    Tips for prospective students

I am truly enjoying the experience of this HBCU. The connections are great. I am currently enrolled in the 5 year business program which is listed as the top business program in the country. I am employed with the US Attorneys Office here in Tallahassee. It like all other colleges has it down falls, with loss of information etc. but for the most part it is a good experience.

hard-working students students pursuing a quality degree African-American students

    Tips for prospective students

Florida A&M University is one of the top HBCU's in the country. Attending this university gives students a growing experience as well as a chance to broaden their horizon like no other. The academics are outstanding and professors push for excellence. Incoming students encounter and endure a very welcoming environment by upperclassmen, academic advisors, and professors to ease the heavy anticipation and suspense of the transitioning stage. At FAMU you will always find something that matches your interests or personality because there are an exuberant amount of organizations and clubs to join. The location of the school is Tallahassee, Florida. Tallahassee is on the states panhandle and the weather is superb which may have a positive influence on a perspective students selection of this school. The enrollment at FAMU is fairly large for an HBCU with about 12,000 students. Scholars come from all throughout the country and internationally to attend this university (such as myself, a Washington, DC resident). There are many great people to meet and interact with which gives students a greater outlook on the world around them. Whether living on or off campus you take on the responsibilities of an independent which prepare students for the next phase their life, adulthood. Florida A&M University is a well rounded school and has a place for everyone.

ANY TYPE. you'll enjoy, cause no one person at famu is the same.

    Bang for the buck

It worth the money, but financial aid is a big handful. it always busy the first couple weeks and its hard to reach them by telephone. so go their personally.

    Am enjoying being here

Oh, I LOVE it! the atmosphere is great. People are so friendly. If you get lost don't hesitate to ask anybody walking by, you may just make a new friend. The weekends are always best to chill or find a nice place to have fun. But always stay in groups. Since famu isnt a private college and its not gated, you have to take precautions, such as; not going anywhere alone, and always be alert of your surroundings.

    Am learning a lot

Many of the teachers are very enthusiastic about the subjects they teach. It was always best to take notes, because many of them text directly off of them. I've learned a lot things i probably would've ever thought I'd care to know, but now their permanently inserted in my head..

Great for these types of students

Great for ambitious students who like to work hard and take it easy at the same time.

    Tips for prospective students

Before I graduated high school in Indiana, I would never have considered a college like FAMU. It's a historical black college and, considering my ethnicity, it is very intimidating going to a college that I am a minority. Though my heart raced a little my first visit to the college, I found that everyone attending or employed FAMU welcomed me with open arms and grand smiles. If you are in need of assistance in any way, FAMU is always there to help. Granted, they tend to 'misplace' paper work. But I could never have asked for a better place to attend. The campus is gorgeous and the school spirit and outstanding!

    Tips for prospective students

RUN!!!!!!!!!! If you want to party then FAMU is the school for you. Other than that I would not recommend it to any incoming freshman.

    Bang for the buck

The financial aid office, recently and in the past, have misplaced or sent student refunds either late or not the full stated amount on the computer.Staff and employees of the financial aid office are very lazy and get absolutely no work done for student scholarships.

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers have no passion for their job, FAMU is mainly a party school. Many papers are lost or never graded right based on biased teachers.

    Am learning a lot

A very stable major is required for a student to even learn something at FAMU.

I am learning a lot here at Florida A and M University. I learn more about our past as African Americans here than i have anywhere else. We are constantly told that a first appearance is everything because you only have one time to make it and since we are a school known to host a lot of very important people that lesson is taken to heart. As an SBIAN our saying is, No Academic Pain, No Professional Gain! hopefully that says it all for you

    Tips for prospective students

Many people argue the importance of going to big named schools in order to get the best education. I've noticed that no matter what school he or she enrolls in, it is always going to be up to the student do their part in making the most out of their education opportunity. Likewise, no matter where they go, the raw material that each professor teaches should be the same. Therefore Florida A & M University is just as good as any school when it comes to gaining a quality education.

    Am enjoying being here

The HBCU experience is awe inspiring. Everyone here is beyond friendly and all the administrators are readily helpful to those in need.

    Am learning a lot

Here the professors have a tendency to want to help their students understand the material. If the student shows a conscious effort to want to learn, the professors will gladly help

Great for these types of students

Any student would enjoy attending Florida A&M. The university is an equal opportunity school and would help any type of student succeed. There are so many activities and majors to involve oneself in that there is no way that a certain type of student would not be comfortable in.

    Tips for prospective students

The only tips I would give to those who are planning on matriculating at this university is to study hard. College is nothing like high school simply for the fact that you are both without your parents so you have more freedom and because every teacher is not going to guide you through for an easy A.

    Bang for the buck

I am a student from another state. It is unfortunate that I have to pay the out-of-state tuition and was not offered scholarships that students from Florida received, although I was qualified. The tuition is not as high as other schools. Also, there is no school as thorough as the School of Business and Industry. I feel that with the rate that I pay, I am paying for every amount of knowledge that I obtain and more. Another downside to tuition is the financial aid lines. Not only do they add redundant and unnecessary fees, the lines are usually out the door or take forever. Your best bet would be to stand in line before they open early in the year and take care of everything at once.

    Am enjoying being here

This city is a mid-size city of culture. On the south side of the city is Florida A&M and on the north side is TCC and Florida State. The number of colleges in the city make the entertainment never ending. There are ample amounts of extracurricular activities to partake in from the arts to various volunteer groups.

    Am learning a lot

I have attended 5 semesters at this HBCU and have learned a lot in both my major and in other majors. Being a 5 year MBA student, the curriculum is very tedious and you are expected to be well-rounded. I have studied both business courses and extracurricular courses such as the prestigious marching band of which I learned a lot taking part in also. The only down-side to things is every teacher will not be kind and some will be harder on you because they feel that since they worked for their degree, you should also.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for everything early!!! Make copies of anything and everything they give you. BUY rain-boots and your own printer, it'll save you time and shoes.

Future Leaders lawyers dreamers hard- workers etc. This school is great for everybody but sloths, but even than this school can break that.

    Tips for prospective students

When you first arrive make sure your Financial Aid is in order. Make sure you have a way to pay for school. Never stop applying for scholarships. Surround yourself with positivity, although this is a great institute, their is still negativity surrounding it. Get involved in school, if you sit around, you will hate it.

    Bang for the buck

For out of state students, yes it is expansive. It is well worth it, only if you know what to do while you are here. You will get a great balance of the party life, academic life, and life in general.

    Am enjoying being here

Being at Florida A and M allowed me to met one of the greatest organization on campus called Voices, which is the first poetry groups on campus. Through them, I gained a chance to be more involved in the community of Tallahassee, also the opportunity to be a leader, and increase my talent as an poet.

This pass term I've learned great social, professional, and leadership skills. Being avoid in extra-curriculum is not an option, it is a must. You will fill oblige to join numerous of organizations, be involved in your major, not because you have to but because you want to.

    Campus Safety

There are many preventative measures, like access-card-only- dorms, outdoor lamps, security officers, cameras, and emergency alert posts throughout campus. However, with an open campus, where anyone can walk on campus and into buildings, there is still risk, though it is fairly average in amount.

    Greek Life

Though I am not personally involved in Greek life, there is a strong influence around them.

    Clubs and Activities

There really are too many to count, and many of them are partnered or affiliated with outside organizations. The schools literary magazine, Cake, is open to both students and staff, and is widely read on campus. There are your basic clubs-- arts, theater, musical, anime...

Great for these types of students

Great for musicians, artists, scientists, and law school hopefuls.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The FAMU marching 100, regardless of current troubles, are all top notch musicians and performers.

    Bang for the buck

If you want a school that offers life, learning, top notch facilities, and great resources, FAMU is a good pick.

    What to do for fun

The shuttle system can take you to the mall, local attractions, and will bring you back to campus or your off campus apartment. Every Friday, students perform their original music, and often hand out samples free of charge. There is a campus recreation center, theater, bowling alley, various clubs, activities, and sports.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has a pizza bar, salad bar, hamburgers,a dessert station, made-to-order sub sandwiches and made-to-order stir fry. There are several chain restaurants on campus, including two coffee shops, pizza hut, and a grill. The food is good, fresh, hot, healthy, and there is a good variety.

    Dorm Life

SHOWER SHOES, and throw rugs are a must. Also, have your own refrigerator and microwave. The cafeteria is on the opposite side of campus from the five main girls dormitories, and I doubt you want to make that hike everyday. Double rooms are roughly 12.5x13.5 feet-- a pretty decent size, I feel. Not a mansion, but not too cramped either.

    Academic Rigor

I am still early in the semester, but the instructors I have had thus far were not difficult, but they require an average amount of effort. Listen, take notes, turn off your phone and i-pod, and do your homework. Most importantly: Study.

    Tips for prospective students

Be nice, speak up, and be persistent!

    In three sentences

As a native northerner, I was very apprehensive about enrolling in a southern school-- especially one that is currently dealing with a national scandal. However, In the few weeks I have been here, my opinion has completely evolved. The academics, the atmosphere, the facilities, and of course, the student body are wonderful, and, I am very happy to call FAMU my home for the next four years.

    Campus Safety

emergency towers are set up around campus. in case of an emergency, you push a button which will activate an alarm and notify the police of your location...there is a service set up where students on a golf cart will give you a ride to your dorm or wherever you are trying to go on campus, especially at night. police officers are often patrolling campus as well.

    Greek Life

famu's greek organizations are well known around campus. i am not in an organization but i do attend their events and parties. overall i always have a good time! the greek organizations are big on community service and giving back to help others. several clothing and food drives have been set up in the past.

    Clubs and Activities

famu is home to a large amount of clubs and activities. there's an organization for almost everything! i am a member of the marching 100 and a dance team...dancing is very big on campus. the different dance teams will often put on shows in lee hall auditorium, which are very fun to watch. football games are extremely fun! coming from both a band member and a student attendee point of view, i would have to say there's never a dull moment! academic organizations are very active on campus as well, and can help you gain connects with you field of study.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

campaign season is a fun time of year! you will see students everywhere with shirts, passing out buttons, flyers, etc. trying to get your vote. it's nice to join someone's campaign team and reach out to students.

    What to do for fun

famu: the university that never sleeps....there are a lot of things to do for fun. tallahassee is home to a variety of clubs, some of which they offer transportation to and from the club. (i.e. bajas, lit, the moon, etc) not the club type? you can always catch a house party in one of the various apartment complexes or houses close to campus. not the partying type at all? dorms sometimes host what is called a social. residents meet up to watch movies, play games and eat snacks. it's a good way to get to know the people who live around you. you and some friends can always take a trip to the mall. (my sophomore year, my friends and i had mall fridays. we went to the mall every friday after class just to walk around and enjoy each other's company.) since florida state university is right around the corner, you can always check out some of their event.s

    Food and Dining

although i wish there were a wider variety of restaurants available, overall i like the eating establishments on campus. students can choose their meal plan, which includes swipes for the main cafe and a limited amount of cash dollars called flex bucks. flex bucks can be used in the lower cafe where world of wings and pizza hut reside. they also can be used in the orange room, which is famu's own, where 155 degrees and magic johnson's sub connection reside. food varies in all these establishments ranging from double cheeseburgers and fries, wraps, chicken strips, pizzas, mozzarella sticks, salads and more.

    Dorm Life

i've only resided in 2 dorms at famu; paddy-foote and palmetto south. my experience in paddy-foote was very interesting. i didn't like it because the rooms are very small, especially for 2 people. my sophomore and junior years i lived in palmetto south, which are the on campus apartments. i like living here because it gives you a feeling of having your own apartment. even though you have room inspections and other dorm rules apply i feel more independent living here. these apartments are equipped with a full kitchen, living room and bathrooms. you can live in a single where everyone gets their own room or a double where you will have a roommate and up to 6 people occupy one apartment. (i've lived in a double both years.)

    Academic Rigor

like any institution, the rigor of classes varies. it all depends on your major. i am a biology/pre-medicine student so in my opinion most courses i am taking are very rigorous and require excessive studying.

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students should apply for financial aid as quickly as possible. on campus housing tends to fill up fast so you should sign up asap. classes tend to fill up fast as well so you certainly should register once registration period opens....in general whenever you have to apply for something, do it as quickly as you can. get you know your professors as well. that extra visit to their office may help you in the long run in terms of you grade and recommendation letters as well.

    In three sentences

becoming a florida a&m university rattler was one of the best decisions i have ever made. i have been exposed to new cultures and have come in contact with different types of people. overall, this is a wonderful university and i encourage students to apply!

    Campus Safety

FAMU's website offers each student the opportunity to have texted alerts sent to their phone when the Campus Police are investigating a situation on campus. This service is active at all times, during and after campus activities.

    Greek Life

Greek life is active and hazing free. There is no tolerance of hazing on or off of campus. And any reports or suspicions of hazing will be investigated immediately and be reprimanded accordingly. FAMU wants all students to be responsible and safe on or off campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Students can participate in clubs that are affiliated with their college major. For example, my major is Health Care Management (HCM) and I am a member of the Student Health Care Management Association (SHCMA).

Great for these types of students

FAMU is great for potential students who are interested in pursuing a career in Pharmacy, Nursing, Business, Allied Sciences or Psychology. FAMU is a multicultural University. And attracts potential students from Puerto Rico, Africa, Spain and Brazil just to name a few

    Bang for the buck

There is always something to do on campus. 2013 will be the return of the Marching 100. And that means more excitement for all Rattlers in Rattler Nation.

    What to do for fun

    Food and Dining

The food looks, taste and smells good. Students make sure that they do not miss a great meal provided by FAMU staff. There is also snacks, coffee and a variety of sweet treats to satisfy the different palates of their students.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life will help you to be organized, responsible and accountable.

    Tips for prospective students

FAMU is the #1 HBCU around if you ask me. When attending this university be prepared to have a lot of fun but be prepared to work hard as well. Many of the professors live for teaching their students and they are always willing to help, but you have to be willing to help yourself as well because they will not do ALL the work for you, but they will do what they can to help you succeed and get where you are trying to go. I am a second year Pharmacy major in the six year PharmD program and I must say I love it. On top of that we have the best Pharmacy program around. There is always someone to help around campus whether faculty or student. At FAMU we are all one big FAMUly(family) and it really shows. I will admit the school has it's moments and downfalls but trust me the pros of attending DEFINITELY outweigh the cons. To any future students I highly recommend FAMU and I hope to one day be able to welcome you to the baddest HBCU that prides itself on excellence with caring.

Really great institution for not just becoming a suitable employee for any desired field, but also a well-respected adult. Yes, it does present some challenges; but so does life.

    Tips for prospective students

Attending Florida A&M University has been the best experience of my life. I've learned about my major but also about myself. If you plan on attending FAMU there will be many distractions parties, boys/girls, parties, and parties. Remember you are there to be a student first focus on your academics or you will wish you had.

    Bang for the buck

I am an out of state student and the cost of attending Florida A&M university is fair. However, most student including i would complain about financial aid. Financial aid is very slow with disbursement and accurate on collections. Financial aid would be the negative part of FAMU.

    Am enjoying being here

I am never bored at Florida A&M University! i enjoy the extracurricular activities such as clubs, organizations, and events held by the schools. The parties are also exciting and fun.

    Am learning a lot

Due to Florida A&M University intensive and competitive School of Business you are determined to learn on your own. However, the teaching staff is great and helpful.

    Tips for prospective students

its important that before you come to the university you need to take care of your financial aid stuff because once you got to the school its not easy anymore you are going to spend hours in line waiting for your turn. and may not even seen, i speak form experience so don't be like me and procrastinate .

yes and worth it. the campus is great many places to go and get food during the day. the buss are free. etc

    Am enjoying being here

the university in general is pretty awesome but there are some places that are not. for example some of the male dorms are kinda disgusting, one room for two people with bunk beds. and the toilet are for everybody on the floor some times the students doesn't flush and that's nasty. and also i dislike the stairs too many of them other than that its pretty good especially the set

    Am learning a lot

its a really good place to learn. the teachers are friendly the assignment aren't so hard if you have the rite material.

I know you've heard rumors about FAMU being a party school but that isn't true. It's all about the student. You can either choose to party or you can choose to buckle down and be focused. That's what you're in school for anyway. After graduating and making the salary you desire you can party all you like :)

Make sure that you get tons of scholarships while you can or make Florida your home for your senior year. Unlike the rest of us, you'll be stuck paying the out-of-state tuition...which is extremely higher than those that are Florida Residents.

I love the college life. Everything in town is adjusted just for the average college student weather it be food for the late night crammers or just the conveyances of everything being within walking distance. The different organizations keep your interest too. There is always an event that enlightens you as well as have free food, and many other different things.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is an important element on this campus. We have security patrolling the facility day and night. We also have a police station called FAMU Police Department that ensures the safety of the college students on campus. Also, in front of every major building we have safety poles. If you are in danger, you can press the button on the safety pole and someone will come to your aid. We also have what is called the Safe Team. If you are on campus late at night from studying in the library or eating in the cafeteria, you can call the safe team and they will escort you safely to your living facility.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 100 clubs and activities on campus. They range from community service based, gender based, ethnicity based, or where you are from like Miami, Chicago, Texas, etc. Joining orgs on campus is a great way for networking and resume building. To list a few we have Collegiate 100, National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), NAACP, Progressive Black Men (PBM), SISTUHS Inc., People Aiding the Community Together (PACT), Campus Ambassadors, I Am That Girl, Mahogany Dance Troupe, Attack Dance Troupe, Faces Modeling Troupe, etc.

Great for these types of students

If you are a great role model, leader, and would like to make change on campus you might best be suited for Student Government Association (SGA). If you are interested in sports, you can join any of our intamural teams such as flag football, soccer, rugby, or weightlifting competions. If you have a genuine love for the university and would like to recruit other students, you should look into Campus Ambassadors, Orienation Leader, or Royal Court. If you love academics and have a need to assist others, you can apply to be a paid tutor or teacher's asisstant.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

When you come to Florida A&M University, you will hear the term the set quite often. The set is a location in front of the female residential halls and the bus terminals. This is a hangout spot where many students meet up with friends, hang out, or go to during Set Friday. Set Friday is each and every friday (unless announced otherwise) where students who are done with classes come out and listen to music, buy from vendors, or hang out with their fellow classmates.

    What to do for fun

There are many events that go on yearly here at FAMU. There are many social events, such as reltionship discussions, financial seminars, college enrichment fairs, etc. We also have a bowing alley, a billiard room, and a rock climbing wall for students. Organizations on campus may host other events on and off campus as well.

    Food and Dining

We just got a new food company called Metz this spring. For the most part, it is an improvement from the last company. We have the main cafeteria and eating facilities such as Wing Stop, Pizza Hut, Tropical Smoothie, Super Subs, the Rattler Grill, and the Ratller's Nest. By the fall, Chick Fil' A, TGI Fridays, and Starbucks should come on our campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at FAMU is a great way to network with other students in your graduating class. Your first year on campus is a huge transition from home, and living on campus is a great way to adjust from such dramatic changes. In the dorms, you'll get to meet some of your closest friends that will remain throughout your college experience.

    Academic Rigor

Florida A&M University, (FAMU) is considered highly among Historically Black Colleges/ Universities. In 1997, FAMU recieved the award of College of the Year, which was presented by the Princeton Review and Time Magazine. Food and Dining

Florida A & M is obviously located in the south and that comes with good cooking. There are some dinning areas on campus or near by that offer soul food such as: The Rattler's Nest and Olean's. There are also more commercial dinning areas like Wing Stop. The campus cafeteria also offers an array of different foods. Everybody's favorite day is Fried Chicken Wednesday; the lines are usually trailing outside!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is dorm life. At Florida A & M they have strict policies against co-ed dorms. Living in on-campus housing is also an experience because it is different from stay with your parents. You will have a little more freedom, while still having some restrictions. They also offer some apartment-style dorms where there is less people in one space and a more home-like situation. I have stayed in both dorm style and apartment style and they were both great learning experiences.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what major you get into, the workloads will varying. Some majors require more than others, but you need to remain focused. Getting to know classmates and professors is great help because yo may need someone to call on in the event that you fall short.

    Tips for prospective students

-Be ready and eager to learn -Balance your time (work as hard as you play) -Interact and network (make friends, get to know your professors) -Get involved -Make wise choices

    Campus Safety

We have a safety team and various blue light boxes spread out sporadically around campus, so if ever an emergency, there is a special line for FAMU security you can call or even hit one of the buttons on the blue light systems that will immediately alert the police to come to wherever you are.

    Greek Life

Thriving and bustling! The frats/sororities are always around, always dancing, always repping! We take great pride in our Greek life and you will too.

    What to do for fun

Although located in a boring town (Tallahassee), there are many opportunities for fun on campus and all around. House parties and socials are common and a great way to meet new people. There are shuttles that pick you up from campus to take you to various clubs and events going on. Everywhere you turn, there's something to get into!

    Food and Dining

We've recently changed culinary companies, and I will say they have improved the cuisine quite impeccably. Vegetarian, vegan, dessert, or meat-lover, there is a dish for you. The dining area is always bustling with students stuffing their plates and scents of freshly-prepared meals. No matter how picky the eater, you will come out feeling full and satisfied.

    Dorm Life

The dorms I would say are a little better than prison. Lol. You must prepare for dirt and grime (since you have many residents sharing the same bathrooms), and must bear frustration. Always make sure you respect your roommate if you're living with one or plan on it; things may get a little crazy if you're not used to sharing your personal space. Besides that, there is great joy in living in a community of females and males paving the way for strong friendships that will develop for years to come.

    Academic Rigor

I'm in the Business program otherwise known as S.B.I. (School of Business and Industry), although a one-credit class, they work you to the bone! We're known for pushing our students to the limit and stretching them past boundaries they would've never dared to enter on their own. However, it also depends on the student. If you are willing to stretch your limits, capitalize on your current knowledge, and expand on your capabilities, this is the school for you.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're going to live on campus, prepare for sleepless nights! Things get a little rowdy! Utilize your campus resources whether it be teachers, books, or even your own peers. Stay focused on your academics because Florida A&M can be a big distraction (parties, probates, multiple social events), especially if your head is not already in the game.

    In three sentences

If you're looking for a tight-knit community based on community and fun, Florida A&M is the school for you! Although predominately black, the students and faculty here are diverse in spirit and charismatic; genuine and open-minded to everyone. If you value smaller classrooms for an intimate learning setting and professors that push you to the limit who want to see you grow, this is the place to be,

i enjoy school and extracurricular activity but what is most important is to ensure your academic success so that as you are enjoying activities you can rest assured that you are up to par when the weekend ends and there is an exam.

    Tips for prospective students

prospective students should be as early as possible in the area of deadlines. the further you are ahead, the more prepared you will be for any issues that could arise as a result of their losing or misplacement of files or paperwork. the students and professors are great however you always want to be sure that you go in with an understanding that you are dealing with responsible and also irresponsible adults who can be unpredictable at times.

    In three sentences

the school is well equipped to teach students on a high level and their ability to create moments for memories are great. there should be some revamping in the area of administrative duty. however, the way that there programs are centered creates pressure for the students to learn and be ahead after gradutation.

some of the dorms have been renovated and they are better than before. some are still not all that good and you may not like it. the rules of the dorms are all the same unless you live in the on-campus apartments in the palmettos. in most of the dorms you will share a room with 1 or 2 people. you can always request a room change if you do not like your situation though.

    Academic Rigor

i believe this is average and mixed. some classes will be easy. some classes will require much more work and studying. also depending on your major, you may be in the books all day or you may be able to have a lot of free time. i know the science and medical field majors seem to have students the busiest. this is not to discourage you because in the end it is worth it. just stay on top of everything.

    Tips for prospective students

this is a very active school and many things can occupy your time. make sure to choose class times that suit you. if you know you are not a morning person, stay away from morning classes because that could end up harming your gpa. have your priorities set; do not party all week forgetting about a project or paper that was due. make sure you study at least two days in advance for tests because cramming doesn't work all the time. also keep an agenda book to help you keep track of everything. you can save money by buying your books online as well. if you plan on pledging, never tell anyone. try to make friends with people in your classes and around campus because it will help you instead of being antisocial.

    In three sentences

florida a&m university is a very active university. you will become involved in a lot from schoolwork to volunteer work. most of the instructors make sure you learn life lessons as well as the regular lesson during class.

safety isn't as bad as you. think, and famu is on the south side. compared to fsu, who is right across the street, there crime rate is worse than ours. but i will say that doesn't mean walk around campus at 3:00am by yourself. the locals around tallahassee are a little crazy so just to say it is better to walk in numbers. also, famu does have a safe team that drives or walks you back to your apartment if your walking by yourself. but do beware if your by yourself on campus late, like 2:00am or 3:00am, higher possibility you'll get robbed.

    Bang for the buck

do stuff at the rec center instead of joining a local gym. free group classes, spa, rock climbing, all that fun stuff !!

    Food and Dining

yeah i'm gonna be honest not that much variety we have 3 places to eat, orange room, downstairs cafe, and the main cafe (upstairs). upstairs cafe is where you use your meal plans and they have fried chicken wednesday every wednesday, which always stayed packed. if your a freshman and live on campus in a dorm it is mandatory for you to get one. but if you live off campus, you'd rather get a really small one or just bring lunch, or go out to eat.

    Dorm Life

i lived in the dorms my freshman year. they are a little run down and sometimes the rules and ra's can be annoying, but the experience you get and the friends you make is worth staying in campus ! i met 2 of my really close friends living in the dorm(one was my former roommate) :)

    Academic Rigor

i've dabbled in different majors here at famu, i would say if your a science major you pretty much will have no life, but i've seen other majors that are just as tough and not so much.

    Tips for prospective students

make copies of everything, cause the school is still paper based and will lose your stuff from time to time. i'd advise you stay on campus and stay in the dorms for that good freshman experience

    In three sentences

After a few incidents FAMU have provided the campus with ample lighting, and organization called the Safe Team which if you call or text will come pick you and transport you around campus at night. the have the campus police posted all over campus and security officers in the library, cafeteria, and IT lounge room.

    Greek Life

Greek life is huge at FAMU. As you walk about the campus you will see several areas that has been marked with the organization Greek letters. The Greeks are HIGHLY active on campus and are easily spotted.

    Clubs and Activities

There are PLENTY to choose from each offering something a little different from the other. There are will over 50 organizations and clubs around campus with newly formed organizations every year! They post flyers and send emails to your FAMU email keeping you posted on upcoming events, recruitment, and volunteer opportunities!

Well what I found to be a little strange is that student body elections are taken VERY serious! They actually campaign as though they are real politicians.

    What to do for fun

FAMU has plenty of activities available. You have Set Friday which is a combination of music, vendors and FUNN! Also they have comedy shows, fashion shows, dance shows, ETC! There is a wide range of fun to be had. . . just do not party too hard! Also FAMU have numerous organizations to join based on cultural background, geographic background, majors, environmentalist, etc.

    Food and Dining

the food is actually really good. You are provided with a variety of selection each day. The cafeteria comes complete with a sub line, stir fry line, burger and pizza lines and also a salad and cereal bar which is provided each day. During breakfast you can have a custom made omelet that comes with any topping of your choice. Also a waffle maker is set up so you can make them to your liking! oh yeah! i cant forget the famous Fried Chicken Wednesday that alone speaks for itself. just know that they have the BEST chicken. Forewarning on Wednesday the cafeteria will be packed on these days! You also have the option to enjoy the on campus restaurants which varies from Pizza Hut to Magic Johnson Sub Connection.

    Dorm Life

A lot of the dormitories are undergoing reconstruction or are being remodeled. the newly remodeled dorms are very nice they come with complete with lounge areas on each floor that comes with gaming systems and computers if need. You have the option to actually live either in dorm style or apartment styled living. But its first come first serve basis so DO NOT wait until the last minute to apply for housing. There are buses that runs every 20 minutes to transport you around campus and to the campus housing. All housing also comes with resident assistance's, and an adult supervisor over each housing area. Also there is always a resident director available to issue with problem ranging from roommate issues, school or even personal life problem. Which can come in handy.

    Academic Rigor

Since being at Florida A&M, I have noticed a significant change in the way the handle academics. FAMU have incorporated a new program in which your assigned adviser will be able to go in and check your grades and if you just happen to not being doing so well they will contact you personally to see what needs to be done to assist you in passing the course (Tutor,Withdrawal, Etc) FAMU has definitely cracked down and became more firm.

    Tips for prospective students

Being that FAMU is located in a college town, surrounded by two other college/universities FSU and TCC just make sure your able to focus! Also responsibility plays a HUGEE role when coming to college, you are now responsible for everything, so make copies of all your paperwork. Attend all classes and if your having any type of issue and/or problem you can go to your teacher office hours. I highly recommend attending office hours. Teachers LOVE a student that shows effort!

There are campus police and security around the clock. Just be careful especially at night. It is pretty safe but no matter the security, always be careful and aware of your surroundings.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has good food. It is buffet style. So a meal plan would be very helpful as a student. There are not many great food options or that many healthy choices but they are making some changes. The food court has about 3 places (kfc/pizza hut, and a little cafe place) around campus there is the orange room which has pretty good food. It is alittle pricy but worth it and then they have dining in the foote hilyer which is home cooked soul food.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is ok. Like most college dorm, they are small. The smallest one is paddy foote. They have dorm floor meetings which you should attend to be aware of what is going on. It is a great way to make friends and you have easy access to the events on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on the major the academics can be hard or ok. Being an elementary education major is not as easy as it sounds. It takes lots of dedication, time management and creativity to keep up and do well. Attendance is very important also in being able to pass your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, make sure you take care of financial aid early and be persistent and on top of it. If not you will have many issues that may put you behind. Also don't get caught up in the party life. It will not do well for your academics. But participate in the student life activities. Such as student goverment, homecoming events, plays, etc. This will enhance your experience and create a good social network.

Even though colleges have extreme amounts of security, one should still use their own ways of safety also. When walking one should always walk with a partner, especially at night due to the risk of anything harmful happening. Students should also at night try to find a way to stay noticeable by wearing bright colors or reflectors to help to be seen.

    Dorm Life

The on campus dorm life was a great experience that all college students should go through. It really helps with getting to know your schoolmates and to gain some friends that may have the same major as you or could help you in certain subjects. Students would also have to learn to deal with other personalities and how to live with someone and on their own.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulties in the classroom and the school work given may not come to every student, but the ones that may encounter problems in the classroom or homework presented should quickly find work. In college one should never be afraid to ask for help because that is what the professor is there for. The professor actually looks for the student that ask questions because he or she may be asking a question other students wanted to ask. So the work given may sometimes be a problem but students just need to remember to ask questions and stay active in the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for upcoming students would be to stay focus on the reason why they came to college and keep their grades up. College comes with numerous problems that one will encounter and have to make swift decisions on. So if there is anything I would tell to the prospective students is to inform them to stay focus on the important things and then have a little fun afterwards.

The set- Right in front of Diamond & McGuinn and the H. Manning Efferson building. When ever some says I represent all FAMUans say Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University October 3rd, 1887. Whhatt??? in unison. It's crazy and it fills you with pride.

    Bang for the buck

Due to the fact that it is an HBCU, you get a great education for a much lower price. You're getting an amazing deal. A little more than the price of community college credit hours with a much better quality of education

    What to do for fun

There is ALWAYS something going on. A party, clubs, the set, get togethers in your dorm hall. You will never be bored unless you choose to be lazy. We have a great new gym, intramural sports and plenty of students to go meet with if you are bored lol

    Food and Dining

The Cafe is great. Cafeteria food is never amazing but for a cafeteria the food is pretty good. You have a lot of options if you don't like what is being served that day. There is always hamburgers or grilled chicken sandwiches, fries, pizza and salad. The dessert is amazing and there is a good variety of beverages. The only downfall of the cafe is that it is too far!!!

    Dorm Life

The dorms at FAMU are not the greatest. Honestly this is the greatest downfall of the university. None of the dorms are nice except the boy dorms that were just remodeled. (Sampson & Young i think) Other than that they are little run down but for the most part liveable. However, that is not the case for all of them so be careful. DONT END UP IN PADDYFOOTE!!

    Academic Rigor

It really just depends on you as a student. College is not hard at all but, you have to make yourself do the work with many more distractions than usual and sometimes you run into difficult professors. Some of them are strict and want more from you because they want to push you. Others just are not good. They have strong accents and short patience. It is very relative.

    Tips for prospective students

There are A LOT of parties so do not slip upon your homework or miss a class just for a party. There will be more the next month, the next week, the next day. I promise. Also, do not let people deter you from having pride in this school simply because of what they have heard. Most people who talk trash about out university have never even set foot on this campus. Keep that in mind.

    In three sentences

It is a great school depending on what you want in a university. Especially if you are a black student who isn't used to having determined educated black people around to positively motivate you.

In most cases, the amount of money it costs for things is not reasonable.

    What to do for fun

Hanging out with friends and going to places off campus can be fun and a great stress reliever as well.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is not always free so budgeting is important.

    Dorm Life

Students keep in mind that although the dorm is your temporary home, you are not back at home which can make living a bit more difficult. And sharing facilities with others is not always pleasant.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are more severe than others.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students remember that you are there for a purpose. There will be several distractions and people who will try to use up your time but remember that time is valuable and you cannot get it back. Also keep in mind that, unless you are on a full scholarship, you are paying your money so you want to get your absolute money's worth. And if you are on a scholarship you usually have to work harder than other students so that you may retain your scholarship.

    In three sentences

To the eye, this university is really a fashion and beauty school. But once you focus on your classes you realize you have to be focused and dedicated. The classes are great and most professors are great as well.

    Campus Safety

I stay in Palmetto south where there are always police officers outside and ready for anything. While walking around on campus you will notice emergency posts that are available whenever needed. I haven't noticed or encountered any danger, harassment or been violated but I am sure if I did the security will be right there to help.

    Greek Life

The Sororities and Fraternities are very serious as well. They are always performing and throwing parties and socials. Everyone pretty much sticks together and you can tell that they are enjoying what they are doing which is the whole purpose. One thing that I will inform you on is if you are interested make sure you tell no one because secrecy is key,

    Clubs and Activities

As far as clubs and activities go here we have plenty, poetry club, Student Government Association, football, track, basketball ,volleyball, cheerleading, baseball, etc. If you are interested make sure you speak to coaches and advisers and have dedication because everything is taken very seriously here.

Great for these types of students

If your the type who likes to write poetry we have poetry clubs, a full recreation center for those who like to work out. And a huge library for those who like to keep their heads in a book. Our school also has a Bowling alley and pool room is located in the Rattler's Den for those who like to bowl and play pool.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

As of right now I don't know of any unusual traditions everything I have seen or done as far as our chants and little games and dances are pretty much normal in my world.

    Bang for the buck

We have a lot of times where we come together and cook watch tv and just hang out. Stay away from most of these guys who try and get you to go to their room (girls). Keep your nose out of anything that doesn't have anything to do with you. Remember to respect yourself, parents and family don't do anything that will cause you to get kicked out or on probation.

    What to do for fun

Every week it seems as if there is some type of party to go to. As a freshman or transfer student I advise you to try and attend every event, remembering to finish your work though. Free food is always good for college students and you get a chance to meet your peers. I believe everyone should try and experience the full college life

    Food and Dining

I was told that food has gotten better from previous years I don't really eat that much but when I do go to the cafe I always go for the pizza. Fried chicken Wednesdays are the best student leave class early just to get to the cafe. They close at six so you want to get there as early as possible. I didn't get a meal plan for the summer because I felt it was pointless. However in the fall I will be in the cafe every day for my three square meals. Enjoy!

    Dorm Life

I personally like having my own room but everyone doesn't get that lucky. If and when you do have your roommate try to become as close as possible because you don't want any tension for a whole semester. There are constant room checks and a whole lists of what and what not to do.

    Academic Rigor

When you start getting into your majors your professors expect you to buckle down and do what you have to do. When a paper or an assignment is due by 11:59 by a certain day make sure you turn it in then. Unlike high school teachers professors here will not baby you, and will expect you to go by your syllabus to find out when things are due because you wont be told or reminded.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a new student or thinking about attending DO IT there is no better way to get the full college experience. We have so many things to offer and you are never going to feel left out. Welcome week is amazing and all activities are fun and exciting. However make sure you stay focus and finish school because it's easy to get off track.

    Clubs and Activities

Like for example they have clubs representing different cities and when you join you usually communicate with people from where you are from. There are also clubs that are there for you to meet people from different cities and states. Activities are usually voluntary and that's what I love the most.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every friday we gather at the set which is in the middle of campus on the very top of The Hill and we listen to music, dance and buy things that they sell. Usually they sell clothing, jewelry, posters etc. mainly pertaining to African-American culture.

Organizations and parties that we put our money towards go for a good cause and we are there to help one another out.

    What to do for fun

Of course they have organizations on campus that many people can become involved in. College is basically a small world in one city. We have elections for class positions, pageants, football games, talent shows, concerts, parties and every Friday we have a traditional get together for music and laughter on a spot in the middle of campus. I say it's a small world because everyone is like family to one another, we help each other out. Everyone is there for the same reasons, just about and so we push for excellence and at the same time we love each other.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining can be very diverse, but living on campus all semester it will eventually get old because of course they can repeat meal courses. But all in all, the food is healthy, I've never heard of anyone becoming sick from the food. The choices are good.

They clean them weekly and each and every dorm administrator is responsible for keeping the students involved in school and on-campus life. Dorm life is pretty good every dorm does their own thing really but people get a lot closer staying in the dorms especially in Paddyfoote. Although the rooms are small the bonding is greater, the RA's are always somewhere you can reach them, it is close to the Dinning Hall and many of the bus stops. All in all dorm life is good.

    Academic Rigor

Academics can get rigorous but you can control the rigor of your schedule. If you believe that you can only handle a certain amount of classes with a certain amount of difficulty at one time then go for it but if you think it's too much don't do it.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember what you came to school to do and that's get an education. Make sure you put your schoolwork first, do not be afraid to ask for help if you strugle with something. If you are having problems outside of the educational spectrum, you can still find someone to talk to about whether it be a professor, another student, a counselor etc. you will never have to go through something alone. Know your campus resources because you never know when you will need to put them to use. Do not lose or forget your Rattler card it holds many benefits.

    In three sentences

It is an HBCU but it is not limited to just African American students, there are students from many people form different ethnic backgrounds that attend school here. It is a very social school so you will not be left out of anything.

But, the professors are caring and helpful. They offer office hours and their contact information. They encourage you to visit them at least once or twice. That way you can actually get to know your prof. vice versa. Also are study and tutor halls in almost every building.

    Tips for prospective students

    What to do for fun

There are always different events, such as athletic games, socials, fashion shows, dance shows, or even parties to go to. Homecoming is the best. Just make sure you prioritize your grades and fun.

    Food and Dining

Our on-campus food establishments are growing. We have the traditional buffet-cafeteria which actually serves really good food. The we also have the downstairs cafeteria which has Tropical Smoothie, W.O.W, and Pizza Hut. The library has Jazzmine's Cafe which is not bad. The Rattler's Nest in Foote-Hilyer is AMAZING. And course there is the Orange Room which has another W.O.W and Magic Johnson's Sub Connection.

    Dorm Life

Dorms here are not exactly the best, but if you can bare sharing a community bathroom with a ton of people then I would suggest you do it. It helps you get the full freshmen experience and you will also be right on campus. After you experience it yourself, then you should decide if living on campus is best for you.

    Academic Rigor

    Campus Safety

I feel the campus is fairly safe. Since the campus is next to a neighborhood with not so nice people, anyone can stray around campus pretending to be students or at night walking around searching for trouble. Thankfully, Florida A&M University's police department is always alert for any unusual behavior. The department also provides safety updates to make students aware.

    Greek Life

Since I am a freshman at Florida A&M Univerisity, I am not very knowledgeable of all the Greek fraternities and sororities on campus. From what I have observed, there are very friendly and proud people, perform their traditons at events around campus and allow others to join almost every semester.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs/organizations and activites for students on campus. The best part about it is that there is something for everyone to be apart of. FAMU provides organiztions for students with certain majors like Biology, pharamacy, political science, theater, nursing, sbi and many more. Also, these clubs are there to better each student and provide them with opportunites such as shadowing doctors, internships, service hours, etc.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Some unusual traditions that Florida A&M University has on campus that most univerisites don't is electing a male and female to become Mr. and Miss Florida Agricultural and Mechanial University to serve as role models, leaders and represent the school well. Also, once there are two people elected, there is a huge and important event called the Coronation Ceremony/Ball which is similar to a wedding and reception for Mr. and Miss FAMU.

    Bang for the buck

For certain events in Tallahassee, students may have to pay a little more then expected to attend but it is all worth it. Around homecoming week, all prices are raised to attend events like going to clubs or concerts but because people come back to their university, it is well worth the money spent.

    What to do for fun

In tallahassee, there are a selected things to do for fun. For example, there are clubs, house and juice parties, meet and greet socials, the mall, clubs to be apart of and a bowling alley on campus. You will never find yourself bored on campus especially if your with your friends as well.

    Food and Dining

At Florida A&M University, living on campus is not that bad. In fact, it is very convenient because all of student's resources are within short walking distance. However, because it is an HBCU, the dorms are not very modern and have been renovated years ago.

    Academic Rigor

Do not be fooled because Florida A&M University is a Historically Black College University. In comparison to other schools, the rigor is estimated to be about the same and there are some very smart students who graduate with a degree. The professor are there to help and well prepare their students for the real world.

    Tips for prospective students

For those intereted in attending Florida A&M University, I suggest that you do some research on the college and if possible, try and visit. Also, if you are able to contact a current student or look on the interent for videos about the school as a whole, that would be very helpful for your decision.

    Dorm Life

All I will say is that the rooms are nice but the bathrooms will need some getting use to.

    Academic Rigor

There is honestly no set requirement... It just depends on how you look on paper because you could accepted like me for having a slightly low GPA but high ACT scores.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't expect the college to be equal at 5 star hotel. It's decent for college students. Don't tell people what you plan to pledge or run for because it will hurt choices of getting in.

FAMU PD can be soooo slow. But it is overall a safe campus.

    Greek Life

A++ that's really all I can say. You have to experience it for yourself.

    Clubs and Activities

THERE ARE SO MANY CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS! There is something for everyone. Gay clubs, choirs, art, sororities, fraternities, etc. Plus they have booths on a specific week in the semester at which you can sign up for these clubs. HOWEVER, freshmen cannot join MOST clubs. It just depends.. ask around.

Great for these types of students

Anyone! Really. It is so much fun. It'll be even more fun your sophomore year because you can live off-campus and you can have a vehicle.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The strolls are really necessary to learn! They may seem a little difficult at times, but they're fun. One tradition we have that seems to be popular is Set Fridays. This is like a mini-festival with vendors and a DJ, students, Greeks, and all that good stuff that happens on the set every Friday. It's lots of fun.

    Bang for the buck

I mean, you get your money's worth out of your tuition. You will receive a quality education. The different acts of foolery that go on will make you wonder a little sometimes though. Just saying.

    What to do for fun

There is a party/event every day of the week. Literally. You'll find something to do and/or somewhere to go.

    Food and Dining

There are many places to eat on campus. Wow Wingery, Magic Johnson Sub Connection, Pizza Hut.. just the regular cafe.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not THAT bad. But the rules and fines are a tad ridiculous. Watch the videos on youtube. They're pretty factual.

    Academic Rigor

Great professors. Some easy, some hard. But most are very nice and personable. But the science professors have really thick, annoying accents.

    Tips for prospective students

Just be honest in your application. Even though our administration can be slow at times, they will look out for their students. Once you get it, (which you should) you really do become a part of this FAMUly.

    In three sentences

FAMU is a wonderful institution not only for blacks, but for EVERYONE! There is so much opportunity and so much fun to be had on the hill. I encourage any and everybody to at least apply to Florida A&M University.

Fried Chicken Wednesday is a self explanitory tradition that brings everyone out. Set Friday is a big block party on the main part of campus, with music, vendors and sometimes free stuff. Homecoming is HUGE and loads of fun.

    What to do for fun

Partying is of course available almost any day of the week, but theres also tons of events from organizations all the time. Getting involved in a club or organization opens lots of opportunities for fun as well. Everyday is as fun as you make it, you never know what your going to get into.

    Food and Dining

If you have a meal plan you may find the food gets boring after awhile but for the most part its good and free so take advantage.

    Dorm Life

Dorm Life isn't for everyone. Personally I hate it. I'll just say everyone is not as clean as they appear, especially when it comes down to the restroom. I was blessed with a sane roommate but i kno many people who were not so lucky,Handle everything in stride and try to make your room feel like home.

    Academic Rigor

College is much easier than High school in my Opinion. It just takes a little more studying when it comes time for a test but homework is rare and generally easy. There are so many resources on campus like the Math Lab and Writing Center that you should never feel overwhelmed unless your not prioritizing.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come in expecting anything, except to have a good time. Be weary of who you call your friends at first, but once you think you found at least one or two special friends help each other as much as possible. Get involved in as much as possible college is what you make it.

    Dorm Life

I enjoy dorm life SOMETIMES. When I'm not on campus, I usually am out of town or at the mall or at my boyfriend's house. You WILL hear random chanting outside your window at all hours of the night by the fraternities and sororities but you find that they sound REALLY amazing and you'll sit at your window and listen but they will get annoying after a while. Some residents are annoying just for the simple fact that they are LOUD and run up and down the hallways screaming and laughing

    Academic Rigor

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the campus fool you. It might not be the nicest campus that you've seen but a college is more than it's campus. Be prepared to walk because there is a lot of hills and it's a big campus. Have an open mind to everything because things will turn out differently than you think. Most of all, be proactive about your academics and finances!!! If you don't do it, it won't get done

    Campus Safety

Our campus is major on safety. We have a safe team. If you call a number late at night because you want a ride from somewhere on campus (maybe after a party or a late night of studying at the library) & you don't feel safe walking, someone will come in a cart and pick you up to take you home for no charge.

    What to do for fun

In Tallahassee there are 2 university and 1 community college so there is always something to do. At FAMU we have party page & class page so join those to keep up with what there is to do every night. On Fridays, we have 'Set Fridays' where venders come out to sell clothes, shoes, hats, accessories, flags and many more things. During this time we have a dj on 'the set' and there's a lot of dancing and strolling of greeks.

    Food and Dining

On campus we have the cafe, the food court, jazzmans, green room and the orange room. The Cafe is the cafeteria. It's all you can eat style open for breakfast lunch and dinner. It is the only dining service open on the weekend. The food court is under the cafe. There you can get food to go because the cafe doesn't allow carrying out food. In the food court there is also pizza hut, wow wings and tropical smoothie. Jazzmans is FAMU's version of starbucks located in the library. Green room is located near financial aid. Although I have never had it, I heard they have the best soul food. The orange room is the place to be for breakfast. In the afternoon wow wings and sub connection are open. This is open until midnight monday-thursday but closes at 4 on fridays.

    Dorm Life

The female dorm life is all I can speak on. The on campus dorms are livable but the best dorms are the apartment style Palmetto North, Palmetto South and Phase 3. Those are co-ed but only allow same sex roommates. They also include kitchens, personal bathrooms and a living room.

    Academic Rigor

While the work can be challenging, most of the teachers make a serious effort to assist students.

    Tips for prospective students

The best tip for incoming students is to get involved. Even if you aren't a member of the student government you are welcome to sit in on meetings. Joining a dance or modeling troupe also helps keep you busy, in shape and social. At Florida A&M University we also have clubs united by their culture or even state and city to help you feel more at home.

There are more parking enforcement riding around trying to give out citations than FAMU police, but they do send out text message alerts when and if anything unusual takes place on or near campus that students need to be aware of.

    Greek Life

I wouldn't know i'm not in any organizations but they are all active and involved in the community and within the school.

    Clubs and Activities

There's a plethora of activities and clubs to join. If there's a club you can think of i'm sure FAMU has a club for it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Set friday as mentioned above is where the pre weekend party happens on campus from 12-3 every Friday.

    What to do for fun

FAMU has this thing called Set Friday and its basically a party on our set with the campus' hottest dj. All the organizations come out and stroll or do their dances when their song comes on. It's a really great experience especially for the freshmen. There are plenty of clubs around tallahassee to go to tuesday, wednesday, and friday if that's the type of fun one may be seeking.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is marvelous on campus there is a great variety of food selection across the campus so you can't go hungry...EVER! lol

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is not that great. I can't tell you one person that enjoys staying on campus or in dorms, but it is a part of the freshmen experience and you learn about yourself from living with complete strangers.

    Academic Rigor

The professors are exactly that professors. They are not here to be our friends they are here to help us gain the knowledge we need to know to be successful in the career of our choice. Rate my professor helps a lot though (-:

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and get any information you need in as soon as you can and make copies of everything you send to the school. Once accepted its natural to be nervous but don't be afraid to ask questions.

    In three sentences

Never stayed in dorm so I can't speak upon that but haven't heard any complaints.

    Academic Rigor

Just like I said above, you must actually understand the material. If not the teachers will work with you and they offer many tutorial labs to help.

Find out about the Florida A&M University Police Department and get a contact number that you can call if you need help while you are on campus. Be sure to keep all of your expensive belongings in a chest that has a lock and key. If you are assaulted on campus fill a report, anything that isn't on record didn't happen. Ladies do not walk around alone on campus at night, walk with a group of friends. Males you should do the same thing.

    Greek Life

There are many greek organizations that you can join for males and females like: Sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Delta Sigma Theta Zeta Phi Beta ' Fraternities: Omega Psi Phi Alpha Phi Alpha and the list goes on...................

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for those who want to attend a Historically Black College. Those who want to be apart of a prestigious Marching Band and would like a band scholarship. This school is great for Pharmacy, Business, Public Administration, and Engineering Majors.

    Bang for the buck

This school will be to you whatever you make out of it. Take advantage of every opportunity from day one. Be studious and serious about your work your freshman year don't play around with your education.

    What to do for fun

There are many different things to do for fun like attending social events, going to a school football or basketball game, comedy show, dance competition, poetry night, and more.

    Food and Dining

You definitely need a meal plan if you are going to be staying on campus. All of this information will be explained to you once you get accepted to the school. Remember that you get a certain amount of meals per plan, so don't use them to the point that you run out of meals.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life can be a fun experience. You are likely to have a roommate, hopefully you will be able to get along with that person. My advice is to speak up if your roommate does something you don't agree with, communication will help you get along better. You need to compromise on certain issues or else you will end up dis-liking the person and they might start mistreating you as a result. Be sure to attend all dorm meetings, if you cannot let your R.A. know, my freshman year you could get fined for missing a dorm meeting.

    Academic Rigor

Don't be afraid to ask questions in class whether your professor asks or not? No question is a dumb question. If you need extra help in any subject go see your professor during his or her office hours. You need to purchase the textbook for the classes so that you can study at home. Take notes in class so you know what to study for the tests. Study everyday for small amounts of time so you can be prepared for pop quizzes.

    Tips for prospective students

To get the most out of your experience at this school from the day you step foot onto the campus connect yourself with successful minded people who are apart of academic clubs and organizations. Speak with a school counselor about the classes that you need to take in order to stay on track for graduation. Do not spend to much of your time trying to fit in with others, I learned that it is ok to be different. Stay motivated, and surround yourself with positive people.

    In three sentences

As a University, Florida A&M offers many different majors of study to perspective students. It is a well respected institution that facilitates learning on many different degree levels. Good Safety hired patrol officers walk the campus at night.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is highly fascinating as a freshmen you would look at the Greek life as something you would immediately want to get into but as you gradually advance at the school you'll have some re-considerations.

    Clubs and Activities

The Clubs and activities are actually fun for students but its only the matter of how much students are willing to participate along with it. Not enough school spirit within the school.

    Bang for the buck

based on the price range of this school it does seem a bit pricey as a freshmen but if you see the prices at other institutions Florida A&M prices are worth what they are.

    What to do for fun

What to do for fun is join organizations that YOU would enjoy and spend time with friends that likes what you like for that would make the best experience.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining also needed a change and I believe they are slowly becoming better at the dining services they are providing. It has come a long way from what they had prior.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life just needs a whole entire makeover and I believe the school knows they just don't and they are slowly but surely changing the dorm rooms.

    Academic Rigor

The Academics there are just as hard because teachers do not spare anyone your grade is what you earn and very few would curve to help.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are coming to Florida A&M make sure you have prior information on the school before attending. You don't want to show up then look around like what now. Also either make a friend or find a friend because if not you would look like you're alone and the students aren't all approachable.

    In three sentences

Florida A&M is overall just an okay school. You have to do work to get by but without any extracurricular activities it would seem as a dull school. Its not all that bad but it Isn't all that great either.

    What to do for fun

Make sure you take time out to make friends. There is always something going on at FAMU there will be promos for parties or function around every corner. and if your not in the know don't hesitate to ask somebody will know something.

You have the perfect location, your technically in the heart of the campus with everything only a few steps away. Also be prepared to be exposed to new people living there. Where you'll make friends for life or some girls you'll survive with out them. But have fun

    Academic Rigor

The Academic rigor is not so bad its what can distract you from getting your work done. There always something fun going on so get your work done first then you can enjoy it, it will always be there.
