Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great school for someone that wants to attend a major university, yet one where they won't be lost in the chaos. People who like being away from a major city but also close enough if they need one will do well here. The campus is beautiful and the people are great!
Tips for prospective students Make multiple copies of the syllabus and keep them everywhere. Keep up with reading and it helps to start studying when you find out a test date, not the night or just hours before. Also, go to extra help if a professor offers it and participate in class.
Bang for the buck It's affordable for Florida Residents.
Am enjoying being here I love the atmosphere! It's not huge, but it's big enough. The people are amazing and always there to help. Most of my professors knew me by name and I wasn't just a name on a long list to them.
Am learning a lot I am learning a lot both through lectures and self-teaching. When your professor says read, READ!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is great for students who like small class sizes and want to enjoy all that Florida has to offer.
Tips for prospective students Biology is the hardest class I had ever taken. It was a wake up call to me. Just study, go to class, pay attention in class and you will do fine.
Bang for the buck Every University is expensive, but if you want to get the most out of your money while living on campus FGCU is the place for you. The North Lake Village apartments are so nice. You have your own bedroom in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, kitchen, and living-room apartment.
Am enjoying being here The University campus is beautiful. I have a dorm right on the waterfront. There is always something to do. Plenty of clubs and activities to keep you involved. It is what you make of it.
Am learning a lot I learn something new everyday in and out of class. I joined the Honors Program and love it. All my professors wished me the best in my classes. The classes are small which presents the opportunity to get to know the teachers and receive one on one help.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Honors, Education majors, Anyone!
Tips for prospective students Do your homework. The syllabus is your Bible! Show up to class. Have fun and get involved!
Bang for the buck This school is definitely a bang for the buck. They have plenty of scholarships for you to apply for as well as having one of the lowest tuition rates.
Am enjoying being here This school is not exactly a big school yet with a lot of things to pull people together, but there is some clubs & sororities & fraternities of course. They also like to make it a habit to get everyone out to the lake for swimming and jet skiing and things like that. It's fun though!
Am learning a lot This school is a great school. Of course you will learn, but this school really provides a great learning experience. The faculty & staff are helpful and will give you a good education.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students This school is perfect for someone that wants to be a name and not a number. The class sizes are around 20-30 students. This is also a perfect school for someone that is interested in the environment and wanting to promote a greener Earth.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for Biology! It is an eye opener to college and one of the hardest courses they offer here. Although for the most part if you follow the syllabus, go to class, pay attention, and study for test, you will do just fine.
Bang for the buck For the most part your money is well spent here. They offer reasonable tuition and and fair meal plan. I do believe housing fees are a bit on the high side compared to other Florida schools.
Am enjoying being here I am a Freshmen here and so far I love it. There is always activities to participate in. This school is still new and is constantly improving and expanding all parts of campus. It is also super easy to make friends as it is a good community of people.
Am learning a lot Every teacher here is willing to help you if you are struggling or have a question. They actually care about you and will try their best to help you succeed. All teachers have a amount of hours they are available outside of class if you need the extra assistance.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want one-on-one time with their professors, want a medium sized school, who are okay with doing a lot of assignments online (we are a green campus), and students who like to take on leadership roles. Since everything is developing, there are numerous leadership opportunities. I would also say someone who likes to enjoy the outdoors!
Tips for prospective students MEET WITH YOUR PROFESSORS! Going in for help makes all the difference so take advantage of office hours. Also, make sure you don't procrastinate. You know all your assignments from the first day of class so if you keep up with deadlines you will do just fine. FGCU is a growing university. Don't be scared off because it isn't as big as the other Florida colleges. It is still a lot of fun and provides an amazing education. Several of FGCU's educational programs are amongst the top and have great credibility. I visited over 20 college campuses and FGCU stood out the most to me.
Bang for the buck If you are a Florida resident, this is the place to be. FGCU offers amazing scholarships and 'Bright Futures' to Florida residents. However, don't be scared off if you are out of state because there are also scholarship opportunities for you such as an 'Out-of-state Tuition Waiver'. Either way, you could attend this school for a reasonable price.
Am enjoying being here Being from Illinois, I love everything about FGCU. Of course the warm weather is nice, and my stay at the beautiful water front will never be over spent. Even though FGCU is still growing, there is still plenty to do and get involved with. Personally I am in the Honors program, a sorority, and I also participate in intramural sports. There are shopping centers nearby, numerous school events and concerts like Eaglepalooza and Bird Bash to attend, and everything is in pristine condition because the school is still young.
Am learning a lot I am learning more than I thought I would and it is because of the way my classes and professors are. The class sizes are perfect for me which are typically around 30 students. Even the few lectures that I have are still small enough where I don't feel intimidated or lost. The professors are very open to help and the class environment gives each student as much attention as they need. I feel like I learn something new everyday and most of my professors teach with passion which makes me remember everything.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those with an avid love of learning, looking for a college with a smaller community (though it is rapidly growing), and anyone looking for an affordable college education in SW Florida
Tips for prospective students One main tip I go by is to scope out your classrooms beforehand. By doing this, on the first day of school it'll be a lot easier to find your classes and calculate how much time you'll need to get from one place to another. Also, parking is usually hectic, so make sure to give yourself a good extra 10-15 minutes to find a parking spot if you'll be driving to campus.
Bang for the buck Overall I can't imagine enjoying college much more than I do at FGCU. The classes are reasonably priced for the education provided, and it's a great place to be. The school always has scholarships running as well, so participating in those helps cut down on the funds needed to attend. My one gripe is with the prices of food at the on-campus dining areas (mainly the convenience store), but I've seen this happen at a lot of other colleges too, so I suspect it's pretty common.
Am enjoying being here Living off campus (and being a bit reserved as is), I initially thought it would be difficult for me to make new friends and enjoy the college lifestyle. I was quickly proven wrong. The other students that I've encountered while here have all been extraordinarily nice. Campus involvement also helps, and there are a ton of clubs to join, as well as school-funded activities to participate in (lots of tournaments, concerts, game days, etc.) The campus is laid out beautifully and provides an ever-relaxing setting in which to either study, hang out with friends, or just sit an relax. The campus itself is lovely enough, but there's a lot more to be done just outside school grounds at either GulfCoast Town Center, Miromar Outlets, or my favorite, the Estero Community Center. Because the college is centrally located, there's always something to do whether you want to stick around school or not.
Am learning a lot I've been attending FGCU for two years now, and though I was originally reserved in attending the college (most of my friends were going off to larger, more well-known schools) I am exceptionally glad that I decided to stick around. All the teachers I've had have been just phenomenal. My primary focus of study in English, and though that's my passion, the teachers for my other required courses have lent to me the enjoyment of their fields of study as well. As for my regular professors (those I end up having multiple classes with in line with my major), all of them are absolutely brilliant. It's great to see how much they genuinely enjoy what their teaching, and in turn, it is a lot easier for the students to get caught up in that love of knowledge as well. Within the short while I've been at the college, I've learned (and enjoyed the subject material) more than I could ever have imagined.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those people who like small classes and hands on are a good fit for FGCU.
Tips for prospective students Get involved to meet people. I am in the tennis club and met a lot of people through there. Also, dont procrastinate especially when it comes to studying. There are options such as tutors, centers, etc. to get you through.
Bang for the buck It is affordable and they offer scholarships in which you do one application and it automatically gives you a chance for every scholarship. Also, fill out the FAFSA for more options.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful. There is a small man made beach right on campus that allows you to do many things like canoe, water ski, etc. It is not that small of a campus where you see the same person every day but not a big campus where you can not meet anyone.
Am learning a lot The class sizes are small, which allows you to have a more one on one learning environment. Most teachers will do whatever they can to help you pass. While they do not have as many class options as a bigger university, they still have some interesting classes to choose from.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Medical-bound, serious, sociable
Tips for prospective students Please, please only come to this school if you are a serious student. It isn't a very big school, and the choices for classes are limited and it ticks me off how slacker students will take away spots in classes that I need to get into and then end up dropping out a few weeks later. Don't do that, please.
Bang for the buck I don't think the professors are the best.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful and they do their best to make sure there are activities for everybody to get involved in. There's a Starbucks on campus. It's amazing. Probably the best one in town.
Am learning a lot I would highly recommend RateMyProfessor.com. It weeds out the horrible professors from the great ones. It hasn't steered me wrong yet.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It you;re a nature freak this school is perfect for you. And if you are not...like me then this school will open your eyes and allow you to meet many friendly people from all over.
Bang for the buck The school is worth every penny in your pockect, besides the food plan; only because sometimes its better to cook your own food and not eat out all the time.
Am enjoying being here I love it here in Fort Myers.Theres always something to do. People here are very friendly which took me by suprise; theres never a night or day where you'll be bored to death. And the best thing about this school is that it is fairly new building tradition's year after year. So if theres something you stand for and want to start a club the collge willl let you.
Am learning a lot The teachers at this University are very helpful, forgiving, and willing. Many of the profeessors here like intereact and get to know each student to help them and make a difference in your life. Its just to good be true.Thet also have a Writing Center where professors sit down with you and help you with any type of paper you are writing to help you succeed and get an A.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Self-motivated learners, individuals with environmental interests, creative minds (there isn't much to do in Fort Myers), people who can tolerate not having a football team or general apathy when it comes to team spirit.
Tips for prospective students If you are interested in attending FGCU, definitely take a campus tour. Nothing compares to actually being at a location to get a feel for a school. It is not too difficult to get in, but unless you truly want to be here you won't be happy.
Bang for the buck I don't know of any college that is affordable (unless perhaps community college). I believe FGCU is cheaper than the more popular Florida universities but it's still expensive.
Am enjoying being here I love the campus. The Floridian ecology is well preserved and gorgeous. The school also has a private lake which is nice to study and tan by. In general, the students are nice and we have a laid back sense of community. However, many freshman are dismayed to find that we aren't a party school. Sure people throw the occasional party but if people really want to get loose they are wise enough to do it off-campus.
Am learning a lot The relatively small size of the school in conjunction with nice professors who care makes FGCU a great place to study. Especially for freshmen and sophomores, the teachers make themselves very available to you and they are rather flexible with their office hours. Don't hesitate, if you ever feel you have a question about what you are learning, to email your professor. Overall, teachers appreciate effort and you will get out of it as much as you put in.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Any student would be comfortable here, but the university definitely stresses the importance of sustainability. If this sounds appealing to you, prepare to make FGCU your home sweet home!
Tips for prospective students Become involved, communicate with your professors, and don't shy away from participating in class discussion.
Bang for the buck I love that FGCU has their Foundation Scholarships to help students offset the cost of attending college. This college is much more affordable than the college that I transferred from.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful in that it incorporates the natural landscape into everything. The people are nice and the weather is wonderful here in southwest Florida!
Am learning a lot FGCU has professors that are really passionate about their subjects and their students. The professors here are reachable and willing to work with you if you're having trouble. Small class sizes help students to become more involved with their classmates. There are also great Supplemental Instruction programs and tutors available if you need a different way of looking at things.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who are used to a small school. If you like one on one attention the classes are small so you can receive that.
Tips for prospective students If your going to go here get involved. Find a club or organization that you would be interested in. If you don't get involved your going to miss out on so much
Bang for the buck If you're living on campus, the dorms are the best that I saw in my search for school.
Am enjoying being here I love going to school here. The campus is small so I see a friendly face everywhere I go.
Am learning a lot I'm always learning something new in my classes or from a student that I see on campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety FGCU was voted Florida's safest university this past year and its no question why. Theres a university police station right on campus with officers on duty 24/7. In each room theres also something we call a rape cord and if you ever feel in danger you just pull it and an officer will be at your door within minutes. We also have emergency polls within almost every few feet all around campus, all you do is press a button and you'll have an officer around within minutes as well.
Greek Life Greek life is a huge part of FGCU! Greek life is probably the best way to become involved and make life long friends at college. Unfortunately FGCU is to new to offer housing to its greek life just yet, but it is in the near future.
Clubs and Activities FGCU offers almost every kind of club you can imagine. From hockey (right across from a huge ice arena) to baking to religion. FGCU makes it almost impossible for a student to not be involved, theres something for everyone!
Great for these types of students FGCU is great for a variety of students but its especially great for the college student who loves the beach, lake, and all kinds of things that involve being outdoors and in the water. Our campus is filed with nature and water and being right on the west coast of Florida its the best place for this!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ever heard of Club Apple? Didn't think so. Interestingly enough FGCU student have managed to turn the Applebee's resturant just across from campus into one of the most popular clubs to go to on Wednesday nights. You may not believe me, but its a blast. Another place to see literally everyone with a social life on campus is to go to Bar Louies right up the street for $1 burger nights every Monday, and trust me when on a college budget you will definitely be takeing advantage of $1 burgers!
Bang for the buck FGCU is a moderately fair priced school. The housing is a bit expensive but worth every penny, considering its condition and age. Meal plans at FGCU are also very fairly priced.
What to do for fun Besides all the wake boarding, paddle boarding, sailing, tubing, tanning and tons of other water sports there is for you to do just outside your door on the campus lake FGCU also offers a great nightlife area. Theres tons of local bars and clubs to hang out at. And other things for the more calm student such as mini golf and bowling.
Food and Dining The campus dining is called Sovi and has the most delicious variety of foods you will ever find in a school cafeteria. Even if your picky and use to only your moms cooking, trust me...Sovi will always have something for you.
Dorm Life Dorm life at FGCU is beyond amazing! The apartment style dorms have 4 bedrooms 2 full bathrooms a huge living room and best of all a full kitchen in each room. Oh and might I add that these apartment style dorms on overlooking the campus lake where everyone hangs out at all day everyday.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at FGCU is very fair. Most often students pass with A's and B's if they put in mild effort.
Tips for prospective students Try and take as many of the interesting pre-reqs Gulf Coast has to offer before you hit your upperclassmen years. Try to live on campus for as long as possible, almost no university compares to our lake side housing at FGCU.
In three sentences Florida Gulf Coast University is a small school in Fort Myers, Florida that is rapidly growing. It is fairly new and has great on campus housing for students. This university is a great place to spend your four year education, especially for a student who loves the outdoors and water.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety on campus is great. There are emergency poles all around campus where you can just press a button and the campus police will come straight to your location if you need help or just feel unsafe and want a ride home. Also the campus police are constantly roaming the school to keep an eye out for suspicious activity or to help students.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs offered at school. There is literally a club for every interest a person may have. Most are displayed on colorful posters around campus and in the Cohen center.
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun on campus like sporting events, movie on the library lawn, and greek life events. Also the waterfront at North Lake is a popular place for students to hangout and have fun in the sun. At the waterfront you can go boating, paddle boarding, sailing or even fishing. Off campus you can go to Gulf Coast Town Center where you can go out to eat, shop, or go to the bars. There are also other pars and hookah lounges where students often hangout.
Food and Dining There are many delicious places to eat on campus like Chik-fil-a, Jamba Juice, and Blu Sushi where you can use your dining dollars or just pay with cash which is very convenient. Also there is Sovi dining for students is South Village so they don't have to travel all the way to campus to get a good meal. But other students not living in South Village can also eat there too with a meal plan or dining dollars.
Dorm Life The dorms are very fun and comfortable at the same time. There are many activities in the freshman dorms to help students get accumulated to college life. Also there are many people and resources in the freshman dorms to help them get the grades they need to be successful. In the Northlake dorms, everyone feels like a family and there are also many activities to participate in. Because of the apartment style dorms Northlake offers you get comfort and freedom along with the security of the school.
Academic Rigor As long as you go to class, take notes, and ask the professors questions you will have no problem getting good grades. As long as you put in some work at the right times you will have no problem getting good grades and also have fun at the same time.
Tips for prospective students Be open mined to trying new things and participating in school events and activities, it will make your time spent at this school ten times better. Also don't be intimidated to ask questions or to get involved because everyone is willing to help you and everyone is open to having new people in their group. Last thing i would suggest is to venture off from your normal group of friends and meet new people. You will be surprised how much meeting new people and making new friends can affect and change your life for the better.
In three sentences Very helpful and involved administrators and professors. It is a small but growing school so it feels like a family. Student life and academic life mesh together very well to provide a great experience for students and staff alike.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Environmentally friendly students love our campus, we always have activities that teach about sustainability and our campus has a nature trail on it as well. The scenery is perfect for people who like the outdoors.
Tips for prospective students I recommend using websites that rate your professors before choosing your classes, most of them are accurate and if it says a professor doesn't put up with texting in class and you don't know how to put down your cellphone, that class isn't right for you!
Bang for the buck I am not the best to decide this, I'm not really sure where other schools stand as far as tuition is concerned. I do however think that our classes are expensive if you do not have any scholarships. But that doesn't mean that you don't learn plenty from them.
Am enjoying being here I love my campus 100%, we are a green campus, and everything from our building design to our air conditioning is made to be more friendly to the environment. We have solar panels and motion censored lights to help reduce energy costs as well.
Am learning a lot Our professors on campus are very engaging and they usually teach you more than you need to know if you choose the right professors. Most of our students in our science and engineering studies were shocked at how much they learned.

Categories Comments What to do for fun 2 huge malls across the street, always something to do! Also, FGCU has a lake, so canoeing, going on the boat or even tanning is a big thing to do.
Food and Dining The food selection is alright, but the campus dining for the dorms is great and it always has different selections.
Dorm Life FGCU has hands down the best dorms!! You can live on the schools lake, what's better than that!
Academic Rigor FGCU isn't a huge school, so classes are difficult but the teachers are really helpful and class sizes are small so the teachers really care about you.
Tips for prospective students Just check the campus out, once you take a tour you will be in LOVE!!
In three sentences FGCU is great school, with a beautiful campus and teachers that really care. FGCU has small class sizes, with a big campus feel, so you get every aspect of what a college should be. At FGCU everybody is so friendly and nice, you really feel at home.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus police are there when you need them. Don't ever hesitate to go to them with a severe problem.
Greek Life Not very traditional, so I never was interested.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Miromar and Coconut point, and the shopping plaza where Target is was the most fun and that has to be what I miss most about Fort Myers.
Bang for the buck FGCU I feel compared to where I am now is ridiculously expensive. However some may feel that is it worth it. I did not.
What to do for fun Honestly not too much, The wildlife is amazing, so walking around when it's nice out was the most relaxing feeling. The clubs are overrated and expensive, and if you're not drinking you may be playing take care of the non sober person so generally I hung out with my roommate who ended up being one of my best friends who also left FGCU, a group of friends, and my RA.
Food and Dining SoVi is where it's at!
Dorm Life Dorm life was the most amazing part of FGCU. I lived in Biscayne and had an amazing RA who I still keep in touch with! He helped me with every little thing I can imagine because I moved to FGCU knowing no one.
Academic Rigor Classes seem easy at first but then your professors may spin a twist on you, and you end up with a bad grade. Gain a relationship with your professor to hopefully avoid that.
Tips for prospective students Focus on school, Don't get caught up in the wrong people. A lot of students at FGCU have careless attitudes and that can get the best of you, but be above that!
In three sentences Florida Gulf Coast was not the place for me, however it is a wonderful environment for some students. However after a year of being there more than half the people I met in classes, or in the dorms left. I just remember people either hate it or they love it.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The Florida Gulf Coast University Campus has a lake with a beach for swimming, sailing, paddle boarding and water skiing. The campus also has beach volleyball nets and a fitness center. The campus is always brining a comedian or an band on campus to help entertaine the students.
Food and Dining The Food is campus food not awful but not great. The dining plans are expensive so many of us do not buy them we go to the grocery store and use the microwave.
Dorm Life The dorms are great!! Ilive in the freshmen dorms, I share a bathroom with one other person and have my own room to keep my things and to sleep in. The Campus is new so the dorms are newer equipped with cable and internet.
Academic Rigor The classes are difficult and the professors expect a lot out of the students, but there are math and writing labs and tutors to help students get over the academic humps.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend that you stay on campus, I did not do that the first semester and ended up spending a lot of time on the road. I moved on campus 2nd semester and I am truly getting a great experience.
In three sentences The University is great!! It is big enough to offer the big University feel but small enough for professors to be able to provide individual attention.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck For the type of education you're receiving, it is pretty good as far as money is concerned. It's still college and still not cheap but for the locals it really isn't as bad compared to most other colleges. Nearly all on-campus sites are free for students including doctors visits (which saves a lot of money). Living off-campus may end up being cheaper in the long run however.
Am enjoying being here Even living off campus can mean that it is still an enjoyable place to be. There's always some kind of event going on if you're willing to look for it. Many clubs exist on campus as well as greek life, and ways to meet new people. The scenery is kind of repetitive but then again, I've lived here my whole life but I'm sure for those out-of-towners it is a great sight to see and a great environment to learn in!
Am learning a lot The curriculum is not only fun but interesting as well. The professors tend to focus more towards your own personal interest in the course rather than attendance. They are always readily available and try to be of help whenever they can. They try to make the courses fun and interesting even if they are boring subjects taken early in the morning. Also the work is full but consistent and intriguing. The professors aren't there to fail you, they're there to expand your knowledge of the outside world.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students High SAT, but low GPA that may prevent you from entering other schools.
Tips for prospective students In my opinion, I think SAT scores mean more than GPA to this school.
Bang for the buck Although it is still a growing university, the tuition is still a bit pricey compared to competing schools such as Florida Atlantic. The dorms are also very pricey, however, they are brand new and most offer private bedrooms. Also, while other larger schools may have your entire hallmay sharing a bathroom, at FGCU, there are no more than 2-3 people per bathroom (some rooms have private bathrooms)
Will enjoy being here If you want a stable, beach-oriented education, FGCU is definitely a top choice.
Will learn a lot The professors are all very competent.

Tips for prospective students Make you sure you meet with your advisor frequently and keep with with your class track. You don't want to take extra or unnecessary classes. Take advantage of all the academic opportunities that the school and campus offer to their students. Always try your best and get the best grades you can no matter what. Most of all just have a good time and enjoy yourself.
Bang for the buck FGCU is an extremely expensive school for out of state students. I'm paying nearly 4 times as much as in state students. Even with Scholarships and grants and tuition waivers it's still coming out to around 10,000 A semester so about 20,000 a year. It's going to be terrible when I gradate with 80,000 in student loans but I wouldn't be paying it if I didn't think the school was the best and worth it.
Am enjoying being here I'm so glad I moved to Florida. Not only is the weather beautiful but the surrounding community is a great place to be. The beach isn't far and there are plenty of stores and restaurants near by for enjoyment or employment opportunities.
Am learning a lot The classes I've taken I've learned a significant amount. There were a few classes where I feel like rather then the teacher actually teach us information they kind of just told us to read the book then take the midterm and final. On the other hand i've had some of the best teachers for my Science and Education classes.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Smart students who love small class sizes, people who don't want a party environment.
Tips for prospective students Don't come here expecting an atmosphere like UF. It is a smaller school but it is a good school. Stick it out and don't transfer after the first year, it is a good school and you will enjoy your years here. Get involved, Greek life is fun, Student Government is wonderful, and intramurals are a fun way to work out with friends.
Bang for the buck I am here on the Bright Future's Scholarship so I am paying relatively nothing. But the professors are good, plenty of clubs to get involved. Only problem is the sport teams aren't that good and people aren't too enthusiastic about the school. But it's time to increase our Eagle pride <3
Am enjoying being here I chose to come here because it is a smaller university and I would be able to thrive. Classes are small so it is easier to do well academically. The dorms in North Lake Village are wonderful, I'm a senior and I still live in them. It is not a college town, but I'm not the kind of person who goes out all the time. The key to staying busy and loving FGCU is getting involved. I do intramurals, am a part of Greek Life, I'm in the Honors Program, and I'm involved in Student Government.
Am learning a lot I'm a double major here so I can speak on two majors. Political Science classes can sometimes seem like a joke depending on who your teacher is. You will learn the philosophy if you want, and you will learn more about issues if you pay attention. Environmental Studies majors will have classes that seem extremely repetitive, but the science basic classes (Chem, Biology) are very challenging.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If you like smaller campuses this is the school for you. It's not too big, but not too small either. Also since there aren't as many students as the bigger universities if you want to feel like a part of a family this is the school for you.
Tips for prospective students If you're an incoming freshman I highly recommend living in the freshman dorms because it's more freshman oriented. Even though the dorm rooms are smaller I believe you get more out of your first year of college living there. There are more events put on for you to attend and you'll feel more part of the university as a whole.
Bang for the buck The school isn't that expensive and the dorms here are the nicest I've seen considering you get your own bedroom; for most universities you have to share a bedroom.
Am enjoying being here Even though things do usually close early around the school I still enjoy attending the school. It's nice to get away from a hectic city and be in a relaxing environment.
Am learning a lot Since our school is environmental friendly I am learning a lot about the environment and how to help that I probably would not have learned attending another school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety it gets dark and its a big campus and i don't always feel 100% safe mostly out of paranoia.. we could have a few more visible escorts or officers, but for the most part i feel safe.
Greek Life its really popular, i don't care for it but we have alot of it and it's growing!
Clubs and Activities frat/sorority are the most popular but we have a club for nearly anything.
Great for these types of students frat/sorority/bio majors
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus it's not unusal but we are very green, alot of nature trails and eco friendly locations.
Bang for the buck the classes are not too crowded and you have so many resources and opportunities to speak with your professor. it's a nice school for the price.
What to do for fun there are bars, clubs, nature trails, movie theaters, school clubs, fraternity, sororities, you name it!
Food and Dining we have so many options for eating on and off campus, there's something for everyone as long as you have the money,
Dorm Life i've never lived at the dorms due to financial reasons but i've heard they are nice.
Academic Rigor i graduated hs with a 4.85 and within a year my college gpa dropped below a 2.0. you have to apply yourself and not party away your scholarships and blow off classes. if you apply yourself, you will succeed, it's that simple.
Tips for prospective students if you live in the area, live at home and save your money. it will help your grades and keep you in line. if you absolutely won't stay home, get a job as a waiter, it is the highest earning job for our age group. if you're from out of town, live on campus, it will keep you in line rather than off campus housing, it gets very rowdy.
In three sentences fgcu is a great school because it is extremely eco-friendly, not too crowded, and has a multitude of resources for students. it is in a really great part of town and very face. college life there is very fun and grounded.

Categories Comments Campus Safety our campus is super safe with upd that with escort you if you don't feel safe walking by yourself, emergency alert poles every hundred yards, emergency pull cords in every dorm room, and well lit walk ways.
Greek Life we do have frats and sororities but they don't have their own housing yet.
Clubs and Activities there are way to many for me to list!
Great for these types of students fgcu is great for students that like small personal schools where they are people and not numbers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus you can usually find me in my dorm, at the gym in my martial arts club or working out, or getting free food at the activities on campus or in my housing complex.
Bang for the buck i truly love being an eagle at fgcu. i couldn't have picked a better school.
What to do for fun there are a ton of clubs to join like archery, martial arts, weight lifting, swimming, hockey, ect. our housing department always has fun activities to look forward to as well. these include bonfires, zombies vs human man hunt, stoplight parties, and more. there are also a lot of open mic nights, comedy shows, debates, ect on campus. you can also enjoy water sports on our lake or at our aquatic center. last but not least you can always take a shuttle to the gulf coast town center to shop, eat, or watch a movie.
Food and Dining i don't have a meal plan but i love cooking in my kitchen in my dorm. it also helps that there are grocery stores that are between five and fifteen minutes away. there are also a lot of restaurants that are perfect for any budget not even five minutes away for eating out.
Dorm Life the r.as here are super nice and extremely helpful. the dorms are also spacious and since this is a newer school the appliances and ac are up to date and the buildings are in no way run down.
Academic Rigor fgcu may be small but you still learn just as much as you would at any state university.
Tips for prospective students i would defiantly apply for housing early because i personally applied late and ended up in an over flow dorm with 5 other girls.
In three sentences i think that fgcu is an awesome school to attend. there are friendly people and lots of fun activities and clubs to enjoy. it's the perfect place for students that don't want to attend large universities but still want a great education.

Categories Comments Greek Life the only down side about greek life is that since our university is small and pretty new we don't have sorority and frat houses.
What to do for fun you can go to sporting events on campus, or you can go off campus, there is even a beach on campus that you can use. fgcu is close to just about everything, across the way is gulf coast town center, and just a few miles up the road is miromar outles.
Food and Dining there are a lot of food options on campus including subway and starbucks. the franchise places are always good. the dinning halws like sovi dinning you have to be careful because there food gets old very fast, you do not want to eat there every day.
Dorm Life if you live in the dorms, the ras are there for you. there is usually always some program that you can attend. you can always find something to do on campus.
In three sentences i love fgcu, the fact that it is close to everything but feels secluded at the same time. for the most part the professors that teach hear are pretty good, and teach well.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus police are always available and are very friendly. there are emergency blue posts everywhere on campus and the pd will arrive shortly after the button is pressed. there have been little to no emergencies at my stay here. it is a very safe and welcoming campus.
Greek Life there are many choices for greek life. i myself have not rushed, but know of many people who have. it is definitely a way to get to know a lot of people and be really involved in school and with organizations outside of school.
Clubs and Activities this school has over 100 registered student organizations. there are opportunities for everyone and it is fairly easy to create one of your own if you feel there isn't one that matches your need. rso's range from culture to dance to academic help. there truly is a place for everyone in the world of rsos.
Great for these types of students this school is definitely the best choice for students who enjoy outdoor activities and really care for the environment and other people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus i had never heard of a campus with it's own private beach until i got here. there are many activities to do at the beach, such as wake boarding, and even kayaking. this really is a great spot.
Bang for the buck this school is on the low end of tuition costs. yet there are so many things here on campus that really make up for the price. we have an entire arena, home of the fgcu eagles. an indoor and outdoor pool, and we even have our own private beach. there are so many places to be here on campus that you really have to be here to be able to enjoy them all.
Food and Dining at south village we have sovi, which is a buffet style cafeteria with many choices and is open all day for everyone. on campus we have subway, taco bell, starbucks, blu sushi, einstein bagels, chik-fil a, and jamba juice. lots of options and many places to eat.
Dorm Life there is special housing for freshman. south village is the perfect place to start your college life. rooms for 2 people with a lot of privacy, each person gets a separate room while sharing bathrooms and a foyer. at south village is sovi, our cafeteria full of delicious food and open all day. north lake is a step away from freshman and it has much more activities including the pool, an auxiliary gym and the beach. but if you prefer to be more independent, there is coastal and west lake, still considered student housing, but are more apartment like and less regulated by ra's.
Academic Rigor the classes are not easy, but it is possible to pass each class with an a. most professors are willing to give you the opportunity to pass, and are always there to help. there are also many many centers for help, such as tutoring or the writing center. we really are here to help.
Tips for prospective students plan on spending a lot of time on campus; not because there isn't things to do outside of campus, but because on campus there are so many things to do and to be involved in. you really won't have much time to be lazy and sit in your room all day.
In three sentences florida gulf coast is a wonderful school, with a beautiful campus and great opportunities to get involved. being a green school. we focus on making today better and planning an even better tomorrow. this school really cares about the environment and about the students and faculty that attend here.

Food and Dining fgcu has quite a few options for eating on campus. they even have a starbucks for all the coffee fans!
Academic Rigor the academics at fgcu are challenging enough that they keep you engaged, but easy enough that it's simple enough to pass as long as you pay attention and really apply yourself.
Tips for prospective students make sure that you take the eagle view orientation. i for one know that without it i would have been totally lost the first day of classes and be sure to be respectful of the professors, as long as you're respectful of them, they'll respect you back.

Greek Life greek life is popular.
Clubs and Activities lots of clubs and activities. too many to begin talking about.
Great for these types of students everybody
Bang for the buck its a relatively cheaper school and totally worth the money you pay. its really great overall. there is free gym, free personal trainer programs, and free use of boat and equipment for lakefront activities.
What to do for fun always activities going on around campus.
Food and Dining I prefer not to eat at the dining hall bc it gets to be redundant. but there are other places on campus so its nice.
Dorm Life I love the dorms. Its nice to have your own living room and kitchen and have 24 hour access to it. It feels like home.
Academic Rigor The classes are not impossible to handle. The Biology course is a little more rigorous but the school is possible to graduate from without killing yourself with school.
Tips for prospective students My tips are to be prepared to actually do your work. Keep focused and keep up with your classes. If you do that, your sure to enjoy the school. It's really great.

Bang for the buck Cheap for in-state, expensive and not very cooperative with out-of-state.
What to do for fun Go to Gulf Coast Town Center. This place is close and has everything you want.
Food and Dining Decent amount of food places on campus and a lot of good places within driving distance.
Dorm Life I never stayed in dorms, but I heard they aren't that fun but are a good size.
Academic Rigor Classes are easy, but degree is still valued.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for a true college experience I would suggest not attending this school. It is not really a college town. Academics-wise the courses are pretty easy, however the university is seen as just as credible as the bigger schools in Florida.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It's a great decision. My older sister went there and she said it It was a safe campus. And I mean VERY safe campus. She felt like she could approach anyone, talk to people, meet people after class, go on road trips, and just have a good time.
Greek Life Join a fraternity and sororoity if you want to have a social life.
Great for these types of students If you want to go out and have fun, talk to people that know the area more, and i guarantee you will have something to do.
What to do for fun Well for one, it's not a party school. so Clubs and other activities could help you get more involved in interacting with others, and getting to know more people, which will make it fun for you.
Food and Dining if you get the meal plan, the hours are not convienent and you cant always be available to eat between 5 and 8pm every night
Dorm Life If you plan on joining a sorority/fraternity, you will not have a social life.
Academic Rigor The work isn't tough, but it is informative. Your education will be what you make of it. Almost everything you learn should be knowledge you learned in high school or from news/the internet
Tips for prospective students Join alot of clubs and other activities. During the last 2 years of college, focus on internships and talking with others for networking with professionals.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I believe that FGCU is the only school in Florida that requires freshman students to have 80 hours of community service hours complete to graduate and 40 hours for transfer students. So find something you love and you end up doing way more than that!
Bang for the buck College is expensive no matter where you go...i believe that I am getting my fair share. More than any community college could do for me thats for sure
What to do for fun I havent even gotten into most of the activities within the school but I did just find out that they have a spa... and a gym complete with flat screen TV's attached to all the treadmills, elipticals, and stairmasters. They also have an olympic size pool for swimming and diving
Food and Dining Well...we have starbucks, taco bell, chick-fil-lay, subway, jamba juice, blu sushi, and a home cooking style resturante...purely awesome.
Dorm Life I dont live in a dorm but im sure it would be just like any other crazy building packed full of college students.
Academic Rigor See above containing tips
Tips for prospective students Study hard, if your going to college some people will find it easier than highschool. I know I do! But you have to think about the fact that you are going out into the real world and going to face issues pertaining to your degree that you have to solve by using skills you learned in college...dont just forget it all after the exam is over!
In three sentences A wonderful university with all the amenities that I could dream of that makes students (who live away from home) feel like they are apart of a family. I really do like the community service hours that they require you to do because it gives you a break from your routine to be able to do something better for someone else. Through this program I have been able to make ties with people that are able to get me started in the career that I have been working hard towards

Categories Comments Campus Safety Throughout FGCU, the University Police Department has blue emergency poles. The police are on the clock 24/7 on campus, which can be utilized if you find yourself at the library on campus really late. If you need to be driven to your car or dorms by one of the police because you're worried about how dark it is and you're alone, just press the blue emergency pole or call UPD on your cell. The parking garages also have cameras throughout them.
Greek Life There are many options for Greek Life! One thing different about FGCU is that there are not Greek Housing, so the price to be apart of Greek life is affordable.
Clubs and Activities FGCU offers multiple clubs on campus. From sexual orientation, religion, and just common interests. You can even become apart of the Programming Board, which is in charge of campus-wide activities and our concerts.
Great for these types of students Great for everyone unless you want to go to a really populated college, like the University of Central Florida.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A lot of students who are stuck on campus, because their classes are spread throughout the day, find themselves taking a power nap in one of the lounge chairs on the 3rd floor of the library by the huge windows in the back. You might feel weird doing it at first until you see how people actually will come and nap.
Bang for the buck Multiple scholarship options!
What to do for fun FGCU is surrounded by two outdoor malls, which are both within walking distance. Miller's Ale House in Gulf Coast Town Center is a favorite get-together food spot for FGCU students. FGCU is also close to Ale Mary's, Uptown Larry's, and RockHouse, which are local student aged bars and nightlife. If you're interested in hookah, there's a local hookah lounge right down the road called Layla Hookah Lounge (right by Uptown Larry's). On campus, students can enjoy the Waterfront which allows students to tan and relax on the lakes beach. They also have power boating and sailboats you can use on the lake. A lot of students stay busy with intramurals and Sorority/Fraternity events too!
Food and Dining FGCU offers a wide selection of dining options on campus. From Jamba Juice and Blu Sushi to Taco Bell and Subway, you'll have enough choices.
Dorm Life The dorms constantly have activities for the freshman. The Resident Assistants are usually very friendly.
Academic Rigor Some courses might come easy to some, while other courses may seem impossible.
Tips for prospective students Don't overload yourself with courses your first year unless you KNOW you can handle it. I chose to do 16 hours, Biology included, and it was an overload! Listen to advice given by your advisers. The best advising you will receive is when you're accepted into your intended majors' school advising.
In three sentences I am currently a sophomore at FGCU. As a student who was use to having a lifetime of private school education, attending FGCU felt right for me. The campus is big enough where you could just be a number or a someone who everyone knows.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus whats really sweet is there is a nature trail and many remote locations that are awesome for looking at the last bit of Florida's natural scenery and great for taking a special some one to possibly look at the moon and go in for that first kiss.
What to do for fun There is a lot to do for fun, there are always activities set up like ultimate Frisbee and once a month the school will host a movie night on the main campus lawn. there is also a beach with waterfront activities like wake boarding and kayaking.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They have their own campus security, and are constantly doing rounds around the campus and dorm areas. They have emergency stations with phones and lights if you ever feel unsafe or scared where university poilce will come and pick you up. The buildings are completely safe, and need a card to swipe into anywhere
Clubs and Activities So very many clubs and activities to be a part of. You can even create your own club. The people on campus always try to get the students involved in anything and everything.
Great for these types of students Great for all different types of people. Anyone and everyone can attend here and have an amazing time.
What to do for fun About five minutes from the campus, there is a town center that has a lot of different shops and stores, and lots of places to dine and eat at. Of course, there is a movie theatre as well. And for people 21 and over, there's a really hip bar to attend. For those who like dancing and the club scene, about 20 minutes away there are about two different night clubs. It's a fun place to live.
Food and Dining The freshman students have a close by buffet style dining. It's not the best food, but they always have a lot to choose from and different styles of cooking. On campus, though there's several different places to eat at like Subway, Taco Bell, Chik-fil-a, Blu Sushi, Jamba Juice, and Einsteins.
Dorm Life Dorm life is absolutely unforgettable. You meet so many new people, and so many different activities and events to always attend. It's so easy to get involved and never be bored.
Academic Rigor The school is a lot harder than high school, which is expected since it is college. Don't ever take a teacher for granted. Always do your work, and work hard. The grading is done a lot harder than you think.
Tips for prospective students Be sure to always study. Don't make the mistake to focus too much on your social life. Of course, still have a social life, hang out with friends, and so on, but always make sure to do all readings, studies, and homework. Also, be on top of deadlines, and other requirements for classes and for the school all together. For example, when to have paperwork turned in, or pay for all bills on time.
In three sentences Florida Gulf Coast University is an four-year university to attend. The professors for every class you take genuinely care about you, and how you do in his or her class. The campus is absolutely beautiful, and there are so many places to study. Categories Comments Campus Safety They have these really cool blue cement poles with a phone that at any time, for any reason you can call campus police and they are there or will advise you what to do in a second. I feel very safe. They're always riding around, protecting the students and staff here.
Greek Life GO GREEK!!!! I'll be in one in the fall. Not sure which one I will rush for yet. I can't wait. Maybe I'll try them all and see which ones I get selected for.
Clubs and Activities It's a bit overwhelming what I see for clubs and activities. Too many to choose from right now, but I have the whole summer to look into them. In the fall when all the students are back, I will pick one. They all look fun!
Great for these types of students Students who do not want a HUGE university. Students who want the college experience, without the PRIVATE college costs. Great for local and out of state students. Great for students who LOVE Florida weather who like to enjoy being outdoors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Because it's the summer and we have only been here for 2 weeks, I'm still trying to figure things out. I will know much more, when the fall kicks in and all the groups start. Go Eagles! Orientation was awesome for me and my parents.
Bang for the buck This is why I chose FGCU. It's not a huge University, but you feel like it's big enough! It is so pretty and new compared to some of the other older Universities. It's not so big that you get lost! It's close enough to home, but not too close. Everyone is so super friendly here. All the staff wants to make sure that each student has the same ability to do their best! I love it here. I picked the right college for me.
What to do for fun Bike, go to the recreation complex, hang out with friends, etc. In the fall I will join a sorority. Not sure which one yet. I'm able to go home and visit with friends and family too, because I live only 2 hours away by car. I miss my bedroom at home already..
Food and Dining The meal plan is unbelievable. My parents decided I will be on the partial plan because it's expensive and all you can eat buffets can put on weight. Yummy food!
Dorm Life Awesome! I love it! It's the first time being away, but I am in an apartment with 3 other girls and we have a full kitchen :-). My apartment overlooks a huge lake and the recreation complex. It's beautiful.
Academic Rigor I am in the summer term so there is a lot of work expected in such a short amount of time. I was aware of this when I enrolled in summer term. The professors make it interesting and fun to learn
Tips for prospective students Bring a beach cruiser bike or a long board. It's the thing to do on campus! Also, join clubs to get to meet new people. There is so much to do, you just have to get involved and keep up with your studies.
In three sentences I would rate FGCU an 8, out of 10. I am currently enrolled in the summer term so I can get a jump start on my classes. The campus is beautiful and the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly.

Categories Comments Food and Dining DON'T EAT AT SOVI DINING. other than that, the food is good, but you get a little tiered of eating at the same places every week. Good thing most dorms have their own kitchen.
Dorm Life Dorm life is very different at FGCU. Once you don't live in SOVI it's like living in an apartment complex with all your friends. North Lake and West Lake dorms have kitchens and everyone has their own room. Its the best situation for leaving to live with other people but not have to share your personal space all the way.
Academic Rigor Especially the first two years are made to weed people out, some of the classes are super hard and VERY boring, especially in the science area. Keep studying and you'll do fine
Tips for prospective students College isn't high school, you have to study, maybe not as much as suggested but you have to study! Study hard, then reward yourself by partying hard and everything will be perfect (:
In three sentences FGCU is a great school which is not only growing in size, but also growing in its ability to help students grow themselves. It has many different things to get involved in from clubs and organizations to Greek Life. FGCU is Florida's hidden gem when it comes to 4 year colleges.

What to do for fun FGCU offers outdoor recreation and sport and the man made beach on campus. There is a student body night life that happens right around the corner; bars, restaurants and food!
Food and Dining FGCU offers food and cuisine for all guests. A flavor for every culture!
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms but have seen them. Compared to Ohio State University and Kent State University they are much, much better!
Academic Rigor I am a doctorate student at FGCU and they are very serious about academics. In graduate school, you need to receive an 80% or higher to pass a class. The program I am in, Physical Therapy is largely research based. I love the way the program is set up but all programs vary. It is an accredited institution that offers a lot to the community and surrounding areas.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I feel very comfortable here on campus. Everyone seems to look out for each other. There is police on campus, as well as several security call boxes around all buildings.
Greek Life Being a fairly new college there are no houses established as of yet but there are several fraternities and sororities for anyone to pledge.
Clubs and Activities FGCU seems to have something for everyone and if you don't find something you are able to start your own club....
Great for these types of students I found FGCU's location to be just perfect. I always knew I wanted to go away to college but just not out of state. I am only 1 1/2 hrs away from home making so convenient for traveling. Being a fairly new university its size is not overwhelming, yet still growing.
Bang for the buck The campus location is well settled but also has several well-known retail stores that are well within driving distances. The campus also provides shuttle and public bus services for your use.
What to do for fun I find there are so many activities to choose from. Every dorm building has their own game rooms, meeting rooms to hang out, and conference rooms to study. We also have an aquatic center and lake area that is well put to use.
Food and Dining Several places to choose from which makes it convenient. The only problem for me was the meal plan prices,. I found them to be too high.
Dorm Life Wow, great dorms!! Rooms are not as small as I thought they would be. You have the best of two worlds, your private room as well as having a roommate. There is much to do on campus with so many activities. There is something for everyone to do.
Academic Rigor Classes will be tough, but while keeping your focus, you can achieve a good passing grade. There are several resources you are able to use at your request.
Tips for prospective students My advise for future students is to apply as early as possible, as FGCU has been making itself well known. If possible take several practice courses for your SAT and ACT tests. Take them as early as possible and several times as your scores will improve.
In three sentences I feel I am going to love living out here. LIving in the freshman dorms is making it so easy for me to adjust and make new friends. We are all starting a new chapter in our lives together.

Food and Dining There is an all you can eat place on campus near the freshman dorms which is a really nice place to eat and hang out with friends.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck Tuition costs go up almost every semester, so it is frustrating. My advice: get your degree as fast as possible!
What to do for fun There are several different sports teams at FGCU, and the arts at FGCU are also fun to participate in. The students get together all the time and study or blow off steam, so student life is a blast.
Food and Dining On-campus dining is really good, including sandwiches, pizza, bagels and sushi. There also are a lot of different events going on, offering all different kinds of foods.
Dorm Life I live off-campus, but I hear it can be great living on-campus or terrible, depending on your neighbors.
Academic Rigor The classes are tougher in some majors than in others. Choose wisely young jedi.
Tips for prospective students Come prepared for hot weather and a LOT of community service. This university is heavy on the volunteerism slant. There are always opportunities to fulfill your REQUIREMENT of doing community service hours before you can graduate from this university, inside and outside classes that you will also be required to take to graduate.
In three sentences This school is environmentally focused and has a lot of great professors. Like all universities, it has its good and bad points; however, every experience is what YOU make it. The majority of the professors and students are there to help each other get ahead.

Categories Comments Campus Safety FGCU's campus is kinda in the swamp/woods. The campus itself is much safer than Ft. Myers or Naples.
Clubs and Activities As a graduate student, I really wasn't involved in clubs and activities. I wish I could have been though (although the pickings are slim).
Great for these types of students If you care more about getting a decent, affordable education and not so much about sports (although FGCU's basketball teams are great), the party scene, or nationwide reputation.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There're alligators on campus (seriously)!
Bang for the buck I believe that tuition is standardized among all of the FL state schools, but when comparing FGCU to its counterparts, FGCU had the lowest fees of anyone.
What to do for fun Take a road trip! Sanibel Island is close by and is absolutely beautiful!
Food and Dining The food is good and nice amount of options available given the size.
Dorm Life Never lived in them; but they look amazing!
Academic Rigor I really wish I could put 3.5 stars here. Most classes are manageable when you study. I've had a few courses where I was lost, but the professors are always willing to help. I've been underwhelmed by the academic competitiveness on campus though; a good part of the student body just wants to get by.
Tips for prospective students Try to get away from Ft. Myers a bit. The area is heavily geared towards retirees. Also accept FGCU for what it is, and don't compare it to other schools that you wish you could have attended. It's a great university if you maintain a sense of pride in it!
In three sentences FGCU is an up and coming public university in Florida. It does lack in regards to resources, extracurricular activities and prestige. But the education is great and the university fills an important void in higher education in Southwest Florida.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are blue police poles on every corner of campus that are for safety. If you need assistance walking to your car, the campus PD are more than happy to do that for your. If it is late at night and you are just getting off work, the police will walk you from your car to your dorm. They are very friendly.
Greek Life I am not apart of greek life for personal reasons. My old roomate and some of my friends are apart of the greek life on campus and they love it. FGCU should add more sorrorities anf fraternities to campus since there arent many there now.
Clubs and Activities I feel that there should be more clubs on campus or at least more activities to do. There are already some great clubs and activities but some of the clubs are innactive or dont have anything going on. I want to start my own criminology club and have exciting field trips to learn from or have guest speakers.
Bang for the buck Since FGCU is still up and coming and is the newest university in Florida, the prices are somewhat cheap compared to other universities. I am not saying college is cheap by any means! But I would say this college is worth the money.
What to do for fun FGCU is a small campus in a small town. For fun, there are a few bars to go to, tons of shopping, and of course the beach is 30 minutes away! There is also tons of restaraunts, movie theaters, and parks to go to as well. Almost everything is a drive though. There are shuttles to the Gulf Coast Town Center which is nice.
Food and Dining I personally dont like too much of the food on campus. It gives you stomach aches and makes you go to the bathroom every five minutes. Literally. Some of the food is good though, like subay. Cant go wrong there!
Dorm Life I lived in the dorms my first year. I was actually the first class to be in the new dorms so it was brand new, fresh, and clean! They are kind of like prisons/hospitals though because you need a key card to get into every hallway or door. Every hallway has an RA who keeps watch over everything and makes sure things are safe. Most of the RA's battle against each other to see who can have the most fun and there are a lot of constests. It is fun and another great way to meet lots of new people.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes are hard and some of them are fun and easy. This goes for any college though. I think that the classes are what you make them. If you dont study and get bad grades, you will complain that the class is hard, If you put a little effort into your school work (your future!) it will pay off I promise.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, I would say to come to this college prepared for actual college. It is a great school that is advancing everyday and you need to be prepared to advance with it. You should also join as many clubs or organizations as you can. Campus life is fun and the more you are involved, the more you can put on your resume and you can meet tons of people.
In three sentences FGCU is very technologically advanced in the way it presents itself to students, faculty, and visitors. It is very clean and organized and I love going to school everyday. FGCU is up and coming and will be one of the top schools in the state of Florida.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have emergency cords in all of our dorm rooms and there are campus emergency poles everywhere.
Greek Life Sororities and Fraternities don't have houses on campus, but they are very actively seen everywhere and do a lot on and off campus.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for every kind of interest and cause.
Great for these types of students Students looking to be nurses/teachers, students interested in the environment, biology, and are eco friendly.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Everything is very natural. Lots of trees and animals including alligators to be found.
Bang for the buck It is the most inexpensive public university in Fl.
What to do for fun We have our own personal lake which can be used for free water recreation such as paddle boarding and kayaking.
Food and Dining Sometimes the dining hall serves good food, there's also a subway, taco bell, chickfila, and blu sushi.
Dorm Life There's almost always something to do on campus, the dorms are all very nice and everyone has their own bedroom regardless of how many roommates you have.
Academic Rigor Depends on the class you take and the professor you have.
Tips for prospective students Manage your time and classes very wisely.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The security on campus is awesome. There are emergency numbers, blue light emergency polls that connect you directly to an operator, and regular security that drives around all the time. You will never feel vulnerable.
What to do for fun The water front is my favorite place to go to have fun. Its like having the beach in your backyard. The offer things like wake boarding, banana boating, and kayaking. The campus gym is also great to keep in shape and keep of the freshman 15.
Food and Dining The food and dining selections on campus are great! We have everything from sushi to Mexican and good old homemade style food.
Dorm Life I do not live in a dorm but I have heard that for new incoming students it is a great way to build friendships. It also allows students the chance to be on there own.
Academic Rigor The undergraduate classes are challenging but you can succeed as long as you put forth hard work and attend class.
Tips for prospective students One thing I would recommend is to get involved and make friends that share your interests. Go to a few club meetings or join a frat or sorority.
In three sentences This is a clean and beautiful campus full of life and lots of activity. The staff is great and the amenities are even better. I have seen a lot of college campuses and would rate this one a A+.

Categories Comments Campus Safety As far as I know, campus safety is really great. I have not heard any complaints, nor have their been any serious issues.
Greek Life I'm unsure about Greek life. However, I know there are many students on campus that partake in it. They always wear their shirts around campus and have many events on the main lawn.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs on campus, however they do not advertise them well.
Great for these types of students FGCU is great for athletic students. Being in Florida, we can play sports all year long. FGCU takes pride in their athletes and promotes them well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus An unusual location on campus is our own personal beach. There is a man made beach on campus near some of the dorms.
Bang for the buck I'm a Florida resident, so FGCU was a great choice for me as far as tuition is concerned. It is an awesome way to save money, and get the same education you would at any other university.
What to do for fun FGCU is really big on sports. So for fun, there is almost always a sporting event going on everyday of the week. There are also many local malls, as well as the beach to entertain you.
Food and Dining There are multiple fast restaraunts for students to eat at. These include Einstein Bagels, Subway, and Chik fil A.
Dorm Life I can't rate this because I did not live in the dorms. However, I lived in the dorms at my previous university, and I fell dorm life is essential to obtaining the full college experience.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor at FGCU is very low. A high GPA was easy to obtain, and large amounts of studying were not necessary for me to get straight A's.
Tips for prospective students I would advise future students to live on campus. Living on campus is a sure way to meet people and make connections. It also makes the college transition much easier.
In three sentences I would rate FGCU a 7 out of 10. While it is a great university for academics, I was a commuter student and didn't really feel like I was a part of the community there. I feel like they need to do more for studemt involvement.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are plenty of clubs to join as well as Greek life (even though we don't have housing). There are also a lot of beaches nearby and downtown Fort Myers.
Food and Dining SoVi Dining is terrible but there are plenty of other good options.
Dorm Life It's nice as a freshman if you live in South Village, or as an upperclassman if you're lucky enough to get into West Lake, but North Lake - where most students that live on campus end up - isn't super nice, although its nicer than other schools' dorms.
Academic Rigor I find some of my classes are easier than others but I still have to try. My professors all really care about the students and are always there to help.
Tips for prospective students Get involved right away. People say there isn't much to do, but there is if you make the best of everything.
In three sentences FGCU is the perfect size. It's still growing, so it has a big school feel but with small school class sizes. This way, there's plenty do to on campus yet your professors know you.

Great for these types of students Florida residents can get a quality education, enjoy watching sports, and participate in clubs too.
Bang for the buck FGCU is a good value for Florida residents.
What to do for fun Riding bikes, going to the beach, and participating in club activites are just a few of the options.
Food and Dining The dining hall is alright, but I prefer the restaurants like Subway and Chick-fil-a.
Dorm Life The freshman year residential experience (FYRE) is a great way to get you familiar with the campus and meet new people.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Never have I felt as if I were in danger. Campus police always monitoring, and there's always somebody nearby. Things happen once in a blue moon but it can happen anywhere you go.
Greek Life The only thing that this university does not have when it comes to Greek life is the sorority and fraternity housing. Supposedly it keeps students safer, but I feel like it'd be good if we had it.
Great for these types of students This university is more for students that like to have fun, but also like a calm enviroment. Calm, friendly, and small are probably the best ways to describe it.
What to do for fun Mall and outlets not even five minutes away, gym, basketball courts, beach, school-affiliated activities, and many more other things!
Food and Dining There is not too much of a variety. After a while you get used to having the same thing around but there are shopping centers near the university that also has restraurants and other dining places near by.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms but from what I hear, there is always something to do, and you're always meeting new people.
Academic Rigor Depending on the courses you take, some are more challenging than others. So far my teachers are very helpful and caring, and if you do not get the assistance you need in the classroom, there are many other ways to get it , either in the center of academic acheivement or in your professors office hours.
Tips for prospective students Acceptance wise-try your very best to get the highest score possible on your SAT/ACT because it is becoming a challenging University to get accepted to. If your GPA is not the highest but your scores are good, don't shy away from writting an admission essay (which is not required). Once you do get accepted, join many clubs and be yourself! You'll fit in just fine.
In three sentences It is a small, friendly school. There are many tutoring sessions for a variety of classes and workshops available to ensure success at the University. Not much of a party school, which is good to keep focus!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I would walk around campus at night, the only thing you have to worry about is getting eaten alive by mosquitoes!
Greek Life We have a variety of greek organizations but no greek housing....yet!
Clubs and Activities There is a club for EVERYONE at FGCU, if you don't want to get involved, that is on you! They even let you start your own club if you and fellow students can't find anything to join!
Bang for the buck FGCU is a great school for a great price. For in state living on campus, I am spending around 12,000 a semester. Which is 24,000 a year. Not a bad price considering all my fees, and utilities are paid for as well as my tuition. My last school I was paying 18,000 and I still had to purchase books!
What to do for fun There is so much to do for fun! We are right across the road from GCTC, so there are movies and shopping. We have movies on the lawn about once a month, our own private beach, where you can play volley ball, or go paddle boarding. Down the road there is Naples beach, and Fort Myers beach, and don't forget Basketball games! Many things to do at FGCU!
Food and Dining Food and dining are okay at FGCU. We have what you call Eagle dollars and they are basically meal plan extra money that you can spend at any restaurant on campus. In Sovi or South lake for freshmen, there is a dining hall, I heard that it has it's days to where it is good and bad, but I haven't tried it for myself. I love having my own kitchen and with Target being right across the road, it is super easy to cook good meals :)
Dorm Life Dorm life rocks at FGCU. I live in North Lake Village and I LOVE IT! I am close to campus but, still have my own kitchen and private room. We are close to the gym and not to far away from the laundry facilities, and our RA's are so much fun! GO NLV!
Academic Rigor Some professors, (just like every where else) are good and some are bad. I am a first year, first semester student at FGCU and I have not had any problems with my professors, and I have used our tutoring center to help me in struggling courses.
Tips for prospective students Apply early. Arrive about an hour before class because parking is horrible, and make sure to register for the earliest possible registration.
In three sentences I love FGCU, GO EAGLES! It is a great green small campus, focused on education and student involvement. Can't wait for the next 4 years!

What to do for fun Fort Myers is a small town. there is a mall right next to the school where there's many stores and restaurants. There is also a movie theater.
Dorm Life Fun, always something to do
Academic Rigor It is a 4 year college not a community college, very rigorous
Tips for prospective students Go to your professors office hours and go to tutoring every time you get the chance. Get involve in clubs and organizations that interest you. This will help you know more about the school and you get to meet new people.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are a lot of fun things to do in and around FGCU campus. You will find tons of different posters hung up on the announcement walls and will see gathering and or hear of projects throughout the days.
Food and Dining I haven't ate too much at FGCU, but they have a good amount diversity. They have a Starbucks and a pizza place, along with a few other specialties. They have a meal plan you can buy if you are interested.
Dorm Life I don't live in a dorm and don't know anyone they has really talked about it. You don't have to get a dorm on campus, but it is literally on campus in the same area you enter.
Academic Rigor Even though I don't have much experience in FGCU only being a dual-enrollment student, I can say the teachers are dedicated to teaching and they are friendly and helpful. The school tries really hard to help everyone. Though some of the students act lazy and don't seem to be crazy into each course, you can tell everyone is there to learn.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students, try to figure out if you know what major you really want. If not, look to get a basic AA degree and just feel around. Your first year counselor can be very helpful, so take advantage. They know the school, they receive feedback from all the students, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The UPD is always roaming around, keeping us safe. There are very few incidents that ever require their attention, outside of speeding.
Greek Life Greek life is a little limited, at the moment. There are plenty of the usual fraternities and sororities to join, however there is no Greek row and no plans for one anytime soon.
Clubs and Activities The number of Registered Student Organizations is approaching the 100 mark. There is something for everyone!
Great for these types of students Goal-oriented, career-minded students will have no problem succeeding at FGCU. Undecideds have a lot of choice, as well, including the new Music Therapy program, very soon.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a new pavilion going up where the FGCU Jazz Ensemble will likely be performing several concerts each year.
Bang for the buck The universities in Florida always want to raise tuition. Between scholarships, financial aid and loans, it's pretty easy to cover each semesters tuition and books. It is more expensive to live on campus than it is off. If you have a vehicle, consider the surround neighborhoods for house or apartment rentals.
What to do for fun Gulf Coast Town Center is only a five minute drive, as are the Miromar Outlets. Both have lots of shopping, food choices, movie theaters and other activities on a weekly basis. The beaches are about 45 minutes away and usually worth the drive when it's hot.
Food and Dining The food selection on campus is usually quite limiting. The area surrounding FGCU is packed full of other restaurants and cafes and anytime we get the chance, we eat off campus.
Dorm Life Many of my friends who live on campus usually spend very little time in the dorms. They are always looking for something else to do. There are not a lot of things to do on campus, so staying put can often lead to boredom. Of course, any fun is dependent on the company you keep, so make great friends!
Academic Rigor As a Music Education major, my schedule is considerably more demanding than many other degree programs, but the core academics are challenging and, with the right instructor, usually lots of fun.
Tips for prospective students Ask questions and always demand answers. Someone, somewhere can always get you answers. Be active in student organizations. FGCU is still small enough that individuals can make a big difference.
In three sentences FGCU is a very welcoming school. It is relatively small and therefore more community-like than the larger state universities. The culture is geared toward inclusion for all students and an understanding of how we impact our environment.

Great for these types of students Hard-workers or students who are going in a general area. FGCU isn't necessarily known for any specific major.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Starbucks on campus, what a great thing.
Bang for the buck It's expensive, but all colleges are.
What to do for fun There's always something going on on campus, and joining clubs provide great opportunities to meet new people and try new things.
Food and Dining I have cilliac disease, which means I can't consume gluten, and they try to provide something gluten-free, but there's no variety.
Dorm Life These are the nicest dorms I've ever seen! My RA was perfect. She knew what she was doing, enforced rules, but was leanant at the same time.
Academic Rigor They challenge you, and force you to learn, definitely. Communication with the teachers is key.
Tips for prospective students Don't let your first year bring you down. It's a big change from high school, but once you learn to adapt it's a smooth ride.
In three sentences Florida Gulf Coast University is a great school with a lot of opportunities to get involved and be all that you can be. If FGCU had my intended major, aerospace engineering, I would definitely complete my 4 year plan here. The teachers are willing to help and the classes are the perfect size.

Dorm Life Awesome. There are always activities to do with your dorm mates.
Academic Rigor Relatively easy if you focus and study.
Tips for prospective students It's somewhat surrounded my forests so if you don't like little animals stay away from those woods or just on the nature trails. DORMS ARE GREAT! You have your own room with a door so you only share a bathroom and common area with your roommate/mates.
