Great for these types of students

Hardworking, Independent, Straight A's in high school, Previous experience in the Engineering field.

    Tips for prospective students

The classes at the University take a lot of hard work and dedication to pass. I started at 16 credit hours but found that taking 12 or 13 is best for me because of the work load. If you can buckle down and really focus on your school work then you will succeed. However, it is very easy to find other students who are willing to help you.

    Bang for the buck

Embry-Riddle has a very high cost of tuition. However, the University offers so many opportunities for the students that it is definitely worth attending. There is a career fair every fall held by the school that brings in top aerospace companies from across the country and all of them are looking to hire students for internships and co-ops.

    Am enjoying being here

The Daytona Beach campus has a lot to offer their students. There are so many activities and organizations outside of the classrooms that it's almost difficult to choose what to join. The school makes an effort to keep their students involved as well. The greek organizations and the greek community in general offer every student opportunities for advancement. Also, the Daytona Beach area is full of life and activities that anyone can enjoy.

    Am learning a lot

As an Aerospace Engineering student I have found that learning at Embry-Riddle is based on your ability to teach yourself. Some professors are less willing to help than others, and often you must ask the right questions to get what you need. You really need to sit down and review every day in order to learn and retain what the professors teach.

Great for these types of students

Engineers, pilots, anyone who likes aviation.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in extra-curriculars early, ther wise it's likely that you won't get involved at all.

    Bang for the buck

The school is expensive, but for aviation, there's not much else to choose from as far as universities go. The degrees are very specialized when compared to most state colleges, so it's your own opinion if it's worth the extra money.

    Am enjoying being here

There are many clubs and extra-curricular activities to participate in, if you want to that is. But in the area, there's not much that is computer or technology related in Daytona. Whether or not you will enjoy Daytona Beach really depends on if you like the beach and general Florida weather.

    Am learning a lot

This is a challenging school, and you can start taking classes relevant to your major, whatever it may be, in your second semester or year, depending on what classes you earn credit for in high school or community college. There are no real general education classes like in other schools, so a degree from Embry-Riddle is more specialized than a degree from other schools.

Great for these types of students

This university is perfect for anyone considering an aerospace career. Even if you're considering a degree in business, homeland security, or a different discipline of engineering, having a university such as this on your resume will no doubt get you any job you could possible want.

    Tips for prospective students

Anyone considering coming here should definitely do so, especially if you're considering a career in aerospace. This university is the best in the U.S. for what it offers and is definitely worth it. Just make sure you keep your grades up and make sure you aren't afraid to challenge yourself in high school.

    Bang for the buck

Even though Riddle is an expensive place to be, it's worth every penny. Riddle is all around an incredible place to be and you truly get what you pay for. All the labs on campus are top of the line, all the equipment used is brand new and anything you could ever possibly need is available for you somewhere on campus.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at this university. All the facilities are great, we're right next to the airport, and all the students here are so much more respectful than those of other schools. It's nice walking down the sidewalk and almost every person you pass smiles at you and says good morning, good afternoon, etc. All the students here have a profound respect for everyone and everything around them. It's also great being here when airshows come into town. This past weekend was the Embry-Riddle Wings & Waves Airshow and it was definitely one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Being the airport is right next to the university, all the planes used are housed here. It's pretty sweet when your sitting in class and you have F18's or F22's flying over the campus.

    Am learning a lot

As an engineering student, I've learned a lot in the 2 months I've been here. I realize I'm only a freshman, but all the professors here are incredible knowledgeable in every aspect of what they teach. We're not only being taught academics here, to be successful in college you also begin to pick up leadership skills that will help lead to a better future.

Great for these types of students

students who are fine with a handful of great friends. students who hate snow and love the beach. students who are fine chilling and don't need big parties or tons of stuff to please them.

    Tips for prospective students

Get financial aid and apply for scholarships. Get some good friends. Study. Classes aren't brain killers by any means but can catch you off guard if you're not keeping up. do your best to have fun. You can find it if you look. It's more difficult to find at embry, but its there.

    Bang for the buck

Let's be honest. Embry is extremely expensive. It is a good school. It has good connections and good education. But tuition is outrageous and if you are flying as well, you're looking at prices matching those of ivy league schools. Embry is good, but not that good. Get some financial help if you're coming here. Otherwise your debt will eat you.

    Am enjoying being here

Let me be clear. There is not much to do in Daytona. The school has no girls, only one frat has a house, most people are either extremely uptight or terrible at socializing. Because of all this, there are no parties. I came from a school where there were five or six parties of over 200 people at the frats every weekend and the biggest I've seen at embry was 50, with maybe 15 girls. If you want to party, dont come here. If you are going to come, find a couple good friends, people you click with. They'll keep you sane.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are very good. Some you may hate but the fact is it's college and you're going to have to put in some level of work. But most of that work is made fairly easy by the staff. For the most part all of the professors I have had have been friendly approachable and helpful. There's always an exception but such is any school.

Great for these types of students

Great school for Aviation Maintenance Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering (w/ focus in Robotics)

    Tips for prospective students

Tip # 1 Get a good amount of sleep. I had two 8 am classes my first year. Teachers will lecture whether you are awake or not Tip# 2 Do your work within a reasonable amount of time. A lot of people will procrastinate. The result is a mediocre grade if not an F. Tip# 3 Get involved. Recruiters for internships are looking for people who are actively participating in activities relating to their major, not just the 4.0 student although a good GPA helps tremendously.

    Bang for the buck

Riddle is the best institution in the world for Aerospace engineering majors by far. Everyone will tell you its expensive but its definitely worth it. I have personally talked to Senior Aerospace Engineers and recruiters for Boeing and other Aerospace giants. Riddle is the place to be.

    Am enjoying being here

Daytona is a good area for school not to mention ERAU is conveniently located across the street from a Kmart, down the street from a Walmart, as well as next door to an airport. The beach is beautiful and a cool place to hang out.

    Am learning a lot

The professors at the Daytona Beach Campus are the best. I just completed my first year and I assure you it is a challenge from the start. However, don't let that deter you from coming to the Daytona Campus.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who loves aviation and flight. This university is located directly on an airport where hours and hours are spent at learning hands on. Also, this university is located at Daytona Beach where there are many outdoor activities to be had and clubs and organizations to be joined.

    Tips for prospective students

Truth is, this college is very expensive and a very specialized one. Make sure that this is what you want to do first because a few undesired years hear, could put you in the hole for a while.

    Bang for the buck

ERAU is rated as the top school, ahead of the United States Air Force Academy, as the best aerospace school. This reputation of its says a lot about their curriculum and studies.

    Am enjoying being here

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University .. at where? Daytona Beach! Yes, that is right Daytona Beach. What is there not to enjoy?

    Academic Rigor

Embry Riddle has some of the finest professors around, with no graduate students teaching classes, and top of the line laboratories and tons of hands on experience, there is no other college or university to compare to this one.

Great for these types of students

Mature, dedicated and hard working students especially if interested in AE (engineering) or AS (professional pilot).

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely make sure that you are absolutely dedicated to whatever degree program you come here for. If at all possible take your gen.eds at a community college or something BUT FIRST MAKE SURE THEY WILL TRANSFER!!! I transferred with almost a years worth of credits, so I saved myself about $40,000. Also, the library is a happening place especially during finals!!!! :]

    Bang for the buck

You are paying for a reputation, a reputation that is well known through the aviation industry. I had an english professor who owned a flight school off campus and he was in the process of hiring a CFI. He had 3 people apply for the job... one person with over 2,000 hours, another person with a degree from a local flight school with 1,000 hours and finally there was a ERAU graduate with less then 500 hours. Who do you think got the job? Having a degree from ERAU exemplifies the quality of your education, and makes you as a student highly marketable after graduation because of the schools reputation. Yes it is expensive, but think of it as an investment in yourself. And it should not be long until your investment, pays off.

    Am enjoying being here

One of my professors told me that the Blue Angel's have a meeting every morning and before each flight... he said that before any one of the Blue Angel's talks that each one of them always say I am happy to be here, and I will fix it. Sometimes I wish the weekends did not seem so long because of my lack of ability to get anywhere off campus; however, this semester the weekends are not long enough... I cannot imagine myself being anywhere else. Did I mention that I love to fly? :]

    Am learning a lot

ERAU has the best Aeronautical Science program in the country. I could not be more pleased with my education...

    Campus Safety

safety on campus is great. they offer escort services at night, emergency services such as car battery jumps, they will provide you with a way to get gasoline if you run out. they provide many other services to ensure that the students and their property remain safe.

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many clubs and activities already on campus: academic clubs, athletic clubs, social clubs, aviation clubs. but the rule on campus is, if there isn't a club for what you want, make one!

Great for these types of students

riddle is great for students interested in engineering, aviation, or pretty much any technical degree. all major classes have an aviation focus, so students with any interest in aviation (even if its from the business perspective) would fit in great here!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the biggest tradition on campus is our spirit rock. this rock is located near the student center, and it is always covered in spray paint. different on-campus organizations, teams, and individuals will go out at night just to paint this rock. greek life will paint about rush events, sports teams will paint about upcoming games, individual students will paint about birthdays, anniversaries, and other things.

    Bang for the buck

riddle is a private school, so it definitely is not cheap. however, you do get what you pay for. the professors here know what they are teaching, and enjoy teaching. job placement out of riddle is especially high, and riddle graduates are looked highly upon by companies such as boeing, spacex, northrop-grumman, and many others.

    What to do for fun

touch-n-go productions (an on-campus student organization) arranges many activities throughout the week. every thursday night, we have free movie night where they show hit blockbuster films. so far this semester they have shown movies such as money ball, real steel, and 50/50. many other organizations put on events throughout the week as well.

    Food and Dining

food on campus is amazing. we have a chickfila, an einsteins brothers bagels (some of the most awesome people work there), a starbucks, an all you can eat buffet, a typical cafeteria, and many other options for food on campus. there are options to use your meal plan at every dining location, however you can also pay with cash, credit, or debit card.

    Dorm Life

for freshman, i definitely suggest trying to get a room in mckay. the rooms resemble rooms you would find like at a days inn or a mid-range hotel. you split a bedroom and a bathroom with one other person, and a common area with two other suite mates. campus housing does a good job of matching people with similar interests up as roommates.

    Academic Rigor

courses are very tough, very hands on, and very focused. however, because of the small class sizes, professors will get to know you, and will do their best to help you succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure your math skills are very sharp as they will help you succeed in the classroom. also, a trip to campus is a must, just to make sure the location is a fit for you.

    In three sentences

embry-riddle aeronautical university (riddle to current students) is the top aviation and aeronautical engineering university in the country. we are a very diverse campus, hosting students from all around the world. however, we are also very small, at only about 5,000 undergraduate students.

Great for these types of students

Self-motivated, smart students who can manage their time and education well. ALSO: the school administration SUCKS!!!! If you cannot handle dealing with administrators and fixing errors and going through the riddle run-around back and forth to different offices (none of which know whats going on), I suggest you start from day one learning how this school operates and GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!!!

    Tips for prospective students

If you do not have strong willpower and a set goal to work towards, this school is probably not the best choice for you. If you plan on studying engineering, make sure you know how to study and learn on your own before attending.

    Bang for the buck

The embry-riddle name is a great asset to have on your application - many companies will hire you just on the fact that you made it through the school; however, the cost does not mean you will always have a state-of-the-art education experience. Often you will find yourself in charge of your own education, having to learn on your own. Also, there is very little - if any - financial aide. The engineering classes are worth the money (if you get a good teacher), but classes in other departments are WAY overpriced. Remember that YOU are the one paying for it and the teachers and staff WORK FOR YOU. Make sure they are working hard for their money and take advantage of every resource available!!!

    Am enjoying being here

The university is very diverse and you can learn a lot about different people and different cultures. Remember that most of what you learn in college is learned outside of the classroom. There are tons of things to do here and tons of amazing clubs you can join.

    Am learning a lot

There is A LOT of material to study and you need to study extra stuff on your own to be successful. If you cannot commit to studying EVERY DAY then pick a different school.

    Tips for prospective students

    Bang for the buck

i recommend having a scholarship if planning to attend here while it can be costly it is more than worth it especially for the flight program

the dorms are nice even the freshman dorms i spent a week in apollo hall and the facilities were spacious clean and not crowded at all it was a great experience.

Great for these types of students

White Republican males who want to fly planes.

    Tips for prospective students

Look at other schools. Cheaper and more diverse ones with a similar or better reputation. Also, even though they're famous for their Aerospace Engineering major, the focus is definitely on aeronautics. Everyone is into planes, not spaceships.

    Bang for the buck

It is waaayy to expensive. In my opinion, it's not worth the cost.

    Am enjoying being here

I don't enjoy it at all. Being a girl surrounded by guys is absolutely miserable. Don't underestimate the effect that has on your grades- or mental state.

    Campus Safety

since the first time that i stepped on campus, there has never been an instance when i felt unsafe. campus safety does a great job at protecting students from outside influences and are always on watch.

    Greek Life

walking down the pathways of the university you will without a doubt see fraternity and sorority members wearing their jerseys. the main cafeteria is filled with their emblems on the top walls.

    Clubs and Activities

there is an amazing variety of clubs on campus. the best part is that if you do not find a club which fits your interest, then you may start your own.

Great for these types of students

in general this university is great for students who aspire to join the aviation business, and are very outgoing and social.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the most unusual tradition would have to be the group of orientation members. if there is a game day, you better expect a bang on your door from hyperactive and jolly orientation members(the o team).

    Bang for the buck

embry-riddle is worth every penny. the curriculum is a great, the campus life is great, but the best part of all is that the teachers do care about how their students are doing. if they see you having trouble, then expect an email or call from you instructor to verify that you are alright.

    What to do for fun

there are many clubs on campus, which help past the extra time. embry-riddle students have created clubs that very from paintball squads to hockey teams. the atmosphere on campus is great, and as long as you open yourself up to new experiences you will have fun.

    Food and Dining

the university has a variety of food and dining places. it varies from buffet styled to cafeteria styled places. although the food is good, it would be nice to have additional dining places and better quality food.

    Dorm Life

at embry-riddle the dorm life helps you become a professional at your desired major; for instance, if your objective is to become a commercial or airline pilot, then you will be adapting yourself to waking up early. of course there are parties like in every other university, but the dorm life helps you become responsible about you obligations.

    Academic Rigor

the academic curriculum at embry-riddle is incredible. if your aspiring to be a pilot, then this is the perfect place because the classes are all about aviation. without a doubt this school has the best aviation classes in the country.

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students must be ready to work hard and fast. the material is giving fairly quickly, but the quality is tremendous. it would be best if incoming students begin to develop study habits, and learn to ask questions in order to get the material.

    In three sentences

embry-riddle has a way to make out-of-state students comfortable with the new environment. they also provide an organized flight program, and everything on campus revolves around the aviation world. the best part of all is that the flight training begins right away.

    Campus Safety

ERAU is keenly conscience of safety. Systems and practices are in place to ensure the safety of students, faulty, and guests. Examples include the escort services, emergency call boxes around campus, campus security officers, and the online alert system.

    Greek Life

    Greek life is definitely available!

ERAU is located adjacent to the Daytona Beach Internal airport and the Daytona International Speedway. ERAU Daytona is also near two other colleges which offers additional opportunities for networking, fun, and dating. Another special place on campus is the interdenominational chapel.

    Bang for the buck

ERAU definitely gives you bang for the buck! ERAU is a higher cost school and worth every cent! ERAU offers strong academic options and attracts major aerospace and industry employers. ERAU hold career fairs each semester. Most ERAU students are hired into the industry following graduation.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining options are endless. ERAU offers some traditional food options on campus such as Chic Filet, Starbucks, and Einstein Bagels. My favorite are the dining halls because the food is everything to basics to gourmet. In fact, if the menu doesn't include one of your favorites or preferences, ask and it will be provided in 48 hours. This is especially cool for international students who want something from back home.

    Dorm Life

Phenomenal is the best way to describe dorm life at ERAU! The dorms offers a variety of floor plans and affordable options. The RA's coordinate events and outings to diversify the opportunities for networking and FUN! Roommates can be selected by the student or matched through a lifestyle preference survey. Parking is also available if you bring your car. Most students bike or skateboard around campus. I highly recommend that students live on campus at least one year.

We are about a quarter of a mile from Daytona International Speedway and we have a lot of other activities. We are 4.3 miles from the beach ad we have clubs and ice skating near the college. There are a ton of restaurants and on campus we have sand volleyball courts and racquetball courts.

    Food and Dining

The food is ok, it just depends where you go. We have two dining facilities a buffet and then like an almost anything you could want place. then we also have a Starbucks, a burger place, and a chic-a-fil

    Dorm Life

you get to meet a lot of really cool people from all over the world. All the freshman dorms are in the middle of campus so you are close to everything.

    Academic Rigor

Embry Riddle is hard but it is worth it. Embry Riddle would not be number 1 in Aerospace Engineering if it weren't.

    Tips for prospective students

the best advise I can give prospective students is not to procrastinate because deadline come up fast and you do not want to be pulling all nighters. Also just because you did good in high School does not mean you'll do as well in college, college is a whole different ball games but its interesting.

    In three sentences

Embry Riddle is a great college to further your Aviation/engineering dreams. The class are small and the teachers are super nice and helpful when you have questions. plus there are amazing activities near the campus and amazing clubs to join on campus.

Great for these types of students

Riddle is great for people who love learning, to push the limits of technology and to be on the cutting edge of discovery. Much of what is done at riddle is new science. If you want to be a scientist or engineer than the staff offers many opportunities to work with the new theories of the worlds scientists. If you wish to be a flight student the flight line offers ample opportunities to learn as well.

    Tips for prospective students

A few hints for prospective students: If you go here remember that the professors will keep pushing you and that doing the homework is very important. Do it. Take the classes seriously. People who slack are eliminated very quickly here. Get involved in the campus if you do not, you will miss out on the opportunity of a life time.

    Bang for the buck

The price of classes is expensive and it may not seem worth the extreme tuition, but remember that it is Riddle. Riddle is know around the world for being the best. The classes in the beginning may not seem worth it at first, but the classes after the first year or so are more than worth the cost, and you will come out of Riddle with a reputation of excellence. The meal plans are not worth the money, Stick with the most basic and if you are still hungry make a walmart run.

    Am enjoying being here

The student life at Riddle is pretty lively. There are facilities for different sports such as tennis, racquetball, basketball, baseball, and the different forms of track. The campus has a production company that hosts a movie once a week, and there are many clubs and organizations on campus to get involved in. If you can't find a club that fits you then you can start your own, the student government will even help fund it.

    Am learning a lot

Embry-Riddle is all about teaching you what you need to know about your major. The classes are informative, cover a wide variety of topics. Each class is very in depth and covers the materiel well. Most of the professors are good at their jobs, however some are difficult to follow. If you love to learn, this is the place to be. An Important note: The professors usually love what they teach and it shows.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is nice as long as you follow campus rules. Park where you are supposed to park, don't drink underage, and be quiet during quiet hours and you will have no problems.

    Greek Life

Definitely, join a fraternity or sorority. There is incredible networking and lifelong friends!

    Clubs and Activities

There are sooooooo many clubs! There is a club for every student on campus and if you can't find a club that suits you, you can start your own! I'm a founding member of two clubs at Riddle already and I am just going to be beginning my junior year.

Great for these types of students

The library is a good place to study if you really need to do work. But if you are looking for a super quiet place to do work I recommend using the second or third floors. The first floor can get a little chatty.

In the middle of the night students will paint something called the Spirit Rock located outside of the UC - main dining hall and home of the SGA. You can paint whatever you want on it as long as it is appropriate and there is an unwritten rule that anything that gets painted on it should stay up for 24 hours until someone else paints over it.

Mehh. After your freshman year, DEFINITELY get an off-campus apartment. They are less expensive and more fun. :)

It's tough. But it's worth it to have Embry-Riddle on your diploma!

    Tips for prospective students

    Tips for prospective students

One word. Adaptability! Embry Riddle is an experience that will throw you for a whirl wind ride. All the preparation in the world is really only going to get you so far. Just be patient with yourself and be assertive! Remember, it's better to ask twice then to lose your way once. No one is going to hand you a thing out here. You absolutely have to work for it. Personally I went through many different moments that opened my eyes, made me reflect on aspects of my attitude, and simply change. I wouldn't have it any other way.

    In three sentences

For starters it's a private university so get ready for a hefty price tag. However the quality of education and curriculum is outstanding!! Embry Riddle will present countless opportunities to grow into an assertive person of strength, responsibility, and poise.

If you like science, flying, engineering, math or anything technical, come on down!

    Tips for prospective students

DO NOT SKIMP ON THE STUDY!!! Many time I have found myself cramming for the test at the last minute and it bites me in the rear in the end. Also, MAKE SURE YOUGO FOR SCHOLARSHIP MONEY. I cannot stress this enough, especially if you are a flight major.

    Bang for the buck

Well, with any school, education costs cashola, with Embry Riddle they definitely ask you to pass that cash, but you are also getting the top teachers from around the world, I know a physics professor who wrote his own textbook and it is very widely used along with a meteorology teacher who used to forecast the entire atlantic ocean on a daily basis for years. You simply are getting the best teachers here, but man is it expensive.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the vibe of the campus and it feels somewhat like a big university even though it is so small. Everyone is friends here and they stay that way. A very tight knit community.

    Am learning a lot

As a kid that has wanted to fly all of his life, there simply was no other option than the top aviation school of the world. I am taking classes that keep me engaged, even though it is more of a boring subject. I really like learning here.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe! I have never heard of anything alarming from students or the university. They have 24-hour patrollers and a direct number you can call for campus safety.

    Greek Life

I am giving this 3 stars because I am not in Greek Life. I have heard it is great to be a part of, however, and many of my friends enjoy it. This is a small university so there are not many to choose from, but if you get involved I'm sure it would be great.

    Clubs and Activities

There are quite a bit of student organizations that you can join. You can find anything that suits your interest and join! Even if you don't, you can get a couple friends and start one yourself. They are great on campus and I highly encourage joining at least 1!

Great for these types of students

Aviation enthusiasts! Even if you don't want to be a pilot, there are many programs that either tie in aviation or are directly concentrated in the aviation field.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a spirit rock near our student center that gets painted all the time for school games and many events. Anyone is allowed to go paint it (usually secretly at night) so that it can be shown off the next day for whatever reason.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is probably the worst aspect of this university. However, it has a good reputation and I feel like I am getting a quality education that will be recognized. Although it is very high, it will definitely pay off in the end.

    What to do for fun

If you get involved on campus, many student organizations have activities that are fun when you join! Additionally, the beach is nearby which is always a fun place to go to. Orlando is about an hour away where you can find Universal and Disney World parks.

    Food and Dining

If you live in the dorms, there is a cafeteria with many kinds of foods that are usually pretty good. On campus there is also an Einsteins, Chickfila, Starbucks, Freshens and other vendors that are great!

    Dorm Life

I'm giving it 3 stars because I did not live in the dorms. From what I have heard, it is not bad at all. Many people meet their first college friends in dorms and stick with them for life.

    Academic Rigor

Courses are very good here. They are taught by knowledgeable professors and are usually quite small, which gives you an advantage. They can be tough, but there are plenty of tutoring and other services available to students for help.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to take it easy on your first semester and don't take more than 14 hours. College was a shock to me my first semester after high school, as I was not prepared for the difficulty level. Also make sure to get involved on campus and with student organizations!

    In three sentences

After spending my first college years at a major public 50,000+ student university, I have come to love Embry-Riddle for many reasons. It is much smaller, offering chances to get to know your professor and peers which increases your learning experience. It is also located in a very nice area, the beach is nearby, Orlando and theme parks are not far away which all makes it an ideal place to attend college.

The ones in involve with are: Orientation Team, Society Women Engineers, National Society of Collegiate Scholar and American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Great for these types of students

Students who like sciences, engineering and aviation is highly recommended to attend Embry-Riddle.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is this tradition of painting the famous spirit rock, where any organization can advertise their events, or also anybody that wants to express something they can do so in the spirit rock. There is only one rule, that you must wait at least 24hours until you want to paint the rock again.

    Bang for the buck

It is a really expensive school, but If you really want to be involve in the Aviation and Aerospace industry it will be worth it!

    What to do for fun

Since this is an Aviation oriented school what better to do than to go flying. If you are not an Aeronautical Science major, you will probably have some friend that is a pilot and would love to take you to fly!, you can also join clubs that do a lot of activities for volunteers. The school hosts social events around campus, with food, prizes and games! Really fun, you can get prizes through the Bonus Bucks Events! There are also two night clubs for those who like to go partying outside campus.

    Food and Dining

It definitely needs to improve the variety and healthy of food. If you are the type of person who loves to eat junk food, there are three places on campus that serve that type of food. If you are like me that normally eat at home, and healthy food too, the most similar to home made food is the buffet. Although if you live off campus or in the dorm with kitchen I will suggest you buy your own food and make it as you wish!

    Dorm Life

Its was great way to make new friends, plus you will meet a lot of people from every corner of this planet! My freshman friends were mostly from Africa, Philippines, Latin America, and some people from Indonesia! Crazy, you can find people from everywhere from the U.S. to the world. As everything it depends on how you approach the people and how friendly you are in order to get to meet new people!

    Academic Rigor

This school is very demanding. You have to keep up with the classes, the material, and the professor. In my freshman year, I was studying the majority of the time; although I'm majoring in Aerospace Engineering so this academic rigor may vary depending on the major.

    Tips for prospective students

    * Do your homework ahead of time. Don't procrastinate. * Study the lesson prior to the class. * Go to tutoring available for Math, Physics, ES Courses, if you need so. * If you are a party crazy person, this school might not be for you. Everyone here is really focused on school, although there are some crazy people too. Not too much to go around, plus the school keeps you busy. * Try to buy the books at Amazon.com or Half.com not in the bookstore of the school. Books are normally more expensive at the bookstore that in online sites. * You can find the syllabus of classes online, so you have an idea of how the class is going to be. * Don't bring too much clothes (specially girls) because the dorms are not that big, and you have to share the closet too!

    In three sentences

Embry-Riddle is an Aviation oriented University. This university has the number one program in Aerospace Engineering. It is the most prestige university in the area of aerospace and astronautics.

    Bang for the buck

You get alot of bang for the buck you put forth here. There is alot of buck being put forth but, there are many ameneties that in general you will not have in many other places.

    What to do for fun

In Daytona there is not that may things to do within the city, you pretty much have to pick up a sport, find good friends to hang out with, pick up a hobby, join a club,or go to Orlando to do other things. In general you have to make your own fun.

    Food and Dining

The food has definitely been improved after much personal deliberation between the student body and the food provider, Sodexo. There are a fair amount of places to get food around campus: the buffet, Chick-Fill-A, the cafeteria, Propellers, and Einstein's Beagles. The staff that mans all the posts are always willing to serve you well as long as you treat them with the respect they deserve.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is definitely as expected but, without everything that parents fear. Privacy is there, safety is there, and they almost always get the pairing of roommates right, just make sure to fill out truthfully the personal profile and questionnaire that way you get a roommate that is compatible with you.

    Academic Rigor

This is not a school with an academia that can be categorized as a walk in the park. You must put an effort into the classes you are taking, but the reward and feeling of accomplishment in the end will be worth more than triple any effort you could provide.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in club life on campus; it will give you something to do in your free time and also contribute to gathering connections for your college life and beyond.

    In three sentences

Fantastic school! The professors are challenging thus, you have to step up to the plate if you are looking to succeed here. The location is perfect for the college life at this school and with the expanding campus there is always something to do.

    What to do for fun

The possibilities are endless here at Embry-Riddle. Especially since you are in Daytona Beach, Florida. You can always expect to see people in the pool and also people playing volleyball. If you have a little extra cash and a pilot friend then go ahead rent a plane and do what most people only dream of doing, go flying.

    Food and Dining

The food is well an acquired taste. In the beginning it can be really delicious and you cant get enough. However, as the days become weeks and weeks become months the food will eventually become dull and not appetizing. There is hope. There is a place called Einstein's bagels where the food is always good, and you can expect a great meal each time

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is very exciting for new students. It just so happens that all first year students at Embry-Riddle are required to stay in dorms for the first year. Dorm life is where you will meet most of your friends and probably your buddies until you graduate. Here at Embry-Riddle they treat every resident with respect and the same care no matter what ethnicity or race.

    Academic Rigor

Embry-Riddle has a high expectations of all students and staff. The academic standards here in this school are set pretty high, yet high enough for students to reach them. Here at Embry-Riddle whatever you put in for work and studies is what you can expect to come out of your grade. Meaning if you work hard and study hard you can expect that A+ and vise-versa if you slack off.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are coming here to become a pilot then you have chosen the right school. Study up on how planes work and familiarize yourself with everything that has to do with flying. Familiarize yourself don't become to worked up on knowing everything just yet. Be prepared to work hard on all classes because this school is pretty tough in terms of the academic side.

    In three sentences

Embry-Riddle is a perfect school in terms of flying and careers in the aviation industry. As most people say Embry-Riddle is the Harvard of the skies, and that great pilots come from here. The environment here is so professional, yet fun at the same time.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is always riding around and there to help even if you get your keys locked in your vehicle!

    Clubs and Activities

Embry-Riddle has tons of great clubs from skydiving to Flight teams. Plus all that other normal stuff a regular college has.

Great for these types of students

ERAU is a great match if you have an interest in aviation, are ambitious, willing to do your work and focus. Lots of people come here and decide they want to change their major from one aviation aspect to another. That's okay!! Do what's right for you.

    What to do for fun

Embry-Riddle has a club for everything and if they don't have what you're interested in, you can start it yourself! We're right down the road from the beach so take advantage of it.

    Food and Dining

I can't say much about the dining because I don't have a campus meal plan. I have however been to the cafeteria often and from my experience it's very nice! From what I've heard though unless you eat tons, don't get the 21 a week meal because you have TONS of food.

    Dorm Life

I've had an.... interesting experience in the dorm. Everyone is very friendly and we all get along great and do things as a group. If you're shy, seize the chance to communicate! You'll make friends that you will never forget.

    Academic Rigor

My experience thus far has been a summer semester in which all of the work is compacted into a month and a half. Either way when you come here, make sure that you're on top of things. If you focus and study you'll get your work done right!

    Tips for prospective students

Try to avoid the Riddle-run-around as we call it. Make sure you communicate with the same people in each department and stay on them about your documentation.

    In three sentences

With the exception of being so pricey, Embry-Riddle is an amazing school. It is an opportunity to seize for anyone that is interested in aviation. You are surrounded by awesome, knowledgeable people as well as experiences.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

I lived on campus the first year I attended Embry-Riddle. It was nice to experience the dorm life, but there were times where I felt i would be better off living alone, or with someone I could match myself up with. It can get loud at times and the building we were living in could have had better attributes to it. The positive side is that you are matched with people who are concentrating on the same major as you and that can be beneficial to your school work.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the classes I took were very interesting and gave me a good understanding of the operation of an aircraft. As students, you learn how to apply all the knowledge you learn in class to the real world task of flying an aircraft. Some of the classes may seem irrelevant, but the main focus is on professionalism. The school not only wants you to become a great pilot or engineer, the school simply wants to produce professional individuals that will carry the name of the school where ever they go. You get to work with state of the art equipment and the professors really take the time to make sure that each student's needs are accommodated

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for as many scholarships as you can to cover costs. It is a private university and flying can get extremely expensive. It is unpredictable. Be ready to work hard at maintaining a high academic standing because flight training does take some time out of your day. If you know your goals and have a strong determination, you will succeed.

    In three sentences

Embry-Riddle is an excellent school for anyone who has a fond interest in the aviation industry. For flight students, it is expensive but you receive the best training with top of the line training devices and aircraft.

We had a shooting that ended up on campus and no student or staff member got hurt, they are quick to respond. They also, are friendly and quick to help you out. The student branch of campus safety sucks, though.

    Greek Life

Alright, but Tri-Sigma girls are the worst. A decent amount of options for a small campus.

    Clubs and Activities

For the campus size, good. But, I would like to see more options. RC clubs are plentiful.

    What to do for fun

Go to the beach, do random things with the people in your dorm. Daytona is crappy, but you will find a lot of fun, stupid things to do. The lighthouse half an hour south is great late at night.

    Food and Dining

Good at the beginning of the year, and slowly gets worse as the semester progresses. They start to run out of money. Propellers works with meal plans, has the best food and the nicest workers.

    Dorm Life

    Tips for prospective students

Have a lot of money or a lot of scholarships. Manage your time wisely.

    Dorm Life

Personally I did not like dorm life because of my roommate. Yet, living on campus was very convenient. Just be sure to be open to living with new people.

There are sororities and fraternities, and APO -the unisex fraternity; also, no hazing allowed!

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of clubs and organizations, and always room for more... however, I was disappointed when the Anime Club's yearly Anime Con was banned from campus... back to the conservative bit I mentioned earlier about the school

Great for these types of students

Nerds.... intelligent peoples, engineers, pilots, anyone with a love for anything aerospace or aeronautic related

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We don't have an American football team... but our hockey team rocks =P

    Bang for the buck

4/5... There is a LOT of bang for buck, but some downfalls: this school is highly expensive, but not research-intensive enough, and recently the wireless was downgraded!

    What to do for fun

Lots of clubs, organisations, and greek choices! Hit the beach! Clubs! Travel to neighboring places like Orlando, Jacksonville, Georgia!

    Food and Dining

This is also a 3/5 situation... some places (main cafeteria, buffet) are hit or miss, some are renown for being best on campus (Propellers for burgers).

    Dorm Life

3/5 stars... dorm life is both a luck of the draw and what you make of it. The experience can be great, if you happen to land an excellent match in a roommate or if you select someone you know you will co-exist happily with. However, no matter what, dorm life is boring, irritating, fruitful, or fun.. depending on how you handle the situation. I do recommend not tolerating abusive roommates -feel free to report such incidences!

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor is there (hence why the school has such a great reputation in the field), but I like to believe there is always room for improvement which is why I selected 4/5 stars. I know for a fact that our physics/engineering and flight programs are more rigorous than other schools, which serves us well when we leave the academic environment and enter the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not take easy classes for granted! If anything, they are GPA-boosters -and believe me, when the classes increase in challenge -and they will - you will be glad you attained those easy A's!

    In three sentences

ERAU is low on female students, but is improving its male-female ratio. The school is conservative, but accepting and fair in treating of all types - abuse in any way, shape, or form is not tolerated! The education received here is well-known; attaining a job in the degree completed should not be difficult.

    Campus Safety

Plenty of security and also there are call booths all around campus that you can push a button and campus safety and security will respond immediately to.

    Greek Life

Fraternities and sororities are large and friendly groups that have a ton of activities throughout the semester.

    Clubs and Activities

Hundreds of clubs. There one for everything.

Great for these types of students

Great for those who are looking for intellectual stimulus with also those who are looking for an amazing experience. Outstanding for those looking to become pilots in any field or engineers. Embry Riddle has had the number 1 Engineering and aerospace program for several years!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Orientation parties all throughout the beginning of the semester. Homecoming week, Wings and Waves airshow, and a great place on campus is the new avaition complex observation deck where you can lounge, eat, study, and watch aircraft take off right next to you from a building literally on the airfield.

    Bang for the buck

For $40,000 a semester you get an amazing experience and what you paid for.

    What to do for fun

There are hundreds of clubs on campus to join that have loads of fun activities to be apart of. We even have a skydiving club! I myself am the Parkour community leader for Daytona Beach. There is a free on campus movie every Thursday night and its all new movies, never anything old. Also having the worlds most famous beach as the town the college is in there is a ton to do outside of campus. For starters the beach is only 3 miles away from campus!

    Food and Dining

Top Notch food and alot of it for what you pay. Getting a meal plan saves a lot of money at ERAU.

    Dorm Life

Its decent. Sometimes the building can be old and have a power outage once in a blue moon, but besides that its pretty easy living as long as you and your roommate get along.

    Academic Rigor

Its quite the challenge, but if you ca stay motivated and focused you will succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on coming to ERAU make sure you are willing to work hard and accept a challenge as well as the ability to have an open mind and ask a lot of questions. Also if you are looking for a college that where it is easy to make friends, ERAU is the place to go and through those friends you can sometimes make good connections with companies.

    In three sentences

Embry-Riddle is an outstanding college. The student life, living on campus, and dining services are great quality for what one pays compared to other colleges. Also the professors will work with you every step of the way through the course to see that you, the student, actually learn what is being tuaght to a point where you are the professional.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a lot. Seriously. I am still discovering more every day and I've been here over three years. Anyone will find something to do. Everything from building race cars to cooking to gun ranges and skydiving.

Great for these types of students

ROTC, anything to do with aviation.

    Bang for the buck

If your a pilot, ATC or engineer then yes. Not many other places to go for HS or HF. Just please don't come here and spend all that money and major in something like communications...

    What to do for fun

Athletics, Greek Life, ROTC if that's for you, Campus radio, student employment (some jobs can actually be fun) Touch N Go events. There is a long list.

    Food and Dining

    Could be better. Edible though.

    Dorm Life

Not as important after freshman year, hopefully you've gotten involved in something by then. Just make use of your freshman RA. Oh and I really think Doolittle is the best dorm for freshman. Period. McKay sucks just saying.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on major. Pilot is time consuming. Homeland Security is a lot of writing. Engineering is obvious. All have pros and cons.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep an open mind, don't let the angry upperclassmen alter your optimism with their pessimism. There's something of an institutional habit of down talking the school. Just keep that in mind. And get involved.

    In three sentences

Very good school academically, and plenty of extra curriculars, you just need to explore. If you don't you may not have a great time.

    Campus Safety

My roommate set of the fire alarm by burning popcorn in our dorm using the microwave. I don't know how that is possible, but it happened. We evacuated the room immediately and as soon as we got out the door, campus safety rolled up in their car to see what the trouble was.

Great for these types of students

Nerds. Great for nerds. Not saying only nerds go here (including me), but for engineering majors, this place is definitely for you.

    Bang for the buck

It is a very expensive school. I feel like I am spending money on unnecessary bills like meal plans (required for freshmen). Other than that, I think the tuition is worth it down the road in favor of the education and reputation of Embry Riddle.

    What to do for fun

This campus has a lot of beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, and soccer fields. There are also many extracurricular activities one can participate in.

    Food and Dining

The food could be better, but they do change it up everyday so there is a sense of variety. The way I look at it, it's better than my highschool's food!

    Dorm Life

My dorm (Mckay Hall) seems larger than other dorms I have seen. Doolittle Hall' has rooms that are too cramped for my taste. Since it's Florida some bugs tend to sneak in through cracks on the doors, but that's more of the environment. The rooms could get really humid if you don't bring a dehumidifier.

    Academic Rigor

This school definitely has a reputation for success in the Aeronautical field and I can see why. Classes are typically 20-40 students, so it's much easier to get help and understand material coming from the professors. The technology provided from the school also holds an advantage over many other Universities.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely manage your time with your school work (just like any other college). This school does provide tutoring almost every day of the week, and study rooms left and right so students can be successful. Studying with others also helps

    In three sentences

This school has a small campus, typically some one can cross one end to another in about 15 minutes. The environment has a productive feel to it, so studying and getting homework done won't be a problem. The students here are really nice.

Great for these types of students

If you come from a well-off family and you want to fly, go into the Air Force (but couldn't get into the AFA), and committed to your career path. Unfortunately, I don't think this is the case for most 18 year-olds

    Bang for the buck

I wish I could give it no stars! ERAU is so expensive....it just takes your breath away!

    What to do for fun

Head to the beach; or head to Orlando.

    Food and Dining

Propellers was the best food on campus...but they used to close early. Not sure if this is still the case or not.

    Dorm Life

The Student Village dorms are amazing....that's where I stayed for 2 years.

    Academic Rigor

I found my courses to be good, but not challenging. I was a human factors/Air Traffic Control major though. I'm sure it's a different story for the engineering students.

    Tips for prospective students

Research the field that you want to work in before attending. You may want to earn some credits at community college and pick up flight training on your own to help take some of the edge off the cost.

Campus Safety is great! We have patrol officers that monitor the campus at all times and help to make sure that students are safe. Also, students are encouraged and welcome to participate in the campus safety program. Everyone helps out!

    Greek Life

The Greek life here is spectacular! There are plenty of choices of fraternities. However, even though there are fraternities, the people that are in fraternities also make you feel welcome and are more than happy to make new friends!

    Clubs and Activities

Embry-Riddle offers a wide variety of clubs and activities that absolutely anyone may participate in! There's always something for everyone and even if you feel like there's nothing on campus for you, you're more than welcome to go to student services and start your own club!

Great for these types of students

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is honestly great for any type of student. As long as you're a hard worker and love what you're doing while you're here, you'll love every bit of what you're learning and only want to learn more.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At Embry-Riddle, we have this giant rock right outside of our cafeteria. Embry-Riddle put it there so students would spray paint it so that they me be able to freely express themselves any time they feel. I have only been here for one semester and I have already seen that rock change about fifty times!

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get what you pay for! The education here at Embry-Riddle is second to none and you definitely have great opportunities to meet future employers all of the time while getting a feel for the real world.

    What to do for fun

There is more to do than most people know what to do with! At Embry-Riddle the school provides entertainment and concerts almost every weekend, and if you really just wanna get off campus to find something to do you can go to the beach, ride go-karts, play miniature golf, go to a water park. Also, if you're feeling very adventurous you can take a nice stroll down I-95 and have a blast at Universal studios or Disneyworld! I went to Universal for Halloween Horror Nights and it was pretty scary, but I had an absolute blast!

    Food and Dining

The food on campus is great! We have restaurants such as Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, and Einstein's Bagels. However if you're just wanting a home cooked meal or just want the ability to make a simple salad, there are multiple salad bars and a buffet that has seasonal food as well as home cooked dinners and other great choices. They also serve many healthy alternatives for those who like to keep a very healthy diet!

    Dorm Life

I currently reside in Doolittle Hall at Embry-Riddle! I have thoroughly enjoyed living here with my dorm mate. There is such a happy community feel and you learn so much from all of the people around you. I have already met people from South Korea, Kenya, and other great foreign countries as well as people from all over the United States. The dorms themselves are very comfy too and fit two people comfortably.

    Academic Rigor

Students are definitely tested in their ability to learn here at Embry-Riddle. It truly is the Ivy League of the sky and any student's ability will be tested if they choose to go to school here. However, every last bit of schooling at Embry-Riddle is well worth the challenges you find here. All of the knowledge I already have about the world around me and aviation is phenomenal and I wouldn't trade it for a thing.

    Tips for prospective students

Check Embry-Riddle out! They have an amazing tour program where they show you around the entire campus and give you much of the details that you'll need before school starts. Also, make sure to apply for plenty of scholarships before coming to Embry-Riddle or any other school for that matter! You have no idea how much a few scholarships can make a big difference.

    In three sentences

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is the Ivy League of the Skies whenever it comes to flight, and any other field that may be associated with flight such as engineering and aviation business. Students receive the most well-rounded education possible through Embry-Riddle's general education courses while also allowing you to fly their mighty aircraft the very first day a student starts class. Embry-Riddle also does an amazing job of providing services to students 24/7 that are essential to learning.

This campus is very safe. There is security patrolling at all time to protect you and your belongings.

    Greek Life

I don't know much about the Greek life at ERAU so I'd rather not comment on it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs to join. There are honors, military, aviation, religious, and ethnic clubs. There are even special clubs if you like muscle cars or video games.

Great for these types of students

Future mechanics, engineers, electricians, pilots, meteorologists and air traffic controllers. Also ROTC

    Bang for the buck

I believe the room and board cost way too much, but the price for classes is understandable. Again, if aviation is your dream, this is the #1 school to fulfill it. It is a costly school, but it is sure worth it!

    What to do for fun

Campus is located less than a mile form the beach. The road that runs along the shore has multiple stores and restaurants to visit. If you like racing, the International speedway isn't far from the school either. If you want to go to an amusement park, Disney World is about and hour and a half away.

    Food and Dining

This is a small school so don't expect it to have the 3rd best dining hall in the nation. It doesn't have much variety to the choice of food, but what they do have is very good.

    Dorm Life

Not as great as I have seen at other school, but its decent. Some dorms and halls are better than others, but of course they are more expensive. The overall price for room and board is high.

    Academic Rigor

You really need to be an all A's and B's student to go here. You should excel in math and science especially. Some majors include communication classes, like air traffic management, but most majors will require that you take calculus, physics and other science related classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep good grades if you think this is where you want to go. You really need to study and do well in school now in order to get into and do well at ERAU.

    In three sentences

Great school if it is your life's dream to do something with aviation. Otherwise, I would recommend going to a much cheaper school. Besides that, it is a small and friendly campus full of kind heart-ed people.

The spirit rock! Paint any spirit filled message or up coming events schedule on it!

    Bang for the buck

While Embry Riddle is an expensive school you do get bang for your buck. Class room sizes are small and professors are always there to help. Most professors know everyone in their classes name so there is always an opportunity with a one-on-one level outside of class for extra help with a professor who actually knows who you are. The learning experience is very hands on; Embry Riddle has its own flight line which is shared with Daytona Beach International Airport, so student pilots have the best learning experience. As for non-pilot students, lab classes allow for engineering students to get a full grasp on new topics.

    What to do for fun

Things to do for fun for Embry Riddle students while in Daytona Beach include of course the beach! This is always a favorite. Daytona Beach has many restaurants and Port Orange is a short drive away for a night to the movies. Orlando is also relatively close, about an hours drive.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining at Embry Riddle is restricted on campus. There are good places to dine and there is even a Starbucks attached to the library. However, to students living on campus, on campus dining facilities get over used and tired rather quickly especially during the spring semester. Although on campus dining gets old, there are many off campus restaurants and various locations near the school that students can take a quick trip to.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at Embry Riddle is present but seems to lack. There are two freshman dorms in the middle of campus and the others are in the student village across the street.

    Academic Rigor

Embry Riddle is a very academically rigorous school. Such can be expected from one of the nations top aviation and engineering schools. Attending Embry Riddle should not be taken lightly and students who plan to attend should expect to spend as much time as possible getting work done and studying even if it means pulling an all nighter!

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for prospective students would be to have a good idea of what major they are looking to receive a degree in so that they can get set straight on that path without having to keep switching majors and waste more time and money than necessary. Coming to the school with as many credits completed in general education classes as possible would be a good start to help get straight to core classes and learning about what they want a career in.

    In three sentences

Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach is a beautiful academic establishment which offers a wide variety of majors and minors for students interested in aeronautics. Embry Riddle is of course known for aviation and being one of the nations tops aviation and engineering schools, which having attended, I have been able to confirm. Although the cost of tuition is very high, it is definitely worth every cent.

    Bang for the buck

The school is a private school so it will be more expensive then a public school, but all the money you pay goes back to the students in new computer, gym equipment, and facilities; so it is great that you pay and the money returns to you in another way.

    What to do for fun

There are many different clubs to join from sailing club, to a sign language club and even the typical fraternities and sororities. When it is time to have fun off campus there is the beach and other location to go kayaking, go kart racing, and ice skating and much more.

    Food and Dining

The school has six different dining locations but after being here for a long time you will realize that more variety is needed.

This university provides enormous opportunities for student even when they are freshman. It becomes a challenge but it is very rewarding knowing you are part of many of the projects provided by the school. I am currently living at Doolittle, and one positive aspect about this dorm is that there are plenty of people willing to help you. On the contrary, sometimes there is a lot of noise, which particularly bothers me.

    Academic Rigor

Without doubt, ERAU is a rigorous university. If your dream is to become a pilot, be aware that you will need to work way harder than a regular flight school.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard, try to concrentrate in your subjects. Also, try not to take so much credits for your first semester, after this semester you can try if you think you are capable to take more credits.

    Tips for prospective students

The teachers and classes are great, but you need to get to know the teachers before you sign up for their classes. Try to be involved in as much as you can, and you might have to dig because most of the clubs dont do much publicity.

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of clubs to get involved in. There is also recreational activities that students can be involved in such as swimming and working out; the gym has a connecting outdoor pool- both of which are provided free to faculty and students.

    Food and Dining

With the required meal plan for every freshman, you get two meals a day, but each meal is pre-paid and woth around $7.00 a meal. It may not seem like enough food, but there is plenty of food considering it is not only an entree, but two sides and a drink.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at Embry-Riddle are fully furnished, but the temperature has to be extremely low (at Daytona Beach campus) so that the humidity does not create mold which can be uncomfertable at times. Especially when you take a shower and step out into a freezing room with even colder floors.

    Academic Rigor

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of student organizations on campus which have numerous activities for students to enjoy while taking a break from their work. The school's media organization has free movies once a week and the resident organization also has games and movies you can rent for free.

    Food and Dining

There are several places on campus at which you can eat including Einsteins, a buffet, Propellers Cafè, Chick-fil-a and more.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life varies from dorm to dorm but there are resident advisers who are willing to help you with almost anything from general campus knowledge to rowdy neighbors to homework. Some students live off campus if they can but it is very convenient to live on campus as its where club and group project meetings are usually held and its close to classes in case you sleep in.

    Academic Rigor

The lecturers teach you to the best of their efforts but most will not go out of their way to help you unless you ask. They are quite happy to help you in any way you need but you have to ask them for help. You will have to do all your work and avoid procrastinating to do well. Sitting down after classes and reviewing your work helps a lot. There are tutors for everything on campus, and older students are also happy to help.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take morning classes unless you're guaranteed to be up at 5. Even morning people aren't awake for these classes and you tend to miss out on important lectures. Do your work on time, if you have time in class to finish the work, finish the work in class, you have more time for other homework and more time to sleep. Try and get a goodnight's sleep every night. Frequent all nighters do not pay off ( I speak from experience) and you might find that coffee starts to lose its effect on you. Join organizations and clubs. It's a great way to make friends even for the shy people and you might get help and tips for homework this way.

    Food and Dining

Food at Embry Riddle is like at any other college or university: its rather bland. There are occasionally some good food items however depending on where you go. The chef who cooks the dinner entrees on week nights is an awesome chef and a cool person to talk to. His food is great with the best meals I've had at the University being made by him. My personal experiences with the buffet have not been good. Another restaurant on campus: Propellers grill is very good, their only down side is that they are only open for lunch on week days.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life is generally the same as at any college or university, Embry Riddle's campus is relatively small so depending on which dorm you are placed in you have a short walk, at the most its 10 minutes from the furthest dorm, to classes. Dorm Rooms tend to be 2 to 3 people each and for the most part are clean and well kept by the maintanence staff, however some dorm building are old and do have mold problems. Two dorms, Adams and Apollo, are were constructed in the last few years and are very nice.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University can be strenuous depending on your major as well as any minors you are taking. If your an Aeronautical Engineering major obviously your workload is going to be much higher than someone whose major is Human Factors Psychology, but generally across the board, Embry Riddle has a higher work load than most other schools and higher standards in order to achieve a 4.0 grade point average. One thing that will increase your workload and largely decrease your time available to complete your work is if you are taking a flight course. A student in a flight course generally has either a 3 or 4 day a week flight block in which the activities for your pilots license are completed. Each flight block is 3 hours and that does not include an preparation work you may have to complete before hand. Flight students will have to juggle their time between a full load of regular classes as well as the flight blocks so things can get pretty busy.

    In three sentences

Most likely the best school in its field, with professors who for the most part are experts in their field and have been performing the jobs we are currently training to do for the majority of their lives, great equipment, specifically the fleet of sixty airplanes owned by the university, and an incredibly diverse student body. Embry Riddle Aeronautical University looks like it will only get better as the university is acquiring an entire new fleet of aircraft. As for the buildings in Embry Riddle; for the most part they are relatively new, and new building projects such as the College of Arts and Sciences are nearing completion.

    Clubs and Activities

There are all kinds of things to do on campus. Mostly aimed toward engineering/science, but there are also many others like the surfing club, the sailing, club and all varieties of intramural sports.

Great for these types of students

    Dedicated. Passion for anything aerospace.

There is a huge stone stood upright in the middle of campus called the spirit rock. Clubs and organizations paint on it to promote their stuff. They get pretty creative sometimes. It really helps to brighten the campus. I think one guy even proposed from it once.

    Bang for the buck

Every graduated student that I've ever heard talk has made a point to say how easy it was (relatively) to get a job. Embry-Riddle has an exceptional reputation in the aerospace industry.

    What to do for fun

You're in Daytona Beach, Florida. What isn't there to do for fun? Obviously the beach. If you're a race fan like me, Daytona International Speedway is about a 10 minute drive away. They have a cool museum and hold all kinds of events. There are often things going on at the beach (they have a band shell) as well as various clubs on campus. Also, the school entertainment department Touch-N-Go has things going on all of the time. Including a movie showing (new movies) every thursday.

    Food and Dining

Feel like cafeteria food? Feel like Chik-fil-a? While i'm not a huge fan of several of them, there are a variety of places to eat on campus. These include: Chik-fil-a (yum), starbucks, propellers (grill), cafeteria (pretty decent), Einstein's bagels, student village buffet (pretty good), and the landing strip (salad bar, asian and mexican foods). If you're not feeling any of that, then there are many places off campus as well!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life here is pretty good. Compared to other unversities that i have visited, the dorms are quite nice. The RA's (resident advisors, there's one for about every 20 dorm rooms, upperclassmen) are very interactive and friendly. Maintenance requests are generally handled quickly and thoroughly.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on your selected major, this aspect varies. Engineering and physics majors are very rigorous while flight and mechanic majors are generally a little easier. Overall, though, Embry-Riddle is quite rigorous. This is why out-coming students have such a good reputation. Can you handle it?

    Tips for prospective students

If you're thinking of going to Embry-Riddle, first of all: make sure you know what you want to do. While Embry-Riddle has a fairly high acceptance rate, it has an astounding freshman dropout rate. Before you commit to spend 40,000 dollars on your first year of school, make sure that you're going to stick with it. If you make it through Embry-Riddle, you have an advantage in the job field, but if you can't, you've paid too much for a degree from another school.

    In three sentences

A challenging, rewarding university. Embry-Riddle has a great reputation for student excellence in the aerospace industry. However, tuition has a price tag to match it's reputation.

    Campus Safety

One thing you know about being on campus is that you are safe. Some safety officers are allowed to carry weapons, and unwanted characters are generally kept away from campus. For example, you can walk around at 3 in the morning and still be perfectly safe.

    Greek Life

I cannot say much about this, as I am not involved, but I do know that there are at least a dozen different Greek organizations here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are literally dozens of different clubs and activities to choose from, some more expensive than others.

Great for these types of students

The way that the school advertises itself, one might think it is a good school for the nerds and geeks, but it is actually quite the opposite. The jock population is very high here, and there is also a strong ROTC presence.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I really don't know of any.

    Bang for the buck

The program here is good, but you are really just paying for the name. The flight program is WAY overpriced, but it is the best in the world.

    What to do for fun

There are various activities throughout the week on campus, such as sports, movies, shows, etc. The main thing people like to do is go to the beach on weekends.

    Food and Dining

The food here is not too bad, but it isn't the best. There are various restaurants on campus that have pretty good food, but it is expensive. The best place to eat is the buffet because it has a decent variety and is all you can eat for a relatively low price (or one meal plan).

    Dorm Life

I only give it one star because of the hall I am in and the people I am around. The best hall to get is Adams/Wood. They are both on top of where the best food on campus is. Also, from what I have seen, the people there tend to be very friendly and inviting. Doolittle Hall is cold and looks like a prison block. The people here tend to be calloused and uninviting. As for McKay, it is an apartment style dorm, and it is not a very social hall, but I would recommend it over Doolittle.

    Academic Rigor

They only require a 2.0 GPA to graduate, but they do push for you to get a much higher GPA so you can get a job right after you graduate. They have various programs set up that help with this.

    Tips for prospective students

Come prepared for a work load. It is not easy. Also, do not expect everything to be perfect, as this school does tend to have some technical problems and there is a lot of construction on campus.

    In three sentences

It is a well-developed, technologically advanced school. The flight line has the most up-to-date and sophisticated equipment for its aircraft. All of the instructors do a good job teaching the material.

    Campus Safety

ERAU's campus has a laid back atmosphere. All student areas are well lit, and safety officers are always on patrol.

    Greek Life

There are many great opportunities in several different Greek organizations at ERAU. The Fraternities/Sororities at this school are not typical of what you would expect from what you may have seen in movies, or experienced at larger state schools. These are professional organizations that will expand your people skills and open up many networking opportunities. They also will provide you with powerful lifelong friendships.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 500 student organizations to pick from, and there is a fairly easy process to start one of your own.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Most of the student body has some sort of interest in the aviation field. It is not uncommon to see people looking up at the sky to watch the planes flying overhead.

    Bang for the buck

As a private university, ERAU is very costly. The flight program is more costly than getting a pilot license at a smaller airport FBO based flight school. However despite the cost, the training at ERAU is at a much higher level. Pilots trained at ERAU are seen as highly qualified and more desirable to employers.

    What to do for fun

    We live at the beach!

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria food or Chik-Fil-A. More options to come with the building of a new Student Center.

    Dorm Life

    Academic Rigor

ERAU has challenging degree programs, but a high level of learning. The flight program is top-notch, and very prestigious. The aircraft fleet is modern and well maintained. If you have an interest in any aviation field, ERAU has a degree program for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Join student organizations/greek life. Bring a car. Practice time management. Bring your beach gear. Leave the winter clothes at home.

    Campus Safety

Safety is the schools number 1 concern, they want all the students on campus to be safe so that they could get the best out of their college life. The school shows anti hazing and bullying videos to students, plus everyone here is already nice, this doesn't mean that the school has no incidents, it just means that there are not as many that go on.

    Greek Life

There are several sorority's and sever fraternity's on campus. They all treat the students respectfully and are not like the stereotypical Greek you see on TV.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs on campus it would be impossible to list them all. There are over 400 clubs and several events that go on throughout the semester. About every week there is more than 10 events going on a time, some small events and some large ones.

Great for these types of students

Its great for anyone interested in airplanes or space travel.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an on compass restaurant that sells the best burgers. Many of the pilots go there, but if you're a different major then it is still fine to go there. A great view plus a nice selection of food makes it a great place to hang out at.

    Bang for the buck

This school defiantly is worth the money, once you get out of the school you basically have job offers as you leave. The downside to this is that if you don't make it through all 4 years of college than you will end up having to pay off student loans.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and events on campus, I am part of 4 different clubs. There are over 400 clubs on campus which leaves a person room to join what ever club they want to be in. Plus we have events that go on every week, for example free movies on Thursdays.

    Food and Dining

The food is defiantly not like a nice home cooked meal, however it is prepared fresh everyday, and for freshmen we can normally eat at the buffet. This means that we can constantly get food whenever we like, as long as we have meal plans left.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life has its ups and downs. When you want to study, some days the dorms can be loud and full of people who want to talk. On the flip side, if you want to hang out with friends it is easy to be social with them.

    Academic Rigor

I'm currently a freshman at the school, and it has not challenged me so far. I am currently within 4 clubs and I am taking 6 classes, the school supposedly gets more challenging the farther up you go. For now the academic rigor has been fairly easy.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to your first year advisor and ask what type of classes you should be taking. If you try to select your classes without their guidance then you could end up taking classes that you don't need.

    In three sentences

Embry Riddle is an amazing school for people who want to do something special with their lives. Whether it be a pilot in an engineer, people who go here are given a vast amount of resources to do what they want. From robotics clubs, to sky diving clubs, this school has just about anything to make a student feel like they belong here.

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

I never lived in the dorms because off campus housing is super cheap. I have seen the dorms and they are pretty darn nice for a college with mainly guys. Everyone here(mainly) wants to learn and do their best; which makes it pretty quiet.

    What to do for fun

There is ALWAYS something going on on campus. There are volleyball, soccer and tennis courts all around campus. Student organizations are always putting something on like gaming tournaments, LARPs or go-karts. Touch-N-GO is our student entertainment organization the puts on a movie theater style movie every Thursday night with new releases for FREE. For finals week they did a relaxation event with FREE food, FREE bamboo plants, FREE massages, did I mention FREE? Our Homecoming is also a lot of FREE stuff. FREE food, FREE concert, FREE carnival with rides and games. Our athletic events are also FREE to students. There is also a lot to do off campus. The beach is a 10 minutes drive away, the mall is just across the street and tons of cheap tourist attractions.

    Food and Dining

Everyone at Riddle has their own opinion on the food. Sodexo is the company contracted for all the food. There is the UC which offers sandwiches, salads and hot foods. The buffet always has pizza and a salad bar with fruit and soup options. They offer a variety of foods from pork to tofu and themed dishes or breakfast for dinner. Other options on campus include Chick-Fil-A, Freshens, Salad Toss, a Chinese option or Mexican food in the UC, Einsteins Bagels in the Student Village, Starbucks in the Library or Propellers near the College of Aviation. As freshmen you will have a required 14 meal plans that can be used at all of these locations. After freshman year I would probably ditch the meal plan option and do dining dollars as it's cheaper.

    Dorm Life

The dorms on campus are close to the classrooms as the campus itself is small compared to larger schools. They offer traditional dorm styles along with hotel and suite style dorms. I live in Doolittle Hall which is the most typical of a dorm. It is a coed dorm with 2 to a room and 8 students to a bathroom. I was scared when I was first assigned to Doolittle with the thought of having to share with so many kids but it is by far the best dorm at Embry-Riddle. It is the closest to the classroom buildings, the pool, gym and Health Services. It is also the nest dorm to make friends in. You can always find someone with their door open, kids hanging out in the lounge or free food downstairs in the lobby. The other hall that has probably the second best location is Adams or Wood hall. They are located in the Student Village right about the Buffet. No college student could pass that up.

    Academic Rigor

Embry-Riddle's academics are rigorous, especially the engineering courses. The department works directly with ABET and you will be expected to meet standards set outside of the university. As an aerospace engineering major, I can say that the freshmen courses are challenging. However they are designed to benefit you not only in your academics going forward but to give you a well rounded understanding of all aspects of the field.

    Tips for prospective students

As a potential student you will want to weigh a couple of things when looking at Embry-Riddle. A degree from Embry-Riddle comes with a label of prestige that is great to have when looking for employment but the university is expensive. As a private university, the cost of attendance is higher than a public college however this allows them to give out a greater amount of financial aid. Make sure that if you choose to attend that you have worked out a plan to make it worth it financially.

    In three sentences

Riddle is without a doubt the best place to go to learn anything and everything about the aviation industry. Students can choose to learn about any sector, from engineering or maintenance science to flying planes or managing airports. The Daytona Campus offers a great on campus community with a great location in Daytona Beach that has a lot to offer college students.

    Campus Safety

You are safe on campus. Just stay away from motorcylces, there have been a high number of deaths on campus with students getting hit by cars... It's not worth it in my opinion. But otherwise they have the campus locked down.

    Greek Life

They are an unruly bunch for the most part. They get drunk and make a mocary of the Embry-Riddle name.

    Clubs and Activities

Ok so we all love planes here... like a lot. We all stop to stare at planes that are taking off from the run way all the time. We also are really close with each other and you want to get to know as many people as possible.

    Bang for the buck

It is really expensive, which is a huge reason why the retention rate is super low. If you can afford it then go. You will not get a better education anywhere else.

    What to do for fun

Make friends on campus because there is little to do off campus for fun. It is mostly restaurants but people off campus are pretty sketchy. Stay on campus if you can, trust me.

    Food and Dining

The food is mediocre, but there is always something to eat. The food is not exactly suitable if you are looking to eat super healthy.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are amazing! I love the people on my hall, we are the closest of friends. There are some people that are annoying, but you will be really close friends with the people in your hall. Shoot for wood or Adams hall, because they are the closest. Every other hall is pretty solitary. I am currently in Wood Hall 3rd floor and I would stay here with all of my hall mates for the full four years if I could.

    Academic Rigor

It is a tough program but it will prepare you for your professional career really well. The courses are tough, but if you put in the time it will be easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply to other colleges as well, for a back up plan, and look for every scholarship you can. Only go here if you know you can stay focused on just your education or you will have a rough time. And make sure you know exactly what you are doing before you get there, so that it will be easier on you, because the academic advisors will just mess everything up.

    In three sentences

Embry-Riddle is absolutely the best if you want to be an aerospace engineer or a pilot. The quality of education is unrivaled and the professors are all top quality. The academic advisors, however, are less than useful.

    What to do for fun

Since the school is in Daytona Beach, you will need a car for transportation to be able to go places since nothing is really walking distance. But the school offers some fun stuff some times, last semester for me (Fall 2013) they hosted a carnival with rides and games and it was really fun!

    Food and Dining

The food service is by Sodexo, and well, their not the greatest company. Every college has trouble with the school food, so let's just ignore this section.

    Dorm Life

It's nice and comfortable. There is new furniture being put into the dorm rooms, and new landscaping being completed outside to beautify the area.

    Academic Rigor

I'm a business student at the University and I have not encountered any hard challenges yet. I have obtained a 4.0 GPA and everything is going well for me.

    Tips for prospective students

Most students who will be staying on campus would not want to stay at the Doolittle Hall dorm, and that's because the bathroom is shared between four rooms with two students per room. But, whoever stays at Doolittle, I've seen they have a much faster, better, and closer friendship with other students because it's like they are forced to meet and greet your suitemates.

    In three sentences

This University is truly a non-profit organization because ever since I started attending the school, I constantly see new buildings rising for more classrooms with better technology, and better housing environments. The professors here are a great help and the campus is very safe! The only bad thing about this school is that it's in Florida where it rains a lot!

The food gets repetitive and you get tired of it. Overall, its pretty good.

The dorms are very small but you get to meet a lot of new people.

It is not hard if you have a good time management skills.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

Superb. The campus safety officers are always on the look out. We haven't had any incidents since I have attended.

    Greek Life

They have it but I am not in it. I hear that they are pretty fun though.

    Clubs and Activities

There is something for everyone! We literally have over 300 clubs on campus for everything you like.

Great for these types of students

Aerospace engineers or pilots in training. If you love either of those come here! We are the best for it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We all stop the second we hear a plane take off at the local airport and watch it fly over head.

    Bang for the buck

It is worth every penny if you have it. You cannot beat the education here.

    What to do for fun

Not much unless you're 21. You pretty much just live on campus...

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. It will get even better in the near future but for now it is fine.

    Dorm Life

I love my dorm. Everyone hangs out and gets to know each other and we always help each other out. Its great and the rooms are pretty nice as well.

    Academic Rigor

It is pretty challenging, but if you can make it and buckle down you will be the best of the best too.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you apply for a lot of scholarships! The retention rate at this school is very low because of tuition costs. Study all the time and use the tutors! They are a blessing to everyone.

    In three sentences

The college is great if you have the money. The professors are the best of the best anywhere. The faculty, however, are of no help and will most likely hurt your college career.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is a huge priority. There are emergency call buttons located all around campus. There is a program called Safe Ride; you fill out a form online and they will mail you a card. If you ever felt unsafe, on or off campus, you could just call the number on the card and they would come get you for free (but I heard you should give a tip). I've never used it, and I don't know anyone else who has, but I know you should not take advantage of it. There's a limited location they'll pick you up, but I know it includes all of Daytona Beach. Campus safety isn't anything to be worried about.

    Greek Life

It's everywhere. It's huge. So many people are apart of Greek life. I wasn't involved, so I can't say much. It's so noticeable though, especially on a small campus. They all eat lunch together and walk around together. Greek life isn't for me though, but if you are interested in it, it's definitely there. You will have no problem hearing about Greek life and getting involved.

    Clubs and Activities

This school says they have over 400 clubs, but hardly any of them are active. They have neat clubs like SCUBA and skydiving, but they are very expensive. The campus radio is very nice. However, the rest of the clubs are revolved around aviation and engineering. There is a PRIDE club on campus for LGBT students and allies; the school is very accommodating for LGBT students! For meteorology students, there are American Meteorological Society and Chi Epsilon Pi (Meteorology honor society) chapters, and SkyWarn came and did a training program to be a storm spotter. That was really nice, but there aren't many other meteorology students to make friends with. Weather is a HUGE passion of mine, and I was really looking forward to making other meteorology friends, but I made none. They were all more passionate about airplanes than weather. I feel like the major is there to cater to the ROTC students who are planning to be weather officers.

Great for these types of students

Aviation enthused and aviation enthused ONLY! If you are NOT passionate about aviation, go elsewhere. All of the classes are revolved around aviation and aerospace. You will looked at funny if you aren't a pilot, aerospace engineer, or air traffic controller. This school is also great for ROTC students, especially Air Force. Very military-friendly.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Rumor has it that you can go to the roof of the College of Aviation. I've never been here, but I wish I had. Also, there is a two-story flight observation deck in the Flight Maintenance building. There are outside stairs you can climb or you can go inside and go up. I hung out there a lot and ate lunch, did homework, watched the sunset, or even watched storms from a distance. Not many people are up there. Sometimes I'd be up there alone; it was lovely. It was probably the one thing I will really miss about the school. It overlooked the runway, and you could see the speedway. Really great place. I wish I could post pictures.

    Bang for the buck

Don't burn a hole in your pocket to go here. If you're on an ROTC scholarship, great. If you have the money, great. This school will not give you that big of an advantage, but it really is great for aerospace engineering. If you aren't passionate about aviation, don't go here. I came here to get connected to the space program, but I had no advantage. I'm going somewhere else where I can focus more on meteorology. Also, they are knocking down so many buildings. The campus is kind of a mess, and it will be for the next few years. They are rebuilding a new Arts & Sciences building, so some of your classes will be in trailers. They said it was going to be up for the Spring 2014 semester, but I hear from students that it isn't done. They are also going to knock down and rebuild the library, the student center, and the McKay dorms. You can definitely see where your tuition dollars are going. It was rather frustrating!

    What to do for fun

Bring a bike! There are bike lanes and sidewalks along International Speedway Boulevard, also known as ISB. Along ISB are a plethora of stores and restaurants, including a mall and obviously the speedway. It will also take you to the beach, which is about 3-4 miles away. You have to go over a GIANT bridge to get to the beach though, so I'd recommend finding someone with a car and driving there. There is a bus system that will take you all over Daytona and to Port Orange, which I heard is nice. I never used the buses, but one downfall was that there was no bus to Orlando. I was often frustrated because I couldn't find much to do with people; clubbing and partying was HUGE, but off campus. It really wasn't my thing, so it was hard to find people to hang out with. You won't be going to the beach as much as you'd think. I only went two or three times. You can also go to the Flight Operations building and ask to observe a flight. You get to go up in an airplane with a student and an instructor.

    Food and Dining

I got so tired of eating the same food every day. I loved the $100 in Sodexo bucks that you receive every semester; you can use these anywhere on campus and even select places off campus. Most students used theirs on Starbucks. They had vegan and vegetarian options every day, but for an entire semester I pretty much ate spaghetti, veggie burgers, fries, and salads. The meal plans are a rip-off, but aren't they at most other schools too? They charge pretty much $10 for a single meal which is only worth it at the buffet if you eat three plates. Even people who aren't veg complained about eating the same food every day. Also, the food wouldn't really be prepared on time when the cafeterias would open. They served breakfast until noon on the weekends, which was annoying. Even then, they wouldn't have all of the lunch food out until 12:30! Starbucks was very conveniently located; right next to the library and easy to grab before or in between classes.

    Dorm Life

I was lucky enough to get into McKay dorms. The other freshman dooms are Doolittle, Adams, and Wood. I would say all of the dorms are very nice. McKay and Doolittle are centrally located. Adams and Wood are slightly farther, but there are a lot of amenities nearby, such as an ATM, Einstein's Bagels, and a buffet. In McKay, you get a full-sized fridge, a microwave, and your own bathroom. In Adams and Wood, it is more like a suite; you share a bathroom with one other room. In Doolittle, it is more like a typical college dorm; I'm pretty sure you share a bathroom with eight other people. The rooms are much smaller in Doolittle as well. The rooms in McKay, Wood, and Adams are a great size. However, I heard they're going to knock down McKay in the future. The doors in McKay also open to the outside, so sometimes bugs would get in my room. I even found a lizard in my room one day! You also can't prop your door in McKay. Make sure you keep your room clean. All of my room checks were random.

    Academic Rigor

Nearly all of the classes revolve around aeronautics and aviation. There are no economics classes or government classes. The only classes outside of the aviation-related majors are psychology (because of human-factors psychology), communications classes, and a very limited number of various humanities classes. No art, no music. They teach their classes differently here than at other universities. I'm having a lot of trouble transferring credits. Make sure you plan on being here until you graduate. My professors were wonderful, though; absolutely no complaints here. The school is also trying to get students involved with research; there is a program called Ignite that offers grants to students who want to do research. I hear the engineering classes are difficult and demanding. I heard it is very hard to find room for a minor if you are an engineer.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you REALLY love aviation before going to this school. I was an applied meteorology student and transferred out after one semester because the school hardly catered to my major. I would really only recommend going here if you are dead-set on being an aerospace engineer. This school is relatively easy to get into, but a lot of kids drop out. There were tons of first semester freshman running around at the end of the first semester trying to get out of the school. I did very well grades-wise, but it wasn't worth it to spend another $15,000 for another semester.

    In three sentences

DO NOT come here if you aren't an aviation lover! There are great professors, a beautiful campus, wonderful Florida weather, but absolutely not for those who are not incredibly passionate about aviation. This school is a dream for aviation lovers, aspiring aerospace engineers, ROTC students, and pilots.

    Campus Safety

I've never felt unsafe walking at campus at any point of the day or night.

    Clubs and Activities

Many different clubs that are well funded by the university.

Great for these types of students

Aviation Enthusiasts or someone wanting an aviation career.

    Bang for the buck

All aviation related companies know the university so you basically are paying for the name. It's pricey but worth it in the end.

    What to do for fun

ERAU is in the middle of Daytona so everything to do is about a ten minute drive away. There's the beach, Daytona Speedway, Daytona Lagoon, and many other activities. ERAU is also right on the airport so you can rent a plane and fly for fun.

    Food and Dining

There are a wide array of dining options available for anyone. Meals are very filling and offer variety.

    Dorm Life

Weekends can be a little dull. There is never a problem with noise or disturbances though.

    Academic Rigor

Some majors are definitely more difficult than others. Any engineering major at this school is very rigorous but doable, the rest are definitely doable.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure to visit the campus and make sure it is the right fit for you. It is set up a little different than many other colleges so make sure it is comfortable.

    The Harvard of the skies.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety does a decent job at protecting the students and the university. There are always at least two officers patrolling the campus.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a huge part of the Embry-Riddle campus. Anytime the administration needs support for something, they come to the fraternities and sororities. These are the leaders on campus and they show it in the way they act, and the way they dress.

    Clubs and Activities

So many clubs to join! Greek life plays a huge role on campus. There are also organizations on campus to supplement every degree program, so there are organizations for fun and for networking/work.

    Bang for the buck

When you go into the aviation industry, Embry-Riddle is THE name. Everyone recognizes it and you will immediately have their respect. However outside of the industry, most people won't know about the school.

    What to do for fun

The beach is one of the biggest things people do for fun. There is also a decent night life as well as Orlando being one hour away.THE

    Food and Dining

Riddle is provided food by Sodexo. Food is hit or miss most days. However, there is always something to eat on campus. Einsteins Bagel Co. is on campus and they have late hours to provide late night snacks.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was ok. There was nothing special about the dorms. Its a room to sleep in. Be honest on your housing application though. Otherwise you will end up with people that don't live like you do, and that will lead to problems...

    Academic Rigor

Riddle is a very tough school academically. Having said that, most of the professors are willing to help you, so it can be managed.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely make sure that you want to come to this university. It is expensive and a lot of students have to leave because of that. Also, make sure you join multiple clubs when you first start attending. The best way to have a good college experience is to get out of the dorms and go meet people! Also, the university is small, so don't expect a state college environment. Your professors do know who you are. Average class size is 25.

    In three sentences

The campus has been under construction in some way ever since I started attending in 2010. However, the campus is in an ideal location (4 miles from the beach), and the weather is almost always sunny. Another plus is that the faculty and staff typically do everything they can to help you; the university does everything it can to make your college experience amazing.

All in all, you eventually will get what you paid for, Embry-Riddle is well known in the aviation community.

    What to do for fun

Orlando has the good clubs, and if your on break, go to Miami.

    Food and Dining

The food here is pretty good but they don't have alot of variety.

    Dorm Life

It is not too bad, but you can stay off campus for much cheaper and have a much better living space.

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

The first year for all students will be a challenge, but trust me it gets much better if you stay here.

    What to do for fun

The beach. Sua Breeze ave. has some clubs. There are some clubs...

    Food and Dining

SEDEXO... average college food. Nothing fancy... Gets really old really fast. It has a buffet, Einstein's bagels, and a cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

No girls, no parties, no crazy activities. VERY safe however. Not much to do... nothing to do on campus. Occasional concert or comedian... usually second rate. Let me put it this way, everyone moves off campus as soon as they can.

    Academic Rigor

The addmission rate may be 75% but the retention rate is 50% thats because its not easy. Riddle has a reputation to uphold with the aviation industry and it will not let that down. It shows in academic rigor. That is unless you are a AS major, life is easy for you.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in flying, or anything to do with planes rockets or something that goes in the air this is your school. If you want that and a place to party, meet girls, and drink this is not your school. If you are interested in ROTC this place is awesome. Great place to get a degree, thats about it.

    In three sentences

A great school for studying anything related to aeronautics. A bad school for anyone interested in girls, parties, or fun. Good teachers, bad administrators, amazing students.

    Campus Safety

Embry-Riddle has an open campus; as such, there is the occasional suspicious character. Even in these circumstances; campus security promptly text and e-mails all students and faculty and deals with the situation within minutes. The campus security officers maintain a constant presence at the school in order to ensure the safety of all.

    Clubs and Activities

Riddle has a wide variety of clubs, despite being a school with a very specific purpose. There are many clubs tailored specifically to the aerospace industry; such as ASME or SWE. Riddle also boast numerous clubs which have little to do with the industry but provide a welcome reprieve from the constant airplane craziness.

Great for these types of students

If you're interested in going to a school full of airplane crazy guys; then you'll be quite at home at this school. Be warned though only about 20% of the students here are female. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the way you look like it. Students here typically are more into spending time in the sky than they are into the normal college lifestyle.

    Bang for the buck

Considering ERAU is the foremost school in the aerospace industry; and the only school specially designed to create industry experts attending, attending Riddle definitely provides graduates with an advantage. Most major companies in the industry hire a large number of students from Riddle each year. Even with Riddle's steep price, it is worth every penny.

    What to do for fun

Daytona Beach is a relatively quiet town; with the exception of Bike Week and the Daytona 500, there isn't much to do except go to the beach. However, Orlando is an hour and a half drive away and offers a wide range of activities including theme parks; theatres; and other experiences.

    Food and Dining

There are many dining options at ERAU; including the Chik-fil-A at the student center and Starbucks at the library. The school has an Einstein Brother's Bagels which is open until midnight during the week; which provides excellent convenience during late night study sessions. ERAU also boasts a restaurant, Propellers; which serves excellent burgers.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at Riddle is pretty quiet. Everyone gets along quite well; but, students spend a large amount of time studying and less time socializing.

    Academic Rigor

As an aerospace engineering major, I can attest to the rigorous academics that seems to be Riddle's hallmark. Students should be prepared to spend most of their evenings and weekends working on homework. Students in other academic programs also spend significant amounts of time completing work outside of class.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you're prepared for a very diverse student body. Riddle is a small school and as a results students fall into very tight groups quite quickly. Make sure you're looking for a small school before you consider Riddle.

    In three sentences

If you want a career in the aerospace industry, this is the school for you. This school has several unique dynamics such as a very low percentage of female students and a very diverse student body. Riddle is not for the faint of heart; the work will be challenging, but they teach you everything you need to know to be competitive in the aerospace job market.

    Campus Safety

I lost a really large sketchbook and never got it back. I don't know if that is entirely fault or safety is partially to blame for not finding all this time. Guards are mostly nice, especially when you ask them to briefly open a room to do or get something. I did get a very sarcastic guard one time with an interesting but pestered rhetoric, but that is of personal experience.

    Greek Life

I don't affiliate with Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

The available clubs are what really negatively shocked me. The school boasts of more than 150 clubs and organizations... that mostly pertain to science and sports! They have a few groups that aim at reaching out to minorities and charity. But what really puzzled me were the few or lack of clubs encouraging foreign language study or cultural diversity. What good is it to say you are preparing students for productive careers and leadership roles in service around the world if no one even knows how to speak their language?!

Great for these types of students

This school is mainly for engineers, pilots, armed force officers-in-training, programmers,

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

None come to mind at the moment.

    Bang for the buck

Do not get my wrong when I say, Embry-Riddle is a great school. I do not believe it is worth the money attending, however, personally because my ambitions and passions demand variety and flexibility in say course electives or clubs and orgs, for example, which the school rarely allows.

    What to do for fun

Personally what I do for fun, this school does not facilitate it. This should not discourage any military child, rocket and space enthusiast or average computer junky who could all probably run a mile in record time or sneak alcohol from friends at a party.

    Food and Dining

The food is quite repetitive and seemingly unhealthy. Though nutrition and diet plans try to eliminate this problem, meal plans are generally wasted, given away or cashed out due to both the quality and lack of variety of food, particularly in the food court at Student Center. I also wished the school would allow freshman to cook food as they please, especially if they actually know how.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great. Although I wish maintenance would be a little more responsive. The housing services such as ERRSA (Embry-Riddle Resident Student Association) provide entertainment and cleaning supplies which is okay for the poor and vehicle-less college student who wants to enjoy the weekend with a movie but still has to iron his ROTC uniform and clean the bathroom on his turn.

    Academic Rigor

Most offered majors are technical fields. Thus, many fall in the sciences, engineering and aviation fields. The first few semesters eases you into the universities workload. Beware, however, for I have been told as soon as you complete your gauntlet courses in sophomore years, those lab hours and projects start to accumulate if slack off even for a moment.

    Tips for prospective students

Read the fine print, people! This is a highly specialized school. A student seeking variety and flexible career choices should search higher education elsewhere. That is a mistake I will never make again.

    In three sentences

I attend the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Uni branch residing in Daytona Beach, FL. This 185-acre institution of over 5,000 students, under- and postgraduate alike, aims to function as a source for innovation and excellence in aerospace education and applied research. It stands tall next to the Daytona International Airport, NASCAR's Daytona 500 auto racetrack and an hour away from the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Orlando.

Even though most people complain about Doolittle because it is one of the smaller Freshmen dorms, I don't mind it because it is in the center of campus and close to everything.

    Academic Rigor

All the professors are great and of high quality. They seem passionate and knowledgeable of their field.

Long boarding and biking around campus is pretty popular. The beach is approximately ten minutes away, so many students go there often.

Although there are many options to choose from on campus, students get tired of the food quickly. Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, and Einsteins are the best places on campus, but there is a buffet with decent food.

Beach down the road. Discounts to Florida Attractions like Disney World and theme parks and Daytona Speed Way is visible on campus. Many different sports options with nice workout centers and parks.

    Food and Dining

The food is Excellent and worth the meal plan. Standard meal plan is what most get cause they don't normally eat a breakfast. Its two meals a day, whatever meal you want to use them as.

    Dorm Life

Better to find cheaper off campus housing but if that is not an option the Dorms are pretty clean and they have many different options of Dorm style.

    Academic Rigor

Staying on task can be hard with the beach just 5 miles down the road. Studying is very important and don't fall behind in classes.

    Campus Safety

The campus safety is only rate three stars because of the fact that ERAU DB campus is open to the community. There have been a few incidents on campus, but nothing that couldn't be handled by the Campus Safety Dept. Overall, I feel safe on campus, even at night.

    Greek Life

The Greek life on campus in unusual and not as major as a public school. There is only one frat house and it is located on the far edge of campus. There are at least ten different organizations on campus, including a service oriented fraternity.

    Clubs and Activities

The amount of extracurricular on campus is impressive. I am the member of 2-3 clubs on campus. It is a great way to meet new friends and go on road trips.

Great for these types of students

Math and science oriented students will love ERAU. Also, students who love flying airplanes or aircraft mechanic work. There are many majors to choose from that are all aviation related in some regard.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The spirit rock is an unusual tradition on campus. Different clubs and organizations on campus spray messages on the rock. It is usually used to advertise an event on campus or school spirit.

    Bang for the buck

At ERAU, the return on investment of engineering and science students is very lucrative. Additionally pilots have good recognition as graduates from ERAU. The only reason why the bang for the buck is four stars is because many students accumulate an enormous amount of debt, especially pilots.

    What to do for fun

There's no so much to do in Daytona. The best things to do are go the the beach, go to the Port Orange Pavilion for the movies, Daytona Ice Arena, Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt and go on camping trips in nearby wooded areas.

    Food and Dining

The selection of food is not so healthy. The best food places are Chick-Fil-A, Einstein's and the salad bar. It's also a bummer that most of school food venues are closed over holidays, including spring break.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not very good for the price. There are no kitchens in the freshman dorms and many of the upperclassmen dorms. Also, it is a very cramped space and there is a large problem with humidity.

    Academic Rigor

The courses at ERAU are very rigorous and are of top quality. Each course tests your limits. Be prepared to learn a lot and to practice a lot of self-learning techniques.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to learn for yourself, because your professors are not going to teach you. Always arrive early to class and finish assignments well before the due date. Only take 12 credit hours your first semester, even if you were an AP student in high school: This school is very academically rigorous, and the shock of this could lead to you losing control of your academics.

    In three sentences

ERAU is a great school with great educational programs, so it is worth the high price tag. You will meet very good people compared to the average population. If you are an engineer, pilots will be your worst enemy and vice versa.
