Categories Comments Great for these types of students First-time college students looking to complete their gen eds, people looking to return to college, the night classes are great for people who work during the day and need to take a class for their job. There are so many options that nearly anyone could find what they're looking for.
Tips for prospective students If you are planning to transfer after attending ECC, make sure that your credits will transfer where you want them to. Apply for scholarships! It can't hurt, and any little bit helps. Don't overload yourself the first semester, college courses can take a bit of getting used to, even if you did well in high school. And most of all, make sure the school is a good fit for you and will provide you with what you need from it.
Bang for the buck I will have completed all my general education by May 2011, and I've saved thousands of dollars by attending ECC. The quality of the classes are great as well, I feel I have gotten my money's worth.
Am enjoying being here I love being able to hang out in a lounge between classes, knowing I will probably see someone I know there. The classrooms and offices are easy to find too.
Am learning a lot ECC has such a great variety of classes, there's pretty much something for everyone. In my experience, the teachers are easily contacted, and very knowledgeable about their subjects.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Elgin Community College is great for students who have not yet decided what they want to major in. The college offers a wide array of classes to explore and many outside-of-the-classroom opportunities. You will always save a lot of money!
Tips for prospective students I would advise you to attend a community college first, even though you may want to move on to a four-year institution. It will prepare you for a smoother transition and you will save so much money on your general education classes.
Bang for the buck ECC offers quality education for a very reasonable price. I was a full time student and was able to pay for all my classes as well as books with under $4000.
Am enjoying being here The college has more than 40 active clubs and organizations on the campus. With all the constant activities going on, there is never a boring day and you will never want to leave!
Am learning a lot Elgin Community College has a great student to teacher ratio and the quality of the education is high. Many of the professors are trained professionals in their areas of study.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is campus security which are very thorough in investigations of things that have happened in the past. They also have an emergency text system, which they'll text you and let you know if there's ever a situation, and to be careful.
Clubs and Activities They have a bunch of clubs and activities at ECC. However, I'm not involved with them.
Great for these types of students Any type of student that is interested in receiving a college degree.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I can think of.
Bang for the buck This school doesn't break the bank in order to attend.
What to do for fun Join organizations.
Food and Dining From what I've heard, they have a cafeteria and also the Spartan restaurant; which is cooked by the culinary students. I've heard their restaurant is pretty good.
Dorm Life They do not have any dorms because it's a community college.
Academic Rigor The instructors know what they're talking about for their subjects.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get your financial aid papers together because it's rather rough trying to figure out everything you need. Don't take too long on it neither, they might drop your classes for it not being in on time. Have fun going to this school though!
In three sentences I like how this college has smaller classroom sizes, therefore you get to have more one-on-one time with instructors, as well as classmates. I like how this college has internet classes, in case you cannot make it to the school. Unfortunately, this school should offer more classes so different majors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This college is great for students who are looking for a cheap way to get the basic courses.
Tips for prospective students Definitely check the teachers out before signing up for classes. The professor can make a world of difference in the value of your time spent.
Bang for the buck As long as you are within district that value is very good. Indistrict students pay $99 per credit, while out of district students pay closer to $300.
Did enjoy being here I did enjoy attending Elgin Community College. I put the time in to check my professors out on ratemyprofessor.com in order to make sure I got the good ones.
Did learn a lot For me it depended on my teachers. Some teachers really cared and I learned a lot. In other classes they did not, so I passed with an A, and very little information.

Greek Life There are no fraternities or sororities.
Clubs and Activities There are sports teams, fitness classes, cultural appreciation and demonstration organization, music groups, language groups.
Great for these types of students Great for students who are undecided, have picked a career but need to get general courses out of the way, and for students who want to become more knowledgeable and well-rounded.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The organic garden on one of the roof's of the campus' building is a peaceful place to visit, or just taking advantage of the tables and benches on the roof makes a perfect spot to study and be outside.
Bang for the buck Overall, whether you're a returning student, just getting started, in pursuit of a higher education, or looking to become more educated and well-rounded, ECC is a great place to do all that and discover one's self. I highly recommend it as a place to start before going off to a four year university
What to do for fun Plenty classes are offered for non-credit, including fitness and art classes. ECC also has a recreational center on campus for those to stay fit and active. ECC has many different organized sport teams and student run organizations for cultural and other social means. Anything that one has an interest in can be found as ECC or they can take the initiative to start a organization with that interest at its center
Food and Dining ECC has an organic garden and the food is satisfactory. I especially love the availability of dunkin donuts in the cafeteria now.
Dorm Life NO dorms on campus.
Academic Rigor The rigor of academics is not less than a 4 year college, but on par. Teachers expect you to do the work, and to go above and beyond what is called for. Like anything, you get out of it what you put in, but academics do require to be a disciplined student.
Tips for prospective students Meet with an academic counselor to generate ideas and organize your academic goals. Be involved in your classes and get to know your teachers, for they will be more than willing to assist you in any way, even after the class ends.
In three sentences I believe that Elgin Community College is a great place to either start one's pursuit of a higher education, an institution that will help one decide their future career path, or a place to discover a new interest or skill. ECC has a great array of educated, knowledgeable teachers who are always there and willing to provide each individual with personal attention. The academics, extracurriculars, faculty, programs, and atmosphere of ECC provide the feel of a prestigious 4-year college, but without the cost and with a more personal relationship with each student.

Greek Life honors programs like phi theta kappa are a wonderful thing to get involved in.
Clubs and Activities offers a wide arrange of clubs and activities to get involved. a lot of emphasis on minority clubs and phi theta kappa.
Great for these types of students students looking to meet all different kinds of people and who are intending to transfer to a four year college anywhere in the u.s.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus a little niche in the library or in the health and sciences building is where i like to go to have some time to myself.
Bang for the buck ecc offers the exact same general education classes as a university would offer. great faculty.
What to do for fun ecc offers many clubs to get involved; find your niche hanging out with the faculty or the many types of students here to make your time worthwhile at ecc.
Food and Dining ecc offers food made exclusively by their culinary arts program which is top of the line. cafeteria has great food for decent prices.
Dorm Life this is a community college, so there are no dorms available, but plenty of space to hang out with other students between your schedule.
Academic Rigor your success in a class all depends on the teacher you have. some are different than others, so be sure to follow their teaching style.
Tips for prospective students don't hesitate to take classes that interest you or would open your mind. ecc offers a wide range of classes in many different fields.

What to do for fun elgin community college is a place you only go to for class there isn't many fun things to do here but in the area there is plenty to do.
Food and Dining have a small cafe that has some food choices not the best but there are many food places to eat in the area.
Dorm Life since this is a community college there is no dorms.
Academic Rigor classes are very nice and have not had a problem with any teachers yet.
Tips for prospective students just try to stay ahead of things here and do not fall behind and if this is done i believe anyone can succed here.

In three sentences ecc is a great start for earning a bachelor degree, or for earning a certificate or 2-year degree. there are many opportunities to get involved and the faculty really cares about your success. going to ecc is the best way to save money while earning your degree.

Great for these types of students Students who don't know what their major is yet. Students who want to try other majors. Students who don't want to pay a lot for gen-eds.
Bang for the buck Great education for very low price. Tuition is about 2,000 a semester for a full time student. Awesome way to get gen-eds done.
What to do for fun Lots of clubs, cool activities like the valentines day auction, free pancakes for finals, ECC idol, etc.
Food and Dining Food is excellent due to it being prepared by the culinary students.
Dorm Life You live off campus and commute to school. Community College does not offer dorms.
Academic Rigor You have to work hard, it's college, but you can achieve it. Almost everyone at ECC wants to be there and works hard to do well.
Tips for prospective students Buy textbooks online to save money. Use RateMyProfessor.com to choose your professors and leave them reviews. Take a few classes multiple days a week instead of just 2 long days.

Greek Life I don't know much about the Greek life on campus if their is any as this is a community college.

Bang for the buck For the price this school is highly recommended. You save a lot of money if your going for general education classes before a 4 year college and the classes transfer over very easily.
What to do for fun There are tons of clubs and lots of areas to just sit and hang out with you peers.
Food and Dining Their is a great selection for food from pasta, pizza, to doughnuts and cupcakes. Everything is fresh but does seem to be slightly overpriced due to convenience.
Academic Rigor The academics from the classes Ive taken seem to be fairly easy and as long as your trying and ask for help you will receive it from someone in the school.
Tips for prospective students I started out with one class and would recommend that to anyone who was unsure if college was for them or not. Also be sure to establish a relationship with the teachers, they are great forms of knowledge about anything you want to know.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On campus we celebrated everything, so prepared to have a lot of fun. The most unusual is the Day of the Dead and Halloween, that is when the campus could be a little creepy.
Bang for the buck The tuition there us $99 a credit. It is worth it too. They have been building this college to make it comfortable and relaxing for it's students and staff members.
What to do for fun Elgin Community College has a lot of fun activities going on up there, such as: Music from around the world, performances, college night, job searches, etc.
Food and Dining Their food there is great, the have a variety of selections, rather you are a meat eater, or an vegetarian. It's cooked fresh throughout the day so you will be satisfied.
Dorm Life Do not have a dorm there.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor is when we are having mid- terms. The facility helps up cope with it well by giving out free breakfast that includes everything, the professors volunteer their time to help in most major subjects.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are ready to learn when you get registered because these classes are fast and full of the knowledge you need to make it in the future, therefore, pay close attention to lessons taught.

What to do for fun Elgin community college also offers 7 league sports.
Tips for prospective students Take as many courses here as possible. You will save a large sum of many and the courses are very comprehensible.

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the safest schools in Illinois. Police stations all around campus and patrols daily and nightly. Students are even eligible to be escorted to their car by a police officer.
Greek Life I believe two different Greeks on campus, I forget which.
Clubs and Activities Over 30 different clubs and activities like an award winning speech team, a frisbee team, an anime club, a student government club, and so much more.
Bang for the buck $105 per credit hour! Really amazing since many are $300+!
What to do for fun Many clubs and organizations offered by ECC like frisbee and speech. Lots of bowling alleys and movie theaters nearby!
Food and Dining Lots of places to go, such as Little Panda. As well as ECC's own restaurant and cafeteria!
Dorm Life No dorms on campus, so living with your parents may not be the best physical choice, but it is the best financial and worthwhile choice.
Academic Rigor College professors are amazing and you can learn a lot, however be careful of electives that seem amazing, but aren't.
Tips for prospective students Cheaper tuition than 4 year. Helps you decide where to go. Get the general credits now than later. Many opportune moments at ECC.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Well you could either get involved with a sport, or go and support the sport teams at their eventful games. There are many parties going on within the clubs. There is always a fun activity given from the clubs.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is awesome! so many different kinds of foods and great deals. I could make my own yogurt and fruit cup or go get a waffle in the morning and in the afternoon I can enjoy some fries, burger, or a panini. Possibilities are endless. Plus there is a 5 star restaurant inside the school. Put on by the amazing culinary department.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life.
Academic Rigor It is hard yet easy. If you apply yourself you can achieve so much! If you apply yourself, you will find Elgin Community College so easy yet fulfilling.
Tips for prospective students Take every opportunity you are given, whether that is extra credit in a class, joining the talent show, or joining a club. Get involved! Use the resources that are provided for you. The library will have anything you can think of and will help you find what ever you need.
In three sentences Elgin Community College has become such a modern looking school, very up to date on technology. The teachers are fantastic and will help you out with anything! There are also so many clubs and opportunities given to the students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always a form of security lurking around. I can't say there have been any issues during my time at ECC that the campus police couldn't easily handle.
Clubs and Activities I didn't get as involved as I would have liked to, but there is always some sort of event going on with any club at any given time.
Great for these types of students Students looking for something close to home and affordable.
Bang for the buck I love ECC. If I could, I'd stay here longer. It was a better quality education that the university I attended my Freshman year.
What to do for fun Be involved! There are quite a few clubs; find one that fits you!
Food and Dining There are a few places where you can stop between classes and grab something to eat. If you can't find anything you like, there are a few places outside of the campus to help your appetite.
Academic Rigor Obviously some classes are going to be more difficult than others. The professors know what they are doing, and you if you look into who your professor is ahead of time, you'll be better prepared.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Not too long ago, I know someone was transported out of the school in an ambulance. This was unnerving, but did only occur once as far as I know.
Clubs and Activities I would see several people play card games and video games with rigor. They were really serious about the strategies they were employing.
What to do for fun Take a speech class, hang around the cafeteria and play video games, or join the animation club, just make sure you get involved in at least one activity. There is only one chance to be 19 or 20.
Food and Dining I enjoyed the food that was served to me. The fries and burgers were excellent and watching them cooked in front of me was neat.
Dorm Life The students generally don't bother each other and most of the staff are nice.
Academic Rigor The classes shouldn't be difficult as long you make sure to understand the material. I know I could have done better.
Tips for prospective students You must read the material and pay attention. If you have uncertainty about the material, review it. A clear consciousness is worth more than taking 20 more minutes of procrastination.
In three sentences The teachers utilize mostly effective methods and the work does well to reflect their style and expectations. Sometimes, they need to clarify the syllabus. Overall, Elgin Community College is to my liking.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There is always security walking around, so I have always felt safe in school. They are very nice and helpful. If you're having car troubles they'll help.
Clubs and Activities There's also many things happening. Such as fundraisers and the valentine auction. There's always something going on.
What to do for fun There's many lounges where you can hang with friends or study. Throughout the school there is free wi-fi for students and faculty. More so the best part is the video game lounge where you can play video games with friends in between classes.
Food and Dining The school's cafeteria food is great! I always love their pastas. Everyday there's a variety of foods from pastas, salads, grilled foods, and many other.
Dorm Life Elgin Community College is a 2-year college that does not have any dorms.
Academic Rigor Since this is the only college I've been to so far I can't really say if it's hard or not compared to other schools. However, there are easy classes such as Art appreciation and psychology. And then there's those super hard classes.
Tips for prospective students Some tips would be to make friends with other students in your class. Life will be a whole lot easier with a buddy to study with.
In three sentences Elgin Community College is a great school to start off your education. This school will save you a lot of money and you will definitely learn a lot! If it weren't a just a 2-year college I would love to continue my education there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Elgin Community College does an excellent job in making sure everyone feels safe. They have security guards walking around school. They also have quick first aid responders in case their is an emergency. If you have a night class, they are willing to escort you to your vehicle or to the bus stop. As a student as Elgin Community College, I feel safe on campus because my safety is a priority to my school.
Clubs and Activities There is something for everyone at Elgin Community College! The sense of community is seen throughout all the clubs it has. Whether you are into music, cooking, drawing, or discovering other cultures, Elgin Community College has something you can feel a part of!
Great for these types of students Elgin Community College is a great school for any student who is undecided in what they should study. They have a great staff of professional counselors who work with you in figuring out what you should study. This college also offers classes that help you discover what you might be interested in. This is a great school to begin your education because it has experience people giving you guidance.
Bang for the buck If you are an undecided student or are deciding to transfer to a four year university, Elgin Community College is a great place to start. Their classes are a lot less than a private or state university. They also offer many classes that transfer over to four year universities. Students who attend do not have to pay to live their. They save money because they commute to school.
What to do for fun Elgin Community College has many sports teams. They have a basket ball team, soccer team, and baseball team. There is always some sporting event to go to or participate. In addition to sports, ECC celebrates the diversity of their student population by having many cultural clubs. There is always an ethnic club hosting a dinner or movie night.
Food and Dining The food and dining at Elgin Community College is great! They have a great variety of foods to choose from. They have the standards such as hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, and hot dogs. However, they also have different pastas for different days, a Dunkin Donuts inside the school, and even a waffle bar! The food and dining is lead by culinary students. They are getting first hand experience as students enjoy their food.

They also place emphasis on meeting with your personally and addressing your weaknesses as a student. Take advantage of the willingness of your teachers. As long as they see you work hard, they work harder as well. The libraries facilities and personal are very helpful. They are always willing to help you. It is a good idea to become friends with one! They will help you even more when you take the time to get to know them.

What to do for fun There are thirty organizations and clubs all-together. Men or women have the opportunity to join soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf, and cross-country. A student at Ecc can also study abroad at places such as Spain or China.
Food and Dining There is a cafe at the library that offers a variety of popcorn flavors, sandwiches, soups, and of course coffee. In the main Cafeteria there is a broader array of choices to choose from, there is even a vegetarian section. Also, there is a bakery that has sweets as you can imagine, including Gelato.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life. However, there are students who like hanging out in the lounge area.
Academic Rigor You are likely to have good grades with The tutoring center in the library, it has been proven. There is tutoring in private, drop-in and online.
Tips for prospective students Read Posters that are posted on the walls or bulletin boards, they can really be helpful. Don't just try to focus on the grade you will be getting on a class, learning well is beneficial in the long run. Ask teachers if they can give you a syllabus before registering in their class to give you an example of how they might teach and if it fits with how you learn. Take 3 to 4 classes each semester. Join one club, and one organization. Visit all of the Offices at your school and ask questions about college. This will also help you now your resources better. Don't miss the beginning of class. Have a planner for your personal life and another one for your academic work. Make at least one friend in each class. Take one step at a time.
