    Great for these types of students

    Students who enjoy many different activities will love Elon. Students are given the chance to participate in many different clubs, teams, and organizations. Students are encouraged to have at least one minor and possibly a double major. Elon is academically challenging, but the teachers are always available. One of the great things about Elon is that the teachers really get to know you. If you are a student who likes to be invisible or to not share your thoughts during class than this is not the school for you. However, if you like an interactive and encouraging environment than this is the school for you. Elon is well known and award winning for the service work that the school does and Elon even provides an experiences transcript to keep track of thing like organizations and volunteer work because it is highly valued. Students get a chance to find their voice, their place, and a new home at Elon right away.
    Tips for prospective students

    Prospective students should make sure that they visit Elon's campus and meet the teachers and explore the different activities available in order to decide if they want to apply for a academic fellowship or a learning community. Elon University provides so many different opportunities, and it will help to get an idea of what you want to think about doing before you get there. However, there is plenty of time to change your mind and broaden your horizons once you get there. If you get waitlisted do not give up hope, I know many people who got off the waitlist. I would highly reccomend taking advantage of all tours and orientations that you go to. Every time you visit the campus try to meet with teachers in the department(s) you are interested in and talk to as many students as possible. Being well rounded, volunteer work, and leadership experiences are something Elon encourages while you attend the University and before so make sure to list all of your extracurricular activities including service work on your application. Most importantly do not limit yourself before you get to Elon, there are so many opportunities. You will change your mind and have the chance to try so many different things. Make sure to explore every possibility!

    Tips for prospective students

    Come do a campus visit during the spring, summer, or fall. The campus is stunning. Also check out the Open House events Elon does, it's a great opportunity to meet students and teachers who are willing to be more candid then your typical tour guide or representative.

    The only problem with Elon is it is Expensive. But the connections it enables you to make, and the excellence of the teachers are worth the money.
    Am enjoying being here

    The dorms are great, the people are friendly, and there is so much you can do. Elon has over 150 different organizations and greek groups. I've been expanding my athletic experiences with the martial arts club, getting ready for my future career with Beta Alpha Psi (an accounting/financial fraternity), and learning to step on fewer toes with the Ballroom Dancing club. It also helps that Elon has one of the most beautiful campus grounds on the eastern seaboard
    Am learning a lot

    I have loved my classes and teachers here at Elon. I transferred from a community college, so I dived right into some of the harder classes, but even the beginning ones I took taught me so much. My favorite class was Business Communications, our biggest project was researching and developing theories on different companies, and then we were taught how to write the report explaining our thoughts about whether or not a hypothetical company should invest in them.

    Great for these types of students

    Elon is very good for hands-on students. While there are some professors that like to lecture, most professors enjoy teaching you some and then giving you the opportunity to test out what you have learned! Also, the professors WILL get to know your name, so if you don't want to be another face in the crowd or a number, Elon is perfect for you!
    Tips for prospective students

    I encourage you too definetely visit the campus, and when you do make an appointment with some professors in any areas that you are interested in, take a tour or two, and sit in on some classes. Don't be afraid to talk to some of the students about anything you want to know about Elon. The students are the insiders and will be more than willing to let you in on some secrets!

    Cost is really the only downside to Elon, though with the connections you will make and Elon's growing name, it is worth it!

    Elon is a smaller campus, so you get to know many people and will most likely see someone you know everywhere you go! Elon also has many organizations, so there is usually something going on everyday, you just have to look for it!
    Am learning a lot

    You can easily learn something new everyday at Elon if you try. Professors doors are always open, and they are all so willing to talk to you about anything. The campus is also building its diversity slowly but surely, so you will definitely be able to learn from other students as well.

    Great for these types of students

    Elon is particularly excellent for those that are quiet, reserved, and who don't like big crowds. Not quiet as in anti-social, but quiet as in those who have a higher understanding of their set priorities in life. There is a place on campus for those who are more outgoing and who like groups, but the college seems to revolve around those who are more focused on being or becoming well-accomplished students. The college's population helps this out a bit, but also its strategic placement within this part of the state of North Carolina give it a more serene, quiescent environment that make those who are the peaceful type feel at home.
    Tips for prospective students

    It is recommended that all of those who are considered prospective students should not hesitate to talk to the faculty at Elon. Never be afraid to engage in conversation about your future. There are numerous opportunities available at Elon, but it's better to converse with the faculty to get a better idea of what you're getting into. Also, visit the campus anytime you can. You should take the opportunity to go the the various orientations set and take mental notes on what the campus expects and what you have to do to maintain and uphold standards acceptable by Elon University. Feel free to go to the gatherings hosted by the Elon community and don't focus on partying. This is a private college and they expect great things from you so messing around is not an efficient option. However, out of everything, don't be stressed and take things one step at a time.

    The campus of Elon does not go without compliments towards its breath-taking environment. Besides the fact that the brick faeries (people that seem to have pleasure in stealing the bricks from the campus walkways) tend to make a visit every now and then, the campus is beautiful. In the morning, you're graced by the welcoming organized, sturdy structures of the campus. At night, you're swept away by the cleverly placed water fountains in front of the Colonnades, Moseley Center and Alamance building. Also, the dining halls are absolutely luxurious. It gives a sense of a restaurant more than a standard cafeteria because there is always a unique choice of food. Most of the food can be customized and there are satisfying options for those who are vegetarians. The college is quite expensive, but it's well worth it.
    Am enjoying being here

    Elon University is always very lively. The students and faculty are terribly friendly and you'll almost always see a group of smiling faces willing to greet you on your way to class or to the various dinning halls. The dorms (especially Danieley and the Colonnades) are fantastic and you can find yourself satisfied no matter where you're located. If you're a quiet person, you can find a variety of facilities open on the campus that have a sincerely dedicated aura of solitude like the Belk Library. If you're a more lively, out-going person, there are numerous opportunities to hang out in groups, chat at any of the areas on campus (the Danieley Center Commons, Octagon Cafe and McEwen theater seem to be popular), and even go about playing video games in each others dorms (with permission of course).
    Am learning a lot

    Elon is one of the few colleges that present an environment that makes it easier to learn new, interesting things. Just being on campus and walking around provokes your brain to analyze situations and acquire information automatically but there are a variety of programs available that can broaden your horizons in the academic and experiential sense (like studying abroad, which Elon pushes greatly). Even students that aren't doing so well academically feel empowered by their ability to retain some of the information taught and applying to their campus life. However, if you do have any sort of difficulty understanding what’s being taught during lectures, professors are always willing to help no matter what and do not hesitate providing another perspective to help you understand more easily.

    Tips for prospective students

    I encourage every prospective Elon student to visit campus. The tours are nice and very informative, but if you want a true feeling of how it is to live and work at Elon, explore campus yourself, talk to professors and talk to students. If you know someone currently attending Elon, give them a call and make plans to stay with them for a weekend. Seeing all aspects of a university are what really help you decide if it is a place where you can live, work, and have fun.

    Those interested in out-of-the-classroom learning experiences, those interested in joining Greek Life (dominates social scene on campus) and those seeking a beautiful campus in a more secluded setting.
    Tips for prospective students

    Apply Early-Action- it is non-binding and you hear of your acceptance sooner. If you are not accepted Early Action, you may still apply regular decision. Also, make sure to come visit the school. It is definitely worth touring and the fact that you took the time and made the effort to come visit stands out when admission counselors are choosing between accepting two otherwise equal students.

    Elon is very affordable for all that it offers. As an up and coming school that gains more popularity and recognition every year, receiving a diploma from Elon will mean a great deal. The facilities are state of the art, the academic offerings are broad and the experiential learning opportunities make Elon a definite standout.
    Am enjoying being here

    This is the most beautiful campus and it is remarkable how every building looks brand-new. The climate is great- not too cold and not to hot but definitely not predictable! Students come from all over the country yet a large majority are from North Carolina. Coming from the Northeast, the southern setting makes for wonderful hospitality and a slower, more relaxed pace of life. Students are friendly and out-going, professors are knowledgeable and caring and there is always something going on if you are willing to look around.
    Am learning a lot

    Elon provides so many wonderful opportunities from bringing world-renowned speakers to campus to providing alternative break service trips across the globe. Elon's emphasis on engaged learning and providing students with hands-on experience through research, internships and study abroad are the avenues where there is the most to be learned and gained. This approach reduces the artificial classroom and busy-work environment instead opting for experiences that will make Elon graduates more desirable and marketable in the real world.

    seriously take a look at elon university. it is affordable, beautiful and in a great location. elon university has been awarded many top honors over the past five years and so far, from my experience, a great place to obtain a liberal arts education.

    excellent, engaging and exciting are three words that come to mind when thinking of elon university. not only is the campus beautiful but the education and training provided is challenging and thought provoking. choosing elon university over six other music theater programs was an excellent decision.

    Campus Safety

    the campus as a whole is very safe. there are emergency poles in every corner of the streets in the event that you feel insecure while walking late at night, you press the button and campus police will escort you to your dorm. also there's a program called safe rides which picks up many students who are out partying or roaming the campus. although it's an open campus, it's very safe because you can always contact campus police and safe rides to make sure you get to your dorm or destination safe and sound.
    Greek Life

    greek life is a vital part of elon university. there are hundreds of organizations to choose from. be careful though, not every greek organization is for everyone and it's very time consuming, so pick one that suits your interests and that the people have the same goals as you.
    Clubs and Activities

    there are over 1,000 clubs and organizations from the latino student organization to the soccer club. if you're a sports fan there are tons of sports clubs that will suit your interests. if you're more into academics, there are many academic clubs to choose from and if your more into service, there are plenty of clubs and activities to do so. the best part is if they don't have the club you want you can start it yourself, get approval and see it grow.

    elon university is great for the students who are highly motivated, who want to see diversity expand larger every year, who are leaders and want to achieve, as well as learn everything possible to help give back to the communities and abroad.

    at elon university, there has been the tradition of the polar bear plunge in which all elon students during their winter term classes dive into the university's lake mary neil's cold waters and retrieve a gift card. also there's an event called turkey trot every november in which elon students are able to run or walk a few miles in honor of the thanksgiving holidays.

    as an institution elon will make sure that you receive all the tools, resources, support, and guidance you'll need to succeed. you can't forget the beauty of the campus and the willingness that everyone has to make sure that you feel at home. i can say that elon university is one of the few universities that dedicates themselves to the diversity, growth and success of every individual. it's the perfect example of what a university should be and that is inspiration, respect, generosity, and initiative.
    What to do for fun

    there are many things to do for fun. elon has their chorale groups sing every friday and the weekend, there are movie runs on friday which are called movie on the lawn, bingo night, parties sponsored by faternities/sororities, and clubs/organizations. also you can go to the sports games with your friends and have a great time cheering on the elon phoenix teams.
    Food and Dining

    elon university has three dinning halls which are, harden, mcewen, and colonades. there are also retail locations such as boars head, pan geos, varsity sports and grill, and 1889. there are a great selection of choices from salads, pastas, chicken, burgers and soups. there's many gluten free and healthier options for those who cannot eat gluten. the only concern would be that the if you go to lets say mcewen everyday, then you'll get bored of the same food. try to variate between the other dinning halls because eventually you'll get tired of eating the same thing.
    Dorm Life

    at elon university, dorm life is amazing because there are many different types such as, learning communities (international pavilion, la casa de español and honors pavilion). in addition, you'll meet many great people within the dorm. as you share backgrounds, cultures, beliefs and ideas, you'll learn so many perspectives that will make you become closer to them like a family. you'll have a dorm advisor which is in charge of making sure everything is order, someone you can trust to talk about anything and sets up activities that as a whole can do together. no matter where you end up in a dorm. you'll enjoy many activities with your hall and roommates as well as grow as a loving and respecting family.
    Academic Rigor

    elon university stresses the importance of their academics. depending of your major a lot of classes are discussion based which means participation is a huge part of your grade. you'll have classes where the teacher will ask you to write papers every week, as well as have tests every week. also teachers expect the best quality of work from their students and no less. most importantly writing notes and listening to the teacher is key because he or she expects you to know the material not by memorizing it, but by being able to comprehend and explain what you've learned.
    Tips for prospective students

    please remember to stay organized. it's very important to make a schedule of all of your classes, study times, meetings, and other activities. this is the best way to be successful in college because you will have everything balanced and stress free. this means better grades, you get everything done and you stay on top of everything. most importantly, use all of the resources on campus from academic advising to the writing center. you're paying a lot of money to go to college so please use every resource as much as possible and you'll see that your goals will be achieved. also be yourself, college can be intimidating, but take the time to try things outside of your comfort zone, make new friends, enjoy all the benefits of college life and make the next four years the very best.

    Take all of your visits. Visiting different schools you're interested in really helps to narrow it down to a final choice.

    The campus is beautiful, the weather is amazing, and the atmosphere seems really awesome. I was down for a weekend baseball series and the crowds were big, everyone was enthusiastic. Driving around campus there were bar-b-ques and students just hanging out having fun.
    Will learn a lot

    I have visited the campus numerous times over the past year. As a baseball player, I was able to talk with current players and find out directly from students at the school what it's all about. Everyone had great things to say about the quality and rigor of the academics at Elon.

    Tips for prospective students

    I wish I was told about how popular Greek life was at Elon before I came. Most first years do rush. My advice is to stay away from the Greek courts and houses for the first few weeks of school! Concentrate of getting adjusted to college life and classes before starting to party. Make friends with the Financial Aid office workers, they will help you out! Your RA is your friend and a great resource for everything from where to get something to eat at 1am to how to resolve roommate problems. Elon is not very diverse but is slowly taking steps in the right direction. If diversity is something you value, make sure you visit and get a feel for the campus first to see if you are comfortable.

    Compared to many private institutions, Elon is on the cheaper side however on average a students pays $35,000 - $38,000 a year depending on how many art and sports classes you take. Elon also allows you to take up to 18 credit hours a semester which is great, although each core class is worth 4 credit hours. As far as financial aid goes, Elon does an okay job. They are usually willing to work with you about payments and extra aid if you are nice to them. One problem I found frustrating with Elon is the fact that they charge you for very small things. For instance, it costs $5-$10 for them to unlock your dorm door if you lock yourself out.
    Am enjoying being here

    Elon has a lot of events on campus but not too many non-Greek events off campus. Theater Arts Program is wonderful! You will enjoy seeing its productions; I saw RENT this year. The Student Union Board hosts concerts every fall and spring and weekly movies on the lawn are always fun. Transportation is a problem though so having a car will help you get around town and to Burlington for other activities.
    Am learning a lot

    Elon has a lot of great professors! I enjoyed most of my general education classes. They will make you take a College Writing course and Wellness, which can be great or not so great depending on which teacher you get. I especially learned a lot in my Global Experiences class, which is also required, but not a waste of time.

    Students that like to cut loose and party every once in a while and want a prestigious education. It helps ypu are somewhat wealthy.
    Tips for prospective students

    Honestly the campus is gorgeous, but the price is way too high, the people are constantly drinking and some are pretty stuck up. Go to a nice public school and pay less money. There are some great people out there, but you've got to weed them out.

    The cost is ridiculous if your of lower middle class. The school offers some grants, but it doesn't help very much. Room and board is a little high, and the meal plans cost way too much.
    Am enjoying being here

    I'm still not sure whether or not it's all in my head, but sometimes I get the feeling that I'm not welcome here because I am a minority. Although there is a multicultural center and a minority mentoring program, I believe that those things separate the minority students from everyone else more than it helps bring everyone together.

    i would definitely recommend elon university to anyone who is serious about learning and becoming a better person. the night life is awesome whether you're interested in greek life or not. the campus was voted the #1 most beautiful campus in the us.
    What to do for fun

    there are dozens of clubs, groups, and organizations. lots of people also participate in physical activities like running or basketball. burlington, nc is just 5 minutes away and greensboro is only 30 minutes.
    Food and Dining

    on campus food is great. there are 3 buffet style dining halls and 3 shopping centers. chic-fil-a is available on meal plan.
    Dorm Life

    the social atmosphere at elon is unlike any other. living in a dorm here will be one of the best experiences in your life. most roommates, suite mates and hall mates remain friends throughout there time at elon.
    Academic Rigor

    elon prides itself on being academically challenging. courses are of varying difficulties, but overall, you will be pushed to get the grades you want.

    be proactive and get involved. make your elon bubble as big as possible.

    All the lampposts at Elon have little blue buttons on them so that if you are ever feeling unsafe or are just chilly or too tired to walk back to your dorm, campus security will pick you up at the lamppost and drive you wherever on campus you need to go.
    Great for these types of students

    Many programs at Elon are very strong, but they are known for their outstanding Communications department. Also, in the past 20 years, they have had a 100% placement for music education majors, which is not very common these days.

    There is a ceremony to welcome freshmen called Under the Oaks in which all freshmen will receive an acorn. When those freshmen go on to graduate, they will receive an insured oak tree!
    Bang for the buck

    The programs at Elon are definitely worth the money! They have an amazing study abroad program, and even offer to send you to any Spanish-speaking country for free if you take 140 hours of any Spanish related class!
    Dorm Life

    The dorms are amazing! Even the smallest ones are spacious, and there are many different styles offered to suit any preference. There are also many services offered for the dorms: they will cut and install any carpet of your choice before you arrive for a nominal fee, if they can access your bathroom from the hallway they will clean it for you, there is free Wi-Fi throughout the entire campus, and if you don't want to use the free laundry machines they will wash and fold your laundry for a nominal fee. You also have the opportunity to switch roommates up to four times a year just in case something goes wrong. The dorm life is really amazing!
    Academic Rigor

    Elon's programs challenge the student to perform at the best of their ability. They expect nothing less than each student's best effort, and inspire everyone to reach their full potential. Also, class sizes at Elon are small, so teachers get to know you and will then come to expect more from you, unlike at bigger schools where you may be referred to as 378 in a 450 person class.
    Tips for prospective students

    You have to see the campus and go on a tour! Once you see and hear all that Elon has to offer, you will not want to or need to look anywhere else. You would be hard-pressed to find a school with better opportunities or a more well-rounded education.

    Elon University is the most amazing environment for learning and growing as a person. Not only is the campus gorgeous, but the programs offered at Elon are outstanding. Their emphasis on being an upstanding citizen through the Elon Experiences is fantastic, and sets Elon apart as one of the best schools for a well-rounded education.

    Campus Safety

    Elon is generally a very safe place. The school has a great alarm system, prompt notifications of incidents, and the university provides students with options such as safe rides which give students a safe way to get home from academic and social events, although few students feel the need. The students and staff also do a great job of spreading awareness of issues that are often swept under the rug, such as rape, so that it happens in lower frequencies. The only real problem that I have seen here is petty theft and other minor incidents; Elon students are assumed to be wealthy and so there have been situations where items have been stolen from campus. However, the school does well to address issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
    Greek Life

    Greek life is an integral part of Elon University. Over thirty percent of students are involved with various Greek organizations, which is a relatively high percentage of students. In addition, Greek organizations tend to be very vocal; there are nearly always various philanthropic events going on that are hosted by Greek organizations, and therefore there is constant advertisement for those events on campus. Students involved often sport letters and pins signifying their involvement. This, in addition to the high level of exclusive 'Greek' parties make it feel like a dominant presence on campus. However, this is not all bad as the sororities and fraternities on campus promote values such as academic excellence, integrity, social engagement, and community involvement. Additionally, it is a great way to meet peers, and better yet, there is a lot to do on campus besides or in addition to Greek life!
    Clubs and Activities

    Clubs and activities are what makes Elon University truly great! Elon has nearly every organisation imaginable. These include: academic clubs, such as Mock Trial, language clubs, and business organisations; athletic clubs, such as field hockey, lacrosse and soccer; musical clubs, such as A Capella and orchestra; philanthropic organisations such as Habitat for Humanity and Lunch Buddies; Greek life, Student Government, and SO much more! The opportunities for internal and external engagement are boundless here--you often find that students here end up wanting to try a bit of everything! Regardless of what you are interested in, you will probably find it here, and if you so choose perhaps you can take the lead!
    Great for these types of students

    Elon University is great for motivated students who love to be very involved both on and off campus. Elon provides so many opportunities for engagement in academic and philanthropic organizations that it would be a shame to put the opportunities to waste. In addition, Elon is a great university for those who would benefit from personal attention from professors and other staff members; while students are expected to be very independent, professors love to help and be involved with their students' academic lives. Finally, while there are all types of personalities here, those who seem to 'fit in' the best are generally clean-cut, and academically and socially involved students.

    There are many lovely traditions at Elon. The first one that comes to mind is the tradition that takes place at convocation and commencement. At freshman convocation, the fledgling students are given an acorn to symbolize that they are planting the seeds of education, as well as beginning their journey of growth and learning--all of which takes place at Elon, which is Jewish for oak tree! Then, upon graduation students are given an oak sapling to plant and continue their growth in the world outside of college. This is very endearing and unique, especially since Elon's botanical garden campus is famous for the stunning oak trees abound. In addition to this tradition, there is a darker one that takes place on campus. Furthermore, one of the buildings known as West Dormitory is believed to be haunted! Students maintain that Mary, a victim of the fire that burned down most of the campus in 1923, can be seen flickering lights and swinging from the chandelier in the dormitory parlor! In the evenings students gather in the parlor in hopes of seeing the frightening, yet beloved ghost.

    Elon University is a private school and therefore it does not come cheap. Expenses run roughly around 40k per year (including housing, books, food, etc.). That said, you will not get a better private school education for the cost, and the benefits that Elon provides are worth every penny! I have found a return in the intimate relationships that I have been able to form with professors, the excellent academic programs, clubs and student organisations, and last but not least the stellar facilities. I have not begun my job search yet, but most of my predecessors have been successful in securing one or more jobs upon graduating. This is a reflection of Elon's growing reputation, as well as the attention to detail shown by advisors, mentors, and other staff members who help students meet their goals.
    What to do for fun

    There is always something to do at Elon! The campus hosts fun events like movie nights out on the lawn, concerts, A Capella performances, etc. and the party scene is very happening and accessible--no need to arrange a ride because everything is close! The town itself is small, and there is not much to do here. Although, there is some decent shopping and a nice movie theatre; there is also easy access to Greensboro, Chapel Hill and Raleigh via I-84 and I-40.
    Food and Dining

    Elon has more dining options than any other campus that I have visited. The school provides a lot of variety in dining location and style, and the food is generally of a high caliber. However, I wish that the school provided better alternative eating options. For instance, there should be more variety for vegetarians and those on a gluten-free diet. In addition, I prefer to eat local, organic food and this can be difficult to find on campus. That said, this is true of most college campuses.
    Dorm Life

    Elon has fantastic living situations for students, especially compared to other colleges. Most of the facilities are new or have been renovated. The Elon tuition and endowment programs allow for relatively large, clean, and nice dorm rooms for both underclassmen and upperclassmen. You can choose from co-ed and hallway style dorms, or opt for a more private setting. The only complaint that I have is that there has been a shortage of upperclassmen housing. Yet, there are off-campus places to live that counter-act this issue. All in all, there is something for everyone.
    Academic Rigor

    This is truly what you make of it; general education requirements are enlightening but typically not too difficult depending on the professor. Upper-level classes, particularly major requirements, can be strenuous but well worth the effort. In my experience I am expected to do more writing and presentations than my colleagues at larger schools, and I typically do less test-taking. The only notable exceptions are business, science and mathematics majors, who are frequently tested. Sometimes the focus on writing and presentations can make the work-load heavy, but professors are always willing and able to give personal attention. Thus, as long as I am able to complete my work, I have the capacity to be successful in my classes. In addition, I find that I learn more than I would otherwise and I am growing as a student and a person.

    At a glance this university may seem like your average country club; keep in mind that it has so much more to offer! Not only are the facilities (and student body) beautiful, but the university is gaining nation-wide recognition for strong academics, and the staff works endlessly to ensure that students have a bright future ahead of them. No university is perfect, but Elon is a school that is making a mark on the world, and the students who attend here have truly life-changing experiences.     I attended for three full years and was never concerned about my safety, even when walking across campus late at night. Well-lit, with many options available for transportation.

    Depending on your preferences, Greek life at Elon could make or break a prospective student's decision to enroll. Fraternity and Sorority life is pervasive through the campus, and even the students who aren't part of Greek life essentially act like they are. Not necessarily bad, just part of the atmosphere of the school.

    Elon is a bit smaller than many institutions, so there may not necessarily be a club available for the more specific activities. However, if one can get interest built, it is easy (and encouraged) to start your own club/activity.

    Despite Smith Jackson warning emails, Campus is usually safe, everyone is looking out for one another and security are never too far away.

    Greek life definitely has a presence on campus, but not in a hurtful way. There isn't much exclusivity and if you're interested in Greek life, you can definitely find a chapter for you. Having late rush (end of Winter Term) is a huge plus - you have time to make your own friends beforehand.
    Clubs and Activities

    A LOT of sports involvement, which is fun if you miss your high school sport or want to try a new one (both very common). Clubs host different events on campus which are (usually open to everyone) interesting and fun. They give you a break from everything else you have or had going on that day.
    Great for these types of students

    Outgoing, friendly, passionate students who want something more out of their environment. Be open to meeting all types of new people- you definitely will.

    Before you graduate you have to steal a brick! You also have to get in the fountains - but do NOT get caught by campus police or Elon police!!!! Definitely stay for Winter Term - most fun all year, and only one class a day! College Coffee - Tuesdays 9:20am-10:40am by the Alamance Fountain - faculty and students get free breakfast and get to chat. This is unique to Elon (I think!) and a great way to interact with everybody even that early in the morning.

    Students hang out everywhere on campus, the weekends there are always events being held by the Student Union Board, like: movie screenings, comedy shows, acapella shows, Bingo. If not there are always parties off-campus too, which are fun.

    It can be rough living in a suite with 7 other people, but it obviously depends who you end up with - you might end up loving it. One great thing about Elon is I've seen that if you're not happy, the school will definitely help to accommodate you - you can move all the way across campus, or just down the hall.

    Most classes have attendance policies, which can hurt if you don't like going to class. But professors put in a lot of time to help you out. All obviously care very much about their jobs at Elon.

    Only one time have I felt unsafe walking across campus, and that was during a break where most people were off campus, and my route was especially dark and quiet. Otherwise, there are always people milling around, even at night, and our campus is small enough that you can be home safely within 20 minutes. If you ever do feel unsafe, you can call Campus Security (they're the ones driving around in Priuses) and they can take you anywhere on campus. If it's a weekend night and you've been out at parties, call Safe Rides, a student-volunteer-run organization that gives students rides back to their dorms. Safe Rides isn't just for drunk kids though; if it's cold or your walk is too far, call anyway. Student safety is one of the university's highest concerns, and you will come to know and love our Dean, Smith Jackson, for his email alerts and notifications. Scary things happen all the time, but there are endless resources set up to keep students safe and healthy at Elon.
    Greek Life

    Greek Life is a huge part of Elon life, even though tour guides tend to gloss over it when asked; in truth, around 50% of women are in sororities, and 28% of men are in fraternities. Elon defers rush until the Spring, so girls pledge during the week-long fake break between Winter Term and Spring Semester, and boys pledge closer to Spring Break. There is a section on campus called the Loy Center, which is where all the Greek houses are, and about ten or twelve people live in each house, some of which are LEED certified (the only for a North Carolina school). If you're into sororities and fraternities, you'll love Elon; if you're not so sure about them, come to Elon anyway: there's still plenty here to do.
    Clubs and Activities

    As I mentioned before, our campus groups total close to 300, and focus on Athletics, Service, Government, Religion, Greek, Academics, Performance, and Programming; there is a club (usually more than one) for everyone, and no one has an excuse to not get involved.     This is not a school for slackers, cheaters, or homebodies. There is a strict attendance policy, as well as an enforced honor code that means you better be going to class every day and doing it the right way. Also, every student I know is involved in at least five extracurriculars, ranging from sports to Greek life to student government to performance groups. We have a huge organizational fair the first week of school to encourage new members to join our clubs, so don't be afraid to over-commit: everyone at Elon does, and we all love being so busy and engaged.

    Some events we hold are unique to Elon, like Survival Bingo held once a month by Resident Student Association, at the same time as Midnight Meals on Thursday nights (when SUB feeds and entertains students to give them an alternative to drinking). Elonthon is our 24-hour dance marathon held every Spring to benefit Duke Children's hospital. Unfortunately, due to construction in the area this year, we won't be holding North Area's Polar Bear Plunge, but that's always a huge hit. That also happens during our Winter Term, which is an intensive one-course, three-week term held in the month of January; 98% of students come back for it and it is very popular for short-term study abroad trips, for those who can't miss a whole semester, or just want to tour a continent for a few weeks.
    Bang for the buck

    Financial aid at Elon is more than sub par, and that seems to be the one thing the University isn't worried about fixing; however, there have been a lot of recent pushes for alumni participation, and now that Elon is gaining a name for itself, its endowment is expected to rise, and more students will be able to attend. Some scholarships are available through Fellows and some other helpful alumni, but for the most part you're on your own. Still, I would pick Elon over a cheaper college any day.
    What to do for fun

    Elon doesn't have a big social scene, so most weekends are spent at fraternity or athletic club parties, or the two bars near campus, with nights ending at Late-Night McEwen (our dining hall that's open till 3am on the weekends). For the non-partyers, our Student Union Board has events every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, including concerts, movies, and game nights; also, many other clubs host events, dances, and our A Capella groups perform quite often. Basketball and football games are highly attended, and our baseball team is among the best as well. With Greensboro and Raleigh also within driving distance, you will never be able to claim boredom.
    Food and Dining

    Of the three dining halls on campus, each has its own specialty (Colonnades has the best pizza, McEwen stir-fry and pasta, and Harden a salad bar), but on the whole it was never that great. Luckily, there are numerous retail locations on campus that have great food, such as the Boar's Head Deli, Chick-Fil-A, and Acorn, our beloved coffee shop. There are also a bunch of great restaurants on or near campus that are tasty and affordable, which are great for kids on a budget! Our meal plan was just changed last year and is less than the best, but we're undergoing negotiations to improve it. In any case, you can always find somewhere to eat; I promise you won't starve!
    Dorm Life

    Being an RA might give me a bias, but I truly believe our dorm life can play a huge role in how much you enjoy college. All freshmen and sophomores must live on campus, so there have been a number of recent projects to expand and improve housing to include updated, LEED-certified dorms that make you think you're living in a hotel! We also have more than 15 learning communities located around campus, which are entire halls devoted to different interests, such as Service Learning or Communications; these LCs are huge for building community right off the bat, and many freshmen enjoy having these built-in connections.
    Academic Rigor

    I opted out of the Fellows programs, but they are an option many students take because they provide a community, enhance academics, and take care of a lot of financial aid. Even without the extra Fellows courses, you'll be plenty busy with work; I'm glad I didn't become a Fellow because I had more time to get involved in other things, like leadership and learning communities.
    Tips for prospective students

    While it may not be as diverse as possible, I've met lots of different people who have become some of my closest friends, and there's enough happening on campus for you to find your niche too. I highly suggest taking a tour and seeing everything we have to offer (hint: it's a lot!). Elon is on the rise as one of the best colleges in the country and most students will attest to that fact, and be able to prove it; the things we accomplish in our four years here are beyond impressive, and you can just as easily succeed.

    Elon may not be perfect (financial aid and food leave something to be desired, and there's an overbearing Greek population), but I've had the most enjoyable year of my life there, and I can't wait to go back for more. Students are highly involved in everything, especially volunteering and study abroad, and even the kids you'd think would be preppy and stuck-up actually have some of the biggest hearts. Don't judge the campus by its gorgeous landscape and wealthy students; come take a tour and see how beautiful we are on the inside too.

    My freshman dorm experience was picture perfect! I lived in a suite-style dorm with a full kitchen, laundry room, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a common room. My living situation was amazing, but it was my floor-mates that made it a home.

    Elon is definitely on the up and up. Professors challenge students in and out of the classroom and push us further than a typical college class. Engaged learning is extremely important at Elon and I believe that's the most important part of a college education.

    Often see campus security and campus police patrol the campus and buildings, although the blue light system on campus is only in the parking lots. Every dorm is key card locked so that only those authorized can enter, and after certain times on weekdays and the all day on weekends, classrooms are key card locked so only students, faculty, and staff can enter.

    For such a small student body, there are plenty of organizations and activities for students to get involved with. There are numerous service based organizations, as well as club teams for almost every sport!

    Every Tuesday, there is something called College Coffee. Students, Professors, and Faculty all come out and have coffee, juice, pastries, bagels, whatever is out that day.     Join a club! There are many socially oriented clubs such as sports teams and ballroom dance team. Or get your friends together and do a movie night in a classroom using a projector, there's also a local bowling alley that has unlimited bowling Friday/Saturday nights for $10 for 3 hours!

    There are many dining options available, and accommodations for those with special food needs (celiac/ vegetarian). What I don't like is the limited options of meal plans and how quickly the increase in price. Every freshman must have a plan giving unlimited swipes to dining halls, and if they choose to, they can get retail meals, and unless you use at least 6 of your 7 every week (they reset every week) you loose money.
    Dorm Life

    Some dorms are better than others, it all depends on the age of them. Either way, they are nice and spacious, and it is easy to get what you need from residence life staff. The RA's are also very good about coming quickly if someone is locked out or neighbors are being loud during quiet hours.
    Academic Rigor

    Classes are amazing, there are many different kinds of classes, and a wide variety of choices to let you pick what you would like to take to fulfill your general requirements. The actual difficulty of classes varies on the professors, although I have found that those with adjuncts are not as good as those with the full-time professors. If you have a choice, choose a full-time Elon professor.

    Get involved! There are plenty of clubs on campus that can help you find your niche and your group of amazing friends. Also, don't be afraid to go talk to a professor during their office hours, they are always happy to see you, and I have only ever asked to come back later when a professor is with another student!

    At convocation, the incoming freshmen receive an acorn (since Elon means oak in Hebrew). At graduation, students receive a sapling symbolizing their growth throughout college. Every year the President has a holiday party at his home and invites the entire student body.
    What to do for fun

    There are always different sporting events or cultural activities on the weekends. Elon isn't very far from Greensboro and there is TONS to do there. Elon is close to shopping centers and many restaurants.
    Food and Dining

    There are multiple dining halls for students' convenience and there are always different options. Obviously, nothing can beat home-cooked food, but the options at Elon come pretty close.

    There are safety locations where you can call on a phone for help, as well as several numbers that can be programmed in the phone. I never felt unsafe.
    Greek Life

    Though I did not participate in Greek life, I have many friends who did and loved it. There are a lot of sororities and fraternities that offer lots of opportunities for socializing, meeting friends, and helping the community through a particular organization.

    Ballroom is very fun. There are a lot of clubs available and there is an Org Fair at the beginning of each year to inform students of their options.

    There is Luminaries every December, which is where there is available cider and cocoa, caroling, and the lighting of the Christmas lights on the trees.     It is important to make close relationships with your professors. They can help you locally, such as in the community and at the university, but can also put you in contact with other people, such as for internships and jobs.     Dorm Life

    I love living in the all girls hall! The rooms are very big considering what a normal dorm room size is. Our dorm is very up to date and usually very clean. My dorm is right in the middle of campus - and although I don't recommend this, you can wake up 5 minutes before class and make it on time.
    Academic Rigor

    Elon provides a broad range of classes with endless resources to help you. Free tutoring for every subject is available every weeknight, and the writing center is open every night. Professors also hold office hours during the week - which is time used specifically to help students. Most of my professors and I are on a first name basis even though most have PhD's and/or doctorates. Professors go above and beyond to help you with material but they expect you to be responsible for missed class work. Class sizes are capped at around 30 students so it is much easier to learn material here than it would be at a large state school of 200 students.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you fall in love with Elon, as I did, when you visit - apply Early Decision! It is the best thing I ever did!

    Campus Safety

    You will learn to love Smith Jackson emails. Smith Jackson is the infamous Vice President for student life at Elon. He is responsible for sending emails and text alerts regarding all safety and wellness information on and off campus, frequently offering detailed reports of any suspicious or alarming activity, tips and instructions on how to avoid sketchy situations and he makes it very clear that student safety is a priority. We also have the blue light system, which I know many universities have to alert campus officials. The security cars drive around everywhere at all hours and Safe Rides is a student-run taxi service, which provides free transportation on, and off-campus, great for staying safe and not getting in trouble if you are traveling while intoxicated. I definitely feel very safe walking around Elon at night, although it would be advised not to walk too far off campus alone. Living on-campus freshman and sophomore year, although I've never had to go far, I have never felt unsafe walking alone at any hour.
    Greek Life

    I am not a member of Greek life at Elon. I remember reading these reviews in high school and being concerned about the presence and popularity of it. If you're interesting in joining a sorority or fraternity, go for it! A lot of my friends are members and have all had wonderful experiences. If you're looking for sisterhood, brotherhood or another social outlet, Greek life at Elon is a good fit for you. However, if you're thinking twice about whether this is your scene, already have sisters like me, or just aren't sure - do not let any comments about the Greek scene at Elon deter you from this school! You'll figure it out and one great thing about Elon is that you won't go through recruitment until after Winter Term, giving you a good 5 months to feel it out. You might find, like me that you have enough on your plate or don't want to put forth the expenses. You will definitely find groups to be a part of that are a good fit for you. However, it can't hurt to go through recruitment and see if you find a group of girls or guys you just can't imagine your Elon experience without. However, if it doesn't really interest you - No worries. You will still find a group of girls or guys you can't imagine your Elon experience without. I promise!
    Clubs and Activities

    So many choices! From sports teams to religious groups and honors societies to cooking clubs - you will learn about them all at the organization fair in the fall. Do not worry, there is something for everyone. And if not? Create it. My friend is an Irish dancer but there wasn't an Irish dancing club at Elon so she got a group of girls together and helped start one. I know the communications groups are really, really great. There's our student television station, Elon Local News (so professional), Elon Tonight (comparable to Saturday Night Live - HILARIOUS), E-Talk (awesome talk show), The Pendulum student newspaper, The Edge Student Magazine, Live Oak communications agency, Public Relations Student Society, American Advertising Federation - and so many more! And I just know of these became I'm in the School of Comm but I'm sure every discipline has similar opportunities. Another prime example - We have a great Spanish center, a space is where Spanish natives can feel at home and those learning about the Spanish language and culture can immerse themselves within it through conversation classes, cooking classes and movie showings. AND if you spend 140 hours here, they give you up to $600 towards a plane ticket to any Spanish speaking country of your choice. These are just a couple of the opportunities Elon offers through clubs and activities which I have found to definitely help me learn, grow and enjoy my Elon experience. Like I said, you'll find your niche.
    Great for these types of students

    Elon is a great place for leaders and for energetic hands-on learners who are determined to make a difference. There are not many introverts or students that are here just to study and get a degree. Elon is all about the experience, about becoming a global learner with a broad realm of knowledge and a set of skills ready to be applied to whatever field you're entering as well as to every other aspect of your life. Elon is great for students that care about more than grades but are still willing to work, want to succeed, make changes for the better and overall, be happy.

    The best Elon tradition is Leo Lambertâ??s, our presidentâ??s, Holiday party. He invites all students to his house, the week before winter break, for a Christmas party. There is great food, caroling and you can wait in line to have your picture taken with Leo. THEN he mails it home to your family in a Christmas card. Such a good PR move! Another fun Holiday tradition is the luminaries, when all the campus comes out for free hot chocolate, caroling, and the lighting of the campus. It's always a fun way to wrap up the fall semester and welcome the holidays. Unusual - West Dormitory is said to be haunted! Although I lived there and never had any ghostly experiences, it's an ongoing legend that Mary haunts 3rd floor West. It is said that she jumped out a window when escaping the great fire - HOWEVER this legend does not make sense since West Dormitory is supposed to be the only building to have survived the fire of 1923. But nevertheless, the stories continue and it's fun to blame her when weird stuff happens. If you make it up in time for brunch Saturday or Sunday morning, you'll see the maintenance staff hard at work replacing bricks. Bricks that had been stolen the night before. I guess it's an Elon tradition to steel a brick at one point or another - it is quite the nuisance for cyclists or walkers who trip before poor maintenance has time to replace them all!
    Bang for the buck

    In comparison to other private schools with a great reputation, Elon is fairly priced. However, it is still expensive and the tuition is rising. It's just important to apply for scholarships and aid and if Elon is the place you want to be, hopefully they'll help you make it work financially. Elon constantly tops the charts for being one of the best value liberal arts schools and is definitely going to be a name recognized by employers. The alumni base is really strong and the statistics about employed graduates are promising! Elon is no steal and for in state North Carolinians, it's very expensive compared to the state school options. But for those looking out of state elsewhere, especially at schools in the North East like I was, Elon is reasonable and worth it!
    What to do for fun

    Elon has a really great cultural calendar put out every semester with a list full of impressive speakers, shows and performances. The Student Union Board also does a really great job putting on activities such as movies on the lawn, late night meals, concerts, hypnotists and bingo games. Elon's beautiful lawns and great weather throughout most of the year are definitely conducive to good Frisbee games and outside time. You can rent bikes from Campus Recreation or take the Elon Bio Bus into Alamance Crossing to dine or shop! Elon is NOT a commuter school - nobody leaves on the weekends so there is always something going on. It's also kind of in the middle of nowhere, so people really do stick around and don't leave campus all that often. Freshman year, I hardly left at all. Sophomore year I had friends with cars so we would drive to the movies, out to dinner or to Target more often. Not much happens downtown Burlington but it is worth exploring on a Sunday afternoon! It's quiet but has a few cute furniture and thrift stores and a great Co-Op where a lot of people go for healthy, fresh food. All in all, I would say Elon really gives you no reason to leave campus - there is always plenty going on and enough fun to be had without having to go very far or spend any money!
    Food and Dining

    I think the food at Elon is great. There are definitely days where you walk through the dining hall and just aren't in the mood for it but those are the days you wouldn't want whatever your mom is cooking either. There are SO many options. McEwen has great pasta and stir-fry. If I'm in the mood for salad, Colonades is the place to go because it's a self-serve salad bar with every kind of vegetable you can imagine. There is a sandwich and wrap station, pizza station, great bakery, always cereal and milk and the meals of the day are usually really good. This semester Elon opened a new dining hall that is awesome. More vegetarian and vegan options too! If there is something particular you miss about food at home or are annoyed with the dining hall for, speak up! McEwen didn't have my favorite salad dressing - balsamic - so I wrote it down on one of the surveys emailed about the dining services and a week later, they had balsamic dressing! Take advantage of those opportunities to share your thoughts and concerns.
    Dorm Life

    My freshman year I lived in West Dormitory, the oldest dorm on campus, and all-girls. LOVED IT. Our floor was a family and my suitemates and hallmates, all assigned completely random, are my best friends still today. The housing at Elon is really great. In comparison to other buildings, and my dorm assignment sophomore year, my room in West was the smallest and crappiest but I would not change a thing about it. It's college and despite what you think, it really doesn't matter how nice or big your room is. It's the people you are surrounded by. And I think the older dorms have much more of a community than the newer ones. Sophomore year I lived in Colonades which are BEAUTIFUL modern dorms but the hallways are more narrow and the doors are heavy. It didn't matter much in my case because by sophomore year nobody was really trying too hard to make new friends, as we were all settled and had found our place at Elon, but as a freshman, West was perfect - everyone would leave their doors open and there would often be a bunch of us just hanging out in the hallway. Every dorm building has its own day-to-day ways of life. No matter where you choose to live, the residence assistants and area council will ensure that your experience is a memorable one. And it will be unique - my story won't necessarily help you and neither will anyone else's - your dorm life is up to you!
    Academic Rigor

    In my experience within the Communications, Spanish and Business departments, you will have to work hard but it will be meaningful and if you learn to manage your time, you won't be too overwhelmed. It is college. Your classes will be challenging. But you are not going to die. The class sizes are small enough that you know your professors, they know you, they genuinely care, they are willing to help and believe it or not, they want you to succeed. They also hold you accountable and you won't be able to skip class and hope they don't notice, or fall asleep in the back of the room. Elon does a really great job providing tools to help you do well. The tutoring center is available for assistance in all subject areas. There is a writing center for papers. You will survive and if you put forth the effort, you will thrive. What really makes Elon academically rigorous is the fact that the clubs and activities and extracurricular are so rigorous that the hard part is putting aside enough time and energy for class and homework on top of everything else! And I mean this in a positive way - as many or most of the clubs and activities provide great real world work experience or opportunities for networking within fields of interest. Or they at least ensure that you are happy, which is just as important. My point is that the average Elon student is very busy and involved with a full course load. And it is not easy, but it is manageable and you will get a heck of a lot out of it in the end.
    Tips for prospective students

    VISIT! Once, twice, three times if you have to! You'll know if Elon feels right to you. Take the chance to walk through the department that interests you, talk to professors and ask students about the characteristics of a university that mean the most to you. Class size, financial aid, dorm life, parties? Apply early action if not early decision. Early decision is binding, so if you're dead set on Elon and don't want to be anywhere else then by all means, apply early decision. But if you're not sure what they'll give you financially or still want to keep your options open, at least apply early action so that you have more time to make the right choice. Also, if you are eligible, definitely apply for any applicable fellows programs. I know that sometimes they're overlooked or you might not want to bother, but the fellows programs are amazing. At least read about them online and see if you're eligible and if so, can't hurt to apply! Do you know what you want to do? Elon is a great school no matter what your intended major is but I have to admit, it is not often I hear of an engineering major and in the case that I have, I think to myself - why? It is definitely very well known for its business, teaching and communications schools. You can't go wrong if you're interested in one of these areas.

    Elon University was the first of many schools I toured, but was evidently not forgotten as I'm in the second semester of my sophomore year here and cannot speak highly enough of the place I now call home. It is not only a beautiful campus but it's an incredible community full of life, love and support that will help you create the most incredible memories during the best 4 years of your life as well as build a strong foundation for a successful and meaningful life after Elon.
