Living expenses are the downside to attending a university in a city with a high cost of living, but tuition is relatively cheap compared to private institutions. FIU is the fastest growing university in the state with over 50,000 students and ever-growing expansion and improving campus projects.

It's an expensive school so the bang for your buck will be seen within the two or four years you're in attendance. At least four new buildings will be in construction or finished before you leave.

Tuition wise the price isnt too bad, but housing costs can get crazy expensive. In my freshman year, I spent $10,000 in housing alone.

It is slightly expensive and every semester we are hit with all of these extra fees. Even for the summer term, I have to pay athletic, health fees, parking fees, etc. even though the parking fee that I paid for the spring term is still valid during the summer because we have to use the same parking sticker. One class in the summer is close to $800. For just one class! It is even worse if you take online classes (which I tend to do since I work full time). You have to pay $160 more per class. I have found the financial aid they give me is not enough and I have to take out student loans. Plus, they customize a lot of the textbooks to make it an FIU edition so you pretty much have no other choice than to buy it from their bookstore versus being able to rent it online through a cheap site like chegg.com.
