 2 year old and work as well.

    Food and Dining

At the campus i go to, it's terrible, but the surrounding area has plenty to offer.

    Dorm Life

No dorms, mostly kids you went to highschool with will be there.

    Academic Rigor

I'd say academically, its fairly easy. Classrooms are small, which provide an easier student-teacher relationship, which means more help for things you don't understand. A few classes that could be considered difficult at a university are actually split up into two classes like pre-calculus.

    Tips for prospective students

Take your hardest classes in the summer. The materials you learned during the week is what you'll be tested on at the end of the week. That way there isn't a large gap, nor other classes to interfere with memory recall.

    In three sentences

EPCC would probably be best described by it's motto: Best place to start. It's cheap, it's easy to enroll, and they admit students on the understanding that we all probably want to transfer out to at least a 4 year college. I should've started their sooner.

    Campus Safety

There is a campus police force but theres not much to worry about except for getting a ticket for being parked in the wrong area.

    Greek Life

Purely academic the greek life is more like being in a chess club than a family so there are no sororities or fraternity's

    Clubs and Activities

There are flyers posted at different times of the year pertaining to clubs but to be honest its a little hard to find them and get involved.

Great for these types of students

If you are drivien and commited to get out of college at your own pace this is the place for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The transmountain campus has an excersize track that goes all around the campus which is pretty fun to do with a friend and a littl hard to find the beginning of but its definiteley a not so well known or visited area. But definitely worth the search

    Bang for the buck

As far as getting your bang for your buck i would say EPCC does pretty well although there are a few set backs when it comes to cost epcc makes up for its lackluster environment.

    What to do for fun

There are actually a lot of on campus activites like play from the drama department and a bi-annual dance recital. However sometimes they can be a little juvenile and overly academic but there are a few college like things to do like talent shows and a dance or two. Most of your fun you will have will be with the friends you make in class.

    Food and Dining

There are usually three places to find food the food court (each campus has a different vendor like subway, mc donalds, different coffe shops), Snack machines( a little expensive), and the Bookstore.

    Dorm Life

There is no on campus housing.

    Academic Rigor

Some of the classes really challenge you academically while others you can used as academic boosters talk to other students while attending to find out which teachers you have.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for prospective students are to number one keep in contact with the school before beginning any semester that way you can be sure all the paperwork you need has been completed. Also pay attention to the papers stuck to the doors and windows of the school they contain critical information for your success at epcc.

    In three sentences

Overall I would rate epcc at a 4 out of ten. The pro are it is relatively cheap, the classes are relatively easy to find on campus and small, there is a computer lab available to all students and a food court for between class snacking, and the professors are well educated. However the cons are that a lot of your college credits will not transfer to this school, thestaff is not always eager to help you out so your mostly on your own when it comes to financial aid and career counseling, also

    What to do for fun

There's plenty of student organizations to choose form depending on your interests. When you register each year you will get a student planner that provides a lot of information on these clubs and activities. It also helps to check your student email often, since they send a lot of reminders of upcoming events that way.

    Food and Dining

The Student Center at Valle Verde offers a Subway and a coffee place.

    Dorm Life

This school doesn't offer student dormitories.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers' laid-back attitude can be good because it doesn't take much effort to pass most classes with a good grade. However, sometimes it can really suck because it's easy to relax and get behind. Also, some of these instructors can be hard to reach at times if you're taking online classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Your English, Biology, Chemistry, and History classes (among others) are sets of two halves of the same class. This means that they both use the exact same textbook, with the addition of an online key you have to buy each semester in certain cases. Save yourself money and buy the whole, original book, not the EPCC version. When you are done with both classes, it'll be easier to sell this book to bookstores other than the ones at EPCC.

    In three sentences

EPCC offers affordable tuition and a great range of courses. I love the fact that so many of their classes are available online for those of us who work, etc. Most instructors are very laid back in their teaching.

If you want to succeed in El Paso, TX, I recommend going straight to the University. Don't waste your time or money with the Community college here.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure the counselors give you an actual degree plan. Don't let them look at your transcripts (if you are a transfer) and then just say you need to take certain classes. Make sure they sit down with you and give you an actual plan that you can follow. They didn't do that with me and I was planning on graduating in the Fall of 2013 so I could transfer to another state with an associates, and come to find out they were giving me the wrong classes towards my degree. I spoke with a counselor and was told I was still 5 classes short. I never saw the same counselor twice, so I was getting conflicting information all the time.

The school work is fairly easy. The workload is balanced from class to class. This is the best place to start if you have other priorities such as a job or kids.

    Tips for prospective students

It will save you a lot of money for the same basic classes you would get at a University. However getting the feel of a University first may be better. Community may or may not prepare you for the University level.

El Paso community is kind of a boarding school atmosphere. Students go to class, get their education and then go back home. It's a good place to start especially if you have a job or kids.
