Classes are small and the professors are nice and really care about your success!
Am enjoying being here
Fun every day, the students who organize the activities here, or FAB, are great and get comedians, magicians, and bands along with all kinds of games where you can win some awesome prizes!
Bang for the buck
Very affordable.
Tips for prospective students
Remember, even though college is super fun, it's still school and you need to study.
Great for these types of students

Am learning a lot
I am definitely learning a lot. I am just heading into my sophomore year not, and really looking forward to it. Even in my freshman year I learned so much in mostly general education courses alone. For instance, I took a China course recently where I learned so much about something I had previously had little education of. The professors are great and you can feel the passion that they have for their subjects.
Am enjoying being here
Yes! It is extremely easy to meet new friends. While living on campus definitely helps for this, you can also meet new people when you are a commuter as well. Everyone is very welcoming and accepting. As for extra-curricular activieties, there are a ton. I am personally involved in sports. The coaches are great and very informative. After my freshman year, I am having a great experience. I am very much looking forward to my sophomore year!
Bang for the buck
Definitely! Fitchburg is one of the cheapest QUALITY schools around. All college is expensive, but for the price you pay at Fitchburg, the education is extraordinary.
Tips for prospective students
Get involved! This is the best way to meet people! My freshman year I did cross country, indoor track and field, softball, intramural basketball, worked with the Athletic Trainers, and trained to be an RA. I loved every minute of it and met so many great people! Another tip I would have is to always go to class. No matter how tired or lazy you feel, remember that every class you skip is costing you money. One professor told us that missing one class is basically equivalent to throwing $100 down the drain. Don't do this! Also, you need to work hard. Don't put your social life before your studies.
Great for these types of students
I feel Fitchburg is great for all types of students. However, our most common majors include Nursing, Education, and Business, Criminal Justice and Film. I am personally involved in the Exercise Science program and I absolutely love it.

Its a great university and has fantastic programs! Its great financial aid and price was the reason I chose here. It has that college feel and you are guaranteed to find your niche at Fitchburg State University!
Tips for prospective students
A tip that I wish I had was to look at your degree evaluation and figure out what classes you will need to take for your major and the pre-requisites that are required for your degree! Not knowing that in the beginning of my Freshman year made me behind just one course! Also if you have the chance to add on a minor DO IT! With the advanced LAS that is required for every student, just doing TWO more classes gets you a minor in that subject!
Academic Rigor
it would be depending on what area of study you would choose.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is HIGHLY recommended at FSU. It is a great way to make friends. There are a few dorm halls to choose from some are more homey than others but overall they all provide the same thing, great WIFI, cable, and all halls will have a Kitchen area as well as laundry and vending machines. Some even have fun things like pool and ping pong tables.
Food and Dining
It is buffet style and they always will have something that you will enjoy. They change the special every day and keep things the same such as the salad bar, grill, deli, and pasta. There is also a fun array of desserts every day at every meal. The Freedom meal plan is most preferred so you can go unlimited times and have 125$ towards your dining points to use in the commuter cafe or coffee shop.
What to do for fun
FSU has several fun things to do each week they try to do their best at creating fun free programs and things to do to keep the students entertained.
Bang for the buck
My favorite thing about FSU is the fact that it has a shuttle service that goes up and down the main street for student safety and convenience. It goes to the commuter rail station that goes right into North Station and on the other end it leads to the school parking lot and track and fields.
Great for these types of students
perfect school for students who are looking to pursue a degree in nursing. Fitchburg State is GREAT for nursing as well as it is for education. It even has an elementary school basically on campus that students can do their practicum at.
Clubs and Activities
There are SEVERAL clubs at Fitchburg State. Clubs from gay straight alliance to Student government. There is also a lot of intramural sports for students who would like to have fun but do not want to commit to a sport.
Greek Life
We do have greek life on campus.
Campus Safety
Campus safety has always been a little issue seeming we are so close to the local neighborhoods but campus police are really great at preventing any incidences and there are emergency buttons all over campus. there are also cameras everywhere as well as in parking lots.

So many opportunities no matter what your intrests are. The professors care for each and every student and try their best to accomodate every student. Every person on campus is so friendly, you'll meet friends easily and get involved in something you love even easier!
Tips for prospective students
Get Involved! Rock the Block is during the first week of school, every club and organization on campus is there with sign up sheets, if something intrests you, sign up! The best way to make the best of your 4 years here is to get involved in something you love to do, it will make day to day life at college 100 times more enjoyable! Be spontaneous & try something new, meet new friends, and adventure!
Academic Rigor
The professors get to know YOU. You are not just another face in the classroom. Each professor is trained with no TA's which means they get to know your strenghts and weaknesses. There is never a class bigger than 23 students which makes classes not just lectures but discussions and group work too, while still challenging every student in the classroom.
Dorm Life
The residence halls are really spacey and nice! The freshman dorms, Russell Towers are confusing at first but an awesome way to network and meet new people. The rooms aren't small, and you can actually pick your roomate as well as what room and floor you want to live on. Housing really works with you to accomodate every students needs.
Food and Dining
Holmes Dining Commons is not bad at all! A lot of choices are presented in a buffet style. You have the grill for hot dogs hamburgers and pizza everyday as well as changing menutainment and cool home made dishes. The soft serve ice cream is the best and so are the french fries. We also have the Bistro which includes Subway, pizza, burgers, soups, snacks, smoothies, and salads. The food isnt your moms home cooked meal, but not too bad for a college campus!
What to do for fun
Our activites board (which you can join your freshman year) plans at least 2 things every week. We have comedians, musicians, hypnotists, and fun game nights on campus all planned by students! We also have plenty of other clubs on campus who plan fun events as well, there is always something going on on campus. Additionally, we have sporting events which are always a good time. Off campus, there are plenty of malls and shopping plazas, bowling, mini golf, and ice cream shops!
Bang for the buck
You honestly get a private school experience for a public university price. Fitchburg is one of the best choices I have made. Its small campus community is just like a private schools, the small classes make it easy to learn and succeed as well as seek help when you need it. We have so many services (i.e tutoring, gym, student activites) that are all free which is luxury. The price you pay is a bargain for the education and living we get!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
"Daka"- Our dining hall.
"Campus Cat" - we have a small orange cat whom roams around campus, nobody knows who the owner is!
Great for these types of students
Students who want to know their professor and create a relationship. Students who want that community feeling. Students who want to be involved! Students who want to succeed accedmically and socially.
Clubs and Activities
We have 80+ clubs on campus. You are without a doubt bound to find something you love. Our clubs and activites range from sports intermurals to student government to pokemon club. If you do not find something you like, you can find 8 friends, an advisor, and start your own club!
Greek Life
We have two fraternities on campus as well as three sororities! They do recruiting every semester and a lot of student on campus are involved in Greek Life! We do not techinically have "houses" for these organizations but that doesnt make them less prominent on campus. They also hold a lot of fun fundraising events on the quad!!
Campus Safety
We have our own campus police station on our campus. Across from the rec center is the campus police station which has 4-5 trained officers on duty 24/7. They are really personable people, and are honestly wonderful people to keep the community safe. They will help whenevr and even escorte you back to wherever your going if you feel unsafe and call them. On top of this, we have the emergency blue lights. With each one you are at you can see the next one. This is if you ever feel unsafe you can press it and police will come within 30 seconds!

Fitchburg State University becomes your second home when you enter it's doors.
The friendly and professional atmosphere is very enjoyable and nice to live around. Not only that but the programs it offers are very challenging yet fun and challenging.
Tips for prospective students
Be yourself and involve yourself with campus activities and clubs. In my opinion do not involve yourself with campus too much your freshman year because you are getting used to the surroundings, but it really all depends on your personality and major to be honest. FOCUS on class. Make sure to take good notes, listen for any repeated things that a professor might say and have fun. This is a new beginning for you enjoy yourself, discover new ways of learning and stay truth to yourself.
Academic Rigor
This really depends on your major to be honest, Some of my friends are criminal justice majors and their test are not very hard. In the other hand I am a Biology major and sometimes our test are pretty difficult. But all majors have their challenges, if they didn't have any they would all be pretty boring.
Dorm Life
I LOVE MY DORM
This will be your new little world. Your room becomes like a little sanctuary for yourself. The feeling of laying in bed after a really long day of studying is the best feeling ever. Make sure you interact with your roommate, build a bond with them. Don't be the awkward roommate. DECORATE DECORATE DECORATE it's fun plus very relaxing in my opinion !
Food and Dining
The food is ok, maybe it's because I am puerto rican and i'm used to intense flavors but to be honest is not too bad. Holmes Dining Hall spaghetti is the best ! I love their pasta dishes so much ! and oh my god they sometimes have lava cake and it like amazingness !
What to do for fun
There is soooo much to do on campus is ridiculous. Hammond Hall is where everything fun is ! you can eat food, lay around on the falcon hub, you can buy stuff in the bookstore, you can go to the library and enjoy the amazing variety of books they have, you can admire art on the 1st level floor. There is also a gym at the recreation center and they also have a POOL !
Bang for the buck
with $20,000 a year you could live a very comfortable life here and that is very cheap if you see what other colleges offer.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
OH MY GOD theres this place in front of Russell Towers where you can hear yourself speak. Like if you were whispering into your own ear, it's kind of creepy.
Campus Safety
VERY VERY SAFE campus police does a very great job on keeping us safe. They are everywhere.
